Thanks DJJazzyJeff,
They can be opened and closed as desired, in the photo they are mostly cracked open. Inside they are just pitch black.
Next piece is another possible gang hideout with a ruined Administration building, or a ruined building for 40K. I did lest rust and weathering than the previous large building.

Great looking scatter terrain that you've been cooking!
The opening tunnel access points and their numbering is a really cool idea! Will surely open up some great opportunities on the tabletop.
The last building is a prime example of how a good looking base can make those maybe a little bit boring GW buildings look really good

Thanks gobert. I cheated and used a printer to print out the hazard stripes, then cut them to fit, and then weathered them to match the floors.

Thank you Theophony. I am going to keep the smaller supports made from extra plastic card. As the base is smaller so that it can be close to other towers (whereas the original carboard towers had no base and could be placed to fit easily close together). Now this might make the upper floors more susceptible to incoming fire. If that is the case I could always add some higher supports later.

Looking good Captain, I agree, a bit of gravel/debris around the foot of the structure would tie it in to the base nicely. At the minute the platform looks nice and decaying, but with a pristine floor. Even a bit of your rust colour around the base of each levels bulkheads might help with that? I guess the bridges will be your next Necromunda project?

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors, the fellow that gave the parts to me picked them up at Toy traders for about 60% of what they are currently retailing at, as it was a bag of previously owned and opened items. Since there were no instructions of box packaging he just made a ruined factor and handed me the leftovers.

So, one challenge was that I could not add details to the base tower because you have to slide the first floor over it. So a basecoat was applied to the various parts before gluing the platforms to the tower.

Thanks gobert, actually these valve controls were far easier than the one I scratch built for CHILLIWACK, these are snap buttons...just need a little sanding and they are great (and simpler) alternatives.

Thanks Maharg,
Yes, I have loads of the old cardboard walkways, but they are what I am trying to replace with some more 3D versions. The theme for those was pretty complicated and I am concerned that adding too much detail might make them unstable for painted metal models (the scrap bridge notwithstanding which will likely have a warning to players noted on it's stability...it might need some railings).

I have glued the connector pegs into the Mantic bridges for strength to support the above mentioned metal gangers.

First longer bridge will be the "Dreaded L Bridge" from the original box...so called because of it's shape and length and exposure to incoming fire to any figures who had to use it.
Using some aquarium gravel supports (three) and some sprinkler extenders for the support coloums.
First mockup.
The ends fit perfectly under the floors of the Necromunda towers, a little lower for the 40K ruins.
The plastic on the aquarium pieces is quite soft and it did not seem to melt a bond with the sprinkler plastic...so I think it will have to be epoxy as only that will handle the flex of the piece.

To motivate me to actually paint them, I am using the Unofficial Monthly Painting Challenge - submitting five of them for the competition. Thank you youwashock, I do not have a photo of all the Necromunda gangers I have collected and painted (I think it is an even 50 now, excluding the two non-gang folks). However I do have these:
Continuing to remove 40K ruins and replace with Necromunda ruins. But there is enough here to build two Necromunda gaming tables if I add back the 40K ruins.
While I was adding the gangways I suddenly realized that I should add a lip to prevent nicely painted metal models from toppling off to land among the ruined streets below. I know that a number of posters have pointed out that there are no safety regulations in Necromunda...but I do fear for the paint work of metal models.
I need to make some more raised platforms (likely tacked onto some of the small Manufactoriums I plan on building) for the larger gantries.

Maybe add something to the can - even posters maybe - to break up its origins further? Heck, you could probably run a platform around it - which would also cover the top of the pipe. (I think it would work with or without, but I'm leaning towards with the pipe.)

Thanks gobert. Yes they are some old lego.
Thank you Stevefamine, Arakasi, and Viterbi.
Seems like the pipe is popular...still dabbling with them...if I cap them I think they should allow a model to step on them and gain a fire arc around most of the short tower.
In the meantime, these two are finished.

Those goliaths are coming along nicely. I have some somewhere in the mountain range of grey and silver . The terrain piece looks stunning. The only two parts of it I don’t like are the two pieces of the old imperial guard missile launcher used , but that’s because I hunted for those years ago and couldn’t get enough for my project at the time.

We have not played since the 90's and the plan to return has been delayed since COVID 19. But other members of my gaming group have started to pull out their old gangs for a refresh and they have all downloaded the living rules.

Here are some of the gantry ways/bridges I have added some sort of railing to (for the prevention of metal figures from falling to the table and sustaining paint and figure damage).
I am certain my group will agree to still allow gangers to be tossed off of the bridges even with the railings...as they were only added for model protection.

I love how the cassette parts translate into reinforced steel structure and their former identity just disappears, but it'll b trickier with the Gillette razors. I'm keen to see how they look when it's all painted up. It's one thing that bothers me when I can identify a bottle top or a coke can too easily in a terrain piece so I'm hoping they'll just vanish like the cassette.
But judging by your top notch work I have every confidence in your magical terrain skills.

So the next project started as one to use a couple of great 3D platforms given to me by one of my gaming buddies, and some Mantic extra bits given to me by another buddy, and some old metal Necromunda Scum from a third, two empty dices tomato cans, and finally an idea to use for this month's Unofficial Painting Challenge.
So let's begin with the platform towers. Pieces required of one of them.

Post by: Captain Brown
Thanks guys.
So first I soaked the tin in soapy water to get as much of the glue off from the label as possible. While that was soaking I cut out a strip of the chicken wire that will serve as the two ladders.
Cut of the end parts of the Mantic snap together pieces on the three support brackets.
Trimmed the round pivot point ends of the parts from a VHS tape to make the two small L brackets and sanded a curve unto the ends that will be glued to the can.
Sanded/filed a curve is some of the other Mantic pieces so they would fit the curve of the can.
Now I drilled a small hole and used some brass rod to hold the platform in place as I let the 5 minute epoxy set, added the first large L bracket in the middle for support. Then added the control panel. All secured with epoxy for strength and left to set with gravity doing the work to keep them in place. Make certain your platform is level.
While that was drying, I cut the ladder wire in half so I would have two and sanded down all those sharp edges (I ended up doing a little dab of epoxy on each of them as well with excess glue to prevent any sharp bits on the terrain). You do not want you terrain to acquire a reputation for drawing blood from your fellow gamers.
Began gluing the piping together, one at a time to make certain it dried at right angles.
More to come...

I thought I'd dropped a comment here but upon rechecking, I haven't recently, so just wanted to say that plasma generator is top notch, the candle works really well and the whole thing feels aged. I really like the gantries you did as well.
Good info in your latest update too, I better not start digging into the cans I have at home haha!

Post by: Captain Brown
Thank you Tyranid Horde.
Next step was adding the next two support brackets with 5 minute epoxy, again I let gravity hold them in place as I turned the can upside down. Used the extra epoxy to add little dabs to the chicken wire ladders (again to make a smooth end to all that cut wire).
Then I glued on the two small L brackets under the platform and a plastic sprinkler riser to the back of the tin. This was done on top of a piece of cellophane so that any excess epoxy that slid down before it fully cured would not stick to anything by the terrain. Now this step was necessary because the platform is a little heavy and I did not want there to be a chance of tipping when figures and bridges were placed on it.
While that epoxy dried I glued together the next stages in the piping made from Mantic extras. Then I glued on my two chicken wire ladders on each side of the platform (because you always need two access points for good Necromunda terrain). Then added the cage to the tops, made from pieces of plastic hair curlers. On to of those were the two burnt out Christmas lights to make lamps. Half of another Mantic extra piece and some plastic card were glued to the top of the tin to make a vent (and some cover). My Mantic piping was glued to one of the relatively bare sides between the sprinkler riser and the ladder to the platform. As well as some Mantic conduit for wiring on the side opposite the piping. An old outdoor sprinkler head was glued to the top of the sprinkler riser to make it look like some sort of viltration vent. All these were secured using 5 minute epoxy as we have dissimilar plastics and metals being joined and I wanted a strong durable join.
Made a basically identical piece in half as much time as I learned from the first one.
Next up is the painting.

Please, use any idea you see. Most of mine were inspired by others and I have several links scattered throughout with links to site or logs that inspired me.
Now before I show the painted tomato cans, which I built to add more open platforms for bridges and gantries. I wanted some longer narrow spans, so I took a pair of wooden rulers and added some sculptors mesh to the flat side.
I used epoxy to secure it and then wrapped it in some old elastic bands to keep the metal against the wood for the 5 minutes required for the epoxy to set.
Then I used chip board strips to each side to keep models from falling off and to make the ruler level (these had a bulge down the middle between the metric and imperial measurements and I did not want my bridges to be tipsy).
The bridges ended up being a little too long for the Unofficial Painting Competition (30 cm/12 inches) where I was planning on using one of them, so I made one half as long with chip board as the shorter length did not require the strength of the wood.
However, in the end I found even the short bridge was too long for a good gun fight, so I dropped the idea, but did finish three new bridges for my Necromunda table.

I do love the old Orlocks. Been stripping my own orlocks and seeing these is giving me motivation to get them off the back burner and into the hotseat. You're going for the classic look with the colours here. Did you consider anything different?
I always thought they were very Bruce Springsteen. If The Boss took the blue collar working man vibe to the level of gang violence.

theCrowe,
I did make a little deviation from the classic scheme...I dropped the red shirts due to the Star Trek connitations...no need to give your opponents certainty that gangers with red shirts will perish.

Yes, three more Ripper Jacks and five Giant Rats so I have almost enough for each Beastmaster to have all the options. Because before each game you select one of the three types of beasts and roll a d3 to see how many your hired Beastmaster brings to the fight. Once I am finished these eight I will have six of each option and four for the Milliasaurs.

I’m impressed with the scatter terrain. I usually can’t bring myself to do much more than basecost, wash, drybrush and weathering on terrain like these. Your extra love and attention to detail will really bring these to life on the battlefield. I agree with IGtR that the red is nice.

Painting process:
Primed black.
Given a spray from above of Regal Red Tremclad.
Dry brush of red.
Painted the cables with various colors.
Chipping effect with silver.
Rust spotting with orange.
Wash with brown ink.
Light dry brush with a mix of red and yellow.
Washed metallic areas with black ink.
Added a layer of Mig Pigment Dessert Sand with contrast medium everywhere that sand and dust would accumulate.
Sealed to make certain the sand does not lift.
Hope that explains the coloring. The Tremclad was a little glossy, but it did make for a good red base over the black primer.

Finished the Arbites squad, to bring some Imperial law enforcement to the Underhive. Entered them in the "Boots on the Ground" themed Monthly Painting Challenge.
Most challenging part was doing the bases, as these were slotta base models with the tab between the feet to hold them in place. I did not want to cut those off and then pin the feet to the plastic base as these are fairly heavy models. So I built the plastic card around the slotta tabs.
