Hi guys Ive decided im gonna try get tickets for the second heat of this years throne of skulls as I was to late for the first. This will give me more time to get my guard ready.
Ive gone for a mechanised heavy armoured veteran army Ill post the list in a bit but I thought I would post some images of some wips and finished units so far. Some of these are in my old marine and guard blog but most will be new.
PS these pics are ok but not great I need to find somehwere I can take good pics will probably be in the next couple of days at the local computer cafe.
Thats the fist demolisher from a squad of 2 I am going to use.
Thats the second one. Note the search lights only got put on yesterday and need painting.
Thats the command squad of the army not a great picture but you get the idea. Ive gone for plasma guns where ever I can have them in the army.
I got one of the new sentinel models today and used the spare parts to give this old one some love it used to have a heavy flamer and all sorts of crap I have also replaced its thin old base with a nice new resin one.
This is the new sentinel. I like the new kit even though its a bitch to get the legs how you want them. The only thing I dont like is that the weapons are a really lose fit the multi laser doesnt even have a bit to fit into the hull. What I did was cut the multi laser and lascannon and put the multi laser barrel on the lascannon body and use a magnet to attach to the hull. This made it look a bit beefyer and also gave me a multi laser cable to cut off and use to repair the old sentinels multi laser which had no power cable.
I have stripped and done repair work to a pair of leman russ battle tanks they are nearly ready to paint heres a few pics.
I love removeall 220 thats all I can say.
I have also started doin repair work to an old converted chimera that will be used for the command squad it has not been stripped yet but a lot of crap has been taken off and repairs started I managed to get a chimera on ebay that was not boxed with a few bits missing cheap I will use the turret from that on this one as it used to have a heavy flamer and I want multi lasers.
And lastly I have built one of the new chimeras and primed it I have to say the new kit is a lot nicer to build but I also noticed its a couple of inches shorter than the old one.
Thats all for now I will get the list and hopefully better pics up tomorrow hope you have plenty to say one the list when I do it and on the models as I put them up.

Thanks silver you alwasy seem to have somethin nice to say in my threads.
To the back pack question no they are from the cadian and catachan havy weapons teams
Ok Dint post again last night because I was quite unwell however befor I got ill and during today I have made good progress.
Firstly all three of the banged up chimeras have now been stripped and refurbished apart from I need to put a hatch on top of one of the turrets. Here are pics of them as they stand now.
The white and green one (was grey last time you saw it) took a lot to strip even with the stuff I use but they came out nice and are now ready to spray apart from doing the hatch on the green on.
I have also started painting my new chimera it has had the grey and white base colours drybrushed onto it.
Quite happy with how that is comming along so far.
The sentinels have had some love today to I sprayed them both and painted on of them here are the pics.
I thinkt the colours really suit the sentinel model Im happy anyway.
I also primed the 2 leman russ tanks.
Can get painting them at some point now.
Tomorrow I hope to strip convert and build the remain veteran units and sentinel befor club time in the evening. We will see.
Anyway thats the pic update for the day hope you like them.
Now Ive finally made a rough list for what I will be taking. Here goes hope it make sense.

I'm pretty sure the shotgun is from the Necromunda line of weapons.
Great stuff Truffle! keep up the great work!

You could add a Medic to the command squad, or a Master of Ordnance? Pretty straight-forward and close to a no-brainer, but they're efficient anyway...
Also love your Infantrymen!

Post by: Truffle
Master of the ordanance. Interesting. Dont think I would bother with a medic though if you want to kill 5 guard then a medic wont stop you.
The shotgun is indeed from the necromunda sprue.
Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Truffle wrote:Thanks silver you alwasy seem to have somethin nice to say in my threads. Because you always have something nice in your threads Have to say I actually quite like the effects left by stripping some of those tanks and transports. Will you be adding any more colours to your IG/tanks? They just seem a bit too uniform at the moment. Even just re-washing the armour on the guys (either the same colour or a different one - perhaps red or blue?) would break it up a little and give some more visual interest. Unit and tank markings also add something as well.
26179
Post by: Truffle
What Im going to do is paint the entire army to this standard and then I will probably add squad markings heavy support icons ect to the tanks and men.
Ok I have taken a couple of pictures of the chimera and leman russ that I have finished so here we go.
Thats the finished chimera.
And there be the leman russ. I think the pictures are a bit to light its making them look greyer than they are but Im happy with them apart from that. Dunno what to paint next probably another sentinel.
Hope you guys like them leave cc as always.

great thread sir! I love the simplistic painting, but it actually looks great! I wish I could follow your painting procedure.
The only thing that is throwing me off is the awkward placed smoke launchers on the one Chimera.
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
I really like it and it looks great - I would do the same if I still played. But I'm just in it for the painting these days so I'm always trying to experiment with odd colour schemes - sometimes to my detriment
26179
Post by: Truffle
I did try every place on the chimera for the smoke launchers I liked them there the best it would work and it does not get in the way of the turret and I think it looks cool but I figured not everyone would think the same.
Just quick update I have finished another sentinel but I have not got any pictures yet I will sort some out soon.

Post by: MadMaverick76
How do you do your paint scheme?
26179
Post by: Truffle
Its real simple spray and paint black.
Dry brush codex grey takes a while to get the right effect of the dusty grey kinda tone
Then same with skull white.
Bring out metal with boltgun metal
Wash the metal bedab black.
Give the tracks a second wash with devlan mud.
Do lights leach purple then add a bit of tentical pink.
The storwage is done fortress grey then washed badab black.
Hope it helps.

Righty ho Ive got an update for the army. I hant done much to the thread this week as Ive had a very bad week so I needed to do other things.
I have painted pics of another chimera leman russ and sentinel so here we go.
Leman russ first
Now the chimera
And the second sentinel
So the army is comming along nicely. I need to sort out an old sentinel to repaint do a couple of chimeras then I will sort the men out. Still dont know what to do with the spare points I have might have a forth sentinel? I thought about master of the fleet and ordanace to would probably take the fleet master as that could screw my enemies reserves up nicely.
Anyhow what do you guys think?

Post by: Some_Call_Me_Tim?
I love your extensive use of brybrushing, it adds a very neat "grungy" flavor to the army, and makes the purple really "Pop"! Only minor quibble is that you really should remove some of those mold lines.
_Tim?
26179
Post by: Truffle
Whats with the TIM?
Yeah there is still some crap on the models what people have to realise is that these models mainly the tanks are up to 12 years old and have been in up to 4 different armies that were not all mine. Compared to how they were they are very clean but as you can see on most the units there are marks a dents where things were glue was spilt ect. What I intend to do when the whole army is painted to this level is makes most of the these areas look scratched or rusted which should add a nice effect to the models. I wont put mud on as its a urban army and it wouldnt fit right I did want them to be dusty I think this kind of look was pulled off ok by doing a slightly heavyer drybrush than I strated with.
Any pure lines that are left after the rust is added will stay I am not cutting up a painted model when most of the lines are gone anyway. But you are right.

Post by: MadMaverick76
Did you make the tank track covers or are they FW?
26179
Post by: Truffle
They are plastic you used to get them with the last generation of imperial tanks you dont any more now you have to buy the sprue for 7 pound its a fething ripoff. You can get forge world ones though for the sake of arguement.

Ok little update. Ive started sorting out the veterans. I have paint stripped the models and removed their heads ready for pig iron ones to go on. Since this picture was taken I have also rebased the models. Still a lot of work to do here befor they are ready to paint.
When they have dried on their new bases I will get about removing flash putting new heads on and rebuilding the necks where they need doing.

Hi chaps and gals. Have not updated in a while I have not really been in the mood for painting and when I did do a little bit it was on one of my necron pylons. Anyway hoping to get going with the guard again soon I have been playtesting them and have made a couple of big changes to the list.
So here is the new list.

Set of heavy bolter sponsons 10pts
140pts
Elites
Guardsman Marbo 65pts
65pts Army total 1497
What do you all think. I have noticed that in the games I had with the older list the outflanking sentinels constantly performed shoting tanks in the rare and tangling heavy weapons teams up in combat. In the last game a pair of them even kicked a fire prism out of the sky then kicked its main gun off. So I have added a 4th sentinel put them in 2 squads of 2 and added a vendetta that can also outflank. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ive just finished building the model that I will use as marbo.
Here are a few quick pics.
Hope you like
26179
Post by: Truffle
Right a proper update. Sorry for the wait been having a few issues lately.
Right few bits have changed. The marbo counts as that I posted I probably wont use now. I need to ring gw and find out how twatsish they are about using counts as characters probably very from my experience. If so I will buy marbo and cut his legs and hands off and mount them on a cadian torso with one of my pig iron heads. They cant really moan as that would still be the marbo model.
I have done the turret to mount on one of the demolishers so I can use it as a leman russ.
A whole squad of veterans is now done apart from base's and the melta gun for the command squad is also done.
The forth sentinel is ready to be painted and I have started work on my vendetta gunship aswell as starting to paint the third chimera and doing the base's of the other three sentinels.
So here we go pic time I will start with the leman russ.
Just the turret done to mount on what was a demolisher so now all three lemanruss are complete to a playable standard.
Now time for the four sentinels
I am quite pleased with how these guys have turned out. Again when the whole army is done there will most likely be additional details painted onto the models.
The wip vendetta
Very much in the starting stages still here. The white on this model seems to be taking me forever to get done but its nearly there then I can start on the details.
My command squad
and the vet squad
Finally the wip chimera
Thats it for now. I wont be able to do any more for a couple of days I have run out of spray paint and I am going for a check up in london tomorrow after the heart operation Ive had.
I hope you all ahve plenty of comments and now Im off to paint strip a Baneblade for one of my other threads.
Goodbye

Sir, your miniatures are looking excellent.
I like the minimalist use of colour (especially the use of grey, a personal favourite of mine) it makes the details and small coloured sections really 'pop' and catch your eye. Nice to see the list evolve aswell.
Marbo rocks; I just hope he can throw that demo charge far enough.
One question - what are the powers that be (almighty GW and all their little familiars) opinions about non GW stuff used in tournament armies? I've heard "70% GW is exceptable" bandied about but I've never been sure about any official ruling. I ask because I'm (very, very, very slowly) adjusting my RT Squats to be used as Guard (in-between what seems like thousands of other random projects, work and owning a wife - I may sadly have the last point the wrong way around) and wanted to take them back to their spiritual home (until the 'nids eat nottingham) at some point for a tourney. I've been really careful to use only GW stuff so far but in a lot of cases it would have been quicker, cheaper and easier - let alone more aesthetically pleasing to use other manufacturers products.
I love what you've done and will follow with interest. If you finish all the painting and modeling well before the GT (which seems likely the speed you are moving - putting me to shame) please continue somewhere in the forums with batreps etc so we can see how the army changes or adapts and how the whole tournament process evolves.
Keep it up.

Thanks chap its nice to get some positive feedback. I will keep the thread going after the army is done It will rpobably turn into a general guard thread some my marine adn guard thread can go back to just marine.
Im not very happy with the marbo myself and I need to ring up gw and find out about thei bollox converting special character rules. I think I might get the normal marbo model and cut the crap out of him giving him a cadian body ect.
GW is normally ona stance that the model had to start as a gw model and must be at least 50% gw. Thats how it was the last time I went to a gt back when they dint have stupid rules and a really crap point system.
You might want to check out my thread about the baneblade I think it would interest you.

Already there my friend. very nice big tank of doom. Would love to convert one into the start of my land train. Can just see my money disappearing down the GW sink hole.
My friend Gonefishing has been in the last few GT's with his legendary Ninja Tau and was v.upset by the new system this year.
Glad to see a valkyrie in there, even if its just a massive distraction for your opponent its worth it.

To be honest mate the vendetta never deploys. I out flank with it to get some side armour or rear by the time it turns up then the opponent has to turn around to deal with it taking them away from my leman russ. I wouldnt use it if it couldnt outflank.
I will do some more of it today I think I want to see it painted.

Ok I got a little game report for ya as requested.
The pictures arnt great but its the best I could do in the light and with my shity shakes.
Ok this is the games start. Chapy (thats what my mate Matty wil be called in this) took the first turn in a dawn of war deployment style game. He deepstriked his demons pretty much where he wanted them being a bit carefull as I did not deploy anything. A tactic I often use in dawn of war to save my starting troops from being slaughtered and to waste a turn of the opponent. I then proceeded to drive all my infantry and battle tanks onto the board leaving the sentinels marbo and the vendetta in reserve.
My initial shooting as things drove on pretty much destroyed one squad of bloodletters leaving things as you see them above.
Then this happened. A soul grinder and big squad of bloodcrushers apeared right in front of my initial armour line. This represnted a potentialy game destroying situation for me.
I did manage to get both my sentinel squads to arrive and on the side I needed them. They were now in a position to pump 4 multi lasers into the back of the soul grinder. But I dint have high hopes for the outcome.
So to make things seem a bit better in ways of me getting out of the gak I done this. All chimeras manovered to dump their veterans and my command squad in an position where the whole lot could rapid fire everything at the bloodcrushers as I knew that they were a bigger threat in the long run than the soul grinder. After all transports and infantry had fired the bloodcrushers had been removed. The sentinels let rip at the soul grinder but only blew off a combat weapon. The near battle tank had shifted sideways so that at least the grinder had to hit it in combat it then fired its cannon at the beast and nearly destroyed itself after a real bad backwards scatter. The far battle tank then fired and also nearly killed the poor leman russ sitting next to the grinder.
The infantry had done well only 1 of 10 plasma guns blew up but as you can see above they now had a new problem.
As expected the blood thirster jumped straight in and assaulted one of my squads and to the flank a demon prince jumped into a sentinel squadron. The soul grinder charged the nearby battle tank resulting in the tanks destruction. The blood thirster failed killing only 3 guard who held firm. The demon prince destroyed both sentinels in the squad.
So in my turn I remanovered. The remaining squads jumped back into their apcs and scattered at full speed away from the bloodthirster. This would mean that where ever he went after the guard finally died he would be alone and have a real hard time hitting me. But the second leman russ could not get very far away. The remain sentinels fired on the demon prince and failed.
Marbo did turn up in this turn he threw and demobomb at the back of the soul grinder and blew its legs off. RESULT. The guard in combat then got slaughtered predictably.
In chapys next turn he deepstriked another demon prince but at the back of the bored which confused me. The bloodthirster charged the next leman russ and only blew its main gun off. And the first demon prince blew up the second pair of sentinels.
In my next turn I repositioned my troops and damaged leman russ around the bloodthirster just as I had done to the blood crushers. They oblitorated it and the leman russ with no main gun took 2 wounds off the demon prince. My command squad drove up the board to fight some blood letters. Also the vendetta turned up pumping all its guns into the new demon prince hurting it twice.
In chappys last turn (turn 5) he flew his demon prince at my vendetta but was no where near. The first demon prince assaulted marbo and it beat him senseless but who dint see that comming. Some bloodletters move onto his objective.
In my final turn I moved my chimeras to fire on his bloodletters holding his objective and moved my troops onto my objective. The command squad got out and killed the second demon prince and between the vendetta and the chimeras his bloodletters where taken down to 2 that wernt on the objective.
The game then ended as we rolled a 1 for game length and resulted in a 1 objective for me and none for chapy. Not bad.
I hope this was ok and you liked it could of done with more pictures but not bad for first battle report?
Hope you like it and have plenty of comments and questions.

Well, I am an efficiency man myself. If the list is working for you, then congrats sir and I am assume it fits your play style well then.
I am a MechVets + LR man myself. I like to make each squad geared towards the same objectives, whether it be anti-tank or anti-infantry. With that said, I would probably give the CCS either all Melta or all Plasma (I am partial to the latter). That will give your CCS a solid distance shot, and will still allow it to be in range to give out orders if all goes according to plan. The Melta will force you to rush in and possibly out of Orders range. With that said, I would possibly drop your LRs and Sentinels for more Vendettas/Valks. My personal preference is for more LRS, so I would drop the sentinels & vendettas, but I read you like to scout. With that said, adding more valks/vendettas will give your opponent more targets while giving you a great air supremacy and firepower. Also some transports incase a chimera or two go down. I have played a little with an AirCav/Mech mix and I had pretty good results. The bonus of the fliers is their firepower they bring, transport capacity, and scout/ DS. With that said, I made a quick list referencing what I said:
- CCS w/ 4x Plasma, Chimera ( ML/ HB)
- 2x Vet Squad w/ 3x Plasma, Chimera ( ML/ HB)
- Vet Squad w/ 3x Melta, Chimera ( ML/ HB)
- Marbo
- Vendetta Squadron (3x) w/ HB Sponsons
- Valkyrie Squadron (3x) w/ HB Sponsons
- 25 Pts left for upgrades...
^That list effectively gives you 4 pieces of armor, crazy marbo, and then 6 Pieces of flying armor which can double as transports if needed. The main issue in your original list was a lack to deal with high toughness targets/ anti-tank. The addition of 9 twin-linked lascannons should help very much. The Valks will provide more target saturation and also anti-infantry fire. If you still need even more higher str. firepower, you can put lascannons on the valks too; alternatively you could drop the valks for more vendettas. This is a highly efficient army, and should be able to take on any other army with relative ease.
This is of course my humble opinion, but if what you have works for you, then that is what is best sir. Anyway, great progress and I have been enjoying the stalking of this thread very much!

Post by: Truffle
Yes I hear what your saying and it all makes sense.
Ill be honest my command squad did have 2 plasma but one was droped for a cheaper melta as I had a couple of points to many. This could be counted by taking the bolter off my commander but that would make him less interesting of a model. I know that does not matter but it makes him stand out.
I dont take leman russ tanks of any sort in higher number and I have a very good reason for this. A leman russ in a squad is inferior to 2 leman russ that are on their own.
The older version of the list had a pair of demolishers together and I also have tryed a pair of leman russ together. I find that they are killed to easily by high fire power armies as the damage criples both at the same time and manoverability is just rubish making them very prone to assault which just oblitorates tank squadrons.
The airborn army I have seen before yes it would be good apart from may hate for squadrons I also hate the model for valkeries and never want to paint another one. Also they are very expensive and I love tanks I have 40 leman russ tanks and love to use them.
For the most part through I think we have very similar views. As for the sentinels dont underestimate them. Having 2 sentinels pop up behind a tank is like having 6 lascannons fire at the front. Just the way I tend to point out my tactics it makes sense.
Does that help you understand my list a bit better?
One last note I expect massive amounts of over powered bloodangel armies with stupid amounts of feel no pain. The battle cannon is the nemmisis of these armies and reason enough to use leman russ over the flyers.

Right got the pictures of finished chimera

Post by: MadMaverick76
Okay, well it seems you have very valid points for what you take and why you take it. I would then probably drop the one Vendetta you have for some more tanks though. That one Vendetta is going to be a magnet for firepower. I would stick with the mech theme and possibly add another Melta Vet Squad? You may need to free up some points, but that would give you even more bodies, and better manurverability. One Vendetta is going to be a magnet for enemy fire.

On the army list note. I want to try not to do any major changes at this stage. You are right if the vendetta was deployed it would take huge fire as it owns my only lascannons but as it always outflanks it always gets to shoot its target first normally in the side or back.
I want to try and stay away from just a line of vets in chimeras and tanks as this is also boring to use and to get the vet I would have to drop some sentinels and that is not an option they perform to well. If I did take more vets would take plasma guns its just the theme kind of wrecked by my one random melta gun :( The removeal of the vendetta for more plasma vets would ruin my anti heavy armour abilitys and taking out the sentinels to would destroy the armies anoyance factor as well as the fact that with botth a vendetta and 4 sentinels popping up randomly at the side with no way for the opponent to know when or where changes the way people play against me. It often makes them much more defensive scared I will hit their tanks from behind.
I do still persist that we think on the same lines but for my very strange playstyle I think my list suits me as a player better. Think that that boltgun might have to go though so I can have 2 plasma guns in my command squad like you said and how it was in the first place. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok heres a couple of picks of what I have done so far today. Not much really just primed the last chimera and managed to get the 20 bases painted black. I will start the drybrushing of them now.
No one got any ideas of how to make that vendettas windows look a bit better yet?
Thanks guys

Really nice army the Pig Arm heads work very well indeed and the armour looks realistic. Where did you get the rules about none GW components at Warhammer World. I keep wondering about attending an event there you see.

I went to a grand tournament 2 years ago and it was the case then that it had to be 50% games workshop and start as a games workshop model. The new rules dont say anything. I did ring them today and they said my counts as marbo would be fine to use in the tournament.
Thanks for the kind words guys its always nice to hear nice things

Excellent use of black and purple to create a very unique looking army. It really makes you focus on the helmets of the troops.

Post by: Truffle
Right guys. Been a little while since I gave you un update I have not been in the mood for painting much.
Basicly I have added ID numbers to all of my tanks now, The command chimera is nearly done but I will finish that before I post pics and I have started doing the vendettas base. But the thing I am most excited about hearing your thoughts on is the dirt I have just started adding to the tanks. I tryed a few things on a hellhound thats not in the army but in the end decided on a very light dusting of brown on the tanks.
What do you guys think?
I hope you all like them Im quite happy with the id numbers and the dirt.
33667
Post by: MadMaverick76
I think it looks pretty good, both the ID numbers and the dirt effect. I think the first effect was a bit heavy on the treads though, almost to the point of making them look rusted/brownish though. I would do it more on the sides like you have and lighten it a bit on the treads. Also the ID number look very very clean, how did you do them?
26179
Post by: Truffle
In reality the models are a bit darker so you dont get that rust look. Although to be honest a bit of rust on a guard tank is never a problem.
The ID numbers are a cheat. I got a strip of vinal numbers and letters. Sprayed them white. Then put them on. Could not believe how well it worked you would never think thats what it was even when you hold the model it looks like they are painted. So yeah pro tip lol.

I really like this army, sort of a commando drop army. You can Imagine them coming out of the mist and gunning down the resistance and disappear into the mist again. Keep up the good work ( can we have some more battle reports? )

Post by: Truffle
Hi guys. So throne of skulls has just finished I have just got home and thought I would let you know how it went.
In the 5 games I played against orks, sisters of battle, imperial guard, Chaos space marines and tyranids.
First game was orks on kill points (not my armys strong point) This was a draw of 7 7 due mainly to a full 10 man ork nob biker squad with a pain boy and 2 warboss bikers joined to it that took me a very long time to take out. Noteable unit in this game was the vendetta killing a battle wagon a squad of boys and one of the war boss bikers.
Second game was sisters of battle on sieze ground with 3 objectives. I managed to steal the first turn and killed 2 of his 3 troops choices and 1 of his 2 exorcist tanks with my initial volly. The game got worse and worse for him from there on. My command squad (which I changed to have 3 melta guns in it) nuked his land raider and massed chimera and battle tank fire oblitorated most other units before the game ended with me holding 2 of the objectives. Note for this game was marbo who turned up behind an exorcist failed to hit it then a calladus? assain turned up next to him assaulted him and he killed her.
Third game was chaos space marines on capture and control. This guy had 2 5 man squads in rhinos 2 demon princes a defiler 5 oblitoraters 3 terminators some lesser demons and a greater demon. This looked like a draw from the start he had all his troops in a forest on his objective and I have 30 veterans in a building on mine. So he decided to charge all out. After shooting a leman russ taking a turret of another and blowing up my vendetta with his first volly Things looked real bad. Then marbo and 2 of the sentinels turned up behind his objective and managed in 1 swoop take the entire lesser demon squad out leaving it unmaned. By this point he was commited to an assault with the rest of his troops and between my 2 now only heavy bolter shooting leman russ and what was left of the infantry and chimeras I managed to hold him off long enough to grab a win.
forth was imperial guard. This army was very similar to mine. He had 4 hydras a manticor 3 vendettas a psyker squad in a chimera 10 vets in chimeras 2 command squads in chimeras and 2 infantry squads. This game was a mess. I launched and all out assault down onw side of the board with all of my infantry to try and grab and hold an objective and try and thin his guns. My vendetta came on from the side and blew one of his out of the sky another fell to a battle cannon and the third was imobile and missing a lascannon. Marbo turned up and bombed a the veteran squad after it shot one of my squads to bits and they then ran of the objective and then off the table. (most important thing he did all weekend) scout sentinels flanked and destroyed his manticor in one blast and damaged a chimera and the squad it was carrying. By the end of the game we had totally destroyed each other and had one objective each. Best game of the weekend by far.
fith was nids. This went badly for him from the start. He had first turn but I had deplyed so nothing could reach me bar a tyrant which imobilised a chimera. I did little in my first turn of shooting but then he droped a trygon a mawlock and doom in a spore pod next to me. Things looked a bit iffy but as doom couldnot hurt my men in their chimeras there was little he could do. The trygon imobilised a chimera. In return I then wiped out the trygon mawlock the spore pod and doom in one swoop. The next to turns were spent reversing while dumping battle cannon shells and lascannons into his hive guard zonethropes and geanstealers which had outflank. These were all destroyed by the end of my third turn leaveing only a tyrant a tervigon and 1 squad of guants in play while I had suffered no losses at all. At this point the player gave up as a bad cause.
So 3 wins 2 draws not a bad set up I dont think. I dint get any pictures as I was to busy playing im afraid. What do you guys think though?
PS I will take some pics with my mates good cam soon now the army is done and post them on here for you asap.

Post by: Truffle
Thanks mate. I really dont think you would have a problem at the tournaments. There was a rebal grot army that used the imperial guard dex. Raven guard using the space wolves dex. An entire kroot army using the nid dex. The chaos army I fought had a greater demon that look like it was just made from a ball of green stuff with some model fly wings jabbed into it.

Right I have finally started paintin my last vet squad and have gotten around to taking some pictures of finished men and all my sentinels. Hope you enjoy.
Astropath first. Need to do his base. Considerin this guy took about 30 minutes I dont think hes half bad.
Now for my sentinels. I got 2 squad pics for ya and then a big group picture.
Lastly a picture of one of my vet squads together followed by a close up of one guardsman from different angles.
Well thats the lot. What do you guys think as CC and comments have been a bit low lately :(
26179
Post by: Truffle
Well over the past 2 days I have managed to paint 4 of the last vet squad and do the grey and white on the other 6. Not bad going.
Need tog et these done so I can start my mass of Imperial tanks that are waitin to be refurbished. Starting with my destroyer tank hunter me thinks.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Right something a bit different for you today. As I have said before when this throne of skulls army is done this will become a general guard thread. As this is nearly here I thought I would start some odd bits and bobs for my guard that I have been waiting to do.
The first thing on my list tog et done was a 10 year old destroyer tank hunter. This tank has had 4 colours already from 4 different guard armies and today I have paint stripped it 3 times and done some repairs. Many new track segments ave been put in where old one had had it and some old mis-moulds and stuff have been removed.
Now the tank looks rough as arse at the minute but those of you that have seen my refurbishing process before know that thats just how its starts once new paint has been applied it will look the same as my other guard tanks.
So here it is so far.
Hope you like the work so far I am looking forward to getting this old girl back on the board soon.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Started painting the destroyer.
Got the base white outline on the main hull and have done the dozer blade. Might add more mud to it later depending what it looks like on the finished tank.
And now for the dozer blade. Wanted a warn look to this like it was black and has been warn down. Lets face it they wouldn't repaint it.
Please leave any comments with CC

I think it is just the picture it looks fine face to face.
Right, I had a game today up a local GW. The manager there is also well into his tournaments.
I played his blood angel army and he won. Nearly a draw but it lasted one turn to long so a loss. Basicly everything that could screw up did just couldnt roll and he poped my anti tank units in one swoops. This was a problem as he had a duel land raider army.
My command squad refused to turn up till turn 5 and when they did they ALL MISSED. So urm yeah not great success.
But a few points came out of it.
1. I have 3 heavy anti tank units. The command squad, A vet squad with 3 meltas and the vendetta. Now the vet squad with melta is in the vendetta as a rule. So when it gets popped well out of the way they are often left sitting there without targets.
This will be no more. The melta vets will swap places with one of the plasma chimera squads. This way I dont have such a glass cannon army when it comes to heavy anti tank and chances are outflanking plasma vets will do more anyway as I can get some nice side and back armour most the time and they can hunker down and fire 24 unlike the melta squad.
2. The command squad really need to have their forth melta gun back I cannot except the 25% drop in firepower from losing one.
This will be done by taking the heavy bolters off the vendetta and using the 10 points for the melta gun. I dont like losing my heavy bolters but I feel the melta is more important.
3. Some how I never noticed you have to specify that you are outflanking when you do your reserves I have always just said reserve. Its never been an issue but as he pointed out it is how its meant to be and if some one wants to be a gakker they can screw your game plan if you dont remember so thats something learned.
He made several suggestions on possible changes but I will not be doing these before the tournament I just dont have time to play test them and many of them I dont agree with anyway, but they are there to keep in mind for the future of the army and include dropping a russ for an executioner.
Anyway. Feedback please on these comments and changes will be most welcome.

It seems a bit plain at the moment. What about some weathering and a little OSL off of that electrode coil thing in the back?
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
I agree with Rawson when he says its a little plain, perhaps have a slight dwarf bronze / gold drybrush on the metal except the tracks for variety whilst still keeping the model dull and awesome and gothic

Truffle wrote:Not a fan of the dwarf bronze Idea to be honest I like the dull metal dont want any true matalic colour on it.

Those were actually two separate ideas. Weathering and OSL from the power coil. I'm invisioning a greenish or light blue glow off of the coil. I think it looks cool being all metal, but you could add some scuffs, a few oil leaks, and some grime on the tracks maybe. Just a few little details to make it more believable and break up all the metal (boltgun metal, I think). Is that a little clearer?
Keep it up!
Cheers,
Rawson

When I do the base it will add dust to the model. What about a blue wash on the little coil at the back. Keep in mind these things are tiny to stuff like rust might be a bit ott. I like the glow idea though do you think a blue was would do the trick?

OTT or just hard? Is it on a 25mm or 40mm base (just for scale)? I think the dust will probably add a lot in the realism department.
If you go with blue, I would say use a different blue than you have for your wires, especially if you feel that the model is pretty small.

26179

Than
Its a 40mm base and the base will be done like my infantry so drybrushed grey then white over black. This will dust up the bottom of the little unit nicely.
I was just gonna try a blue wash over the metal colour.

Anyway I did some more work to the remainng infantry tonight. Been painting their bases. Now just need to touch us as you will se from the pictures they have a major case of dusty boot which I need to correct as having the grey on the boot makes the models and the bases to similar.

Right its all done. A totally average score of 2 wins 1 draw and a loss. Had 2 game shwere it was just a case of I cant roll any dice. But never mind was a good laugh. Will do a more in detail update at some point but I dont have time at the minute I got a back log of Degree work to do before I go back to work tomorrow :(

Nice job 2:1:1 isnt too bad at all, what kind of opponents did you play?

Post by: Truffle
Basicly the first game was against sisters. I lost this as I roled nothing but ones. I got around 11 penertrating hits on his exorcists and did no damage :/ Also he was not wysiwyg he had some bolt pistols painted a different colour to count as melta pistols and I couldnt be arsed to make a fuss. I also later found out he cheated he said the saint had a master crafted weapon she does not and his death cults had feel no pain which they dont.
Second game was necrons. Had a massive laugh with the guy but in the end of the day it was only going one way. I dismantled him.
Third game was against vanilla marines with many terminators. He passed many inv saves so we got a draw.
Fourth was more sisters. After my first turn I had destroyed anything of any threat to my tanks apart from a single exorcist. This ended 12 kill points to me and 2 to him.
Last was another guard army quite similar to mine. I failed nearly every shot and he passed about 8 tank cover saves in a row. Still nearly pulled a draw though but My last squad got tank shocked and ran in the last turn. Bloody good fight though.
So yeah apart from first guy who was a bit of a dick it was really good laid back fun games. Made a point at the start of my games of telling the other player I would much rather I get trounced but have fun than win and we be picky gakkers.

I dont like playing sisters that much, since i have a grudge against a certain penitent engine... i usually play Tyranids and various SM but when i get to play guard then it becomes a nice game. Sounds like you had an eventfull time although that sisters player should be exploded!! Even though i play in tournies i play for a good time which is why i play so many games since people know i perfer them to blow my tank up! instead of destroy them.

It was well worth going. My daylight bulb blew up so I have not taken any new snaps. Am doing necrons and marines now just for a chill out so keep ya eyes open for the other blogs.

Right guys. Brought my ticket for the April throne of skulls yesterday. I have decided I'm taking my guard again but this time it is 1500 again not 1750.
I will write up the list I'm taking at some point but at the minute I'm play testing a few changes.
I have mounted heavy flamers on the hulls of all my chimeras instead of heavy bolters. I have not tested this much but from experience there have been so many time when Ive needed them and the heavy bolters never do that much anyway as the chimeras are rarely static. Having them flamers makes them very daunting to assault troops though as my mate found out with his dark eldar.
I am testing autocannons on 2 of my four sentinels. I have noticed that in games where it is not viable to have my sentinels outflank often multi lasers just done cut it with their 36inch range and strength 6. So losing 2 shots but getting strength 7 will make one squad a bit more flexible for me and they will be more of a threat to heavy side armour tanks to. Im looking at vendettas and storm ravens when I say that.
Now here is the big one. I am thinking of swapping one leman russ and replacing it with a pair of hydra flak tanks and a fleet officer. This is a big swap for me as I love my leman russ so much and have always been dead against hydras. But I have seen that my leman russ although they dont often die also dont often make much of a dent in the game. With the massive amount of skimmers in the game now I was thinking the 2 hydras might be worth a shot?
Anyway here is a couple of pics of the chimera heavy flamers and the sentinel autocannons.
Giant autocannons
Anyway guys I really need some help with these changes. Thoughts are most welcome.

I'm certainly not a pro at list perfectorizing, but the flamer upgrade sounds logical (enough so that I'm now thinking about swapping mine ). I don't agree with your assesment of the Leman Russ, though. They have always more than made up their points when I use them (though I am a bit of a novice IG general). Now, your assesment of the LRBT is a totally different matter than swapping in the Hydras. On that note, I have absolutely nothing to contribute I rock ACs on my sentinels. GREAT multipurpose loadout, imho. Had to make due with some HWT ACs though I see Misplace the standard sentinel ones?
Good luck at Throne of Skulls and keep up the great work!

Yeah I couldnt find them these look a little different anyway which is cool. I like over the top things.
Ive been playing guard for about 10 years now and I love the leman russ. I would never use anything other than the normal battle tank. But time and time again they dont have a massive impact on games. They kill gak dont get me wrong and they are a real hard point unit that people find hard to punch through. But in todays game which is just so full of super fast cover save lightly armoured skimmers I was just thinking that maybe the hydras would help me plug a gap. Dont get me wrong many vendettas have been shot down by battle cannon rounds which is bloody brilliant but its not what they are really for (infantry suppression being their strong point).
How do you use your russ and what weapons do you mount on them?

Well you trump me in experience! I've recently made the switch to IG from Space Marines and Space Wolves. Certainly takes some getting used to!
I'm with you: I only run your standard LRBT (I just think they have the most bang for the buck, and there is better ways to accomplish what the other platforms offer). I typically take the front HB and usually spring for the HB sponsons. I know a lot of people say it's a waste of points, but, as you said, they're hot at infantry suppression and 9 HB shots suppresses a lot of infantry! It's tricky sometimes to manouver the LRBT to be able to utilize the HBs, but I've had some good success with it.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Same here mate I cant see the point in russ without sponsons. They sit still and just gak bullets at the enemy. They can bring down light tanks without a thought and rip men to bits. In most cases my heavy bolters do far more damage than the main guns.
48594

But they LOOK soo cool with autocannons!

Great work! Nice to see the whole army. I'm still not sure about those pig Iron heads but they work well in this army. I now see about the purple theme, looked a bit more pink on the Baneblade though.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Yeah its cos the baneblade wires are so thin.
Had 3 games today testing the changes 2 against my mates demon army and 1 against tau.
The auto cannon sentinels failed nearly all the time and did nothing multi lasers would not. Im scrapping them. I had a game with them last week as well in which they also did nothing.
Heavy flamers although not in their element today did just as much as the bolters would of these will be kept for certain.
Plasma gun veterans. I still seem to be having anti tank problems with situations like tanks getting real close to the vets and I am either just blowing my own men up or they arnt doing anything. After all this time I am starting to think maybe melta guns would be a better bet. I never thought I would say that. Really need some out side views here.
If I take out the 6 plasma guns and change for melta guns and change the auto cannons back to multi lasers I will have 45 points going spare. "already had a lose 5 floating around"
Ideas guys? I was thinking a 5th sentinel and heavy bolters on the vendetta.
Still thinking about swapping a leman russ out for 2 hydras. But really don't know if I can take losing one of my armour 14 fire base's
I really need some outside thoughts here guys as Im in a little bit of a rut.

Post by: Reaper Man 2020
I've heard that Hydras are cool and cheap! I would go with the multi meltas as they will hurt less! Extra sentinel allways good!

I do. Mostly 'cause I hate killing my own troops with plasma but they also cost less than plasma. You trade ROF and range for strength, but if I recall correctly, you've been having problems with tanks getting too close, yeah?
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Meltas are the proverbial "sliced bread" of the current 40k edition, and unfortunately almost the only way to stay competitive with IG by spamming meltavet squads.

I converted my own meltas from CoD bitz and flamer bodies, because I was short of them at the time.
No need to order more, unles of course you want to

Post by: Truffle
Its a pain in the arse converting guard to hold decent looking guns as the hands are part of the gun.
I have ordered 2 forge world hazard teams with melta guns. That will give me the 6 meltas and some funky parts i can sell to make the money back.

naa, if Cadians, just slice the hand at the sleeve, if Catachans, slice wherever.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Nearly all the cadian hands are part of the lasgun so its a faff with the exception of one hand. Its mute anyway I have no spare meta guns to put in their hands Automatically Appended Next Post: On a totally different note I have added an ID number to the old plasma leman russ hull that wont be used in throne of skulls any more. Mounted a nice plasma turret onto it and done gun burn on the plasma cannons so its ready for some apoc games.
Would never use this over a normal russ in a tournament but it is one of the many imperial tanks I own that all need doing for some massive games in probably many years

looks good, i like the effect on the barrel, and i think that the pink plasma coils go really well with the tanks colors

Thanks chap. I think the burn on this is the best looking anyy of the tanks has
Ok big update today. Firstly the guys in the painting a modelling showcase forum have asked for a step by step painting guide to my tanks. With this is mind I have sniffed out another of my imperial guard tanks, a forge world vanquisher with extra side skirts in this case and paint stripped rebuilt updated and base coated it ready to start the guide.
Also today my forgeworld melta guns arrived. These were a state. I have taken pics of them in the box so you can see how they come. I have washed them cut their heads of and replaced them with pig iron heads and given them legs and all the repair work they needed to be ready for a base spray.
So firstly here are a load of pics of the tank.
This is its old paint job.
This is after the first paint strip.
Thats after the second.
Thats after a clean and repair work. I also removed the storage unit next to the engine as it was full of gak and it looks better without it in that state.
And here we are ready to be painted.
Ok so the melta guns. Terrible state these were in. Forge worlds bad but gak me
This was what they came like. I thought the heads backpacks and heads were seperate so this gave me the instant problem of head removing. As it happens that was very easy and they came off in one bit so I now have some very cool cadian heads in can sell
One model had a real issue
You might want to click on these 2 photos to get a bigger look at the melta gun. As you can see it had a rather big split.
I am not the best with greenstuff but it is now smooth and flat so when painted the fact that it was total gak should be hidden up a bit.
Here is a snap of the models with their new heads.
And finally a quick snap of them fully built after I dug out some legs.
So guys comments as always please. Hope these things were not a waste of money.

Post by: Truffle
Thank you chaps im glad you like them.
Have you got any pics of your guard if they are similer to mine?
The turret I dunno what forgeworld do now. This one is very old and second hand I dint buy it new just refurbed it.
I dunno about more vendettas. With 6th ed comming this year with the real chance of huge changes to the way things work I think im going to hold fire. I nearly brought a second one to take to the april throne of skulls but to be honest apart from the fact that they cost to much I hated building and painting it Im afraid. It was a job of requirement not joy lol.
Anyway hant had a chance to paint this weekend got called into work yesterday and was airsofting today. If you dont know what airsoft is heres a pic.

I've got some Cadians but they aren't really similar to yours, I went all boring and did them quite standard. Your picture made me laugh, don't take this the wrong way but it's the sort of thing the press get hold of after you've shot 20 people and they say here was a pic 10 yrs ago, there were always signs he was unhinged! I haven't played airsoft but it does look very cool! Does it hurt much?
32169
Post by: Rogue Wolves
not really, well yea but you get used to it (at least i did) although it dosent hurt as bad as a paintball being as a bb is much smaller
26179
Post by: Truffle
Hes right a paintball hurts more but why fire paintballs 20 meters with a shity tube looking gas gun when you can fire bbs more maccurately at 60 meters with a proper gun an m16 a3 ras being the one in my photo. So much better. Yeah your not alone thinking thats a dodgy picture most of my work mates are like wtf when they see them
Anyway I will be doing the wash work on that vanquisher tonight so pics soon.

I will do the mud next and then the gun burns and will just about be done.

And here is the battletank.
Might get some more work done on the melta gun vets today aswell. I will point out that as of yet in the few games I have played my melta guns hant done anything. Also I was thinking maybe droping 1 melta in each squad and putting a heavy flamer in? What do you guys think of that one?

Nice words as always
Ok next up is number 1. I took out another leman russ to strip and add to the ever growing ranks of refurbs and it turned out that it was number 1. Thats right my first ever leman russ tank being a good 14 years old and having 4 different paint jobs was a state. Now it is stripped and repaired ready to be base coated.
I figured as it is number 1 it should be my first squadron command tank which will head up alpha squad number A116. And as such I have given it some more advanced lighting and targeting equipment to show its rank.
Heres the pics.
Thats post stripping.
And thats how she sits now.
One to watch here guys.

Hey everyone. Quick update for you all. Still play testing my army at this stage. But I am thinking of swapping out marbo and instead having a 6th sentinel and a heavy flamer in each of my 3 veteran squads instead of 1 of the meltas. Thoughts on this?
Also I have been working on a pair of leman russ tanks here are some snaps for you.

is it just for looks that they all have heavy flamers? the left one looks fine, natural posing, but i think that the middle one is a little too turned to the side on those odd legs.. but if you are like me and just throw those into he pile to be picked last during building, i know those legs just overall suck

They do all have heavy flamers. Its one for each of the 3 squads.

Ok guys hant really been in the mood for painting this week and what I have done has been for the club I run. We have made a big old space port and every week I am bringing a bit of it home to paint. Here is this weeks just thought you might like to see it. Its just a little bastion.
Simple paint job but I think its nice. Not like anyone will be greatfull for it anyway Hope you like.

Post by: Rawson
The mini-bastion looks good. Terrain is always underappreciated
You've got drybrushing down to an art now, it seems
How about a little weathering? Depending on the story of your spaceport, you could do just a little or a whole lot (but I've never seen a port that didn't look well used )
Keep up the good work!

Post by: Truffle
Im afraid this is as far as the bastion goes. Its not mine its my clubs and its jsut not worth spending much time on the club stuff as people abuse it to much. Just a nice neat gamming standard is far more than most clubs get.
I just finished 2 of the forgeworld melta vets and have finished building and base coated the 3 heavy flamer guys. Tryed to take some pics but the light is crap at the minute so I couldnt get any worth putting online. I will try again tomorrow.
Thanks for the drybrushing compliment though chap. Just a random question is there any guard models in particular any one would like to see me do as I have quite a cache of models to do and as far as tanks go at least I could probably do any requests. Also have an arvus lighter that needs doing.

Fair enough. I agree with your "gaming standard" goal; nobody hands out Golden Demons for terrain

I would like to see some Tallarn models painted, but I don't think that's what you meant

Post by: Truffle
No Im afraid thats not what I ment mate.
What I have got going is a new command chimera. I obtained this from a mate who done the main conversion years ago. So I cant claim to of done the main conversion. I have simply moved the turret ring back added all the storage and cleaned it up a bit. Im thinking of mounting a predator turret with a multi laser into it. Ive got an old metal predator turret to which might look cool?
Please share thoughts on this one.
Ideas?

Kind of stating the obvious, but I think it will look much better when painted. Looks like it will be great though.
Your other stuff is top class - you seem to have mastered drybrushing and highlighting to a T. The Russ's look great.

Post by: Rawson
I think it's a cool concept, and I'm ever supportive of people converting their vehicles (especially chimeras, as I don't particularly like the design).
I really like the body mods that you've pulled off with your chimera. I think the extra bulk looks more realistic, and I like the profile that it has.
That being said, I'm not a fan of the turret, mostly because it changes the profile that I liked so much! I also think the multilaser looks too puny on the predator turret. What about a smaller, non-manned turret (i.e. even smaller than the standard chimera turret)? I think that would keep the first profile and match the scale of the multilaser better.
Good luck!

Thanks for the commanets guys.
Awww Rawson you see here is our first disagreement I feel like this is a stepping stone for our relationship
I love the predator turret you see. I put a normall turret on it and dint feel it was powerfull enough for the rest of the tank. I considered a baneblade sponson turret but got rid of that idea fast. Also considered an old metal predator destructor turret but dismissed that out of modelling hassel as its metal and its a strange design. I think the multi laser is cute I near gave it a coaxial stubber where the light is so it would of been like a mini leman russ exterminator.
Once again I will stress I dint do the main body conversion. I dont want to take the credit for other peoples work.

I am always a fan of the Predator turret on Chimeras, mostly after seeing it appear in a "closer-to-tabletop" mod for Dawn of War. I think it just looks better.

58th Talorian mechanised elite
The 58th Talorian is a fully mechanised force of hardened veterans made up of the best of the Talorian infantry. Supported by the vast ranks of tanks in the 16th Talorian armoured regiment, elements of the 11th recon and sections of a super heavy regiment the Talorian 58th makes for a worthy foe. Most recently engaed against Tau forces pushing into Imperial space the Talorian 58th has seen itself pushed into a 2 sided battle. When the invading Tau force moved on the planet of Conder secondus initial counter attacks from the Talorian forces stationed there were successfull untill an unkown chaos incursion forced the 2 sides to fight as one when a massive demonic invasion of the planet errupted out of nowhere. The Talorian and Tau forces joined by elements of the Crimson fists and Corpser space marine chapters are now in a prolonged battle against the forces of chaos demons and deathguard traitor marines.
Losses are extremely high and the force is fighting a holding sitiuation untill it can be pulled off world and the planet can be virus bombed (with the Tau still on planet side).

Gotta love the Gunboat Russes!
I'm curious though: why the single shotgun in the vet squads?
Also, how do you usually deal with TEQs with this list? Meltas a plenty overall, but only two per squad. Doubleteam?

the shotgun is the sarge just cos its cool.
TEQ I duno what that stands for at risk of being thick?

Terminator Equivalent. 2+ save stuff.

I try and drown them in shots with a few placed meltas and lascannons. If its a whole army I try to out manover them. Im normally ok but it is a bit of a weakness. You cant be good against everything and even when I had loads of plasma it was still a drag.

Little update for you all.
The three heavy flamers are nearly done and I have done a little bit more to the new command chimera.
Have been doing much playtesting to.
2 Games against my mates space wolves. He runs 2 land raiders packed full with marines and commanders and a rhino full of grey hunters and a squad of scouts.
In first game I massively over committed my infantry to killing his land raiders. They died but my men got floored by the angry wolves that came out. I totally fethed up the game. Learning curve.
Second game went in slower. Vendetta claimed a raider before it even moved and I sent half my infantry to deal with the other. Once it was dead the lemanruss tanks floored his infantry and my vendetta hit his wolf priest with 3 lascannons. He died.
Played against my mate with grey knights. He runs gaydo I mena draigo with 2 squads of paladins in 2 land raiders. I killed nearly everything with very little lose but it was a kill point game and he has 5 kill points. I needed another turn to finish his army so I lost.
2 Games against my other mates meq blood angels army. 2 baals 2 raiders and 2 razorback squads plus terminators in one of the land raiders.
First game trashed him second game got a draw on kill points after a leman russ blew up half a vet squad and the rest ran off the board. Derp.
Not to bad though. Heavy flamers are killing much gak.

Right I finished the third flamer today. Just started basing them and 3 melta guys so I have a fully painted list for a local club tournament im going to. Wish me luck guys.

Right guys. No new guard units but here is a massive wip from my club that I thought you would all like to see.
All of this is wip at the moment. The back space port was the initial section. As we got more into the design it turned out that ground level landing pads would be easier to use and keeping all of the sections lose off base sections made the whole thing more usable in game.
I will point out that for the most part I had nothing to do with this int erms of building. The guy who owns the cyber cafe did most of it as he is very handy with figuring out how to build special things and very hany with plasticard.
No comes the process of finishing it all off painting it and getting you some good photos.
Hope you like it CC welcome.

Wow! Looks great! I always love playing on "big" pieces of terrain
You should write up some fun missions to play with all of that great terrain!
Truffle wrote:As we got more into the design it turned out that ground level landing pads would be easier to use and keeping all of the sections lose off base sections made the whole thing more usable in game.
We have found the same thing in our club. Leaving the legs on the pads make for some "less-than-smooth" game mechanics.
Good luck!

Glad you are enjoying it mayfist.
I have not been in a guard painting mood lately so it might be a little while untill I get the new command chimera done. I have not even done any of my epic steal legion army in a couple of weeks.
Progress with the next baneblade is comming along nicely though at least untill I get to fixing the heavy bolter barrels. Thats gonna be a chor :(
Its throne of skulls next week though so keep an eye open for pics.

Ow it will get done. But its gonna take a while
26179
Post by: Truffle
Right guys. Throne of skulls is once again over. I have taken way to many pics to post on here so will give you a quick round up instead.
Game 1vs nids with kill points. Nid army was 2 tervigons a trygon 2 primes and a gak load of gaunts and 6 hive guard. Due to massively bad roll to hit for the entire game and the hive guard decking my vendetta I lost this one but It was one that could of easily gone my way in several places.
Game 2 vs space marines. A bike heavy army to full squads some attack bikes a bike captain a scout squad lead by tellion? a thunderfire cannon and a vindicator. This was done on multiple objectives. After my 5th turn he had 2 scouts left. A marine bike army was never gonna put up much of a fight against the guard.
Game 3 vs dark eldar. A really big assortment of stuff from razorwings to hellions and a pair of talos engins. This game ended turn 5 as a draw. It was one objective a side and I had d2 chimeras full of men just 8 inches from his objective. If only I had had another turn!!
Game 4 vs orks. This dude had 60 boys in 3 loads of 20 a big mek with a custom force feild and 6 killa cans. This was then back up with mr snikrot and his commandos comming on from the rear. The guy had pulled off the massive cigarette tactic of let thraka join the commandos and he comes on the board with them. Ow dear I thought. So how I combated this was to deploy a line of tanks straight from one side of the board to the other all spaced 1 and a half inch apart blocking the entire back of the board so thraka could not come on. When he came on the side I just drove the other way. This game was a win to me after turn 7 he had 1 boy and the mek running away and a nob with 1 wound in combat with a whole squad of guard.
Game 5 vs CRONS! I wanted to play crons as I think the whole codex is gak and wanted to be proven otherwise. This dude had 3 barges, 2 ghost arkes with warriors and a cryptek in each, a command barge with a lord in it, 2 squads of 5 scarabs and 2 squads of 8 immortals with a cryptek in each. This game was kill points. I got first turn and he played the whole solaa pulse trick. Yeah great my chimeras have searchlights so in my first turn I just lit up the closest squad and decimated it with my whole army. When the sentinels outflanked behind him and started shooting down barges the game was as good as over straight away. He gave up turn 5 8 kill points to 5 in my favor.
So 3 wins 1 draw which was properly close to a win and a loss. Thats not bad. Ow for the sake of arguement I was the second highest scoring guard army in the tournament. Happy me
What you guys recon? I will post some of the pics soon.

Quick update for the club space port. Work has begun on the second landing pad. It is base coated and has its metal drybrushing done. Here are some wips.
Coming along nicely.
Also. The next tournament for the imperial guard is a 1750pts one. So The question is out there. What do you guys think I should add to the army with the extra 250pts?

Its not really missing anything I dont think. I was playing with more vets or adding some characters but now I have decided to use my space marines.
This will give me a break from guard and the marine list im gonna use is quite nasty if somewhat all or nothing.

Post by: Truffle
Right folks who is ready for a huge guard revamp?
As my SilverSkulls are nearly done it is once more guard time. Work has continued on my Baneblades but more importantly I have come up for a plan for a new list for 6th ed that is well a bit different. I have also started work on some nice air power for apoc games.
So here is what is going on.
First up a wip Fortress of Redemption.
The new army list is very defensive. Its a simple turtle and destroy the enemy at range. When they die go and take the objectives. It will revolve around this fort
Next up some extra air power.
To add some mobility and a proper anti tank and anti air punch, the army will include 3 Vendettas not just one like the old list. This also gives me a lot of objective grabbing power if I need it as I will be having a very cheap infantry platoon which can either sit behind the fort lobing shells over it or get in the vendettas to be dumped on objectives at the end of games.
And now for the really fun part. I will be doing quite a bit of apoc soon so here is a new wip beasty.
And with its escorts.
Watch this space

Thanks mate. I started doing some paintwork on the next gunship. Tried to use a bigger brush and it just looked gak.
I restarted with a little brush and managed to get it looking pretty much the same. Here is the test wing.
Might get a bit more done today while I am finishing off the last drop pod for my space marines. Got lots of other guard stuff to get on with to. I am currently putting together 6 magnetic heavy weapons so I can swap and change

All those fliers are sweet! I like the lightning bolt thing you got going on with the Valkyrie wing. The bomber is a whole new level of cool. Funny, when I clicked on this blog I was expecting silver skulls. I guess these guys will do.

Glad you are liking these to You guys seem to be only 2 regular posters these days
I got some nice magnetized heavy weapons for you tonight
It is most likely that these will be autocannons but the amount of times in the past I have brought heavy weapons then decided I wanted different ones and so I sold them is just mental. This time I can just change when I need to.
I have brought 6 heavy weapons they will all be done like this and with a bit of part scrounging from old guard models and a few spare 60mm bases I will also be able to build 6 motar teams and 6 missile teams Will help save a bit of cash in these hard times lol.
Anyway guys what do you think?

Good Stuff, I like where your head is at. I lose too much stuff to end up magnatiizing sadly :/
26179

I should be ok I am normally pretty good like that.
I have started the green stuff work on the bomber but its gonna take a long time and I still dont think I will get it perfect. I am not that great with green stuff and there are some pretty big feth ups on the model.
34514
Post by: 40kFSU
Nice heavy weapons, I have always wanted to magnetize them but I either get lazy or screw it up. Glad to see you pulled it off. It always kills me to get that set, with all its options, and leave most of it on the sprue. I'll consider these guys a win for me too, out of principle.
26179
Post by: Truffle
I found it dead easy. I have not drilled in the magnets or anything but once the base is painted you wont see them at all.
Did some work on the second Vendetta gunship tonight its coming along nicely now.
This one is coming up nicer than the first one did. When I have finished it I will do some work on the first one as it could use some touch up where paint has warn off.

Got some more green stuff done on the destroyer last night but it still has a tone of work to do before its ready to paint.
Today has been spent doing more work on the second vendetta gunship. It has more of its base colour done now and also has a lascannon and the landing gear on one wing.
Will be usable as in fully built, then I will do the same to the third one so I can use them in a tournament at the end of the month
Pics for you.

Can we expect lightning bolts on these as well? Or different markings? I'm not usually a fan of gray extreme highlights on black but these really work. Maybe because they have a thicker, dry brush feel? Meh, either way it's cool.

Glad you are enjoying the army.

Thanks man. There is some variation in tone from tank to tank but on the board you dont see it and it does not matter really.
Got some more work done on the gunships today. Nearly got them both to a state where they can be put in a game.
Also I have ordered 2 bombard to use as heavy mortars
Here are the wips.
Sorry about the poor quality these are just quick snaps in the living room which has gak lighting.

Not in the mood to paint gunships today so been doing some work on the fort. Here is a few quick wips.

Got a couple of bits of progress for you today.
Firstly some quick wips of the fort as it stands now. Yes they are not well lit yes they are not great quality no please dont point that out lol.
The main tower is a chore. Just getting it done to a basic standard to get on the table is taking a while and its drinking my wash lol
In other news another Vendetta is finished. Well apart from its base and the lightning but it will be a while before I add that to the wings.
Again just quick snaps I will do some better ones at a later date. Good progress though

Post by: Truffle
Thanks dude I will check it out.
Done some building today. Bombards arrived yesterday so I got stuck into building them. One is now built and had some undercoat but as I started building the second one I noticed it was missing its side armour. They sent to right hand sides and no left :/
Anyway here is some wips of the first one.
Now this has had a few little mods. Because the bombard was made before a collosus was crapped into the new codex out of nowhere just so in the future they can make a multi part artillery box it means that it does not have a hull gun and it used to have its own rules.
In the new imperial armour it has been renamed the collosus bombard and is now a collosus on a leman russ hull using the excuse that they are built on both hulls.
So I added a hull gun to it using a sponson flamer that I cut up and popped on a search light and some smoke launchers.
Will hope to get started on the painting tomorrow.
Also today I have done a load more greenstuff work to my destroyer. It is pretty much ready to paint now just needs some magnets under the wings to hold its missiles.
Might be having a big game tomorrow night will be taking this along with me.
CC as always

Right followers Got some progress pictures of the Bombard for you.
And since I took those pics I have done company stripes on one side.
I am liking its progress as when it was just being started it looked really bad. Think it will turn out ok though.
CC comments?

Hi guys. All very quiet on here loads of views but no comments. No one like Bombards?
More wips of it tonight it has its mud done now and is nearly complete apart from a company stripe on one side a few purple cables and other tiny bits.
But before that here are some quick snaps of a 3500 point game I had saturday night. They were taken on my phone so are not great but thought you might like them.
That is near the end of the game. My answer to chaos marines taking an objective.
That Prince killed my Baneblade :(
Anyway time for the bombard.
I hope you like it so far. I love it and will probably buy a third when I have painted the first 2.

Truffle you have a woeful lack on comments on here for the quality of work you produce! Let me try and fix that! Firstly I have to say I love your scheme, its simple but striking and doesn't take an a year to paint a figure which is more than i can say for my army! (the purple in particular is a fine choice, purple is a very unappreciated colour i feel!)
I love your bombards, very nice concept i have to say!
That destroyer is simply huge! i had no idea! (cant wait to see it painted up!
Keep the updates coming sir.

Great work on the guard! You have clearly spent quite a bit at Forge World. I have just acquired quite a few tanks off Ebay including three bombards myself, not built my vendettas yet.
The purple does go well with your scheme and you are cracking through the models at quite a pace. Keep up the good work!

I second what these guys are saying. I think this is the first Bombard I have seen all painted up, it looks great. Never considered getting one, maybe I will. Also the blue and white markings are a nice touch.

Post by: Ross74H
I dunno, I'v only just seen this and those Bombards actually look very nice.
I quite like the purple searchlight as well, it makes a change to the "normal" blue / yellow version. Kind of almost looks like some kind of infra-red version.
26179
Post by: Truffle
Woot that was a change of pace thanks guys.
Yes the Destroyer is massive its a huge ball ache placing it on board even with a 18 inch high stand .
Im glad you like the bombard. The second ones side armour still has not arrived so cannot start painting it yet :(
I have been doing some work on my third vendetta gunship today trying to make it look semi nice for a doubles tournament on sunday.
I have taken some quick shots of what I will be using.
Also there is marbo in the army I just forgot to put him in the pictures
My allies half of the army has a fort of redemption so the bombards can sit behind that and my command squad can hide in it until the gunships arrive. The vets will deploy in gunships or in bunker depending on mission on enemy. Marbo will be a dick cos thtas what he does.
My mates army is nurgles chaos marines. Got all infantry. havoks and oblitorators in the bunker with 2 squads of plague marines that can go in bunker or whatever depending on mission and a lord with just a bolter to man the lascannon
Should be fun its a nasty army. Test game tonight.

Post by: uk_crow
Firstly, great looking stuff as usual truffle. Secondly the marauder destroyer is massive, i didn't realise the size of them until you posted that one of it being used in a game, it dwarfs the Baneblade in size even!

Awesome to see some nicely painted bombards! I think this is one of the first I've seen outside of the FW website. I'll add one to the giant list of stuff to paint.... one day...!
Any plans to do any crew? Would be cool to make a battery of them with spare shells, gunners and so on!
26179
Post by: Truffle
Yeah the destroyer is silly sized
I might well do some crew at a later date. Just getting them on the board at the minute.
Had a couple of games with the fort last night. That was a learning game and a half lol works well though I really like it I recommend it for all none tank based guard armies.
