Hi,
First a summary of all news by Grimstonefire. Then, further down, a collection of pics.
Grimstonefire wrote:I have done a full summary of everything I'm aware of (credit to all those who posted on warseer).
I didn't think it was worth making a new thread, but of the mods want me to I'll edit this out and start a new one.
Release date
Rumoured that some models will be out by Christmas (2010), Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos out Feb/March/April time
The launch was originally intended for 2012 but the company want to start seeing a return on the investment in design so they will likely launch in early 2011 with 6-8 pieces and then a second wave to follow shortly after.
The production cycle is around 3 months and starting in November so around February release, Paul Rudge said that the books are being produced through Forgeworld and that there was one more IA book to come then this then another IA book then a slot which was undecided which could be the second of these.
Models intended for release (as far as I know)
Theodor Bruckner on Demigriffon (and on foot) the emperors new champion
Marienburg Land Ship
Tamur Khan a nurgle ogre ( possibly a human) riding the toad dragon.
Chaos Dwarf Siege Bombard (will have a chained ogre to load it with a couple of CD 'motivators')
Chaos Dwarf Skullcracker
Chaos Dwarf Magma cannon
Chaos Dwarf Demolition rocket
Chaos Dwarf Steam Engine
Chaos Dwarf Engineer (possibly also the second one)
Carmine Dragon
Chaos Ogre
Nurgle WoC Command
Plague Toads
Plague Toad rider
Spawn
Models showcased but unlikely to be released
Empire upgrade sprues on display won’t be produced (the fits weren't tight enough) but they will likely re-work them and then release.
Nurgle champion unlikely to be released
Rumoured models
Third Nurgle Ogre
Third Nurgle Troll.
Various riders for Carmine Dragon (Empire mentioned)
A mammoth with ogres on it
Plastic monsters for next year!
Possible Vermin Lord
One of the land train carriages will be a platform for a regiment of CD blunderbussers and that they will be released separately followed later on by command models.
More Plague Toad riders
Other rumours
Bull Centaurs
Chaos Dwarfs with Great Weapons (possibly also with halberds??)
Hobgoblins on foot and on wolves
Lord on Great Taurus
CD Sorcerer
Warrior Priests of Taal
Warrior Priests of Morr
Warrior Priest on a Griffon
A boat-like flying ship, with wing-oars.
Possible add-ons to the Doomwheel or Screaming Bell sets
Most of the Chaos Dwarf stuff will be split between books 1-2 as the models have either just been started or are still in the concept phase.
Rick confirmed they were not planning to release CD as a complete army.
The artillery train was described as akin to the warhammer equivalent of a nuke which would fire up over the walls into the centre of the city and level it!
Info on Warhammer Forge
They can't start making FW versions of regular infantry units as that treads on the studios toes, so they intend to do upgrade kits to get around this.
Things like Kislev, CD and hobgoblins would be treated as allied forces, not stand alone armies.
Dogs of War may get some treatment, but only in the form of Regiment of Renown unit/command upgrades for warhammer army book units.
Similar format to the imperial armour books; story line, characters, army lists, special rules and figures to go with.
The books will NOT contain photographs of the models, they will only be artwork. The idea is that the Warhammer Forge books will be of the "era" and be illustrated manuscripts. I guess it also allows them to release models for them years later, as they only have artwork as the placeholder.
The Warhammer Forge books will be linked and span several volumes detailing an expansion of Chaos. This is not written as an unbroken narrative but rather as a selection of scenes or encounters, parts of the story which give the background for the battles.
It will be spread over more than 40 chapters and follows the fortunes of the key characters.
The first book follows the fortunes of Tamur Khan for a bit then leaves him hanging whilst following the fortunes of one of his lieutenants for example or spotlighting events elsewhere in the warhammer world which have a bearing on the tale, before returning to the main characters again. All sumptuously illustrated with fine artworks and wonderful maps showing the routes followed by the main protagonists so we can place the events in the warhammer world as the story unfolds.
Rick has actually scaled out the WFB map in his own way to plan out how long it would actually take an army to march etc.
Rick basically wants to muck around with the timeline and advance it in these books.
The first book features the expansion of Nurgle into the West; Nurgle WoC, Chaos Dwarfs, Ogre Kingdoms and Empire.
The second book concludes the Nurgle expansion, and has some Dwarf models
Second expansion is Tzeentch into the south, fighting the Lizardmen (presumably O&G as well).
Third expansion is Slaanesh into the East, fighting ‘elves’ (presumably High Elves and Dark Elves).
Forth expansion is Khorne into the North.
Note that there will probably be 2 books per chaos god, and there may not always be a book with chaos in, if there is something significant happening somewhere else in the world that has some bearing on the overall story.
Book 1 Tamurkhan - The Throne of Chaos
Planned and written by Rick Priestley.
Lots of bespoke Adrian Smith artwork will feature in the first book.
Ostermark mentioned.
Storyline
The first book either starts or ends with the emperor presumed dead along with all or most of the counts. Esme Stoutheart the Halfling becomes the emperor, this lasts for a short while. The new emperor’s son was kidnapped by orcs and sold to chaos slavers, he's a dark sorcerer.
The books may start at a later time, many years from the current time, when the Empire truly is in ruins, a corpse waiting to be eaten by vultures
The stories are to represent the next, biggest and probably last great incursion. Some well known special characters will probably be killed off. The conclusion of this campaign (all the books) would be not just the end of the empire but the entire warhammer world hence definitely an alternative / future timeline
The first book Tamurkhan focuses on Tamur Khan (a Nurgle worshipping warlord) who is marching west through the lands of the Chaos Dwarfs and the Ogre Kingdoms. Finally ending up in the Empire.
Tamur has taken the form of an Ogre as he takes on the form of whatever he kills, otherwise he is just a big maggot or a lot of small maggots which are release when he is wounded.
The 4 brothers (major powers) divide the world into quarters, each heading in a different direction. The Nurgle invasion starts just north of the mountains of mourn. Some ogres fight against chaos, some join chaos. They then move on through the steppes and dark lands, picking up chaos dwarf and hobgoblin allies and fight their way over the mountains and along the Reik towards Marienburg. at some point the Nurgle lord bathes in the Reik and turns it to pus. The plague toads are either daemons who have used the befouled Reik as a warp rift or possessed/mutated wildlife from the river.

1. Confirmation of Chaos Dwarves - Groovy!!
2. Demigriffon and rider looks interesting.
3. Nurgle gribblies, whilst fun, annoy me to see once again, like their 40k stuff, it's going to be Nurgle and Khorne. Where is the Slaaneshi funstuff?

Wow. Once again this new stuff looks great, I completely agree with Gonads, it definitely has a very WHFB image to it whilst still looking very, very good.
I know this stuff is Forge World, but despite their crappy customer service/care, Games-Workshop definately produce the best models and therefore should be the lead retailer for such things.
More great stuff from Games-Day.

I foresee this project going well if they don't overdo nurgle like FW does. The possibilities for unique models and unit upgrades are damn near endless.

I'm not personally interested in plague toads or chaos dwarves, but I feel like the Warhammer Fantasy world just isn't right without them. I've never liked goofy steam contraptions for Empire or regular Dwarves, but for CDs it fits. I wish we could see some slaves shoveling coal, but maybe they will come with time.
Not sure about the demigryphs. They look quite similar to the Kroot Knarlocks. But then the Knarlocks are pure awesome, so these should be too.

GW will release a plastic one. And FW made it clear that they will do their own thing, not filling holes in GW's miniature range.
From another thread:
Little lord Fauntleroy wrote:Got some stuff on Chaos Dwarves:
Engineers, crew, and some machines are done. You can probably find some pictures floating around somewhere.
There is no current plans to reintroduce Chaos Dwarves as a major army-rather, they will be worked into the other Chaos lists.
There are no plans to produce any Chaos Dwarf 'grunts' so to speak at this moment in time.
Artwork for Hobgoblins, Bull Centaurs, and Tauros are done. And if the art is anything to go by, yes, you will want a Tauros.

The Chaos Dwarf stuff looks very, very mid 90's to me. I love that era and that's basically been their spiel, but something doesn't sit quite right with me. They're WIP though, so whatever it is I don't like will probably be fixed right quick.
The Plague Toads are cool. I can see somebody using them with Plague Marines for some sort of Thunderwolf Cavalry counts-as. Some very expensive counts-as, mind you.

Since the current Chaos Spawn are no good, those Nurgle toads would make great Nurgle ones, or great Greater Deamons even. Not sure about all the other stuff like the trolls. I still think Plague Bearers are sublevel and could use the attention.
Pretty good stuff though all around. I wish I could make collecting and painting 100 different armies a full time, well paying job...

I was speaking to one of the WF designers about CDs. He said he can't see them doing CD infantry because (though he thinks theyre awesome and would love to see a CD army) there would be too many infantry models. He said until they can get the costs down, they won't be happening.

That seems a real shame because the Chaos Dwarves are so expensive on eBay and unavailable from GW. I'd rather see them given som infantry rather than merely a collection of warmachines to attach to current Chaos Warriors armies. Could they not do a plastic Chaos Dwarf regiment them? There are beastmen and a load of daemons and other stuff, thorwing us a single plastic Chaos Dwarf regiment would allow them to be used in addition to a regular Chaos army like these warmachines, or they could allow people to collect an entirely Chaos Dwarf army.
For those of us not up on the fluff, who is this Theodor Bruckner character?

Interesting stuff... unfortunately, although it's cool to see a race come back from the grave of updates / acknowledgement that they even exist, I'm not interested in getting chaos dwarves.
I was hoping for a good model to use an alternative to the curren (and tired, imho) giant model. There is a "giant giant" model but nothing suitable for this...
Any word on when most of it is coming out? I saw one mention of early next year for an item in this thread, is most of this looking to be out next year?

Well I'lll get the CD Engineer definitely and then try and save up for a Skullcrusher.
And to be honest about CD infantry, there's been a lot of people saying different things, many saying the designers told them whatever their saying so I'm not sure who to believe.
Way I see it is if enough people buy the CD stuff it'll show there's a market for them and infantry will be made eventually (well I really hope that'll be the case)

Lol. To say I had a very strong feeling they would be doing chaos dwarfs since about may 2008 will probably be a sufficient 'I told you so'.
From what I gather they've brought the whole project forwards a year to try and recoup costs. Probably why they've chosen to focus on nurgle first (the most popular god I believe), and the most expensive CD things first.

Grimstonefire posted this from his friend Loki:
CDs are back I have good high quality pics of every thing , even the concept art , there will be a new book , foot troops, hobgoblins on foot and on wolfs , and loads of war machines , stuff will be out by Christmas.
(...)
Answers to a few question that I have seen, yes it's this Christmas that some of the cd stuff will be out by, a book with CDs in will be out march, April time, and about foot troops I can only go on what I heard from the guys on the warhammer forge stand and they said there would be some.
Expect pics tomorrow. He added:
Loki said something about wolf riders, hobgoblins on foot, Bull Centaurs and something that looked like a taurus. Hopefully this time tommorrow we will have some pics of concept art to discuss.
Still, Harry disclaims a separate Chaos Dwarf book and gives a rough sketch of what to come:
Nurgle only gets all the love initially ... with the first book.
They get something similar to an IA book but a series of books are planned. All centered around Chaos.
The Empire stuff are Marienburgers but sadly they are not set to be released as things stand.
There will not be a Chaos Dwarf book in the near future. That is not what this project is about.
No, there is not a full Marienburg army planned either.
DM wrote:Just on the book, I have had a quick leaf through and listened to Rick Preistly chatting the book is about a chaos invasion by a maurder clan and the chap leading it for whom the book is named after. This a takes place in an alternate timeline.
The theme is chaos and particularly nurgle, due for release in the middle of next year.
Or a bit sooner if everything goes to plan.

This is what it is all about.
(And I have been busting a gut to start talking about this for a while).
First you have Rick P. (for crying out loud) Planning this epic story spanning several volumes of the expansion of Choas. Initially this guy who spreads west through the lands of the Chaos Dwarves and the Ogre Kingdoms. Finally pitching up in the Empire.

Yes a Nurgle worshipping warlord.
My understanding is that the first book features the expansion of Nurgle into the West. This will be followed by the expansion of Tzeentch into the south, Slaanesh into the East and Khorne into the North.
I think we can only begin to imagine what happens when all four points of the Chaos star are in place.
I'm not sure anything quite this cool has ever happened to the hobby.
(...)
...why are the presenting a empire "upgrade" kitt as i think it was called if they are not planning on releasing it...?
Not sure. They made them but they have not been given the nod. Something about not wanting to start an army without plans/capacity to complete the whole Marienburger army.
I think Rick has a big list of models he wants making to go with the books and these are going to be the priority.
it does not mean they won'tdip randomly into other armies just to produce cool stuff but this will be the focus of their efforts and I don't think they have the time/capacity to get involved in whole armies YET! (CD or Empire).
(At least that is my understanding).
(...)
I think we get the first book in about six months time and then I guess the rest over the coming few years
(much like they have rolled out the AI books).
Hochdorf wrote:So... let me get this straight. There's going to be a series of books following four Chaos warlords, starting with this Tamur Khan fellow who is the one devoted to Nurgle? And each of them is going to be attacking a different area of the WH world, potentially meeting up at the end for some cataclysmic battle?
So it looks like Tamur Khan is going to be passing through the Ogre Kingdoms and the Chaos Dwarf realms on his way west from Central Asia (WH equivalent), and apparently he's gathering forces from both of these regions as he goes (hence Chaos Ogres and Chaos Dwarf weapons). In fact, his story may bear a slight resemblance to that of a certain historical Tamerlane... only more gribbly!
Well, if this is true, then it sounds like the most awesome thing ever.
Thats about the size of it .... except you forgot to mention the Hobgoblins and the Chaos Dwarf Centaurs.
(No idea if these will be made but they were there in the art work).
Hochdorf wrote:Harry: That does indeed sound absolutely amazing. If there are Hobgoblins then so much the better. I LOVE HOBGOBLINS. This is all really good news. Do you by any chance know if the Chaos Dwarf Centaurs resemble the Bull Centaurs of old?
In so much as they had four legs and two arms but that is where the similarity ended. The art work was very tasty. No idea if the models are on the way or how close they will get to the art work.
DM wrote:On the Empire upgrade kit, I did hear Rick P say that the sculptor did them as a learning project when they joined.
CMDante wrote:I spoke with Rick at length about the warhammer forge stuff. He told me the following:
- the Empire kits on display were largely done as tests (except the Demi griffon guy and the land ship), the ones on show likely wo t be produced (the fits weren't tight enough) but they will likely re-work them and then release.
They can't start making FW versions of regular infantry units as that treads on the studios toes, so they intend to do upgrade kits to get around this.
- the warhammer books are likely to follow the same template as AI books - a storyline, characters, army lists, special rules and figures to go with.

- I saw Ostermark mentioned on one page before Rick flipped through to show me more of the design elements.
- the dragon is likely to get riders (Empire one was defo mentioned).
sparks wrote:Like CMDante and Harry, I had a 20 minute chat with Rick about the book. He clearly seems full of enthusiasm for it and kept on bemoaning the sales people. It seems like a real labour of love and it's only been the last 6-12 months where they've had sufficient people to produce for it. Rick has actually scaled out the WFB map in his own way to plan out how long it would actually take an army to march, etc (mental).
Tamur has taken the form of an Ogre as he takes on the form of whatever he kills (according to Rick). Otherwise he is just a big maggot or a lot of small maggots which are release when he is wounded. Rick said that CD are definitely not an army list, and I guess I should've looked harder at the artwork as I had the impression it would be warmachines and crew only?
He also said there are plans for a mammoth with ogres on it (or equivalent) and in one of the seminars they promised lots of big plastic monsters for next year. The rules/scenarios are not written for the first book apparently. Rick wants to playtest a 24' x 12' board and no one will let him have the space (or something equally ludicrous). Lots of stunning detail, narrative and he expects it to go on for at least the next 6 years or so, with around 2 books a year if all goes to plan. He also mentioned normal dwarves for book 2! (I kept pressing as a dwarf player. I was mainly confused as there was no dwarf involvement despite this fella seemingly marching over the world's edge mountains to get to the Empire!)
All in all, rather excited about the project. Rick basically wants to muck around with the timeline and advance it in these books (he hates the sales driven campaigns and wants to leave the Empire in a complete state of disrepair). The first book either starts or ends with
.He also said the first book ends on a cliffhanger so that he can move onto the stories of the other 3 powers if he chooses to. All in all, top bloke and made me very excited about the project. Reminded me very much of Terry Pratchett as well!

There are no plans to produce any Chaos Dwarf 'grunts' so to speak at this moment in time.
Artwork for Hobgoblins, Bull Centaurs, and Tauros are done. And if the art is anything to go by, yes, you will want a Tauros.
 for doing Bighats!
If the Warhammer Forge matches the 40K Forgeworld business plan, then there WILL be a Chaos Dwarf list at some time down the line. "At this time" is a typical unspecific term for GW. It means "if it sells well, then we'll make the army'. DKoK came first, then the rules. Don't see this being any different.

I agree with Crippler on this, chances are with all the popularity the CD models so far have been getting there will be quite a bit of sales and when WF sees that their popular the other models (like infantry CDs) will be made along with full rules

Yeah. There's a brief mention of them in the new 8th edition rulebook. Specifically "...the Knights of the Vengeful Sun have several units of highly-trained Demigryph riders trained and ready for battle". There's also mention in the sentence before that one of Kislevite cavalrymen who ride armored warbears into battle, so maybe they're in the pipeline as well.

Some new tidbit:
AndrewGPaul from Warseer wrote:When I asked Rick Priestley about the scale of the Chaos incursions the books will cover, his replay was "they're the story of how Chaos destroys the world". Without reading the full tet, take that as you will. He also mentioned that they'll cover the main races; this first book will be Nurgle vs the Empire since it was in his words "the easiest to write", and subsequent ones will be something along the lines of Tzeentch vs the Elves, Khorne vs the Dwarfs and Slaanesh vs Lizardmen, something like that.
I was told that the Chaos Dwarfs would be the artillery and engineering corps of the Chaos forces, rather than a full army of their own - the landtrain-style warmachines would be the main focus of that race. As for the initial range, some of the models - like Trish's "Carmine Dragon" - are basically in there to bulk out the ranga, rather than being part of the story. No idea when the book's out - the proper production will start in November, and they've got to fit it into Forgeworld's publishing schedule around the Imperial Armour books. From what Rick said, don't expect it before Imperial Armour 9 at the earliest.
cornonthecob from Warseer wrote:I asked rick priestly about the book and models
He said that the book is about four chaos invasions on the empire, the first is nurgle.
The main guy in this book is a nurgle ogre ( possibly a human) riding the toad dragon
The chaos dwarfs will be only sold with the warmachines , I asked about possibly selling the crew seperatley and they said that it would annoy the sculpters who worked on them to have them be converted into chaos dwarf warriors
The book will go forward in the timeline , because it's forgeworld it's not exactly canon .
That demi-gryph rider is the emperors new champion

apparently the books are heavilly inspired by the realms of chaos books, although rick priestly isn't lead writer he has had a big inflence on them. expect loads of wierd and characterful stuff for all the forces involved.
they will also release random stuff for other races as they 'sometimea have ideas that are too cool to pass up'
a prime example is the vermin lord that mark bedford has been making. it is a sculpt for his own skaven collection but he wants to show it to tony cottrell and thinks the chances are high that it will see release

Well, the basic explanation was that they don't want to release it until they have a "full line" of Marienburg stuff to release all at once. I don't know if Marienburg is going to be involved with the whole Nurgle bit, seeing as how they're pretty "meh" about the Empire proper.

Marienburg or not, that upgrade kit looks fantastic. Though, with 8th's emphasis on large blocks, and FW stuff costing a pretty penny, I don't think it'll see too much use.
And they've shown tons of things at GD's without releasing it. Remember those Tau from a while back? Still yet to be released...

My understanding of what was said is that the empire upgrade models on show themselves will never be for sale... however this is is because they are being remodelled to be improved. So from their point of view this probably meant they could tell people those models were not being released, because they aren't.
Simples.

They want to have a full line of Marienburg stuff to sell all at once, not just one or two things not connected with anything at all.
Frankly, I could see the Marienburg stuff releasing alongside the Tzeentch v. High Elf book that was mentioned.

Nice summary with lots of information I have missed so far. I added your summary to the first post of this thread.
So Warhammer Forge will not release a complete Chaos Dwarf army, but just
Lord on Great Taurus
CD Sorcerer
Chaos Dwarfs with Great Weapons (possibly also with halberds??)
CD blunderbussers with command
Bull Centaurs
Hobgoblins on foot and on wolves
CD engineers with lots of cannons and siege weapons
all with rules, background and point costs?
I think I can live with that
BTW, here some further tidbits by Harry:
I am pretty sure their are some warriors coming to go with that Nurgle command.
Also I hear whispers of both Nurgle Knights and Empire Knights.
I got the impression that another Nurgle Troll and Ogre to make up the set of three were a bit of a certainty.
and a BIG land ship ... big enough to have a house on it as seen in the artwork might to be on the cards.
Also I got the impression if we made enough fuss about Festus and some of the other bits and bobs ... there was a chance.
There was also a stunning Nurgle model ... some sort of ridden beast next to the Demi Griffon I can't see in your list.
I think they take a particular route to Altdorf so I am not sure they plan on doing something specific for every province.

There is no reason that the DKoK could not be made in metal, and they could be made cheaper. The retail price would doubtlessly remain the same.
Resin is a great material for some things, but I do not think that infantry or upgrades are on that list. Too expensive to produce, too fragile, and (depending on the resin) too short lived.

Harry thinks the first book gets as far as the siege of Altdorf.
Storyline
The first book either starts or ends with Karl Franz presumed dead along with all or most of the counts. Esme Stoutheart the Halfling becomes the emperor, this lasts for a short while. Karl Franz son was kidnapped by orcs and sold to chaos slavers, he's a dark sorcerer.

I'm just wondering now where the races not mentioned will fit in:
Tomb Kings
Vampire Counts
Wood Elves (Possibly in the Slannesh one somehow)
Bretonnia
Skaven
And all the other human kingdoms (Araby, Nippon, Albion, Ind, the Amazons etc)

Guess they can't cover ALL 13 current armies "and all the other human kingdoms (Araby, Nippon, Albion, Ind, the Amazons etc)" in the first two years with their small team.

Remember we're looking at a 5-6 year project here. So I know it's not ideal, but it could be a long time before certain armies get something from them.

I should have been more precise, I just wanted to know if we had something more accurate.

I love all the new models that were shown and are planned, but what excites me the most is that Warhammer Forge is given the go-ahead to expand the story. After so many years of the same characters and stories, it'll be refreshing to see some "progress" in the Warhammer World. Even though its primary focus is chaos, I'm glad we'll see new protagonists and such.
I hope that after Chaos gets its time in the sun, that other "Doomsday" or endgame scenarios for the Warhammer World are told, ie Nagash finally getting up and out of Nagashizzar to finish what he started, the Skaven finally uniting and attacking the surface dwellers, the final Waaagh!, Dwarves reclaiming their empire etc. etc. So many possibilities for great fiction and even greater models!
Good times for WHFB!

I hope that the books will at least provide a way to play CD alone. I know it's just supposed to be a "support" thing for current armies according to most posts, but I'd really like to see CD stand-alone, or at least have enough to bastard-brew and create one for friendly games, haha,
