Here is my first batch of Deathwing.

The 5 Terminators here all were stripped of an old (awful and thick) paintjob so they are a bit rough.
I think I've learned a lot painting them however and I'm glad I put the effort into reviving them.

The Dreadnought and everything else I've got W.I.P right now are all new.

I'm also working on a second squad with Thunder Hammers and a Cyclone Missile Launcher, Belial, a Terminator Chaplain, Apothecary and Standard Bearer at the moment.

Very nice, love the dread I don't think I have seen a Deathwing dread like that before but it looks amazing.

VERY COOL.the plasma weapon on the dread is sick,you have done a really good job on all the models imo but i think you need to break up the chest area on the dread with some other colour,it looks a little sparse.

I can't post a full on picture tutorial atm but the main things:

Bone armour:

dheneb stone
gryphonne sephia wash, twice* (not 2 layers, once the right way up and once upside down to get areas you missed)
carefully drybrush dheneb stone
wash sephia back in recesses if drybrush got in there

*this was more important for the dreadnought than the terminators

Skin:

tallarn flesh
liche purple wash, 5-6 parts water to paint*
tallarn flesh again
elf flesh
bleached bone

Yeah I agree, the panels I chose for the centre peice don't offer a lot.

Maybe paint inside the pillars Red This has nothing to do with my slight obsession with the BA's but it would work well as a spot colour as you've already used it on the Terms!

Oh yeah, and they do look amazing! Rest assured I will be stealing your skin method and if I ever do more DA's I shall use (steal) your armour method! Keep up the great work!

The first Deathwing Termie is my favourite, its actually stunningly awesome.

Looks awesome! Especially like the hood.

The face under the hood looks fantastic. Great shading!

Nope, dont have a setup for that but I took some WIP shots as I painted my Apothecary:

Amazing. I've been looking for a good tutorial on that armor, and you sir have nailed it IMO!

These look very nice. I feel like their bone white armor could look even better if you picked out some of the edges with a thin highlight (similar to the way the green of the dreadnought's gun looks).

Great work.I have always loved the Deathwing and these minis are really good,especially the Dread.

Just a small update:

Wasn't 100% satisfied with my Apothecary so I added more white elements to him. Unforunately my photo set up means white reflects something awful but I added a different light sample to try show the real colour.

It's Omnio from Space Hulk. I just didnt use his storm bolter right arm, and cut a section out of his left arm to fit the lightning claws. Also there's the end of a teleport beacon on his back for his search light thingo

Short story: 10 year old Land Raider, painted green with bone panels.
Plastic glued on DA extras when they were first released ages ago. Wanted to swap one or two but couldn't.
Paint was very think so I attempted to strip back with nail polish remover, wasn’t a perfect result so I did a bit of mud and scratches to make it look deliberate.

Pleased with the outcome considering what it once was!

Fantastic. Wish I had the time/patience to produce models like this. Most of my friends don't paint their models at all, so my slightly above table quality models stand out at the local level, but not like these.

Is that tech marine holding the auspex backwards? Looks hard to read

I am very impressed with your ability! I started out as a DA player and puled out some of my old deathwing and wow, you make mine look pathetic. They look like the kid who grabbed the $2 clearance costume for halloween and tried to pass himself off as a deathwing termie!

Just two (very minor) comments

1) Some of the mold lines could do with some cleaning up before painting (for example the chaplains leg).

2) It might be the camera but it looks like some of the paint might have been a bit to thick and could possibly do with a bit of thinning, or a smother brush stroke? Its a difficult to tell if it is brush strokes in the paint or just where your cammera is having problems with the white.

Other than that very nice. Did you make the bases? Its something I have never been good at and am always looking for ideas.

Personally I quite like the green robed angel of death with white wings and a gold or red halo, black shield (pre heresy colour and gold trim.

Ok here's my last ditch effort before totally repainting his shield. I think having it coloured is just too outlandish and cartoonish for him.

Anyway I kind of like it:

Well done on the bone white armours.
I love the warm feeling you captured.
The gold parts are something I think you could improve abit. they are fine as they are, but looking at your skills I think you can do better.
Base with black, add tin bits then finally gold.

I myself paint white models, and use gryphon sepia as a wash too. though I mix it with matt varnish to lower the wash viscosity. This gives a slight blending effect.

Bought this on impulse the day it was released... despite collecting Dark Angels.
Finally got around to doing something with it.
Of all the companies that could potentially field a Stormraven I thought Ravenwing seemed the most appropriate.

Was fun to paint and model!

That bone colour is a bit weird, but I kind of like it.

I like the Scibor mini for Belial it works really well. I also think the shield with the black robed skeleton angel looks best, if you did a DARK green robe then I would prefer that but the greens you have as an example are just way too bright imo.

Your Ravenwing SR has inspired me to finally pick up another SR and make it for my SW. Yes, I know I can't use it in anything but Apocalypse games but I luckily enjoy the occasional Apoc game plus it will look awesome I think.

Great work overall, I look forward to seeing more, especially since the only DW armies I see in my area are not painted as DW nor do they use DA successor or DA iconography

I like the shield as the original. It looks like it's sculpted on there, and gives a nice "rock face" shield feel to it, rather than a painted heraldic shield.

The Stormraven looks Great! A very smooth clean job there!

Very nice. It's funny I have played DA for 18+ years and just last night dug them out and dusted them off. Did a few repairs and now have my Deathwing and Ravenwing set up for battle. Still disappointed that our dex is sooooooo out dated now but I guess I will press on with them anyhow.

In a game it would have to be something boring like terminators or assault marines.

But in my head i like to think it transports Sammael, his jetbike, his command squad and their bikes.

Agreed on the Sammael in the stormraven. After I read the entry in the codex where he jumped it out of a thunderhawk I've been wanting to do the same thing with the stormraven, especially with the flat out deep strike rules.

Ok. I'll bite.

Painting-wise? They are rather splendid. That sort of muted bone works really well, your highlighting on the greens is nice and crisp and the lenses are most impressive.

What lets this all down?

Mold lines. Particularly around the Terminator legs and the tops of their arms. It's a very minor detail but it's worth pointing out.

Your Dark Angels look good and too point out something that small is just crazy.
Keep up the great work.

You've got enough done now, that I think a group shot would look really cool.

Like I said, it's the one small detail. Overall not too much but it can sadly be the make or break of painting competitions, best painted army etc. and that'd be a damn shame.

maaaad painiting skills

Going to be starting a Death Korps of Krieg army for the new year.

Getting sick of painted Dark Angels counts as another Codex marines!

Since I actually have a 1500 and 1850 list already written I want to build and paint this army ASAP for use in tournaments in 2012.
There are roughly 60 guardsmen to paint so I needed a quick method to pump them out.

I'm normally super slow / unmotivated when it comes to painting so I want this army to be different!!
(In all of 2011 i painted 11 terminators & a land raider lol)

I saw this colour scheme used on another forum and loved it. So naturally I'm going to steal it for my own army.
There is red on the left collar which you can't see from this angle too.

Personally, I've always been an Orky... 'bout 15k pts.
But I started an Angels of Absolution force about a year ago... up to 3k.
Added a Dark Eldar anti-tank contingent to my Ap-Ork-alypse force... roughly 1,400.

And now, I want to do a Krieg force.

I like the metal finish of the dread most. I am actually putting together a DW army as well, however I am painting them in IF colors to match my IF army, but Belial will be painted up in the Deathwing bone white, it will be like he is on a training mission or something with the IF's

No new content yet but I'm going to be taking a trip to my brother in-laws garage to have an airbrush session on the tanks soon so that's coming up.

Anyway this is more of a photography acheivement, spent ages messing with my crappy cameras settings, a background etc and came up with this:

My first complete tank for my Krieg army. This was also the first time I've ever used oil paints and weathering powders. I really like both and can't wait to get more practice with them.
