Just after reading Soul Hunter and listning to Throne of Lies (The latter was in hospital after having 3 wisdom teeth out.)

I droped Iron Warriors for Night Lords, Well before the VAT rise of 2.5 percent I ordered a nice resin kit from FW that had gaps as big as the Watford Gap.

and asked a friend to teach me to fill them.

This is what I have done so far apologies for blury picts.

I'm in - but you must get better pics - I find having a background and a place to rest the camera helps - find the macro setting and get plenty of light on the subject, Dont put the camera too close to the subject - you can always crop the photo later - that said the photos of the tank are great - I love its enormous gatling style gun

Squad leader has liberated SW legs, the Eagle armour top, a liberated power sword and an Inferno pistol.

havoc leader has Hand flamer with power fist.

next guy has a melta gun and plasma gun in that order.

i lkie the lightning signs... do they function as camo/signs or rather real cracking energy?

i definatly recommend making pics in the daylight... not too sunny as this will do also lots of bad pics... been there done that ...and also if the pics tend to be too blurry and you try already real hard to get them steady but to no avail... try the timer setting with your cam... lots of blurry pics happen when you pull the trigger... then you pull/push the cam in that motion and you get bad results... i have used the timer on some ocaisions and got quite a lot better results that way...

Star Trek VI its from.

Chaos Space Marines look like fun to paint. I just wish they had a different Codex. I just finished reading Blood Gorgons and enjoyed it. Made me think about painting a few models for that chapter. Then I read the CSM Codex again and changed my mind.

In addition to the good suggestions already made about taking pics of minis, avoid using the zoom on your camera. Snap the photo in Macro with good lighting (daylight or natural type bulb lighting) with no flash and without using zoom. The picture is usually much cleaner. I follow these simple rules and my photos are quite clear. I don't even use a tripod or timer. My camera is decent but not exciting.

Finally. A WIP about my favorite Chaos Legion. I will follow this with interest, though you've gotta see about those pics.

Im using the BA codex ... and yes a looted Flying brick aka Stormraven gunship.

Almost forgot my mug that holds tea and helps give insperation.

these look cool , i was thinking of making my CSM night lords as well , their fluff is pretty cool , but the idea of creatig lighting was a bit scary. But i guess thats why it works for them , being scary and all that.

Yep it heats the water and the radiators.

The lightning was done with a 00 brush using vallejo's Sky Blue then Monoth White highlight.

Might prime some of my spartan stuff today Dystopian Wars Federated States or Blazing Sun, just waiting for Wayland games to get the Blazing Sun Carrier in from Shepton Mallet.

Some of that Dystopian Wars stuff looks pretty cool, bits keep catching my eye.

Radiators? Luxury! I have a gas fire in the lounge and an electric heater in the workroom(was the main bedroom). Plus a couple of dodgy heating panels in the ceiling. Means I have to keep all the doors open if I want heat.

Always did like the nightlords, not a huge fan of the old helmets for them though but the idea of living lightning cascading about their armor puts pictures of night assaults the defenders ansiously looking out over the defenses as a storm seems to brew on the horizon dust kicking up as they draw closer the horror at the realisation that it's not a storm but the nightlords.

I'd kind of assumed the crosses would be raised as opposed to just marked out (hadn't really given much attention to the model when it was released). That does make it a more interesting option for conversions - it can be a right pain cutting/filing down raised details sometimes.

So weapons for the arms...... Storm Bolter + Flamer, Flamer + Melta gun or Storm Bolter + Melta gun??????

Flamer + storm bolter to give it some troop mowing ability before the assault just in case the two big fists were not enough
to seal the deal on thier own (as if).

This will multi role the dread, good punch Vs Tanks but also able to take down larger units that would otherwise tie him up for two turns in CC.
he gets to mow few down before the slaughter begins.

And as everyone knows if you take the "S" of slaughter you get laughter which normally comes with "fun" so for a chaos army slaughter is just perfect.
(wierd warp logic there but it works just ask the harlequin god of laughter poor guy slaneesh to his "S" away).

Anyway enough out of me on with the show, let see more of that dread he's looking mean as can be! Great job so far!!!

I have cast the first test of the second pad and found my air duct wasn't as ducty as I thought and I have to cut a new one in the mold and redo probably tomorrow, but what did come out looks
excellent.

I will start the sculpt of the common marine pad this week and have soemthing to show hopefully by the weekend. If I get bored I'll do a Terminator one as well, just for the heck of it.

That said I amcompletely out of pinkysil now (having also just made the mold for my skave guns) so I may not beable to cast the new pads for a week or so).

Well the legion are almost done I'll be finishing the second tac squad this week, and the terminators will go into full swing next week along wiht some new casting supplies for thier shoulders, should be done with them early May. That is of course if I don't get caught in a conversion tornado and end up with three dreadnaughts and a un-needed amount of extras... cough... like I'd

The Skave are halted for pinkysil once I get more I can make enough guns to fit out the troops and begin working on the transports and Screaming bell.
Most of it is on display at various stores atm so I can't even play a game with them lol. Worst thing is the entire army will need to be repainted, the paint jobs on them was only to get them play worthy in time for a game with Da Dark Angelz and a small store campaign, so I need to go back and finish off all the paint jobs on the troops.

Blood Reaver The Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness , Ordered the books yesterday

Torn between Mk 4 and Mk 5 armour for the tactical squads but dont want to loose the speed from using a heavy weapon.

My favorites are the Mk III, and Mk IV is a close second, but the Mk V look too bumpy to me. But I have seen some great models with the Mk V, so I guess it's all in application.

and the lightning bolts are going to be fun.

I've given some lighting effect a try on some power weapons...not looking good, I need more practice!

Cool! Not sure what my brush sizes are, I have Army Painter brushes, and they just "Detail" "Precise Detail" and "Insane Detail". But I think it's mostly my technique that makes a mess of it...

I'm loving that custom Night Lords shoulder pad you did!
My wife keeps telling me I need to greenstuff bat wings on to my Night Lords, but I just don't know how to do them and have them turn out good. A skill you've obviously mastered.

Also good to see I'm not the only one using the Blood Angels codex for a Night Lords army. It really does suit them way better than anything you can find in the *actual* Chaos Codex, well, this at least in this sad version of the Codex.

I got 4 teleporter backpacks in the post this morning and ordered 6 more today fafter finding some in another bitz place.

also primed my Sons of Medusa Master of the Forge today after a 4 hour stripping him yesterday.

A friend said try Simple Green but at £18 inc postage I might give it a try later.

What do these teleporter backpacks look like?

I'm intrigued now as they sound very interesting.

Fairy Power Spray.

I've used it on metals and plastics with acrylics and enamels. Spray, leave for 10 minutes, scrub with a toothbrush (preferably an old one, or someone else's), rinse. On a couple of old, multiple enamel layered guys I needed to do a second go to get it all off.

I tend to do MY libbies the same colour as the chapter so they dont get picked off, just 'cuse GW has the libbies blue where does it say the have to be blue?

I like Techies and libbies who are the same base colour as their brothers, with standout colours to mark them, although I also like red techies

These guys are done in enamels, about 20 years ago. Sprayed, then left for about 20 mins, maybe half-an-hour, forgot they were there. A scrub with a toothbrush and...



Not perfect, but I could have put a bit more effort into scrubbing, and it is 20 year old enamel Give it a day or so and the remaining paint should peel away easily with a dental tool/tip of a knife. Or could get another spray and scrub.

will you be using washes on those guys? the red could use a bit of help i think to pop some more. also the upper part of the backpack... there is one SM that has also iceblue (?) in the three deepening above the small skull... i am not so sure about the color there...black as like the otrhers looks more fitting there...(by the way to the last pic i am referring....)


as for too much different colors in a chapter....if i ever come to finish some charcter models of my SM chapter i will refrain from the typical red/green and blue and also black for my chappy/tech and libby...i even had not done my apothecarious done in white...as i think any good and trying to be helpful medic doesn´t want to stand out in a crowd so much that he could be easily picked out...so he is just a tad fairer in color than my standard marines...i try to make these psecials just a tad stronger in color or lesser in color to make them look somewhat off the chart...

I wanted to post some picts, the wash not sure the other 6 packs arrived this morning, as for the red what do you think?

I put tin bitz on the edges of the poldrons.

i would give the red batwings a wash of baal red at least...the dark blue i think works as is. and of course i would add a wash of badabblack or even devlan mud to the weapons...for now the silver looks very silvery^^

If I might make a suggestion with regard to the red, I think a very light purple wash will really bring out the brightness of it.

Try a blue wash to tone down the reds, it might then help it tie in with the armour, also it has something to do with the colour wheel thingy.

I tried it on my FW dreads banner and it came out much better than using black.

OK I want to bounce around some Ideas for a Night Lords Thor.

Power Armoured or TDA?

Good so he gave you some non-spiky chaos kneepads then? lol only teasing.
I like your idea of doing a Thor style model. In my minds eye, Thor isnt really chunky in an armoured way, I would say SM armour, maybe Sanguinary Guard torso for musculature and use Death Company Thunder hammer, but lop off the Hammer head and go for something chunky like a Coteaz hammer Dwarf Hammers or something bigger.
Scibor do nice helms, either use maruader or catachan arms if you wanna go bare armed, and Warriors of Chaos or GS yourself a nice cloak. The NightLords pads would look really sweet too, the red and dark colours would look ace.

Third of all, Great plog, I can't wait to see more. You painting looks nice and clean especially the lightening bolts. Just please don't use the bat-heads. That was the worst idea GW ever came up with. I agree with Aaron when he says they should never be spoken of again.


Bat Shoulder pads = great idea
Bat helmets = me on telling how bad they are.

First thanks, and im just going to use the pouches (thats in the first book) I might just cut off the bats bits for the helms.

Since I dont have a Sons of Medusa blog here, here are 2 minis I did the other week and day while waiting on parts.

Very nice

My tips would be,
Wash your metals in badab black or devlum mud or asuryman blue to give them some depth
Your eye colour is a little too bright and is contrasting badly with the helms. You want a darker green (but not too dark or you'll be lost in the helmet)
If you feel confident look up a few guides about how to paint the lenses on space marine helmets. Tho its detailed work your get good with practice. (You basically start very dark at the back of the lense work up to a lighter colour near the front them put a white dot on the dark part)

other than that, keep up the good work, looking swish!

I have been using badab black on the metals, lenses have never been my strong point.

very good detailwork on the aphothecarian shoulderpad.looks very crisp the white and the red. but i do wonder why you used the mecharius arm for the apothecarius... does he have to work with some more heavy clad SM?^^
by the way, how did you prime the models? black or white? if the former...good work getting the colors so bright!

Grrr freaking post office!!!!!

the libby´s legarmor done in blue is a very good idea, i am not so sold on his blue hand...he looks as if he wears a rubber glove instead...
using the techmarinearm for a medic is a nice touch, the white is very crisp! i like that very much! is he done already or will he see a washbath?^^ are those medic tools from the plastic command sprue or did you do them yourself? i have some old medics only and they look completly ifferent so i am on guessing ground here...

Having now read through this I must say I like - interesting use of the GK teleporter packs and perfectly valid justification for the Achilles Land Raider - besides, Apoc rules states Chaos can always use Imperial.

It has been pretty rainy here recently too damp for priming, maybe Miss Dee has been having the same problem she isnt too far from me.

is this really such an issue? i always have to prime in my cellar and it is damp there all year...never had that much issues with priming tho...

I have definitely ruined models priming in bad weather, it doesnt happen all the time but when it does its a major pain

that as much is understandable...priming is a very bad way to ruin a model...i have yet to come across a means to get rid of primer myself...
