The Roleplay Planning Thread @ 2011/03/20 14:45:09

Post by: Darkvoidof40k

If you are only interested in roleplays using the multiple choice/options format, then read no more. This does not concern you for I consider your roleplayes to be sub-par to proper roleplays that are written out in large posts by the players, offering everyone more freedom to express their creativity within the story.

Now, I have not failed to notice that ever since I joined Dakka and started posting up roleplays left, right, front and centre, dozens more have sprung up. While at first, I did indeed consider this to be a good, and rather amusing thing. But the fact is, there are far too many roleplays and not enough roleplayers in my opinion. I've seen far too many good roleplays die prematurely simply due to the fact that the players and GMs have gotten involved in too many other roleplays, and therefore the latest will get more attention as it's new and, in a way, perhaps more interesting.

So, that is why I have created this thread. Obviously, I cannot stop anyone from posting as many roleplay threads as they like, but I simply ask that if you have a roleplay idea, post it here, and with a bit of trust from each other, we can create a sort of "waiting system". As in, we wait until a few roleplays die off before starting any more. This way, there will be more players free to play on RP threads for longer.

Hey, you stole my idea.

But yes, there are far to few rp-ers here on dakka dakka to "feed" a great deal of roleplays.

A waiting system is great, but like you said you can't control other people.

And to be frank a few more text rp-ers would be great.

Aahh, no worries. I may pick up on RPG's in two or three months time, or something. I'm currently in a state of...well... a bad mental state, so to speak.

I agree with Darko,at least partially ...If any single text based RP is going to have the potential to really grow than it's for the best not to have several of them all going at once.

However...I also see a problem with "Band wagon" players, those who jump into RPs and post for a page or two, then cease posting ,leaving plot holes where there characters were and loads of loose ends for GMs to tie up..

Add to this the random " Bang bang bang" players ,who seem more interested in RPing random shoot outs for the sake of "action" with little effort put into the narative of the RP itself...

I suppose I myself am guilty of flooding the RP market by launching the "Blood Moon" RP when I did...but the idea was there ...though the timing may have been off..
...I did try to compensate by posting an "interest" thread first.

Glen Danzig you say? I found this image by searching for images of Michale Graves. The other singer after Danzig... Though I may be wrong, because I'm not that familiar with that period in music history......

@Chowder: ha, yeah I prefer this one over my other. I have a big file in my documents full of possible avatars for forums.

Pretty sure that the image you have is in fact Graves, however he basiclly emulated the make up style that Glenn "created" years before...
If you check out any of the Danzig era Misfits photos (late 70's /early 80's) Glenn did a much the same sort of "skull face" from time to time...

No,he didn't...it was more of an "on occasion" thing, during that era Doyle (guitar) and Only (Bass) were the only two members who consitantly wore any sort of "stage make up"...
After Danzig split from the band and they later reformed with Graves (after a long legal battle with Danzig) the Makeup became more prevalent .

Guys, I know I'm being the biggest hypocrite ever but.. take it to PM maybe?

Edit: Also, recently I've been considering the idea of a Space Hulk roleplay.. as in, everybody gets a look in and you have multiple choices: Try and survive, cower in a corner with a pee stain down your trousers or go on a killing spree/martyrdom attempt. Naturally, I'd be the GM, just to ruin your day a lil' bit each time you came home from work/school/elsewhere.

Hmm...maybe I'll start an RP based on the Misfits Legal entanglements..Courtroom drama...sleazy lawyers ...it'll be a blast..

...Seriously though, While I clearly take "responsibility" for launching the Blood Moon RP (which most of those involved seem to be enjoying),I never abandoned any RP I was involved in,much to the contrary...I attempted to keep them going long after most of the players or even GMs had "stepped out".

I just started a cinematic/novel-style RPG in the vein of two ulta-successful ones I ran a year or two ago. I'm stalling the story a little bit to give Emperors Faithful and whoever else may want to join a chance to get in on the action. The setting is pre-Heresy, I've just melta'd some rebels, and now I'm waiting for some people to help me storm an observation post.

Going to be running a sequel to Lazarus very shortly. I'll need some new blood. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Lazarus has the most player deaths out of any other RP on Dakka, (around eight, I believe). Check my sig to see the current Lazarus, and post your ideas and suggestions for the sequel here. I also have an alternate Horus Heresy thread that I recently euthanized due to excess silliness. I'm planning on starting it back up after I finish off Lazarus. I also have a fantasy roleplay by the name of Uriah (also in my sig), which is on hiatus until I ca find another to run it. It's one of those threads were I'd rather play in, rather than run. So I'm currently looking for a replacement to run it.

actually, Hulk has amassed 11 players, and RZ&LWC had at least 12 or more.

Just find one of my more successful roleplays (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/324418.page or perhaps http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/304483.page) and copy the general format.. but obviously change it for your story.

It's cos you end up having to give it your all, all the time. It's especially un-rewarding when people then react very little to your extensive hard work. This tends to lead to GMs then skipping out doing stuff, and procrastinating, causing the players to feel unloved.

What about an RP where everyone plays as a patron god of various nation-states and uses the nation-states to fight each other. Each day cycle the players will decide what they want to do(build forces, defend, etc) and the DM will see what happens. Their would need to be a map with names on it similar to a risk board.

Alright, here's my teaser for my upcoming RP, Drowning in Darkness-
I know a secret. When I wake up, I see things you should never see when you're awake, but when I close my eyes, they're always waiting for me. I sleep whenever I can, my nightmares are often better than my reality. When I wake up, the nightmare is still there, mocking me. Twisting and warping, it...it wears their faces. It laughs at me, telling me my failings, that I'm not strong enough to stop it, that one day soon, it will become a part of me, and me of it. That thing, the Nightmare, it told me the secret. Something so terrible, that I...I can't remember it, no matter how hard I try. When I try to remember, all I hear are names; Emilie, Scott, Rachel, Gaz, James, Nick, Dez... I think one of them is mine, but I don't know which. I see things, too. Creatures wearing their faces, merging together, creating the Nightmare. And singing, always singing, and telling me to sing their songs. Part of me wants to join them, to leave this empty existence behind, and become a part of something greater. But then I look further, and I can hear them screaming. The faces, they're in pain. They don't want to sing the songs, but the Nightmare makes them. The faces, they want me to free them somehow, but the Nightmare won't let me. When I'm awake, I can still hear them screaming. I don't know what day it is, or even the year, hell, I don't even know who I am. Maybe I'm one of the faces, screaming endlessly in pain as I am forced to sing a song the Nightmare taught me. The only thing I know is that I'm drowning. Drowning in darkness.

There's too many roleplays going already (10 or something stupid?) - just wait for some to die, and until then, join some of the active ones. Like Space Hulk.. hint hint..

I wouldn't mind joining an RP if there's a space.

A requirement for all late-joiners of my roleplays is that they read the whole thread.

But watch out for pages 20-25, lots of off-topic. Fun off-topic though.

And your signature; you have a quote taken from a fantasy anime.

Yep, but as my Inquisitor is hunting C'tan, i though it was appropriate.

The one about the cursed dude and the talking animal-gods. A quick search around my house and I could probably find it.

I had a skim read over it earlier, it's WWII with psychic powers and better tech, presented a la Lazarus style.

But you too are welcome to venture aboard the Space Hulk. Fresh meat is always welcome.. *licks lips*

---engage mobile universal translator--

I tried to run a warhammer 40k RPG on another fourum but I seemed to be the only one who understood all of the rites that the imperial guard and space marines use.

I also tried to do a tyranids vs eldar Rp with one of my friends that was posted on my deviant art page.

--translator disengaged--

Interesting, like to the elder one please?

hehehehehehe.... cuntent.

People won't get so aggressive towards you provided you use the basics. People don't care about if you misspell the occasional word (Me buddy Fitzz spells rifle, riffle, but no one calls him out on it) unless they're Darko, but he's only trying to help. All you need to do, is punctuate at the right places, and use capital letters, and I'm sure you'd be clean sailing. The link you gave isn't bad by any stretch, you just need to, y'know, get the basics down.

Yup, that's right folks! Learn your basic grammar, then I won't have to kill you! Everybody wins!

See if I were confrontational, I'd decided to be a combination of an internets tough guy, and TFG by saying, with needless extras:

*In a gruff voice that sounds like I've just drunk battery acid*

"I'd like to see you try"

*Flexes watermelon sized muscles*

But I've grown to dislike people posting that kinda thing, it derails a thread faster than you can say train crash, and generally annoys me! Almost as much as making a deal of starting a new page.

I'm the patron saint of those things.. especially considering I'm the epitome of the first and the creator of the second.

With each bit of maturity gained, something irreplaceable is lost.

If you want to join a roleplay, then have a look for one you like and then just go ahead and join it. This isn't a recruitment thread, it's a discussion thread that failed anyway.

There seems to be some interest in jump starting Sillyboy's " Do you want to play a game.." RP.

I'd like to toss out the idea that upon completion of some of our current RP's ...we make this a top priority...

The RP itself was very interesting and I really enjoyed the entire concept behind it...I believe it's one that's worth trying to pull off the "scrap heap".

hmm...I seem not to have noticed this thread before. I can say that for the record I am putting my SW/40k crossover RP on hold/letting a player GM. because three big new RPs will be going up soon, and while I know I will be in two. I will take a look at the third as well (unless some 20 players would just be too confusing.) And I don't plan on letting my tiny-hammer RP die, so I will have to keep track of THAT too.

Inter Astrum.. which I've more-or-less given up on. Looks like it'll be fun.. but too much to deal with on top of everything else. I'm about 12 pages behind now. In fact, I really haven't read any of the universe-creating-info so I have no idea what's going on in it. I might just back out.

What are the other two roleplays you mentioned? RZ&LWC will return soon, but I was not aware you were planning on joining?

Yep. Conquest: Nation Domination is a bigger success than I had hoped. And it's already in full swing, if a bit disorganized.

EDIT: Although, Zoat, I do have quite a bit of info to handle, so if you wanted to somehow Co-GM, that would be good.

When I said "word-based strategy RP', I meant Microsoft Word and other similiar Text Programs It would work by the players counts-as-ing their units to the basic shapes of the Program.
