Hmm I'd probably go with Vulkans spear. I mean seriously, a spear that cuts through metal like a knife through butter and has a huge flame thrower attached? Nice! Other than that maybe Straken's arm (S6, power weapon and an additional D6 against av in his friggin arm? yes please!) or a storm shield if we allow those as weapons, because getting shot at by tanks and guns alike without a scratch is just too good.
So many of the cool weapons would probably kill you...
Demon Weapons can rebel, plasma weapons can get a bit too hot...
that said a Lasgun would be a good choice. Don't have to worry about ammo like you do with a Bolter, or other similar weapon, so you could use it over and over again.
That said, if were given a 40K weapon- AND the ability to use it, I'd have to take an Eldar Singing Spear. Slices through tanks like they are made of paper and returns to your hand when thrown. Perfect.
Well I dunno whether this is allowed but for my first choice I would choose Freki and Geri, I would just walk around setting them on people for giggles.

I've never seen an Imperial Guardsman wield a Custodes Halberd, Angelus Boltgun or Glaive Encarmine, and very rarely will you see one wielding a Storm Bolter.
Plus a Gauss Fllayer is good at more than just killing people. There's a traffic jam? Just disitegrate the cars! Want to get into a bank vault? Vaporize the door! Feeling like the kool-aid man? Make that wall dissappear!
Either a power axe/sword because chopping wood old school is lame, or a Gauss flayer because you could just disintegrate garbage and stuff you don't want. No need to drive to the dump to dispose of an old bed. If cranked up enough, it could probably be used for landscaping as well.
Probably just a Lasrifle/Pistol. Being realistic - it's something a human could, you know, actually use. They have a rechargeable power source, since they don't use solid rounds like a Bolter. I could just patent it then and make a gakload of money from it.

Actually, it's considerably different, both in affects and also in flexibility. It has single-shot, semi-auto and full-auto settings, as well as power settings that range from burning a hole in power armor to just knocking someone over.
However, to ensure maximum destruction of those Pigeons you know you want to shoot, I advise over-charging your Lasgun.

Air rifles, slingshots and hand-thrown potatos are not exactly "standard weapons".
And the simple lasgun is as powerful as an assault rifle. or rather their version of one.
If ammo wasn't a concern I'd go with the classic storm bolter. Otherwise, Eldar or Tau plasma pistol. still don't need to reload, can be hidden, and will blast through just about anything the modern day world can throw at me.
There are so many to choose from, I mean, who wouldn't want a bolter for crying out loud! Yet in the hands of a human it would be so impracticable...in that case I must say the power sword is just so epic :p screw chain swords from mowing the lawn

It's stats. Not it's real life application. Autoguns are meant to represent assault rifles, 24" Str3 AP- Rapid Fire. Carbon copy stats of a lasgun. Also, many modern assault rifles have single shot, semi-auto and full-auto settings. As to the power settings, that's news to me. The information I'm going on only comes for 40K and Necromunda rulebooks.

Only because fluff writers don't know what a railgun is. There is no recoil to a 'railgun', there is no chemical propellant. It's all done with magnets. The magnets align and super propel a slug down a barrel. With no propellant, there are no escaping gases, and thus no recoil.
A railgun, if you could hold it, could be fired as fast as a mini gun and have no deviation outside what your natural breathing caused. They aren't .50 cal sniper rifles that shove you back 2 feet. Heck, you could fire them on the run with no problems (although by 40k, most guns should have a gas-blow back system like the M-16, which means basically no recoil, so...)
However, for that kind of electromagnetic energy, coming from such a compact vehicle, it makes sense that it only fires once. Maybe if they had a Superheavy tank with a single railgun, they could get away with making it heavy 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 and on and on except that it would break their game

For the real life me, id take a las pistol. Rechargable here on earth to some extent, and all id need a weapon for is home defense anyway, but the power of the lasgun exceeds any modern handgun.
For fictional me, either a mastercrafted unique powersword, for the coolness factor of being an almost lightsaber, or the exitus rifle with turbopenetrator rounds, cause nothing on the planet would take a hit from that thing and walk away smiling. Heck, I bet you could sink an aircraft carrier with half a dozen shots.

No, the ammunition for a railgun is super tiny, it's just going at unbelievable speeds. With that little mass, there is not enough momentum to shift the enormous gun. Also, the gases account for like 99/100 of recoil. If you use a magnet to attract iron fillings, do you feel the magnet being pushed away from the filings? No, that wouldn't make sense, at all. This is the EXACT same thing.

The rules don't represent it realistically; Autoguns are the equivelant of normal guns anyway so that point of our weapons being S1/2 is mute. Lasguns would be more like S4 or S5 - if you shoot someone with a gun, they're more likely than not gonna die.
It has a longer range, more power, more accuracy, and is more efficent with more shots per charge than most other laser weaponry. I'll never run out of ammo, and it is still better than any other weapon we have today.

Also, the gases account for like 99/100 of recoil. If you use a magnet to attract iron fillings, do you feel the magnet being pushed away from the filings? No, that wouldn't make sense, at all. Heavy bolter as a first choice. It's big, angry, and works for psychological warfare as well as physical. I mean come on, it's a big ing gun. The only reason I don't pick a multimelta is because there's no way to get more ammo for it. With a HB, I can at least try and manufacture my own rounds for it. Same goes for plasma rifle/cannon. Yes, I would brave the "Gets Hot" rolls.
