i has a predator screaming to become a ruzzbot!
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Yeah, I suppose that would be ok, though RuzzBots are typically Russ hulls, but I suppose Rhino bodies are close enough...
Now, here is a question, would a RuzzBot be a BattleWagon or LootedWagon?
BattleWagon is closer armour and wargear is more diverse BUT LootedWagons have suited Rules and the BoomGun has a similar profile to the Battle Cannon
40279
Post by: prototype_X
acctualy ive changed my mind im gonna start with a fighta Automatically Appended Next Post: the notes say that it counts as a demolisher or standard russ
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
And another person falls to the fighta craze...
And for the record it says
"...Leman Russ Hull or Similar..."
And that stuff you mentioned is for the old edition, where looted vehicles used the profile from other dex's
Yes, the could have skimmers...
40279
Post by: prototype_X
no the craze is fighta bommas!
i recon this is smaller
whats the size on the fighter, i cant make it out.
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
15cm or 6"

I wish I could do something but the time frame is too constricting. sounds like a cool idea though, will be watching this.
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
More than one year is too constricting?!
40279
Post by: prototype_X
alrighty then. i have decided to make a drop pod too. again, what are the dimentions on it.

I'll do the ork warbike. Look closelier tis in the pic Seriously guys i think you should open up the compo to smaller vehicles, some people (me included) are rather intimidated by the size of the ork vehicles on that picture.
18980
Post by: Arakasi
But then they would be competing with my Trukk Rally I'd get involved with this if I wasn't trying to complete five Trukks...
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
No Skullhamma Category? Disappoint.
32369
Post by: schank23
I'm down. These comps will help me with getting my army finished. Doing a trukk for Arakasi's trukk rally so why not something bigger to. Now I just have to figure out what to make.
35046
Post by: Perkustin
I think i will do the warbike, i dont plan on collecting orks so it will be a nice one off.
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I am oddly tempted to try a Krawla, despite not playing orks and having way to many projects already. Maybe 2012 edition of the contest.
35046
Post by: Perkustin
I think it is only fair if either Matt.Kingsley or Prototype x tackles the Savage gunship. Its not really very good sportsmanship/competition organising to expect people to build the bigger ones while you guys settle for the smallest (apart from mine ).
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
1st: It says on the rules that you only need to ask me or proto if you can make a vehicle not on the list.
Skullhammer-Yes
Warbike-Proto and I will think about it
If Proto and I say nay to the bike, you can do a buggy instead.
2nd: That Savage is 3 and a 3/4 meters long!
I wasn't suggesting anyone to do it, I was just stating if you wanted, you can
Insane maybe, but then, the person who attempts to build it has to be to attempt it!
38415
Post by: tantan628
Would a stormraven as a mega bomma be ok, or would it be more appropriate as something else?
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
I'd say fighta based on size
Remember, I't doesn't have to be fully legal as far as the game of 40k (apoc) goes, as you can easily create your own datasheet after so the vehicle you built isn't collecting dust
38179
Post by: Maddy_
2 pages already
god, this comp will be popular
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Hopefully...
Bigfish has said he'll probably make a RuzzBot!
38179
Post by: Maddy_
wha?
RuzzBot?
But that's easy(ish)!
come on bigfish! try your hand at the savage!
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Hey! I'm making a RuzzBot too.
Of course, I will be building something else afterwards but oh well.
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Ok, sounds cool, put me down for a fighta for now
38179
Post by: Maddy_
 only joking!
Anyway, I think I may make a warbuggy varient!
Of course, if I don't want to do it 1/2 way, I'll pull out and give it to you to finish
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Ok, so monkeytroll, I'll put you down for a fights.
Maddy_, I'll put you down for the warbuggy varient.
Any more?

Well if warbuggies are in you may as well put me down for at least one of those too
Hmm, what about Junkas? Of couse mine should be viable as a BW too, but...
So glad this and the trukk rally are long term projects

Obviously the Junka and the Buggy have been started a while now, that's still about the state of them at the moment though This should ensure I finish them in the next year...

I think the savage should be for the an ultimate challenge!
Look, if you make a savage, you'll get extra time!
40279
Post by: prototype_X
great! i need to know the size for the tailpart so i can make a start.
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Y..y..y..your j..j..j..joking, r..right? Ohh, and the tail is (over?) 1.5m Each small box = 1.5cm
40279
Post by: prototype_X
NO!
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Anyway, the tail=1.m
the way the grid works is: Each small box = 1.5cm^2
The side of each small box =1.5cm
1.5 cm on the grid = 1m in real life!
40279

hey im in the title!
if any one ever wants to whip up a gun turret etc for the gunship it would be great!

40279

24409

You should search/create a datasheet for it!
40279

gotta make it first! so far the plan is:
concept scetches
scaled down version
full version out of cardboard
the real deal!

12 1/2 feet long? Its going to be bigger then the table!?!?! You should make a fully detailed interior and then play a game in it! Kinda like in the back of one of the Apoc books.
Also, eff it, Proto has inspired me to not be a wuss. I'll take a Krawla. At least I'll give it a shot. Is it ok to have help from my brother?

Yay i can do my bike! Tell you what i will try and get some WIPs ASAP as my build will probably be simplest.
I very much like the imaginative use of card in that battlewagon. Think i will be using similar parts for mine (Monkey trolls lego wheels have given me an idea lol).
Also i just found the solitary 40k ork in my entire collection, yas!

yeah, I know what it's like trying to work with just a few orks. All I've got is the AOBR orks, and I can't use the warboss as he's being turned into ork's version of santa!
Also, does anyone know of any gretchin models that make good pilots or even ork ones as modelling normal one to fit is taking me a long time.

Why is every one making santa...
as for the gretchin query, the plastic gretchin box has some grots that could easily be konverted ta do da job!
38415
Post by: tantan628
Because santa is awesome! And that klaw is perfect for holding a snowball. Plus, since i don't play orks, with a little fishing line he will be a christmas tree ornament!
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
^ Yeah, I made one of them last year, haven't painted him yet whenever I go to my gaming club, loads of other young ork players rush around to get a glimpse of him anyway... lets get back on topic!

Then I'll work on the gun drawings. Ohh, and I bodged up my measurements the heighest point on the Savage is 85.5cm

Yeah I here you sum1
You don't have to, but it would be nice if it was.

Yeah, I suppose you can enter it.
It can be from 40k and any 40k spin-off game (although it will have to go in a separate catagory

I've started on an ork titan about a week ago, I started working out scale expecting it to be in the Stompa+ range but forgetting about "heroic" scale when it comes to 40k I believe it will land more in the Mega Gargant range. I'm just really getting back into the hobby and I want to have some Ork fun. I'll post some milestone pictures in this thread as it goes but I'll probly make a thread on it's own too.

I'd already started my stormraven/fighta so I'll have it built soon so once it's finished, painted and everything is it ok if I enter again?
I probably won't due to lack of time as it's holidays at the moment and I want to expand my scenery collection but I might do.

Ok with some assistance from my grot helpers (my 2yr old and 4 yr old) I have started on a stompa here's the wip so far. Lots and lots of rivits going to be needed!
and the back
Im not sure if the size 100% correct its about 8 or nine inches tall so hopefully close enough. Gotta build gun arm and details now. The 4 yr old(I mean grot helper no.1) selected most of the pieces out of my junk box and he decided it needed a wrecking ball.

I'm working on a mega-dread right now, so count me in!!
Check it out here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/383812.page or at my brand new blog with all of one post, here: http://dawerkshop.blogspot.com/
For the lazy, here is one shot:
I am also toying with doing a superheavy... just can't decide if I want to do a Landa, a Krawla, or a Kill Tank.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
And some info for my fellow InsaniMeks, knock it off with that cheap cereal box cardboard!! Well, don't knock it off if it is all you have to work with, but check this out: http://www.lairdplastics.com/ . I bought a 4' x 8' sheet of .040 plasticard (just a fraction over 1mm, which is .039) for $24. Just to price compare, a 7" x 11" piece of the same from plastruct is $5.50 for 5. That is (approximately, since I don't want to do real math) more than 8 times the material for the same price.
They have locations all over the place: http://www.lairdplastics.com/locations-list
I'm a little bit of a hobby snob, sure, but when you can work with better materials, why not? Automatically Appended Next Post: I should really read the whole thread, lol. Put me down for all of the above. I'm gonna make them anyways, so why not?
Also, I will try my hand at a Savage. What did we figure the dimensions would be again?

40-50" off the top of my head. i would say about 43 to be more precise.
build a savage!? insanity!
it is simply too big to use in even an apocalypse game.

I would like to enter, when is this compitition ending as I have money issues? Ohh right end date is 2012 right in that case put me down for a fighta bomber and a gargant. Anyone mind shooting me a pm for gargant measurements as the graph suggests a size approx 20.5cm tall and 10cm ish wide and that sounds a bit small...

I have noticed that the scale on the big picture is one inch per little square which means the cm measurements for each square are roughly 2.5 cm per side not 1.5cm, actualy ita about 2.457something something I can't recall the exact number but it's close enough to 2.5cm as makes no difference, I hope that helps people scale their creations correctly, I'm sorry if someone has already mentioned this.

I'll second this, each little square = one inch which is roughly 2.5 cm. (big squares 5" or 13cm approx) Its easiest to see by comparing the heights as the no. of inches is written in along the side.
For me, this means my 9" (23cm) tall stompa is a little too big to be the standard one. I'll have to add a belly gun and big magnet (as per 4yr old wishes) and loads of extra gubbins and call it a mekboy stompa.

OK, consider me insane. I just started planning my kill-kruiza. For simplicity's sake I think I'll just scale it out to one small square = 2cm (so 1 large square = 10).
Off to Hobby Lobby tomorrow to buy 8 billion metric tons of foamcore. Automatically Appended Next Post: OK, initial planning complete!
I will build the basic superstructure out of simple geometric shapes. I don't have a functional scanner so you'll just have to bear with a description. The central body, or spine, of the ship will be a rectangle 120 centimeters long by 60 cm tall, and 40 cm wide. Now I know that at first glance this sounds skinny (guesstimate that 40 cm wide is about 1/5 or 1/6 the length), there will be many gubbins for engines and weapons and the like protruding off the sides. This superstructure will be the platform for all the gubbins to be built off of. At either end of the central body will be a cube jutting out, which we shall call Tab A (the front) and Tab B (the rear). The tabs will measure 20cmx20x20, and form a join location for other components.
The tail section will be 90 centimeters tall and 70 centimeters long, 30 centimeters wide. Everyone should be familiar with the shape of the tail from the front page of the thread, and I hope everyone remembers graphing equations in algebra 2 in high school... the angle at the bottom of the tail will hav a rise of 30 centimeters with a run of 55, while the top angle will have a rise (or fall as the case may be) of 10 cm and a run of 40. And if I got those terms wrong, I sucked at algebra... I was too smart and never paid attention, I just winged it (refuse to say I wang it) on my way to a B.
The head, or front, of the ship will be the hardest to describe, because it will flair back at 5 angles. Suffice ti to say I will just build it and show you photos, cause it's late and my brain is already planning a coup d'etat. The basic dimensions of the head at their largest (remembering that it will obviously taper from small in the front to larger in the back) will be 120 cm long, 65 cm tall and 70 cm wide. The head will overlap the body by about 15 cm or so, so all three added together shoudl be about 375 cm, before gubbins.
Holy feth I am insane...

Ohhh dear I appear to be getting carried away again, I've drawn out the skeleton on autocad and the sheet needed for laser cutting is about 190mmX280mm for the wings and 220mmX 480mm for the main body and tail... or in inches its somthing like 7,1/2 X 11 inches and 8,1/4 X 18 inches now to ask Warmill how much it will cost for them to laser cut it for me, On the plus side I got my mates to steal a sheet of 1mm plasticard for me it's only 1.5M bu 0.7M

Okay here is the start of my Ork krawler
Sorry for the very dark pictures, I work in my basement. I'll try to take them upstairs from now on.
Here is a front view of it.
The toy that its built off of is 13 inches long which is a bit short for a Krawla and it seems to me the it might not be wide enough either. however, fear not, I am sure I will figure something out with suggestions from all of you and from the suggestion of my local gaming friends.
After Looking at the tracks that the toy come with I decided that they are very wimpy and needed some work, so the first thought in my head was, Use the beneblade side from the abandoned scratch built baneblade.
so I decided to mount that on top of the toy tracks like so:
I still have to make another one for the other side. And I also need to buy some of these:

But wait, I think I get it... look what the ork is standing next to now. I think it's... yeah... it's a jet turbine intake. And it's HUGE!
You guessed it (I hope!), it's definitely a Bommer! i have decided yet if it's a standard bommer, or a Blasta Bommer yet... though I certainly love the idea of a Deff Arsenal airstrike. I also love the idea of transporting Stormboyz into battle. Damn sexirrific. Anyways, onto the build...
So here is an engine (there will be four) further along:
The foamcore sticking off the side is gthe beginnings of the wing mount onto the main fuselage.
Front view of the engine nacel. The only detail work I have done is on the interior blades, so that I didn't have to work on them around the housing. Other detailing will be a long time coming.

*I apologize for the blurriness of these pics too, I will make sure that they come out better in the next update*
Yes! That is looking great!

Same here!
now, some of you have been wondering why I haven't posted WIP picks yet, well:
a. I'm still planning (cause I wanna win so I don't have to pay for postage )
b. I don't have the materials yet
c. When I was getting ready to get the materials, I got broken into and they stole my money I saved up for orks (and chaos...)
anyway, keep them WIPs coming!

What do you mean you don't want to pay for postage, are you saying that the winner receives all the other participants vehicles?
Also I too am very sorry too hear of your burglary.
And now onto a progress report.
After running out of glue for a day, I have resumed building. Currently I am constructing a second Baneblade side to match the one which i attached in my previous post.
I used to use rectangular supports to strengthen pieces during and after gluing, now however, I use triangular supports as they are much stronger and have more surface area.
Thats all for now

Alright, screw it I'm in. Unless it's too late to enter, in which case just disregard me. But anyway, I started on a couple Killa Kans and a Grot Tank tonight, but I may also build a Fighta...or a Trukk...or some bikes. Basically, whatever my cute little ADD mind can come up with and lay out the pieces for. Thanks.
Jon
EDIT: Also, if I'm allowed to enter, I'm going to start a blog once I have some good WIP pictures to post, and I'll just link from my blog over here.

Ok I've made a bit of progress today, but this time work took place at the FLGS. The First thing I did was mount the second scratch built Baneblade side. I also started work an a hull mounted turret And of course it is magnatized And what would a turret be without weapons The weapon on the left hand side is obviously some sort of kannon, which i decided is a better version of the killkannon, which i call a "Big-Dakka-Kannon" range: 48" Str:8 Ordnance Barrage 2, 5" blast While the other Gun is a Big Zzappa which will be getting more gubbinz added to it soon

@bigfish what anvildude said is correct.
And thank you Matt.Kingsley
Well I am running low on some certain thicknesses of plasticard sheets so it will be 2 weeks until i get enough money to order everything i need, so there wont be a ton of progress.
I will however be scouring my extensive bits collection for suitable gubbinz to add to the krawla. I also ordered some of those tracks i mentioned in an earlier post and they should be arriiving sometime next week.

Ill gladly toss my hat in there for a Skullhamma if your still taking entries. I started working on one a monthish ago and only got about half done, so theres plenty to still do, AND you dont have a skullhamma entry

After looking at the turret, I got to thinking that the Big Dakka Kannon needs an ammo hopper to feed the shells to it. So i made this:

yeah it has like 12 full size gamin tables, a bunch of normal tables and a good amount of merchandise.
And to get back on topic, I am working on another turret to match the one i made a couple days ago. no pics yet but it should look the same as the other.

But I will definitely be following the bomber with bated breath.

Finally managed to figure out a way to get pics on here, so I'll start showing my WIPs soon.

... July 2012 huh?
Maybe I could finish somfing by den. I'z got a DAF Trukk cab already well underway. Though I still need to fix it to the chassis. It's gonna get a trailer and wot, still to come.
Is it too late ton enter this wonderful game or shall I post a pic of the WIP trukk cab?

Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Sorry GG, this comp doesn't include trukks (if it did, Arakasi would have a fit)
There is a link on the first page to a trukk comp, made by Arakasi
If there are any other vehicles you would like to enter, please do!
Anyone can enter at any time (Before July 2012)
Edit: but you can enter the trailer! (and any other non-trukk section of it!)

Ok, I wasn't sure which one I should plop my gas guzzler in.
... I don't suppose a teleporting mekshop counts as a vehicle?

Just edited the first reply to you, read it!
Teleporting mek shop... Hmmmmm...
I'll have to talk to proto, although pics would help!

Post by: The Good Green
Nice! When I get the trailer started I'll post it in here.
Here's a shot of the mekshop:
The white tower in the middle is a giant Shokk Attack gun, like a planetary defense canon, and like the smaller SAG's, if it rolls a... (what's that roll again?) the mekshop teleports, as does everything within a, let's say:12" bubble centered on the "muzzle". I would think it's vehicle potential would only truly be realized in a multiple table Apocalypse game. (I'm working on a campaign based around this building)

Post by: Matt.Kingsley
No, definately a building...
But, is that a vehicle I spy???
Or is that the trukk

Post by: The Good Green
It's the DAF Cab... :\
What about light vehicles?
24409
Post by: Matt.Kingsley
Well, it is a vehicle that isn't a truk!
It would go into the looted vehicle catagory!

Sweet! also, since the sawfish isn't a codex unit, it can count as a landspeeder storm.
