Tbh i think Celestia could've managed this whole fiasco a bit better. first off, why did she get a simple unicorn to create the defensive spell? surely she has enough power to do it? or twilight, who's special talent is MAGIC after all. secondly, when Canterlot is invaded, what the hay are the royal guard doing? are Equestria's finest so easily defeated by a bunch of bug-ponies? And thirdly, surely it wouldve been much more clever to lock the invading changeling army away, instead of just chucking them over the horizon, to attack other realms, or worse, regroup and attack equestria. maybe the changeling army I could understand (as i suppose it would cost a lot to feed an entire army of POWs) but queen chrysalis? lock that slimy sonofagun up in tararus! I mean come on, seriously ponydom?
Well I now sit eagerly awaiting news on season 3. By hell that was a great episode! I kinda had the plot all worked out in my head by the start of the 'second' episode but who the queen changeling was in the end did have my pleasantly surprised. I will say it seemed a little rushed towards the end as some people have said but they are only 20 minute episodes so it wasn't going to be a epic novel. But yeah, this ep definitely had me squealing like a fan-girl. Reminded me more of the earlier episodes where I couldn't stop grinning for the whole day after watching them. This really was a brilliant feel good episode and I couldn't think of a better way to round off the season. *sighs* Oh and the ending song, dammit now I gotta find a download for that!
Edit: There is a season 3, fragging PARTY CANNON TIME! Yahoo!

You're overthinkin' it. The main goal, as corny as it sounds, was to show that nothing can beat true love, and that not even the Elements of Harmony can be compared.
My head-canon with Luna not intervening is the same as the Emperor of Mankind at the Golden Throne: there's no toilet paper and they're to embarrassed to ask for help.

Squee when P0n-3 popped up out of nowhere! Songs were also all awesome, and I'm so happy I'm not even going to pick holes in the plot. I'm turning off cynical mode! And I'm using exclamation marks! You know I'm happy when that happens!

Erm, hm, quite.
I'm starting to think pinkie has a tardis pocket somewhere on her as she seemed to pull scratch out of no where XD
TO help pass the time between the seasons, my friend and I are collaborating on making a MLP:FiM RPG. Currently we're having the dilemma of whether we should make it in brushmane or blind-bag scale. Brushmane would make it a lot easier to sculpt enemies in detail, and gives us access to characters we will need, specifically the CMCs and Spike, as well as several background ponies we may need. Blind-bags, on the other hand, are cheaper and have a vast range of different ponies, specifically more male ponies. Any thoughts on which would work better?
Just to let you know, there's an Unknown Armies ponyRPG out there- Unknown Ponies. It's pretty keen, apparently, though perhaps not what you were looking for.
I'll have a look at that, I've heard there's one similar to Savage Worlds as well, and we may end up using a rules system similar to one of those two, but modified to put in the enemies we've designed (Napoleonic Griffon army!).
Apparently Discord makes a return in s3 as Q's confirmed he's voiced another episode for FiM. With the Changlings just kicked out and not sealed away or anything, what are the odds they sneak back in and free Discord, and we get a Chrysalis/Discord tag team vs the Elements?
Also, I disagree with the Love > Harmony, as we never saw Harmony get a chance. Harmony tends to somewhat permanently remove the problem, or at least put it away for 1000+ years. Love just appeared to boot them out of the immediate vicinity.

Yeah, I mean Celestia thought the Elements of Harmony would work and I think she knows a thing or two about them and their power, all things considered.

The return of the changeling breed is unavoidable, however, remember how Discord was freed ...
The Changelings do not have to even know about Discord in order to free him, if you think a bit.
Also, and this is an utmost crucial point:
What if some changelings truly wants to change their ways and become friends?
As i see it, that is the reason why they weren't imprisoned, but just swept away.
Perhaps for you lot it's not worth the trouble, but ever considered making your own shirts?
Perhaps it's not an issue there, but $18 + international shipping + custom's taxes can't compete with:
- Cotton t-shirt $9.08
- Sublimation print + applying it $5.67 (you can do it at print shope, most cheap ones won't apply it, but you can do it at home with your iron.

As soon as I saw the Bass Cannon, I started thinking about how much it would cost to get the custom woofer, tweeters and servos to have it open up like that.
The white pony with the sweet shades is fan named Vinyl Scrath/DJ-PON3. She appeared for some fifteen seconds in the dress episode and had no lines. However, she's got a unique character design, and DJs are cool, so she became really popular and has a lot of fanon build up around her. She reappeared for another brief cameo with still no lines at the end of the season two finale. She's one of my favorites when it comes to wallpapers because I like her colors.
Her roommate in that video is fan named Octavia. Same thing, different episode. Bronies love their background ponies. Both being musical in nature they are almost always paired together as an odd couple type trope in the fanon.
The muscle pony was a one episode sight gag. He's usually named by fans as Roid Rage or Horse Power. Not seen him pop up in any stories yet, just some comics.
Well. No idea if that's a troll article or not, but honestly, I think it's probably one of the better "hate" articles out there. They apparently did their research, and rather than straight up belittling Bronies, they were more of the view that others were better. It wasn't a perfect message, but it showed a lot more tolerance (albeit with some bitter and venemous language) than I would have expected.
That article was funny. "Every single person who doesn't fight for wars is a stupid kid and should grow up and go fight for the right of all the other stupid kids" was what I got out of it.
Anvildude wrote: They apparently did their research, rather than straight up belittling Bronies
Actually, I thought it was just the same argument again, with no research whatsoever. As for comparing us to the armed forces, well that's just a terrible idea. Saying we wouldn't fight for our rights, or that we are cowards for being fans of the show is just plain stupid. Clearly, someone didn't have a childhood.
Definitely read the comments on that article, he pretty much gets ripped to shreds, even by people that normally defend everything he writes, and who haven't watched the show either... purely for his shoddy journalism on a website that they personally visit because they expect quality reporting.
Also, there's a wonderful part of the comments where someone who initially attacks the show and supports the article gets their opinion changed by a very calm and persistant brony who eventually convinces them to admit an error and watch a few eps of the show. I'm constantly surprised by the patience of our fanbase to always respond politely and intelligently no matter how much hate is incoming, it's really great!
I suppose I was more impressed by the fact that, aside from the insults and vitriol, there weren't any falsehoods (that I could see) within the article. It debased Bronies, and said they were immature, but to some extent, a lot of us [/i]are[/i] watching a show targeted at preteen girls without a 'reasonable' excuse like being parents or having younger siblings- it's understandable that a 'Hater' would translate that into immaturity. But there wasn't anything in there questioning sexuality, morality or mental health issues (aside from the immaturity thing, which, again was somewhat justified). Certainly it's amusing that he lauds the Armed Forces as an opposition to "Bronyism" when so many of our soldiers, sailors and pilots are into the show, but it wasn't rife with pure falsehoods like many similar articles are.
In contrast, “My Little Pony” inspires them to adopt brony names like Starfire Cuddlecakes and glue fake unicorn horns to their foreheads. Then go out in public.
TBH I do this all the time, hell I'm sat here right now with my hair coloured purple holding my unicorn horn in place while the glue sets -_(\
It really does surprise me just how stupid this man is. he has clearly done little to no research on the topic and has resorted to:
men should all be manly men who do man things with their man friends------MLP isn't for men but there're are men who like it------ergo, these men must be deluded fools with supressed ideals of being a five year old girls and need to MAN THE FETH UP!
also, comparing bronies to the armed forces…..that has to be one of the strangest comparisons I have ever seen.
and LOTR had the message of overcoming your fears and MLP doesn’t.....then what the buck was giggle at ghosties about

I dunno, wings are pretty easy, all you need is a pin drill and a high pain threshold

Its surprisingly not that bad on the moon, just me and half the population of equestria, there are plenty of bananas and muffins to eat, breathings a little bit of a problem but i can overlook that
'sup bronies? I was on here awhile ago asking questions, and I finally got around to watching an episode or three with my 3.5 year old daughter. She loved it, and I gotta say, I think I'm a brony! It was pretty good, I can see why you like it. All the characters have such honest personalities, its sharp and witty, and its got some action too. We're on season 1 episode 4, my kid already knows all their names.

FTR, I'd just like to thank Warlord Gazghkull Thraka for posting that picture. I thought it was pretty funny and very well-executed. I lol'd.
You have pointed out that many members of this thread are mature, sensible and not liable to be angered in the slightest; that doesn't include you. You called him a troll and a fool for posting a funny picture, which screams of angry butt-hurt to me. But then... sadly, you certainly wouldn't be the first brony to be hyper-sensitive.
liquidjoshi wrote:Because, you know, calling him out on that was the best way to handle the situation.
I thought he dealt with it in a perfectly balanced way.
Did it even need calling out? If he was a troll, (which I honestly don't think he was - it was just a picture, and a pretty cool one at that), going about his trollish business in trying to provoke butt-hurt reactions, what would be the best way to go about it if he actually succeeded in his mission? Feed him by flipping into all-out butt-hurt brony mode?
I'd go with ignore it... or just enjoy the art for the blatant piece of humour it was.
You made my point for me. Even you don't think it needed saying.
Somehow, I think he was trolling. Most of us don't like that kind of image. DP didn't "Flip out" as you put it, either. He was perfectly calm, and actually made significant points to discourage Trolls, as it only benefits us. Like he said, we will not respond with anger, only love and tolerance.
LOL! Ahh don't even get me started on love and tolerance! ;D
Have you ever seen bronies argue with other bronies? It can be a thoroughly unpleasant thing to witness.. A pair of arguing bronies "love and tolerate" each other through teeth so gritted you'd expect their heads to implode..
It started out as a sweet sentiment at first, but the fanbase has gotten so incredibly huge, heated debates and the like are always to be expected.
Of course they are. As General Sturnn said, "I expect war in all things, and am rarely disappointed or caught off guard." However, I don't think arguments dispersed with tolerance are done through gritted teeth.
Where I live, even seeing two bronies in the same place is miraculous.

No, he is a troll. If you look at his other post's it's pretty much nothing but gore pics along with some stupid "they see me trollin" picture. I wasn’t angered in the slightest by it and nor was I flipping out/getting but hurt over it. Like liquidjoshi said I was simply calling him out and informing him that any attempts at trolling this page is futile
As for "blatant piece of humour", the pinkie and dreadnought pic could count as humour (it made me lol a little when I saw it) but photoshoped dead ponies into a space marine picture is neither talented or humorous. The second one was maybe better but taking his first pic into account and based on his previous posts I would say it was a (poorly executed) attempt at trolling

But as for the pic itself being neither talented or humorous, it's all opinion.

I don't know, Pinky grabbed Twilight and started using her as a Minigun, that's not too grimdark to me
Though the song was excellent. Where the Princess was singing two parts.
The changeling episodes. Pinky using Twilight as a minigun was lit-rally the greatest thing I have ever seen.
Agreed. I saw her bring her forward like that, holding her mane/tail, and immediately thought "MINIGUN!". Was not disappoint.
What am i missing here?
Minigun?
I always thought old machinegun/chaingun/assault cannon(old version) when i saw it, not "minigun"?
There is nothing "mini" about it ....
As for what to do until Season 3 ....
Well, my "Space Pony" project seems to go too slow .... so i'll have that to do ... if anything ..
I know what you two mean. I wouldn't mind giving it a go but its by the same people who did dragon fable and adventure quest which were both pretty bad/childish. I might take the plunge and report back after the desperation for new ponies kicks in while waiting for season 3

Slightly off topic (but Pony related through Lauren Faust), I've heard that apparently Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends is getting a seventh series.
well, I have to say that PVP game is pretty addictive. the only down sides are that it is far too easy (LV 5 and still haven't come any whereclose to dieing) and in true atrix fassion its pretty silly. not great but a good way to pass the timewhen really board XD

See, this is something interesting about the fandom. We've got so many talented people that have just come out of the woodwork, making songs, stories and entire video games based around this franchise.
I must admit, I haven't looked closely at the game- I'm not the sort that buys indie titles, or non-full games usually. But from the artwork I've seen, and the info in the threads, plus the huge and interesting opportunity of mixing FiM and 40K, I was rather looking forward to seeing what came of this. If you're certain you don't want to continue, well, that's alright (though I'd suggest popping over to a major Pony forum and seeing if anyone else wants to adopt it) but I think you can make this something pretty neat if you keep at it. Don't force yourself to work on it, though, if you don't want to. Keep it fun, keep it a hobby thing.

FINALLY finished the Warmachine Thorn conversion commission I was given and got the set of McD Ponies as payment. Posted awhile back that he said some would be missing because his contact he was getting them from apparently took some to sell for crack money or something, but he couldn't tell me which ones as he had no idea who any of them were. Well it turns out the only one missing was Cheerilee, the second to least cared about one in the set. I would rather it would have been the random grey nopony that was missing, but I got the full Mane Six so I'm happy. Only AJ came with their ring things, so she's hanging from my rear view already, and I've got some keychains that I'll attach to Pinkie Pie and Twilight to hang from my Warmachine bags.

It is very amateurish as a video ....

It also shows some additions that isn't in the current Demo.

Looking pretty sweet, and collectable coins from the enemies make me happy. Collectables always make people happy. Just a quick question though, what are the enemies designed to be? Are they as some sort of oversized parasprites, or something else?

If you ever feel under pressure just stop and think "What would Twilight do?". If the answer is panic or go insane then you'd probably be best to not do that, though.

It also shows some additions that isn't in the current Demo.
Looking pretty sweet, and collectable coins from the enemies make me happy. Collectables always make people happy. Just a quick question though, what are the enemies designed to be? Are they as some sort of oversized parasprites, or something else?
Top notch work!
Thank you
Yes, i know they look like goldcoins, but they are really yellow crystal gems ...
And you are, in a way, correct about the origin about the enemies that is shown:
They used to be Parasprites, but some scientists decided to alter them genetically, to remove their massive eating and procreation.
The result was something the scientists called "GeneSprites" ....
Of course something has gone wrong: they mutate instead, depending on what they have eaten ....
I have read a "Get back at cupcakes" Fanfic where RD travels through several worlds, and end up actually killing the insane Pinkamena, instead ... or one of them, at least, ....
liquidjoshi wrote:Why is it that much though, am I missing something about it? 125 bits...
because someponies will pay anything for something that awesome and so thats how much they'll charge. it’s disgusting really that they find that an acceptable price to charge desperate fans :3
Aduro wrote:That size, quality and individually hand made, that's not a terrible price. Figure how many hours went into that.
true though I would argue that 200/125 bits is still a little too much. that being said I'm pretty ignorant of how much a decent plush costs these days :3
Let's see. Prolly took at least 10 hours of work, with high quality materials. Properly stuffed, with tight, even stitching, suggesting someone that's well versed in their craft. This would mean at least 10 dollars per hour, up to 30 or 40. 200 bits is pretty good.

hmmmm.......I wonder if I could barter the seller down pinkie pie style........
So i went to 40k night today(where i won my first game ever)
Where i saw ponies, and i found out thy belonged to someones fought where he brought to show a brony.
Yup i found a brony at 40k night

It amuses me that I don't even have to click the video to know the quote. But yeah, I've seen a bunch of various cool things fans have made that I'd like to buy. Unfortunately there are fans with far more disposable income than I such that I could never afford the stuff that pops up on eBay.

I agree it would be nice if my gaming club would give ponies a go but oh well :/
i would love to see a MLP movie so bad but until then i would have to just sit down and watch the royal wedding endlessly (as if i have been doing anything else all this time), its as close to a movie as were probably going to get
good animation/story line and really well done and deep characters tow of the main reason, then there's that talented and friendly community that comes with it
not directed at you InquisitorVaron, but we need a bit at the start of this thread as to why we alll love this show and put the page number in the thread title as this question gets asked a lot XD
Ridiculously talented fan community, that is. There's probably been about a dozen musicians, rappers, artists and other creators that have gotten their kickstart through the Brony community. (Yes, rappers. There's about 10 of them all over YouTube, at least).
There's brilliantly done crossover fiction, and more fanfic than probably any other fan community since Harry Potter and Twilight, with at least 3 major Brony websites that I know of off the top of my head.
Another great point of the show is the amount of parodies that appear within it. Metal Gear Solid, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Star Trek, Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, The Big Lewbowski, Batman, Salvador Dali paintings, King Kong, Trainspotting, Indiana Jones, Mr T and Sherlock Holmes, just to name a few...
My aunt is dead.
She says "Are you sure you arent unitentially letting people know you are gay"
I just waved my hand and said "Drop it" and she did. But before that she mention how my wallpaper is MLP, and my cousin hears this and the look on here face of sheer shock.
All this happening in a crowded park,
How much Warhammer 40.000 would you here say is needed for an FiM/WH40K crossover?
The one i have a disagreement says it must be canon WH40K, even if it is in a different world (Equestria), and i say it doesn't have to be....
..... at all, really.
Perhaps you here can help out finding a good middle ground?
As an example:
If Equestria would be changed into WH40K canon, then at least 70% of all Unicorns must be killed off, just to get their number somewhat closer to the WH40K's amount of psykers.
I really don't want that.
I prefer the idea that a squad of 5 easily may include at least 1 Unicorn, sometimes even 2 .... but then, i really liked the old Genestealer supplement to the original Space Hulk ...
just imagine having a bolt gun for your cutie mark (would marines even have cutie marks?) and would the pony marines need all the bodily enhancement? where would the SoB come from and would the marines all be stalions? there would obviously be changeling tyranids but what about the other alien adversaries like the tau and eldar and would that make celestia the emperor and discord the gods of pony chaos?
these are but a few of the questions i have in my mind about this but given the fact that these are worked out this is a verry promising idea
Pegasi as assault marines, Earth Ponies as tacticals, Unicorns as magical Devastators?
Great start ... It could even work .... but i think it would not allow the unicorns the diversity they might have in combat ...
KillerSkivil wrote:just imagine having a bolt gun for your cutie mark (would marines even have cutie marks?) and would the pony marines need all the bodily enhancement? where would the SoB come from and would the marines all be stalions? there would obviously be changeling tyranids but what about the other alien adversaries like the tau and eldar and would that make celestia the emperor and discord the gods of pony chaos?

and one more thing Pony Heresy!!!!!!1!!!!
As all adult ponies has cutiemarks, I think the Soldiers should have as well, even though it isn't visible, normally, as with the Canterlot Guard.
That is what i think, though.
You made me think of something, though:
Equestria seems very mare-dominated, but that could be because a lot of the stallions really is in the Canterlot Royal Guard ....
Personally, i like to think of the "Space Mareines" as having mixed gender, perhaps a semi-artificial un-gendered, just like all Space Marines are all male.
This would make the gender-definition of "sisters of battle" unneccesary, but all the rest could still be true, like they not being as skilled nor strong as the Mar(e)ines.
I think the Parasprites are better as Tryranids. Why? They eat much, and may attack en masse ....
I think the Changelings would be closer to Necrons, .... somehow.
That Discord is Chaos, is obvious.
I agree, your questions are really good ones, and exactly what i meant when asking.
What do you others here think?
I'm really curious about your opinons ....
I spent ages typing out a response, then realised this was the best point I could make.
Find a middle ground that suits you. Not Jim, Bob or Harry, YOU. Then, when you are happy, test it with some of us. From what i saw in the Video on Youtube it looks good so far. If it's all good, which it most likely will be, then mission success, if not then try again.
And whoever keeps telling you "you're doing it wrong", just ignore them. Seriously, just ignore them.

I was on my way up from school when I happened to stop at the newsagents (I was buying a White Dwarf ). As I was browsing through the magazines, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye- Fluttershy. I turned towards it, and sure as hay, there was a My Little Pony Magazine. I as I was walking towards the door, I turned back and bought it, a wise choice in my opinion. It turned out to actually be pretty good, including a full illustrated synopsis for Bridle Gossip.
(It was in fact a somewhat better purchase than the White Dwarf...)

awesome I've seen issues floating around online but I've never been able to get one in person : /
hotsauceman1, I might need to borrow some of those stickers, the amount of bronies I know is pretty slim :3
In other news, I'm heading to the Londond MCM Expo/ Comic con, and am working on a Flim Flam brothers cosplay with a friend of mine. Hoping to find a massive pony plushie, which I will purchase, and then parade around London with it over my shoulders...
OK, got a place on the coach up to GD today. Should have the actual ticket soon too, so... who can I expect to see there? I ask here because I know a few of us wanted to meet there anyway.
I'm hoping to get a ticket as soon as possible (in like a week or so) so I will be there ^_^ warhammer world didnt seem to mind my space mare-ines so I should be ok to use them at GD (if anyone wants a 1000pts game)
and good luck on your costume and pony quest bloodaxegit, may the horse be with you
I'm pretty much confirmed to be going to GD, so I should be there with 2+ Arachnaroks (I may be able to produce several more, once exams & birthday have passed), and Spike as a Wyvern once I get round to it.
And DPBellathrom, shouldn't that be "May the Faust be with you" ?
I don't know if I'll be buying loads of Beastmen or Forgeworld stuff when I'm there. The Tartaros terminators and Inquisitor Lok look cool, but then the Brass bull really has me drawn to Beastmen...
I'll have to resist getting a bunch of skin wolves to count as TWC in a 13th company army....I would like to get the skin wolf prime thing to count as wolfy wolf born but he's such a rarity now......
on the other hoof though, I kind of need that avatar w/ spear to complete my eldar wraith wall (that and he looks really really pretty :3 )

I'm thinking six squads of Purifiers, each with a different squad mark...
Ok, I have three Razorbacks which will be getting the "mark treatment", question is, which of the mane six do you guys think I should go with? I'm thinking Dash, AJ and Twi's.
i am going to be spending some money on geting myself a contemptor at the bare minimum and also a fancey armor assault squad and the apothacary kit and the bile trolls and the...........

I just remebered how much I love the carmine dragon.....oh celestia why :3

GD is going to make us all verry poor i can just see us all on the way home with that look on our faces that is a mixture of pride and of shame, our wallets certainly will not aprove
I wonder if/how many will comment now that I've got the McD Pinkie Pie hanging from one Warmachine bag and Dash hanging from the other. I'm Fairly sure it's already known who is and is not into the show at the FLGS, but it will make traveling to tournaments and cons interesting.
Also got Twi hanging from my rear view, and Rarity, Shy and AJ waiting for a purpose.

I might have to attach ponies to parts of my luggage and colthing too in an effort to seek out more bronies......
i might be playing some childrens card games in a month or so so i will see how many bronies i can find but im not 100% on actualy going as a fair few of the people who i end up playing against are just aweful and either cheat or are no chalange at all

The trick is to get really rich so that you can screw the rules
Alright, I'm going to try my hand at re-sculpting ponies, but with a twist. I'm planning on getting any random earth pony, then drilling , sculpting and painting it into a changeling. I'm sure that pics will be posted if I succeed.
Also, managed to get Woona into a Chemistry paper. At one point the concentration of an acid was doubled, so I had to put her in. THE CONCENTRATION HAS BEEN DOUBLED! (Excuse my royal Canterlot voice.)
i was totaly unaware that you could be a brony, a wargamer and a childrens card game enthusiast(?) that is just about the weirdest combination of hobies imagineable but its just so awesome...

i do not play guildwars as i simply donot have the time, ive got about 25 years of games to catch up on and since fallout is now over with i can start on no more heroes, then theres skyrim and the entire N64 library then a massive pile of megadrive games and so on

Got better than that. Biology today asked about the three domains. I couldn't remember. I believe my answer went something like this:
"Everypony is born into one of three domains: the Earth ponies, Pegusi or Unicorns. Celestia rules over them, while Luna guards the night."

Guild wars 2 will be out in a few months also. I've got a guild started for that already, though we sometimes get on GW1 as well. GW2 is much more action based and less of an MMO so I'm not going to spend as much time in it as a traditional MMO.
I'm the only Brony in the guild.. but I'm the guild leader, so they deal with it. ;P

Haha, true, but bronies are welcome in my guild. I get the usual ribbing, but in the end most people don't care. We already have 50 members and 170 in the alliance, so no jumping ship now : P
Well, this is my 1000th post, and I thought I'd spend it here. Just a few things I want to put out there.
Has anyone else ever stopped and thought "Why am I doing this? It's a bit weird by normal standards; am I just following the crowd? I've felt like this a couple of times and have dismissed it (on the grounds of I don't care what people think), but I was wondering if anyone else felt the same at some point.
I'm also interested in who prefers background ponies to the mane 6 and why. I'm in the mane 6 camp personally, and was wondering why the background ponies are so popular, arguably more so than the main characters.
Alright, I'm going to round this post of by saying you guys have probably single handedly kept me active as a brony, and no doubt have inspired me (particularly DPBellathrom, Bloodaxegit, Tiina Brown (Praying I got the names right)) to do stuff and hang around here. You guys are the best, and I can't wait to see some of you at GD.
As for your questions, I personally like the mane six more, but background characters are interesting because you can explore the depth of their characters in any way you want. The freedom of that allows stuff like Doctor Whooves & Derpy's adventures in time & space, amongst other things.
And as for why I brony, my friends showed me, and I had never seen anything before which was just so brilliant! It sits alongside wargaming as the things that make me enjoy my life, and I'm really happy that it is.

I think the freedom allowed by background characters is the same reason most of us create OCs too.
I definitely agree about the show being great. It cheers me up, and actually got me through quite a hard time.

Liquidjoshi.
aww thanks man ^_^ *hugs*
if I'm honest I question why I watch it every time I hear the intro of an episode sing "my little pony" but then I remember why I love it as soon as the episode starts and those questions get pushed answers. TBH I've never been the type to do things because someone else does it but if myself and a bunch of other people share an interest then I do get much more involved and I have to say that dakka and stuff like EQD (but mostly dakka) have kept me really interested in the fandom ^_^ that and I find myself grinning like an idiot at the end of each episode
as for the back ground ponies, I dont like them as much as the mane six (vinyl, trixie and luna withstanding) as they dont have as much official "fluff" as the mane six do, so I find it hard to get overly excited about them (I would read the fanfics but in my experience they've never been very good :/)
Oddly enough, I never really considered Luna as a background character until now. As far as the show goes, I only watch two TV shows, and this is one of them (The other is Soviet Storm, even though I only watch MLP on Youtube). Background, mainly fandom characters - Octavia, Berry Punch, etc, seem to have a larger following than the main 6 to me. Don't know why though.
Luna's not really fleshed out at all. She's only had brief cameos in two episodes plus the one she stared in, but that one had her pretty one dimensional. Hell, Celestia isnt really even fleshed out that much and she's in more episodes. We know more about Granny Smith than either of the Princesses!

Liquidjoshi.
I'm truly honored to be mentioned, i had no idea i had managed to give such a lasting impression, considering i have a tendency to only show up when i need support myself ... XD.
Which reminds me, i do must thank for all the support i have gotten (thus far?).
"Why am i doing this?"
It is a great question.
Even before i heard of FiM, i thought that there might be a way to redeem MLP, but i probably did not think it would actually happen ...
I have a pretty long time already fancied anthros, so liking FiM once i noticed its quality was no step for me.
"Background Ponies" ...
I think it might be better to divide them into at least 3 categories, that goes into eachother:
* Supporting Characters (Examples: Big Mac, Zecora, Luna)
* Supporting Char through Force of Fandom (Examples: Derpy, Vinyl scratch, Octavia, Lyra)
* Background Pony(any that do not fit as supporting character.)
Even though not much is known about Celestia, i'd say she's a Mane cast, and possibly is Spike that too, by now.
The supporting cast may have a larger following than the Mane 6 due to 2 reasons:
* There are more than 12 of them (Cherilee, Big Mac, Zecora, Luna, Derpy, Trixie, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, Lyra, Bonbon, Soarin', Spitfire(are the name correct?), Mr & Mrs Cake ...... and so on.)
* As pointed out, they offer greater "fan development possibilities" than any of the Mane 6.
I would definitely class Spike as a main character, he gets enough screentime and development I feel to put him in that category.
I completely agree about the supporting cast, and I think the support from the show itself towards these characters definitely helps their development in terms of showing the community that we are appreciated.
As for the honourable mention, you're making a 40K/FiM game. Bloodaxegit has the painted Arachnaroks and DPBellathrom has the Space Mareines. Those are all pretty damn awesome in my books, and I'm sure more people than myself are envious of those things (in a good way, of course).
I think Luna's not a main character or a background character - Luna's a supporting character. Somewhere between the two. Same with Celestia, and all the other chars that get speaking roles and have some impact on whatever episodes they're in.
disclamer, rainbow dash iis best pony. anypony who says otherwiseis wrong
Octavia is best pony, enough said.
but out of the mane 6 my mind changes every day today it is pinkie but yesterday it was rarity (thats a rarity for me i usualy despise her) however octavia is alltime best ultimate pony of all time ever........ EVER!!
Personally I would rank them
1 Twilight
2 Pinkie Pie
3 Rainbow Dash
4 Applejack
5 Fluttershy
6 Rarity.
I don't really know enough about most fan ponies (Octavia, Derpy (oddly), Lyra, etc) to really put them anywhere in specific on the list, though Vinyl is about Rainbow/Pinkie part of the scale.
1.) Pinkie Pie, because she's awesome.
2.) Rainbow Dash, because she makes for the best artistic interpretations and wallpapers.
3.) Twilight, adorkable, and probably the one most like me.
4.) Fluttershy, just cause she's full of d'awwww.
5/6.) Rarity and Applejack, because Meh.
Throw in non-mane six and you'd have Vinyl Scratch up at two with Dash and for the same reasons. She has more of my phone wallpapers than anyone else as I use my phone for music a lot and like the idea of music themed lock screens.
Luna would come in at three with Twi mostly because I like nights and the moon and stars a lot more than days. If I ever met Celestia I'd have to give her a hard time about trying to kill/torture me with her giant flaming ball of death in the sky.
Alright, I'm committing to something. The idea of a codex has been mentioned several times, including words from myself about the subject. However, nothing has come of it.
However, given that tomorrow is my final exam (and that I have three weeks off after it), and that I (rather narcisstically) think that writing is one of my stronger talents, I have chosen to get started on it, with the aim of having it finished in some form by Gamesday. A daunting task? Perhaps, but no more daunting than some of the things I mentioned in my 1000th post.
Now, here's how I want you guys to help: what do you want to see in the codex? Should it be ponies only, or a combined forces kind of deal (read Buffalo mercenaries, etc)? Certain characters as SCs? I look forward to your input and reception.
Normally I don't have a best pony, I love all of them equally. But I think Rarity has one of the most entertaining and deepest characters (that's if I must choose a best pony, It's extremely difficult to pick a favourite from the mane 6, they're all great characters).
