Well, I'll be putting my cybergrot up here after a lashing - I mean, PM- from waaghmusic :
showing of the kGB (Kustom Grot Blasta):
He'll be getting his undercoat and a lick of paint shortly - do grots have the same colour scheme for skin as the orks in waagh dakkka?

Post by: The Good Green
Holy ballz-that's crazy awesome!!
So I think I'll make a model for both and which ever comes out better will be signed up for Da WAAAGH DAKKA. This is too good to not be a part of.
Dakkadakka you rock!

Funny you mention that- I considered giving him a groin gun, but it looked... a tad phallic, so I decided against it in the end. Familiy forum and all

Post by: Gitsplitta
Nice stuff wib... you guys are making me sorry that I had to build a cyber'd up full-sized ork... the grots look like so much fun!
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I'm really impressed with the creativity everyone is able to get out of such small and usually basic models. Well done lads.
Gits, you could make done for personal use, wouldn't even have to count as cybork!
32742
Post by: wib
Glad you guys like it
Oh, quick question: I know the colour scheme but is there any preference to the tone of Grot skin?
I tend to make mine just a slightly lighter shade than the Boyz but I'll happily try something new to match a theme.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I think there's sort of a guide on the dakka page as far as skin color (I know because I had to change the way I did my ork's skin because it's nothing like how I do it normally). That being said... I don't think there is any specific guidance for grots.
Frankly, I don't feel there's any reason for all of the grots to be exactly the same (and I think it's much more interesting if they aren't). I will however... let chief herder waaaaaghmusic pass final judgement.
@WM: I might do that... IF I can find a spare grot. I think Iffy painted all the one's I had. I actually want to try my hand at a cyber grot... perhaps I'll ask Thing 2 if he wants to build one with me.
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I also had to change up how I paint orks. If you get somewhere in the ballpark of the wd standard, thats good for me. If it turns out way off your norm, take some pics for wd and you can do what you need to!
32742
Post by: wib
No worries, just wanted to make sure before I started painting.

@wib
is that wheel part of a lighter? you know the thing you turn to make a spark.... whats it called?
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Damn Wib, that's an awesome cybergrot.
@LordWynne: Fatty's got a point. I like that kustom gun, though. Maybe that one could join a lootaz mob.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
That would be my suggestion Wynne... I think their might be a flash gitz mob available too.

Post by: inmygravenimage
I'm really psyked - this is going to be one heck of a Waaagh band.
As for cyber squig colours, if you're feeling bold you could do it tiger stripe - and there's your hazard warning!

Post by: tipios
Nice one Girraffe!!
Where's my dam bitz order I really want to have a go at converting a grot:(
34046
Post by: Mr.Malevolent
@ inmygravenimage: Sounds good to me! @ GiraffeX: Awesome grot! Love the hazard stripes on the face. Heres my converted cyber squig hound before the priming. Hope you like him. I made a banner/flag for him that will be painted in hazard stripes and will read "Da Konvertas". Sorry for the blurriness, it seems my camera-phone doesn't like macro from farther away... Close up of his demented face! Ain't he a cute one? Power cord running to the "not-so-remote-control" box... The control box Hope you all like him as much as I do! I'll prime him and get started on him tomorrow.

fatty wrote:@wib

It is indeed, I've managed to salvage quite a few useful parts from lighters, I have no idea what that bit would be called though.
Oh and I just finished painting up my grot, I didn't intend to paint it all in one night but there you go, it has hazard stripes but sadly, unlike GiraffeX's, they aren't on his face. I'll grab some pictures tomorrow when it's light and I'm not cross-eyed from painting.

Got started on my grot's base today. When I've got the grot started I'll post a wip pick. Suffice it to say there are three levels on the base. There's a look-out platform and a fungus patch so far. The idea is a platform for the grot to help work on kanz and anything taller den an ork.

Because I'm kind of an idiot and forgot to take photos today in decent light, here's a badly lit, sneak preview:
Oh and, as I didn't mention it before, love the squig hound Mr Malevolent and GiraffeX, the face-paint you did is awesome

Excellent stuff guys.
Mr Malevolent - That not-so-remote control squig is great, looks proper demented.
Giraffe - Lovely job, that hazard-stripe face-paint really makes it for me.
wib - Very nice. Great posing, and great paint job.
Couldn't find the slaan-hound body I wanted for my squig-hound, so I'm now looking to use an old warhound body as the base.

@gits - thanks my recent work on my dreads and dreadlord, has clearly influenced this grot
@commissar - thanks!! they were going to be the arms, but after I cut the chainsaws of I saw them as legs
Oh and I exalted too, forgot about that button

Between the eye and the BANNER... just too cool for school!
Nice job on the OSL... really menacing. Which is good... grots and squigs need all the menacing we can get.

Post by: whalemusic360
That squig is great, and the wips are awe inspiring. Like I said, setting the bar. Remember guys, we can also ork up our names in the wiki, like Gits and myself have done.
34046

Thanks guys I'm really glad you like him so much!
We are definitely raising the bar. It is so awesome to be a part of something like this. Cannot wait to see what else comes up!

whalemusic360 wrote:Remember guys, we can also ork up our names in the wiki, like Gits and myself have done.
Did the best I could with only 3 letters
@Mr.Malevolent - I both congratulate you on the brilliance of the paintwork and curse anyone with the guts to try OSL and pull it off.
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
Yeah, I think a z on the end is about as far as you can go. Maybe a Da' in front? As in Da' Wibz? Idk.
Feel free to plug not just us, but Waaagh Dakka in general on any of the blogs or flgs's you may frequent. I think it's a really cool project, but some folks can't seem to grasp the concept.
34046
Post by: Mr.Malevolent
@ wib: Thank you for the kind words. OSL is definitely a pain. I cna try and make a tutorial if anyone is interested.
whalemusic360 wrote: I think it's a really cool project, but some folks can't seem to grasp the concept.
Yeah, some people find the "restrictiveness" of the project too much. I however had a blast making my squig! Wish I could make more for this haha
21162
Post by: 1-i
Ok, after I get done with this this real life project Im gonna go did around in my random pile of geek stuff because I think I have something that I can use for a squig and maybe even a grot. Guess what Im saying is that Im putting on a hat with hopes of tossing it into the ring soon.
32742
Post by: wib
Mr.Malevolent wrote:Yeah, some people find the "restrictiveness" of the project too much.
I can appreciate that, it was one of the reasons I was somewhat hesitant when I first saw it. Once I decided to do it I actually really enjoyed doing something different to my norm and, yeah, my only regret is I can't do another. Hell, I'm tempted to make a whole squad to go with mine now.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Actually you aren't the only one. You guys have been having so much fun with the grots and hounds that graven, WM and I are all very jealous and wish we could make grots ourselves.

26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
@1-i : Be really cool to have you on board 1-i. I've been really impressed with everyone's efforts so far. Fun, creative, wonky as heck... perfect for a grot mob!!
@insaniak: You know... you can always voluntarily demote yourself and join in the fun. Heck, graven, WM and I all demoted ourselves from Nobs to Boys so we could start this crazy mob...
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
1-i - Great to have you. We are actually full on Squigs (can only have 3), unless one we to change/drop. I think with your modeling, your grot would be a great and fitting addition!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Fatty, didnt forget you, once you get your pics on your sis's camera, I'll get em up there!
21162
Post by: 1-i
Well Im glad to here the squigs are full because what I though I had wasnt and so I couldnt do that but....
A grot could be done, I think I got a plan. Ok Im down for one cyber grot.

Post by: 1-i
Is there a deadline for completion, I ask only because I have completely murded the one grot that I actually had and since I now need to bug a buddy for a replacement I just to know how long I have to track him down. Considering its been about a year since I last saw him I have some concerns.
Also opions on what is better, MicroWAAAGGGH or ToshWAAAGGHH?

Post by: CommissarKhaine
Lovely Squig Mr. malevolent! He has a bit of a terminator feel to me, with the one glowing eye (as in the movie, not the guys in tactical dreadnought armour).
1-i: welcome

Post by: tipios
@Mr.Malevolent - Well!!!Thats awesome Nice glow, and the banner is tops
1-i - good luck with getting a grot I don't know if there is a deadline!!
22192

There is no deadline of any sorts as far as I can tell. That being said, we are working on some rewards for those that have their waaagh commitments finished, with more at certain milestones.

One minor nitpick: I feel the haft on the choppa is a tad long. Have you considered shortening it?

Fatty, did you get new pics, or is that just the one Gits fixed up?
And Finally, we now have some (really) basic fluff up for Da Konvertas. Make sure you check it out and let me know what you think.

And CommissarKhaine, that is awesome! I love the "spidery" legs
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
tipios, that is awesome man. The OSL is great, fantastic stuff.
That still looks great CK
Man, now I'm feeling my concept doesn't use enough parts
Rough, but it shows I have made a start -
Heads in place, and so is a rudimentary tail. Scales will be aded to the tail, possibly lengthening it slightly, and some filling needed on the head. Lost the spikes. Trying to find a good way to re-pose the legs, at the moment I'm thinking I might have one foot holding down a little grot/snotling.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I like it mt... just remember to cyber it up a bit before you're done.
9910
Post by: CommissarKhaine
tipios, Gitsplitta: Thanks! As for thge small bits: tweezers
RsJake: Thanks! That's why I love a big bitz box (hence the grot reaching out for some bitz ) I saw all those grabba legs and a spark went off
monkeytroll: Thanks! I like the start of your squighound, will he be getting mechanical or fleshy legs?

Well my first idea of a cyber grot isnt going to work out so well, try as I have I just cant get a grot to sit at a computer on such a small scale.
I have a fall back plan and while it may not be as humoroes its sure to give a chuckle.

21162
Post by: 1-i
Well now my idea of that is completely dead, glad to see it done
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
That grot is actually the guy who does all of the Konvertaz web updates and all... "whalemusic360" is just a manufactured pseudonym because he knows that as a grot... he can't start his own mob!
17244
Post by: The Good Green
SO... I've got a few wip pics of my grot on his helpa platform. Still pretty wip, but the base is almost done. Mostly it just needs wires. Then it's on to converting the grot. He won't get too much though. What do you think? Oh-yea! and there's a tool box I made a while ago that will hang from that hook.
33713
Post by: RSJake
That looks pretty sweet GG! Is it a gunner's nest or something for a Mek?
32676
Post by: Meph
Whatever it is, looks good!
17244
Post by: The Good Green
It's meant to be a sort of scaffold for the grot to reach and work on the top of a kan. I'm toying with the idea of a lifter arm or crane of sorts to help get the heavy bitz up there.
... Thanks!
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
That's seriously cool...
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
It has already been established (by Fatty) that the grot itself doesn't need to be personally cybered to fit the mob perfectly. I love the outside-the-box approach and the build is looking great! Way to go GG.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
I'm glad you two like it, as you are the herders your approval is most anticipated PS: the top of the platform still comes off too... so I can paint all those mushrooms.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Is that little white thing from a mechanical pen??? Looks familiar somehow.
33159
Post by: tipios
That is so cool!! Green
17244
Post by: The Good Green
The white gear thing is part of a toy car motor. It came from the same "engine block" that the black platform came from. I picked up a sack of the little plastic cars a while back and ripped all the engines apart. The cars themselves will be fun to convert as well.
Thanks Tipios.

Ok, time to let the cat out of the bag. Your fearless (if we have mob rule) leaders have decided that we would like to reward those in our mob. So, for every 11 members that finish up their respective entry, we will do a random drawing. The winners of the drawings will recieve......*drum roll* a 1 year DCM membership and a set of 6 Dakka Dakka Dice, normally reserved for DCMs and official Dakka functions! Remember, we will be doing this 3 times, so if you miss the 1st one, you will be included in 1 drawing, without a doubt. Just our way of thanking you guys for helping set the bar so high, spread awareness, and be part of the community! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and to be clear, the ones with "Done" after their names are the ones that will be entered in the 1st drawing (not the herders), so for those with the WIPs or still needing your final pics, best get them taken care of asap!

@Fatty good work on that lil guy
Since I didnt go with the laptop idea I went back the drawing board, I was working on a gretchin with an oversized power claw that he had to drag behind him. I didnt have the parts to make it work the way I wanted it so I moved passed the idea and have decided to do this
Need more ork stuff on the pack and I think goggles and a face bandana plus I still need to cyber him up. Possible a foot or leg from a necron cut to size.

We certainly are not doing it for the praise (though they are nice) or to try to draw in more people (which is also nice). Our mob, for whatever reason, has been by far the one that people have been drawn too. You guys are the ones that are setting the bar for the rest of Waaagh Dakka, and spreading the word on what it is (a community based project, with chances to meet new Dakkanauts) vs it just being an ego trip (Clearly I should be a Mega Armor Warboss).
So in short, its our thanks to you guys. Hopefully when you become a DCM you don't ditch us for Nob-hood

Hey, awesome work here so far. Especially loving Tipios's, that's an inspired piece there.
I was hoping to get in on this myself, and fatty recommended I check out the thread, so here I am. Thanks for that, btw.
My current idea is to have one cybork gretchin with a grot blasta built into his chest or attached to his shoulder standing in a 'menacing' pose with a second gretchin behind him actually aiming and firing. Is that kosher, or would having two gretchin on one base be too much?
My plans change by the week though, so who knows. Also considering doing a cybork cowboy grot. I have three grots coming in the mail, so I guess I've got some choices.
Lastly, if I sign up here do I still need to add myself to the article discussion list? Or is that just for people starting new mobs? Not really sure how that whole deal works.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Hey Zefig... be great to have you join us! I love your idea! Perfectly suitable... and an angle that no one else has tried yet. This is just our "internal" blog for everyone in our mob (though everyone's welcome to hang out of course). When you're finished here we'll add your pic to the Waaaagh Dakka article... but it might be worth your while to officially "sign in" over at the discussion thread as well. OH and Solar... fix your damn profession please... *sigh*
28688
Post by: Gathering Storm
I've made some progress on my "cybergrot" (which actually does not contain any Ork bitz). Oh, and I see the Cult is spreading. I feel like buying DCM status just so I can put a similar "Profession"
26790

Well GS, finish your grot and you may WIN your own DCM status... we're raffling off 3 and some dakka dice to the mob members that complete their projects!

Okay, look. I'm really sorry. But, you have to understand something. I SEE things, and I must make them. Sometimes, it works. Sometimes, it doesn't work.
I'm really sorry for any brain damage I'm about to cause.
"Wild" Boom Boltslinga was known for his Karnival of Killy, but things had taken a downturn, recently. Blame it on the economy, blame it on a season of slow toof growth, blame it on a never-ended series of Waaaaghs that had decimated the local Ork population. Whatever. So he needed something new. Something exciting. Something that would taps the very essence of bein' a Grot. And then, while out scrounging for parts, he saw a dead Squighound. And 'e knew, right then, what Grots needed. What Grots wanted. What Grots would pay hundreds of teef to ride.
A Mekanikal Squighound.
I'm so sorry.

Still alive here:
So we have an almost complete cyber-grot searching for the tiny 'akountant' model head that's just rolled off his work-top
Oh, no the robo-chicken's back!
And there's scales on the tail. Evolution in action before your very eyes.
Grot needs a bit of GS and some details on the arm, squig-hound needs some cleaning up, sticking together, decisions made on the top-side, and wires. Needs some wires, there's none yet, that's not natural.

Well... after making a meagre start on building my Grot last night... I have somehow ended up with two this morning... The Grot I had carefully planned: Grot-Monger (which is still quite a WiP) And, after finding some copper wire and a Gnoblar body... Dokta Oktogrot Now, I'm not sure which one I should make a member of Da Konvertas... While I spent much more time on Grot-Monger, Dok Grot was fun build. So, what do you think?

Monkeytroll, but they've already been doing that. It's their darn voices that made me build Dok Grot in the first place... I saw the gnoblar body and a little whisper in my head said "Build me! Build me..."

Nice job 1-i Looks just like all the shells are falling out as he lugs it about
Good idea GS, let 'em both loose
And posted from my blog (although a slightly different angle on the grot)
Grot needs some detailing, scrap needs weathering, hound needs pretty much everything apart from starting the hazards. That's a hole in the torso by the stripes, there's a bit of gear to be pinned there once the stripes are done. There's a few extras to add to the base to tie it in with me too.
Not sure of the hound's basic colour yet though, my 'usual' would be blue with orange scales, but I was thinking of changing that up for this guy. And if he was blue I'd probably want to switch that blue on the scrap metal. No biggie, but I'll use it Any thoughts?

Don't have my codex with me, but 10 grots+ 3 runtherds is perfectly legal IIRC; I've considered such a unit for anti-dread/ MC support, since three grabbasticks = three less attacks . But:two more grots, and we're legal! The grotz iz gonna be furst!

There was some confusion about that initially but I think it's been established by either consensus or by FAQ that it's 1 runtherd per 10 grots... so we have a long way to go to get to our full mob. I considered exactly the same thing (I have 3 herds w/ grabbasticks) but I don't think I can do it.

I've only read through the first 7 pages - but need to go to sleep - so I'll catch up on that later... I just wanted to say that I definitely want to be a part of this mob o' grots. This weekend's going to be a busy one for me, but I'll get a move on during the week! Excellent work so far everyone! Truly inspiring. It's great to look through your galleries as well and check out your other fine creations!

Chopper:Soul On Fire.
Classic 2000AD strip / Judge Dredd antagonist. Future surfer dude.

I got the chopper bit, but missed the soul of fire
Probably because I think I missed that particular strip somehow. I was trying to rack my memory for an incident of foot-burning in the early appearances as a scrawler

The plan is to have 3 drawings, even if we run out of steam before we hit the full mark. You will be included in at least 1 of them.

 Thank you!
I still haven't started painting, but my left hand should be well enough to hold a cork soon. Then I can start painting the bottom half and grot. I'll have to rig something to hold the upper portion of the platform while I paint it... the "helping hand" pincher thing should work... but I'm not sure how much it will damage the pegs that fit the thing together.
@RSJ: It's no bosspole, I promise It's actually a WHFB Elf lion spear with the ends cut off (in just the right places of course) But I did pick that bit because of it's similarities to the old bosspoles. Good eye.

Oh, ok, I see. I just happen to have several of those old poles. No idea where they came from! I never even HAD Orks back in the day! But I have a bunch of OOP Ork arms and shootas. The OOP arms a really weedy, might use them for grots, but the old Shootas will definately find thier way into my Ork army at some point!
You'll most likely be the 11th grot painted if you quit whining about your injured hand! Ha ha ha, just kidding.
But I won't have time to paint for at least a week. Going to go kill innocent Bambies for a week! Moar Dakka!

I'm thinking about making it a servo-toilet. The question is: rusty white, or tarnished gold (the golden throne)?
Also, i have some stuff called "e-z water" that just happens to be yellow...

Post by: Zefig
Oh DEFINITELY go gold on that. I shall be disappointed if you don't.
Although that would look kinda weird with the...yellow water. Maybe.

Then what about brown water?
Ooh! The seat should have the hazard stripes!
Also, can i prime it white? If I can't, I'll just use a black undercoat (I will also need to pick up some greens )

Brown water would work, and would be a great justification for putting hazard stripes on the seat.
In fact, I think every public toilet should have hazard stripes on the seat. Contact your local law-maker, kids!

that would be my disturbed mind....... not a good idea

So: i'm thinking about painting the hazard stripes consistently across the seat: as though there wasn't a hole in the middle. what do you think?

Post by: Zefig
That's how I'd do it too, personally.

Totally acceptable, as long as painted per the Guidelines on the OP (and its cyber-y, looks like it is though). Primer choice is up to you! I'll add ya to da list.

Cool, thanks! Are we using the scheme mentioned in the article for the skin? If so, I will be buying more paints soon.
Btw, it isn't quite "cyber-y," yet, but I will make it into a nice cyber-golden throne. I will enjoy adding servo arms, it is always great fun (especially with all of the gears I have from buying watches for steampunk stuff )

Yeah, the skin should be at least close to the one in the article. Look forward to seeing him cyber-ed up.
