This is my aim for Minecraft: To build a full sized titan with fully functioning weaponry. I did try, but it's impossible on my own, so this is where the power of community comes in.
I need YOU to come and help. For contributing, you will have your name added to the titan's legio banner and you will be given a rank in the titan legions.
Currently, I have taken the rank of Princeps and n0t_u/Iustis has been awarded the position of moderati. Anyone who wishes for a position, get involved and make a request. There will be 4 Moderati and a couple of Tech-Priests, so roll up, roll up!
I can help with the weaponry. My citadel nearby has two sets of twin-linked functioning cannons (one of them is aimed at your titan) and I have a fully-automatic snowball launcher mostly set up in the Nether.
Plus, I have a Skeleton-Grinder set up decently close to the surface right between our places. I've been AFKing there for hours.
If you give me dimensions, I can get a several drafts of weaponry built up in Minecraft's Creative Mode. Not sure what class of Titan you're going for, but if it's a Reaver, it should be rather intuitive. An arrow barrage can be the top-mounted Apocalypse Missile Launcher. An arrow-going-through-fire automatic gun could be a Titan Melta Cannon. A TNT-launcher could be a hard-to-reload Volcano Cannon or Quake Cannon (a bit out of fluff, but meh).
Could you make a TNT launcher that launches forward? Use Obsidian for the barrel, and a retractable piston igniter for the 'shell'? (so it's reusable, that is).
When you light TNT, it stops being a "block" and becomes an entity, thus it falls. If a TNT entity is inside water, it does not cause structural damage to blocks but the explosion can still cause damage to mobs, players, etc and will propel other entities (such as other lit TNT).
Long story short, if TNT explodes in water, it still acts normally without causing any damage to blocks.
Well, yeah. I know how a 'normal' TNT Cannon works. I was just wondering if you could make one that's more of a barrel instead of the trench that most are. Also, if you used Obsidian instead of the usual cobble-water thing, could you have a more compact design?
If you had a piston design for loading it...
What's the range on redstone torches for setting off tnt?
If it's adjacent only then it might work...
Though you would have to load a baffle to keep the mechanism from being fried...
It's great to have so much support already. The first thing we need to do is excavate an ampitheatre for the titan to stand in, as it would be too short if built on Y=65. As for a location, in between my house and Absolutionis' citadel is a large field where the prototype was built. That would be where I would start, but I am open to suggestions. Your names will be added to the first post so I know who I have working on it.
As for weapons, I was thinking an arrow gatling gun on one arm, tnt cannon on the other, snowball gatling gun on the torso, and a couple of arrow barrage weapons on the shoulders.
And as far as the titan's class is concerned, I reckon a Mars Pattern Imperator is the way to go.
if you put a repeater facing a block, you can transfer power through that block to the other side, this is the basis of the mega cobbler, so it can detect when the lava and water create a cobble block.
so it may be possible to use this to light an enclosed block of TNT, I haven't tried it.
And I'm not sure about having wool armour, but if we do, what colour? Raptors- Welcome, Moderati. It's being built near to my lair, next to absolutionis's citadel. -379, 65, -550 is in the flats where it should be.
n0t_u wrote:Why not red like that one in the picture? Other than that it'd be pretty limited in appearance without the wool. I guess could be obby.
Obbie could look really good, as well as being resiliant to creeper blasts.
Every titan leigon has its own paint scheme (I think) so ours could be Purple/Black.
Wool is fine. Black would be cool, so we could use obby, there is a nearby ravine with both lava and water if it is a help.
Other than that, a dark green would be a good fit.
We will have to set up a mine somewhere just for this project, so we can bring up enough material to build it.
Also, enchantments should help. If I remember correctly, their is one which speeds up mining times.
EDIT: Just got the lab co-ords from dark:
x: -2062
z: 1537
He said it is in the lower left of the map, just incase the co-ords are wrong. (From what I know of how the co-ords work, I think they are correct for lower left)
someone needs to start filling chests with gunpowder
I have about 3 double chests in sand i could donate to the cause, pending I dont need them to blow a hole in the earth for the palace of terra (I could relocate this project to near the titan if there's a ton of room)
I can provide a ton (literally, a ton) of gold to the cause as well however it makes gakky tools =/
Exactly. At first concentrate on just clearing the topsoil. TNT is unpredictable on dirt, but clears a nice 3x3x3 area of solid stone (and that is by far the most efficient way to use it- not in big blocks).
Once you get the topsoil, start going down in the center area to the depth you want, then go up from there in a staircase- best bet is to first dig a shaft of the rough size the Titan will need to stand on, then stairway out all four ways from that.
After that, it's just a matter of clearing the remaining filler. I suggest the quarry method, whereby you dig 1 wide trenches in a grid all across the area you need to clear- down to the proper depth all the way- then take out the 'columns' that are left one at a time.
I'd love to lend more assistance to the project, but school has decided to throw everything it's got at me.
I should be free by Wednesday. Until then feel free to take any tools (with the exception of diamond stuff) and stone blocks you need from my place near the 0,0 portal.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Next time anyone comes on, can we please try and enclose the chests. My stupid idea for putting them where they are failed.
Okay, where's this project? This is why we need a proper Address system. Or at least have everyone memorize important coordinates, or sticky the Map in a first post.
-379, 65, -550 is around that area. It's near to Absolutionis's Citadel, and the portal to get there is near to the arcadia portal.
Anyone with experience, please take a look at the grinder I built on the hill, it doesn't seem to work too well.
Please tell me you lot are going to be taking pictures during this project! I dont play Minecraft but its a cool game and I love looking at crazy projects people do in it! PICTURES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Naw, wont be joining on this old PC (I just found out its 10! 10!!!!!! holy gak!!) But tax season for us usually pays in mid/late February, and Im buying a new computer then. So maybe around late winter/early spring Ill pop up and stick an Ork glyph on the ass of your titan
This hole is only the primary. Once we reach bottom here, then we start tunnelling up and out- that way we know the base is the proppa size. This is an amphitheatre, after all, right?
Might need some help, eventually, with someone who can make circles.
Indeed it is. I just marked out an area which seemed reasonably large, but having seen the manor, I'm not sure how big it needs to be. How big is a titan's foot?
A hemispherical hole of radius 80 will be big enough and should give you a flat circle of radius 16...
Nope that isn't big enough...
This is impossible guys, sorry but it's literally impossible to make a hemispherical hole large enough without completely destroying an area at least three times the size of goodas hall.
Sea level is y=63 and if you dig down to y=8 you should get a nice flat plane on the bottom with no protruding pieces of bedrock, that's a Δy value of 55 to be dug out.
The skybox is at y=128 so from y=8 to y=128 gives a total titan heigh of 120, using this guide we can assume the build is either a warlord or a reaver. If it is a warlord then 1 inch=5 blocks and if we use a reaver then 1inch=7.5 blocks.
Looking at the diagram you can see that from foot to foot the reaver is just over half as wide as he is tall whereas the warlord is just under, from this I'll average the two and just say they tend to be half as wide and thus with a height of 120 blocks we need a base at least 60 wide. For the sake of aesthetics I'll add ten blocks either side of that for a circle of radius 40.
If you want a partial hemisphere that spans from y=128 to y=8 with a flat base of radius 40 the total radius of that sphere must be 41.
So (4/3)Ï€(41^3) gives the total sphere before you time it by 55/128 to give the ratio we need... and bamn that's 124130 cubic blocks that need removing, the optimal use of tnt removes 27 blocks so that's 4598 blocks of tnt or 72 stacks.
So to conclude, it is more practical than my initial observations suggested but still pretty infeasible to even dig that hole let alone build the titan.
Quick question. Have you seen the Mesa? That's what you can do with a single person (plus a little help) with stone tools. If we had three or four diggers, even without iron tools, we could get the entire thing in a very reasonable amount of time.
If we do, someone can stand there, afk, with an empty inventory to gather gunpowder while a couple of others dug up a desert.
That way, we get our tnt over time, and can begin to dig the hole. While this is being done, other people can be gathering materials for the titan itself.
That amount of tnt would require 10 inventories full of gunpowder and 8 inventories full of sand and is assuming that it is used in the most effective way (placed one at a time fully surrounded by blocks then detonated one at a time).
Alternatively it would use 940 stone picks (44 stacks of cobble, 3.7 stacks of logs).
Sod the maths!
If you think about something too much you kill it forever!
Rather than a hemispherical ampitheatre, I propose we use a cuboid on with stairs at one side only, preferably facing the Titan's head.
Quicker and easier by far.
Mesa is roughly a 60x60x4 room completely hollowed out (aside from the columns around the edge) with a diamond (diagonal to the room, but square. The corners of the pit are in the center of the walls) pit in the center going down with a slope of -1.
I don't care anyway. This project is intended to bring the Dakkadakka Minecraft community together and make people cooperate towards a common goal, not to build a perfect replica. So if you're going to keep being unsupportive, you can stay out of this thread.
corpsesarefun wrote:No need to be rude, I'm simply pointing out that at the current scale this is impractical.
Impractical, possibly.
Impossible, definitly not.
What you have just said was the same sort of thing I though when you first told me about the manor. But that has worked.
This may take a while, possibly more than a year even, but I am confident that we can do it. Minecraft is a sandbox building game, planning and executing massive projects is what makes it so fun/addictive.
There's another server I used to frequent. It was supposedly SMP, but creepers were nerfed, everyone had protections on everything (you couldn't even open doors without the proper permission) and nobody would help with anybody else's projects. Oh sure, they'd stop and watch, or maybe donate some materials, but when I try to build a railway system for rapid transit from one town to the next (each about 2000 blocks apart, and the Nether wasn't being used for that stuff) for the newbs, everyone was just like, "Phh. Why should we bother? They can just donate and get Warp commands like everyone else!"
On Dakka, I start the Mesa and ask for help, and get people that do indeed help me. Heck, even the Mod-Above-All helped me out in the start, escorting me to the initial location of the Mesa.
The Manor is absolutely massive, and the Nether Railway system is absolutely brilliant. Why not have a huge Titan to compliment it? Dakka the place up a little. I may copy Abso with some gun turrets on top of the Mesa's eventual towers, even.
And here's an idea. Only have the front area carved out- but instead of a big amphitheatre for people to gawk at the titan, make it like a work bay. The wall will be right behind it, with struts and walkways for 'maintenance', and in front will be a big ramp, as though it'll just walk out of it's hole when needed. That will be a lot less excavation, on the whole.

I agree with both of these points.
We should do it.
I am really annoyed with this titan now. I fell to my death, collected my stuff, fell to my death again, then the server restarted and I lost all of my stuff, so I went back to my old cabin to get all of my iron, and then fell to my death again.
Speaking of which, has anyone got some spare iron?
Trust me, if you mine, you'll find tons of iron. I know that I lost about a stack due to either a server crash, or not coming back on when my own minecraft crashed (due to me just being frustrated). But I'm already back up to about half a stack.
One thing about strip-mining, quarrying or excavating, is that you get a ridiculous amount of iron.
About 30 of those deaths are me.
My aim is to bind my soul to the pit, that I might possess the titan when it is completed and rampage around the server. All that death will saturate it, and I will become a part of Minecraft once and for all!
Oh i don't know...
You'd be surprised at how many people not only stock TnT but are also surprisingly handy with it...
That would stop any MC Ghosts...
small suggestion: until the pit is complete what ive allways done is made an overhead gantry that drops water near the edges, so if you fall you can make it to a water column to break your fall.
Good idea Grundz: I'd suggest that you take care of it, but... what with you being miles away...
That said, I did make it to yours for a visit very briefly, perhaps you could return the favour?
As for you, Purplefood... Obsidian Plating ftw!
Ever wondered where Herobrine kept coming from? That's someone who, like me, was bound to their game eternally from their deaths.
PM me coordinates of the project and i'll see what i can do this week, I did manage to clear a 900X900 X1-6 area for my temple of terra so far last week.
It's my patent-pending Cross and Column method, using crisscrossing trenches that go to the desired depth, creating a grid of 3x3 columns that are perfect for either one-man, minimal movement digging, or optimum TNT usage.
Has there been an established "class" or chassis of the titan yet?
A giant Warhound looks dynamically different than an Emperor.
I have several silly designs of weaponry, but then the Titan got a super-sized upgrade.
I'll provide the materials for the weapons myself; I have a decent store of redstone and such.
Either way, I'll head over to the quarry often when I need more cobble and coal which will be often.
Well, let's think about what weaponry could be created without mods.
Dispensers allow for rapid and barrage-style turrets, loaded with either Arrows, Snowballs, Eggs or Throw Potions (which can be Poison, of either long duration or high strength, Weakness, or Slow). Then you have TNT Cannon, of various descriptions- from near vertical launchers to near horizontal.
We could have captive Snow Golems as Machine Spirit turrets, and piston-powered Lava chutes.
A warhound would be easiest, but waaaaay small. I think an Emperor class is doable. And if anyone can get a hold of a 3d model of it, we can run it through binvox and viewvox to draw up exact plans for it.
Aside from simple size, there are drastic stylistic differences between the two.
The Emperor has cylinders for feet and large upper cathedrals that have to be accomodated for. The Warlord is basically the same style as an Emperor but smaller.
The Warhound and even a Reaver have no upper castle.
The Warhound has a "chicken leg" design where it's standing on its toes and the ball of the foot.
Princeps 4oursword needs to suggest which STC to use.
I believe we said Mars-Pattern Imperator, I put an image a few pages back.
For weapons, I believe that one TNT cannon on one arm, an arrow gatling gun on the other, an airburst arrow launcher (see ) on the carapace and a couple of snowball and arrow guns there too.
I don't like the idea of lava chutes though. You my be able to convince me otherwise.
Airburst might be annoying, but we could use dispensers to fire the arrows at the TNT before setting it off.
Snowmen would be too far off to do anything but stand about unless they were put in the ankles and feet. Lava chute maybe as a defense against creepers and such if they swarm at the feet. If anything these weapons are likely going to be for show and not how effective they are.
n0t_u wrote:Airburst might be annoying, but we could use dispensers to fire the arrows at the TNT before setting it off.
I could do this by using a glass clock, basically pistons will move a ring of blocks around, each pulse moves the clock, at a certain point a solid block gets moved where power can go through it and fires the cannon.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So this "plan"for mining the area seems to have no basis in reality
the whole area is a maze of pits and random blocks because any underground cave creates inpassable pits and islands of blocks you can't reach
nothing is cordined off, and at varying heights, if the whole grid was leveled one block at a time it would have worked great, but with some areas down to bedrock and some still at ground level there's millions of random deathpits.
i'm working on mining, but this is needlessly complicated
It makes sense. Granted, the sheer number of caves (and people just mining around willy nilly) has made it a little less perfect than it could be, but the system works.
Trenches are cut first. Then all you have are 3x3 columns. Those can easily be mined by a single person without needing to run around everywhere, or you can use TNT in the center to blast away. It's not layer by layer, but rather column by column. None of the columns are isolated, all can be reached through short jumps, and I'm doing my best to make certain none of the floaters stay around.
I understand the logic, but you can't quanitify like 90% of the digging in 4 words
what should happen is that you map out all the trenches, 1 block deep, and then everyone digs them evenly with a centeral point to climb down with a side tunnel and ladder or something. as people join up, they run around and cut the whole area down 1 block at a time, it seems like people just picked what spot they wanted and started digging pretty randomly.
this way you dont have half the area cut down 20 blocks, some of it randomly intersecting cut down all the way to bedrock, floating blocks all over the place, ect.
And I did start it out with even trenches, but had to adapt as everyone (with their diamond picks, so going too fast for me to really stop) started digging trenches one by one.
I started as well, basically just picking a high spot, and mining the entire area down 1 brick at a time, as it slowly lined up with other areas, i started mining those down as well so the area slowly expanded until I logged off
supply area is pretty much done, i'm going to make some beds for upstairs for everyone and it should be good to go
So you guys want a deep pit for the titan to stand in that goes all the way to bedrock, but have figured what the titan will look like? you could try building a scale model or have a reference picture in this post to get an idea of what it will look like.
Due to it's footprint being a square and it having two feet, the logical solution would be to have it face the desert near to the pit because of the pit's shape.
If this is going to be full-sized, I can run the interior designs. If not I can support exterior efforts. Is this going to be in a pit that resembles a titan-construction center? If so I can build surrounding machinery and assembly lines... .... ....Zombie-Servitors.......hmmmm
I like the idea of a manufactorium being near it with an assembly line creating "ammunition" and parts for it. Could use the elevator I posted a while back in the main thread to make the conveyor belt pushing it along with pistons along the way shaping it. Perhaps even a few so the conveyor belts could carry the stuff in stages and look more like it is building.
Apparently they can or could, information I'm looking at is from April but I have a dungeon nearby I can test it out on as I kind of want to move it anyway.
They could also work the same way as with the dragon egg and make it drop, but then you'd just get pigs. Either way I'll test it out now and get a first hand definitive answer.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I have had an epiphany for the floor of the pit- crafting tables. It looks quite ad-mechy.
We would have to use something else for the titan's footprint, though- it's hard to build on crafting tables.
Other options would be pistons with the piston side up, or furnaces (use up some of that Cobble)- though Furnaces could be nice for some rows on the walls around it.
To build that way, you mostly just need to put the stuff 'attached' to it down before the item itself.
Since when was it attacking the citadel? I always thought the Citadel was just there. Though the thing is, why not make that entire area a Manufactorum area?
There's issues with folks signing up to Dakka just for the Minecraft server- just stick around a while longer, make some posts- show everyone that you're at least interested in the Wargaming hobby, and not just for the server, and you'll get whitelisted soon.

I am to Dakka because I am starting an IG army, with it's own fluff, and I wanted to join the Wargaming community, I just found about the server while browsing the Video Game forums when the Fluff and General forums were going pretty slow.
Hey i would love to help. just need the co ords. also i lost all my stuff in sky slasher's cave :( so i would need to borrow stuf to use unless i find mine.
And hell, you probably destroyed some of the diamond through your reckless use of tnt.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Lookoing at the titan area, man, you guys who blew it up SUCK. If I were project manager I'd ban you from working on the project from this point on...
Don't be too hard on the fellas, they were trying to help.
Anyways, we need to finalize the style/color of the titan, it may be premature, but it is so we can be gettign the materials while the clean-up is in progress.
Go to Absolutionist's Portal through the Nether (It's near the Spawn and 0,0 portals), go up and out of his (or her, can never tell online) Citadel, and cross the bridge. It's in the big field on the short side of the citadel, near the ocean.
Not sure they just need the room to spawn. Also creeper kind of got me (it blew up missed me entirely) on the way out of the grinder. The only damage was to that elevator thing. I picked up what I could and put it into a chest there. The grinder itself is fine as it jumped off of the top of the entrance and followed me for a bit.
yeh we can all make it maybe? you guys help me build it and what not. i.e we make the hive cities and stuff, the sweres starships. WTV is needed... i was tired and didnt make it clear sorry
If darkinit can return the TNT that got stole from me I have 10 blocks of it and enough gunpoweder to make 5 more. I could use it to help with the pit.
We've got the pit cleared. Now we're just finishing the walls up, so it looks nice. I still think there should be either a giant ramp, or a huge elevator-style platform next to it.
And we need to determine what the titan will actually look like- I'd suggest using dirt to 'sketch' the shape and size of it before doing anything else.
Anvildude wrote:And we need to determine what the titan will actually look like- I'd suggest using dirt to 'sketch' the shape and size of it before doing anything else.
Agreed, once we have the shape done, we can work on the accutal materials we need for the proper, finished version.
I assume we are going for a detailed interior as well? At least for the command area.
50 blocks, or 50 stacks? Because we'll probably be using Obby for a lot on it. But again, use Wool and Dirt to build the basic titan first, before replacing it with the proper materials.

I thought of doing this with my big projects too, its too much of a pain in the ass, you are better off doing it properly once than improperly once and many of those materials will fall and not be recovered as you break and replace them.
I have almost a double chest of enderman balls for you guys too once the build starts, they DRAMATICALLY decrease the time it takes to build.

4oursword,
I'm terribly sorry but while looking at the signs on my shack I was attacked by a creeper. I repaired the wall but I can't remember what the signs said. I left replacement signs attached to the wall with an apology on them.
Gentlemen, I am ressurecting this thread
as those of you that have visited his awe-inspiring feet have seen, the project is underway at a new location
I need YOUR help, and it isnt even donations or supplies this time.
The way this titan is being constructed is first in creative mode using the full suite of mcedit and various other editors, then using that framework to build layered plans via minecraftstructureplanner.
The current status of the planning project is here:
As you can see, from the waist up, it is still in progress but the frame is there.
Anyone that wants to contribute, now is your chance.
I'm going to open this up for a few weeks, this is how this will work.
1. you PM me and let me know you want to do this, include your email address and when you want your 2-3 days, and what you are planning on doing.
2. I will email you a section of the titan, in creative mode
3. you add on whatever you want, insides to the legs, a command deck in the head, external "zazz" whatever.
4. after your 2-3 days are up, you email me back the world with some notes as to the changes you've made, I'll check it out, and then it goes to the next person on the list.
Afterwards I will combine the world(s) and resume construction of the titan.
There are no rules to this, besides:
1. don't make your world any bigger, i only have so much room to work with here kids
2. don't use diamond blocks or anything else nutso hard to find, try and stay with wool, stone, brick, ect.
3. you don't need to be a champion builder here, if you look at his pelvis area you'll see 2 wool bars that go to a "rim" underneath his waist area, thats some good detail and didn't take a world of time to do,
I'd actually be interested in helping out with that. It's right arm looks like something I could sink my teeth into, or even just the basic torso of it.
Goldarn it Grundz :( I want back into the server, I'll edit the title of the first post for you. I'm out of reach of MC at present, my computer's dead\ :(
