Forgive me for not getting things all nice and set up properly, yesterday was Valentine’s Day, so I didn’t have time to sit down and build a light box to take nice snappy pictures. Instead, that job fell to my cell phone’s camera, and my painting lamp. I’ll take better pictures later, but for now my impatience to DO something has forced my hand to put something up to share with everyone.
So here’s the first Infinity model I even painted, a Hassassin Fiday. This was before I settled on an army to paint, and I just found these cool models at my FLGS. I’ve had the book for a while… the art and fluff is so tuned to what I like that I bought the book without bothering to see that it was a miniature game. I just saw the art on the front, thumbed through it and thought, “I must own this.”
One of my better impulse buys.
I have a few other models that I’m going to paint up soon. The SAS guy who doesn’t take any crap, and some Yu-Jing model that just looked too cool to pass up. Truth be told I bought them for a cyberpunk game I was running to use as player models… but I think the game systems is getting it’s hooks in me. If anything, they’re fun and challenging to paint (sodamnsmall), and the later sculpts are just spectacular. I’m gonna have to find that Chimera boxed set…
So enough ranting, here’s my Hassassin. Forgive me, I’m also testing out how all the linking and the like works, so this might take a couple tries.
I didn’t spend as much time on him as I wanted to, as I pulled him out to paint while I was teaching my girlfriend and a buddy of mine how to paint, and there was drinking involved, so I needed to get him done before I did anything silly to the model. Just some basic colors and a quick dusting of snow, took my an hour to do.
I'm going to get the SAS chap based up and primed when I get home. Not sure if I can get around to painting him tonight, but if not I'll work on some assembly for what else I have sitting around.
I'm having a bit of issue with some of the Yu Jing models, simply because their arms are so tiny I'm finding it much easier to pin my thumb then their tiny shoulders. Might be time to snag some new model glue.
I like how you did the helmet on your hassassin a different color rather than following a standard theme for all the hard bits, it turned out a lot better than I expected. Kudos sir.
So I couldn’t resist the siren’s call of cool stuff, so I swung by the FLGS to pick up something else to paint. I was thinking another Haqqislam model, since I really dig their look, and low and behold I found one! The guy looks wicked, but little did I know…
More on that later.
I was also racking my brain to see if there was something I had thought cool while browsing online, and sure enough, after picking through the blisters I found Dr. McHatchet, prepped and ready to rescue his fellow luddite buddies from raging antipodes or withering PanO fire. Or survive a zombie apocalypse… damn this is a cool model! I didn’t even know he had a gasmask tied to his arm until I had the model in my hands… makes me wish there was one with it sculpted on.
I ended up having a lot more free time than I wanted last night, so I managed to get everyone together. On that note… what the hell Corvis. Al-Djabel… while an awesome model who I’m really looking forward to painting, that cool claw Viral CCW? Yeah, the four fingers are one separate bit. Thankfully the glue is holding pretty well, but that could change in a sneeze. I’m also finding they choose the most godawful places for the… what are the points where you pour the metal into the mold? Those things. The neck? Great place to put it, I’m going to be cleaning there anyway… but right on top of the dude’s noggin? How am I supposed to file something that is smaller than a tic-tac!?
Also, Dr. McHatchet’s (that’s his name now) axe is going to fall off all the time. I just need to accept this fact. It is just so incredibly tiny that I can’t find a place to pin it. Ah well, he’s still an awesome model.
Oh look, they’re together!
I’m going to get them primed at work, and then get started on them tonight! Not sure which one to start on though, hopefully I’ll figure it out by then…
Nice work! I notice you're from Baltimore! It's good to see another Baltimorean getting into Infinity! I take it you hang out at Games and Stuff? A friend of mine and I have been talking about getting into Infinity. I went ahead and bought some Haqqislam. We're trying to get some games going.
Yeah! Games and Stuff has a good selection of Infinity stuff, I try and stop by every now and then when I can. They're actually having an Infinity day this Saturday, I think it kicks off around noon, and it's supposed to run most of the evening. I work till four, and I don't have a full army yet, but I was hoping to stop by and maybe do a demo game and chat with some people.
We'll have to see, the 'rents are moving and because I didn't move far enough away when I left the nest they want my assistance over the weekend. But with proper motivation I'll try and get over there. I was told they have about fifteen or twenty folks that should be there, so that sounds promising!
In other news, I got my SAS chap painted up last night! I snapped some quick pictures, and I will eventually put up some better stuff once I have a lightbox/tent/whatever. For now I hope this can hold ya’ll over.
Pardon that they’re a tad fuzzy. It was getting on in the evening and my hands weren’t the steadiest. I had left the baklava the same blue as the rest of the spec-ops sweater (silly SAS), but I felt it was lacking a bit of something, so I added the skull to look cool… or maybe I’m getting Games Workshop withdrawal from painting minis that aren’t covered in skulls.
Either way I like the way it turned out.
I figure it’s a bit of homage to Ghost from Modern Warfare, because I was livid at the way they knocked him off. Now, in the future, he can live on! Muwahaha. It's a little muddled in the pics, but on the tabletop it looks pretty clean... I find the camera on my phone to be just good enough that I can't warrant purchasing a seperate camera for snapping pics of models. Eventually that may change, but for now my money goes towards buying more cool stuff to paint.
I just picked up some infinity mini's the other day and am really pleased with the style.I've only painted one (saito togan),but found the models beautiful. The S.A.S dude you have painted looks brilliant, consider me subbed.
Thanks chief. I'm one of those 'never paint it like the box' types, so I was trying really hard to figure out how to paint him up. I really wanted to do something bright anf flashy... but this guy is SAS! He's stealthy! He's urban! Grey it is! I figured the blue fit in with the scheme too.
I really was thinking of doing a paint scheme similar to the troops in Children of Men. I love the block-cam they use on the vehicles. But I think I'll reserve that for any armored troops I pick up for Ariadna.
Just a quick note, spent the weekend moving, so my painting stuff is all over the place... mainly I can't find my light. Hopefully I'll get my paint-booth set back up in a couple days and get back to it.
All GW paints really. A basecoat of Khemri Brown, out to Dheneb Stone, then a hair of Skull White. Wash it with a bit of Devlan Mud and it's pretty much done!
I managed to get all of my miniature stuff in one place, and with the help of a makeshift light, I can get back to painting again! I’d still like to find my other lights, but this one will do for now.
So I started on the one named Hassassin character… Hussein Al-Djabel, who I didn’t know was a special character when I bought him, I just thought he looked cool. This is fine, as at the moment I’m just painting whatever I come across, and I’ll work on assembling an army or three later.
So I just got some basecoats down last night, but it’ll give you a good idea on what the end result is going to be like…
I should have some more paint on him tonight. We’ll see how far I get!
Nice- you did that Fiday in under an hour? Damn, NOT FAIR!
I really like the results you get with the highlight-up-first-and-then-wash approach. I'm going to try that out for my YJ, who I've been basing/washing/then highlighting. The nice, fluid results you get with paint-then-wash are much better for cloth.
Do you take the same approach with hard armor, or would the wash being the final step make armor plates look -too- fluid?
I mix and match really. Sometimes you want that hard edge on the armor. Other times you want it to blend in with the rest of it. I still usually prefer to was everything at the end to blend it all in, and if I need to I'll pick out edges one final time.
The next Hassassin is done! I'll get pictures up tomorrow. I tried something different with his hand... and I'm not sure if I like it or not. I'll let ya'll judge me on that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I got home last night and buckled down to get that Haqqislam model completed, and so I did! Then I got back to playing Mass Effect 3.
I like the way the blue came out… though I must have used a different blue on the first Hassassin I did… he had more of a turquoise sort of look, while this one is a much richer blue. I like the way it looks, and I’ll probably do future ones like this, since I remember exactly how I did it. I must have been in one of those drunken savant painting modes when I was painting the Fiday. I hate it when that happens.
The examples for Al-Djabel show him with the green scheme going everywhere, including the viral CCW that he has (THE CLAW!). This is cool, and I think if I had’ve taken the blue scheme and applied it to the claw it would have looked really good and tied the model together.
Being different I decided to botch that one up.
So I went with an orange, trying to get a sort of glowing, hot-metal power-weapon sort of look going on. It came out… alright. I’m not sure if I like it or not. One thing is for certain, the pimp hand is strong with Al-Djabel.
I’ll get some more stuff on his base later. Likely some tufts of snow to match everything else. I run a sort of slushy, snowy, dirty cityfight table… so I like the fluffs of snow in with my cyberpunk. It’s a thing.
So for now, enjoy! Please lemme know what you think.
Looking pretty good there! - I would get some backgrounds and a rudimentary lightbox though it just helps the eye to concentrate on the model without all that visual distraction around it. Going to look at the other blog now
I have a lightbox on order. Along with some lights for the side and everything!
I never really thought my stuff was good enough to bother taking pics of it, but looking at everyone else's work got me motivated to put it up to share, regardless of how good I think it is.
So now I sort of justified the lightbox and everything. Hopefully my phone's camera will be alright for now, since I don't think I can convince myself to get a camera just for my minis.
Another great model, dude. Looking forward to seeing pictures in your new light box though. Your current pictures are much better than mine and i have a new 10megapixel thingymabob... i think.
Wow looks great, some really neat looking highlighting and I love the colour scheme you have used! Think the cream and blue complement each other nicely.
I think the hand looks good, the colour of it draws your attention (as I suppose it should do if it is something dangerous!)
I actually picked up some legit Haqqislam models so I can start building the force, two Ragiks and the Al Hawwa hacker. The Hacker looks like he's going to be a blast to paint, and Ragiks look like they are going to fall apart at any minute. The HMG guy particular had some arm-matching issues so I had to do a little (LOT) of gap-filling. Hopefully he'll look fine primed up.
The guy on the painting bench right now is my Axe Medic from Ariadna... because that guys is awesome. He's doing alright, but I'm not quite sure what color to do the helmet.
I gave him white shoulderpads, and a white helmet to try and tie that together. I was originally gonna put a cross or some other medic sort of logo on him, but the helmet is bugging me. I'll snap a photo when I get home tonight.
Yellow could work but might be a little 'too' much. I was trying to avoid some of the firefighter look.
A lot of my Ariadna guys are gonna have a Chardon Granite color for their armor, (highlighted a bit of course), so I'm thinking that might do well to tie him into the army, and also stop him from getting his head shot off.
Whelp! I finally sat down and started cranking out some painting over the weekend. Went and hunt out at the FLGS and painted while my buddy hobby’d and got a game of Warmachine in. He’s working on some Ariadna models, and they’re shaping up to be pretty awesome.
Heh… shape.
Yeah, that Chasseur is really really… she’s got some junk in the trunk, that’s for sure. I’ll snap a pic when she’s done.
I love these sculpts.
Anyway! So I knocked out the Axe Medic, who is really the ‘Emergency Service’ chap but he is forever known as Axe Medic to me. He’s not even part of my army, (Haqqislam), but he was just too cool to ignore. If I ever run a zombie game and need a mini, this is THE GUY.
Snaps are a little dark, but here he is.
So I’m pleased with how he came out. I wasn’t going to do the eyes, but my friend convinced me, and I’m glad I did. This model is damn small, and the cut of the helmet means you can barely see them, but when you have the right angle I think it looks pretty sharp. I’m not happy with the oxygen tank, but I’m not sure what else to do with it.
I also picked up a pair of Ragiks as well, along with an Al-Hawwa hacker and another Hassassin Fiday with a Boarding Shotgun.
And a PanO Hexas w/ Spitfire… because… because he looks AWESOME AND I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL!
Damn shift key.
In other news, thank God for Liquid Green Stuff. Seriously. I’ve had to gap-fill so many of these models it’s bonkers. The Ragik with HMG needed it. The Hassassin Fiday needed it, and the Hexas SUPER needed it. The cloak comes with an extra bit that glues on to make it look all ‘flowing’ and whatnot, but the gap it creates is incredibly unsightly. But paint on some LGS and BAM, smooooth. So the Ragiks I got primed and started on. The other three I got cleaned up and based, so I’ll get to them once I get these drop troops all squared away. They’re still WIP, but I figured I’d drop some shots anyway.
And a shot of them with Al-Djaballa’ (that’s his new name).
For those of you paying close attention, the Ragik with the HMG has an Effed up wing. It came like that, but it didn’t bother me so much. I’m going to scorch it up when he’s done and make it look like someone caught him with a lucky round when he was dropping in or something.
I’m really looking forward to painting the Al-Hawwa. Except that his arms are all across his body and whatnot… not the best for painting. I can’t see painting Infinity Models THEN assembling like some people do with 40K. The gaps that tend to pop up are just crazy. Maybe I’m just bad at assembly or something.
Yeah, I broke out the yellow and stared at if for a while, but when I asked my Ex (art student) what she thought, she said to try and match the camo-stripes instead.
It turned out pretty well I think.
Until I dropped the model when he was 95% done and chipped a huge chunk out of his helmet and bent the axe.

Haha right, think you may have just prompted me to pick up one of those myself! Lovely paint job again, really neat highlighting with the grey on the legs!
Wonderful work, I think the blue and cream not only goes together so well, but it suits the Haqqislam perhaps even better than the standard colours.
Love the Rasiq that's probably one of the best versions I have seen of it.
Thanks chief. I'd love to take some photos of them on that gorgeous table of yours!
Can't wait to see what else you get done for your stuff as well. Yours was the first Infinity blog I started following on Dakka and it really helped kick me into gear to get painting.
Probably going to be a couple of days before I get a chance to get anymore painting done, but when I do I'll make sure to complete the Ragiks!
@ TwoSpartan - Thanks man, I wasn't sure how it was going to come out at first, and it looks like it was a good call now.
@Remi - I know right! I'm glad you like the schemes. I'm not a great painter but I like the think I at least have color theory in the bag.
My biggest problem when painting Infinity minis is striking the balance between the brilliant colors and realism. Part of me wants to make them look like the Ultra-badass spec-ops people they are... but let's be honest, painting everything black all the time would get pretty old. I feel my Ariadna models are going to be my outlet for realism... sorta. They'll have the camo and the muted schemes (sometimes), and I'll let the cyberpunk people have the bright awesome colors.
I'm definitely looking forward to getting some Loup Garous and doing a Jagdpattern on their coats like Dr. McHatchet.
Well I broke down and ordered a glut of Haqqislam stuff. I bought whatever I could from my FLGS, but they just didn't have all the models I was looking for.
It sucks I couldn't find the Hassassin Lasiq with Viral Sniper anywhere by herself, but she comes in the Hassassin starter, and I could use a couple of the models in there.
Also found the other Muyib pack with the chick with the Spitfire. She looks amazing, and is definitely going in the list.
I'm thinking of running the Hassassin Sectorial... but I'm debating if it's a good idea to skip on the ultra-light cheap infantry. If I run nothing but Hassassins, I'm going to have low model count, but everyone is gonna create orders... so that's cool. But everyone in the army is at least 30 to 35 points... hmmm... I mean that's 3 cheap infantry right there!
I've always run things thematically instead of 'to win'. But that's part of the reason I lose all the time. I guess I'm just gonna have to see how it goes.
I finished both of my Ragiks... those are those jetpack guys. And I'm pretty happy with them.
I also completed my Al'Hawwa Hacker that I'm using as an Engineer. I love the way he turned out, so I'm going to try and take pictures of them tonight.
If I'm feeling up to it (had four teeth extracted yesterday), I might try and get some painting done tonight. I have a Hassassin Farzan, two Muyibs, a Nomad Prowler with Spitfire and a PanO Hexas with Spitfire (see a trend here) that are all primed and begging for paint.

EGADS man!! I'm guessing you're NOT at work today. Hope you feel better soon, (and provide us with picture updates).
So I snapped some pics of the chaps I completed over the weekend. I have both the Ragiks done, and the Al’Hawwa Hacker, and I’m really happy with the Hacker. I like the Ragiks too, but I think I need to do something with the visors to make them stand out. Right now they’re looking a little plain.
So here are these two…
Then the Hacker. The lens didn’t want to focus on his little cape thingy. I was debating between painting it up bright and obnoxious in a checker-pattern like a shamog… or however that’s spelled, but decided on a bit of pointless camo instead. I’m rather happy with the hair too.
And then what I was working on last night, the Farzan. He’s like a Hassassin Uber-vet, who’s supposed to watch over the team and make sure the younger lieutenants don’t screw things up. He’s not a really powerful model or anything, it’s just a really cool concept to me that there’s this guy doin’ his own thing out in the field keeping an eye on thing. Maybe taking out a target here and there. You can either use him as a Forward Observer, or use this ability call ‘Chain of Command’. That basically means if the mission goes to Hell and you lose your Lieutenant, he automatically takes over the mission. Zero fuss. That’s pretty awesome. He’s a lot darker in color scheme than the others, since for some reason instead of wearing armor he’s wearing a bajillion straps and belts… he’s been somethin’ to paint for sure.
What I have so far…
He should be done tonight, then onto the Muyibs! I’m really looking forward to painting them.
Thanks guys, soon I might actually have a full army done up!
I'm having a lot of fun with these guys. Even when sticking to a uniform sort of color scheme, I find they all develop personality as I'm painting them.
I can't wait to get the completed force on the table and play a couple games... though I should probably matte varnish them first.
Oh the Farzan will get the blue treatment, he's only about halfway done.
He'll get a gold visor too, but I'm thinking I need to do something else to the visors to make them stand out. Right now they're just gold... and thats it.
@CDK - You have some good looking stuff too chief. Looking forward to it getting done.
True to my word, I got the Old Man done. He actually turned out a lot more muted than I expected. I picked out all the little buckles and snaps, or at least a majority of them, and they’re still sorta hard to see. I know I painted them, so that’s all that matters to me.
I think he turned out alright. I may bring out the shotgun to a shade lighter on the tan. As much as I want to paint the guns in different colors, it makes more sense for them to match the same shade as their armors to me. And I think it blends a sort of uniformity to the model, as well as implying the weapon is a tool, and the soldier is the weapon.
Or something.
Anywhere, here’s the shots. Just snapped em’ quick after he dried, so sorry about the lighting.
So I’ll start the Muyibs when I get home tonight. I’ve been looking forward to painting them… but they are covered in so much STUFF. They’re going to be a challenge, but it should be fun.
He looks good, nice selection of colors and nice crisp clean painting. I really like how you have managed to paint all the detail without making the fig look too busy or overloaded with conflicting colors.
@Metsuri - Thanks chief, he looks a good deal better in person, as the lights sort of wash him out. All the buckles and snaps were a royal pain. I think I need new glasses before I really get cranking on the Muyibs, they're just as bad.
@Seb - Thanks! I like clean looking lines. And the models lend themselves well to bright smooth colors.
I gotta echo the rest and what I said before- the color scheme is awesome, and I think the gold visor is totally on the mark. The flyer guy looks pretty damn wicked. (and the gun he carries vaguely reminds me of a Mantis/Viper sniper rifle )
Seeing as how I know nothing about this game, how big do the armies/teams get? 10 models? 20?
Keep them coming, and looking forward to a full-team shot!
Some really nice depth you have in your colours. Very nice models in terms of colour scheme. The gold visors look excellent with the blue and tan armour.
@Remi - Thanks, I'm definitely looking forward to a shot of them as a group on a table. A full squad at... say 300 points (the points total most games are played) is around 8-12 models on average. I tend to have a lot of troops in the high twenties, low thirties in points cost... so I'm not going to have a ton of models.
@SilverMk2 - I'm glad everyone likes the paint scheme! I was pretty happy with the color choice. I just need to make sure I don't paint everyone else the exact same way.
Well I've been working on stuff, I just can't post it because it's for the painting comp!
Blast!
I got an e-mail from CMON yesterday, saying they refunded like... half my money. They didn't say why, they just sent me a bunch of money back. I guess they don't like money or something.
I contacted them, and it turns out something I ordered was out of stock, so their policy is to refund you if it's out of stock. Swell, I ordered the stuff on the 10th, and you're JUST NOW telling me that it's out of stock... after the other stuff has shipped (a week later). And then don't tell me what it is that isn't in stock.
So now I just... get to wait and see what I'm not getting in the mail?
Maaan... I saw that competition too... the prize is pretty sweet, I gotta admit. That's a fair amount of models you could purchase from them if you won...
This is the first painting comp I'm taking part in, so I'm all sorts of motivated.
Not sure if I can compete with some of the heavy hitters around here, but I'll definitely be giving it a go. Got a new model for it and everything.
Awesome. Your stuff is good and will definitely put on a show against the other competitors.
I was going to say, if you didn't pick up the guy yet, get a "character model", as the time you're bound to spend on the mini will be much greater compared to a standard. But either way, your "standard" is already pretty damn good, so no worries!
Thanks chief, the vote of confidence is nice. I purchased a chap just for the comp, and though I won't say who or what it is, I'm pretty excited to paint it. Hopefully I can do the model justice.
I agree the two most important things in this kind of comp are proper pics and a good mini. Happy to see you guys also going for the competition, more good entries for the competition.
I'm going to unapologetically plug The War Store now.
If you're in the US, buy from them. Period.
They're quick, friendly, and fast. And they're prices are solid. I like to buy stuff at my FLGS whenever possible, but they had the Maghariba Guard for like 55 bucks... and I just got it for 38.
And it showed up the next day.
They are going to get a lot more of my money now. I am an impressed customer.

Interesting. I'll be checking it out for future purchase (read- Mass Effect Kill Team) opportunities. Any new progress on your gang/army? In a somewhat unrelated note, I think you'll be happy to know that my Shepard went flying your Infinity colors- tan/cream and blue. I have NO idea what happened in that ending, but he looked dead sexy biotic-explosion-ing the battlefield with Liara and Garrus.
Yeeeeeeah, so about posting these this morning. Whoops!
Well eventually is better than never right?
So here’s my horde of projects I really need to get to painting. Some of them need to be primed, bit my primer ran out so I need to go get more. Let’s hope GW hasn’t changed their formula for the three hundreth time… I really liked their last one.
So the random stuff first…
A Hexas with a Spitfire! … yeah, why wouldn’t I buy this guy. He’s awesome.
A Prowler with a Spitfire! If you can see a pattern developing here, it’s that Chem loves Spitfires. And this is a sweet model.
A Hassassin Muyib… with a Spitfire! At least this is for my army.
Another Muyib with a DEP… one of those cool, “I don’t give a ****” models that are just awesome. Love the sculpt.
The two other Muyibs, just your basic rifle guys. One with a LGL and the other with a Lshotty, both look about the same. Still cool models.
And check these guys out! Aren’t they adorable little death machines. I’m running them both as Shihabs, since those things wreck. My problem is they come with these really loooooong two toed feet. I mean really long. I didn’t bother putting them on, because I think nimble little remotes balancing on hooves is way cooler… and that’s actually how I thought they were supposed to be anyway. I initially thought the extra toes were antennae… whoops.
She was a must. I just want to paint her. I’ll figure out some use for her later… maybe take the place of the Lasiq Sniper because you can’t buy those damn things anywhere.
Did I mention I got the Mag? I’m both incredibly excited and terrified to paint this. I hope the blue and tan looks good on it… though I might go darker, we’ll have to see. It’s just so sexy in black.
Here’s a shot of it with the Gunbunny that my lady-friend painted up. Not too bad for her first model!
Alrighty… so that’s all the stuff on my to-do list. So it looks like I’m going to be busy for a while. Can’t say I’m complaining, since these models just ooze awesome.

Mate of mine calls them his "Death chickens".
The Marg. guard is a hefty chunk of metal, too. Looks good when painted up though.
Nice.. never knew you worked with a black primer. I always assumed you started with white, with the vibrant colors n all... Looking forward to more of your tan/blue/gold guys. They look great!
Yeah, it seems crazy, but I always start from black. It really raises some eyebrows for some reason.
Guess it will raise even more eyebrows for the paint comp too. *chuckles*
I've had bad experiences priming white. To me it seemed it was way more likely to 'fuzz' than black primer, and after a few bad Blood Angel incidents, I swore it was nothing but Black from then on.
So yeah... everything I've painted has been out from a Black Prime. Foundation paints are amazing and I love them, so they are the reason for the bright colors.
That and Enchanted Blue... it is a miraculous color and I love it. You won't get a more vibrant blue paint in my opinion, GW really got it right with that color.
So! Another weekend spent working on my painting comp model, so I don’t really have much to show for ze blog. Instead, I started practicing taking pictures with my new box, and though I’m still not happy with the lamps… the results are generally fun.
So here’s some spiffy Ariadna models that a friend of mine has been painting to keep ya’ll happy.
I’ll let you guess which one is my favorite.
They turned out a tad on the dark side, but then his stuff is painted extra dark anyway. Some people do so love the Devlan Mud really hard. He’s pretty good with a brush, the little details, and I always like the little scribbles he does for ‘front facing’ on his bases.
Any comments and critiques I’ll pass along to him for sure. Or I’ll kick him in the arse to get him on Dakka. But nerds can be lazy. I should know.
So I cranked out my Muyibs finally, took a good bit of work, and they’re the first group of Infinity minis that I batch-painted. Still, I hardly call four minis ‘batch painting’.
So let’s see… your basic gunner, good looking chap. I was going to paint the lizard on the rock, but I figure it’s a chameleon. I can go back and paint it later if I want. It has two tails, and that’s cool.
Here’s my gamewinner… the Grenade Launcher has pulled my ass out of the fire a couple of times, and this guy is pretty tough.
But not as tough as this guy. It’s all about stance… and this guy has it. I love this model.
And then the femme of the group. I had a little but of fun with her, since she’s pretty much carrying the most lethal weapon out of the team. The haircolor I waffled about for a while, but for some reason decided on bright green. This is a sort of anime world, I can get away with this stuff.
I am physically incapable of painting something 'how it's supposed to be painted'. I always look to studio models for inspiration, but I find that painting things in a color scheme of my own really lets me have fun and makes everyone else doubletake.
There's a guy at the game store that has his Haqqislam painted up in maroon and white... really cartoony with sharp black recesses and everything for extreme contrast. They look really damn cool.
Post your stuff! I always like to see what everyone else is working on!
And thanks for the kind words. I'm gonna have a group shot later this week when I set up the lightbox again, by then I should have a few more models done as well. I just finished a remote over the weekend, so I'll post that up sometime today.
Waiting for the DakkaDakka/Infinity painting competition to finish before I start my P&M blog and start uploading pics... but it will happen! Definitely not done like the studio models, but now that I have the rulebooks I think I may be changing tack a bit...
Thanks Arakasi! I should have some more stuff up soon..
Like now!
I don’t have a name for him yet, but he was a fun little number to paint. I’m going to do some little design or logo on his fuselage, but I haven’t figured out what yet. The second Remote my ladyfriend is supposed to paint, so I dunno when that will be done.
The remote was surprisingly fast and easy to paint. I’m usually scared to death of smooth surfaces, but this wasn’t bad at all. It was just small enough where working out the brushstrokes wasn’t a major chore.
Yeah, I’m looking at you Maghariba.
But it’s nice and clean, and carries over the colorscheme very well, so I’m happy with it.
So without further ado, the remote!
The ladyfriend calls them Gunbunnies… and I’m totally okay with this.
weetyskemian44 wrote:OOO the gunbunnies are just brilliant. One day I think I need to get some of those.
I liked the STFU on the bazooka!
Thanks! I definitely wanted to do something on the DEP (that's the fancy name for the Bazooka thing he's carrying)... and I eventually flipped a coin between STFU and GTFO... though I was tempted to paint SPNKR on it like the Rocket Launcher from HALO.
Still, with that guy's stance, he needed a bit of fun to go with his badass attitude.
I’m determined to trudge along stoically painting while the rest of you finish up your awesome Painting Comp models. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve been painting this regularly, and I think I have both Infinity and you guys to thank for this.
So thanks all!
Here’s my latest Haqqislam model, the Djanbazan sniper. As you can see, the color scheme has adjusted a bit. For my fluff, there are a few ‘elite’ models in my teams that work for my illegal Silk trader, and these guys get the dark color scheme. I was originally going to go black and blue… like my terminator over in my 40 Gallery, but I like the look of the dark grey instead. I may go with something other than the orange for the computer tool on his arm, but for now I think it looks okay.
I tried to paint the facemask that sort of bone look, as they have good lines to have that sinister sort of style. I think the scheme will make a lot more sense if I can get one standing up, rather than the guy all tucked up cuddling his sniper rifle.
That’s still an awesome pose though, really cool style.
Oh! And here he is…
Next up, some Naffatun! Maybe even done by tonight!
I also have some Ariadna models on order, so I can start getting started on my next little group of spec-ops badasses. Also Traktor Muls… I haven’t seen anyone with those yet, so they will be fun to paint up.
Very very nice
I really love your colors
And he is really clean
It looks a bit like the colors I wanted...But mine came out darker than expected Guess I'll use your work as an inspiration =P
Fair enough. I'll just run down the colors rightquick anyway.
This is using GW paints, and I still have all the old colors, so I don't know what these translate to in the new ones... but I'm sure someone can figure it out.
The Grey is just Adeptus Battlegrey basecoat, then a heavy wash of Badab Black, and then a re-highlight of Adeptus Battlegrey.
The blues start out as Mordian Blue, then a good heavy dose of Enchanted Blue. Then I do a 60/40 mix of Enchanted Blue and Ice Blue... that number may not be exact, but I have more Enchanted than Ice in the mix.
Sometimes I wash the blue with Asurmen Blue... but not always. A lot of the times I like the bright look, and it really doesn't need much help from the wash to tie it all together.
I love how you Adeptus battlegrey turned out.
How did you manage to have it so bright ?
I use Codex grey for highlights but it doesn't even look as bright haha
I have no idea, I don't think it's any brighter, but after you really wash the first layer, the second layer of the pure grey has a lot more contrast to it, and that gives you that slightly brighter look.
For an example of lots of different greys, you can look at the gun he's using. That goes from Adeptus Battlegrey to Codex to Fortress Grey, then gets washed again to blend everything together. I like how it looks for metals and guns for sure.
I'm definitely going with a dark grey/bright orange color scheme for my ALEPH when I start them eventually. I have a Marut to paint, but I'm not going near an ALEPH army until I get my Ariadna complete. My Haqqislam is nearing completion... so it's time to start branching out into my next project!
It's going to be awesome having a fully painted army, that's for sure.
So I decided to stay up late and get the Maghariba done. It is simple proof that if large flat surfaces are involved, Chem chokes and forgets how to paint.
It looks… okay. The wash didn’t turn out how I hoped, and I think I blame using the new ‘almost Devlan mud’ wash rather than finishing up the bottle I had. Seems a little more red than before, but it also blotched up a lot more.
I should have drybrushed it in Dheneb Stone and then give it a second light wash to kill that effect, but I figured that out after I was too far along. Ah well.
So, tell me what you think, and more importantly, tell me what I could do better. I don’t know if I’m going to keep him the way he is or throw him back in the dip after flogging myself for a week.
I dunno. I think my camo stripes might need to be brighter or darker... when I washed the model it turned them almost the same color as the body of the machine.
I have some pretty gaudy highlights on the blue for the legs, but I'm worried if I do any edge-highlighting on the body it'll look out of place.
The skull I'm still iffy about. I thought it was a cool idea at the time. And it adds to the model, but I dunno if I like that specific look... I'm just bad at freehanding though.
Wow... haven't been back in a while. The Maghariba (I'm guessing that's the 6-legged tank of dead-sexiness) is looking pretty good. I was going to say-
1st shot- don't like the color. But I now realize it's the lighting. Skip that.
I would have to say the skull doesn't fit, as badass as it looks. Your team right now reeks of "professional kill squad". The skull is more "marauder/pirate"... something. Cool, for sure and awesome freehand.
As for the lightning bolts... darker? Or two-tone? The lightning bolts look good as is, but maybe another shape of a slightly different hue from the base color and the darker bolts?
And one last thing- question: Is that walker-tank part of the Infinity model range?
Looking real good- also your sniper elite with the alternate blue-focus color scheme. Keep 'em coming!
Yeah, I like having stuff on my vehicles and machines. If I ditch the skull I'll probably paint the canopy some flat color.
And yes, the Maghariba is an Infinity model. Probably one of my favorites, which just irritates me all the more that I can't paint the darn thing properly.
The Jagdpattern camo was originally Khemri-Brown pattern over the brighter Dheneb Stone, so there was a nice bright contrast. After washing it all blended together.
Maybe I should swap it out and make the striping brighter than the main body, rather than darker. I can bang that out in less than thirty minutes when I get home... think I should do it? Or try something else?
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Yeah, I like having stuff on my vehicles and machines. If I ditch the skull I'll probably paint the canopy some flat color.

For sure- the decals and stuff "finish" models. (which sadly, much of my collection lacks). Perhaps more tech-military pattern decals and such would be more appropriate? I actually like the metallic- it helps mesh it with the rest of your group.
LOL... you have a color program on your comp? take a picture, modify the the strips for dark bolts/light bolts scenarios and choose from there? I've done repaints. I hate them.
No color program. I do everything through my phone. And at the moment I'm at work.
I wouldn't be able to photoshop my way out of a paper bag anyway.
Getting the gold for the canopy smooth has proven to be nearly impossible. It loves showing brushstrokes, another reason for the skull added to it. My original plan was to do a Warthog sort of look with the mouth and teeth painted on the front... cause that I can make look good.

LOL, then you and I are in the same boat, friend. I was hoping you'd be a bit more fortunate than me.
And that sucks about the brush strokes... hmm... I tend to use an airbrush and super-watered down paint layers... not sure how to get out of this type of problem. Sorry.
... at the same time, this "warthog" talk intrigues me... wish I could be more help, but looking forward to the final product!
I might give that a go. The Mag definitely has the face for it. And I like drawing teeth on things.
I always love mech pilots. I imagine them tough and confident, and they love to have custom stuff on their machines that make them stand out and make them their own. So nose art, funky paint schemes, kill markings... all of that stuff is awesome to me, and I want to inlcude it where I can.
Though the gold ties the model in with my others, if I do the warpaint on the nose I'm going to have to get rid of it, as I think it will just distract from the rest of the model.
Won't know till I get home! And I may distract myself with some other projects rather than getting right back into that monster.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well now I’m in trouble.
My drop pod of stuff from The Warstore showed up. Two orders I had made both appeared at the same time.
So this was waiting for me when I got back from lunch.
Yeah, it's actually Chardon Granite. When I did the jags initially, I did them in Chardon Granite, then I went back and filled them in with Khemri Brown, leaving an edge of the Granite all around it.
It's a lot faster and easier than trying to paint on jags and then outlining them later.
So I got home, broke open my many packs of stuff, and got right to assembly.
A few hours of cutting, filing, and LGS later, I had myself an almost full Ariadna army, along with some bolstering forces for my Haqqislam.
If you’re wondering why The Warstore is out of Ariadna stuff… well… sorry.
As you can see, I’m going to be pretty busy in the painting department for a while. Should get everything primed up tonight, probably do the bases, and then go play some Minecraft. I have ALL day Saturday to get some painting done, so I’ll probably take one of the Line Kazaks and use him as a test monkey for my paint schemes. I was going with dark blues and greys for my SAS guy and Emergency Service guy… but I already have a lot of blue in my Haqqislam. The Ariadna forces are a good bit more disorganized though… at least when it comes to uniforms and stuff, so I might take some liberties and bounce around with different colors, while still maintaining a theme to tie them all together.
I’m thinking about Chardon Granite, or some other dark grey/brown for all of the armor bits, and then doing other accent colors for everything else. I want them to be dark, and really play up the camouflage aspect of the army… but not too much, I like things to be bright and clean…
Hmm…
It’ll be different, that’s for sure.
As for pics, here’s what I accomplished last night…
Yeah I'd have to stop being afraid to paint Infinity models first =P
And you're the one stopping me to do so =P
I already know your models will look better anyway haha
Hopefully with time I'll get better =)
Automatically Appended Next Post: And you could also choose different factions !
After Haqqislam and Ariadna, don't give Yu Jing a try please =P
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Says the guy with the fully painted army. Your stuff looks good CDK, don't sell yourself short.
Fully painted?! What you talkin bout Willis! (the old guys will understand that) The few that are painted is maybe a quarter of what I have of Yu Jing. And so far I've only competed 3 of my combined. (Which reminds me I need to take pics of my completed Skiavoro.) At least with 40k I could spray most of the stuff I did lol. But I must say you have inspired me to get more done for sure. I love that Magriba. It makes me want to do my Guija finally. Of course now that I have him build I want o convert him a little :( oh well.
Well in all seriousness, I'm not the greatest painter ever. A lot of the stuff I do is just simple tricks and good color choice. If I can give any advice, I'll be glad to help you out. The only way I got better was to buckle down and start painting, and then keep trying new things.
As you can see by my Maghariba, I still have a lot to learn.
And don't worry, I'll probably skip Yu-Jing for now. I'm thinking I'll either do Nomads or PanO after my Ariadna are all finished up... but we'll see!
Automatically Appended Next Post: @CDK - Well you know what I mean! You have an army profile up and all, you have a bunch of painted Yu-Jing... I'd call that a painted army!
The key things I found with Infinity figs is to thin the paints and take your time! Take the time you would use to paint a squad into that one figure. There is no need to rush. And thining the paints and doing layer on layer will help keep the great detail.
Glad people like the Maghariba. I think I'm going to hold off on doing any drastic redesigns to it at the moment. I have too much stuff that is unpainted to sit and worry about repainting things.
I think that's a good policy to have on that sort of stuff.
I'm loving that Maghariba. I think the camo and skull work nicely on it. Some warning symbols from an aircraft transfer sheet would look good.
Washes are a pain in the backside on large flat areas as you've discovered. In the case of vehicles I've found it more effective to sponge on some variations of colour instead and let weathering powders and chipping do most of the work to shade things. If you do want washes, there are two tips that make it easier to use on larger surfaces.
1) Put down a layer of gloss varnish first - This gives the washes less to cling to, which means you've got more control getting it to pool in the recesses, rather than creating pools in the middle of your nice flat area.
2) Mix a bit of gloss varnish into the wash before painting it on - This lengthens the drying time of the wash and allows you to move it about more easily. You've even got time to use a wet brush to remove some bits of wash that you don't want.
So, now that everyone is in a tizzy over the painting competition, time to get back to working on other stuff right?
Ha… never stopped.
I have to say, I’m really bummed out about the Painting Comp. It was fun painting up a model for it and all, but I really felt like I had a chance at winning it for once. Then I woke up this morning and checked the entries, and the bottom dropped out. People did some really amazing work, and there’s some legit stuff in there. I’m just not on that level, at all. Oh well, what am I going to do? Stop painting? Meh, live and learn.
Anyway, I did some work over the weekend, plugging away at my new Ariadna forces. I changed my paintscheme, because Von Skyfury discovered the chip I implanted in his brain that steals all of his ideas for painting. So I had to be original for once.
So rather than blue, I went for Red. So far, I really like it.
I knocked out the 3 Line Kazaks over the weekend, and I’m almost done one of the Chasseurs and the two Metros I have. I’ve been trying to keep the same general scheme across the board, like with the camo and whatnot, and for the most part it’s been working pretty well. You be the judge.
Very nice. Are the guns supposed to be the same colour as the uniform? It's a bit hard to see if the red is highlighted or it's just the light you are photoing in front of. Still, very nice, as I said to begin with. Red and grey is certainly different for Ariadna (from my very limited experience)
The standard in the painting comp is definitely higher this time around I think, with many more entries - try not to be bummed out! I think being a single mini opened it up a lot more than the previous duel/diorama. Anyway, it gives you a goal for next time! (Of course, I'm headed into reverse at a rapid rate - but that gives me a goal for next time too!)
@Von Skyfury - You're supposed to deactivate that chip I installed in your brain after you find it. Apparently it's still feeding you information. I've decided to not steal your thoughts on making a polka-dot ALEPH force though.
@Arakasi - Yeah, there's a ton of entries. I'm trying not to get bummed about it. The guns are supposed to be sort of the same color as the uniforms. It's the same grey at least. I may give them another wash or something to darken them up so there's a difference in the greys. The reds are highlighted, but subtly. I don't want to go any brighter, as I feel it'll take away from the model.
Managed to finish my Chasseur and the two Metros I got. I’ve been trying to change up the paint schemes, while still keeping to a similar pattern. So where the Kazaks have the full Camo, the Chasseur keeps the Camo pants but has a black/grey jacket that’s darker. And the Metros keep the Camo pants, but are wearing more civilian looking leather-jackets. They still look the part, but look a little more hodgepodge and I think that’s cool.
Well, see for yourself.
And then, the obligatory group shot so far!
So what’s next? Well I got most of the Light Infantry done, so that means it’s time to step up to the next rung… so I went ahead and got these basecoats down last night…
We’ll see how long it takes me to get all of that done.
Not sure what it is, maybe just a neater paint job - but that Chasseur is looking *very* nice. Or it could be the model - I almost entered my Chasseur into the painting competition because I felt he was coming along as nicely, or perhaps more nicely, than the one I entered. Nah - must be the paint job - well done!
@Von Skyfury - Then go PAINT! I'm beginning to think you don't have any models! Any advice I can give on the painting front I'll gladly shoot your way, you know that. I want to see you models.
@Arakasi - Thanks chief! I'm happy with the way he turned out as well. I think it has something to do with the darker color of his jacket, the rifle doesn't blend into it as much. I love painting dark greys for some reason, as they tend to come out pretty well compared to me painting other colors. I hope the rest look as good.
As soon as I'm done with Metal Gear Solid 4, I gotta paint 5 Blood Angels for my brother, then I'm going full frontal on painting my non-existant Infinity models !
What if I can convince my boss to let me paint at work...humm...?
@Von Skyfury - Seriously? MGS4? It's a MOVIE, just get someone else to push the buttons for you and you can paint and watch at the same time. I know a lot of people made jokes about that when the game came out, but having watched my friend play through it, and actually experiencing the 'Ending' that NEVER STOPPED... yeah... you'll be making fun of it as well by the end.
@CDK - Yeah, no kids. That's what... 6 figs in the past 3 days? Good by Infinity standards, crap by Warhammer standards. Funny how that works. I think it's because I told myself I couldn't get any more models until I finish painting the ones I have. So I've been on a painting rampage.
I've also been wanting to have two groups I can pull out and play small games with, that way I can teach people the basics and have some fun that way. Naturally, I wanted them painted, because I hate seeing people play with proxied Eldar or whatever. Once I get the next batch done I should have two solid little groups to play with!
Well my model crunching hit a wall last night. I got a lot done, but didn’t finish up the three models I was hoping to finish. No big deal, I’ll have them done tonight.
I mean, they’re ALMOST done, but not quite to the level of fit and finish I want. There’s just a handful of little things I want to adjust.
I’m not sure if I want to two-stage the armor camo, doing like I did on the Mag and putting a secondary stripe (likely grey) in the black stripes. I may just leave them for now. I think they look pretty good, they’re VERY Red, almost too red, but I think it’s growing on my so I’m not going to change it.
Aaand here they are.
That’s the Veteran Kazak, I did a little Ram-Horn thing with the camo on his helmet and I like it.
HMG guy. Having a Camo figure with an Armor Piercing HMG is just awesome.
And my favorite guy, the Tankhunter with the Adhesive Grenade Launcher. These things are a riot and I love to use them. Didn’t bring an Engineer? So sorry. Of course, after you glue someone, the best thing to do is walk up and plant a D-Charge on them.
Priceless.
They’ll be done by the end of today, and then, onto the Muls! I’ve been ticking away at the Traktors while I was letting the washes dry… so I’m trying a couple old tricks to combat they issues I’ve been having with large flat surfaces. May try one or two of Endtransmission’s recommendations as well.
Once those three are done then I just have my Traktor Mul's to do... then my Ariadna models are all painted!
Except the one Caledonian guy with the two shotguns, but I don't really want to use him anyway.
I say painted, but the group won't be done yet. I need to pick up a few more models first... another Tankhunter and a Chasseur, and another SAS Chap, and I think that'll round everything out.
My Kameels and Auxilia came in the mail today, so those need to be assembled and primed, so I'll probably get those done tonight.
Any leftover time will go back to my Haqqislam, as I still have a few models there that need painting. I don't know how many points of Haqq I have now... but I'm thinking it's pushing 500.
Alrighty... so I'm not dead, though my daily grinding of model creation has slowed significantly. Ran out of meds (read: cocaine) and that slows me down significantly. All joking aside, sometimes I get in a funk and just don't want to do anything, and that's really hard to braek sometimes.
Not to say I haven't been doing anything! Just no pictures. I've been in assembly mode as a bunch of orders came in... so now I have a bunch of stuff primed and waiting for paint. Things like...
I’m rather happy with how he turned out. I ended up painting him in bright colors rather than the Deadpool paint scheme… and lets be honest, this guy is Deadpool. Just more Spanish.
I didn’t know what I was going to do with the paint scheme, then I saw the eyes, and decided that I was going to go full Mass Effect with this one. So I basically painted him up like a male Phantom… just with more Yellow. I didn’t really do much shading or anything, because with the white and yellow, I really like the bright, clean colors. Apparently not the best thing for a painting comp.
Ah well. He’ll murder someone on the table for me.
So back to the real armies!
I managed to get the Tankhunters and the Vet Kazak done! Not that there was much more to do on them anyway… just little touchup stuff here and there. So here’s what I have at the moment.
Vet Kazak! Now with more horns.
Chap with the APHMG. Yeah, I didn’t do the eyes… I can’t fit anything under the helmet and you’ll never see the eyes on the tabletop… I’m not worried about it.
And the chap with the ADHL. Love that model.
But wait! That’s not all! I also got back to work on my Haqqislam! They’re still my favorite of the armies, and I have a bunch of stuff to paint for them. So I started back off by working on the Naffatun. I really love the way these models look. They’re clean, dynamic, and fun to paint. The only thing I didn’t like were the lines for the flamethrowers, they were a pain to try and line up properly.
So that went well. I’m happy with how they turned out.
So I stopped painting in the middle of working on my Traktor Muls. I’m not super thrilled with them, but maybe they’ll come into their own once they’re a little more done.
Nice job !
You did a very good job with the yellow and the white !
As for your Ariadna and Haqqislam models, they are awesome as usual. Can't wait to see these Traktor Muls finished =)
Sat down last night and got my last bit of models primed up before the humidity hit, so I’m all good in the Primed department. Every model I have for Infinity is now based, primed, and ready to roll. This is a good feeling.
I’m cut down my purchasing mayhem to once per paycheck to make an attempt to keep myself in line. I’m definitely going to snag the Druze Shock Team if they’re in stock coming around… I want those guys bad and they’ll be fun to paint. Will need some more drones too…
On the subject of remotes, I painted up the Nasmats last night! They’re the cutest little helpers ever… with the possible exception of Aleph’s Yudbots, but that’s because those look kinda like bunnies.
So here’s what I have so far.
So, now my engineer has some long-range hands! Good stuff.
I have… a Lasiq, a Djanbazan, and an Al’Hawwa left… then I’m out of Haqq stuff to paint!
Just love those infinity robots. Lovely colour scheme too - very chilled scheme (the blue/cream not the bright red). Infinity models have such great poses - dynamic
Wow I can't believe I've missed your thread here, chemical cutthroat! I read the whole thing, good stuff and you've got the passion for it. You've also got an insane collection, I love it. Consider me subscribed.
I think your tractor mules need some color on the base, flocking maybe, or more of a woodland base rather than the gray. They're a bit too monotone.
My weekend that I had set aside for painting got assaulted and taken by force. So I spent it away from my paintbrushes, and alas, I was all sorts of not-productive.
Thanks for all the motivating comments guys. Especially for the group of people that I consider some top-notch painters. It really pokes the feel-good-buttons and whatnot. In a strictly platonic way of course.
@ Cavedweller – Yep, there’s still plenty more to do on the Traktor Muls. Skyfury was right, they’re nowhere near done… though I imagine I’m not going to do too much with the bases though. I’ve kept them the same colors as every other model I’ve been working on, so other than some clean up and a bit of snow, I don’t plan too much for them.
I don’t know what it is with me and basing, but I just can’t convince myself to chop up a bunch of plasticard and bits and rocks and whatnot in order to jack up the height of my model and get sniped in a game because Tommy the Kazak decided bringing around his own ammo crate to stand on was a good idea.
I’m kidding of course.
I really like fancy bases, but for my Infinity I’ve been focusing on the models themselves. Every single one of my armies are going to be based the same, that way when I build my board, every army I own will fit the theme of the board. It leads to them looking rather boring right now, but I’m hoping for a wicked payoff later when I’m shooting cinematic shots for Battle Reports.
Or I’m lazy and I just like making up complicated excuses for things that sound believable!
So back to work for now, and back to the paintbrushes this evening!
So once again, I claw to the surface of my blog, shake the dirt from my grimy claws, and show things to you guys.
I haven't been around Dakka for a bit, but after shaking off a couple videogame addictions, and once again going to my paintbrushes, I have fallen back in line... ready to crank things out.
But in my absence, I have not been lax! No! I have been painting!
And here, my friends, is what I have been painting... it's a lot... so rinse out your eyeballs and grab a drink. I take way too many pictures.
Though for some reason, they seem a little... I dunno, grey? Washed out? I'll work on that, but for the meantime you can at least see I'm not a liar. The blues are very blue as usual, the purples are very violet, some could say... Indigo!
I'm getting there...
So first up... my Lasiq! She's been sitting in my case, primed and wanting for paint for months. Truth be told she scared me a bit. She's an amazing model and I wanted to do her justice, so I kinda fell somewhere between doing said justice and just getting her done so I'd stop futzing over it. So here she is, ready to peg anyone who sticks their nose-head-face-whatever out from a door-window-dropship.
So there she is. I also pulled out yet another mini I have had sitting around but haven't painted. The Muyib... now with Heavy Missile Launcher! Because BOOM! This guy singlehandedly took out a whole link-team of Knights. And also killed my Doctor... but... umm... Hey! Knights!
But what's this! Something else has finally been painted! I give you more Remotes! A second Shihab (sorta), and the two Kameels... one with the Combi Rifle(s) and the EVO... who I really need to paint something cool on his dish. I'll get there. But you know what else this means? That's right, BAGGAGE! Paradisio Missions? Bring the noise!
So I still have a Djanbazan I need to paint, because man that guy has been primed since the dawn of this game and he really deserves to get some color on that mask. I'll see about that.
But This hasn't been my only project! I had a stack of random PanO things to work on... so let me show you how that's been going...
Whew...
Okay... I need a break.
Yeah...
Next time I'm out at the game store I'll take a couple nice shots under the beautiful lighting with them running around in terrain and stuff so you can get the nice look to everything, I have no idea what is up with my lightbox and the lights, since I didn't change anything... but ah well, you get the idea of what's going on.
I should have some more things in the works... and I gotta get some snow on those bases... all in good time.
Comments and yelling at me for disappearing are always welcome!
Thanks! I was lamenting over what to paint them, when I caught wind in the Paradisio fluff that the PanO specops were called 'Indigo'. So rather than go with a green scheme.like I was planning, I switched to the dark purple to represent the blackops side of things. I think it came out rather well.
Thanks! And me too! I do so love putting paint to models. I think I'm holding onto all the bright colors for that time when I finally get into Nomads. Then I shall assault the eyeballs with all sorts of garish flavors.
Or I'll end up painting them all like concrete. We'll see!
@CDK - I expect something after you say that! I know you have a horde of stuff hiding somewhere, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.
@weety - Thanks! If you think those remotes are cute wait till you see the Spotbot for ALEPH. It basically looks like a cyberpunk bunny.
I'm going to be heading up to the game store this weekend, (Dropzone Games, taking the place of where the old BattleBunker for GW used to be), so I'm hopefully going to get some stuff done in that time. If I don't, someone needs to beat me.
I'm also helping a friend build a Jotum he got. Which means I have more proof of ownership of a Jotum than Alpharius does. PICS MAN!
Might even get a game or two in! If I do I'll try my best to do a little battlereport or something, but I tend to get so caught up in things that I forget to take pictures.
I played a game against my buddy, but sadly no pictures. I did get to run over a Loup Garou with a Maghariba Guard though. Personal victory there. I also learned that APHMG's MURDER YOU. My poor 97 point model. Ah well, he had fun.
If we get in a game today I'll take pictures this time, I promise!
But! My real reason for posting. A model who I have ignored for TOO LONG is finally painted and ready to rock. The Good ole' Djanbazan is up and running, ready to take hits like a boss and play Doctor. Or whatever it is I have him do. I mean really, a Doctor WITH Regeneration? Physician Heal Thyself!
Anyway, here he be.
So there he is. So I was looking around for something else to paint. And... well... I'm running out of stuff guys! This is crazy! You know how it is to be a wargamer, you always have something to paint! So I have this new, terrified/giddy feeling as I sort through my foam trying to find something to apply paint to in a painting panic. Low and behold, I find a Hexas. Was I going to be using him anytime soon? Noooope. Let's paint him.
He's not done, but I figured I'd show how far I've gotten in a couple shots.
As you can see, when I get into a theme, I stick to it. I'm crazy like that. But I don't know if I'm going to paint a purple Jotum.
I mean... anyway...
I do still have one very awesome model which I'm scared of. I picked up a Marut, and she's beautiful. Fully built, primed, based... just waiting for paint. But I have zero idea how to apply paint to such a wonderfully dynamic metal badass. What a woman.
I'm going to try and finish the Hexas today, because nothing says Black Ops like Thermal Optic Camo and a Spitfire. I'm also going to pick up a Heavy Infantry for my usual suspects, because I've got a plan...
So it was another productive day, and I got the Hexas done! I'm rather content with him. He could be fancier, but I think he looks just fine the way he is. I'll just go ahead and put these up then...
So while painting him, I would put on a wash or something and it would have to dry... so during that downtime I got to put some effort into this guy... because Spitfire damnit.
And then...
And finally...
I've always liked these guys, but damn are they expensive. Points wise I mean, not price. They are really cool models and I can run them in the Hassassin Bahram list. So I said, “Chem? Why haven't you painted one of these yet?”
And I was all, “Self! I have no idea!”
So we... err... I made a purchase. And we got some basecoats on. Let's see where it goes from there!
Chemical Cutthroat wrote: @CDK - I expect something after you say that! I know you have a horde of stuff hiding somewhere, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.
Ya I'm working I'm working! I really haven't had time though. I get home from work and I just want to flop in front of the TV. It doesn't help there's some good shows right now. This time of years sucks too. To many holidays and birthdays.
I love the purple/blue and black Hexas. Great colors.
I think on the Asawira? you are a masochist. Going from black to white? Why not prime white and paint the black?
Because of my intense hatred for white primer. The Asawira is nowhere near done. Thats just the first of many many coats. Working up from black just works for me, as I've had nothing but failures when priming and painting white models.
And glad you like the Hexas Bai, means a lot after seeing your stuff.
Also, you can paint and watch TV CDK. That or you gotta get some painting buddies. Me and some friends meet up on the weekends to paint and play, and that is always good times, it helps us stay motivated. You guys help me there too.
What stuff? If only I'd get something done once in a while! Thank you anyways!
Now back to finishing that Naga... *self-whip*
And regarding different primers, it's all about what approach you choose and what result you aim for. Black, white and grey, they all have their purpose in my eyes. I've got to admit though, as my technique develops I tend to prime white/light grey more and more. Still a matter of taste though.
True, and maybe someday I will give it another try. I noticed almost all of the people that I watch that are really amazing painters seem to start from a white prime... so maybe I should just bite the bullet and give it a try again.
I already knew you had mad skills but my impressed state is renewed by your ability to turn out great looking miniature after great looking miniature. Your quality level really doesn't drop from what i've seen, i could learn a lot from you! We'll soon see how i manage of course!
Your Haqq are probably still my favourite because you pull it off with such levels of class but those PanO are really something, boss!
Thanks chief. That's certainly motivating. I can't wait to apply the same sort of colors when I get my PanO TAG.
I'm still trying to figure out which one I want... but I'm leaning towards the Cutter. It's either that or the Dragoe. Not sure yet.
I'm also thinking of grabbing the Bulleteer and the Peacemaker to start making my Drone List. And running LOTS of Heavy Shotguns. You gotta get in someone's face to make good on them but damn they hurt. I think it'll be fun.
Dude you got me mixed up with someone else! There's no way I'm near your stuff. My shasvastii have been coming out great I think mainly because of the bases and the color choices. My Yu JIng look like crap right now.
What was the problem with white primer?
I saw a great video on youtube about priming. A couple of things he did I thought were excellent. 1 was he put the can in hot water for about 10 min. Just ran hot water until it was hot to touch. Not boiling or anything like that. He first primed the figure black and then used white but only from the top.
Edit: Found it!
I've been doing something similar. I prime white and then do black ink wash. The black gets into all those little crevices that I used to hate because I could see the white. Now no problems.
I officially have a Spitfire fetish or something. If a model has a Spitfire, Chem is gonna own it.
Save for CA models it seems. I'm not there yet.
I got some more work done on the Asawira, and I ended up making him a little brighter than the others, which came out well in my opinion. I'll get the pics up tonight when I get off from work.
I also assembled the Uberfallkommandos. They were a mess and I did not enjoy it. So many finnicky little bits. The Chimera was awful and I totally botched the model... so we'll see how that ends up.
I said I was going to prime them white! So I'm going to have to pick up some white spray in a bit, since I don't own any.
So these are from the weekend, but I only just got around to uploading them from my phone since I was doing a favor for CDK. What's a few clicks between friends right?
So I'm almost but not quite done on the Asawira. I still have some work to do on the Spitfire, and I'm going to need to touch up some things here and there. The blues are almost done but not quite, and I twitched when working on the eyes and now I gotta figure out what to do about that spot.
Damn you hands!
Anyway...
He has a lot more edges than my other Haqqislam troops. I guess you could say he's... edgier?
That was awful.
I went with trying to make him a little brighter than the others. He doesn't care that people can see him, he wants them to bring the noise. Also! I'm conflicted as to what to paint the chest bubble and the two side bubbles. I was originally going to go orange, but the more I look at them, the more I want to paint them blue and keep the Orange to a minimum on this guy.
Thoughts?
Also, proof I have Nomads.
Chimera intentionally blurred because I broooooke it.
What a nightmare model.
Next up... white primer, likely followed by me throwing a ragefest. I blame this on you guys if it doesn't work!
So I haven't been totally dead. I've just had a lot of real life going on. Such is the holiday season. Thats not to say I haven't been working on things! Here. Walk with me and I shall show you.
During Thanksgiving I took the time to snow the rest of my bases. Check it!
I've also been working on the Asawira, which is finally done but I don't have snaps yet. I finally broke down and sculpted a hand onto my SpecOps. Corvis Belli dropped the all in having a model with lost of options... that you have to sculpt on yourself. I'm a gakky sculptor, so this bothers me. But the Haqqislam model was too cool to pass up.
I also got the Najjarun Engineer. I... do not like this sculpt. At all. He has a huge head and is way too skinny. I tried to cover is retardo face but I feel I ultimately failed. I'm only painting him up for torunament use, as I almost always use Engineers on my lists.
And then theres that... other thing that came in the mail. More on this later.
After a way too long hiatus caused by lack of funds and lack of life, I've been able to get back on the ole' painting horse, and saddled up to... I don't know where that was going. Long story short, Dakka is no longer blocked on the computers at work, so my posting is high and my productivity is directly proportionate to what they pay me.
Moving along! I've been helping a pair of my friends with their painting and modeling, and of course working on my own stuff at the time. We cleared off their kitchen table, bought some tiles and a couple lights, and they proceeded to second guess and doubt every shred of painting advice I gave them.
Savages.
They're comin' along though. Slowly. If they let me take pictures, I shall add them to the Blog so ya'll can judge them as well.
But the question you ask, “CC! But what are YOU working on!?”
...actually the question is more likely, “CC where the **** have you been for a year?!”
I was... umm... dead.
I got better.
Moving along! What HAVE I been working on! Sadly, it is not the Pupniks. They sit, unprimed, sad, in the bottom of my project box. Because my fear of White Primer continues to this day. And I haven't picked up any white. So yeah... they're gonna be waiting a while.
So if not Nomads, surely I must be working on my every increasing Haqqislam!
No? ...how about those Indigo PanO guys?
...seriously? Just say it man!
I am, in fact, slowly putting together the newest faction, Yu Jing! Which I constantly irritate everyone else with by saying it jew-ching. Cause apparently that is how it is pronounced all proper-like. I'm not doing anything overly fancy with them, but I assure you that they will not be 'painted like the box'. Nopenopenope.
I'm thinking Jade.
I actually have a handful of them complete, a couple Celestial Guard, a Daofei, and a Gulang that had been the second model I ever bought before I even realized Infinity was a legit game. So he was happy to get some paint goin'.
I have Play by Plays of the Daofei and one of the CG. And I shall post them all... Tonight! As soon as I get home. They're on my phone, and I was just dog tired when I got in from painting last night.
Bear with me, I shall deliver! And certainly continue my painting shenanigans once again.
So! CC must deliver on earlier promises. Here is my play by play of the other night, complete with enough pictures to make any mobile users scream bloody murder. I apologize for your dataplans ahead of time.
To start of course, a clean slate. We swung by Home Depot and snagged some nice big ole' tiles for 99 cents and got prepared.
Ah... now that's more like it. Workplace engage.
So just some group shots of what I'm working on in full right now. There's a couple of Bao hiding in there. A Crane Rank Imperial Agent. The two Celestial Guard. A Daofei. And a Guilang. (Not a Gui Feng... sorry about that. I don't really speak Mandarin).
Most at least have some sort of basecoat on em'. Except the Crane, but he makes me nervous so he's just going to sit there for a while. The Guilang is done, and I didn't do any fancy shots of him, I will later. Also the Celestial Guard with Spitfire is done, he was my test model for the paint scheme so I knew I wasn't going to mess everything up. Here he is...
Looks alright. The pictures unfuzz if you zoom a hair, and you can see me starting to work on the creams for the Snipergal. I shortened the barrel on her rifle to use it as a combi rifle if I want to, since I don't really use snipers in my list. Here is some more...
So yeah, there is the cream layers going down. I was using Zandri Dust (I think?) for the basecoat... and man I need a gallon of water to thin that stuff out. It goes one thicker than a slab of butter. I thought I pretty much ruined her facemask, even after taking a ton of time to water down the paint. But... after the next layer it seemed alright.
I had done the harder highlights on her armor too, which were starting to show up well. I was bouncing between her and... this guy... some of these are a bit fuzzy, but I was on my *cough* cider and he's a camo model so he's hard to get into focus.
Whew. Yeah, thats a big one.
I was having some issues on what to do white on him, but decided to do him primarily in the jade, even if it is a bit boring, I like the uniform look and how he is supposed to be a sneaky bastard... a sneaky bastard in heavy armor.
So after a bit of working, we got to the stage where they were both prettymuchdone. Sooooo here we go.
Yes, I am guilty of painting the exposed midriff. Because it wouldn't be Corvis Belli without just a biiiiit of cheesecake. And I was rather happy with the way the spine popped on the power armor.
I didn't do anything over the top or crazy. But I did do my best to try and get back up somewhere near my old standards. I gotta get back in the swing of things, and the Bao troopers I paint next aren't going to pull any punches when I work on them... so I'm both dreading and looking forward to that equally. They are damn cool models.
I'm not 100% on his sword, I might change the color later, (and I forgot to paint the handle damnit), and might switch either the gold of the hilt or the yellow of the blade. Time will tell.
For now, mission accomplished, they shall be snowed! And I shall slip off to bed in a little bit. I hope ya'll enjoy, and I'm glad to be back in business.
The SAS guy who doesn’t take any crap, and some Yu-Jing model that just looked too cool to pass up. Truth be told I bought them for a cyberpunk game I was running to use as player models…
great idea!
@nadinee – Thanks! And yeah, the first three models I ever bought were the Hassassin, that SAS chap, and the very first was the Guilang. But he was a paaaain to put together and never got painted. I finally took the steps and got him up to snuff. I'll snap some shots of him later.
Also, welcome to Dakka! I noticed that is your first post, so welcome to the crew, enjoy your stay, watch out for the crazies, don't feed the trolls. The usual thing.
@San – Heya chief! Good to be back.
@ Xysis – Thanks you! I'm trying to be around more to answer queries, be helpful, and accidentally spread misinformation with good intentions but ultimate self destruction. Got a Faction in mind yet?
With the Celestial Guard out of the way, I figured I'd tackle the Bao and get them squared away. I wasn't super-sure what I was going to do with the, but with my intent to keep the force simple and green I just dove back in. I was doing pretty good about the step by step, up until the end where I ended up too focused and just ran with it. But hey, I tried.
Also, some snaps of my Guilang who was done but I never shot any good photos of. I still didn't, but they are at least bigger photos. So here he is.
I like how he turned out, even if it is a little simple. I'm not doing any layering or anything on these guys, just hard highlights and some washes and the like.
I also took some snaps of my friend's PanO forces he's working on. They're still very WIP, but I think they're going well. He tends to get rather impatient, and absolutely hates using washes, so we butt heads a lot. But I know he has the talent to do this well, so he's just making up excuses. Here's what he has so far. Spoiler, one of them I'm working on, can you spot it?
I like the color scheme. And we managed to get it more blue than my green. He's trying to model them after the color of the French tanks in World of Tanks, and I think he's hitting it rather well so far.
Anyway, on to the Bao.
Sorry about the creeping finger, it just wants some attention. It irritates me that the lens is set so close to the top of the phone, but not much I can do about it. Also this newer phone doesn't let me put it into Macro mode for up close shots, but it does a pretty good job auto-adjusting. A lot of the photos look fuzzy, but if you zoom in on them they sharpen up really well. So I dunno what that is about.
That's about where my step by step stopped and I attacked the models with vigor. So the next shots are them magically done, like when a TV Chef put a cake in the over and then pulls out the completed version from the oven next to him.
So yeah, they're done and I'm happy with 'em. I was originally going to put some sort of Chinese character somewhere on them, but then I remembered I'm terrible at that and squiggled some stuff and called it a day. I was feeling uninspired.
On a side note, I picked up my Husam and got him finished. No real WIPs for him, I just sat down and started painting where I left off. So here is the result.
...goddamnit finger.
Enjoy guys, and lemme know what you think. More on the way!
I see you gave your husam the spitfire. Good call. And I like the color. nice work. Perhaps add a 'warm' accent color to the comlog lens and the other 'lit' areas of the husam?
Yeah, that conversion was a pain, simply because they give you the extra guns but then you have to cut them down. His hand was on the original rifle stuff I cut off, so I had to halfassedly sculpt a hand onto the spitfire. I'm rubbish at greenstuff.
I might go ahead with that and add my orange to him like I did on the other models. Maybe on his back 'stacks' and his wrist thingy. The spots are so tiny I can't really do much with them color-wise, other than dot em' and call it a day.
Your YuJing seem to have such an easy but effective colour scheme :p A bit much black for my taste, but wel yeah :p
And I dig the camo you did on the guilang, it's the same pattern as your maghariba guard isn't it? :p
I'm guessing you did the female fusilier, it's that or my second guess would be the first pic of the male fusilier?
Your husam is great! Again, that colour combo is soo good ;p and I like how you didn't paint your spitfire black, are you only painting your YuJing's weapons black?
Yeah, I have some issue with picking colors for the Yu Jing's other stuff. If I did them in browns or something it would add some contrast which would break up all the black... but its always that frustrating balance between 'tactical' and 'looks cool on table'.
Most tactical gear on military troops is colored towards their equipment. If they're wearing black, expect lots of black nylon webbing, cause it makes sense.
I tend to paint guns different colors depending on the faction. The Ariadna I've been doing is grey with wooden grips. The Yu Jing is black. PanO is a purpleish grey. And my Haqq I match it to their armor.
Well I got my uplink working again! So that means more stuff I've been working on.
I'll start with what my friend has been working on. I think they're coming along nicely, though we both agree that the faces need some working on. So without further ranting on my part, have a whole mess of Fusiliers.
So yeah, there's that. I like em', and I like the dark red for the guns and the hats. I think they could use a little bit more to make them pop, but we'll see what ya'll think. One of those is still the one I'm working on, so I'll let everyone puzzle that one out.
But hey, what is really cool is what he was working on last time we were painting. He went from zero to painted in one sitting, and I think he did a damn good job. So without further ado, his Equestrian Knight of the Holyshithehasaspitfire!
I think he looks pretty sharp. Can't wait to see him on the table.
As for what I've been working on, it isn't super exciting. I've had a bunch of Ghulam sitting around in paint-limbo... half complete and sad. To make matters worse, I used them in almost every game I played. They truly deserved better, and so, I decided to get to work on making them fit in! Whereas I was a little rushed on the Yu Jing, I'm trying to take my time on these guys, and I think it showed a little.
Yes, some of them are labeled wrong, I was copy-pasting the word Ghulam a lot, and two of them are Halqa. I run them as Ghulam anyway, since the only difference seems to be helmets and kneepads. But I love all the models, so whatever.
I'd like to hear what ya'll think about the lips on the ladies. It was a last minute adjustment after a few beers, and though it tarts up the cheesecake a little, I think it looks good on the tabletop. Up close they look like hookers.
Damn you zoom and your betrayal!
So! Here they are... Oh! And a bonus WIP Lasiq as well.
And, the Lasiq.
And so in closing for tonight... Pose Like a Team, Becase **** just got Real.
Yes! Your last group shot shows your minis are really tied together :p Both by colours but it's a great group pose too I think :p
And I really like the helmet on your halqa, which seems a lot more realistic than my painted sculpt ^^
I do have to say is that I prefered your lasiq sniper model, did you use the same blue and is the difference due to another camera you used? Or did you really use another blue?
And which fusilier have you done?
I shall not reveal which Fusilier is correct until they're complete! So we'll have to wait on that.
It is in fact the exact same blue across all the models. The Lasiq's blue comes out much richer I think because I allow more dark to stay. There is much more blue on him, and the others merely have the blue as an accent.
As for comparing him to the sniper... I'm going to get him all done, and then take a comparison photo of the two next to each other in the same lighting and see if there is much difference, or if it is just because of the location.
If you're familiar with Games Workshop paints, the stages for my blue are...
Mordian Blue
Enchanted Blue layer
Asurmen Blue Wash
Enchanted Blue Highlight
50/50 Mix of Enchanted Blue and Ice Blue for the final Highlight.
I find it looks rich and really pops... and it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures, which really makes me happy.
And your helmet looks awesome! I wish I could sculpt like that. I just think it would look better blue instead of "Aim Here" Red.
Chem, I've been meaning to post in here. Your Haqqislam guys are gorgeous. I don't think I've seen anyone else use blue as an accent color on them before and I have to say, it looks great. I'm also impressed by the degree of uniformity your army has. Mine end up looking all over the place in terms of color aside from them all having tan and green somewhere on them.
I think you've also convinced me that I should buy a Husam and an Asawira.
Nice work CC. Now I need to get to painting my Ghulam too. Or at least finish them :( Interestingly enough, I used a turquoise as an accent on them, similar to what you have done.
Barzam, yes, get an Asawira. Get the Spitfire Asawira. A great mini, and a truly nasty in game unit.
@Barzam – Thanks mate, I've actually been stalking your plog a little, as I am a huge Gundam fan and I like seeing all the cool mecha you score. And your painting skills are damn sharp, I'd love to see what you do with an Asawira! Get one! Mine is actually complete now, I'll have to get pictures up, I just realized I never followed through and posted that.
As for them being all over the place in uniformity, its funny because one of my original draw to Infinity was that I could have a force and have a complete lack of uniformity, and it would still fit. But sure enough I was sucked into the draw of 'sameness' and I'm rather glad I was.
And yeah, the Husam is a baller, I love the model, even if I had to hack him up to get the spitfire on there. (I have an unhealthy obsession with Spitfires).
Oh! And if you want to see even more blue, check out soulcow's plog. He is doin' kind of the same thing, but has it a more PanO sort of blue, with a bit of red goin' on. I think they look pretty good.
@Red – Don't neglect the little guys! I'd love to see what you got goin' for your Haqq. And thanks for the kind words. I really can't get enough of Infinity's stuff. And now after seeing the NEW Kum Bikers? You can damn well bet I'm going to have those when they release. Can't wait to get them painted up... gonna have to work on my freehand. (I need to find a freehand first).
Thanks for the praise. Personally, I think your stuff looks way better and cleaner than mine does. Mach's too, for that matter. I guess I'll have to post some more mecha in my plog. I do have that Vatshu kit I"m working on with me....
Also, how is it that you don't have the Kaplan Spitfire yet? I wholly expect you to buy the upcoming Druze one as well.
Money mainly. I plan on getting the Kaplans and the Druze, because they're awesome and will fit into my Rogue Silk Trader theme for my stuff once I get them done. Believe me, they'll be in the works.
I have a whole mess of pictures I need to upload. I just haven't been near my computer to do so since I spent the past few days flying into Nashville and then driving back to Baltimore. So I'm a little beat.
But I'll try and get stuff uploaded in the next day or so!
I've had some distraction with painting those fancy Endless Fantasy Tactics guys, but as soon as I put the finishing touches on the Dragoon, I decided to crank out one of my Infinity guys.
This chap is old school.
I bought one of the Khawarij models, mainly because their fluff is badass, and I think despite being part of the original first wave sculpts for Infinity he holds up pretty well. Better than his boss did at least. Regardless, Superjump is a cool ability, and I wanted to abuse it a little and have some fun, so I picked up a super soldier.
I adjusted the scheme a hair from my usual. Not much, just went a little darker, sort of like my Djanbazans. I'm sort of working out the fluff stuff for him, but I won't bore ya'll with my ramblings about my fantasy army.
...I AM probably going to snag that O-12 commish for reasons though. Yes... reasons...
Anyway, here's the chap I hammered out last night.
I'm gonna have to figure out something else to call him, since Khawarij literally translates to Red Turban... and I screwed that pooch.
Indeed, it's a nice model, and damn :p You were right to darken up some parts I think the model itself has something cool/dark about it, and these colours are just fitting ^^
You still need to tell us which fusilier you painted aswell (a) - if they are finished that is. Weren't they models of a friend of yours? Are you painting them, or are you painting together..?
Thanks guys. And thanks for the squiggle-dot translation Red. I'll have to run it by my cousin who actually can speak the language and see what he comes up with.
So nothing Infinity from myself at the moment, as I've been elbows deep in Heavy Gear for a big RPG thing I'm going to be running. But while I've been doing that, my friends have been cranking away at their own stuff.
My buddy repainted his PanO forces, and got them to a place where he's happy with them, so I figured I'd share all of these with you guys. Hopefully he'll be at a full 300pts soon.
So you do have a main blog then CC. I am a complete Infinity virgin so your work is a great introduction to some of the miniatures in the range. One thing you constantly do well is the crispness and cleanness of your painting along with excellent colour choices.
Your mate is not half bad either (this does sound like a chat-up line one may use, that is not the intention).
So, on average, how many minis do you use in a game of Infinity?
I'm sure he'll appreciate the comment. (He lurks here, but never posts, the bum). And thanks! Crisp and bright is usually what I go for with my models.
As for the games themselves, it is about the same size as Malifaux, give or take. You can expect to have on average 8-12 models in your force. Usually a smattering of cheaper, general purpose guys, and a few handpicked specialists that bring some unique gameplay, (or outright firepower) to the force.
At the absolute maximum, you can field two Groups, which max out at 10 figures each. So 20 guys total. I'm not going to say that it is difficult to do, but usually by going with such a large number of troops, you're not going to have a lot of heavy hitters. I think my Yu Jing (The Chinese/Asian) list that I run has somewher ebetween 17-20 models depending on how I build it, but that is an extreme example.
You average game is 300 points, and models like the Dragoe (that big Orange chap with the Shoulder Cannon) costs something like... 97 pts? And the little guys around him are about 14 pts each.
So you can see that a lot of your force can go into the big scary killy units. Naturally, LOSING said unit can be a real blow.
Been a while since I've posted. I've obviously been around, since I comment a good bit, but my own work has been slacking.
I still don't have a net connection at home, so I end up doing all of my uploading and everything from my phone instead of being able to get on and post picture dumps like I wish I could.
I actually have been working on getting my Dragoe painted (after heavy repair), and have worked on basecoating my EFT models. I also got a BUNCH of guys finished that have just been sitting around. I have them on my phone, but I didn't feel like abusing my Data Plan with uploading a ton of Haqq dudes.
OhbutIwill.
Also doing all that on the tiny screen is a real PITA, but I need to stop being a slacker and get to it.
Anyway, for your time, here's the Fiday I FINALLY painted up. She's been sitting around primed forever, and after seeing everyone else have a go at her, I had to give it a shot. (Phrasing.) She's by far my favorite unit to use in gameplay... Boarding Shotguns are wonderful.
Here you go, my as of yet unnamed Fiday. And dat booty.
I normally like to do the hair in all sorts of bright colors, since Infinity loves the anime thing, but since she's constantly changing it and I wanted her to be a little sneaky (yeah bright blue lines shut up), I left it black, and rather like it.
I've been trying to figure out a replacement scheme since I'm all out of my old combination of Khemri Brown and Dheneb Stone. I really like how she turned out, but she is way more Yellow and way less White than the rest of my forces. A light brighter too with the contrast and whatnot. I like how it came out, but I'm rather on the fence about committing to it or continuing the hunt for paints that match my old scheme. I like my old scheme...
Anyway, where've you been Moltar?! Haven't seen you around in a long while.
Some more stuff I finally finished. In the slooow process of getting things uploaded.
I'm not super happy with the Cutter, but he's got his snow and I finally finished the gun... and repinned those wing things for what I hope and prey is the LAST TIME.
I know it won't be.
He looks better in the low-light environment he's meant for, the harshness of the brighter lights makes the hard edges look a bit sloppy to me. But He's not going to get dipped, he's good 'nuff.
And then there's the Engineer I take in %80 of my games but was never painted. Well he's finally painted... finally! Big head and all.
Models are looking great chem. Love the blues on the female model, and the pose on the engineer is very dynamic. Very nice purple highlighting too; when I do it it ends up chalky but yours looks nice and bright.
Yeah, with the purple I had to go outside of my normal Citadel Paint comfort zone and look for something better. I ended up finding a lavender looking purple from Vallejo that worked really well, and it makes a good hard highlight for the liche purple I had been using for the baselines.
I got a Kurgat done as a test model, but I need to touch him up a little more before calling him done-done. I'll try and get a shot up later.
Heya, seems I have quite a lot to catch up.
The fiday is awesome It does seem as if you put more effort in these last Haqq models. As if you took more time to highlight/shade them, is that true, or just some lighting effects?
You should also make another group picture of your latest painted Haqq models, like the group pic with the maghariba guard :p
Have you decided to paint the cutter violet to make up for your EFT dragoon? I still think it was cool on the dragoon, but the highlights on the cutter make the colour pop out a lot more, I like it ^^
Also, I just noticed the snow on the engineer models base, and I went looking in your gallery for some other haqq pictures. I never payed attention too it, because not all your models have snow, but the result is very nice. It's neutral enough not to distract the eye from the models, but the occasional snow bases still make it interesting, and it ties everything nicely together.
I've been away for a while, working and going on holiday, but seeing your blog and browsing your pictures makes me want to start painting again asap

If I didn't know any better I would almost think you were making fun of me!
Barzam wrote:Hmm. Purple's an interesting choice for the Cutter. Is the rest of your Pano Purple?
Did you add a balaclava to that Najjarun? It looks [i]kind[ of/i] like you did, but I can't tell. That's the old version of him as well, isn't it?
Yeah, I added a facemask to the Najjarun. I had a little bit of greenstuff left over from something so I just tamped it down so you could still see his features underneath, but more like the mask is wrapped tight and poking through a little. He looks alright, but he isn't my favorite model by any stretch... which is a shame since I use him in almost every game.
And yeah, the rest of my PanO is purple! When I was originally painting them I was reading about the Indigo Spec Ops and all that, so the original plan for the paintscheme was an elite Varuna Anti-Terrorist Unit, that used the deep purple color for their gear. If you dig through my gallery a bit you can see the other ones, I think I have a group shot of em' floating around. I'll see if I can dig it up.

It is certainly high time for me to take another group shot... though they all won't fit into just one! I recently laid out my guys on a shelf above my gaming table, and it really struck me with the sheer number of units I have. I'm likely pushing 1000 points of Haqq, give or take. And I don't even have the Sekhban box I want. Or... well... yeah, still a lot I want to pick up.
I actually painted the Cutter way before the Dragoon. I'm working on painting my Dragoe now and I'm trying to remember exactly what I did to get the colors like that. I should really write things down.
And yeah, every one of my Infinity units is based in snow except for Deadpool... err... Senor Massacre. I based him differently since I painted him for the competition we had a year or so ago. I plan on eventually doing an Infinity table, painted up how I want, so all the guys will match when I play at my house. And I like snoooooow.
Thanks for checking in guys!

Group shot for Barzam. Sorry about the ugly lighting, it was when I first got my box set up and the bulbs it came with were these awful yellowy things. I'll get some better shots later.

You have seen "Screaming woman with assault rifle showing off the toilet paper dispenser" in my blog, no? That is the purple I'm talking about. I don't use GW Paints. So I experiment with all sorts of stuff, or used too.
That Cutter (the purple thing yes?) looks sublime, like he is made of Amethyst. I like a lot of Infinity but that model looks like the best in the range that I have seen. If I did purple like that, everything that I paint would be purple (rather than just half my stuff).

Is the new starter set on your "to buy" list?
Oh lord yes.
I actually cancelled one of the Kickstarter things I was backing so I could pre-order that wonderful 'starter set'. I can't wait for that stuff.
And thanks for the kind words about the purple, I wanted it to be a deep and rich color, and seems like I nailed it.
Hopefully I can repeat the experience with the Dragoe!
