Hey,

First blog I'm making.
Edit: I started out with Infinity and mostly posting finished models, but I decided to keep this blog updated with most things I'm working on, being Infinity, EFT and 40k.

I first wanted to start Haqqislam, but I found a Yu Jing starter pack at a decent price so picked that one up :p I really like the domaru model, but I will probably replace it with 2 tiger soldiers when I'm actually going to play (still just played one game of Infinity -and tabletop in general- ever!).
The Tuareg is already finished, but just because I love the model. I don't think I'm going to use it in a 150pt. game after all. I do have some ghulam and a doctor waiting to be painted and I will probably try sculpting a helmet for the bandaged one, because I hate his head :p it's too high and so thin it couldn't possibly contain a decent set of brains.

All the models still need decent basing or at least some paint on the basing. I used some normal glue first, but a hobby store nearby sells some stuff to fix all kinds of bits to a surface, so I'm waiting for the next delivery to pick it up.

First groupshot:

Second groupshot + piece of terrain
Spoiler:

Zhanshi:
Spoiler:

Celestial guard & Invincible: (damn I notice I have to fix up the guard's shoulder pad :s)
Spoiler:

Tuareg: It's not visible on the picture, but the gun refects a lot of light normally -in a wrong way- I worked with diluted Game color black, and for some reason it looks wet, so I might fix it up some time.

Very nice work! Love the colours you have used, and some very nice (and subtle) highlighting.

These must look fantastic on the tabletop.

Thank you all ^^

The academic year is starting tomorrow in Belgium! (well at least for me ^^)
I've had the opportunity to start this hobby (Infinity) with plenty of time during summer vacation. I really hope I will have enough time from now on

I tried converting a ghulam rifle into a rifle + LGL, and I'm almost done sculpting something representing a helmet for the ghulam with bandaged head ^^ I will try to upload pictures of everything this weekend, and ask for comments on the LGL as I'm not sure of the size.

So, this is what I'm currently at. The pictures of the ghulam are taken, but I'm wondering where I put them :p

I'd like some advice on the next colour to use. I'd like to paint the chest and shoulder panels in a much lighter shade of violet, but I'm not sure if I'd add a third colour. I would leave the leather sections in this light gray I used on the other models, and the clothing will be painted like the orange/brown clothing that I also did before. So what do you think?

Well, it's definitely a color- and powerful scheme.
It's matter of taste of course and I don't want to be too negative, but I'm not convinced to be honest.
Seeing just the base tones it's hard to tell, but I guess it could look good in the end. My first impulse would be getting rid of the yellow though.
Replace it with white/grey/black any noncolor or some desaturated color, like a pale brown and it will make the violett much more bearable.

Yeah like I said the yellow which is slightly more orange in real life, will end up with the ochre tone of the leather on the zhanshi, and I'll try to make the violet more like the stuff on the celestial guard and invincible. This picture is taken with another camera as the first pictures, so that might explain the change in colour a bit.
Anyway, I think I found some inspiration. The yellow you mentioned should turn out a more ochre tone, and I found the following scheme; I think I'll add this sanguine tone as third colour.

Think it looks good, and a grey should provide a nice neutral colour - certainly very strong colours, will be interested to see how it turns out once completed!

So I also found the pictures of the ghulam and the LGL.
Tell me what you think. I know the helmet doesn't look like a halqa helmet by far, but it does it's job right? I can use him as either ghulam or halqa now.
The light grenade launcher is made from a toothpick. What do you think of it? Is the magazine big enough? The barrel long enough? What could I do to improve the detail?

Smooth that lgl over with some thin putty so as to obscure the wood grain - aside from that, meh, buggers are supposed to be smooth. Besides, once it's painted you'll rarely ever look closely enough to notice more detail than this again

Hi,
It's been a very long time since I updated this, which I knew from the beginning, but I still want to gather my progress in one place.
I hope you guys don't mind and give me feedback aswell from time to time ^^

So today I'm posting the almost finished Tiger Soldiers. They only need basing, and I really want to rework the HMG weapon! I tried mixing in some colours to step away from all greytone guns, but I failed hard ^^ I think I better paint them in grey tones and then add washes/inks :/

additional picture:
Spoiler:

And then I also started painting up my Ghulam for the Haqqislam starter list. They also need some basing, and maybe a rework on the wood part of the gund, though I won't see that on table And I did forget the gems in their gloves :c Next are the doc and the ghulam with helmet and grenade launcher which I'm going to proxy as a halqa!

additional pics:
Spoiler:

Btw I tried to make pictures this time, so they're not as clear as the first ones ^^

Very nice job. I'm not normally a fan of brown (unless it's used for leather on historical minis) but you've managed to pull it off when, and it's a lovely contrast with the blue.

Nice, clean brushwork as well.

Think the Tigers look good - have you thought about maybe adding in a bit more brown into the mix (the gloves perhaps?) just to break up the blue/grey you mentioned?

Hmm, maybe I can redo some parts on the tigers indeed. I will try do add some colour in the gloves, and probably also the tubes in their neck.

And the brown on the ghulam was actually a tiny mistake. I wanted a more desert tone, but for some reason started mixing up this shade of brown. Then it reminded me of valkyria chronicles for some reason, and I adjusted the shade of blue and red to go along with it.

Really liking your work. I've been at odds with whether or not I would want to do any major modifications to my minis (If it isn't broke, why fix it?), but that little bit of GSing you did on your Ghulam adds a lot of character. And using a toothpick to convert an LGL was also very clever. Great painting too.
Definitely keeping an eye on this.

Heh thanks
I'm also pretty new to the hobby, so I love the occasional sculpting (the easy things) because I can get used to the materials and the techniques without worrying I will mess things up

I'm busy painting the next ghulam, the doctor and the one I gave a LGL and Helmet. Having a little problems with the colours, now I know I've got to keep track what paints I use ^^

So, I finished the next duo of ghulam:

I'm pretty happy about them, I've got the colours about right. I'm only thinking of redoing the butt of the doctor, and the highlights on the LGL.
I would also like some comments on the helmet of the LGL guy. You can't see it clearly, but it shines a lot. I also don't really know how to highlight the thing, because it's a big 'flat' surface.
Today my dad did bring shiny and matte varnish from his work, I'm going to test it hopefully this weekend or next week. Some guys from the gaming club told me I should look into varnish if I did put much time painting the minis, though it could be expensive. As my dad works at a paint company that shouldn't be a problem if the varnish if of good quality ^^ then he can bring loads.

I'm also really happy about them as a group, how the blue ties everything together. (And the red helmet destroys some part of it :/)

The Tiger Soldiers are now touched up, receiving some more colour on the gloves, and it does really help.. so thx Pacific ^^
I've redone the HMG too, just gray, black wash, light grey hl's, I feared messing things up if I tried much more doing something special as before :p

My order of the Tuareg hacker, Odalisque spitfire and Naffatun has arrived, so those will be painted next, starting with the tuareg
A guy at the gaming club is selling his Hassassin Bahram models, since he wants to continue Qapu Khalqi and needs some money, and then hopefully after next month I can also start showing some fidays and the Asawira <3

I gotta say I loooove your Ghulam. It sorta reminds me of my color scheme for my Haqq, but your tans are darker and your accent color is the red instead of orange. The blues in this light are almost like PanO's blue.

And they look splendid.

I gotta agree with you on the helmet. Red is your accent color, and the Blue seems to be your armor color, it would have made more sense to paint the helmet in the Blue to sort of follow that theme, and it would make him stand out a bit less.

I also really like how you split the color on the female Ghulam's vest. All around the dark brown color you used on them looks really good. I'm looking forward to more!

Haha, now that you mention it -I went to have a look, because I only saw your latest YuJing in green- I did inspire myself on your lasiq and al-djabel!
I must have come across them in the gallery section, I love the soft browns you used on those two in particular ^^
I decided to pick blue as a main colour because of those two pictures, but then I went along with the dark brown because it worked.
It reminded me of a reverse Valkyria chronicles-scheme if that sounds familiar Then I just tried to make everything more crispy :p

But damn, I do intend to keep that blue colour coming back in my army, if you don't mind :p
Maybe later this week someone of my family can help me photoshop the helmet blue, to see what that does before I paint it.

The Ghulam look awesome, the paint scheme really brings out the details. Your conversions on the LGL look great and blend very nicely with that coat of color.

I have to agree with you and Chemical Cutthroat on the red helmet. It is a great accent color but it becomes a bit loud with the whole helmet being just pure red. IMHO you could leave the trim and ear guards red and paint the skull cap blue to really pull it together. Not to nit-pick, I really like the mini and paint job. And hey, all that red might be distracting for any snipers who might want to pick him off

Keep it up

Awww, no turquoise or magenta hair? Where's your sense of manga or anime... :( Really nice work. Just kidding about the hair colors.

The Ghulam w/helmet reminds me a bit of the Briscards.

How do you intend to base them?

Exactly!

@Xysis Thx^^ and alright, you convinced me to really look into chaning the red I just wasn't sure, I'll look into the blue helmet

@Red Harvest I have no experience with basing really. That bit of sand on my first YuJing is the first I've done as far as that goes. Some guys at the gaming club said I should wait in the future with glueing the minis on the bases untill I've finished a base.
And then with all my next minis I should start thinking on what I want to know if I should glue it on already or not :p
So, I was thinking the sand of my zhanshi (less gravel) + maybe a tuft of long grass and a small rock. Recently there was a tutorial vid to make tufts of grass from old brushes, so maybe I'll try that.

Everybody does bases differently. Some people like to make cool scenic basis and then glue/pin their models on afterwards. Some people paint the bases last, some paint them first.

I sand my bases before I prime the models, and then prime the sand and model all at once. Then I do all the messy drybrushing on the base right off the bat, then start painting the model proper. That way, I can clean up any of the drybrushing I get on the model's legs and ankles and whatnot.

Once the model is all done, I rim the base in black, and the apply whatever grass/snow/extrabits that I was going to add. And then it is done!

But I don't do super-fancy bases. I theme all of my Infinity exactly the same... which is super boring to some, but I plan on making my own ridiculous table one day, so I want them all to fit the same scheme.

So,

Instead of adding basing after the model was painted, I tried to base the following before painting. Because I was too lazy to search for plyers/cutter (we moved house past weekend, so everything is still stored up :p) I just based around the base slot, and plan on basing over the mini slot again.
Should I fill the gaps in the base of the Fiday with greenstuff?
I used regular white sand, and some gravel my dad had at his work. Apparently it's materials to add to paints to create matte effects etc. I noticed it's too small to get details really. I need to use a bigger grain to actually be able to highlight it I think, but I'll try this for now .

I obviously started with the female Hassassin, because Fiday & Lasiq I plan on painting a Yoko (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) scheme on the Fiday, and maybe a Browncoat scheme for the Lasiq. I do however want the models to fit my ghulam, so i'm not really clear how i'm going to paint individual distinctive schemes while mainting a certain order.
