so i decided to start wargaming again, this time it's Westwind productions SOTR (oh way to underrated game in my opinon ), and i willl be starting two separate armies with hopes to rope my other wargaming pals into it, Soviet rurvivors (whoch i've had for a while) as well as British heavy infantry (that i got yesterday), both are currently at 25RP

first out be the soviets which i finished painting earlier today

The interest of this game, seems a bit lackluster here :/
well, i'm not one to give up just yet. y'all have to ignore me much harder then this for me to go away and stop posting pictures

I painted the light tank for the brits today, and named it bumblebee, because it is a tiny tank, and bumblebee sunds quite endearing, don't it?

And a shot with Nika, to show of how tiny this tank is

Looking awesome. I hope to start that game at some point. Also I know how you feel, I have been posting in my painting and modelling blog for a while now and get hardly any responses in return.

Thanks, and yeah, but the log keeps me motivated, it'll die off for a while once im out of models, my next purchase is about 90 quid to add the next infantry squad and the weird elements

Also Oxide, it's a really fun game, iƤll hopefully be posting a battle report sometime this weekend.

Also, som progress:
British infantry squad

this one came of a bit blurry, sorry for that chaps.

I'm a bit in love with the concept of the "assault bren" essentiually a shorterned bren light machine gun the brits use for an assault rifle in 1949. 3 shots and infinte range, in contrast to the SMG's 12/24 inch range, but without the to hit modifier for short ranges

Edit: checked my language,

Yeah, I started my blogs as motivation because I had a lot of unpainted minis, as soon as I have finished painting what I have I'll only be posting miniature photos on deviantART as I get more feedback there.

I'm liking that British Infantry squad and the tank.

Dear Friend,

I find these miniatures very interesting, but must confess I know nothing about the game.

Are the miniatures 28mm? Also are they multi-part?

Thankyou for the interest sparking posts.

With Kind Regards

The Guern

@The Guern: the miniatures are 28mm, they are "heroic" buth it is not as insane as GW, they are one part metal figures, but the heads are separate, and WestWind sell tons of alternative heads.

@Mu, thanks, il'l try

@'oxide Motivation tends to become a problem after the generic soldier 30 right? good thing SoTr rearly brakes the 50 model mark

Looking really slick! I have the rulebook for SoTR but no miniatures.

Where do you live? If I remember correctly the game has a pretty solid following in Lund, with occasional tournaments, and even SM.

I'd love to get more into it at some point, but I think I'm gonna wait till the new book drops.

Again, looking really good. I'll be keeping two eyes on this blog. Also, make sure you check out Anatolis blog if you haven't already. He's focusing a lot on 15mm historicals right now, but it's got plenty of SoTR contents too, and great articles.

Fred.

@ fishy. yeah it was Anatolis blog that got me interested enough in the game to buy the rulebook, and the rulebook got me interested enoug to shell out 140 quid for two armies.

the Wargaming scene in Linkƶping is pretty dead, so i am limited to playing against my roomie or bringing them with me to my occasional visits to stockholm.

and if they ever start a new tournament down in Lund, i will attend darnit!

update, so i'm staying at home and painting today. and i finished the last 5 squaddies. so now there is just the machine gun team left.
then the Log will probably go a bit silent (hey, some people seem to read my ramblings/ look at my pretty pictures) it wont die, it'll just be a month or so before i can afford more figures.
but i plan to write a battle report of my first "real" game and i'll probably give a short overwiev/review of the game.

anyway, Squaddies!

sorry if they are a bit blurry, my camera's autofocus hates me.

The whole squad, together at last

I lied.

First out The soviet HAMMERJAW Mecha

Yes ladies and gentlemen, this war just got weird! and no, you are not seeing things, that is a t-34 tank with spider legs

moving on here is the corresponding addition to my british army, a Bazooka team and Sappers

the models are Warlord games american infantry i had lying around, coupled with west wind heads and bases.

the tommyguns were made by chopping the magazine of the m1a1 thompsons that came with the kit, and chopping of slices of the round bit of GW sprues. the flamethrower was med from a light mortar and tha tanks from SM flamers

As usual all comments, critiuque, praise and hatered are greatly appriciated

I finally managed to play a game today, two with my roomie playing the russians.
what follows is a battle report and since i cannot find a suitable subforum for it it goes on here.
there's a lot of boring text and crappy photos, you have been warned, and i had a ton of fun playing.
i'm really sorry for the image quality, but i took all photos, but all i had was my cell, and it was dark outside with only a crappy ceiling lamp for light, so i had to use flash, wich wreaks havoc on the autofocus, again, sorry.

Spoiler:
the table:

and our forces:
I deployed my forces in the Western corner of the map, with my infantry spread out, one on the northern edge, on on the southern togheter with my sapper team, with the mg team, command team and bazooka squad in thew westmost forest. with my opponent in the eastern hiding his mortar team and mecha in the forest, the infantry in the wheat field, and his command squad, and anti mech rifle team behind the apartment building.

The objective was to hold the square in the centre at the end of turn six, if both players had units in it, we whould engage in close combat unitl one unit fled.

I win initative round one and my sappers haul ass into the wheat field, whilst the russian mortar teams put a round on my MG team, downing one model but killing none. His command team, one sniper and at rifle team into the apartment building, and firing on my northern fireteam with his sniper and mecha, killing two. i move my squads forwards toward the square, using the walls as cover, my Stuart tank rolls forward and lets loose two of its machine guns, killing one and downing another of the russian infantry in the eastern wheat field.

Round two: Down rolls:British: mortar team member stands back up, northern fire team member stays down. russians: all stay down
my Stuart continue to lay down fire on the Infantry in the weath field, killing two and downing another, and my Bazooka team fires on the second floor of the apartment, destroying a wall and collapsing the roof, killing all models on the floor except the AT rifle, who is down and the the command squad fails their casualty test, becoming disorganized. my sapper moves cautiosly forward, dropping their smoke grenades to give them a nice -3 to hit from the cover and smoke, meaning that enemys cannot hit them without modifyers ( a bit hard to make 7+ on d6) other units move forwards and keeping low.
The spidermecha moves forward and fires it's main gun at the stuart, but misses. it does however fire it's pintle mounted MG on my souther fire team, killing one and downing the machinegunner
the mortar fires once again on my MG team, downing another man. the sniper shoots and kills one of my sapperps, causing them to panic and flee to the nereast cover, wich turns out to be the farmhouse, their flamethrower is now dangerously close the the infantry in the wheat field.

Round 3
Down rolls: British: mortar team gunner dies, soutern rifle teams (now down to two men, both down) stay down. Russians: AT rifleman succumbs, both men in the one soldies in the wheat field risies, the other stays down.
Orders: russian command squad regroups, so does my sapper unit.
Russkies win for initiative second time in a row (of wich they will continue to round 6) and immiedeatly fires on the sappers, killing two and downing the sergeant and flamethrower operator.
my stuart to eat dirt from the enemy mg fire in its rear armour, blowing it up. my bazooka team fires on the Spidermecha, hitting it's body and killing the pilot.
my infantry lay down suppressive fire on the enemy command, pinning them and preventing them to move or shoot. however the russian mortar hits my MG team again, killing them all.
my medic rushes over to the wounded in the northern field, hoping to save tham the next round.

Round 4
Down rolls: British; northern sergeant dies, but both sappers shrug off their wounds and continue onward. russians took no downs the previous turn.
Now i'm pissed; the sappers turn the flamethrower towards the wheat field and turn the terrifying weapon loose. killing four and setting the field on fire, the sergeant fires his tommy gun and downs the unit officer. The russian command team fires on the sappers, downing both remaing soldiers, my bazooka team tries to destroy the russian spider mecha, but only manages to score a leg hit, slowing it down. but it stumbles on forward and mows down the bazooka team with its machine gun. i move up my southern fire team into the objective plaza.

Round 5:
Down rolls: my flamethrower dies, but the sapper sergeant stands back up, and so does the russian sergeant.
I take pot shots with me remaining infantry, and move the infantry squad in the plaza so as to give its Ligt PIAT-D launcher a bead on the spider mecha. Russian takes pot shots but only kills on rifleman in the plaza, and the sniper tries to kill my commander but misses. My sapper sergeant charges the russian infantry sergeant in the now burning wheat field. but he gets struck down by the russian.

Round 6
With help from my medic the machine gunner from the northern rifle team stands back up and lurches forward, trying to suppress the sniper in the forest but failing. the remaining russians in the apartment building charges forward. my medic picks one of them off with his Webley service revolver and the squad in the plaza fires it's light rocket on the mecha, destroying it.
as our now decimated forces command squads clash on the plaza it goes down to the tie breaker were we engage in close vombat unitl a victor emerges, despite a numerical advantage the british loose to the russian superior close combat provess.

All in all, a fun game, with lots of twists and turns.
As usual, i'll try to answer alla questions i'm asked and i love attention and every comment you guys drop makes it worhwile and makes me feel less empty inside

or something of that ilk

Anywhoosies!
I painted the bazooka team today, after blowing up a building and killing a sniper and a anti tank rifle team, making up their points in one shot, they deserved it.

it's dark outside so i had to use flash, sorry about that.

I agre with you Scrazza i like the smaller games with more things to do with each unit, 40k is fun because lots of people play it, but the tactics tend to devolve into buying units and throwing them at the opponent.

Fishy: the battle was 35 points per side, and i've only got the MG team left before i get to start on the spider. i just got my mate to start so he is buying 50rp of germans, and i'll get another 15 points of british. after that i might get 15rp russians, probably i the from of another spider (because they are sooo cool) and an infantry squad. i also plan to replace the british stuart tank with a matalida tank, because i just found out Warlord Games makes a model for it

Update, i had nothing to do this evening so i painted the MG team, rakkatakka

i must say that this was probably the most bothersome model thus far to paint, and i'm not looking forward too the russian mortar team either.
but now i get to paint the spidermecha! and sometime next week my last 15rp brits should arrive togheater with new basing materials. (some static grass and clump foiliage)

The numbers are just random numbers. the text on the turret reads "Za Rodinu" lit "For the Motherland"
and on the legs it says Topat' meaning "Stomp" or "Trample"

I fnally got some time to paint so i painted the crew of the bumblebee.
The models are black tree design british dismoumted tank crew. In game all crewmen carry sub machine guns. But i bend the wysiwyg rule a bit because i like to have fitting models instead of just four generic blokes with SMG's
