Weetyskemian: Thanks I was worried about peoples reaction about alternative coloured orks but they have been positive.

Ok so I've got enough D&D minis done to play the first two scenarios they're not to shoddy considering I've rushed through half a dozen of the blighters. Here's a couple of them along with some orks from the summer.

Next the third Death Marshall....

Cheers Calbanite Lion I do love hunting through ebay for the old models, I think they help to add character to the army without me having to utilise my very poor modeling and sculpting skills.

Well again uni has taken over my spare time so not much progress on the painting front but I finished the third death marshall, an old edition runt herder and fixed up a war buggy that I broke while being a clumsy fool.
I found using a white undercoat to be a lot trickier than than my regular black one and not sure I'm a good enough painter to pull it off. So until my skills improve I think I'll return to good old black but with maybe a white drybrush to improve the colours.
Anyway here are the photos, as usual comments and criticisms most welcome.

They look really good I think -I especially like the runt-herder. I think your idea about starting with black and drybrushing white is a good one - sometimes I do It the other way round too - undercoat white and then wash with black

Cheers again Weety just had a look at your blog... wow love it, I think I'll give your white undercoat and black wash a shot after all I've got an almost full can of GW white undercoat lying about now.

Ok.... It has been another long break between posts I guess this blog will always be sporadic but uni is taking up more and more of my time and I decided to spend my time painting rather than just writing about it. Anyway although I'm still a bit fed up of painting the orks I have finally finished the first full squad of 30 boys with rocket and big shoota options and my first looted wagon.

As for the D&D board game Mrs Mu and I have had a couple of goes of it and found it lacking a bit for two players and I think it needs at least three to really play well, however it still helped to indoctrinate my better half in the world of mini-gaming "you're making me into a geek....". As an alternative simple mini game we are trying Song of Blades and Heroes so as well as the elf and the skeletons from the D&D game I quickly painted up enough minis for a couple of warbands. Still not actually had a game (this wednesday is penciled in) but I have high hopes for this game, it reminds me of old basic version of D&D and I really enjoyed painting up my old 80's minis from back in the day.
We have ended up with an elf and a chaos warband made up of old minis mainly citadel with the odd Ral Partha elf thrown in. Now I just have to resist ebay nostalgia binges.

And finally to add a bit more variety my first Anima Tactics mini from the light starter box.

Thanks for looking any comments or criticisms are appreciated.
Cheers Mu.

Back again and we've had a game of Song of Blades and Heroes and it was pretty fun even though I don't think we got the engagement rules quite right. Next time though I think we need some sort of treasure / magic item hunt to spice things up instead of just a straight battle. The game inspired me to see what ebay has to offer and I've managed to grab a few chaos warrior/thug type guys, a handful of broken warmachine and empire minis and a couple of dozen 80s Grenadier and Ral Partha D&D type fantasy plenty to keep me busy for the moment.
Firstly I've finally completed my guild boxed set with Lady J and The Judge, I love the Malifaux models but I'm not the greatest modeler and had a bit of trouble with The Judge's chain, hopefully it's not too noticeable:

Also from my last batch of ebay goodies a couple of chaos dudes and a pirate, again my lack of modeling skills is shown up by a bit of ropey greenstuff work on the pirates gun arm but I don't think he look too bad from the right angles.

Thanks again for looking, as usual any comments or criticism are welcome but if not that's cool too I'm a bit of a lurker myself, anyway time to return to the orks I think...
Cheers Mu

Yeah I kept wondering as I painted him, does it have a separate stomach? and What does he use the tongue for?

He just has the one stomach, he has no mouth on his head. In fact if you open his helmet you're left staring into the void itself.

The malifaux figs look great, vibrant but not glaring.

Did you ever get that saucer deff-kopta finished by the way?

Monkeytroll: Of course, what would be more handy than a multi-directional mouth and a really scary face you've got it spot on.
I did try the saucer deff-kopta but my skills were sadly lacking so I consigned it back to the bit box where it will stay till I get ol' Mad Doc Grotsnik up and painted by then my modeling ability should have improved to match the concept

Cheers icarianmirror, my next Malifaux box is Lillith's but I've also got a second hand box of the Ortega family as well as the odd single figures I've picked up on a whim. So plenty to keep me busy...

Back again, with just a little update. Finished off the last couple of orks for by Shoota Boyz mob, I had a bit of a disaster with the superglue and the rokkit boy but I think I managed to rescue him.
As for the other mini my thanks goes out to Cruentus and Porkuslime for identifying it for me, it's called a Fachan and is a Ral Partha sculpt of a Runequest monster that has it's roots in Scottish folklore. It also seems to go by the name of Palesmurt in some areas of Russia.

The Fachan's colour scheme is a trial run for my mature Nephilim, he turned out a bit too orange and garish but I've a couple of old ogre and troll minis to try out a few alternatives. Next up an old chaos dwarf, a chaosy knight guy and the big guy with the enormous sword from the Anima Tactics Light starter box.

the fachan is cool. Maybe I'm not seeing the orange garishness because there is a slightly blue cast to your photos?

Scotland

Yeah I think I ,might have auto-corrected the orange-ness out of them.
If you imagine him having a fake tan courtesy of GW's Bronzed Flesh you'll get an idea on how he looks in the.. er.. flesh.
It makes him look like something from Ray Harryhausen's Sinbad films, suits a mini of that vintage I think.

Preposterous monsters, dancing girls, the occasional Dr Who and the oddest collection of arabian accents you will ever hear.
Perfect Sunday afternoon staple.

So I'm busier than I've ever been, one thesis and one exam done and dusted three more to go, need more time. Still managed to get a couple of figures done, another couple of old minis a Ral Partha fighter and an old chaos dwarf. I had loads of trouble with the dwarf's face, I just gave up and botched it in the end. The other one from this batch is the guy with the really big sword that comes in the Anima Tactics light starter box. His colour scheme was inspired by the 1980s Dr. Who Galifrean guards, not quite sure if I got there in the end but I'm happy with the result.

Thanks for looking and as usual any comments or criticisms are welcome, next up the dwarfs and skeletons from the Dwarf King's Hold game...

Yeah djphranq, I like how Anima Tactics are not afraid to mix different styles and themes a bit like Malifaux does.
It keeps me interested and appeals to the collector in me.

Just a little update, despite being busier than I've ever been managed to get a couple of minis painted, I was home alone last weekend so I had an extra bit of me-time. I've started on the figures needed for the first scenario of Mantic game's Dwarf King's Hold. On the whole I think they're great minis. I do like the slightly cartoony style, especially the dwarfs but they are not perfect. At some points armour just sort of melts into the cloaks and chainmail rings turn into long grooves. Still they are fun to paint and make great playing pieces. Anyway less wittering more photos...

I've got another five skellingtons left to go so to stop me getting bored I've got an ogre to test out a colour scheme for my Nephilim, a little fighting lady to practice my detail work and a cthullu deep terror thingy which I might not put up as he is a full frontal nudie.
Anyway thanks for looking and as usual any comments are appreciated, cheers.

I really like the nice range of models you are painting, Lady J is my favourite so far her skin tone is really well done.

I've yet to paint a mini that isn't clad in power armour since I picked up painting again.

Thanks GirafffeX, I try and put a bit more effort in my Malifaux and Anima minis. I'd recommend doing the odd random mini just for fun, it helps keep me interested when I find my enthusiasm drop.

Great to see some more Malifaux on here. The Anima Tactics stuffs looking good as well and the old skool stuff's great. I rather like the idea of the varying skin tones with the Orks as well. Although all mine are green as I just alternated models for other armies to keep my interest high.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
