Hello one and all, I am back from a serious hiatus of considerable time...
The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated, I passed my Regeneration rolls
So onto the grand plan:
WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLE:
I currently have two whfb armies on the go, one has been going a tad longer than the other, info to be found in their spoilers.
i
Spoiler:
Ogres:
These are my first full fantasy army, for which I have a lot of love for them. They are the Slavetaker tribe, It's slaughter-tyrant a ruthless bugger,
cursed by a daemon during a binding ritual in a Dawi Zhar stronghold, and now is half ogre, half stone, and imbued with traces of daemonhood.
There isnt much painted or touched on these guys in quite some time tbh, as I'd either been sidetracked by 40k or on a hobby break. Hoping to
rectify that soon though!!!
ii
Spoiler:
Undead Legions:
Having taken me probably over a decade to decide on my second whfb army, the coming of the End Times helped me decide once and for all.
I'd always loved Vampire Counts, but when their army book stopped allowing the bloodlines, I lost a bit of interest for them. Then with the Tomb
Kings return, I became more interested again, but never fully in either army. The End Times: Nagash book amalgamated all I loved of both books
into a single amazing army, and now I'm hooked well and truly.
Gotta love a skellybob afterall! (blame Harryhausen)
I've always loved Nagash's story, along with that of Arkhan the Black's and Krell, whose loyalty to him have always been unwavering. With that, my
list has become based upon that relationship within the fluff. I've also keyed my list towards the sections of the End Times: Nagash story that I loved most.
None is currently painted, mainly as I've been focusing on collecting enough of a force to do the list justice, but again, hope to change that soon.
WARHAMMER: 40,000:
As for 40k, I have expanded... a lot...
i
Spoiler:
Tyranids:
These guys are a labor of love... since roughly 2nd ed I've loved these guys, during the heady era of red, and the bucktoothed tyranid warriors
(might by why I dated my ex lol). I started this army during 5th ed and haven't looked back. I know what your all saying, "why on earth did I start them
in 5th?", well it was on purpose tbh, as I knew the list was gak. But we got some of the coolest mini's I'd seen in a while, and so it began...
The fluff for my Hive Fleet is one of them pursuing Biomass from a Imperial Ordos Xenos planet, which catalogues and stocks samples of Xenos
genetic data from all over the cosmos. Set during the time of Leviathan, my fleet has specialised its genetic talents towards a shared vision through
blindness, being able to see the battlefield as one entity by using a highly developed hive sense, the fleet also specifically camouflages its creations
for each prey world, gaining the data from vanguard organisms ahead of planetfall.
The following is also a link to a long forgotten short story about my hive fleet.
Firstly I'll point out that I only see the Eldar race as a whole, not its constituent parts, as such, what follows is the plans for my beloved Eldar.
I've loved eldar since I first saw a gw miniature, which as it happens was an eldar model! Its taken me some time to getting around to starting them,
but during my hiatus I did just that, and have acquired a sizeable collection as well. It's a craftworld of my own design and making, called Yggdrannithar.
They were one of the last to leave the core systems during the Fall, and bore a sizeable portion of the backlash of she who thirsts birth. This
wiped out nearly all of their aspect warrior hosts, and as they were reeling from this, further more of their number fled into the void as the remaining
members succumbed to a torpor like plague, which forced the host into being trapped in their own bodies with no chance of escape other than the
infinity circuits of the craftworld. If matters weren't bad enough, the vast ship spiralled out to the very edges of the galaxy uncontrolled. Now, with their
ship moored forever on the edge of the universal void, they have recovered enough to wage war on the galaxy which almost forgot them. They
descend on worlds wreathed in shadow and mist, the dead reborn in Wraithbone constructs, while their living kin play on the natural fear of all races.
My dark eldar are much the same, being the wych cult of strife, they strike from the webway on unsuspecting worlds to hone their deadly skills, lead
by their mistress, Lelith Hesperax. A chance encounter between Yggdrannithar and the Cult of Strife has led them to fight along side one another on
many an occasion. Neither the Triumverate council of Yggdrannithar or Lelith see that the differences of their divergent lines should split their race
any longer, it has been over 10,000 years after all. Together the council and Lelith see the galaxy needs reminding of its place in the grand scheme
of things.

Spoiler:
Miscalaneous:
As for the rest of my armies, Necrons, Iron Warriors, Protectorate of Calliope etc. Well they are all on deep sleep and pretty much retired for now.
Sorry... Like James Bond, they will return however
Thinking you muchly... Just awaiting (impatiently) my Tervigon order... Only bought the one so far as I'm trying to not buy too much and over face myself, as for once, I actually want a fully painted army
ok... i have to say...i one wanted to start a nid army too...but than the prospect of the limited possibilities individual minis put me off... but reading your fluff... the oncoming raid of the xenolab... i think there is a huge potential to have lots of different looking minis...
hopefully you are receiving your mini soon...
and you have no other minis for now? well i call that restrained...which i am not able to do...so hat is off to you sir!^^

It isn't restrained Vik when you have no money and have to limit your purchases otherwise you'll starve...
Wayland are out of stock so I'm waiting for them to get their collective @$$ in order and send me the damnedable thing :facepalm
I'm still attempting to figure out what I'm actually going to do for conversions, I usually go subtle with stuff like this.
You say you go subtle with conversions. What kind of conversions would you want in your swarm, is there a running theme you want to impart or would it just be conversions for the sake of fun.
High toxicity is the main theme. which is why the colour scheme is going to be natural but sickly greens.
I like my armies to be set apart from everyone else's, so I do a lot of conversions within then, usually on the big models. and especially on the characters.
Perhaps you could do green poison slime with some water effects with green ink in it. Also the acid maw heads for the Carnifex and Genestealers would be good ones to use. Save up all the Genestealer acid heads and put them in one brood.
You could also do some toxic stuff on their bases, toxic waste warning, barrels etc. Snake fangs and stings on the Tyranids themselves will help to imply they are poisonous. You could try a cobra-like hood on a Hive Tyrant, a rattlesnake's tail may help too.
I don't like to over complicate things either, most conversions I do, to me at least, are relatively simple. For the armies shrikes and Flyrant, I'm having their tails as LW's as well as Scytal-BS hybrid weapons. because I'm considering having ravener's as the basis of the Shrikes, that way I can have the devourers mounted in the chest cavity, and still be able to have flexibility of taking scytals and LW&BS or Scytals and Devourer combi.
The flyrant will have a similar idea, but without a Devourer cavity in his chest.
The Mawloc is planned to be converted to match the corresponding image in the Codex.
The Trygons will be varied so they don't match.
Termagants and Gargoyles will be basic.
Everything in the army willl have TS's even if they aren't paid for, to represent their toxicity.
That sounds good. I have been in the process of converting Raveners into Shrikes and they look good. One thing I think you should change is using Shrikes with devourers. Termagants can carry that weapon for a tiny fraction of the price and Shrikes are very pricey. Put the Shrikes speed to the best use by giving them boneswords and or lashwhips.

I'm not having Deilgants as it just doesnt feel right in my list, its all about termi-spamming for the nature of this army.
As you know the Raveners come with a chest piece for the devourer, so i'll be modeling it with them. but most likely I'll set them up with with LW & BS as standard run, but as I said above, they will be modelled to be flexible.
It isn't restrained Vik when you have no money and have to limit your purchases otherwise you'll starve...
been there, done that...and saved for extra money with empty bottles to get me something to eat^^ now with family of course i have way more control over myself..
Hell, I've been doing this hobby since '93, I don't owe GW anything after the money I've pumped into them. So now I show with Waylandgames. 20% off isn't to be sniffed at
ohoh... hopefully the nid doesn´t get lost inbetween flathopping
and who´s owning GW anything^^ i only use lots of their stuff because i think it is quite handy for my own needs... but i never stepped into a shop of theirs and came with more than a pot of paint from them... the rest i own is all ebay... i had a quite succesfull run last year on lots of stuff... hunting for bitzboxes still is a hobby of mine^^
oh...that is not that hard... i have done so before... nid terrain... dne with a hot glue gun... quite easy... or for that matter i have used air dry clay and shaped these:
Lol understandable, My plan is spore chimneys of vast proportions as well as buildings being (re)claimed by tendrils a la "Red-Weed" (war of the worlds)
well... it sure would be interesting to see a story out of the perspective of suzch a beast... maybe a hivequeen...or some other special character...not first peron actually but more like an allknowing and all seeing beholder? (dunno if that was the right word...)
oh...and what kind of material do you want to do those chimney with? plastic, wood, clay? any ideas yet?
hmmm... for such tall structures a good skeleton is a must in my opinion...and you choice of materials sounds good...also you could try to make some structures out of wire...twisted wire at that... looks good...and also of course as mentioned earlier hot glue...then when done mould it and you are set...
naaahhh... you live you learn...the process of learning is what you are aiming for...not the finished product...if you keep to that train of thought there is no possible way to fail! keep that in mind...
oh...depression...now that is something i feel at home with...too bad sadly...there is next to nothing that can be done with that as i have come to unbderstand...and when i am in a dark mood...it tends to spread...
challenge? which one? i am all for a good challenge tho i am atm at a loss to which^^
the challenge of writing a short story from the perspective of a Tyranid... having said that there will be no speech what so ever... it's all descriptive. hmmmm
A story from the point of view of a Tyranid could be interesting. I doubt they would form sentences in their minds like we do. They also don't think as individuals because they have no sense of self but as groups.
AnUnearthlyChilde wrote:the challenge of writing a short story from the perspective of a Tyranid... having said that there will be no speech what so ever... it's all descriptive. hmmmm
gimme a nudge when you have something to read...i am very interrested to read something like that!
Shall do, currently trying to nail the final sections of The Fall of Calliope VI, which should be available by midnight GMT or at the very latest tomorrow morning.
On the other side of things my Tervigon is in the post... somewhere
Currently reading Generation-X by Douglas coupland, then I'll be moving on to Fahrenheit 451. I read a lot of "punk" books, about dystopian societies. 1984 being my favourite all time read.
for some reason i never read or watched 1984... i heard too much already... kind of keeps me from it... but i quite liked farenheit 451... the quote in the bookcover i like...maybe your english version doesn´t have it...
wenn sie dir ein liniertes Blatt Papier geben, schreibe quer dazu"
translates to... if you get a piece of lined paper , write sideways...
ohoh... well it was bound to end like that... i really hate it when one is forced to hide like a rat in a hole... if it was me in that situation i would have taken my life...but well i doubt that a true believer in the emperors might would do that... so your story´s ending was to the point! for a moment i wondered if the Lord Huginn would have turned into something tyranid hybrid like... by the way... that could have been a way to get into that storytelling via POV of a nid...
Right, so this morning I was rudely awoken by the postman to have a big brown box thrust in my sleep filled eyes...
MAH BIG MOMMA TERVIGON ARRIVED, YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH BABEH!!!
Ahemmmm... Anywho, so I sarted building the badboy... I have to admit, I wasn't expecting it to be THAT big... a few problems with the build, mainly not being able to find half my ruddy tools, and my greenstuff going missing... which is a bugger as one of the plans for the army is to fill all eye sockets (I don't like the look of nids with eyes... imo it makes them individuals rather than a teeming mass).
I was 50/50 on using the fleshborer hive arms on the Tervigon as well... but decided to save them for my Flyrant maybe (will have to test fit them when I get the model). But because I felt the scytals that come with the tervigon are a little on the large side, I've ordered two sets of the mini-scytals from the mawloc, mainly because I think as a birthing nid wouldn't have massive claws... rather just something that it can defend itself with... So back to being patient again and waiting on the post. not sure whether I'm going to order Tervigon number two at the weekend or a batch of termagants, OR possibly the resin bases.... choices choices...
and you already made good progress with the build...
as for the tervigon with big claws... i think the logic you want to have underlying this model is more human then nid... for these beasts being able to chuck out more monsters if main goal...not getting them hurt due to claws... you wont get a mental image for a cudly tervigon that is cradleing a termagant after birthing^^
oh...and i think it would be best you go for termagants as some small minis to test your scheme on will come in handy... you woulnd´t want to risk messing the big one before you really figured out the scheme?
Good that you got Big mama. If yiou do use smaller scything talons you can just decide not to equip it with any additional weapons because they are optional. It may help to keep you points value down if you're worried about that.
Sod it, I was impatient... here's some pics of the slight changes I made to the Tervigon.
Automatically Appended Next Post: p.s. needs greenstuffing and considering I know not where it has walked off to, I need to buy some new stuff as well as a new sculpting tool....
damn this hobby, damn it in its arrow shot knee!!!
ah fair enough lols, well I was chuffed to be on the font page
I think I might order the Termagants next with some replacement greenstuff, that way I'll have half my 500pt list with extras for birthing. then I'll move on to painting the next time I get money after than.
Automatically Appended Next Post: As I also need to save money for the resin bases... which will be a lot. lol.
Reeet, so I found me some GS at 5am lols... and decided to knuckle down to finish off the mild conversions I did, so here's some piccys for you to peruse
Hang on, if you don't like tyranids with eyes does that mean your going to redo all of the 138 models in your list with no eyes.... because that would be epic really looking foward to seeing your scheme for these, really hope its super sinister.
bigfish wrote:Hang on, if you don't like tyranids with eyes does that mean your going to redo all of the 138 models in your list with no eyes.... because that would be epic really looking foward to seeing your scheme for these, really hope its super sinister.
Yup, no eyes what so ever on any of the models lols.
tis a task and a half... but one I will but up for. Also don't forget all the extra Termagants I need to get for spawning too lols
what have I let myself in for...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh as an additional note I'm going to start sketching ideas for terrain shortly to fill the time between Nid orders... as Wayland takes forever to get its stock in, I may as well busy myself with other hobby related stuff...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's some of the things from Fallout: 3 that I'm considering for terrain pieces... not sure exactly which one's I'll settle on but still. early days ^_^
I thought it'd be cool to have a destroyed overpass running through a board...
This one's a definite, except the top is going to be blown open and willed with toxic looking water effect...
This one I'm tempted with, but crossed with architecture from Bioshock to create a joined twin towered building. very similar to the old "Space Marine" (1st ed epic) buildings.
Will work on some sizes/scales later, as I'm not sure how big I want them to be yet.
I want them to be big enough to move freely through and about but not too big that they will get in the way of game play... I might also do a series of planks like you find in mutant infested buildings to make the overpass playable on for its entire length.
hey mate...good GS work all over!!! and that wasn´t a half arsed compliment... i mean it! looks very good...and the little structures you even copied!
also i like how daring you are to tackle the non-eyed look for your nids... have you thought about making yourself some aliens shaped heads? i know maybe a little overdone for nids... so better just keep the non eyed look... that alone will make them look very cool... and sometimes you just need the big stuff to get the thing you want!!! so i cross my fingers for your to see this through!
and... well those terrain ideas... yes!!! will look very cool on any table! also the blown off and filled with goo tower! yes! could cont as one of those devouring pools nids use...^^
Thanks for the compliments Vik, I was considering using the chapterhouse alien heads... but as I'm buying the static pose Termagants, it's too much fart-arsing about to get the heads attached. But yeah, I'd been there already lols...
Yeah I love no eyed nids, I just didnt find the very human-esque eyes particularly niddy
I'm going to focus on doing the first 500pts of my army, then move onto some terrain I think... It'll make a nice break between pts increments I think. plus it's going to take me a while to finish 500 pts as I need to buy a bucketload of resin bases for all the extra damned termagants that will get spawned ¬_¬
Already started mulling over ideas to make the support pillars for the overpass. then I'll cast them and sell them to DSlols
have you considered making your own bases with air- dry clay and PVA? also there is this thread... (forget where...) where someone made a puddle of PVA and then sprinkled super glue on... the effect is mindblowing to say the least... maybe i can find it...
and...
will the non eyed heads then be all bony? you could add some small bumpy texture to the heads thus...
Nah, I've my heart set on the blasted wasteland bases I linked on here. plus it saves me a lot of effort, as I fear I'll be putting a lot of effort into GS on the army.
Yeah funny you should say that... I was considering brow ridges on them all, a bit like the tervigon, but just one central one... kinda like a streamlining paddle sort of thing... if that makes sense?
I'm making my Termagant order at midnight tonight (tis when I get paid), so as soon as I get some through I'll knock a few together and see If I can't get something working for them...
having said that, I just realised I'm buying between 60-80 Gaunts, and I'd have to replicate the ridges on all of them lols.
plus I'd have to do a variant of it on all the other miniatures as well... Although I want a gargoyle similar crest for the Flyrant.
well... you make your first termagant... like you want it to be...
then you lube it all up...the part you want to copy... then you get a bigger blob of GS around the lubed head and let it cure there... after that...peel off... lube again... put the right amount of GS inside and aply said moulded GS to the next head of a termagant... done!
Viktor von Domm wrote:well...to be honest i am a smart mouth ...here...^^ never tried it for my own needs... but that might change soon... tho i am at a loss on what^^
I'm considering something akin to the aliens in Pitch Black for the termagants... just without the hammerhead bit... I want vertical rather than horizontal blades on the head. if you understand me?
Automatically Appended Next Post: This is what I'm meaning ^_^
yep... i copy you al right here... hmmm... will you make them all by yourself? sculpt them all alone or will you get some help by means of bitz? i think this idea could be done without any bitz...

ohoh... well...many sculpters use K-yelly for their lubing of the sculpting tools... i use water... i dont want to rinse off the built each time i start working with it...
at childe...:
btw... I'm considering the full Pitch black head for the flyrant now ^_^
thumbsup:
and it was a pug dog with a predator face... not really important...^^
any way... time for bed now...
cheers, and good night to all...and ...no threadjacking for tonight!!!
Well I want a Dremel + workstation + snake attachment + router attachement, as well as a scroll saw, some new clamps, a mitre, and thats to name but a few things...
... although I'm sure I could have bought something off of that list instead of getting peirced today... meh.
So I kept looking at mama tervigon and something was bugging me... I wasn't sure what at first, but then I realised it was the support legs at the front... so I've chopped and rejiggled them to suit something more "natural" and I think it's much better... Also I've reverted back to my original Idea of having "stubby" scything talons as it's forelimbs as the ones that it came just looked too long to me tbh.
Images attached! plus I've included some of my chaos giant and IW Captain Howlet (someone out there should get the reference)
Hehehe I know But it was worth it, because I ended up building 11 chaos renegades, and painting another 10! and I got to go to a photography class with my mom~
only sweet fourteen cap? wouldn´t have guessed...respect... not that crazy as even older guys are on here^^
and UAC...that momma is looking good...specially i just noticed you have built her with her talons stuck in the ground... i call that a nice lil detail! i like that!
the chaos SM is a very neat looking mini too... subtle highlights... very good looking!
and that giant... very disturbing... nerver saw that ... would like to see a painted version to see more details...
One day I'll get the giant finished lols... maybe...
I just need the mini Scytals to finish off momma tervigon number one... should be early next week when the post resumes I hope. Yeah it didn't make much sense that such a MC would be able to walk on legs like that and not dig is talons into the ground...
For momma number two, I'm doing a complete remodel of the leg possitions so it looks like its running/walking.
nope...that name didn´t ring a bell...where was it from?
well the talon thing....not many peeps would notice that... but that way it looks way more convincing...like she is clenching the bedsheats like an expecting mother...
ok...i didn´t look it up earlier but after looking it up the look of the mini should have been a clue...a definite clue even...thothat real name of logan has escaped my notice...for now...when was that name revealed? i haven´t read comics for quite some time now...read all the stuff up to 2003 i guess... and i mean everything marvel put out back then...i think i stopped around the first xmen movie...after that they did some wierd relaunches and that put me off...
Wolvering: Origin's and for those who say it isn't canon, it was also revealed in the main x-men plot when Quentin quire went mental, killed one of the stepford coocoo's and rampaged through the x-mansion.
current x-men is fatastic, just started reading Avengers Vs. X-men which promises to be a good story...
Oh and if you haven't read House of M, do it, because it changed the face of X-men altogether.
i cought some glimpses in a shop once of the german dubbed version of house of M i think... i am confused with all the characters now on...
forgot the origins movie... i quite like that movie... for many reasons... gambit looked convincing to me... deadpool was just awsome and blob.,..lol...he was da bomb^^
also i liked his wife (forgot her name... but the actress is now staring in john carter too... she is really hot!!!)
and well what can i say... hughe jackman as logan is just the best thing a comic character has ever gotten for!!!
to be fair we watch the old avengers series on tv atm... and they like it...well that is not saying the half of it... it isn´t usually the norm in germany to have a small four year old boy running around trying to look like cap america...
So I remembered I had some Carnifex laying about somewhere... So upon digging them out and placing them next to Momma Tervigon... I learn they are three times smaller than the spawn-momma...
WTF?
I don't get it... Fex' are supposed to be line breakers... Tervigon's must be the size of ruddy land raiders by comparison

but inside a tervi is all the goey gaunts and stuff, that takes up space for muscle. Whereas the carni is a short small muscle monster. Although i do agree it is a bit weird
As Its easter weekend and post apparently doesnt exist at this time of year... I decided to finish off converting the Carnifex that have been sitting about for years gathering dust...
Basically I've changed where the arms fit as well as sculpting new sockets for the arms and extending the carapace over the eyes. No eyed Nids are so much more sinister ^_^
Will put some pics up during the day tomorrow some time. But damn, I wish I had my Termagants and Tervigon arms to finish the buggers off.
I like mah bugs way too much to do the BA's yet cap lols... plus I need to settle on a list of some kind, which takes me a while, as I draft, re-draft and deca-draft lols
Yeah, was going to post them for consideration, its not going to be a competetive list, more one fitted to the role of the story.
I keep having the idea of running an escalation style campaign with the BA army, with some inquisitorial help vs my Nid army. but that is a very long way off. as it requires me o make some expensive FW purchases lols.
Sooooooo as I have to wait another day for my stumpy arms for momma Tervigon, I thought I'd post some images of the 'Fex I've been working on for the last few days. Just need to finish the others off at some point
but being a man that has well...even two SM armies on the backburner i can´t point an ugly finger in your direction really...but well nids first... we really need to see your firt one painted!
Lol, it'll happen Vik... Just focusing on modelling/converting first, then will settle down to painting after the first 500pts are bought/assembled/converted.
Just got back from town, and picked up a couple of items I needed/wanted...
The first being Liquid greenstuff. I just tried some out, and well... I'm a bit hit and miss on it tbh... its good, but don't expect wonders with it...
the other was some new files and some antiseptic spray for my ear... tis a tad swollen lols :S
Automatically Appended Next Post:
EDIT: Also just received an email saying my Termagants have been posted. woot!
Don't be afraid of the liquid GS- they shouldn't have called it that, it's really nothing like 2-part epoxy putty at all. It's just resin filler paste. Good old-fashioned Squadron Green Putty is still superior as far as I'm concerned for filling cracks (it doesn't stick to your finger)
The sticking to my finger bit doesn't bother me tbh, I feel I'm quite adept at normal GS, tis just the liquid stuff I've got to get used to lols. its useful, but a bit of a pain at the same time.
Yeah, I don't think you can sculpt a bedroll out of it, so therefore it isn't really GS to me.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, liquid GS sticking to your finger is really good at transferring your textured fingerprints to gak you don't want it to.
lmfao... fair enough, I love to sculpt tbh. but thats me being an artist... going to start sculpting a Mycetic spore soon, will be doing it to cast up as well ^_^
i once did a mycetic spore with a light ball and lots of hot glue...looked quite freaky...if interested go have a look in my galery...called hive fleet basilisk...
Ok, so I'm seriously thinking of building a Strormbird 40k scale...
but I need opinions...
here's my ideas so far for what a Stormbird needs:
Folding/extending wing's/wing-sections. (see HH books)
Large mount cannons. Maybe Turbo-lasers/Battle-cannons? (see HH books)
Can house at least 50 men, although I think it should be more but also maybe I can offset that against my next suggestion.
Can transport vehicles (see attached images)
Has several defensive wepons.
Has several wing mounted Hellstrike missiles.
Have I missed anything?
Now I want to design something boardering the original images (top two), the Thunderhawks (both troop carrying and transporter) and something of my own. I want to be as faithful as I can to the orignals, but without them looking dated, if that makes sense?
I also have been looking at the stormbird/stormraven and the Ceastus assault ram for inspiration too. As I think a lot of ideas can come from these.
One idea being Mag clamps on the under hull of the Stormbird for 4 rhino's or 2 land raiders. it is a larger thunderhawk transporter after all. But incorporating boarding tunnels that link to either the top double doored hatch on the rhino's or the rear hatch open. AS also I want it to not only transport Vehicles but Troops. it's going to be a big beast, but it should be one.
So whats your thoughts? ATM this is only in the design phase, so bear that in mind
Well considering the Thunderhawk has a transport capacity of 30, and with what little info there is on them, a stormbird transports 50ish marines. that isnt so bad lols. considering I want mag clamps underneath for rhino transport too lols. I think when I finally write up rules for it, it'll be 50 models straight, regardless of jump packs or terminator armour.
lols, I was planning on doing an interior with it as well... so the figure case Idea was nice, but probably not for this project
BTW, would a turret mounted Vulcan mega bolter be out of place on the top of it?
Anywho, Termagants have arrived, which may only be 30 of the little blighters... but that is a lot of green stuff work to be done today to make the eyes disappear :/
well...i like the idea...both...and here is my thought concerning the endeavor...
you stated that you want to make that magnetic clamp thingy for vehicles...
so why not make one build for the two needs...? built the basic shape, and then you build a "container" like structure for the troop compartment...i am thinking here starshiptroopers dropship style..:
only of course you have to scale and style it to the 40k universe a lot...
as for the guns...well...i am not sure if i know what weaponsystem that would be...helpful pics would be nice...
but i guess with such a big bird nothing speaks against big guns...
oh and good luck and have fun getting rid of the eyes of those creepers^^
Cheers for the input Vik... I see what you mean about duel purpose, but I was planning on having a built in troop compartment that led to embarcation tunnels for the rhino's. As in the HH books, they described the troops being held in place much like a drop pods harness.
Yeah thats what I thought Dave, as I figured a vulcan mega bolter would pretty much be AA as well as AI, I will be mounting twin-linked lascannons as well, and possibly some other guns, as I also figure it'd be heavily armed.
Oh and thanks for the good luck Vik... I'm going to need it. I'm assembling in batches of 10, then greenstuffing. The order that arrived today is only 30 of 90 Termagants needed lols. then there'll be 30 Gargoyles.
Ah that be a bugger regarding the Stormbird... not many pics exist of them, as they never made an epic saleable one, and all other images are from Rogue Trader era, so vary massively...
Yeah I know what you mean about rewarding, I think its a solid concept, just takes a while to do lols.
Thanks Vik, I found that one a while back, he's on Dakka somewhere too. He's the manager of wakefield GW in the UK (or was at the time of making lols)
My idea of the Stormbird is a little different to that design, as all of the stormbirds successors are boxy, so I figure there will be a similar design to it.
My Marauder Destroyer only has twin-linked bolters and a minigun donkey-gun for AA defense, I think a vulcan would be good!
It'll look cool-as hell too! The housing for the Stormlord Vulcan has very recognizable Marine-vehicle angles IMHO
Yep, you really need to stick to the style, remember the old Haloween Costume rule: If it needs explaining...It wasn't that good of a costume to begin with
the only thing I'm planning on doing differently is the access ramps, I'm making the forward one wide like the old RT image, and there will be a rear access ramp too, for munitions/jump troops.
heh... tbh that just seems logical to me... if it's going to be epically scaled, then it needs a detailed interior. I'm looking at it from a FW perspective too.
Don't worry I'm still focusing on my Nid's... the stormbird is pipeline material, which will take a lot of designing... As I will only start to build it once I'm happy with the design
Automatically Appended Next Post: NOTE: Oh, and ten Termagants assembled and green-stuffed
Lols I meant Ironic as well, the Empire was pretty much Nazi's in space... Which reminds me, I better download Iron Sky ^_^
Steampunk Nick Fury would be cool... but I have to ask... are you blind in one eye, smoke cigars, rock the stubble look, and are a hit with all the ladies? If no to any of those, you ain't nick fury lols
Automatically Appended Next Post: BAH! It's not released yet :(
Iron Sky hasn't had all of it's release yet it seems... so certain countries have had it, but no english speaking ones yet for me... I think Germany has had it's release... damn you
actually i think the nazi´s will be pretty trashed and laughed upon ...so it is more comedy...we had recently quite a lot silly movies showing the third reich...
even there is an adaption of the TV show the office...that playes with hitler and his chums in an office setting...quite the britih sense of black humor here... and it is a complete german show...
well... there is a movement going on in private television... copy and convert as much as posiible succesful tv shows and tv movies...from other countries...some are crap others are just right...
Well all 30 Menopause gaunts (just for you Vik) have been stuck together, with only 10 green stuffed... it's taking a while... and it's rather annoying :(
So to break the tedium I decided to finish off Carnifex No.4 who I now need some super glue for as I forgot It had pins in it and I remodelled the legs DOH!!!
So thats something else to buy next weekend, which also Includes a large batch of Resin bases from Secret Miniatures... can't wait to get those bad boys... then after that I'll start buying paints to get this first section under way ^_^
i have thought... maybe you use the wrong material for covering the eyes? maybe green putty would be the more suitable material? you could really spead up your works if you use a premixed something instead of endlessly mixing the GS together and then sculpting...because as i understand it you are merely covering the bumbs and creases on the head and this could be done smooth with putty instead of GS??? beside i imagine it to be cheaper as well?
I'm actually extending the Chitin plate on the forehead over the would-be eyes. GS is brilliant for this purpose, it's just the shaping of it which takes a while. it's not a problem... I just wanted to moan about it lols
ah so the GS work is more detailed... i thought you just wanted it to look flush with the rest of the head... but now i see...or better would see if you would show...
Oooo thats your avatar!?!?! Steampunk Fury and Spiderman look cool, the Capt is a bit dissapointing I must say, but now i want to see a steampunk hulk, that is just a guy in a large green steam machine!
unfortinatly not sir, its much more difficult trying to find a sutible nid banner compared to the easy zombie ones i made, btw i always thought that the rule was Foot of Gork, not Foot of Papa Nid!
