Maybe you could paint the barrels black or drill them if you had the time. The DMM looks kinda weird without it IMO. Still a great army though

I love what you do with your weathering, I also love your colour scheme, the Templar Stormshield are a nice Nod to the progeny of the Imperial Fists. Now, for a little criticism (please don't get upset) i love you paint scheme, but I can often see mould lines. Which is disappointing because you are a good painter, but the lines just seem to pop, especially on certain models or flat armour surfaces also drilling out the bolter barrels and weapons . Please don't be upset, I mean this as positive criticism, because if you got these nailed it would be A+ not A- in my eyes. Ending on a positive note, nice to see that you are a Salavager like me, buying old or badly done miniatures and resurrecting them.

Yup, its the way you paint is quite interesting. It's like impressionism, you get a really good effect without painting every detail in. I also love the weathering, I like my Marines to look like they've been earning their kills, with heavily pock marked, dented and dirty armour. Parade Ground Troops look smart, Infantry on the field will be dirty or else they aren't fighting hard enough.
Yes I really like your painting, the airbrushing of the base colour over the White primer gives a really nice look to the whole force.

I love the weathering on the vehicles, but you need to do the same on the foot-troops in order to tie them together, not a lot but enough that it adds depth and ties them alll together.

absolutely!!!! thanks for aking and im glad you like them. Well the process is really quick and easy! i use weathering powder from vallejo, burnt umber is the one i use. if you want to put it on thick its best to dip the brush in the pigment then dip it in rubbing alcohol. but for a thin layer i just brush dry pigment on. then i use a q-tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol to clean off areas where the yellow should show i hope this helps!

Thank goodness GW finally has a yellow worth using.
Great work so far. How long has it taken you to get to this point? I'm working on the third Company and have been for about ten months longer than I've been on Dakka here and I'm still not finished. I have 3 bikes to finish, two tac squads a dev. squad and 4 Rhino's.
I must admit I did stop for 8 months and build a 2500pt 'Nid army, with enough models to get it up over 3000 still unfinished.
I must say I like that you have the Templar shields, it adds some flavor to the unit but it shows honor to the successor chapter, perhaps if those marines had been in the legion at the second founding they would have gone off into that grand army of Dorn's children so righteous is their fury toward the Xeno's, the mutant and above all the Heretic. ANd like everyone else has mentioned great photowork and skill with that pic of Lysander, the facial work you did on him is superb.

Its good to see battle damage on your troops and vehicles, nothing worse than when tanks and armour look like they have never been used.
Currently doing a diorama between Khorne Bezerkers and Space Wolves with 15 models in total, and would like to add battle damage to them, any simple but effective pointers?

The method i use is to take a sponge and cut off a small bit off. I then dip this in runefang steel...i then make sure to have only a little bit, i use a napkin to remove excess......Then dab it on, most the time it is trial and error. If you like i can post a picture of the sponge i use, its the sponge usually used for heavy grime, really hope this helps! cheers!

I love the Cataphractii Terminators. They have a lot more character than normal terminators.
If you do happen to get more forgeworld models, like different marks of space marines, you may want to spread them around. It would add more visual niceness, and be to the fluff, as different marks were spread around.

If you're going for a wasteland sort of look, maybe you should make the base just a bit darker, so it looks blasted and burnt.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! also im really glad you like him!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hello everyone, i wanted to ask how clearly you can all see the paint chipping as i think i may have not captured it properly....

Well, I just noticed, as I wasn't studying it too hard - dang, that is some beautiful wear and tear. It looks battered, yet good for ceremonial occasions. Barely.

I think you can see the paint chipping just fine. Particularly in the photo taken from the rear where there's less other details to take your eye. I wouldn't try to make it much more pronounced, I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to over do it. The way you have it now is, I would say, just about perfect. You still just doing it with the sponge and that one tone of silver?

Great, I'm glad it is visible and yes it is easy to over due but i feel i might try bringing the silver out a bit more. Also i still do it the same way but for this model i actually used Iron Breaker instead of Runefang Steel...
Im thinking adding a bit of Runefang Steel, what do you think?

Well i would like to apologize for my long absence, the holidays proved to be draining and once the holidays were over i had a leak in my 125 gallon aquarium. Well i repaired my aquarium and spend some ttime getting it back to its former glory. But now i have free time to spend on painting every now and again. Cheers, hope to be back with a great update soon. Until then my friends....
Thank you so much, im really glad you like my models, finally everything in life has calmed down so i should be back in action shortly

Thank you brother as said ive had to repair my large aquarium which ended up costing a lot more then i intended. So my re-supply of forge world will be down the road but i will certainly work on what i have in front of me for the time being cheers!

All the pre-heresy stuff FW keeps releasing has me excited. I love how you use the red and grey to break up all that yellow on the termies. Imperial Fists were always my least favourite 1st founding colour scheme because of all that yellow and those guys there can show how the yellow can be toned down for a nicer, more even scheme. And you've got some nice skill in painting too. Too bad there not all pre-heresy, but eh, whatever.

Love the look of these guys so far. The terminator with the (i'm guessing) heavy bolter is slightly brighter then the others. I'm personally more fond of his colouring then the slightly oranger ones the other terminators have, though both look good.
I do have to echo an earlier response in that the green seems a little off for yellow armour. It's good, but i feel like a different colour like a purple or even a blue might look a bit nicer.
Overall, great work and i'm looking forward to more.

Thanks! im glad you like them. Also the lighter one will be the color scheme i had purchased the wrong wash which was used on both the Sergent and heavy flamer. I will be trying another idea but it will be yellow not orange like the others. As for the Plasma Blaster i do agree another color would have been better but in my defense i only had a few colors to choose from and since lascannons are blue i went with green but certainly likely to change when and if i get a hold of some other color. Thanks so much, the criticism really helps so much!

What exactly are you looking for? For over all darkness, I use Burnt Umber Vallejo Pigment. But in the lighter yellow models i used Casandora Yellow wash over Golden Yellow and brought out the yellow back on the surface leaving the crevasses with the wash. Any other questions feel free to ask.

HAHA! absolutely, well how should i start... lol ok...
For the yellow you will need;
1:White Primer
2:Yriel Yellow
3:Casandora Yellow Wash
4:Lamenters Yellow Glaze
OPTION 1:
Step 1: Prime the model white, i use Krylon flat primer.
step 2: Base coat the entire model Yriel Yellow.
Step 3: Add a layer of Casandora Yellow wash. Now you could leave it at this step, if you chose to remember light the coat the lighter the yellow the more wash you add the more of and orangy yellow you will get.
Step 4: i go back on all surface areas with Yriel Yellow.
step 5: coat all of the yellow(crevasses and all) with a good layer of Lamenters Yellow.
OPTION 2
Step 1: Prime the model white.
Step 2: completely cover the model with Casandora Yellow.
Step 3: Once layer has dried, add another layer of Casandora Yellow.
Step 4: Add Yriel Yellow surface area of the armor.
Step 5: Add a layer of Lamenters Yellow Glaze.
hope you find a use for this my friend

Thanks mate! Glad you like them! Which part of the weathering are you interested in? The weathering pigment used is Vallejo Burnt Umber pigment. HOPE THIS HELPS MATE!
