Hey all, I've decided to re-start my blogging attempts. I guess I'm not sure how to start, but I think I'll just follow example and start by giving you some random stuff about me, along with the army background, goals, and other things.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
About me I'm 14 and started gaming when I was 12 and a half. I started out playing vanilla marines from a couple of black reach sets with my friends. after a year or so of Vanilla, I realized how much I disliked them, mainly because everyone I knew had at least a few squads of them. Because I feel like I'm a creative person, and I enjoy being the kid that walks into the FLGS, and has other people say "woah! what are those?" I decided to pick the most obscure army at that time, Chaos renegades. I picked them up because they were different, and they looked like with a combination of good ol' American ingenuity, and some FW parts, I could do something amazing. I started off and bought some generic guardsmen, but when I started to try and get into the real "Renegade" side of things, and buy some Forgeworld upgrades, I realized they were way out of my price range, so they were pushed back into my cabinet of eternal doom for a year or so, while I sporadically messed around with my Knights of Solstice Vanilla marines. Now, I have ammased enough funds for sporadic FW purchases, and have decided that it is time to start my FW dream army.
Mandatory Background the fire crackled and popped as Rangok's squad of defiled fed it with the rubble of the ruined Imperial sanctorum, the siege had lasted for months, but the city was holding thanks to the talents of these apostles, and some help from Papa Nurgle. Their cult of worshippers and lowlife had been discovered when an Imperial commissar had been assigned to the regiment to oversee the planet, and since then, countless regiments had been raised, and multiple space marine chapters had been deployed to deal with the chaos brewing in the segmentum Obscurus, but Rangok knew they would win, they always did ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ok So basically the guys I have created are a cult of nurgle followers, that are all a part of a chaotic army. They are a cityfight and seige based army, who have held out for 100 years so far.

Biohazard wrote:The renegades are looking good but is the Sentinel cab on backwards?
Ehr... umm Well Its a long story. Basically, yeah its on backward but I decided that It could fluff-wise be a small variant of a stalk tank, and also a creation nurgle made so that the tank was more humanistic... I don't know if i Like it, but it sure is different
dsteingass wrote:Woot Niice Stuff Capn! The welding mask will always be my favorite!
Thanks much, I actually despise the welding mask because he is leaning over at such a far angle that he is currently blue tacked to his base until I get some time to pin him
so...here is me... looking puzzled as gak...why did it took you so long to actually start a quality thread on your own??? seems you are more´n capable of that! more of that! the painting looks sweet! the writing lets us ask for more...
the only think that made me even more puzzled was the backwards looking sentinel too...but since you explained that i will gladly follow if you promise to pour out more of that nice stuff... by the way... i don´t happen to follow that many choasy stuff around here...so feel privilieged about it

Keep up the great work and you know im subscribed
Thanks swampy, You can get the dual autopistols from FW and other bitz sites for your IG

Well done, Cappy, well done....
Thanks max, The sentinel was probably the easiest thing to make of everything, as its just straight out of the box!
Also @ Norn King: Age doesn't make anything better or worse, just practice

Thanks Vik. I guess I diddn't start because until this April I had literally nothing cool to show that I actually wanted to show. I feel Very privileged that anyone is following me Finally, the writing will come, I just need some time to do it
@Jake and everyone: Would you like a tute on the painting? because I could do one, but when I do, you will think 100% less of the paintjob because of its simplicity.
Custom stuff? I would love to, but Ideas are hard to come by, especially when I don't feel adept at working with plasticard
Finally, to wrap up my update of the day, I have started gluing the enforcer(Stormtrooper) squad, and will have pics soon
Capitansolstice wrote:Age doesn't make anything better or worse, just practice

But hey, custom stuff doesn't mean it has to be a super-detailed plasticard scratch-build with working electronics (although that's always a bonus ), rotating and lifting the body is customising, as is head and weapon swapping
Just keep building your guys and playing with bits, thinking of any fluff, ideas will present themselves.
But hey, custom stuff doesn't mean it has to be a super-detailed plasticard scratch-build with working electronics (although that's always a bonus ), rotating and lifting the body is customising, as is head and weapon swapping
*Cough*Max*Cough*
I guess that's true. We'll see what I've got. but first off I found something like this from my quad and I have some ideas
ok that pic aside... you say simple paintscheme...where is the benefit to have something complicated and frustrating compared to something effective and simple? well... color me dumb but i would always go for the latter
ok that pic aside... you say simple paintscheme...where is the benefit to have something complicated and frustrating compared to something effective and simple? well... color me dumb but i would always go for the latter
Because this one is "too" simple IMHO
And the pic is a poor imitation of me being like Bayuan
i wouldn´t go for his startegy... i like his stuff but his way of building up suspense... it is not my style... i like to be more "in your face" and keep all of my followers in touch with my thoughts and deeds...well those that i deem worthy of putting in the wide world of "wisdoms"

Well then Vik, Here you go:
Here's the valk that I have defiled with spray paint and sand to make it look nurglesque. The pics are bad, but hopefully you can see the rough surface of the valk, and the customized and converted demonic possession in the cockpit
yeah i like that^^ also i have read that other nurgle mdlers use acetone for "weathering" their models...texturized paints might help here too...GW has these now too...
i can see why you want to use that lightbulb bit... i think that would look cool...tho i too have no idea where...maybe on a hellhound version that is not a flamethorwer but more like a desease catapult?

Exactly what I was thinking, or as a part of a command chimera? I'm just not sure
I advise you don't use a hot glue gun... as the name suggest the glue is heat reactive... and if its a hot day, they will fall off... trust me... I learnt that the hard way when I was in uni.
but if you want the undecayed look I suggest weathering paints, for that sexual rust look

Oh don't worry about the rust I've got that all figured out(I think) Also when I mean using the hot glue gun, I mean just using the hot part to make circular depressions in the plastic, and using a hot pair of tweezers to push and pull to make boils
Yup, been there done that... and I've burnt myself in far worse ways, sliced my thumb open to the bone, nearly cut my thumb off and several other pretty nasty incidents lols.
Finally got over here to check out your work. Really like the figures and builds you've got. I'm not very familiar with guard... are these figures "stock" or have you modified them?
I love the way the masks match the overall look of the figures. The way you paint them is well chosen and it all works quite well together. I have a couple of suggestions that I think will improve the impact without changing the look if you're interested. They look good as is... but working on three small things would not only improve your personal painting skills but really step up the impact of the figures.
Nice mix of parts, you've got some very characterful minis. Your painting is very good considering you haven't been 'at it' that long. Hell of a lot better than I was at your age. Try experimenting with some washes and dry brushing, adds a lot of depth to the finished look and get a pin vice for drilling out the barrels on bolt pistols etc. Looking forward to seeing more

Go for it gits!
And @ Ash1: Thanks, I've got to get me some of those vices
Red on dark green/grey messes with the eyes as the contrast is minimal (even though the colors are different). Consider some very subtle highlighting of the red or shading of the green (just outside the red) in order to get some definition between the color of the armor and the red streaks on it.

hmmm...that bit could be a means for watching? like a cam-gizmo?
also you could do some ugly looking stuff by PVA? just do what otherwise everyone would avoid...let the pva gather in noses...(dunno if that methaphor is used in englsih that way...) streaks of PVA that forms into goey lil bumps... and you could also while the PVA is cruring create somescratched surfaces with it...
OR...even better...the hot slat technique... originally ment to be used for bending pieces...if the bit rests too long in the hot slat...then you create a wonderful blistered texture...

I actually had a notecard with all of the ones from Siege of vraks somewhere, I cant find it now but when I do I'll upload it to show you what is going to be all over the tanks and walkers

Take a look at this perhaps for the setting of our story. Old Battlerep I did. The planet is the perfect place for renegades to be gathering, especially those who like Nurgle. The Imperium could be launching a crusade to retake the system etc.. I can write something up if you like it.

I love these minis, but I think that a vet squad or two would help balance out the army. Having played my own proxy guard before, I know that penal legion aren't exactly very reliable and that maybe some vets would be more effective, although maybe not fluffy. These paint jobs are very neat, but I would like to see those lenses shinier. Look up some glass highlighting techniques, and you'll go far!

Thanks much Killy This army is very fluffy and a few squads of vets will definately make their presence known, just not right now.
IDZ, can you finish this fluff so we can both have written some of the stuff

Nice tank, but did a ghost jump in the image? There's squiggles o.O
Alright here we go... I have a Lightbulb from a car headlight, which would be cut up so that the socket is like an intake/chemical belcher(see above post) and I would trash the Hellhound turret, and cover up the space where it normally went with a piece of something(You wouldnt really see that though, as there will be struts etc on top of it.)

Sounds interesting man, just don't drop it ever. xD Check out my Repressor WIP and let me know what ya think.
I love it. It looks to me to more visually represent the traitorous aspect of the unit with its "I am backwards from everything you know" attitude......
That's my avatar... supposed to be a self-portrait of me as a cybered out runt herd permanently wired to painting equipment. Some of the more weak-willed dakkanaughts thought they'd have some fun by fooling with the image. It'll pass in time as all such things do. It's a fad.

Sorry about the lack of a big weekend update guys I've had an eventful weekend. I put over 500 rounds through my brand new shotgun, and installed a sling, which broke the stock, so... yeah...
sorry

Actually, the 20ga. doesn't have much kick, and the 500 round is an "initiation" as my dad puts it. I do have a small bruise, and I think the stock got fraged up because of the sling we put in
I think thats because I deleted them off picasa, I'm having a lot going on right now, but next weekend I should have better pictures and newly completed minis

I got goodies!!! I've just received my long awaited non- heretical diversion... a FW chaplain dreadnought. I really needed to get back in the saddle but I think im a bit dead on the chaos front, so im going to be making this chappy super cool, converted and dynamic. My goal with him is to wet blend, use NMM and OSL techniques to be able to win ( hopefully) A store painting competion
Currently the gallery is mad and its not letting me link... but if you are feeling nice... you can see the dread in my gallery
you lucky sob! i've been waiting on my FW to arive for at least a month maybie 2! cant waite to see what you do with your NMM.. might i suggest the tutorial in the eavy metal book? it was one of the first step by steps i followed and it is really gun to do so
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's the lockup for his pose. It needs work... and criticism too. Also if anyone has suggestions withheld the siege drill they would be appreciated
Automatically Appended Next Post: I really feel like this dread hates me... I just can't find a natural pose
as i only ever worked with already built dreads i cant really say how one should pose them when building to get the maximum of dynamic looking ...look^^
probably depends on the kind of base you want to use...
Personally, I don't think FW models need anything dramatic, because afterall they are usually one offs. and being such stand out on their own accord. the normal GW stuff is what I would usually suggest for dramatic bases and such. hence why my nids are heavily converted and based.
and a wrecked rhino would be easy made by either getting somebitz from a bitz side or by scratchbuilding...tho that would take up quite some valuable time... maybe a bit too much for just a base decoration...
this might sound bad of me, but its because I've had years of experience in this hobby. but, when it comes to basing FW stuff I do generally keep it simple, as the model can speak for itself.
The best advice I was given when starting out on converting and such was to never push yourself until you were out of your comfort zone. push yourself enough to improve, but never push yourself to the point of being uncomfortable. Hope that advice is useful to you.
good looking pose... reminds me a bit of iron man tho... or even a bit of the hulk... ready to charge into battle! by the way... that fist looks way better than the drill in my opinion!
Here we go again! It's been really busy this week, and summer in general. I've just graduated 8th grade, and started coaching a neighboorhood swim team! Aside from all that I've had almost no time to paint! but here's what Ive done to the whole army: HIGHLIGHTS!!! I just did some quick, sloppy highlighting on the shoulders and stuff
Congrats on graduation from 8th grade and enjoy High school. It'll be the time of your life or a living hell some days and let me tell you, once you grad and go to college, the experience only intensifies like some bad slaneesh porno flick that they watch in the eye of terror on thursday nights. Yes that kind of horror
Im liking what im seeing with the renegades. They are looking very nice heretical
Be sure to stop by my neck of the woods and say hello sometime

Well, I do find the FW stuff to be worth it, but only for a few squads, after a while you get repetitive posing, I use it because Its different. I also fixed the pictures! See the first post
