Thanks Gits, yeah, I kinda ran out of termie bases so just glued him to a normal base, he looks really short next to his battle brothers! which reminds me to buy some more!
I´ll be sending you a better thing to use as a crozius.
Thanks Tomas! that would be really nice! which goes against everything you stand for doesn't it .......
Did nothing on my models today had to go and buy all the appliances for our new kitchen! so there goes all my money for the moment, now it's just the builder to pay and the inconvenience of having the old one torn out and replaced until i can get back into it properly!
until soon!

Cheers dude! glad you approve! it's funny how now i'm looking at it all differently, my original goal was to do an army in the quickest way possible, and while I think i've done that with them i've noticed that there's a lot of parts i've rushed through and obviously could have done better, flat parts on some reds and details like armor joins and shading, the larger pics do bring them glaring to the surface and while i'm still not unhappy with them I find that the parts I believe i've done well such as the faces and lenses which I did spend time on look really impressive and i wish 'now' that instead of speeding through the entire army in 9 weeks I should have taken my time and really painted them with perfection in mind rather than speed sadly it's this train of thought that's impeding my progress with the last parts of my army, should i shelve the speeders and dreadnought until i'm inspired to work on another force? or do I just finish them up as with the rest of the army and be happy with them as a neat gaming force? I find myself also bending now towards spending time on individual models such as the salamander I painted for Pyriel, he was really enjoyable to paint and the end result was some of the best i've done imo and now i'd love to learn from the masters and see how good I can get! would my blog followers welcome the change? what would you like to see me do?
a) continue the Exemplars at the current painting level?
b) leave the current force and start to progress my skills updating in my blog with individual models to gift to dakka-ites?
c) use the remaining models i've started to begin another force?
d) give up and just be a troll for a while?
or anything else you can suggest! I know I shouldn't beat myself up about it too much but I know I can paint well and seeing some of what i've posted just kinda bums me out when I see it and I want to give a good impression of who I am and what I can do! my biggest hurdle is/was losing interest in them when they took too long but now I've got an army to play with (finally), sorry this post has been a bit negative and mopey but I reckon now with a great base of friends who have been following this blog and helping me through it all with suggestions and help, I think maybe I can slow down now and give back to you all to say thanks and work on some miniatures to impress you guys and hopefully myself! so please don't leave me just yet and lets get me back inspired to do some more!
can't wait to hear what you'd all like to see, i'll check back later tonight!
your pal Nerdfest09................. Damian

Hey Damian, how is life treating you at the moment?
In my opinion, go with option A. So far, your models have been awesome, the whole look of the force is really great, the colours you have chosen are very original and I think you should stick to this army for sure. I have always found the hardest part about finishing a force is not finding the time, but simply motivation. Your process of painting these guys hasn't lessened their look at all and you have managed to stay on track the whole way through. I think you should finish the army, get a photo of the entire force all painted up, post it on here and feel proud as hell as we all post on here our praise. Then, as time goes on and as you move onto other projects, come back and repaint anything you feel really needs to be redone. You could use it as relief painting, when you get bored painting something in the future take a break and touch up the armour joints, something along those lines. As a whole I really love the army, you should be super proud already! Great Work Nerdfest, keep it up dude, there are heaps of guys on here just like me who get super inspired by your constant progress! Hope you had a great weekend, James

Yeah dude, keep it going! A all the way! Maybe instead of feeling dissatisfied about your painting of the exemplars, perhaps just add a few subtle highlights, washes, blends or glazes somewhere? But believe me, your stuff now is great! I don't want you to stop.

Hi James! thanks mate, what you say does make sense, and it's really nice to know that people use my models as inspiration! I never looked at it that way before strangely enough! as i always just saw others work and tried to imitate it while hoping to interest others with my witty banter but i digress, the finding time bit is hard as i've only got one day a week to paint if it's free! so i don't like spending what would end up being 4-5 weeks on a single model or small squad, but i will finish what i started and post up a pic of everyone ready to fight! and in the meantime i'll start the individual model painting i thought about I'm keen to paint up an Imperial fist for Bullyboy76 as I said before i have never painted yellow armor before either, i'd also be glad to paint up a marine in a chapter of your choosing to say thanks for being open and constructive while being positive and following my work at the same time! it's not gone unnoticed!
thanks again

I have never really been able to stay on top of painting my armies, and, to be honest, am quite jealous of your work. Not only have you been getting models done, but they're done pretty quick (a challenge for me) and I think that they look great (also seems to be hard ). I think that you should do whatever you damn well please, so long as you post your progress To me, the whole point of this hobby (and it may be "the point" for everything too, but that's a different post) is to have fun and enjoy doing it, so if you aren't having fun, make it fun

Well with only one day a week to paint you are doing even better than I first thought, that is a truly epic effort, really cool man. Motivation and not getting bored are the 2 hardest things to over come in my opinion, and you have owned them both and not reduced the look of your models at all. Ha ha ha, that's cool man, I'm currently working on space wolves, I really enjoy painting them but still cant decide on a final colour scheme, I have about a dozen different wolves all painted up differently. I think I've chosen one I'm happy with, just trying to find a nice fast way to paint them. I would love a wolf all painted up by you, it would be an honour. I would paint one in return for you but my skills are still in the grass hopper stage, but I'm getting there!

Well, James and Prime you have both buoyed my spirits considerably! and James I'd be bloody stoked to paint you up a wolf! in fact i'm gonna go look through my bits and start organising him! I think I may have felt better about the army if i hadn't spent so much time on the bits i really like? I know it sounds kinda backward but it's those parts that make the rest appear inadequate in my eyes! so my decision helped by you guys is this, I shall slowly finish the Exemplars with what i've accumulated and also just have a short break from them by painting up a space wolf for Jiirc and an Imperial fist for Bullyboy76! this way I get to test myself and do something nice as well! then i can go back to them and keep them as a gaming force I can be proud of, actually I took them to my local club the other night and had my first game, a draw against Tau and someone saw them there and wants me to paint up 40 steel legion guard with tarnished armor and red great coats! he hasn't called me yet but we'll see what happens there
thanks again guys, i'll get cracking on something special

Matey...I vote a bit of A and a bit of B.
Continue with your force because they are rather nice and the end result will be well worth it.
But the bit of B - I know variety is appreciated, so treat yourself by doing the odd individual thing and one off for folks. That way it gets you past your mass of red and black!
Why do you think I bounce between so much stuff?!

Hey DSS, good to see you again! yep, I think i'm now heading in the right direction, you're of course right, to stop the stagnation i need to cycle the water! and now that's exactly what i'm doing! i've got 2 mini's to paint for people and the fact they're not for me makes me want to paint something really good! I can definitely understand the bouncing thing but damn you took it to the extreme

Start a side project? Maybe a 500pt force of something completely Alien. It might make your hobby space more chaotic but my inquisitive nature makes me curious to see what you could do beyond space marines. Or perhaps indulge a fantasy? There are a horde of options, the possibilities are infinite ! Hopefully my somewhat cryptic post has given you some things to think about.

LOL, I started laughing as soon as I read that post from Perkustin! all I could imagine was a very serious looking dude doing the hand wave Jedi mind trick as he spoke to me! then nodding sagely as he turned with a whirl of battered robes and strode into the shadows! much to think about, thought about infinity but the game system is very involved and i'm kind of *HEY....WAIT* what about Necromunda! maybe that could work? Oooooh now thinking thinking, Hmmmmm don't like metal..... conversions?......counts as?....goliath? Quickly someone give me a virtual slap on the back of my head!
nerdfest09 Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I played my 5th game today in 16 years! lost quite badly to blood angels! those damn death company are horrendous! and again librarian Tomas decided to just be a bloody hero and took on 5 sanguinary guard single handed and slayed one but was then whooped into the warp! but 3 lone tac marines one with a hb decided to just show him how to do it and whooped right on back! :-) Automatically Appended Next Post: Righto everyone, i just bought some bits from that fantastic ebay! scored myself a 5 man mk4 maximus armor for $32 bucks shipped! not bad i think, and also an Ork head i'm using to slightly convert one as an experiment only cost me a couple of bucks! now he needs a body :-).
So, now i've got my models on the way for my paint up and give away, i've sort of got a small list of some chapters i want to paint up, using my patience and really trying to do them well, so far i'm working on an Imperial fist marine for Bullyboy76, and a 13th company style terminator wolf lord for jiirc, so that leaves me with 4 suits of maximus armor left, i'm thinking I may do a nice blood angel to work on my reds with help from Pyriel and SCC here on dakka and give it to my best mate Nerdfest11 :-)
So 3 left! who do i do? any chapters that would suit the armor and you'd like to see me do? preferably in a colour i haven't painted before of much of so i can learn!
Cheers everyone, the excitement is building now i'm getting the bug back big time! I've already started on the wolf lord and have heaps of ideas buzzing around my head! I have a feeling this is gonna be bigger and better than the Exemplars! never fear though they'll get finished but they're just having a rest! :-)
catch you all soon!

Hi guys, I started working on my next project for someone! this is the wulfen style wolf lord for jirc I'm looking for ghoul arms or horrors arms to use but i thought i'd try and sculpt a hand myself in case i can't get what i'm after! scary thing sculpting! never done it and don't really know where to start, I've dummied up a hand and need to trim it up a bit and then start on it! i think the head will look awesome when all painted up
Cool, so there's where i'm at at the moment, i'd love any hints or tricks i can use for that hand? or even some if you've got 'em lying around?

Heya Mate.
Look at my Gallery. Look at the Imperial Paladins.
Do something in that sort of dark blue - same sort of blue scheme that could be applied to Night Lords and Crimson Fists - the bright blue is far too overdone with Ultras everywhere but there's very few decent dark blues out there. Would be curious to see what you make on that sort of blue.

So 3 left! who do i do? any chapters that would suit the armor and you'd like to see me do? preferably in a colour i haven't painted before of much of so i can learn!
Split schemes mate, kill two birds with one stone
I have a (very small) Brazen Claw army - quartered red & blue, lovely scheme that and there have been a few really nice Storm Lords armies (half and half white/red with yellow helmets) popping up recently that are pretty inspiring and would certainly offer plenty of learning opportunities. Sons of Guilliman (blue/white quartered) and Howling Griffons (red/yellow quartered) are lovely schemes too. They're all quite old Chapters so Mk.IV would fit in there nicely.
Space Sharks/Carcharadons would also suit and the grey/white scheme looks really good when done well and if you go for a light grey tone there's plenty to learn about blending, shading and subtle highlights there. Then there's orange (Knights of Gryphonne) and Purple (Soul Drinkers pre-renegade, Hawk Lords) and metallic (Silver Skulls) all really different from your current army. The choices are endless really...

Hiya SCC, how are you goin' dude?, how do you go about starting a quartered scheme it has to be a neat line through them but I'm not sure how to get it nice and even? I like the storm lords, as I haven't painted white armor yet either just skulls and the like, but armor is a challenge and so would be the yellow helmet so they're looking like a good choice! I love the brazen claws and honestly did consider them a while ago when I was looking for my next marine chapter but decided on the Exemplars! so it looks like i've now got 1 suit left to do! this is where i'm at with them at the moment:
1: Imperial fist for Bullyboy76
2: storm lord for SCC
3: Crimson Fist for Darkstarsabre
4: Blood angel for nerdfest11
5: ?
6: wulfen terminator for jirc
nice little list to get me started with, and as soon as i get my marines i'll start planning the techniques! you don't mind if I pm you some questions do you? i'm trying to take everything on board that yourself and Pyriel have suggested to me i may need you to be my Yoda! don't know who Pyriel can be yet?....who's a egotistic grumpy mentor? can't fault him though!
I hope I can impress you with how I use your advice chris, I'm really looking to have some fun and learn heaps through this!

Split schemes are no different from any others, here's my standard screed of advice (many folks asked about my Brazen Claws):
It's pretty simple really, the key is patience and neatness. Obviously the 1st thing to do is pick where you're going to split the colours, obviously I pick down the middle vertically and the waist as the horizontal split. I have seen some nice stuff where the belt was the same colour as the legs, so maybe have think about that too.
As for the actual painting, well I paint as per usual, working on one colour at a time for highlights and shades and making sure it's nice and dry before I got to the other colour (basically so I don't smudge any wet paint). I paint a nice thin line of 50/50 black ink/Chaos Black down the vertical line after the first highlights are done just to help seperate and define the colours.
From there, paint as usual, but add a few extra highlights along the vertical line, again just to help define and seperate the 2 colours, you don't have to be as extreme as my guys (especially on the helmets) a more subtle approach looks awesome too, it just isn't my style ^_^
That's it really, be neat, especially where the 2 colours meet, a thin black line and a little bit of extra highlighting are all it takes.
Oh and remember to check you've got the paint on the backpack right, I got the colours switched around once and had to come up with a reason to paint an entire guy with reversed colours (the Brazen Claw sergeant, turned out OK) I blu- tac the backpack onto the mini and daub a touch of each colour on the correct side now, just to make sure I don't stuff up again.

For Pyriel you could try the...Mentors ( boom-tish)
And you're more than welcome to dash off a PM or three Damian, more than happy to help if I can
