Hello!
You may know me off CDO forums or Warhammer Empire, as Theforgefather, and Progreen10 for all of you Minecraft players.
This is my sloooooowly growing 40k Blog of Renegades and Heretics.
I use the Siege of Vraks part I as my codex, and have a small infantry army to go with my chaos space marines, made up of Death Guard, World Eaters, and Alpha legion. I am also planning on making a small force of Luna Wolves
Most of this was converted when I first used greestuff, and I went a bit mad with it,
so lots of stuff needs re-sculpting.
I am also starting a combined blog with CSMs and will be updating both. My plan for the CSMs is on P.3
P1 and P3 have the most stuff on, my best stuff on 3
This is the colour scheme I have come up with (not my picture, but my colours and editing)
Revised GS skills:
Here are a few of my better minis; I will slowly show them as I near finish them, or when I get new stuff
Alpha legion WIP pics!
Champion:
OSL attempt
Alpha Legion lord, converted from the Wolf Lord I did:
Repainted Khorne Rhino:
Disciples of Xaphan: (from vostroyan firstborn)
DoX Champion:
please comment and criticise
thanks

I really like the colour scheme you are going for and the dirt and blood really lends itself to showing that they are traitors, are they nurgle alligned or undivided?
55357
Post by: progreen10
They are meant to be followers of Nurgle, but if you read the background info on the Renegade guard, many of them are unwilling converted to chaos when their commanding officers go evil. Most of the guard don't even know about the chaos gods.
Think of it as Anikan Skywalker and his clonetroopers.

Post by: Bores
Oh so your playing them As Vraksian renegades, not just using the rules and count as, it makes sense now Any plans for the Ogryns or command squads/ vehicles etc.?
55357
Post by: progreen10
I have ordered a Chimera off eBay, which was meant to be posted today, and I'm 13 at the end of May (the 28th to be precise), and the FW renegade ogryns are amazing, (and overpriced ), so cash will be coming my way soon to get loads of new stuff.
57116
Post by: Bores
Haha having money is always a bonus in this hobby
Out of interest are you using a basecoat or washes on your models?
55357
Post by: progreen10
Scorched brown, Calthan brown, then drybrush Gretchin green. Whatever that is in new paints... I then weather them with mud and blood, then watered down mix of calthan, black, and a bit of scorched brown. I might then redo some green, leaving dirty colours in the gaps. I also do a rusty mix of yellow, brown and red for the armour weathering
57116
Post by: Bores
I haven't bought any new paints so i wouldn't know
How many points are you currently going for?
I see a chaos warrior helm on one of your models and from looking at your other blogs your green stuff skills are getting better. So, are you going to be doing much kit-bashing/ conversions with this army?
55357
Post by: progreen10
Boy am I going to kit bash it. As nice as FW models are, I can't always afford them. I was thinking of getting a FW renegade ogryn, then a pack of WFogres, and doing a squad of them. I would probably use the torso on one, the head on another, legs arms ETC, and gs the rest.
57116
Post by: Bores
Sounds like a sound plan. Are you working on anything at the minute as i'm looking forward to seeing more painted stuff
55357
Post by: progreen10
Well, I have a pile of grey, green, and bad paint jobs sitting to my right on a shelf. Every time I turn to the right, it reminds me that I need to paint them...
I am still waiting for the chimera though...

Impressive What are the guys in the bottom left of the first picture? Really like the chimera, looks very fitting, although i'd maybe give the red anoter coat to reallymake it 'pop', do you own any chaos vehicle upgrades as some spiky bits may be in order. That's only my opinion though
55357
Post by: progreen10
erm erm...
bottom left...
try again!
Psykers (with blue paperclip lightning!)
My WIP Disciples of Xaphan (with hats)
command squad
Chaos dwarfs and the cripple of an emperor
hope this helps Automatically Appended Next Post: And also, I prefer the "stolen and recoloured vehicle scheme, rather than "possessed with a daemon", seeing as they are only naughty guardsmen, not CSMs. When I get CSMs though, I will do possessed vehicles. I used to have a vindicator, but an ok conversion to having a thunderfire cannon on it, then a crap pre heresy death guard conversion took it's toll on it, so it is no longer with us...:(
57116
Post by: Bores
By bottom left i meant right, sometimes i forget to think
That aside the paperclip lightining is a cool idea and i like your take on the emperor (did you make that yourself?)
Is that a terminator i spie in the picture with the psykers?
55357
Post by: progreen10
Erm...
This is a long story.
A loon time ago my local GW was holding a Horus Heresy campaign, so I put together Mortarian, Death Guard primarch.
Only then did they realise that it was on the 16+ thursday gaming night...
It was only quickly made from random bits box bits, so that is why it looks, erm, odd
57116
Post by: Bores
Ah that must have sucked, still looks great anyway, although a picture of him may be in order (hint, hint)
55357
Post by: progreen10
Ok then, *wink, wink*
And my psykers!
I also redid the chimera bits
Oh, and another note, this thread seems to just be a conversation between only me and Bores...
Just saying
57116
Post by: Bores
If it's any concelation, my thread is exactly the same
I like what you've done with the chimera, the rust effect in particular is really good.
One thing i will say is that the psyker (sp?) needs a bit of a touch up as some of the wood and skin is the same colour as the fatigues. Hope that helps
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
Could do with some OSL or a gradient of colour getting lighter on your psykers lightening effects, it'd really make them pop and give a good feel of the "power" coming out of them.
Other than that the models look great, very creative, a clear theme and well carried out throughout. Plus I'm always fond of renegade guard blogs popping up.
As a final note dont get disheartened if you dont get many comments, everyones blog is the same (in that people dont comment, not in content)
Editted for clarity
55357
Post by: progreen10
Lol, there are a lot of renegade logs about...
BTW, I am still working on the psykers
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
No harm in alot of Renegade blogs, personally I find the fact that the mainstay of the chaos forces (cultists, mercs, rogues, renegades, pirates etc) are beyond a more noticable army is a great thing. I've personally played against a good few chaos marine or daemon forces but always felt it was lacking something in that "loyalist" guard were better represented than the traitorous kind.
The Psykers are a great start though, look forward to seeing them finished.

Chaos is at it's strongest!
Chaos will rise against the imperium and slaughter them!!

Post by: Melcavuk
All we need now is another Eye of Terror or similar game to coincide with the launch of 6th ed and you'll get a chance to test your Renegades in a decent event
Do you intend to add in any Chaos Marines to your force? Not sure which of the Vraks lists number 1 is though I think Alpha Legion?
57116
Post by: Bores
I think i remeber reading somewhere that you can take them as elites...
If not you could always make a small marine force for apoalypse games?
55357
Post by: progreen10
Yeah, in SoV part 1 (Siege of Vraks), the CSMs are Alpha Legion Squad. 5-10. I actually plan on getting a death guard army, in the same colours, to use as allies, and I will include CSMs in my Renegades list.
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
I believe in one of the other siege of vraks lists there is a nurgle one, though I may well be wrong, I havent picked up anything Vrakswise other than the part 1 pdf
57116
Post by: Bores
Personally i think you should make slaanesh marines, although i'm biased In all seriousness though, the colour scheme on your mortarian contrasted really well the grittyness of your guardsmen so the Deathguard might work really well.
55357
Post by: progreen10
I think the last one has a bit more Khorne in there. Well, there are the hounds of Xaphan, with Khorne ogryn.
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
Imperial Armour: Vraks 3 has a "servants of decay" list which seems nurgle oriented, might be worth a look
2 is Servants of Slaughter, i.e. Khorne
55357
Post by: progreen10
Bores:
The basic idea, is that the commander of the IG division that my dudes were in, was slowly becoming more corrupted by war, and eventually turned to Nurgle. Anyone that refused to join him would be executed, or handed over to the forces of chaos for biological testing. So lots of them are followers of Nurgle, whether they realise or want to be. So Nurgle is my main theme. For my CSMs to be, I may include some other god squads or whatever you want to call them Automatically Appended Next Post: Melcavuk wrote:Imperial Armour: Vraks 3 has a "servants of decay" list which seems nurgle oriented, might be worth a look

Not yet, at the moment I'm holding off on vraks because it looks like none of them allow chaos rough riders

I have brightened it on photobucket editing options. Oh, and his arms aren't coming out his head. He has a hunched back
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
Looks cool, nearly tribal in appearance, not sure if you've done tattoos painted on before but if you could pull off war paint/tattoes over his arms it'd really kick up a very tribal chieftan look.
57116
Post by: Bores
I second what melcavuk said about tribal tattoos; it'd make him look alot cooler aswell as break up the flesh.
55357
Post by: progreen10
Yeah, the flesh looks like that because there is no daylight, which is what I normally rely on for a decent photo. The editing removed all 3d ness from it... Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and also, how do some of you seem to have traitor guard rankings? Just wondering
57116
Post by: Bores
Being a slaanesh player; more bling = higher rank. For example, my PCS have better armour than my regular guard and my commander has the best and most ornate armour of the lot.
Although an undivided or nurgly force would probably use more mutations to show greater status.
55357
Post by: progreen10
I would never be able to work out a ranking system, other than the different units in the book ...

Post by: progreen10
I have given the reloading guy finished eyes and highlighted all of them a bit.
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
Not sure if its the pictures or not but you might need to thin your paints down a little, the colour is coming through true but it is also obscuring some minor details and adding texture to flat surfaces. A few thin layers work better than a single heavy layer and leave you with a tonne more detail.
That said they continue to look good.

(model-wise, I'll post a full army list up later) I'm only doing this because it's a bank holiday and I have nothing at all to do. I'd say needs more rhinos, or alternate transport for the bezerkers (landraiders?)
55357
Post by: progreen10
Hmm... That might cost a bit... 10 plague marines would go in the rhino, the other 18 on foot. Here's my purchasing plan: -1 CSM battleforce -1 CSM Berzerkers pack -1 Huron blackheart -and the 18 eBay plague marines The rest is not essential for the CSM stuff. I'm not sure what to do with the other 5 normal CSMs though... The other plague marines would be made from the standard CSMs

There is also directional lighting from the lights. MMM... Meaty... As always, please comment and criticise it!
