@Januine - Oh yes! this thing wont need re-arming for at least a week
@Mad - I wouldn't be as jack to play a FW lord of war without consent first, history tells us sometime FW don't know how to balance points vs destruction
I agree about the window. His carapace is looking great. At least there will be squiggles!!!!! Hah, I have to agree, the smoke launcher looks a little out of place. The iconography looks superb on the shoulder, is it free hand?
@Mad - Cheers, I saw it used on some cockpit glass for a stormraven and really liked the idea behind it, been using it on all my large bits of glass from then
@Wolvey - Sadly I'm not that good at free hand, its brass etch from FW it really is amazing
That is looking awesome . I know I said it before, but all that scroll work really does look good.
I Think it helps break up all those empty flat areas on the Armour.
@Cam - You've hit the nail on the head, its not that easy, I am taking my time I'm getting about two hours of painting a night, I think I should get it done by the end of the week.
@Zerg - Thanks man, you and me both, I did a dry fit again today, I'm giddy with excitement
@Azalle - Oooh? I'm always stoked when readers can learn from the way I paint, any chance you could let me know what you learned? perhaps I could do a better guide on it later on.
@Gits - Thanks man, its a tough one, check out below for my explanation.
@Mad - I also stick friends of the Imperium depending on who my opponent plays
@Waaazag - Thank you!
@EDC - It's huge, it estimate its about 3 marines tall in length, I've never had anything so big before
@Wolvey - Hopefully your not dissapointed
@Solar - Many thanks, I really like how the bronze came out.
Update: So, I spent about 3 hours last night, I painted the sword three times, and now I'm sick of painting it. The first time I wanted it to match my normal swords with a power stream running through the blade, well there is a problem with that as there are all these cut out and small areas to try and fit it through. It looked like Gak so I repainted it blue, washed and waited. The second time I figured why not try a gradient that goes through the blade, that should work right? Well I tried and it looked like Gak, the gradients got lost in between the holes and the centre of the blade. So I repainted it blue, washed and waited. Finally I went with a similar way as the power pack on his back. This is what it looks like. I'm not repainting this again
Edit: I am very open to suggestions and Ideas for the next sword I do (remember I have one more to paint) so please suggest away
I love him Knightley. He looks superb as I said earlier! The squiggles add that extra touch. You were right about the base too, really tied them both together.
Excellent job, looks the part, and squiggles again make it that next level we are coming to expect here. Great job on keeping it clean and crisp, to match your other gear, really difficult at this scale, especially with the squiggles. Cant wait for the twin set now.
Looking good. I think the sword looks great the little flash of white at the tip helps focus the attention. I didn't consider all the problems the holes would cause but you've done it justice.
@Januine - He forever will be known as the squatting titan wont he? I guess there are worse names to be known by
@Gits - Cheers, but check out the light box pictures!
@Wolvey - I like the name, I wonder what that is in Latin?
@Graven - Thanks bud!
@Cam - Might have to wait a bit of time, I have an assembled box that has been calling my name for a year now, really should answer the call.
@EDC - Thanks for the vote of confidence man, I agree having the holes is a right pain in the butt, It would have been better if it were like the DreadKnight sword
@LT - I managed to squeeze him in there, it wasn't easy, he's absolutely huge!
@Alaricuk - Thank you
Update: well I managed to squeeze him into a light box'esque environment, pics below!
Very nicely done model and fits the rest of your armies theme really well. I reckon what you ended up with on the sword is great too and does it justice.
Finally caught up after not looking at this blog for a while, and I have to say I absolutely love that Knight! He'll look awesome fighting alongside your Grey Knights! As for the Kroot, like any basic troops, you have the right idea doing them in batches, makes them a bit less of a chore. Personally I imagine Kroot are not fun to paint (mine are going to wait a while, but I'll refer back to this blog for ideas), but they do look awesome when they're done!
@Zerg - Thanks man, yeah I looked at the army all laid out on the table and the Kroot were by far the most numerous so I figured get them done quickly and have fun with the rest.
@EDC - Cheers, I like there is variations in skin tone across them as well, some really like, some really dark.
That Knight has come up amazingly well. I'm impressed at how good it looks, and it works really nicely for a GK ally, as others have said, especially with all the script.
The Kroot look pretty cool as well, but having just caught up through the last few pages, the Knight is the obvious standout!
Fair call on pushing through so you don't have to do more. I've found my system of small->medium->large->small->medium and so on works well for me or else I'd do all the bigger stuff and not any small
Nice Tau army you've got arrayed there. Going to be cool when you've got them all done up.
@Mad - Agreed, I should really do a similar thing, I really want to get the kroot done though
@EDC - I hope so, it wasn't my idea on the paint scheme or the model base, but hey, at least I get to paint it
@Master Azalle - Cheers
@Wolvey - I like the natural tone, great to see you like them too!
Update: Ok so I wanted to get all the current models primed and with one layer on them, top left are bases that have been primed brown and will get a darker brown airbrushed over the top, top right are going tin. Centre is going a middle grey top down
Update: Results of the airbrushing, I also started on applying sand to the other bases, silly thing is I should have done the basing before I did the prime/airbrush, but I've learnt that mistake
They are looking really nice Knightley. Did you magnetize the drones? I hate flying stands. I really like the subtleness, I know I said that about your kroot but the scheme just looks great together. Need a storm surge just for kicks and looks
Didn't magnetize the drones, the magnets I have a lot of are pretty weak and the drones ended up being to top heavy to work as well as I wanted to, so for now they are plug and play. I'll think on the stormsurge, its a costly kit so perhaps as a treat for myself
Update: Had a great game vs Mad yesterday, Chaos demons vs Nids, plenty of hilarity and death on both sides, he eked out a win. I have some pics so will see what I can do about a battle report for you all, in the mean time, dry brushed all the rocks on the bases (this actually took a while, trying as hard as I could not to get bone on the black parts of the models wasn't easy.
@Gits - Quick recap below, I really should take better notes when gaming.
@Zerg - Yeah, agreed need another focal point to the army
@Mad - Agreed, I had a ton of fun, i've only played demons a couple of times so it was nice to try them out again. Perhaps next month?
Update: Recap of the game below C&C welcome
Spoiler:
Scouring 1500p Nids vs Tzeentch demons
Swarmlord + 2 Guard
Tervigon
Zoanthrope
Venomthrope
Exocrine
4x Rippers
Mawloc
Spore pod
Dakkafex
3 warriors cannon 2 x devourers
Lictor
5 x Genestealers
2 x Heralds psyker 3 disc gift
Demonprince wings, pskyer 3 gift
Kairos
3 x 11 man horrors
1 x soul grinder
Four point obj in his half in some area terrain, Mad sits the warriors on it, 2p near tervigon 2p near middle horrors, 3p in open near bastion, 3p near silo. 1p near grinder
Deployment
Demons first,
I boost up Kairos and the Demon Prince, I then Zoidberg the Soul grinder sideways to get a shot on a lone stealer, why not Zoidberg?
Psyhic phase, try to summon one group, fail, manage to summon a group of horrors, perils, lose D6 warp charges, roll 5, argh! DP screams at swarmy manages 2 wounds on a LD 10 model, but applied to the Guard instead
shooting winds of chaos roll up khorne, D6 wounds and hit 4 units I think, manage to kill the Venomthrope as it ignores cover!
Grinder shoots at one stealer who dies, thats all.
Nids first
Mad charges swarmy up and runs to add some distance. Tervigon and Zoan move up but keeps a toe in cover, spawns gaunts, doesn't cork.
Lictor bursts out of ruins, shoots at horrors, fails warriors fire at the same squad take down 1 or 2.
Exocrine shoots at kairos, rips him down to 2 wounds....
Lictor charges horrors loses combat by 1.
Demons Second
Zoiberg the grinder back the way it came. Horrors beat the lictor, did not expect that.
Both DP and Kairos 90 degree turn and vector strike swarmy but fail to do anything, DP screams at warriors, does 1 wound
Try summoning again, get one group in, deepstrike back feild, then summon flamers near gaunts, try summon more horros, perils, same as before lose 5 warpcharges, right not doing summoning first again. Warp storm table, get to place a unit! yay place them near tervigon.
Flame the gaunts, leaving 1 alive, but with FNP now (passed toughness test like a boss)
Nids second
Pod + Dakkafex come down on open objective and shoot up the lictor killing horrors weight of fire includes warriors only 4 left now, rippers land near exocrine.
Tervigon spawns 16 gaunts, but corks :( those gaunts charge the horrors in front of them, tervigon shoots at the flamers, does a wound.
Stealers charge the back feild horrors, whiff the rolls and we stay in combat.
Exocrine shoots at DP takes him down to 2 wounds (this thing is on point for shooting in the air) Swarmy tried to charge the backfeild horrors but fails the charge distance.
Demons third
Crab shuffle the grinder forwards a little bit, shoot at swarmy but no damage. Kairos tries vector striking tervi fails, DP tries vector striking Exocrine fails. Back feild horrors summon demonettes near the exocrine horrors near the 1p objective summon bloodletters. Horrors in CC with gaunts start to get melted but stick with 2 alive
Flamers hit zoan give it +1 fnp, then charge in and do a wound 4 remaining horrors manage a backfield summon near 4p objective, kill a stealer in CC lose 1 in return
Warpstorm comes through again, I get to place another unit, so good!
Nids third
Mawloc hits the demonettes and kill 4 and can be places (thanks to spreading out)
CC'd gaunts wipe out the horrors, swarmy detaches and tries to assault the bloodletters, fails charge. Rippers charge and kill the horrors but take some wounds in return.
stealers end up on one model left. Zoan gets taken out by the flamers.
Demons 4th
DP flies forwards and screams at the tervigon doing 2 wounds, Horrors leave the 2p objective and charge the pod, and do nothing, but at least it can't shoot now.
Demonettes hit exocrine and do nothing lose 2 in response but at least it can't shoot
Left most herald detaches and heads for the 2p objective in my half.
Finally take out the last stealer, yay. Flamers move closer to the gaunts and flame them, also giving them +1 FNP (seriously guys...) Bloodletters charge the gaunts and do a bit of damage.
I have so many horror units its rediculous, summon a herald and a unit of bloodletters near the 4p obective.
Group of horrors near the 4p charge in and... almost die, leaving 1 alive yay horrors!
Warp storm giving me a 4+ invun oh yeah!
Nids 4th
Mawloc goes back in to reserves Rippers screen the warriors but don't get far enough across to stop a flank.
exocrine kills another demonette.
Warriors wipe the remaining horror away elect not to move anywhere. Termingants finally die to the bloodletters.
The pod kills a horror, the take stability and roll snakes eyes and get the unit back to full health!
Demons 5th
SUMMON THE BLOODTHIRSTER! it might be to little to late, but I need the power. 3 x Horrors charge the dakkafex eat the overwatch and die, full group charges in and do nothing, but at least it can't shoot Detached herald heads north to try get closer to the 4p objective Blood letters multi assault the warriors and rippers
Flamers charge the lone termingant. Horrors charge the tervigon and do nothing. Horrors charge the tyrant gaurd and manage to pull them off the 3p objective and do a wound! (at this point only swarmy is not in combat, every other unit is in close combat, hows that for irony)
Demonettes are down to 2 models on the 3hp exocrine
Warpstorm strikes me down giving me a 6+ invunerable save, I guess the gods a fickle huh?
Nids 5th
Mawloc tries hitting a full group of horrors scatters onto ruins does nothing, Swarmy heads back to the 2p objective incase he's required. Exocrine manages to kill the remaining demonettes. Swarmy charges the bloodletters and butchers 2 of them.
The pod and the dakkfex continue to slowly grind through horrors.
Game end on a roll of a 2 and Mad wins the day 9p to 5p a very very enjoyable game with so much random thrown in.
Look great Knightley, rank and file is always boring. I think you stole my peacocking highlights with that grey and black combo Love the bases and cheers mate!
Quick question, did your Kroot have a lot of mold lines on them when you were putting them together? Mine sure as hell did, took a while to clean them up and I still missed a few that I will really need to fix before I try to paint them. Looking forward to the hounds and Krootox!
@Wolvey - Heh I stole the idea from somewhere, I can't recall so I was hoping it was you much much earlier
@Zerg - God yes, there were lines on everything! I think I spent 3 weeknights just mould lining, horrifying.
@Solar - Yeah there is a reason for that, squishy, guns are a bit weak, not good shots and not enough attacks in CC just leads to a poor overall preformance.
Every so often, I think I've been productive, and then I come here... looking great as ever, but I never doubted you could make these interesting after the tedium of constant crons
@M.K - Heh cheers bud, was hoping you'd pick up on that
@Graven - I would hardly consider you slack! you've got a new wee one and yet your still smashing out a solid amount of models
@Solar - Agreed, however I just looked at how many drones there are (and I need to get more) so perhaps the repetitive part isn't over just yet
@Wolvey - You think? I was of the impression it was an easy way to do bases (and back when I started I really needed an easy way) if I could go back I'd have done the bases even simpler.
@Azalle - Thank you, I'm happy to have them all done now so I shouldn't need to go back and do them ever again!
Update: Didn't get any time to paint today so here's a group shot of all the Kroot
@Zerg - I have two squads of Vespids, one already painted the other primed and ready to go
@Mad - Oh yes, and large blasts will shred these guys like tissue paper!
@EDC - I already had flashbacks, took me a while to put them in their foam case as well, took up a whole shelf of foam to store them to boot.
@Wolvey - If I need some cheap troops for mid game backfield objective grabbers I'll stick a hound in there for outflank. the of course, 3 squads of 20 for large game lols.
@Solar - Heh, it just means they will need to kill more to feed appropriately.
Update: so figured I had done a bunch of base coating of tin so lets get that to a position I would be happy with. This is with a purple wash over all the Tin bits.
Update: Now the majority of easy tin is done, time to focus on the drones there is still 12 or 13 I need to get. Here I added a spot colour of light grey to the sensor spines.
@Mad - Perhaps I might have enough painted for our next game and it'll be a hard slog across the board to get into close combat with me (BTW I hate playing like that)
@EDC - Agreed, that little tidbit was passed down to be from an old ex-GW redshirt who has taught me a lot about painting.
@hk1x1 - Thank you, I can't claim it was my idea the guy who owns some of this army came up with it, I'm just realising it.
@MarsNZ - Theres a ghost from the past, missing painting eh chief? I have boxes and boxes now of stuff on the gaming shelf, not a lot of room thats for sure.
@Solar - I know, right now I'm trying to get through as much of the numerous models as I can, 60 Kroot 30+ drones makes a huge dent in the painting backlog.
Update: Lined with a bright green/white to make it glow
@Gits - It was surprisingly easy, having a very watered down green/white just flows into the recesses and requires enough paint on the brush and that's it.
@Graven - Heh, I could hardly fill these up with squiggles, thats saved for humans not for fish people
@EDC - Thanks
@Solar - Cheers, still have like 20 fire warriors, 12 stealthsuits and 12 pathfinders to churn through so more batch painting to come!
Update: Drones done, with the amount of guns and options I can run a number of different drones
Gun drones
I like your Tau stuff! Your method of doing the green intrigues me; letting the paint flow into the recesses like a wash. My method would have been to paint the groove parts green and then paint the rest of it over with the gray (similar to the way I paint the Fire Caste symbols on my own Tau models), but obviously your method seems to do the trick just as well, if not better.
@Cam - Cheers, I wanted a simple scheme that would look good at 3ft I think I have one
@Zerg - Yeah I like the look of your Tau as well, How long does it take to paint a single trooper doing your method?
@EDC - Hahah you can still make the joke I figured I would go with "metals" and guns being Tin/Bronze so check out below hopefully you can see what I mean.
Knightley wrote: @Zerg - Yeah I like the look of your Tau as well, How long does it take to paint a single trooper doing your method?
I really can't say, as the only basic Tau troops I did were Breachers, and I took my time with them and did them in batches. As far as actual time spent with a brush in my hands working on them, I might guess I spent 3 hours on each batch of five, but I'm really guessing when I say that.
Liking the tanks so far, the spot colors really do make them look less monotonous. Same idea I had when I decided to put a few gray panels on my Commander and Stormsurge, it breaks up the color and makes the model look more interesting.
you got it, back when the tau first were released I rushed to put them together and put the pad on the wrong shoulder and I used plastic glue. So for now all fire warriors will be all derpy with the pad on the wrong side.
Hah Knightley! I did that with Space Marines when I first started too, I had them look like football players! When Tau first came out I had to buy some too, they came out awful.
I never use plastic glue, I've learned the hard way and destroyed too many models that way.
Your Fire Warriors are looking good though. I don't think they look derpy.
Your Tau are looking great. From the Drones to the Tanks to the Infantry. I also hae to say that green glow and the rest of the colours you've chosen work really well, and are outside the typical box to boot.
Y'know, actually the paint scheme you are using (with the bright color in the grooves) actually makes your Tau models look like they belong in Tron or something. Which is totally cool, you've done well with them, and these Fire Warriors are no exception!
Good catch, that was what my mate (who asked me to paint his dudes) was looking for, he liked the dark colours with the neon glow
Update: well I'm rapidly running out of time for my completion date so I am going to have to try kick it up a notch with speed, this may sacrifice painting quality but I guess so long as the look good at 2ft away the job is a good one.
First up a quick and easy support turret, the missile pods have magnets.
Very impressive that you managed to magnetize all the options on the Stormsurge, considering the main guns have a shared core part. That must have taken a lot of time, not to mention quite a few magnets!
Very nice. These Tau really match your painting style nicely. Are you going to paint the missile heads a different color? Would really make them spectacular.
Is it hard to make Broadsides' weapons swappable? I figured you would need two sets of arms or something for them. Since I don't have any kits and I am considering getting some, I am curious as to how it was done.
@Gits - Agreed, I asked my mate who gave the go ahead on the colour scheme and he was happy with the current set up, I'll wait for him to see them in the flesh and suggest it again.
@Zerg - It wasn't that hard, both arm sets are independent of the other one (not like a VX8 suit where the arms are the common item) I used 4 magnets for the arms one in each round ball joint and one in the missile pods sockets, the Railguns are tight enough they hold in place without magnets and with the small cuts required for the missile arms you can squeeze the railguns on to the joints. If you would like I can take some close up shots of one of them?
@EDC - Hahah yes, there is a stupid amount of fire power on these guys, combined with the missile drones and the buff-mander they are a scary unit indeed.
Knightley wrote: @Zerg - It wasn't that hard, both arm sets are independent of the other one (not like a VX8 suit where the arms are the common item) I used 4 magnets for the arms one in each round ball joint and one in the missile pods sockets, the Railguns are tight enough they hold in place without magnets and with the small cuts required for the missile arms you can squeeze the railguns on to the joints. Yeah, that would be great! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from it. Maybe you could even explain it over in the P&M Tutorials section of the forums.
These Tau are looking really nice. The neon is very effective on the deep green armour.
Since you're familiar with the kit - How hard would it be to make that giant rail cannon thingy a shoulder-top-mounted weapon? Like this (but single barrel, obviously)
Spoiler:
And for that matter, to make the missile pods into arm replacements at the shoulder? Sorta like this:
@LDP - I channeled my inner LDP and wanted a commanding pose looks like its on point
@Azazelx - Railgun: might be a bit tough, you could cut where the arms connect, but there isn't really anything that has a *shoulder* per say so you'd have to come up with a new shoulder. Missile pods: seems easy enough, you cut where the fore amrs meet the pods and that could almost just attach to the shoulder balls without much worry (I'm assuming you want it to look like a mini Stormsurge?)
@EDC - Cheers, heh it wasn't intentional, I wanted to break up the sea of black so the light grey was the ticket I think.
@Cam - Thanks man, If it were my own specific Tau army I would have liked to go for a lighter scheme, I like how these look but they lack and real high quality detail my personal armies have.
@EDC - Cheers, I think the photos aren't giving a good enough count of what the wash on the light grey is, is should be a black wash, bugger it shows up green.
I can't get over how clean your paintjobs are. On mine, I lay down the base colors then I have to go back and touch up a bunch of stuff because I'm kind of sloppy. Do you have to do all kinds of touchups or is your steady hand just that much better than mine?
Combination of both I find, I try to be as careful as I can when on the edges and quick and sloppy with the middle, I do have to go back on a regular occasion, however if its on the bottom of something I'll tend to just gloss over it.
Update: Washed the greys and finished up the dark greens
I like what you did with the shields on the two suits in the bottom pic. I might just have to steal that idea and put my own twist on it: blue like I paint all my Tau in, then yellow on the rim. I might just try that!
I love the suits, they look really sharp. The bronze, however, bothers me generally. It's quite flat and uniform. It may just be the pics but it doesn't quite gel for me. Sorry bro.
@Zerg - Heh, It's a combination of a drone top with some Green stuff over the indents and cut out a forearm channel to make it closer to the army.
@Graven - No worries, It's not my favourite as well and the owner to the army can make some suggestions if he agrees (So far he is happy with how they look) I suspect it will be even more visible on the larger models coming up. I think with the pace I'm trying to maintain the guns will look rushed, but I have a dead line to work to :(
Update: Started on the Bomber
Edit: the Tin is dry brushed bronze over the top which doesn't show that well on camera
You know... I love all these knightley, but the copper bits really do need some extra work. I'm not criticizing you for that... assume it's the way the client wants them. But they look out-of-place when compared to the rest. Just a bit too flat in comparison.
Agreed, I've raised the idea of adding something to them, at the moment he likes the look, but I suspect that might change when he sees them in the flesh
@Zerg - Funny you mention that, the drone you see here were part of the drones from 2006 and while in 'storage' a phrase I use loosely, they became damaged and the antenna were lost. I thought they looked quite streamlined and only needed to cut one of them to have 4 for the piranhas.
@EDC - As the copper is a relatively dark brownish metal I would look to perhaps doing it in the light green on anything with a circular bit on it, probably on the tau symbol. also would add the grey as a spot colour on a random bit to break it up as well.
Update: Next are some vespids - first coat of blue wash over white
@Cam - Hahah, I guess following the trend they should have been green, back a couple of years ago when I did the first batch I should have really thought on that
@Gits - Thanks
Update: My mate came over last night so I did an impromptu army display for him, he like the look and is really happy with the painting on them as well so the large tin bit areas are here to stay for now sorry chaps. I'll keep plugging away to change his mind.
@Zerg - There are 12 stealth suits, commander shadowsun, 10 breachers and a stormsurge. Might be able to get this done in a week as we have ANZAC day here in NZ on monday!
@Gits - It feels a lot longer than it really is, I feel like its been like 5 months doing this army.
1500 points
The Scouring (victory points)
Hammer and anvil
Need a disclaimer here, Mad had wanted to face the Knight after seeing it completed on the blog. I would not normally take one unless agreed to with my opponent.
Spoiler:
Nids vs GK/Inq/Knight
Nemesis Strike Force - Aurelia
Librarian, ML3, MC Demonhammer, Liber Daemonica, storm bolter
Strike squad, incinerator, TL las razorback
Terminator squad, psycannon, hammer
Nemesis Dreadknight, Teleporter, Sword, Psycannon, incinerator

Tyranid scout force
Flyrant TL Brainleech devourers, electroshock grubs
Tervigon
Venomthrope
Zoanthrope
Warriors with Barbed Strangler
Hivegaurd
Exocrine
1 brood of Termagaunts
Screamer killer fex
Tyrannocite
Mawlock
Nids win side and first turn, I failed to seize.
Deployment: I had quite an advantage here as I had quite a bit of 36" shooting with that in mind, I made sure I had units behind cover and further than 30" away so there wouldn't be a lot of nid shooting turn 1
Flyrant right at the back of the table, Zoan in the trees with the hive gaurd on the grave yard next to him. Warriors and venomthrope in the mid ground with the exocrine toes on the bunker, tervi also with a toe on the bunker and the gaunts lined out in front. In reserves, Screamer killer with pod, 2 x rippers and a Mawlock
Henchment squad 1 and 2 left with the Knight behind them, NDK Centre, Terminators +Inquisitor +Libby out of LoS from the Excorine, Razor and henchmen Squad 3 on the right flank.
Nid First turn.
The tyranid force lumbers forward, acknowledging they were all out of range, there wasn't to much else happening. The flyrant boosts forward to be within 24" of the terminators, only in range of 1.
Pychic phase as onslaught go off on the hive gaurd to have them run a bit further.
Shooting as the Flyrant kill one terminator (all those dice, yikes)
GK First turn
NDK Zoidbergs right, armour on the right pushes in to the area terrain, no immobilised yet. Terminators move up on the right of the storage stack.
Knight moves forwards and right with the two chimeras shuffle back and sideways to get some shots on.
Psyhic phase has invisibility go off on the knight, sanctuary on the NDK and Terminators
Shooting has the knight, two chimeras and the razorback take two wounds off the flyrant, it stays in the air, that was lucky.
Remaining chimera pot shots at the gaunts and takes 1 or 2 off.
Nid Turn 2
Flyrant decides that continuing on that flightpath is a silly idea and 90 degrees his butt out of there putting the bastion between the knight and him.
The rest of the brood move forwards to try gain more ground. the exocrine moves to the corner of the bastion ready to shoot at the terminators should they show them selves. The Rippers and cyte come in and hit the mark on each scatter, very impressive! Tervigon spawns some gaunts
Psyhic has onslaught go on the hive gaurd again to run further forwards, still out of range.
Shooting has the bioplasma try to shoot at the knight, but we then remember its invisible... so he shoots at the chimera with the pod doing a hull point. The ripper focus fire on the terminators doing a wound on the inquisitor and killing another terminator. yikes, at this rate i'll lose them all!
No assaults this turn.
GK turn 2
The strike razor moves forward and disembarks the squad with the incinerator right out front of the rippers, terminators fan out to strike down the other rippers. The chimera on the right flank goes to move and immobilises :( sad panda. The Knight Zoidbergs left to get some shooting on the venomthrope and the NDK stays 2" away from the Fex. The Chimeras move back to keep shooting.
Psyhic has invisibility go off on the knight again. sanc on both the NDK and Terminators and Force onto the NDK.
Shooting has the NDK burn both the fex and the cyte shoots at the fex with the psycannon doing more wounds, combined with the chimeras. The knight shoots at the venomthrope and does a single wound :S expected more from that.
The strike squad burn the bases of rippers and throw out some stormbolters for good measure. The Terminators and chimera deal to the rest of the rippers.
Assault has the NDK charge in to the fex, striking first with a reroll, wounding at AP2 and with force, the fex gets gibbed and the NDK moves next to the pod.
Nid Turn 3
The pod moves close to the wounded chimera to try get some glances on him,
The Mawlock comes in this turn and elects to strike the strike squad (See what I did there) kills the unit with ease and does two pens to the razorback, stunning it and stopping it from moving next turn, but leaves it on 1HP. Regretfully the head of the mawlock must have got stuck in the floor of the razorback as Mad rolls a 1 on the deepstrike mishap and the mawlock dies.
The Flyrant does another 90 degree turn and moves forward to try do some hits on the Chimeras. The rest of the brood moves forward again. Tervigon spawns some more gaunts, but corks.
Psyhic has onslaught go off again and the hive gaurd move forwards, but only one is in range.
Shooting has the single in range gaurd fire and fail to pen the chimera. the flyrant opens up as well and does a hull point. Exocrine is out of range still. Pod shoots at a chimera and gets a pen and immobilises the model, but doesn't do anymore.
GK turn 3
Chimeras hold still and the NDK move closer to the pod. Knight shuffles just a fraction. The terminators move closer to the edge of the storage stack near the razorback but still out of sight of the exocrine, its a 6" move and a 11" charge if I try next turn.
Psychic has invis go off again, thank god for mana batteries, sanc on the terms and NDK.
Shooting has the venomthrope go down to the knight.
the pod dies to the NDK and one chimera, the flyrant takes some fire from another chimera but doesn't do anything. The terminators fire at the new fresh spawn of gaunts kills 2 or 3.
Nid Turn 4
Flyrant boosts forwards ready for a 90 degree vector strike next turn.
Gaunts move even closer to the knight, but are a wee bit scared to get into close combat with him (Not surprising really) rest of the nids shuffle forwards.
Exocrine realises he needs to make some points back and moves forwards to try hit anything. The Zoanthrope offers mind bullet support.
Psyhic has nothing done
Shooting has the Flyrant shoot at one of the chimeras and do glances down to 1HP, the Gaunts shoot at the terminators and the 2+ save fails to work killing another terminator, the warriors try a long shot at the razorback but do nothing.
GK turn 4
The Razorback tries to get off the terrain, fails dangerous and ends up wrecked. bugger.
The terminators move up the side of the storage stack. The NDK and Knight move to engage the gaunts.
The mobile chimera pivots on the spot to shoot at the flyrant.
Psychic has sanc go on the terms and the NDK. choose not to do invis.
Shooting has the right most chimera pop shots at the gaunts, kills 1 I think
The knight and NDK choose not to shoot at the gaunts. Both left most chimeras shoot at the flyrant and do nothing.
Assault has both the NDK and Knight charge in, I forget a bunch of rules for the knight which would have had him butcher all the gaunts (I opted for the Init step 2 hit of every model in base, but then forget deflagrate afterwards and do one stomp, leaving 4 gaunts alive. The NDK kills 4 gaunts. Both left stuck in combat.
Nid Turn 5
Exocrine shuffles left to get some shots on my warlord and his crew, the zoan is in support.
The Flyrant 90 degrees and vector strikes the chimera but fails to glance/pen.
The gaunts who were going centre table decide to go the other way, the warriors however will try get a shot on the immobile chimera on the flank. tervigon moves forward again.
Psychic has the flyrant out of range to cast and there is no LoS from the zoanthrope.
Shooting has the exocrine do a wound on the libby. the shots at the chimera fail to glance. the FLyrant pops a chimera but can't kill the guys who pile out the back.
Assault has the Knight deal to the gaunts, the NDK kills another bunch leaving 2 alive.
GK Turn 5
Terminator squad go for guts and glory and line up to charge the exocrine., the knight moves down the flank to try hit the gaurd. my henchmen on foot leg it for the ruins
Psychic has hammerhand and force go off on the terminators Mad manages to stop my sanc from getting off.
Shooting has the knight open up on the gaurd and kill 1 and wound another. the terminators shoot at the exocrine and do a wound (Yay)
Assault has the Knight end up in base contact with the gaurd and the tervigon, ends up taking a hit but kills a hive gaurd and does 2 wounds on the tervigon.
The terminators charge the exocrine take no hits on the overwatch (yay again) roll on psychotroke and it smells sweet, the rad nades however lower its toughness to 5 meaning the Str 5 inquisitor can wound on 4's, with force, who then manages to inflict that one wound which has the exocrine removed.
The NDK kills the last two gaunts and moves closer to the warriors.
Nid Turn 6
Flyrant does another turn and tries to kill the warlord. The Zoan moves closer to the NDK for some psychic bullets.
The remaining termigaunts move to wall off the NDK. Warriors elect to remain still to shoot.
Psychic has the lance hit the NDK and do a wound,
Shooting has gaunts patter off the NDK's armour. The flyrant gets a huge amount of hits and wounds on the Libby, I look out sir all but three, the Inquistor ends up dying but my warlord remains alive one more time! The warriors try to hurt the NDK as well, no luck.
Assault has the hive guard live but the tervigon die. The backlash kills 2 gaunts.
GK turn 6
The terminators roll round the corner to get into range of the zoanthrope.
The NDK jumps the gap to get some warrior lovin'
Psychic has the NDK get sanc.
Shooting has the warriors take a pounding to AP4 shooting from the NDK and wiped out to a beast.
The chimera tries his luck at the flyrant again with no luck.
Assault has the terminators charge into the Zoan and do a wound. The knight finally takes care of the gaurd.
Nids Turn 7
The 2 remaining gaunts fail instinctive and head back to the area terrain.
The flyrant does a 90 degree and goes after the NDK.
Psychic has nothing
Shooting has the gaunts and flyrant go after the NDK and fail to kill him.
The Zoan dies to the libby and remaining terminator.
GK Turn 7
Knight heads over to the other table half for line breaker.
NDK rotates to shoot at the Flyrant
Psyhic is blah
Shooting has no effect on the flyrant, the Knight kills the last two gaunts.
No assaults.
Game end. Both warlords still alive which is very suprising!
@EDC - I think 10 to 4 I'd have to have a look at my whiteboard, And yes I was a bad bad man for making a huge hulking death machine invisible. To be fair I couldn't risk him going apocalyptic in my deployment zone, he would have removed so many models.
@Gits - Yeah, they didn't really have an answer for it, had the Carnifex got into combat with it there may have been some hell to pay, but I wasn't about to let that happen.
@Solar - Heh I have a game this weekend with a mate and I hope to be fielding the Tau army. might take a pic or two
Update: very quick paint job on Shadowsun, she's all done
Oh yeah, definitely looking forward to seeing this guy finished. I had tons of fun doing mine, and I've had even more fun gaming with him, except for the two times that he got 6'd out by D weapons on the first turn.
Thanks for doing up the batrep Knightley, it was a awesome game and I really enjoyed it. I am constantly learning my army on the tabletop and I again learned a bunch in this one... like altering how I deploy so I can bring my gun beasts shooting before turn three
Totally loved facing that Knight LOW as well, so well painted and looks awesome on the table... pity my Tyranids couldn't see it because it was invisible teehee.
