Welcome to my WAAAAGH!! Mainly Orks, and I'll also be sharing pictures of other projects, such as my better half's Grey Knights (painted by her), my attempt at making a 6x4 game board, a Judge Dredd costume and whatever else happens.
I've now edited this first post to be only images of some of my finished pieces, rather than just showing a load of unpainted stuff on the first page.
All zoomable in the gallery (Click the image to get zoomable version).
And yes, I need a better camera.
EDIT 24/01/2023
NINE YEARS LATER: I'm back.
Kap'n Skullchewer
Big Mek with KFF
Looted Razorback
Battle wagon with Grot Riggers
Deff Dread with Grot Riggers
Deff Dread MKII
Skavenought
Looted Dreadnought
Da prophet of da WAAAGH!!
Meganob
Looted Predator
DA WAAAGH!!!
And now I've started my second army, Dark Eldar. I'm going for an ancient, decaying, rotten feel for the army, rather than clean and elegant.
So, quick update, army is slowly growing. I've finished another biker, and started on a Deff Dread, along with getting a few more infantry Boys finished.
And the good news is my Mrs has decided to start playing. The bad news is she's picked Grey Knights. The worse news is she's a much better painter than I
The Dread is slowly coming together, I didn't like the rokkit launcher as a hip weapon, so I made attached to an arm.
And I finished my first banner experiment.
Cheers. I know it's just kitbashing but I've been away a looong time, and am having to relearn a lot.
Not much in the way of updates. Life has been getting in the way of painting (Damn you, life!).
The dread (Which is called Gork's fang in my head) gained an arm and a couple of Riggers.
Your army is looking good man, although your camera doesn't seem to be doing your models justice with the macro shots! But looking forward to see that Deff Dread!
My photography skills suck muchly, it's true. Probably for the best though And the Dread is now pretty much all done, bar some paint touch ups and a little work on the base.
So, on with the Ork painting, but I still have about 50 infantry units to paint, not counting HQ models, so to break the monotony I'll be 40King some Skaven, inspired by some of the Skaven mods I've seen here and on other sites.
Not sure about the ammo box on the first "Skaven Dreadnaught", think I'll find a way to attach it to the shoulder pad (Unused Deff Dread plating). The upside down cannon fits almost perfectly into the "movement slot" on the shoulder armour.
Hmmm, interesting idea. Remove the tails and use Ork heads instead of Skaven. That's a good idea. I'm very tempted, but the thing is I really like Skaven, and am working on 40King some standard Skaven (Kroot and Tau arms kitbashed/modded onto Skaven). I think I'll pick up some more rat Ogres once these are done to try Orkinating them.
Thanks for the praise, Panda, means a lot coming from you.

Does it really mean that much? AWe shucks you guys are to nice to me, my conversions are often so light, it just a part swap i feel feeble compaired to the mighty ork converters like you i see. Well, i will be excited to see if the orky skaven work out. Other idea, is run skaven as orks in 40k? that seems surprisingly right. Or was that your attention all along? I can be slow to these things.
I'm just a kit basher!
That was pretty much the idea. I only play with friends, nothing serious, so we bend the rules as we see fit. Standard Skaven I intend to field as Gretchin. The Skavenoughts (Much better name) will probably go on as some kind of Nob/Ard Boys/Flash Gitz.
It's a shame there's no proper support for 40K Skaven, I think they're an army screaming out for conversion. Hell, a bunch of them already have guns!
This guy is getting a Gretchin pistol (Freaking love this model, just wanted to 40K him up).

i really like what you've done using the skaven body though. actually looks like a good place to start for making my own warboss!!
So, the point of this blog was the Ork army, not the Skaven that are so good at distracting me from my main goal. But the WAAAGH is definitely growing.
I totally need a better camera/lighting set up.
Small supply drop, Ghazghkull has arrived to kick the rockers into shape
This is my first experience with Citadel Finecast, and I was more than a little nervous about what I would get. I think I've been lucky. There's a lot of flash to clean off but no air pockets, thank feth.
I'm thinking of kitbashing/modding these two a little, but I'm unsure. Does this arm swap unbalance the look of the models too much? Ghaz looks a little overly bulky to me with both of his default arms, I want to slim him down a little, but not sure this is the right arm to do it with (No pun intended). I'll also be mounting the shoulder exhaust bits backwards, I don't like them facing forwards.
Holy Zod, this finecast resin sucks up paint like a sponge! Sneaky fethers, GW!
Going with a brown base for Ghaz, as his armour will be well weathered with rust, and I want a brown undercoat for his darker green skin.
Hmm... now if you are going to arm swap GAZ, you gotta go both arms or it will never look right. My suggestion, arm swap both, use plasticard to do some hydrolics, and more armor. RIVETS EVERY WHERE. enjoy life. I do like the arm swap on the AOBR boss it looks very fitting? maybe swap both arms? idk. I will wait to see what you put out.
Damn you, Panda! Giving me good ideas! I was thinking of bulking out the AOBR right arm on Ghaz with some extra armour, but now you've got me thinking of swapping both. Hmmmm.
Quite happy with the severed head hanging from the AOBR gun.
So, another supply drop. Although this one was the equivalent of dropping the supply cache right onto the heads of the troops. Still, not going to rant, done that in a different thread.
LET'S MAKE THE MOST OF IT!
Ghaz has had a layer of Leadbelcher over the brown, then a coat of black. Tonight he's gonna get weathered.
Hello, what's this? Can you guess what it is yet?
So the good lady made herself some custom bases out of glass discs and printed out ice texture. Looks pretty damn effective, I think. (Clicky for bigger)

i am very impressed at the simplicity of the ingeniousness. However, dont drop the mini...ever...
Heh, I know, right? But it adds a very nice weight to the mini. They're a lot more satisfying to hold, and actually easier due to the weight being at the bottom.
I can't compete with my wife's standard of painting, but Ghaz is getting closer to completion.
Puppets war have been in touch about the Orcoplane, and are sending me a new one. YAY! And they haven't asked for the other one back, so it's going to become a crashed orcoplane for scenery. YAY! Which is just as well because I'm a bit disappointed with how Ghaz has turned out. Well, tried some new things, and first time painting on GW finecast resin. Live and learn.

awe your painting is good, just not enough patience to do all the layers for sheer win! And that is fantastic news. <Farns Worth> Hmmm Yes... Awweeee.... Wuhh? </Farnsworth>
Cheers guys No new mini painting this week, for two reasons.
Firstly we have a new cat, he's a stray that turned up at a friends house. He's about 8 months and is terrorizing our resident cat.
And the other reason is a new project:
I'm pretty sure many of you will know what this is going to be.
Heh, wasn't much of a bet Not much in the way of updates. Been busy giving up smoking (Yay!), cutting off the new cats balls (Boo!) and cutting off all my hair (WTF!).
But things are starting to take shape Dredd wise.
Supply drop! So, puppets war sent me a replacement for the awful Orc Plane I bought. This time it was packed far better and the quality of the plane overall is much better.
And they threw in some really great Orc heads for free!
Loving those Russian Orcs!
Also today the Kurganova Sisters boxed set from Raging Heroes arrived.
Damn these things are nice, really well detailed models, going to be a pain in the bum to paint And the box they came in was pretty cool.
But the real stars of today's supply drop are the Kromlech Orc Juggernaut Mecha-Armour Squad. These guys are mind blowingly good. Amazing detail, fantastic sculpts and really great quality casts. I am in love with these.
Here they are against the kitbashed WIP Ghaz for size comparison.
All images can be zoomed in the gallery but my camera is crappy.
Cheers lads. I'm REALLY behind on my painting, as the Dredd costume is taking priority.
bigbaldjoe wrote: Man all of this stuff looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I too just got back into the hobby after 22 years and are returning to the ork way of life.

You can use a motor bike visor from any bike store? typically finding a replacement should work. That or try a costume store and "borrow" a visor from them.
Oh I can't take credit for the helmet. Ebay!
That would have worked perfectly!
It worked out ok though, as did the Mrs' Link costume. My Dredd won me a £500 bottle of whiskey!
Pictures from the night
I know what you mean. The russian guys didn't come out great. They look better in the flesh, but still not awesome.
Super soked with how the kromlech juggernauts are coming together. And what you can't see is the Tau on the floor has a grenade in his hand.
Cheers, lads. Got that big four way battle coming up this weekend. Chaos Marines, Necrons, Grey Knights and my WAAAGH!!
I'm going out saturday morning to buy a 6'5"x4'5" MDF board to use as a table top. This will be the start of my own scenery project, which I've been discussing with Mrs Squidbot, as we can easily fit 6x4 in our kitchen. With that in mind she came home with a present for me the other day, to start my scenery conversions:
That's now been stripped to this:
A lot of remodelling and painting to do on it, but I think it's a great starting point.
Cheers, Squiggy!
First post has updated to be less dull, and include some finished units.
I was painting another of the Kromlech Mega lads, but it appears to be turning into a killa kan instead....
He's cheeky, for sure, and this weekend he charged into a Necron pile and played whack a mole.
Also this weekend I started work on my board. I purchased 6 4'x1' loft panels from B&Q for just under £14. They are tongue and grooved so they slot together very conveniently, creating a reasonably secure surface, propped between kitchen table and ironing board.
This will be sprayed with Plastikote Stone Manhattan Mist, to create a starting point for an urban board. But for this weekend it was bare wood with whatever scenery we could throw on it.
Don't worry, I will crush the Grey Knights on behalf of Orks everywhere. Maybe.
I ordered some of the urban scenery from Antenociti's Workshop and have my eye on some Airfix stuff for scenery.
This weekend's games taught me I need more troop transports, the Necrons just kept me at a distance, slowly picking me off from a distance. I also had some awful run/charge rolls.
So I have ordered some non GW models to use for Trukk and Battlewagon conversions.
Yeah, Panda, not seen any progress on your board for a while! You're letting the Prophet of the WAAAGH! down. Speaking of; Welcome to the thread, Overlord Thraka, and thanks!
SO, I received some scenery pieces from Micro Art Studios, laser cut HDF. I cannot praise this stuff enough. Really awesome quality structures. It took me a while to cut out and put together but the results are brilliant.
I've also started work on my own battlewagon, early days yet but here's the main chasis, which is a Tamiya tank.
That terrain looks pretty cool from afar in this sepia tone. I can't wait to see your battlewagon, please go step by step on how to do it, because I have been looking for an alternative.
I'll try. It will be my first real build, so keeping a record of it will be entertaining.
I'm starting with two tank kits, the first being a Tamiya Russian Tank Destroyer SU-122
The second is a Hobby Boss Russian KV-2
The general consensus is that 1/35th is about the right scale for Orks, however I have gone for 1/48, which is still pretty close, as I feel these two models will help me achieve what I want while remaining within the measurements of the GW Battlewagon, which is approximately 6" long and 3 to 4"s wide, apparently.
The SU-122 is forming the base chassis (Side note; it comes with a die cast chassis, underneath the plastic in the picture above, which adds a very nice weight to the model) I will be using the main turret from the KV-2 to mount as the main gun, placing it on the back half of the SU-122 chassis, creating a similar look to the GW model. No progress since the last picture, so here's some boring close ups, showing the die cast chassis and Battlewagon commander.
I've also ordered an Airfix 1/48 British Forces Afghanistan Supacat HMT600 Coyote to be modded into an Ork Trukk
You asked for it, Nafarious... For those of you who don't care about the step by step I will spoiler it. As usual click the images to get the zoomable versions.
Spoiler:
So, I showed you the SU-122 base I was using, today I've done some work on the KV2.
This is the KV2 chassis with the turret mounted.
So let's CUT IT IN HALF! I'm not bothered about clean cuts, as it's Orks!
Next we have the other half of the top plating which is designed to fit around the turret mounting.
So let's CUT IT IN HALF!
And then we glue it over the cut end of the front half of the KV2 chassis.
Is that a Gretchin lying down on the job? It is! So let's CUT IT IN HALF! No, sorry, I mean, let's put him where he will finally go.
Meanwhile, the other half of the top plate we cut has its hatches added and is going on the back of the SU-122 (It already has hatches that go here but doing this will make it look less like the original model)
Which leaves us at this state, currently;
Still lots to do! And here it is with some puppets war bits from my bits box, to give myself more ideas.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Making the driver a cockpit area out of leftover Deff Dread and Killa Kan pieces.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Decided to move the commander into an armoured point at the top, for a better view of the battle.
Yes, the boards are pretty damn sturdy, For my board I'll just be painting the base and making the scenery modular. Maybe some small bits built in to the board itself.
But if you wanted to it would definitely be strong enough to do it built on, I'm sure.
After the Mrs learning the basics the other week we had a quick 600 points game today. It only lasted two turns as she had other stuff to do, but she really enjoyed it. Also, Kaldor Draigo is a dick.
Here she is reading up on how to toast Orks in the assault phase.
GREY KNIGHT TERMIHOIANWDOANDAWDA WAGGGHHHH DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA.. i think i scratched its armor....
haha grey knight terminators are super rough on Orks in assault. Gun them down with shooters - much more reliable.
Your table is simple and brilliant. Love it.
As for the tank, I feel like it needs more filling out. It seems to just put together, and not really supporting the feel of the design. So to speak.. Its a good/great start, want to see it finished.
The idea is that Orks being Orks, rather than make their own city they just took over someone elses. So eventually this will be a city that was once a human habitat but has been lived in by Orks for years. Also the desert is trying to reclaim its property. The markings are to mark out the road layout in what will possibly be a modular layout. Each board is 4'x1' and will not have any large permanent scenery affixed. Scenery will be individual pieces that can be placed anywhere on the board as with any blank board. So hopefully, if all goes to plan, I can arrange the 6 boards in a variety of ways for slightly different road layouts, and then place buildings on areas that are not roads.
Another boring update! Nothing exciting to relate. The Airtfix Supacat arrived. No good. While the scale is ok, the actual vehicle size is too small for an Ork Trukk. I could probably work with the length but it would be far too narrow. Shame. But I think I'll be able to salvage the model into a couple of war buggies. More on that somewhere down the line, as I have come to the realisation that I have a ton of half finished projects on the go. Time to focus on what I have and clear the decks a bit. To do list, in no particular order: Snikrot's backpack. Burnas x3 Lootas x5 Mek x1 Kromlech Mega Nobs x2 Ard ladz x10 Killa Kanz x3 Warboss on bike x1
That's just the half finished models that I need to get my ass into gear and finish painting I still need to finish making the Kustom battlewagon, and then paint it. Once all that is done I can think about the unstarted stuff.
On top of that there is the ongoing Orkville project, for which I have started constructing home made foamboard scenery. SO far I've made couple of buildings, unfinished, obviously.
Here's one shown with a Micro Art Studios catwalk.
The board surface is slowly moving forwards. The boards were de-masked today, after a black spray, preparatory to masking the black areas and spraying the remaining areas with a textured stone coat.
Got frustrated with my custom battlewagon, so as an interim measure I shelled for the GW version. I'm still working on my own but I don't think it's going to be end up big enough to really count as a Battlewagon. Probably a looted wagon.
Pretty pleased with how this one turned out though (Much higher rez zoomable version if you click it).
Long time no update! Not much new news, life has been preventing me doing any real painting, but not purchasing, meaning my WAAAGH has grown, but remains criminally unfinished. But we're getting there!
I also received an Ultrasmurf army as a gift. Painted but not too well, so there's another project for further down the line.
Orkville UK is coming on, but I'll post pictures of that next week, when the board is set up for a game.
Oh, and my brother, who got me into Wargaming as a kid, has decided he wants to play. As a result he bought himself a fully painted Black Templars army. That should be fun!
So, all I have to show is one finished Dread, some shots of the size of my WAAAGH now, and some WIP scenery.
It makes me happy too.
Lots of updates soon, but right now nothing much to show. I currently have a production line on the go, for standard Ork boyz, Kommandoz and Gretchin.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I decided Gridge wasn't going to have the standard AOBR warboss backpack (Why would he need two guns strapped to his back?) so I'm trying my hand at a little sculpting to give him a new back. Seems to be going OK.
Long time no update. Life has been getting in the way, which means I am way behind with my painting (I stopped painting for a while, yet continued buying Orks!). The waaagh grows, but for now all I have to show for it is a Predator I got from my brother, that I hastily converted.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hugely impressed by the quality of maxmini's Badass Biker. £14 as opposed to £40 for FW's Bike Warlord.
It is a battlewagon. It's a little smaller than the GW model, but not by much.
Thanks. The cyborks are pretty much done now, I didn't do much more than add some rust to their arms.
Life has been keeping me away from painting. But I'm back!
Expect to see a maxmini Ork Biker here soon.
Decided to keep the beaten up bronze look for the large units in the DE army. I'm going for an ancient decay feel to the army, rather than the clean, elegant style most people opt for with DE. I want the army to look like it's ancient, and corrupt, with vehicles and armour that has been neglected. They're all too busy getting high in Commorragh. This Raider is still a WIP.
Cheers, MT.
The Mrs used to make cakes, and has an airbrush she used to make custom designs. She doesn't do it anymore so the airbrush has been donated to the wargaming arsenal. WOO!
Undercoating the army was fast.

Raider looks great lovely finish to the metal. Could possibly do with a bit of dirt on the sail though, looks a little incongruous with the pristine red and white.
Orkshire looks to be coming on great, I love the signs
Yeah, totally kicking myself over the sail. Lesson learned, 3 more to do anyway. Will likely revisit that one at some point. We had a large 3 way battle in Orkshire yesterday, I photoshopped some of the pictures I took.
Ha, checking on the upload date for the first picture I shared of these guys, seems I undercoated my Kans in May 2013. I have finally gotten around to adding some more paint. Still a lot to do on them. Man I hate painting yellow >_<
May have gone overboard with the gore on the Bad Moon Kan, but never mind.
Apart from some touch up work these guys are done. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out overall.
I'll probably do some better pictures of each one and pop them in the showcase.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I did do some better pics, I'll leave them here too.
Death Skulls
Bad Moons
Went a bit overboard with the gore on this one :(

Your Mrs should start a scenery painting service and that street scene is awesome!
Whoever designed the Forge World Meka Dread is an evil genius. This thing is gorgeous, and fits together very cleverly. It;s going to be an interesting project for sure.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, for a while I've had this kind of self appointed mascot for the army. That one Ork boy that would seemingly have a 1+ inv save. He survived crazy amounts of shots and attacks every game.
Sadly he didnt' survive the Mrs' swinging coat sleeve.
Cheers. Just need to decide on a head for him.
The Dread IS going to be fun! I'm going to try and make this one a bit special (By my standard). And then, once it's painted and based beautifully, it will suck and die in turn 1 ^_^
So, it occurred to me, with the evidence suggesting that some characters being removed from new codices, Orks may lose a named character or two. Zogwort seems likely, as he has no model.
I started messing around with a model for him a while ago, and tonight I decided to try and get him finished before the new codex drops, otherwise I'll never finish him.
Trying to make him some snakes.
Ever have one of those models where, once you start painting it, you can't wait for it to be finished? This is one of those. SO eager to see how he turns out, I'm really happy with how he's coming together so far.
That's gonna look freakin awesome! I look forward to seeing him done, I've been on the fence for a while about buying one of the forgeworld dreads, but seeing that has just pushed me over to the side that costs money...
Squidbot I love the beaten bronze Raider, if I had thought of that I'd never gotten rid of my Dark Eldar! Now I have to resist the urge to get them again.
I love the Dreads, I need to loot some more and add crew like that.
Cheers Dez I'm actually contemplating sellling my DE. I have a reasonably sized force, but I'm just not that inerested in playing them. I love my greenskins too much.
I've learned (the hard way) not to sell my stuff...at least stuff I've painted. Put it on a shelf! You'll find later down the road you'll come back to it.
Dead right actually, Dez. I got rid of all my 80's 40K stuff and have spent the last few years regretting it. So the DE are now in storage (Commoragh).
Meanwhile, excited at the prospect of being more powerful in the new codex, this Bad Moon Weirdboy tried to summon a monstrous creature, while waiting for his new paintjob.
And I had to pick this up when I saw it upon ebay. Nostalgia factor over 5000
It's an article about the board game, with not a lot of detail, but still a very cool article, written by Ian Livingstone. Ah, those were the days. I got hugely nostalgic reading that issue, really hammered home what GW have become, compared to how they started. Hey ho.
Also, I finally got myself a KR multicase, so I did a quick video for it.
Long time no update. WAAAAAY behind!
Got a delivery yesterday. I paid £41, including postage, on beay for a GW case with assorted models that I couldn't make out too well in the pictures.
I gambled. This is what I got.
The Tankbustas, Squigs, Boy with big shoota, one burna, SAG, Gamesday Dwarf and Grots are metal. Everything else is plastic.
Well, I'm back!
"Who are you?" you cry, "Why should we give a feth?"
I'm me, and you shouldn't.
Anyway, got sucked back in due to enjoying Darktide a great deal, which lead to really missing 40K lore, and thought I'd venture into the Underhive a little more, so here's a House Delaque W.I.P.
More to follow, as I have Escher and GSC to do too, as well as terrain. All my terrain is long gone :(
