While walking i thought about a little idea, dakka dakka is filled with smart, techy minds, you being one. AND theres no good, deep minecraft 40k mod out there at the moment. so how about I assemble a team and make one,does anyone have an idea how to code a mod in minecraft? if so, we need you! heres some ides for the mod;
basic imperium stuff:
-make promethium for fuel, made with putting lava in a furnace and smelting it
-make a mechancum table, the main tool in this mod, power it with promethium
next:
-find a STC, similar to discoveries in thaumcraft they allow you to make the stuff, find as loot in dungeons
-build power armour and a bolter
intermediate:
-find an ork/enemy fort
-raid fort for more STCs
-arm yourself quite a bit
-find a titan......
a titan is like an abonded on from 40k, they avry in class but the bigger the more loot. they have bosses like chaos lords or ork warbosses.
expert:
-fight through a titan
-loot
-kill boss, take advanced STC, used for VERY high level stuff. like land raiders!
-make mechanicus armour, use this to build bigger stuff like tanks and vehicles. make them by like a coke oven or a blast furnace in railcraft
ENDGAME
-make support signal, it spawns allies
-invade biomes with a conquerer flag
-orbitally bombard areas with a battle barge
-make artifects
-build forts for your allies
-burn the heretics
what else could be endgame in this???
so, what do you think, could we assemble a good enough team? are you in, with enough dedication i truelly believe we could do this!

People do realise, I can't code. I'm looking for a head coder and a few other guys. Playtesters will be needed once we have a form of playable mod. If you know any body that can help call in a favour from them please. On the forge/modloader situation it'll be up to the coder.

I think your best bet to get a coder on board would be to create the pseudo code and maybe even some flowcharts as to how you want everything to work in game. This means you can show them exactly what you want them to do and it will give them a better idea as to what they are letting themselves in for.

Write it down on paper, the coder will be able to translate it. EG, as far as marks on Exam Papers are concerned (within Excel, which I beleive is Java): If a studet receives more than 90 marks, A*, else if they receive more than 80 marks, A, else if they receive 70 marks, B , else they fail(etc etc, I know I missed a few) =IF(Mark Received =<90,"A*",IF(Mark Received =<80,"A",IF(Mark Received =<70,"B","C")))

So the op doesn't have any coding skills, doesn't know how make a mod and is basically just wishlisting features?
I don't mean t sound harsh but isn't this a bit of a strech to ask from dakka community when the only relevent thing is that it has 40k skins?
Why not go for something simple? Like village defence game where you defend villagers from monsters. It would be easier to make (most features are in the game) and you would have something which you can build upon.

Also, not to piss on your dreams but have you got any idea how much time and effort is involved with making a proper mod?
I've only done a tiny bit of coding for a single game in the past, it was torture. And that was nothing but scripting a few NPC's and quests. Add in texture packs, item models, item skins, item mechanics etc. etc. and you're looking at one giant project that will most likely take years to complete.
A mod is not something you make on a whim.

Yeah, I second that actually. I was working with an epic 40K mod for the game World in Conflict, using terrain deformation and making the maps a lot larger.
A mod is not something that you just do on a whim. My mod went together during the course of 5 months before we even got anywhere near an alpha, with 3 different units for each side. Our goal was something like 30 units, plus titans. The project was shelved as a result of the immense problems with the coding.
I still have the mod, and play it a little from time to time.

Making new textures for existing mobs.
Your orks in the finished mod could simply be vanilla zombies with a new skin and you could use those in conjunction with a custom map (such as the titan) to get a lot of the feel of 40k with far less work than a full mod.
Hell you could just retexture bows to be bolters and the various types of swords to be different weapons.

I might retexture bows to be shootas or sniper lasguns, but I really hope that we could make a bolter, a bow and arrow doesn't seem to fit as a bolter. I love the swords idea, maybe we could find a way to make zombies spawn with swords, and retexture them to be feral orks.

I'm really interested to see this mod done! I got some ideas, like specific biome spawning: wild Orks in the jungle or in the swamp, Necron in the desert, Chaos SpaceMarines and daemon in the Warp/Nether.
I read somewhere ''battlebarge'', not at full scale I hope! I think it would be a bit too big for a minecraft map. If it's not at full scale, I have done one and I can give it as model
Oh... and no I don't know a thing about java and I think there is enough people for the texture pack. So I can playtest xD and maybe do some minigame or adventure map using the mod

Leather=power (weak bit for good reasons I'll explain later)

chainmail=librarian
Diamond=terminator (I'll let you do that, it'll be hard )
Reason I chose leather was mainly so that....
Using dyes you could make different chapters
Black dye=black Templars
Green dye=salamanders
Blue dye=Ultramarines
Red dye=blood angels
Yellow dye=imperial fists
White dye=White scars
Purple dye=night lords
Light grey=iron hands
Dark grey=iron warriors
Cyan dye=alpha legion

Sorry i got in here kinda late but i actually found a game that this might be even more perfect for... its called Starmade .... basically its like minecraft but instead of biomes there are planets and you build a spaceship to fly around between them and fight space pirates(DE/ Orks anyone?), discover abandoned space stations ( space hulks/ necron lairs), and trade with trading outposts( AWWWW YEAH BABY Rogue Traders). The game is currently in alpha and is free so just throwing it out there

A wolf could be a Cyber-wolf, as the Arbitors use. Cows could be Groxes. The slimes could perhaps be chaos spawn of various kinds. The blaze a Flamer, and the ghast would have to be some sort of champion on a disk.
I advocate the sheep being some sort of eldar construct maybe. The problem is there isn't enough mobs to put all the races in.
I'm also thinking maybe turning the Nether into the Warp, and having crazy textures and stuff in it.
Cobwebs should be alien gooey stuff. Pigs maybe should be squigs.

Personally I think Zombie Pigmen ought be Eldar- this would require re-voicing them as well, of course. This is because they leave you alone until you attack them, then retaliate with incredible fury.
The Nether could be the Webways, with Nether portals as Webway Gates- Obsidian could become Wraithbone.
Spiders, instead of Tyranids (though that does fit...) could be Screamers of Tzeench (the melta mantas) so that Spider Jockeys are Chaos Marines riding them? Or, if you could get separate textures for when Spider Jockeys spawn, they could be Dark Eldar Hellions.

A reason we've completely dropped the mod is because we don't have anybody able to code it, I'm currently learning numerous coding languages and java will be soon so I hope to be able to start the mod, but thatll be months.
