Hello all. My blog is beginning to feel clunky now theres so many hundred pages so I though I would chuck out a showcase of finished and based work (there isn't so much as I'm a lazy baser). I mostly paint old rogue trader models and necromunda. I'm also a massive fan of hasslefree miniatures so hopefully we will see some of those based soon.

I love everyone one of these models and your paint does these justice. I love all the character they have.

Awesome work!

Thanks massively for your comments squidbot and uncool villain. Oxygen for the fragile ego, it keeps me painting.

So I will continue to update this when things actually get finished (full painting to my satisfaction and a decent base). I'm working on some urban bases for my hasslefree civilians atm so they might be up soon. Oh and a delaque ganger jumping over a rusty sewage pipe is in the works.

In the meantime don't forget - THE INQUISITION IS WATCHING YOU.

Love the models and love the modern execution. You so often see this era of sculpting painted a bit garishly, the subdued palette is refreshing.

Genestealer hybrids are great but have you seen how much they go for. Damn expensive habit.

M4cr0Dutch I hope there's a magus in there somewhere

Here's a chap with a cool base - I'm using my old camera because the new one died so this image could be better. Oh well time to dig out the warranty.

Big update today. I had a busy day off.

Alyx from hastlefree

A mercenary - a bit of a wonky model this one.

Hybrid - One of my all time favourite models this

And these berserkers which I painted s years ago get some base love - you'll probably notice my painting style was a little more garish on these! The ones without backpacks are ancient - 1988 I think.

I love the hybrid, it is one of my favourites as well.

Below is the type of Magus that I have. You would have to strip it (I can't claim responsibility for the horrible paint job). Asuryan has given me permission to sell it or swap it for something, he likes it too much to give it away for free . This particular figure isn't too expensive on Ebay, so let me know if you are still interested and we will figure it out.

I remember that model, back from the days when every army had a colour scheme like an explosion at the rainbow factory. Not that it was bad mind you, sometimes I'd like to see a little more colour come back to the GW studio armies, which all tend to look quite grimy and bleak these days.

Scavtastic - I am constantly torn over whether to go garish or grim. So many colours to choose from.

Here is today's offering. I have no recollection who makes this mini - I think I snapped it up on ebay for a song.

I wish I had a nice desert background to go with this - Have to print one off soon.

I've got a whole bunch of RT eldar guardians but they scare me slightly - they show up imperfections really easy and need a smooth paintjob so I keep stripping them and starting again! Couldn't pin down precisely why, but RT era Guardians, even the plastic ones, really do it for me. Now that I think about it so do Redemptionists. Is it the pointy hats? I'm not southern I swear.

Old school  @ 2013/06/30 06:29:13

Post by: weetyskemian44

I love a good pointy hat too - They are what distinguishes eldar from all the other sci-fi elder race stereotypes. Also cultists and redemptionists are just fun because they are crazy mad.

Old model gets a lick of paint. This is the imperial scout from the RT era space adventurers line.

This last one´s a crewmember fro a citadel warmachine from the eighties.

Must be one of the first spear chukkas, like Notlob´s, whereas this one looks like a variant as the spear is actually a maze type weapon here.

Hey Gretar thanks for visiting and commenting. They are getting pretty old now huh. I will have to open a museum.

My infinity competition entry. I didn't try hard enough I must try harder. I think I ranked 10th out of 19 so I didn't fail too badly. The idea of the piece is that she has been flitting silently through the jungle to do some important mission and she has just stopped at the waters edge for a rest and suddenly noticed the beauty of the forest. I spend days making the base and only a few hours painting the miniature because deadlines make me panic. Don't get me wrong I'm really pleased with it but when you are in a competition for a hundred quids worth of models you get serious opposition.

I would say its not as hard as I thought. There's probably a tutorial out there that can explain it better than me. I like to do mine with vallejo white paint, P3 armour wash and vallejo pale grey with a hint of blue mixed in.

Oh and I did a brass bangle with snakebite leather (you cant get it anymore but I still have a fairly full bottle), shaded with vallejo sepia wash and highlighted with white with a hint of yellow ink. Here is a better picture. I think it needed a sharper contrast looking at it now:

Thanks paint_to_redemption.

These three goblins are a kill team - first the little one shoots you in the back of the knee, then the crazy looking one with the big rusty ball comes rushing out of the darkness and wacks you. Finally grandpa goblin serves the coup de grace and shanks you with his sticka. I call him grandpa because he is wearing slippers - he also has magic mushrooms in his belt!

Glad to hear you're all enjoying the nostalgia and the paint-jobs. I strive to improve my painting all the time and these old models deserve a little love for old times sake.

More pics - first here is a chaos sorcerer, probably 1985 (I really should check the slotta tab before I seal them in) displayed in my handmade dungeon floor tile. Made of milliput, cardboard, PVA glue and sand. I hope to make molds some day and sell casts on ebay (an idea that needs more thought)

Here's some dwarves - these were kindly donated by inmygravenimage. Drunk dwarf is 1998 I think. And thats the warhammer fantasy quest dwarf that. Very rare and beautiful.

And just to be different here are some models from marauder miniatures. Dark elf assassins 1990

Hengis the druid. I also have one of his giants. The one holding the tree. Its going to take a while to strip and assemble though. I was going for the getafix look with this paintjob.

The WH Quest Dwarf is one of my favorite GW models ever, you definitely do it justice

Hi thanks for commenting.

Back to sci-fi momentarily.

This is a 'mutant psychic scrunt' by veteran sculptor Bob Olley. I'm pretty sure he still sells these from his garden shed (mail order). Go to http://www.olleysarmies.co.uk for details.

Bob olley used to do the "Iron claw" range for GW back in the 80s.

This ones more recent and to get round copyright he calls it a scrunt. It not a squat, oh no.

The model appears to be drinking from a diseased hairless cat. Reminds me of that scene in Dune.

Bob's Scrunt ranges are great, I'm just disappointed that he discontinued the cowboy ones :(

Great looking models, love your panting style.

Thankyou!

Here's some more copplestone.

I wonder what this guys story is - he looks like he has been through the wars since he got up and dressed for work. I wonder if he has something vitally important in that briefcase or is it just his lunch.

Grizzled biker dude. The tattoo was painted on and the defined with a micron pen.

Man, I never thought those UGLY old school models could look good...but your painting is absoultely phenominal! I only started playing 40k about two years ago, so I'm "spoiled" with the new, fancy plastic kits.
I do own a few 2nd-4th ed. metal Marine models (most of which I absolutely hate because I just can't make them look good). Paint them for me? Please?!

Seriously, though...you've got some real talent. My hat is off to you, sir!

spectreoneone is that a serious request? I'm guessing not, but I would like to make it clear that I will consider commissions now that I'm running out of thinks to paint. I don't know if I have the equipment for anything large but If you want a model or a small squad painted up nice I will do it for low low prices. I don't know if I'm good enough yet.

moltar, squatkid and valhalla, glad you like them. Maybe mr shirtless had to travel trough time but he could only take things in a briefcase and go naked like in terminator - then when he gets there he realises he forgot to pack a shirt?

Another dark elf - this time from citadel in the 1980s. I don't like citadels 80s dark elves, they look slightly squashed and their crossbows are very badly sculpted. But I did my best to drag him up a notch.

That's my problem with old Citadel miniatures. They all look squished. That was because of the way they made their molds, but once I see the plane through which the mold lay, I can't unsee it. I have an Imperial Fists sergeant holding a bolt pistol to his right, that jsut looks flat, even with the backpack on.

This one is a bit more rounded. I think I went OTT with the blood maybe.

Damn this is some impressive work. Normally I don't care for the old RT minis, but most of what you posted have more character than I remember lol. Keep it up, I'll be watching for sure.

Man those 80's dark elves! Memories! They were terrible and I totally remember hating their crossbows. You have made them look far more impressive than I remember them being, though!

The marauder ones were way better! They were 90s models though - I think sculptors had got their act together by the 90s.

I love a good crossbow and it is a total shame that they made them so wonky.

the Marauder beastmen were great. I bought a box of them when I was in high school and painted them up. The box came without the unit champions weapon (or the hands which were attached to the weapon) so I made a set of hands out of poster tac, but a coat of glue on them to harden it up, then added a "solid steel mace" made out of a steel-painted toothpick for a weapon.

Sadly, the paint jobs are horrible. They're on my list to strip, though.

Do it! Seriously it will be fun to give your old models a modern paintjob, and get that guy some arms.

I find bringing an old model to life makes me feel good. Its like restoring an old antique.

It was in jest, and thank you kindly for the offer, but I feel guilty about others painting my models, as I want my models to be a reflection of my skill (which is why I stripped down half of my Tau army when my skill started improving). I have a friend who hates basing his models, so he offered to edge and highlight some of my models in trade for my (supposedly) good basing skills. He's done great work, but I feel sort of cheap for letting him work on them, because I know that I didn't make them look really awesome. All of that aside, I am just so utterly impressed as to how you make these models look awesome. I'm so used to seeing the old pictures of these models done up in loud, obnoxious colors that rarely mirror realism, that your work just has me blown away.

As a side note, you could definitely make some good money doing commission with work on this level. Again, awesome models!

Thanks for getting back to me! It looks like I have a commission anyway now.

I keep doing that - when I get better at painting I have the urge to strip everything that doesn't measure up and start again!

Regardless of how you feel about the model, you are making those dark elves look mighty good.
