That stuff he wears does look like magical stuff. he is a Big brute! Another thought, his skin may also be able to resist the heat

@ Shaso, I haven't decided on the skin tone yet. I thought that most of the creatures would start with an orange to yellow burning fresh liquid lava base working up through grey and black for the hardened stone parts. The Fire Giant I was thinking of doing opposite with greyish skin and the hair being orange to yellow.

I've tossed a little paint today on the fire giant, not enough to even take a photo, mainly just the base colors on the base (no pun there) and some on the model itself. Had to get the lawn mower working for the first time this year, I should winterize better, but last fall was so mild and so was winter, I think i didn't even mow for 5-6 weeks at the end of season and the grass still did well. Off to work now, I have both jobs tomorrow and just church on Weds. Hopefully I can steal time in the morning before getting the kids onto the bus, or between church and the Hospital.

I know the feeling. Our lawn, in the last week, has taken off like wildfire. Especially after the recent rain we've had.

Cutting grass cuts into hobby time.

That's a pretty good looking army setup. Are they glued down, or just blu-taced so you can use them for B-Sieged as well? I assume that you bought it for the Zombicide characters (like I did!)

I've had a play with the editor and created a mission for Z:BP. I still need to playtest it to see if it's fun or interesting. After playing so very many missions across all their games, I've found that many of them are quite samey really - at least when it comes to the mechanics. I've tried to make mine a little different.. though it really isn't that much.

N&R is an interesting part of the boards. There's a lot of stupid let loose in that section, and my tolerance for that is ...variable at the best of times. It's often that I have to give myself a break from a topic of interest for a week or two so I can cool off.

@Grimdork, I think it's more of a case of there's no lower arm day as he is very much a primate with almost a full second pair of arms instead of legs. Either way though he needs to adjust his program.
@Azazelx, I wanted to do the Kickstarter so I'd get the characters, but missed out by a day . I really am not a fan of these characters looks though, a big let down to me, plus ultra silly weapons (very arcade game/ anime inspired). Models are just loose n the carrier bases, the larger bases I glued some cork to them to help pull it all together though.

I'm sure there's a way you could get the character sheets, if you were interested. I also found a source online (I can't recall exactly where) that had fanmade sheets for all of the other KS exclusive characters that CMoN didn't provide. Haven't tried them yet, though...

I know boardgamegeek had resized most of the original Heros from zombicide to fit the new dashboard, so they probably have the b-sieged crew as well.

Littlest one was not feeling well today, so no progress to be had.

They are a 28mm scale, but then again the heroes are really exaggerated as well, I'll try and do some scale shots this week.

No purchases today ..........Yet

Just joking. I did see that Miniaturemarket has gotten the rest of the B-Sieged stuff from CMoN, so this army can expand further later on. I did stop by to see if they had received any damaged items(when I see something has just arrived that I'm looking for I'll swing by and check and hopefully grab a dinged and dented deal ). SO what could I possibly want to add to this army? I mean I'm at 2000pts and I haven't even used half the figures from the B-Sieged Box and one figure from the Blood Rage Box.

Well for starters I think I need some versatility, so besides the big guys I want to add some goblins to the horde. But since I'm sticking to the lava creature theme, I figure I can just paint these guys up as fire goblins.
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/cmnbsg008.html now they will probably be really tiny (snotling sized), but they might just be good enough to win my heart, here's a side by side of the master sculpts they showed.
I see them as firebreathing little turds to annoy the enemy....so goblins

The other main expansion I'm planning for this force is the Avatar of the Abyss.

I will plan on using this as a mammoth with a ballista on it's back.

Both are $15.99 from Miniaturemarket, but all buying is on the back burner till I get some progress on these guys.

This Is how I imagine the army to look

but my skills won't get anywhere near that cool of a look, but what the hey, I've never tried to get a firrey effect, except for some legion of the damned figures from way back.

Nice start on the Boomer, Theo. Are you planning to highlight to almost white on the fiery effect?

Post by: Theophony

@Grimdork, Thanks
@Evildrcheese, I am too, I haven't been this excited about how a mini turned out since I started painting Zombies......we know how that turned out
@Azazelx, I wasn't planning on it, I like the cartoon like look of it so far. Maybe once I get the army done I'll experiment a little more and go from there.

So yesterday I got that test model done and I actually got some painting time while the kids did homework. So things happen

that's all 12 boomers and the sergeant along with a siege breaker and a shooter with 4 layers of yellow done to them.

Here is the First Shooter with the four yellows done and then the red wash added. All the white areas will get the black-codex grey treatment.

Boomer sergeant at the same stage.

THe Siege Breaker completed with the black to codex grey treatment.

I think I've decided to do more of a burnt out base instead of Lava since the models would blend into the base a little too much. So for now they will get a Khemri Khaki base coat.

Also looking at the boomer sergeant his feet have an opposeable thumb, so it kind of ties into the fire giant there

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/04/01 12:23:59

Post by: Theophony

So yesterday I got some painting in between jobs. I wanted to continue the paint across multiple models to see if the army would look good, or if it would only look good on the boomers.

so here is the progress from yesterday

The Molen /Shooter didn't come out as nice as I had hoped, but I think they will still fit the rest of the army.

The boomer sergeant still needs the highlights on the black areas

All in all I think the army will look good together. It's turning out far more yellow than the glowy orange from the original pics, but somehow I keep getting pulled that direction .

I also am entertaining ideas as to what should be added to the army once I get it completed. No worries about if it fits into the Ogre army as the rules are pretty flexible with allies. My only concern is that the models SHOULD look cartoony.

Got some painting time today. So I started on fixing the Fire Monkey Giant. I had started him off as black skinned and was going to work up to grey, but decided to stick to the Fiery theme. Obviously still WIP

I think I need to change out the gold, maybe a copper color instead, but open to suggestions.

Also I need to figure out a color for the Monkey's fiery banana sack . I don't have any idea what to do, I don't want to do just leather and black i think would be to wierd and yellow, orange or red would blend too much with the skin.

here is the group shot so far.

also need to come up with color idea for the metal of the sword, should it be the same as the copper color of the jewelry.

The grey with that much orangey-yellow is quite an unusual look, but I think it actually works well.

Post by: Theophony

@grimdork, I did rush him with the time I had, seems the colors blended more than I thought, now that it's dry and I look again the yellow is more orange than the rest. Could be because I started from a black base since I changed direction after starting.
@Azazelx, I will be taking him up another layer of yellow, or at least revisiting the yellow, see above.

Only had 10 minutes this morning, but tried the metals as more of a bone color(buckskin).

I like it more than the gold that was there. Still need to do the belt, also must hit the skulls again and then shade them to be bone.

Just to quote myself and follow up on here - a good example is the Mantic Sci-fi thread, being one I'll be taking a few days off from now after my most recent vent about their "service" and RT's request not to make sarcastic jokes about them.

The bone on the giant looks quite good. I feel like you need more contrast on the superheated parts of these guys-- either a stronger highlight or a deeper base.

Thanks everyone.
@ Azazelx, I saw the exchange and even put my input into that conversation. Mantic needs to pull their heads out of Ronnies .
@ Josh, Hopefully the next few picks helped with the contrast, I've added even more shading after these pics. I want it bright as the darker tones are the dead/ cooling areas and not traditional shadow
@ Evildrcheese, thanks

So here is little update on the flaming monkey. I still need to decide on the monkey's banana hammock color, though I will be trying the gem colors shortly after typing this.
so a closer look at the skin. I have added a dark tone to some of the spots even after the pics here, so it's slightly darker in some recesses.

Also worked on the sword some more.

used red in the channels and went up to an off-white on the flames.
Also a closer look at the fist and one of the skin tattoo/scars.

Was about to try to hit the gems with black-blue for more contrast, but thinking that would be wrong. Could use some advice for the bone color and gems.

Thanks Cam and Oldraven

woke up early this morning and wanted to try and get at least another layer or two done on the black parts of these guys. I got the black done and kept going.
so this is how they looked about 6:30 this morning.

back side

profile

and front end

and group shot.

but then I decided to try and make the top ridge on their back look more like the Godzilla spines so i hit it all with an off-white.

I liked it so much that I hit them all with it.

I think I'm liking it even more now.

I need to go back and work on the eyes, but either than that they are complete, and thats two full hordes of boomers or 4 regiments of boomers.

Thanks grim and graven,

I have been having fun with these guys so that really helps. Well underway in getting my first full army EVER (30+years) painted .

To lead said army I need someone of exceptional skill, so here is the general, Grakamokdjhvdgabnzj....well something like that.

He has the pizza paddle of death, the set came with multiple of these guys, so later he will just be an ogre trooper, but now he is the leader.

Really trying not to go buy the avatar and goblin type guys, but money is tight right now. I have credit saved up and will most likely be picking something up soon, especially with MM spring sale going through Sunday.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/04/07 11:55:37

Post by: Theophony

Well Sarah my oldest child, who might turn 13 on Sunday (barring me killing her for not getting schoolwork done), had me up late last night on my only night to go to sleep early watching her complete overdue assignments. While she whined about being tired and not wanting to work on stuff now I simply basecoated minis, sounds like a quick process, but even just quick slapping paint on these guys took about 10 minutes each due to the textures and undercuts on the models. Also I'm starting to work up from an orange base on the figures instead of tau sept ochre hoping the extra layer will help out. I did it on the leader figure, not much of a difference, but we will see in the end when they are done.

Also had returns to do last night at Hobby Lobby. While there i saw some clearance mosaic tiles for 3.59 a pack. there are 48 in the pack and looked like 25mm squares. they have a smooth top to them, but they have wavy backside to make them look like cracked ice. I figured that the might make nice looking lava bases if they were actually 25mm. No rulers or tape measures to be had anywhere I went ahead and bought them.

The first test base had orange slapped on it last night to dry overnight. I was glad to see that the backs were already a dark grey color from the manufacturer. Also they are exactly 25mm squares so they fit perfectly onto old GW movement trays. I'm not sure what models will go on these yet as the mulfins (red goblins) are on 20 mm bases, but the models look to be super tiny, so they might get double based, or these might just be bases for allies.

@Josh, The tile painted up nice, forgot to grab a pic of it
@shaso, armor might get another wash of brown, but I'm liking the bone color with him, just looks alien, might do blue

Got more paint tossed on these guys today. Even more done, but didn't grab a pic of that either. Started on the black for them.

Nice work. The new guys looked super bright in the first pic but they're much more subdued in the latter pic, so they fit in well with the yellowy dudes. You probably don't want to hear this, but I'm concerned that the bone on the giant guy might turn out tonally a bit too close to the yellow of his skin (which looks great, BTW!) Maybe a dark orangey copper, or combination of copper with iron and/or pale gold?

Might be time for some photoshop mockups?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/04/08 12:03:18

Post by: Theophony

@ Joshinjapan, here's that base picture to show you. I think I did too many layers on top as it is too bright and the grey coating they have as the reflective backing is too hidden now. future ones will have less coats on it.

@ Azazelx, no Photoshop here, I'll think about maybe going copper on him, need to take a more recent picture of him as a little more has been done, but not enough to warrant photos yet. I am currently just trying to crush out the rest of the army to have one done .

Well I have remained strong and not purchased anything or gone by MM in almost a week . Their deal of the day today is the other big moster from the B-Sieged board game. Ikomoth the dragon at half price $9.99. He is for the expansion game set which I have not picked up nor am I really interested in trying to grab it any time soon.

Well I didn't grab pics of where these guys were last night, so here is their current state.

The Kings of War lava bowling team all in mid throw. I've gone for less of the hardened areas on the creatures arm and more specific on the body to help with dilineation between the arm and the ball of lava that they are tossing at the opponents. After these guys are done then I just need to finish the Giant up and then all that is left are these guys

Yes, three more guys to do to have a 2000 pt army. It may not be the best list ever, but I can expand and see how this works later as there are plenty more of these guys to paint up.

Also still looking for other suggestions to add to this army that will fit the cartoony nature of these guys.
Edit: fixed wrong picture attachment.

@grimdork, yeah, never a free moment, so have to paint when I can

Speaking of which I woke up extra early this morning so there was some progress. Terrible pic, but too busy making my oldest her birthday (13) breakfast of banana pancakes with chocolate chips and pecans. Church in a few hours and then birthday party (bowling), an hour respite and then bible study at our house.

This week should see the completion of these guys, but I have doctor appointments for myself and my parents that I must take care of, so might trickle into next week.

I already have a plan for the next army to paint, 2000 points there also, heck of a stretch goal

Thanks Everyone.
@ Cam, you don't mean little yellow lava bus special do you???
@ Grimdork, Yeah I think I was over ambitious with suggesting getting another 2000 pt. army done by the end of the month. I might add more to this army and then the next army wait to start next month. Figures for the next army are cheaper point wise so there will be a lot more of them to paint.

Well here is the update for today.

That's the last of my 2000 points for this army. I still need to re-address the giant, which I have an Idea about, but otherwise thats 27 models in a month. More of these will be next as the stretch goal.....just as soon as I find where I put them . But my goal for April was to complete my first ever fully painted army (2000 points). Done. 30+ years of screwing around has come to a close. Now there's still base work that can be done for these guys, but I consider them done to tabletop standard right now. I have a cunning plan for their movement trays, but that is another story, which might be completed by the end of the month, but could also just play with these riding on the green GW trays till then.

completed army shot.

Thanks Girraffex , I like them, and in the end that's what matters as I'll be fielding them.

I just did a count on the remaining models from the B-sieges set before I left home. I have 7 more of the guy with the pizza oven paddle, 7 more of the guy riding a boomer, 4 more boomers and another 20 of the sword and shield guys plus the six heroes. I think I'll do some more of each of them as stretch goals. Also have some more models from Blood Rage that might get brought over, a second giant at least.

Since I completed this set I might treat myself to the avatar or the mulfins to expand this out further.

Not a bad move, in my opinion. He kinda stands out a bit much in white.

Looking good. Looking forward to more.

Nice. I approve of the plan of rewarding yourself for painting stuff by buying more stuff. If only I could get my wife onboard with that philosophy.

@EDC, same with my wife , but I did order the Avatar to pick up today.
@Graven, Thanks, may not be to your level of awesome, but compared to my regular opponent and my usual stuff it is great.
@oldraven, Yeah he does stand out, but originally he was more of a living giant than animated magma, so different was alright.
@josh, Thanks, hopefully the new colors on the giant will help out.

well as stated above the Avatar of the abyss will get picked up hopefully today, if not definitely tomorrow. After the usual discount and my saved rewards points I got him for less than $10. Here is another image I found of him on the net for a size comparison.

He will be fielded as a war mammoth with a ballista on the back.

Things are coming together for you on the molten front. It looks good all deployed out like that. Also glad you are getting that big guy it will add a lot.

There is tons of literature on how to coop with attention issues. Most common suggestion that seems to work for my loved ones is take a 5-minute break every hour and on the third hour take a 15-minute break. Then work for the rest of the 4th hour and take a lunch or dinner or something for a while. Maybe even quit for the day.

Big guy has been picked up and has been primed along with the other models from the boardgame. might toss some paint if they dry quick enough.

Edit: Well this morning started off as Crap, so I punted the day, still have to go to work tonight, but got some painting time in today.
forced perspective shot, the Avatar is much larger than his orangeness shows in this picture because he is further away and the giant is sitting on top of a paint pot.

The giant has gotten his cream color redone to the stone color off of the other creatures to help him fit the army better, I think it works.

Here is a closer look at the chest stones, the eyes have since been given a turquoise dot to the center of each one.

The fist has also been redone in the stone, which makes it more menacing to me. The black dots have gotten the same turquoise on them since the picture was taken.

These guys have really come up very well. The stone look on the giant looks great - very effective and it ties in well with the rest of the army's rock-skin perfectly. Will you be adding gold/copper/etc accents or leaving it with the stone?

I've also never finished an army - for any game. I've played with lots of painted figures, and played with fully-painted forces, but never finished a whole army. That's my aim right now, first with Gondor, and then with... well, something else.

@Azazelx, there is copper on the chains holding the stones together and on the hair braids right before the skull end pieces, it just blends really well into the skin tones.

well I completed the Avatar this morning.

which brings me up to the current state of the army.

The flaming Monkey is looking more and more out of place next to these guys, he'll have to be allied in or something

Hope all goes well with your mum. My dad went into hospital yesterday, so I can sympathise. Hoping that he's out in a couple of days.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement

The monkey will stay part of the army, he's just too cool not to be hanging with these guys. His skin tone just wound up more yellow than the others, but I guess that's because he's made of fir and not lava .

@Azazelx, yes it's an ogre list and he is actually part of the list, wish I could give him a magic item as most of the army has shooting attacks I just wish he could too (flaming eye beams from the flaming monkey). Also hope your dad get better soon, sucks having to wait on test results.
@Comrade, swords staying the white flames off the yellow blade, took too long for me to get it to a color I like and I'm lazy.

The rest of the figs from the B-Sieged box set have since been primed and are awaiting their turn, now I just need to decide which ones next? I could knock out the last 4 boomers quick, or the 7 with the pizza paddles, or do I slog through 20 of the sword and shield guys? If there are any preferences let me know now, painting hopefully to begin tomorrow.

@Azazelx, Good idea, point taken, especially with limited time, plus getting the small units done helps with the motivation.
@Cormadepanda, , I'm actually considering something along those lines for the red goblin Big Git to set him apart from the others, or see below.
@Graven, I'd love to work on the huge unit, but they will be broken up into many smaller units, 2 per base and (counts as 3 ogres), unless I decide otherwise. With not enough time to hit them all at once I think I might squeeze a few in here and there.
@EDC, I still giggle every time I read your username , and thanks.

well I was inspired by a bag of oranges this morning to get some base coating done.

The four remaining boomers will be really quick (hopefully) to get done and I want to be able to field the pizza warriors of death, so they got bumped to the front of the line. I think they will be fielded as berserker braves, now I just need to find a suitable model for the Shaman to lead them, which might be a pizza oven .

Well basecoating is just annoying and time consuming, so little of that orange will actually be visible it makes me cry. I wasn't going to pick up the Mulfins until later, but I caved .

The image on the box, the story behind the Mulfins are they were just annoying little pests until a father (Orc) grabbed his sons box full of these pets and threw them out the window and they hit a mountain and blew up. Basically they are living explosives , and ever since have been used as ammunition.
But they are tiny

All 36 of them next to another giant from Blood Rage and a boomer, they are snotling sized.

Oh and more orange

My daughter is running a 3 mile race tomorrow morning, so no time to paint in the am.

Thanks Vik,

Daughter's race was called "The Color Run", it's a 5K or 3.1 mile run, no times are taken, but they have checkpoints and stuff and are electronically monitored with a wrist band. Along the route they are doused with different powered colors (a little 1:1 scale modeling ). It's fun only, and is called the happiest 5K on the planet. She had fun, we haven't even looked up the time it took her for her run, and she got a shirt, metal and the bragging rights of having run the race.

Orange is just the basecoat, but having looked at them this morning I'm almost dedicated to trying the orange on a marine .

Welcome back bye the way, Dave even posted in his thread, so the Band is getting back together . Our lives will all settle down again here soon enough.....I hope.

Thanks Josh, He was suppossed to be a frost giant, so a Yeti is not too far off. I don't know if I am brave enough to try it, but I think using some superglue or gluesticks to make drips off of the boulder he is lifting to look like he just pulled that chunk out of molten lava. Might have to do some tests on other items first.

in the mean time I worked on the last four boomers this morning and I'm sitting down for some free time right now to start on their black parts, but I thought I'd throw up this pick as I really liked the look of them and thought that they would make a great color pattern for some tyranids.

took the night off tonight, Mom was taken back into the hospital last night and I had to leave work early to go attend to her. One of the tubes that allows for the medicines to go into what is left of her stomach came out and needed a procedure done to install a new one. I took today off to deal with that and now i need to crash for a while, and have family time.

Edit: got these four finished, here they are hanging out with a friend who had been done previously.

Thanks Vik ,

Have a lot to do at church today, we have a missions conference this weekend, so I have to set up for that and I've been put in charge of getting some broken equipment repaired, so that is on my priority list for today as well.

I hope to have some time today to do some basement spelunking. Looking for some other things that might be able to join this army, plus I still have to locate all the decals that i have somewhere for shaso.

I am making progress on the pizza guys, but the prospect of doing the 20 more regular guys is a little daunting right now, so I need to find some more inspiration between now and then. I do have the 36 Mulfins that need to get done, I think I want a different color pallet for them, but I haven't decided what exactly yet, I might go standard color scheme for theme.

Suggestions are eagerly welcomed as I don't want to get into a rut.

@Comrade, I knew I had seen some similar to it somewhere, but I had forgotten where
@EvilDrcheese, Thanks, been a bit of bored with painting this week, probably due to my kids and I creating a clan in the game clash royale, and mercilessly beating each other silly

so no major progress due to boredom and little time, might get the urge in a little while, but I ddi nab this little plastic part from the trash

It was part of some littlepeople playset I think, but the mountain looks like perfect terrain for LOS blocking, plus the face on the side will get a bit of a lift from me and the whole thing turned into a lava looking volcano. I need a good name for him like Teh'Ton'ix, fist of the earth. I also plan on giving him a bit more texture with some sand texturing material I had picked up for dirt cheap and maybe adding some cork eyebrows to him to accentuate the eyes. Also if i ever get around to playing with the hot glue and trying to do lava I might just give him some lava drool coming off of his lips . He might even get a removable toupee of white cotton smoke that sits on his head.

Thanks everyone for the feedback
April has been a very impressive month for me painting wise. I had an actual concept for this army going into it, and it did not vary much from the plan. So with a little cheating (4 models were done last month in the last couple days of that month, but I'm finished a couple days early this month so in a months time ) I completed my 2000pt. kings of war counts as ogre army with a whole bunch of stretch goals thrown in.

here is the army shot

so that's 76 models in the last 30 days (36 of the mulfins in the last 2 days really bumped the total up, but People have said that individual models each count as one right? and they count as red goblins (with appropriate yellow bellied rule) in the game for me.

here is a shot of the mulfins, I decided to just do a simple yellow tone for them to help them match the army but not look like molten rock.

there is only 3 poses to those models, but they make a great line dancing formation .

Technically the army is not done yet. There are anothe 27 models that I have for this army, but I have enough points and models to represent at least 3000pts right now. The others will get done eventually.

As for May....I'm thinking of doing another KOW army, maybe not all in a month as the points per model for them are much lower, but I have a couple days to think it over. I also have more Black Plague to finish now that the next wave is due to us "soon", so it might be that.

Okay, still not set in stone, but my plan for April is looking to finish off the rest of the lava guys and maybe beginning to work on the next KOW army. I'm on my iPhone right now and it's bent a pain in the whatsit with trying to copy and paste, so you'll just have to wait or check out my Alkemy sub gallery to see the more recent purchases to know what I'm on about. But what the plan is for the is to use the Asian themed triad figures as the human part of an army and the temple workers. Then use the hybrid people as "enlightened" warriors who have been granted exceptional skills and strength from the Kami. I'm considering using the Herd rules for this army, but that might evolve. The other option is to use the triad guys as warrior monks and break out my old clan war minis and wargamesfactory samurai to build the harder part of the army. That might get played as baseillians, I'll just need to figure out the elohi. That would also allow me to field the two Asian dragons I have as the twin dragon characters.

So one way or another the triad guys are getting painted soon

Edit: thinking of doing dark blue robes on the triad with white leggings and purple sashes. Not sure if there is a religious or cultural choice for colors, just every Chinese monk picture I saw was reds orange or yellow clothes and Japanese pictures were blues blacks and white.

Thanks Vik

no problem with the shout out, I remember someone doing it for me when I first started out

I just worked up an army list for the new army....120 models, so not a single month plan . That's also loading up heavy on magic items at 2000 points and 2 big heroes (and 2 small ones ) which take up more than 1/3 of the total points

okay so now that I'm on my computer instead of phone I can link the pick of the Japanese monk I was finding.

The monks will be acting as sisterhood figures and the samurai will be paladins. The two big characters will be the two oriental dragons that I picked up, and the Elohi will for now be temple dogs.

Yeah that pic fits your description... am I mistaken if I thought you'd go for the terracotta army with this range of models? Otherwise Godspeed with all that whiteness

Automatically Appended Next Post:
By the way, I have four old possibly GW samurai...interested? In a month time they'd probably be over the ocean towards you^^

Btw, that tita thing going on with the US an Europe...Will we as friends and general hobbyists benefit from that?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/03 18:07:47

Post by: Theophony

Vik you'd have to tell me what TITA is . I'm not down with current events outside of Dakkadakka . Been far to busy with my lava guys.

Terra cotta guys are too tiny for me. They look good ranked up against each other and other 15-20mm figs but against 28mm heroic they are just too tiny to be taken seriously.

Old GW samurai would be welcomed, but don't put yourself out with the shipping costs.

The deal on the figs I wanted fell through , but I have enough between the triad figs and my old clan wars minis plus some wargamesfactory samurai to make this army, so test figures begin tomorrow.

Well I've just been watching this sit on the shelf at Miniaturemarket and I was thinking $30 for 15 minis is okay, plus theres the basic rules in the box and all. I can use the wolves to be the start of yet another army (all Lycanthrope army for KOW) but the other guys are not workable......

Until today, I can use these Ashmen guys as the Elohi for my samurai army And the Rathor and Longhorn can be used as Oni (something to figure out later). So now I CAN use all 15 models. So tempting......Then while I'm standing their at the store I get an email from miniaturemarket.com saying "take 4% extra off today because of May the 4th be with you day".......Well Played Miniaturemarket, Well Played . To top it off I had about $4 saved up in store credit from my loyalty points so the total was about $27 with tax, and if you spend over $25 and do a store pick up you get a spin on their prize wheel which usually lands me another few hundred rewards points (couple bucks) but today I hit the "Secret Prize" on the wheel which got me a $5 gift certificate .

So thinking about it I have all the animal men guys from Alkemy that were going to be a tribe army base, plus these wolfen means almost a whole army by itself (about to play with points).
The Alkemy Triad guys with these ashmen and other figs is almost another whole army.

So I'll be messing with points and seeing if there will be a new plan for this month in the next hour or two

They have 2 boxes of helhammers for Kings of war sitting on the shelf that are dinged up and at $17.50 a box (8 figs) so I might be grabbing those shortly along with another starter box if I like how they look assembled. I might have a rather large Nasier army by the time I'm done, or If I don't like the Nasier I might just buy some Wolfen from rackham and do an all Lycanthrope army. Choices Choices.

That is a good purchase, luckily the WoK stuff is finally starting to appear in the UK. Am looking forward to seeing what you can do with the starter set.

Post by: Theophony

@Thraxas, yeah they are starting to hit the shelves here too, Very interesting once I opened the bags... they are desprued plastics for the most part
@AOV, I think they've hacked my phone for location and send emails whenever I'm at the bank or at their store

Well all 15 are assembled, I wasn't expecting these sizes...

That is the Rathor next to an Alkemy Triad archer

A Steampunk Wolf Shieldbreaker next to an Ashen which are the same size as the Triad archers. I was hoping the ashen were larger to use as Elohi, I'll have to figure out something else for those, but these guys will still fit in the asian army. I am not attaching the back spikes that come with them, at least not yet.

The other wolves, they are all twice the size of the ashen, so they are LARGE.

The same set here, even from a FLGS hovers at around the $65 mark. Some nice and chunky miniatures there, I think you lose a touch of height with the recessed bases though. If I do go in for WoK I will be all over Hadross.

Ah ha so you caved in then Theophony.

I look forward to seeing what you do with the WoK stuff. I've enjoyed what little work I've done on that set so far. For the bases (assuming you want to use the supplied bases) I suggest filling them with wood or wall filler or something similar. The Skorza Alpha doesn't actually fit in his base so he'll need a proper scenic base (I've got a piece of slate from the garden for him) and the Ashmen look kinda silly sunk down so low IMO.

That's a nice find. Those ashmen are pretty nifty models, they'll fit pretty well in a fantasy-samurai army, I think.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/04 22:36:55

Post by: Theophony

@josh, I think they fit well, just wish the swords had more curve to them, right now they remind me of the old GW powered butter knives
@Nick, I noticed that as well. I don't know if I'll keep the bases for them as they will be in KOW armies, but I have a nice sand base additive I'd like to try.
@Thraxas, they should be fine once side by side on movement trays as thebases probably won't be used. RRP for the set is $60, but the box had been smoothed, no damage to the contents though.

I played with some numbers, but still undecided on which way to go with this months challenge. I think painting some of the triad in the morning will help me decide. I'll probably do the samurai just to keep knocking something down until the herd is a more cohesive idea n my noggin.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Alright Samurai, Pack up your things and go home......

This is Goritsi territory now

So after more thought......and purchases......I'll be doing my Herd army next. Temporarily to be called the pack.
todays purchases

The Skorza box has 8 wolfen in it, 6 skirmishers and 2 skorza alphas $28.00 from MM
The other two red boxes were each $5 from MM and total 5 more Wolfen (3 shadow trackers and 2 heroes). These are definitely done by the same sculptor, and at $2 a fig prepainted I think are well worth it.

the front two metal reaper figs are a were-rhino and a Giant, both were in MM new bits box for $.25 each......yes a quarter was paid for each of them .

The pack will be mostly units of werewolves/Lycans in KOW running really fast around the board and hitting like sledgehammers in the hands of a steroid fueled crack addict. There will be some units of Alkemy (forget their names, but they are basically half human half animal critters) and maybe some of my old reused GW beastmen tossed in for filler. All of these will be led by the Avatar of the Father......

the KS exclusive figure from Blood rage who stands as tall as the larger Goritsi shieldbreaker (2 times the height of a regular human soldier)

still waiting on the second half of my Black Plague kickstarter to ship which will contain 21 undead werewolves which can be fielded as a Stampede or Herd of animals in the Herd army.

off to assembly now.......maybe more soon.

Edit: Soon happens

The pack assembled

Avatar of the father
Lycan Alpha
6 regiments (or hordes if i do the 50% rule) of Lycans 1435or 1945 respectively without any magics or upgrades.

SO I've got a big box of those prepainted Wolfen in my closet too that were going to be a Herd army as well Really like the selection of minis you've pulled together beyond just the Confrontation clearance wolves, including that gorgeous Fenrir pup. And that Shieldbreaker is up there with my favorite werewolf minis ever, brutal but weaponized and with a touch of armor / machine power.

Keep us posted how the prepaints repaint, one of the reasons I haven't forged ahead with my own wolf army. That and not wanting to deal with rubbery mold lines

Haha nice. I'm glad I was away for a few days/weeks (how long has it been, time..meaningless...derp) because I am not fooled by your sudden reversal!

Cool werewolf/beastman army idea The samurai will be cool someday too, I'm sure.

I just told MM to release all of my held orders and have deleted my shortcuts to them (because it isn't 2 seconds away typing/searching it ) so i can stop freaking spending too much money there. I can't imagine if I had to not only live that close AND pass it to/from work.

@ Boss Salvage, Thanks, I didn't prime the prepaints, some of the character figs look decent enough, especially right now to leave alone while I paint the other models, but I'll keep you posted when I do toss paint on them
@Grimdoek, Welcome back, was about to send the search party out for you, especially since Dave and Vik have reared their heads again, but then they keep hiding too so I have to sent the troops to keep tabs on them.

MM is such an enabler to me , I need help with avoiding their evil grip on me . I actually do leave things on the shelf when I go their.
Here are some of the things that were on the shelf that I passed up even though I did pick them up and walk around with them for a few moments.
(5-6) aliens Versus Predator boardgames at 1/2 off (I bought one a few weeks ago, but they have a stack of them each time I go in.
2 bones weresharks for $3 each (they are huge, but would fit into the beast/werecreature army this is turning into
dozens of MSP paints to bulk out my paint collection, I've picked up a couple but I had about 6 blues in my hands the other morning but then bought the starter set for WOK
A troll blood monster of some kind that was $10 because the box was ripped open, he could fit my magma men army if painted up all lava-ish
Bunched of Dark Age mini's, the style is intriguing but I find it easy to set them back down.
oh and this week they dropped a box each of Wargamesfactory's Skeletons $5, male survivors$10, Female survivors$10, Zombie Vixens $10 and one of the historicals too $10
A Pike and shot army box for $30, 48 28mm plastic conquistidor style figs
5-6 more of the WOK starters (I might snag another)$30
and 2 WOK Felhammer boxes 8 figs for 17.50 each
All in all I think I've done well to not go crazy , but I need a third job......

Anyway I had only a little time yesterday after assembly and priming to do anything so no paint, but I did cut a couple bases out of really thick cardstock and I wanted opinions. The bases are set for Large Infantry size for suppossedly 6 models. I can actually fit 6 on the base (for most of these guy, but the Alphas are too big to fit 6, they just look too cramped at that size. So do you guys think 4 per base (which is what Mantic suggests as a minimum) or 3 per base?

or

Also thinking of getting the second box of the starter set to bulk out the army, would definitely need more If I wind up going 4 per base. If I do go that route then I think the second shield breaker will get the weapon removed and try to mount some sort of cannon thing on it like what Ramos has done on the Pig guys in his thread. That way this model can be fielded as a Lycan Alpha with the Beast slayer weapon and the one I convert can be a Lycan Alpha with the Boomstick.

I'd say go with four, looks much more healthy for a horde. Seeing these wolves on a unit base makes me wonder how I was going to stuff six per horde

What size are those bases-- 40mm or 50mm? Either way, more is better than fewer, I think.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/06 20:11:09

Post by: Nick Ellingworth

Definitely looks better with 4 rather than 3. Though given the size of the minis I completely understand going with 3.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/06 23:03:19

Post by: Theophony

@josh, bases are 40mm
@nick, 4 looks fuller, but is it too tight for such big guys to move?
@Boss, yea 4 is a lot more reasonable than 6, they do fit but you'd have to watch facings because of arms and weapons sticking over the sides.

I base coated the avatar of the father today, but not much else to show. Hopefully I can squeeze some time out in the morning for more.

Nice werewolves

Man those WGF boxen are quite like gold. I'd say snatch them up and flog them out over eBay or Amazon even but I think I remember you saying you preferred not to do as such. Not quite worth the 2 hour drive for me to pick them up since I have a box of each but someone somewhere is missing out

The wereshark isn't bad. Mine leans pretty hard to the side but for $3 that's a steal too.

I think you should go for 4 wulfen per large infantry horde. I believe to be a legal multibase per the rulebook you need to have at least 1 model over the next smallest unit size (so a regiment of infantry has to have at least 11 so you know it can't be a troop and so on), so you'll be covering your legality issues and I think being a bit denser like that looks better anyway.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/07 05:06:29

Post by: Theophony

Yea I'm not a big fan of price gougers online, but even selling it a little more than what I paid for it wouldn't really cover the time and shipping cost, so I'll leave them for someone to pick up.

( think four is definitely going to be the route I go with the units. It means I'll HAVE to but more figs though

But I also almost forgot this guy was in the second wave of minis coming from black plague.

So that's one more model to use in the horde. I also forgot the stretch goals unlocked 3 more zombie wolves and another Zombie wolf abombination, so thats a total of 26 zombie wolves to field with this horde. Hopefully we get an update on the shipping times soon.

Plus CMON open day is today (friday-this sunday) and they have 20 new games coming , but most excited about the Massive Darkness game and possibly Chronicles of Hate which will both be unloading tons of awesome minis on us.

@Shaso, thanks, hopefully my painting will make them look good.
@Aov, yea I can't wait for him to show up. Almost bought a copy of Wolfburg from MM just so I could have my zombie wolves already

Well I think I forgot to mention this week that we had a "mission days" celebration at our hospital network. They get all the employees together over one week at about 10 different showings with a motivational speaker and put on a really great show with employees doing songs and sketches and the upper management making presentations. It's done at one of the universities in town here which is somewhat central to all the St. Louis hospitals in our chain. While sitting and waiting for it to begin my wife texted me "Hey isn't tonight your commencement?" ......... I wasn't wanting to go anyways, but it was funny that I was sitting in a university theatre while I should have Ben wAlking across a stage at my university to get my sheepskin and shake my Deans hand . Oh well the most important thing is that I have graduated....at the ripe age of 41 with my B.S. Degree(take the BS for whatever it stands for). During the bus ride back to the hospital someone asked if we knew anyone graduating soon.....I said I just graduated 35 minutes ago, and totally forgot about it .

for all you young'uns out there, get your degree early, plenty of time to paint and game later....unless you get married and have kids

Hey, congratulations on your graduation! 41 isn't that old really, and you got all that life experience on the way there.

I'm looking forward to seeing your herd army. Will you be cranking it out in a month, like the lava ogres?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/07 21:03:40

The herd army probably won't be done in a month, it's already a week in and I've only got models primed and a basecoat on one. I've got too much happening this month, but I'd like to get a good chunk done. Plus I'll need a few more models, but I'm thinking more old confrontation for those.

As for life experience I've been working full time since I turned 8 years old. Family business and all, so 33 years of experience, but I've physically paid for it, now I've got to get some interviews done and find a better job quick to pay these student loans off.

Well this will be the last purchase of any type for some time. Probably should not have bought it, but the deal was too good and it completes what I need for the Herd army.

8 more wolfen prepaints $12
Box of Fel Hammers (8models, 6 will be used in the herd army) $17.50

The Fel Hammers look like some sort of dog/monkey human hybrid, so I think they will fit into the army. As for the Army I think I'll steal a cliche name "NWO" for the army New Were- Order as I'm going to try for all sorts of were-critters in the army with the biggest portion being the Wolfen.

Some nice minis.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/05/09 18:42:56

I've assembled the Fel Hammers, they are much smaller than I thought, still slightly larger than man sized, so they will more than likely just be added to the tribals to bulk out those units. while just taller than humans they are about twice the width of a human barbarian figure. I'll try and post pics tomorrow of what they look like.

@AOV, the buying freeze has more to do with actual finances and not a self imposed one. I've been looking for a new job for a little while, but I need to find one in earnest soon. Student loans are a . I've had feelers out there and some interviews, but the positions I want haven't popped up and the offers I have aren't good enough for me to quit what I've got.

Left to right: Alkemy (forget their name, but this is a wolf/man, WOK Skorza, WOK Fel Hammer, FW space Marine, WOK Skorza Alpha, and WOK Shieldbreaker

The WOK Skorza is the same height as the Confrontation wolfen, this Skorza is a female so she is more slender than the confrontation wolfen, but otherwise fits the look just the same.

Absolutely no progress here.....

Wife had car repairs $1500
My car decided it doesn't like it's old transmission $$$$$ still waiting for repairs as that happened last night and this morning.

So I spent this morning calling for a rental car......hail storm hit st. louis last night, so all car rental places are without cars....5 hours and I might have a rental tomorrow, but no promises.

Phone interview in a few minutes, not a very promising job, but still in the hospital and better hours, but I don't think that theres a raise with it. It might be worth it to my wife though so she can not be stuck with the kids all day by herself. Anyway it would be a good change of pace and all the insurance stuff would stay the same. At least it could tide me over till I find something else and get me away from my current bosses.

I might get time tonight to paint, but I'm so wiped out that sleep is a real priority.

Fingers x'd for you buddy! Happy wife= happy life lol. I'm starting to think electric vehicles are more and more enticing. When you think about the amount of parts you have to change for a petrol/diesel it really is an eye opener.

Lycan army is looking pretty neat too

Thanks guys,

@AOV, I'm not a big electric vehicle fan, I like the feel of hitting the gas and the kick you get from it.
@TP^DC, Interview went really well yesterday, only problem is it's not enough money to switch and be stuck in that position for at least 6 months. She said she was really impressed with my answers and is forwarding my resume up the line as she believes that I would make a great partner in the supply chain side where she is instead of an underling. Here's hoping I'm more Gru status than minion material.....though I do like bananas

Did a little painting today, but my silver is all gone bad so i'll just toss down leadbelcher/boltgun metal right now.
here is the avatar of the father of course now I can see the mold line on the leg .
url=http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/799724-Avatar.html][/url]
Also still unsure about the basing that I'll do with these guys. I want to do a different theme than the standard wolves and snow approach, so I'm thinking of doing a more grassy plains concept, I'll test one of the smaller figs first to see how that goes.
Also got a female Goritsi done, except for the weapons as I want silver again. I think I'm going to break as many of the common stereo types with these as I can.

[

These guys will hold silver in the highest esteem, using it for their weapons, armor and decoration. They'll see it as the tears of the moon, which they hold in the highest of regards. The Avatar of the Father is fully wolf now, while the rest of the clan is all half wolf and the tribals will be only be newly inducted members of the clans who are were creatures (wolves, crows, apes, rhinos and just about every other critter I can find).

Well after ordeals yesterday and this morning I have a rental car for the week. A Mitsubishi Mirage. Surprisingly it has more leg room than my SUV does, but it takes getting used to to climb out of it as it rides so low, plus i haven't run it on a highway yet, so i'll see what the get up and go is like.

@Nick, thanks, I don't like the collar on its head or the weapons either on this sculpt, plus all the leather bondage looking clothes on a furry really make me concerned about the line .

Well got to work but all sorts of lights on the rental car were lite up and I've got a call into them about it.

Have you thought about grassy plain with snow on it? I'm going to do it for an army, just don't know which!

PS Nick commented on the sculpt above, not me, not sure he's bothered, but credit where credit's due
PPS Sorry job wasn't a straight-forward "Welcome aboard!" Situation. Sounds promising though even if there'll be no bananas

The Lycan army looks great so far, and will look awesome once it gets the paint on. I've been planning to do something similar using my prepaints. I'm still disappointed in the RC for not adding some additional Werewolf unit types. The suggestion repeated by the Mantic playtest fanbois was to use magic items to distinguish units that dual wield/have spears/etc. With no mind to the fact that Magic items are unique and can only be picked once per army and that people might want to run more than one unit of spears, or duel wielders, or so forth. I guess I'll have to run an illegal army when I finally build mine in order to have some distinction between the units. (With Undead-Lycan allies, for a bit more variety.)

@Azazelx, You are correct sir

well as pointed out he is a big boy

Fenrir, FW space marine who's axe just snapped , and Goritsi Wolfen minis, the one in the back is the next on the painting block.

Sorry guys, life happens, good thing I got stuff done in April. May is just terrible so far. Cars are working, wife is done with school as of this Monday, kids finish tomorrow and the search for better employment continues .

Since the kids are old enough to keep themselves occupied this summer and they will have camps at school to go to we picked them up phones yesterday. Since we are an Ifamily, and att was having a buy one get one on the iPhone 6S with new lines we upgraded my phone (4years old) and all three got the new shiney as well. Also got a new iPad to replace our busted old one, gotta say I'm loving that as I hated taking pics with my old phone, uploading them to the gallery and then going to our chrome book to dakkadakka stuff. Plus having autocorrect is generally a blessing .

The wolves are howling for an update, but no time soon for me to toss paint as I have to try and get the lawn mower running again .

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Thanks to all the veterans out there who have given their lives, bodies and time in service to our country.

Well May.

I've gotten 4.......4 models done

But on the good side, if there's not an hospital trip today for either of my parents that will be the first time since June of last year that we've gone a whole month without an overnight stay .

Also we cleaned out the fridge yesterday because of some food had gone bad and then the fridge stopped working last night while I was at work. When I got home I messed with it but was certain we'd be buying a new one today. It did reset at 1 am, so now we just need to pitch most of the food and shop today instead of buying a new fridge.

Well I was on a grocery/ redbox run and stopped in the dollar general store to just look around. I found a shelf of cheap pull back cars for $5 each. So I decided to grab one to see if it would match up to my zombicide figures or 28 mm guys. Let me know what you think.

Oh and working doors.

I know she looks short, but her knees are bent and her back is arched, Bear looks big, but he is supposed to look large and in charge. I really liked a vow van they had with opening doors(just the front 2), and almost grabbed that as well.

Anyway I'm starting on more zombies , I think I've decided to change the berserker zombies I had done (only 3 I think). I'll give it a shot tonight, pics later hopefully.

Hey Theo, as a former Nuclear Vet I thank you for the kind words.

That Merceds style van looks great with the zombies, and the werewolves are coming along nicely!

speaking of such, I have a couple of MM minis on the way. the USAriadne Marine devil-dog set and the Mantic rebs feline looking scout/sgt Eddak P'Mera.

Post by: Theophony

@Shaso, no, thank you for your service and sacrifice (we need an orky saluting emoticon). Oh and the Thundercats want a word with Mantic with that name
@Azazelx, they had quite a few sport cars as well, but I figured a gaming table suited the cargo van better, the next will be the VW van, both good for moving survivor camps around and the occasional heist
@oldraven, it's actually endorsed by ford and has a QR code underneath it on a sticker, I haven't tried it, but might mess with it later today.

Well I spent a half hour trying to organize my painting and modeling area in the basement today. If you recall we had water damage and then I gave up most of my shelving/table supports to reorganizing the storage areas in the basement. So much stuff just got tossed anywhere and I haven't had the heart to even sit at the desk for any length of time. Well earlier this week I was at Home Depot and I saw a clearance storage shelf for my pegboard wall and I grabbed it, just installed it today and began clearing the deck. I've got an itch to scratch (build) , so the little time I had got put to use.

New shelf with 6 drawer pull out organizers, already filling up with wooden craft sticks, magnets and beaded chains and bottle tops and bits. The bottles on top are the canisters from Walgreens chocolate covered nuts that my wife and I love which make good storage tubs. Already have those filled from a couple years ago with coarse and medium basing gravel, grass flock, MODcubes and such.

The drawer seperators probably will get repurposed as scifi or urban highway noise barriers

Last but not least is the van parked in front of my Dust Tactics commercial roll up garage door I made last year with some A.S.S.H.O.L.E.s(Angry Servo Skull Hostile Organic Life-form Eliminators ), Dreamforge troopers, a trash dumpster made from a pill organizer (idea by Grimdork), emperors scythes marine, some MODcubes stacked up and a troll from Blood Rage. All for size comparisons.

Last night I threw some necrotic flesh on some zombicide figs and started painting orange jumpsuits. Berserker zombies inbound .

Full day and night ahead of me, this week is jammed with church activities including a summer vacation bible study for kids, so I'll squeeze in what I can.

So just a bit of progress,

All but 3 were primed last we saw them. Still need hair colored, body plates will be the same as the zombie skin tone, I might hit it with another wash later, but a separate color was not working for me. Have not decided on uniforms for the guards. Originally thinking blue, but then thought I might go with the colors I did on (not-Rick) Phil.

Oh and another supply drop. I went back to Dollar General after finding a $2 off of $10 or more purchase coupon on their website . They also have a $5 off of $25, but I think this will be enough cars for now.....but they did also have a silver H3 hummer and another cargo van...and a convertible.....and a not-bumble bee Camero......and some other sports cars

Airport taxi van (they also had two yellow taxis) and a white escalade(no spinners on the rims though )

Well not much happening today. Worked at church for a couple hours, now waiting for kids to get up and go to the pool for a bit. Will probably need a nap before work tonight. Tomorrow might see some productivity, but honestly between work and VBS at church this week I am worn like an old sweater in Mr. Rogers closet .

Oh and just in case anyone has missed it, a new Kickstarter begins at 3pm eastern standard time today.
http://www.massivedarkness.com
It's a new one by CMoN (makers of zombicide, Blood Rage and the Others), and looks like a quick and dirty dungeon crawl which will undoubtably come in the KS with a ton of minis. Zombicide Black Plague hit the sweet spot of 200 figs for $150, and some of those are huge honking monsters. They have shown some of the main enemy critters including a 6 armed medusa like snake woman, demon, troll and much more.

contents

75 miniatures -
275 cards
100 card tokens
12 custom dice
9 double sided game tiles
6 class sheet pads
6 hero dashboards (plastic versions shown)
6 coloured bases for the heroes

I'm not doing many Kickstarters at all anymore. In fact I'm pretty much done and dusted with them now with very few exceptions. But given that my group played Zombicide for over a year straight, and this also looks to be fully-co-op and has the Guillotine Games/CMON rules/production legacy, along with Zombicide Black Plague comparability in some form and it's a no-brainer for me.

So my vacation is turning out far less productive than I wanted

Took kids to the pool yesterday, then to visit relatives, borrow a pressure washer and find out we don't have enough pressure going to the power washer for it to run smoothly hour wasted. 100degree weather wiped me out, but I still made dinner then family movie night and I was asleep before the kids .

Woke up early just to get some ZBP figs primed (82 figs primed at one time), the NPC1+2 boxes(each have 20) plus the whole box from Wulfsburg and the freebie extra wolves and wolfbomb along with extra NPC figs from the Knight level pledge (NPC is Notoriously Plagued Characters). The NPC figs are 4 identical figs of zombified Snow White, headless(and horseless) horseman, priest in full papal regalia, dwarf in armor, bard, jester, elf noble and others. In game if you kill off 5 of these types of zombies you get a special prize card (cooler weapon including the boomstaff/army of darkness boomstick ).

They are primed and drying now, but church looms ahead of me and then we had agreed to paint our front door today and see if we can't get the power washer working. Definitely hoping for some free time this week to paint and get the gaming area back to functional levels.

We shall prevail
SO SAY WE ALL!!!

Part of the priming was the addition to the herd army(now not ALL werewolves all the time), now with undead wolves, the children of the moon who didn't survive the transformation from human to werewolf, or wolf to werewolf.

Now with rotting fleshy parts , also ratbombination and some NPCs that have gotten a bit dead. And they ain't getting better .

Picked up 2 new brushes and the ring green ink , it's the darker biel-tan shade instead of way watcher green.

Back from the pool now and we are going to play some Black Plague.

@josh, he is finished now, back a page
@Grimdork, wait you DID back, or did you leave off the not?

Well I got them all primed now and started sorting the models this morning. I decided to lay out all the hero cards with the models.
That's the Knights pledge level with 1extra box of heroes (4 models). Can't say the game is lacking options

The most important 6 heroes with my scratch built giant wooden bunny and the not so little not-killer Ratbite of Caerbannog

Though this time "Chauncey" bravely ran away and I was about to have an aneurism when I couldn't find him. He turned up in the painting box, guess he was telling me something.

Then decided to paint what should be the easiest model to paint. The Ablobination.

Given its size I think I'll nickname home the Not So Great Unclean One

The abominarat and abominalpha (the one that looks like a wrath of kings figure) were both Kickstarter exclusives, I almost did a double pledge just for a second abominarat. The other three: Ablobination, abominotaur, and the Abominitroll come together in a separate box for $30 retail.

Campaign size comparison chart . Bar wentch comes in the core box. The sculpts are soooooooo much better than the ones for Massive Darkness in my book.

Now I will be spending endless hours trying to figure out an army list for them all

Wiped out. Mowed the lawn this morning, worked at church, had Chinese buffet with my son (I ate way too much), did shopping for a picnic tonight all in 90+ degree weather with high humidity feeling like 100+. The picnic is at Forest Park here in St. Louis (think Central Park but larger and much fewer muggings ) where they are doing an outdoor festival and performing Shakespeare's a mid summers night dream.

Need to rest up for this one. Stupid culture .

Had the idea of doing heroic party regiments for awhile, something like 4-7 hero minis replacing a 20 person block of infantry.

Fighters in front, cleric behind to hold them up, rogues and the like flanking , and potentially wizards raised above in the back representing the units ranged capacity.

Truly epic heroes can still take up hero and monster slots of course, and you can also use warmachine slots for wizards too. If there are supposed to be crew use them as low level bodyguards.

Thanks Cam
Grimdork, I'll have to research more Tonight about that army.

Well had an hour today to paint.

Abominotaur with his Ablobination buddy. Thought I had messed up the Minotaur, I had forgotten to use the green shade wash before hitting him with the deep tone flesh wash. He looked good, but not my favorite green looking zombie tone, so he got the wash afterwards. I think he turned out well regardless.

@Aov, thanks, the abominotaur comes with the Ablobination and the Abominitroll, but luckily enough all those would work on n a chaos army as well.

Well the car is packed and we are off for vacation hours in the car with my wife and kids I love them but close quarters and an early morning wake up make for a fun start and finish to a vacation.

ZBP is going with us, but my paints are staying behind. My brother in law and his family are coming so we will get a game or two in this weekend when we have had enough outside time by the lake. I'll try and snag pictures.

Frostgrave isn't available free from anywhere I'd recommend. Although it is £15 for the basic rulebook so it won't exactly break the bank and it is also totally model agnostic as well.

Have a great break Theo and family, pics will be great.

I complain about journeys with the family also, and I complain about technology ruining my children, but this is the one occasion I love the modern world, each kid gets a tablet full of their moves and games and they are entertained for hours, you could load one up with "night of the living dead" get the kids in the mood for Zombicide fun!

Seriously though, really wishing you a great vacation, see you when you get back bud.

@Everyone, thanks for the well wishes on the vacation. We just arrived back home safe and sound. There was lots of crying and whining, but my kids forgave me for doing it . No driving off cliffs or stops at amusement parks, but we did see a dam and a fish hatchery and swam in a lake for a while. While we did go to Branson, MO we did not go to any of the overpriced attractions yet still had lots of fun. We also got in 3 long games of zombicide Black Plague, mainly using Monty Python figs . I hope season two has an AbomiNItion knight or Black Abomiknight or even a French abomitaunter .

All is unpacked now and I painted for about an hour, Abominitroll is almost completed and will be shown later.

Surviving Zombicide is kind of the goal , but surviving the vacation was also the goal.

Well back from vacation and from working at church this morning. I decided to start thinking of the kingdom of men army that Grimdork suggested. There might be 50+ survivors from Zombicide, but not all of them fit the KOW human empire scheme, so how do I supplement what I want to build.....This sent me into a Blood Rage ( ) which reminded me I have all these Blood Rage figures that need painting and a home. I could use them for their game, but since I don't ever leave anything alone......

I was in on the kickstarter so I got the 6th player expansion and the 5th player expansion and the wizards too. So all together I have 6 groups of figs each with 11 models in it (2 wizards, a standard bearer, and 4 each of two sculpts of fighters). I could leave them by individual clans and find some survivors to help fill in the ranks, or mix them all up to help blend the whole army and disperse the duplicates. I think the second route would look better visually across the board, but the mix of weaponry might make it more challenging to decide what is what.

The other obstacle is the fact that I don't have any mounted knights besides the ones from Battlemasters to fill the ranks of cavalry. I guess they will have to do......or I use my Monty Python figures for those and create a base for them as mounted knights. Too bad we don't have squires with coconuts .

Oh well. Now to calculate an army....

Well it might be a while before I even tackle that army. I took a quick look at the armybuilder app for KOW and then decided to paint.....

The Abominatroll that I painted yesterday but was too worn out to photograph.

Sorry for the flowery napkin usage, but I think the pictures turned out better than shooting the pics on the wood grain of the desk. Plus it looks like the evil zombie troll is afraid of the flowers I think he will make a nice general for my dungeon saga zombie trolls . I forgot to use the green ink wash on him, but I like the color variation between him and the other abominations I have done, so I think he will be spared the rod so to speak.

Today I tossed the rotting flesh color on 42 zombies. so there are plenty that need detail work to finish them off. No pics of this as it's not even at a basic stage yet. Hoping to get a slew done before the end of the month and the end of this 6 month painting blitz that Azazelx has set up. I'm already enrolled for the next 6 months with what else.....zombies

Also also.....I am testing a color mix for my next not KOW army. It'll possibly get me back to my gaming roots. I got the inspiration from someone else here on dakka with the colors and I have always wanted to do this super secret plan...... stay tuned.

So was the Dun Dun Dun supposed to mean green giant? Or the mystery?

Well I finished the flesh tones this morning on the zombies, so here's the task at hand for zombies....

Edit: got some painting done today. Only a couple hours total including the flesh tones on those 42 zombies. I wanted to try some of the notorious plagued characters and the last basic abomination.

And a close up of devito and Schwarzenegger.

And this guy seems to have lost his head over the belly dancer.

Also on a sad note, just found out our pastor has decided to step down. He has taken an offer in Texas to be a youth/assistant pastor. Good for him, but not so great for us .

@EDC, Thanks, the beefcake guy is supposedly a giant . The other three cross his path and they tussle a bit and one chops his hand off. One of the others decides to have mercy on him and enlists him in their fight, so they re-arm him and go and fight evil. Jovem Nerd is the artist of the comic series these guys are from and they are good friends of the Zombicide creator. So good in fact that they are developing a game through GG based on the comic and I believe it will kickstart this year.

Zombicide is definitely worth the investment. But I suggest getting season 1 or Black Plague to start with as the core rules are better in my opinion than the expansion rules from season 2 or 3.

So your saying there is a Methodist to the Madness (flipping a phrase, not criticizing in any way). Pastor Gary has been at the church for 9 years and he and his wife were one of the main reasons we started to attend this church. Very open people, really welcoming and they are just a year or two older than my wife and I. Talking to the assistant pastor last night he said that they will try and get an interim pastor from the IFCA to cover while they look for a new pastor, it should only take 9-12 months . A little scary as we were talking to another parishioner who mentioned that when a pastor leaves a church there's usually a large number of the congregation that just drops off. Seems people feel that they have no one holding them accountable when he leaves.

Not sure what models will be next out of the ZBP group. I have a few options.
1. Zombies
2. Heroes from the wolfburg expansion or hero box 1
3. Artist Pack heroes
4. Some of the exclusive heroes
5. Or randomly grab heroes who are in full armor to go with these guys into a KOW human shieldwall unit.

It's definitely worthwhile, keep an eye open for it, if you were here in the states I'd suggest Walmart or targets online stores as they are the cheapest I've seen, but Grimdork has sworn by Amazon before.
Red Harvest wrote:Theo, It looks like you've definitely improved your painting skills. Everything looks really good.

thanks, that means a lot, especially coming from you.
ckig wrote:Lovely work there Theo. Makes me want to paint mine up now.

Well fairs fair as your the one getting me to WANT to paint my space marines with Crimson Fist colors.....cats out of the bag now .

As I mentioned a little while back I saw a project being worked on that was getting me itching to paint marines again....I've held out for now, but I did grab the blue color that I saw Ckig use on his excellent Crimson Fist figure and had to try it on something. But the only thing close at hand were zombies....and a Chinese temple dog from arcane legions. So the dog got it.

I just wanted to see if the colors worked well together in real life to me or if it's one of those many unicorn colors that look great on other peoples models. I think it looks good, but there's too many zombies to paint right now for me to get back into marines, but you never know when a small tactical squad might appear to cleanse a world of the taint of unbelief.

Thanks, I think I was using the army painter dark tone with sealer as a crutch. It makes nice figs, but it doesn't make NICE figs. If I had it all to do again I'd do it without the sealer. I should try a good matte sealer spray.

Thraxas Of Turai wrote:Plenty of progress here Theo. I really like your armour, is it just a base metal colour and dip? I would look for the recipe but 190 pages is a bit daunting

Thanks Thraxas, most of it is just lead belcher then the dark tone from army painter and then lead belcher highlights. If the armor is brighter then it's the same method just replacing the lead belcher with Boltgun metal both times.

I have an idea for a terrain piece I don't want to commit too as it would require massive amounts of digging to find all my bits......er......yeah that just came out wrong. To find the pieces needed to make the terrain. But the idea had me awake for over an hour last night and I was supper tired too. It's one of those concepts that will happen eventually.
