By all accounts MA is like a simpler, faster version of Deadzone, so if you tend to play with board gamers rather than wargamers it might well work well there.

$25 seems like one hell of a steal, just for the terrain even. I wish the UK had a Miniature market equivalent. The three sets gives you some pretty cool U.S military figures, a Martian army and a block or two worth of red brick terrain.

The pile grows!

Mars Attacks is hilarious and fun Welcome to the fold.

I'm pretty sure I don't need any more models to paint, and I was tempted sorely. Let me know if you find a way to differentiate the survivors between sets, part of what held me back.

@para, well I gave up on Deadzone as the figures didn't strike a chord with me and my main opponent had no desire for the game.
@thraxas, I'm thinking of a modified Zombicide.....martiancide, or humancide and you play Martians. Or a KOW Martian army using ogre rules, they might be small, but they have death lasers.
@grimdork, I don't know if they will be to different, they'll keep all the equipment the same, but I think I'll just play around with skin tones between the sets.

Well I picked up the three sets today, got a strange look from the guy behind the counter, oh well.

The figs are decent enough (My new Mantic slogan), the terrain is great, and I must admit to watching Mars attack clips today and going around saying "ack Ack acK aCK". The figs have been poster tacked to boxes for eventual priming, hopefully this week.

Kids are off school tomorrow due to local elections, so they Wil head to church with me and be bored for hours. A fathers work is never done.

Received my Kings of War Pledge today....the third shipment (supposedly). First one never arrived, Rich emailed me and posted in the comments section that he shipped it out on the 23rd of October, never to be seen, yet the set that Steve sent me has shown up. Yes I called Rich a liar on the comments section, that's how done with Mantic's Antics I am. The books have bent corners, but I'm just glad to be done with it. Hopefully the Dungeon Saga box set gets here without an issue. I just went with the basic pledge on that as well. These counters and tokens are sad little things, I see they are going all out in an attempt to make their game look great. My Renaldo looks good, bent feather in the hat, but easily fixable. Did all of them come with no tab or anything to help secure him to a base? Wound tracker things look decent, But I'll probably use something else to keep track of my units. I have a little time before work, so I'll be looking over the book more in detail, I think my terra cotta (not elves) will get a full list tonight after work.

You must have millions of models kicking around even with your amazing paintathon on the zombies, still, I also wish we had a MM here, as coming by stuff is hard going, so much out there that catches the eye....

Got to say though the Mars Attacks stuff does have a really nice look about it, the terrain is so universally usable I think.

Quick savings alert

Only a couple hours left but my wife bought me a copy of Zombicide prison outbreak.(first gaming item she has bought me in out 15+ years of marriage and dating) we were looking for kids Christmas items on Target.com and they have a promo running till midnight tonight of 30% off of any one game item (promo code "BESTGIFT") and then 10% off if it's on your target gift list and then 5% off with your target credit card. So I wound up getting it with tax right around $43.75 with it shipping to the store. Normally $99.99 from CMON, $69.99 from miniaturemarket and normally $61.99 from target.com. They have the main set and toxic city mall as well.

Sorry for the late notice, but just got that done and a family meeting about mom was right afterwards. It won't get unwrapped until Christmas, but I e got enough between then and now to deal with.

Houston we may have a problem

Not my christmas present opened early, bur a trade i made with my brother in law. He and his family were not getting the fun out of Rue Morgue that we were out of season 1, so he gave it to me

now I'll have to find time, some more primer and an urge to kill......last one isn't too hard to come by.

12 new survivors, 12 zombivors, and a bunch of crazy zombies and crawlers.

Nice!

Anyone care to share your experiences with Zombicide? I'm looking at picking it up for my gaming group (who are mostly boardgamers), probably just the core set.

@para, it's a blast of a game. Start with season 1, and you should be good. My brother in law went with season 3 which he didn't find as much fun. They have the missions in order of 00 as the primer to 10 as the end, but we generally just throw down the tiles and make our own scenario.

Well we got to play a couple games of Rue Mogue the other day as my kids got out of school early due to a down power line and the school being blacked out. Not as much fun as the first season, I think it's more complicated just for the sake of being different. I think if they redid the first season again with the same survivors but went with new zombies everyone would rebut it for new sculpts. I know I would. I bought some new primer last night as my old primer gummed up the Mars attack stuff. It's a project for later now as I'll have to pick up some more simple green. There's 92 models in this set, so hopefully I can get back on track to my painting.

Well it's time for a year end push.

The last two months have been a killer for gaming/hobby time. Mom in the hospital, finals, and then I got hurt at work a month ago today, still on light duty and trying to go up and down the steps at home to get to the painting area sucks so much I just skip it. But mom is home now, finals are done, I get my bachelors degree in a couple weeks and I'm moving better. So with a month left in the year it's time to bust out some more figures. Enter Zombicide Rue Morgue that my brother in law gave me a few weeks ago. They were primed, now this morning I got my bug up my rear and started tossing paint.

Thats 80 zombies with basic green skin done in about an hour and change.

And that's with the 80 getting their green wash. Took less than an hour. Now clothes are going to take up time, but I have to work some at church this morning, so see you all later.

Thanks everyone , While I was at it i grabbed the remaining 14 zombies I had downstairs that already had their skins done, but need their clothes done still, and three companions that are part way done and there's still the 12 survivors from this set that I have now just finished the base skins on. Bear will be done later today, most of the clothes are done, just boots and the wraps on his hands to finish up.

I went by Miniaturemarket today, no buying though . I did almost buy a second Rue Morgue set last week, and I was tempted y some zombicide prison outbreak tiles that were half off today, as well as a great deal on some Alkemy miniatures which I might still snag since I always want to build a fantasy oriental army. I have looked at the Varangur list and think I can make a suitable evil Samurai force from it.

Okay, so I caved....and bought another sedition wars box , Figured for $18.00 I got more figures to eventually use as troops for possibly in Warpath, but really it was for the bases....and the dice will be used for Zobicide like the other sets have been procured for Zombicide. I think this is my 6th box of Sedition wars. I will have a vast Plague/techno virus faction for Warpath.

Also in the Acquisition news I received my box of Dungeon Saga: Dwarf Kings Quest. My son just helped me open it all up, it looks in decent order, but I thought I was suppossed to get a dragon, but I could be wrong about that, all I ordered was the base game after all. It will get the treatment after Zombicide, and will probably be the new year kick off painting set, unless I don't finish Rue Morgue Quickly and don't also get a jump on the Prison set that Santa has upstairs for me .

I did get some models painted last night and this morning, they don't look great to me, but then again I haven't tossed the miracle deeptone on them yet. First off is Louise, she had really soft details on her face.

And then there's Jane the gunslinger

Dan the Fireman

And Big Bear (That song from supertroopers is in my head now

and the last one I finished was James, for when things go sideways

I started on Joe, but not showing pics of him yet. His face just is screaming for me to paint him up like Heisenberg from Breaking Bad (They did make a Heisenberg special kickstarter exclusive figure, but I'm not going down that dark corridor and spending $50.00 or more on him)

Good stuff!

Did you order the 100 dollar set or that and some add-ons? The dragon, orcs, abyssals were all separate expansions. Ordering all three with the main box was what carton B was known as. I guess they finished dispatching Carton A (sounds like what you got if no dragon) and Carton B (me, sigh) are still going out. Let us know how you find everything, I'll be digging into it soon hopefully.

6 sedition wars... that's a lot of restic mold lines to clean!

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/12/02 02:53:12

Post by: Theophony

Honestly I didn't find too many bad mold lines. Most of the models I got went together really well. The bad models I had were a couple of the sentry guns and the big alligator type monster where it was too thick to hot water fix them, but I was able to fill the gaps with glue/green stuff.

Yeah I only got the carton A, good enough, and I didn't want to spend extra on another Mantic crap-shoot.

A couple of my smaller cardboard chits weren't cut all the way, so when I punched them out they tore a little, but not a huge loss. I'm dreading sitting down to read the books and seeing page XXX everywhere. Also now that I mention that I didn't see the correction sheet that they said would be in the boxes with "all the fixes" that others have said don't even cover half of it.

That does suck. I'd rather have gotten the book late. Was this the thing they were gonna let us order in a pledge manager for just the ship cost or something?

Well I had some time so I decided to knock out the 15 crawlers from the morgue.

They still need the deep tone wash, but I think I'm going to wait on that for a large batch 20-30 figs at one go, but might change my mind so we have these ready to use for the weekend.

Just received a email from CMON. Zombicide Black Plague shipping for THIS CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

They are shipping one set to all the backers before christmas of this year. All the stretch goals and the expansion will ship later, but the core set will be here for Santa to catch the Plague. Supposedly there are people who have received tracking numbers.

I'm excited.

It's a class act by CMON, they are making sure people have stuff for under the tree, and not charging any extra shipping for breaking the orders into two waves. I wonder if that is why there were some high shipping costs for foreign (Australian) shipping.

Could be. Surprised they got it out so fast. I guess that's probably why some people complain about companies using kickstarter as a preordering system but still, sounds pretty nice to get such rapid turnover.

I'm pretty sure that they had most of the game done before the Kickstarter began, but with how big it exploded they were looking at sitting on so many copies that ths turned out to be the best solution to keep the warehouses clear for their next project, or even just to fit this whole project into the warehouse could have been an issue. The expansion is still being completed and with soooooo many copies being made it is just a logistical nightmare. As for the preorder thing.......Mantic. Just look how they were jamming more stuff in at the last second on their kickstarter. The last few stretch goals were what $5k apart. Tell me they didn't have those planned and in motion already.

Red Harvest wrote:Theo, you paint too fast. That is all.

I wish I painted faster, but truth be told the models do most of the work. Plus I am going for just basic tabletop standard, nothing exciting here.......except Zombicide Black Plague for Christmas .

@Para and Shaso, thanks

I think I'll enjoy the fantasy setting more as well, it's why I steered clear of the contemporary setting to start, and with Monty Python survivors....well what's not to love.

Quick update, 11 more zombies down. That puts me at 31 models since busting open this set. Hopefully I can knock the rest out in short order.

Sorry for the crap photo, iPad is shot and my iPhone + kitchen table make for a bad picture.

Well.....
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/zombicide-black-plague/description

you've missed: Bob, Baeuregauard, Gilbert, and Chuancey , not to mention good and bad Troy(Ash) if your more in a evil dead mood. or even Grin and Scowl if you want a dark knight reference. Plus a bucket load of other movie characters: Braveheart, snow white and the huntsman, Dracula and even David Bowie as the goblin king. Plus all the Abominations (Abominotaur, Ablobination, Abominotroll, Abominorat, Abominalpha, wolfbomination and your basic abomination)

Most will be delivered later as they are just shipping one of each core box out to people for christmas, even the expansion sets will be later as those are one of the items that was causing the delay and might not be ready till after the chinese new year. The KS blew up so much that shear volume is causing delays, so this is a great treat that they are giving us. My CKPM is still not showing a tracking number, so its still a week or so away, but people in the comments section (from Australlia at least) have started to receive their box )

Thanks warboss, I only got 4 done today, but church, decorating, decorating grandparents house, more church stuff tonight and raking leaves, so still good.

It gets me that though you are churning them out, and producing good TTQ mini's, you still take the time to make as many as possible, individual. They all have different coloured coats and dresses etc. No samey samey here, makes a real difference when you see them as a horde.

Thanks Cam, I do my best to ensure that there were no duplicates, Zombies are people too.....Smelly, dirty, disgusting people, but people none the less...... describes lots of teenagers at the game store as well .

The only ones that have been similar are the business suit wearing zombies as they just need to look like the mindless drones that they are. Also the VIP Zombies all got painted the same. Mostly because the police all wear the same uniforms, same with sailors, and Santa has to look the same no matter what mall he is working in.

Thanks warboss , I wanted to paint some sneakers that looked kind of like my kids shoes, or one of their old pairs. Got tired of just grey, white and black.

I think a couple of the older runners I did had blue and yellow. Trying to be a little trendy without doing purple hair and tattoos everywhere . 12 more runners to go to finish the rue morgue set( of runners). Not likely to get any done today, too much with work and a women's event at church tonight to clean up after. But tomorrow is pretty wide open, hopefully no distractions will arise.

I haven't decided yet, so far we are only doing games with the regular zombies. I won't have berzerkers until Christmas as Santa has that set on his sleigh . I figured once we start mixing the sets I'll probably have to do something I never have before and .....base my models. I can do one style for regular walkers, maybe just grey with street lines painted on them. Toxic zombies from the mall might have some sort of tile floor painted on and then the prison guys can have just plain gray concrete bases. The skinners might get grass or something along those lines worked onto their bases. Either that or just solid color bases to match the sets, red for berserkers, green for toxic, black for skinners, white for basic, gold for VIPs or along those lines.

Was delivered Friday night at about 8:31pm, not that I'm being precise or anything but fedex said "by end of day". They delivered . Better yet, the wife was also wIting for a FedEx package and this arrived while she was using the bathroom and made it to the basement before she came out .

I got them all out and have them primed and drying now. With work and the holidays, I've been completely sidetracked and unable to paint, so I'll have to take some time and get my painting total figured for the year. I also primed part of my dungeon saga figures as well and they will follow Z:BP and the rest of the Christmas goodies (Rue Morgue which I got a few weeks ago), and Z: prison outbreak which is under the tree. All the stretch goals for ZBP as well as the Wolfsburg expansion will ship after Chinese New Year, but CMON did a kickass job getting this part of the pledge out on time. I should mention that they sent every backer one starter set to put under the tree for Christmas without any extra shipping charge. If they ordered multiple sets they only got 1 right now, the rest will ship with all expansions. Really nice of them, and also means that their warehouse doesn't get slammed with them from the$4million project (who knows how many were bought in the PM).

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Just finished some Zombicide playing. Tempted to place a Santa Zombie on the Tree while no one is watching.

For next year I am just lining up projects right now, and setting goals. One of those goals has been an outstanding goal that I think has been gnawing at me for a long time. I've not bought a miniature case in almost 30 years, all my models go into cardboard boxes for storage, but I have been wanting to do something for all the zombicide stuff that I have. While checking out a local military surplus store (looking to see what the size of the .50 calibre ammo cases were for possible reuse, I think I stumbled onto a wicked cool idea. I've talked about finding some sort of wooden crate to keep the Zombies in and the shop had military surplus wooden Ammunition crates fro $14.99. Some were for fragmentation grenades, some were for other ammo, but the ones that drew my attention were cases for the 105mm High explosive depleted uranium shells for howitzers. It had all that info branded into the side of some rough sawn wood with rope handles on each end. The whole case was about 1' wide, 3' across and 10" deep. Wooden lid with metal hinges and a rotating hasp lock, plus it's stackable . The inside spacing on the crate is 32"x10.25"x5" which I think will work out for the boards and stuff. Also coincidentally it will be the perfect size for the sheets of foam that I grabbed last year to line the inside. All in all I think It would be fun to show up to the local shop and walk inside carrying military cases with official writing on the side. Also It will give me a chance to try out a wood burning kit I picked up a long time ago as I might try and burn the Biohazard symbol into the side of it.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas. Full bellies, full bags of goodies, and full houses full of happy kids.

Muahaha I like this idea, let us know if it pans out I think the only thing to top it may be an Infinity case designed as a cosplay infinity gun with a barrel mag where each model has it's own custom bullet case that fits into the mag

The zombie war crate sounds excellent

while that sounds like a cool idea...probably one of the coolest...would there be a radioactive leftover still inside the cases?...

and merry Christmas to you sir...my kids would have gone ballistic with a zombie Santa in the Christmas tree for sure...my wife wouldn't have minded too...i think^^

Those are the first symptoms of turning into a zombie. Too bad the restaurant/biker bar near us that sold brain sandwiches closed down last year or I would have gotten you some to help you through your transformation. no joke as they were famous for the sandwiches for the last 40-50 years, but I think the ownership changed a few years back and it became more biker bar than nostalgic place to eat.

Well, this has been the wettest december on record here in Saint Louis. Earlier this weekend they said we received between 4-8" of rain everywhere here. That tops the spring/summer of 1993 when I was helping my cousin move all his equipment off the farm from the flood. Levees are breaking and cresting. Luckily the rain has now stopped and the temperatures have been 20 degrees fahrenheit above seasonal temps as well or we would of had feet of snow over the last week. Our basement has gotten soaked, not flooded, but must spend the morning moving the gaming table and alot of other things to extract the waters. our house is 77 years young and has not had real issues like this, but most of Saint Louis has been getting so innundated that even if you never had issues before, your having them now.

The good news is that I was wanting to change up my gaming area and painting area set up anyway, this has just made it a priority .

The UK has been getting the same sorta weather here. We've had huge volumes of rainfall in the north of England. Particularly in Cumbria and York. You can't really plan for that sorta thing though. Interestingly some genius thought it'd be a good idea to open the flood defences because they were worried about them breaking so now we have more angry folks there than usual.

Lot of rain here too (go figure, what with the *massive* distance between us ) but the house is holding up from leaks as far as we can tell. Kind of on a hill.

Hopefully your basement rescue and hobby reassignment goes well.

You hate the idea, but one of my uncles approached the IL, corps of engineers in 1993 when the flood was still rising and said to burst the levee on his property. It was the best situation for the overall outcome. Sucked for my uncle and his family, but it alleviated pressure off of all the surrounding levees and bought more time. I admire him as he wasn't going to get money off of doing it, but did it because all the surrounding levees were already showing signs of failure and he was looking out for his friends. They are expecting the levee to blow again now, my wife woke me up at 1 am to show me pictures on facebook of his property and the water at the top of the levee.

Much water removed. I think the carpet is saved, and many loads of unused "stuff for converting" has been eliminated without tears from myself. Taking a break to let the fans do some of the work in airing out the moisture, and the dehumidifier is back in use (not usually used in winter). I need to do some planning on how to arrange things better. I have a storage room that is roughly 6.5'x 16' which I have considered making my gaming/ painting cave. currently it houses my comic collection (puts most stores to shame ) and basic storage of things like unused furniture, and old kids clothes (out of season stuff). It would be a major undertaking to re-appropriate that room for my uses, but could pay off. The gaming table would still need to be out in the main area of the basement though. The other reasons why I have never taken over that area are: no natural light in there. It is completely enclosed with old cinder block walls on all four sides and only one light bulb in there to light it all up. I can easily fix that with the set up i worked already, but would just need to do a lot to get it there. Also there's the fact that it is directly under my oldest daughters room. I have enough trouble getting her to go to sleep as it is without my late night wake ups and going downstairs to watch stuff on netflix. I could always insulate it and maybe put drywall on the ceiling, but then we are starting a bigger renovation. Also space while it seems plentiful, would really be tight because of the with of the room. It would however get most of my stuff out of sight and free up space in the main area for the kids to have more play space.

Sounds to me like there is a middle ground option of using the side room as a more active supplies storage, with a work area in the main room instead.

That's looking like the best option. The one room will now house the comic collection, various totes for out of season clothes, and my old 1950s office desk/ crafting desk. Which will likely get the old household computer on it. It'll be a space for me to go and read, might even start getting the comics inventoried for sale later.

The gaming area and painting table will probably stay out in the big area.

As someone with a 50 year old house, which sits on some low ground, I can tell you that Drylok extreme is a very good friend I haven't had issues in many years. Also, regrading the land around the foundation and of course keeping the :censored: gutters clean helps. I'm thinking of replacing my 4" gutters with those ginormous 6" wide ones. Leaves catch to easily in the drain to the downspout.

The carpet, word of warning. If it was wet, it may develop problems later, so watch it, and sniff it, carefully.

All great advice Red, thanks. I've got 17 years experience from builders square, Home Depot, Lowes all with expertise in building materials and flooring, so that is all sorted. The gutters are an issue on our front porch, they have robe redone, but our foundation is Truely solid, but with the shear volume of rain we had and for the duration time nothing was going to stop the hydrostatic pressure from forcing water in.

I need people to remind me not to buy more Mantic stuff. miniaturemarket has a sale going on with their clearance right now and I'm tempted buy the Mars attack alien bundles. I survived last week by buying damaged dungeon saga boxes, but willpower is failing.

Oooh but the Martians are fun I'm borderline having too many Martians as it is though so I won't be venturing to the store

I think the ridiculous amount of rain finally caught up to me too, the roof over my gaming room (and back porch) is that flat rolled roofing or whatever, the surface treatment is getting old and it's cracked a bit. Can't find any places where water actively sits but with the volume and consistency we've had lately I guess some of it finally managed to seep through down onto the insulation and foamboard ceiling tile things. Not as bad as basement water but there were electrical wires right underneath where it was getting damp/wet so I'll have to rectify that shortly. The whole experience has reminded me just how wobbly my poor gaming table is, barely survived the move for me to put the ladder in place

Anyway....

Resist the Martians, Theo, you've got so many dungeon whatsits now!

I've resisted the martians

Stopped by Miniaturemarket.com to pick up a clearance paint set. $17 or so with discounts, it comes with a brush and 10 paints, so good deal as i needed a new brush.

I guess the demons are after me because its a demon paint set, and they had another item on the shelf for half price.

Always loved that critter in D&D.

I didn't love that model for the large amount of scales, seems like an amalgamation like demogorgon could have a few more textures thrown in... but I'm sure it would still be nice to paint.

@AoV, I was wondering about it as well, but when i picked up the box it felt substantial, so between the pic and the weight I didn't hesitate. Roughly tacked together with putty on his scenic base (which is 6" in diameter) he is just under 7" tall.
@Grimdork, I'm actually scared of painting this and messing it up. Even though it is a Chaos Demon the sculpting on it is absolutely fantastic. The musculature is amazing and the casting is near flawless. There is one small bubble on his knee spike, which isn't really visible from the front, and the right set of tentacle arms and the building pillars seem to be cast in a more rubbery resin. I figure that was planned so they could pull it out of the mold.

pic, because it happened.

his left arm is not attached because it is so heavy that the putty would not hold it in place. The zombicide black plague zombie by his foot is for scale as is the paint bottle to his left. Both should give a good idea of how large he is.

hulk in the background is an old gw paint pot higher off the ground and still looks shrimpy......and he's 3.5" tall

Demogorgon FTW! Well, not really. Can't root for the truly bad guys.... That's a GF9 min? I heard the resin they use can be brittle, so a heads up on that. No idea about how to paint it.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/12/30 22:34:52

Well I haven't seen brittle with it yet. The heads took turns popping off and hitting the table then concrete floor multiple times, and i was sure that one of their teeth were going to break, but they never did. I didn't like the green/ yellow color scheme that they did. I'll have to do some reseatch into the occult to find something else. I vaguely remember seeing a purplish and pinkish with brown fur that I thought was great.

See, when the description didn't mention a size and there was nothing in his photo for true reference, I was thinking maybe three inches tall, tops. Some of those resin D&D minis are not very big despite their large price tags.

What you've shown though? For $45? He may well have come home with me too, shoot. I also like the look of it better in your photos, their stock paint job and posing just don't do the thing justice.

The face is supposed to be a Mandrill Baboon. Demogorgon was originally a Roman God or demi-god. Gygax just took the name and made up the rest.

thanks Red, I was thinking and downloaded some pics already, I think going somewhere between the Orange version of Demogorgon and a green/ brown version of the beast.

Also was curious about all I have done this year with everyone posting their year end achievements. I didn't realize I took from christmas of last year until Jun 11th off from posting here on DakkaDakka. Well, I posted, but I was in serious funkville and not doing much of anything in the P&M section. Also Hadn't counted all the Alkemy models into my year end count, so I think I am definitely closer to 300 if not well over. My tabletop quality might be sad in comparrison to other folks stuff, but I have amazed myself looking back. Also not counted into the mix were my Angry Sevo Skull Hostile Organic Life-form Elimination Squad . I must be getting Alzheimers as I keep forgetting concepts I come up with.

New Year Resolution. I've never done one before, not seriously anyways, but I noticed a few weeks ago that I wanted to duplicate a paint scheme that I had done previously and I couldn't match it right away. So this year I will attempt to create a painting logbook that has the basics for certain models. The main ones will be things that I am intending on building this year, such as Warpath armies using the plethora of Sedition Wars models I have laying around. I think my Zombicide style painting will help knock out a horde of the strain guys in pretty short order, and I had an idea for the humans, but it was their paint scheme I just could not redo. Also thinking of numbering the bases as I complete the models so my year end count can be easier tallied . I know I completed over 200 Zombicide models easy, as documented in here, but I also did a ton of one offs while I wasn't posting and some models like 20-30 alkemy figures, the A.S.S.H.O.L.E.S. and Infinity figures as well.

Next up on the docket.....reorganizing and getting back to painting Zombies

Happy New Year everyone.

We've just had one of the hottest Decembers on record here, and it's going to be one hell of a summer. Literally. Oh gak - I've justr re-read your post as I didn't realise at first that you got flooded. Sorry to hear about that, mate.

On the other hand, that Demogorgon model is fething amazing. Damn I wish we had something even approaching Miniature Market here in Australia.

With your painting/hobby resolutions - I found that I had the same issues a couple of years ago. My solution was to add in anything special that I did in terms of paint combos or mixes into the posts where I show off the model in question - that way I always know where to find it. Similarly, I have an email that I keen replying and sending myself every year with what I've just painted, the date, and the running total. It looks like this - real simple. (Just cut & pasted it into my wordpress blog)

@Da Boss, Thanks, It is an amazing model, and also limited to 1500 copies. That's another reason I jumped on it. Not thinking that it will eventually be worth more, but the fact that there will be so few of them out there that it will be more unique.

@Azazelx, No worries here mate. THere was some water that got into our basement, but mainly due to the amount of rain in such a short time frame. We got inches of rain in just a few short hours to the point where water was backing up the drain spouts. The Mississippi is at record high in some spots and on thursday we had 4 major road/ highways/interstates shut down because the rivers had over flown or just so much water was on them that cars were stuck. I think I read last night that there were 14 deaths related to the storms here, 13 of which were from people in their vehicles (don't try to cross roads where it is flooded ). Also Happy Periphilion(spelling?) day Today we are closer to the sun than at any other time of the year Glad I'm not in Austrailia where it's summer time and the sun is shining directly on us.

Well winter break is over for the kids and wife on monday. I love them, but I need normal back. This morning we tackle the basement in earnest. One storage area will be getting completely cleared out and I will be losing my current gaming table set up to rebuild that area. I had purchased some shelving units a year ago for dirt cheap and had assembled them to form a storage rack base for my gaming table, but now they will be used for their original purpose and hopefully make finding the wifes stuff easier. Plus it is where we store her fine china sets (yes, sets). We have 4 sets of fine dinning ware, which we might pull one set out a year and use it once . We have our wedding set, her set from one grandmother, a set from her other grandmother (she will be getting another set from her when she passes) and she was just gifted another set from a former co-worker. It was a really nice gift as the value of the plate (who knew they were collectible) was well over $1000. They all have their own storage foam bags with dividers and inserts, which is better than I treat my figures . Currently they are piled on the floor in an 8'x 7' room with other boxes that we haven't opened in 2 house moves (10+ years)

Obviously this will cause some disruption to getting things done model wise, but with them back to school next week hopefully I will be able to at least post pictures of progress in the gaming area set up.

Bummer about the models, moving things is always problematic with this hobby.

Well later today will be my boxing day. Not turning british and celebrating christmas, but boxing up a bunch of models to disappear for a long time. I think the Scythes will be first to get the treatment as I honestly don't want to look at the broken little bugger. But also It will help me clear some shelf space for other projects and since I lost my gaming table with the reorganization I need as much shelf space as possible.

Okay, so boxing day did not occur, at least not the way I wanted it to. I started tackling the other storage room on my own this morning, unfortunately there was more water damage in there than I though, so lots of old books and magazines getting pitched, luckily nothing major. My high school diploma got a little wet along with my senior year yearbook.....I forgot how bad my picture was , some things might get pitched anyways . Moving my old painting table into the storage room will not be happening as I remeasured the doorway and it is 2" too narrow, so that storeroom that was possibly becoming a gaming holding area will not be happening. Instead the old painting desk will get repurposed as the base for a gaming table since my shelves that were the base got repurposed as well.

Onto the production for today........ Well Demogorgon got Primed, I have him in a few pieces for ease of painting. There's the main torso/legs and left arm-tentacles as one piece (friggin huge), each head is assembled separately, the base is by itself as is one of the posts for the summoning circle, and lastly the right arm-tentacles which are grasping the other part of the summoning circle.

Also primed today is the Zombicide: Prison Outbreak set of 90 figures. Once I get things back in a better order downstairs you can expect some painting to begin, and actual decent updates to occur.

Meanwhile I had another look at one of the CMoN upcomming kickstarters which should start shipping in a couple weeks. I missed it and the late pledge chance as well on B-Sieged:Sons of the Abyss. I actually skipped it because the heros were too silly looking, but now I'm kicking myself because I loved the look of the Abyss creatures. They are all molten golem looking creatures that I could see an army built for KOW. Luckily the MM prices for the game are as cheap as the kickstarter prices , I just won't get all the freebies and extras, but I'll be able to pick them up later on when $$$ is available.

I also went in for $1 on the Others (thats the name of it), but I think I will pass on that one, the heroes are lame, but most of the demons look great, but it doesn't fit my style so I have to let it slide. Though if anyone else is in on it I'd like to piggy back on their pledge to pick up a couple items, just shoot me a PM.

Thanks Shaso, The Berserkers are a new evolution in the Zombies from prison outbreak. They are developing exoskeletons like insects, and this hardened skin makes them immune to ranged attacks. So these guys you have to get down and dirty with them to remove them. Also the Berserker abomination moves two squares towards you if you are in line of sight. I went for the green shells on them as I figured that that might ecplain why all my zombies have green skin (its the exoskeleton starting to form on the zombies. I'm not totally sold on the green though and I might try out a grey/black ecoskeleton on another model to see how that looks.

Okay so I WAS going to just crush out zombies In this tale of umpteen gamers, but due to some questions by Grimdork, looks like I've got a KOW itch that needs scratching. So here's the question: what should I do?????

1. Say and do zombies anyway
2. Give in to the dorkside and work on my Orc KOW army
3. Only go partially dorkside and work on my KOW army (Terra Cotta warriors, who I could do as elves, undead, goblins or possibly others)
4. Any other suggestions.

If anything besides 1 is chosen the. I can treat myself to zombies after I finish my monthly painting challenge.

Post by: Theophony

@Cam, well you'd see professional from Grimdork and mediocrity from me, but it's looking like kings of war.
@Azazelx, only one entry, but we may see multiple units happening as the terra cotta guys might get a really simple basecoating and dip technique.
@grimdork, I'd love to get or a done, but I think I'd rather do the terracotta guys, even though their scale is WAY off.

Well the original plan for the Terra cotta guys was grey, which might still happen, even though true Terra cotta soldiers are reddish brown. I'm at work right now, and depending on how I feel when I get home I might try a lighter red with the army painter strong tone dip. On break right now so I need to figure which army list I'll go by.

Elves- elite units with spear blocks, bowmen, sabretooth cats/foo dogs and I can use the Asian dragons I have as monsters.
Goblinz- size is about right, can use the yeti models as trolls
Dwarves- headstrong rules seams to fit, throwing mastiff/foo dogs, cannons
Undead- seams appropriate since they aren't alive, but undead is my main opponents army.

Any other suggestions???

Post by: GrimDork

I'm gonna have to go back and see what all of this stuff looks like. Definitely should use the dragons one way or another. Remember allies too, if there's something like a subfaction within your force.

For goblins, does utterly spineless/yellow bellied make sense for your construct army?

Thematically undead may be strongest but I understand not wanting to mirror match with your regular opponent.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/01/10 06:34:55

I'll need to look at the book again as well.

While I like the idea of dwarves they don't tend to have a whole lot of pikemen. Their headstrong skill keeps them in the fight though, and they are an earthy bunch.

Doing undead keeps them from wavering with the high nerve attributes. Also large blocks of models and raising the dead/ re-animating broken soldiers or sculpting new ones from the ground just seams to fit.

The elf rules to me would mean that the soldiers are more of a magical body that the long dead spirit of the soldiers are place in. They retain their elite skills, lose their personality, and are hard to kill again.

Goblin rules mean the soldiers are controlled by some magic and the hold can easily be broken, but they are cheap and easy to replace.

Oh well. I've been trying not to order uncharted empires, but will probably place an order this week for it. More ideas are definitely needed. No painting done tonight, the wife had other ideas

I think his opponent (brother in law?) Has both kinds of undead with intention to use both lists sometimes.

I'm not as sure that the undead mirror match would be as obnoxious in this game as in whfb though, if both sides have somewhat different forces. Obviously skeletons for terracotta and your opponent may have the same base troops... Didn't you say you had some larger ogre sized unit? There are zombie trolls, werewolves, and wights seem to have been rebranded to large infantry now too. You Chinese dragons... One could be a zombie dragon with vampire rider if you can scrounge up something to ride it... Though the stat lines make no separation between rider and mount like in whfb, so could just use the dragon. I forget what else you have...

The mirror match should be less boring, your have the same units possibly and spells to move them... But units in kow are a lot more similar than fantasy units to begin with. Also no fear in KoW so its not like the .mirror match ribs you both of your primary technique either.

Yes, I would rather steer clear of the undead analog as that is my main opponent and it would in my opinion be more fun to have two different flavored armies facing off against each other.

I really should pick up Uncharted Empires, but Mantics pricing really annoys me and I don't want to order direct from them anymore . They will not get my full $$$. Thewarstore has it, but then a $6.95 shipping charge is more expensive than what a shipping charge should be for a book. I'll give Neal a call on monday to see if he ships media mail as well.

Also just a reminder of the scale difference between my terracotta troops and a mantic orc.

Yeah they're ittle but could still be tough or whatever, being constructs.

The $7 flat rate shipping at warstore lost them most of my small scale business, and MM out the rest of the nails in that coffin. I mean it's not so bad but I won't pay it on small purchases .

I think they also stop selling bits, and that was one of the main things I like to buy from them.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/01/10 18:15:22

Post by: Theophony

the bits was were I MADE money. There was a game store that used to sell the upgrade sprue for the ravenwing for $7 each or so, I got like 50 from them in one shot, spent the week despruing parts and sold the helmets, and other items to the warstore and another bits dealer for twice what I paid. I then turned around and ordered battle forces and then sold off the beaky helmets and things I didn't want and in the end wound up with 2 battle companies of marines for about $50. It took 3-4 months to finish doing that but I was using the ravenwing pads for my custom chapter, and I have well over 1000 of those pads for whenever I finish the whole chapter.

Well that and a desire to build GW kits......which i no longer have, maybe one day....until then my chapter is sitting in their cardboard sanctuary waiting for the last three companies to join them.

In the mean time the washing machine has died , so capital is less than what it could be. Luckily I plan on winning the Powerball this wed. night, so when I'm the sole winner in the $1.3billion dollar prize I'll be able to make actual space marines

Oh and a link for KOW. http://kow2.easyarmy.com/ the unofficial armybuilder to help set up your Orcs, I've played with it a little and seems to work great.

Yeah, shaping up to be a crappy week. Mashing machine broken, just found out my uncle passed away last night (he was 90, so a good long life, but he was like a second father to me), also this last week we got bad medical news on my dad. Basically waiting for blood work this week. If it's better then all is well, if it hasn't improved then he would need immediate dialysis, which he has refused. That would mean less than two weeks till the next funeral. I can understand his thinking, or at least respect it, but at the same time I don't want that outcome. So production might be lower than anticipated here soon.

Thanks everyone for the support. As my wife told me last week "Suck it up buttercup, we're in for a rough couple of years with our relatives getting older" She then proceeded to list off about 10 people who we both don't think will be with us in the next 2 years. Been to funerals, but not anyone very close to me in a little while, and relative wise i've been lucky for years.

Well, trying not to dwell on it too much, so onto more important things.....KOW.

Decided to pick up some more fodder for the terracotta army.

4 boxes of the Han Infantry starter set (40 figures in each) so 160 figures for $12.00.....Total. Yes the size is smaller as my scale shot shows, but I'm leaning towards using the elves rules.

So I just added a total of 80 spearmen, 40 Archers and 40 swordsmen to my already massive horde.

Time to start snipping away at the host.

Thanks Carlos13 and Da Boss, appreciate the sympathies, I'm doing alright with it but I'm sure that will change at the funeral.

Watchful eye studios did their Kickstarter when I was broke, a week or two sooner and I would have been broke just the same but for a different reason. The only problem is they are 28mm scale and these guys are 20mm scale, so matching them may not work out .

I only cut the single piece models from the sprues, which is half the spearmen and swordsman, but all archers are single piece plastic. The rest might happen eventually, but no rush from me. Here's what they look like

They have since been primed and I did the priming white this time instead of gray to see about dipping with a darker wood stain.
40 spears, 40 archers (two poses) and 20 swordsman. Ther remainder are 40 spearmen with spears facing forward, so a moving rank while the others are at attention. There's also 20 more swordsmen in a weird almost dancing pose, which might not get assembled.

The figures that are alternate two piece poses might be getting hacked up for blown up filler soldiers who have been broken.

I was thinking that the Watchful studios guys could be the actual people of Mantchina and the 20mm guys could be some kind of magical construct or living but not life size statues. Just a thought.

I missed the watchful eye studios kickstarter because I was broke at the time and I would rather Ming Chinese if someone finally releases them than the era the watchful stuff was based in.

Well maybe with my guys all tightly knit together and your orcs all spaced out it will be an even match.

Ouch. My condolences for your Uncle and I hope it works out for the best with your father, Theo. But your wife's right. Both of our parents here are getting to/already at that point as well, so it's kind of like a morbid waiting game where to just try to maximise the quality time that you have left.

That's a hell of a price on those Terracotta soldiers. I reckon you could very feasibly use larger models as living troops alongside the automatons without having scale issues. It'd even make the two troop types more distinct.

@azazelx, I hadn't thought about the two sizes that way it might work.
@carlos13th, I have a great idea I hope I can pull off which would have the soldier on the first rank be just the legs left, the next rank be legs and crotch, third rank have just a bit more and the back rank be almost a full soldier with the ball embedded in his chest, maybe some cracks.

The price on them was definitely right with miniaturemarket having the boxes at 80% off in the store, so $3 for 40 mini-minis

If I do decide to do the two different sizes, then I can play with the basing a bit more, as it is I was thinking of just using the trays you see and urging them to size, but that may change now.

not really looking into 15mm minis, Ibought the Arcane legion stuff for price before seeing their size. Then decided to go crazy for tons of them and just say were the lilipution (spelling?) faction. I mean old-old warhammer had the midget race (can't remember their name), but they have been lost in time with the zoats and squats. I think i'll just stay with this size for now as i really like how they rank up.

Well I got a few minutes so I was looking through the army entries, still haven't bothered getting uncharted empires, they want the same $$$ for the digital edition as the printed edition

Anyways I looked at Baselia, even though I dislike the models, but I think it might fit the terracotta troops well. Though it says that they have shields I think the stone body makes up for that . THe spearmen and swordsmen fit well as Men at arms, and the bowmen could be considered the crossbow unit. As for Paladins, well the Arcane legion Han troops have a samurai contingent that I think could make nice paladins, or i have Legend of the five rings Samurai. They also have a Paladin riding dragon which would allow me to field the Chinese dragon. All troops also have the iron resolve characteristic as well, which kind of makes sense with the terra cotta troops. Iron resolve says if your nerve test comes back as steady, then you regain one lost nerve point. To me this would mean that one of the broken constructs reassembles itself, or wasn't as badly damaged as was thought.

In the mean time i need advice.
Heres how the guys looked when I was painting them grey over a rusty brown primer, also given a strong tone bath.

Looks good, but also looks more stone/chiseled than cast out of terracotta.

Here's primed brown guys with just a quick ink wash, right side is black wash, left side is a red wash.

I kind of like the black washed guys the way they are, but I think I'll hit them with a little drybrush of brown (a slightly different shade for contrast) in some areas and possibly the strong tone. I am planning on grassy bases to match my playing table. Also for color and actual painting without cheapskating do you think I should paint the handles of the spears? The real spears were bronze I believe, but I don't know If I should just do the terracotta all over?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2016/01/13 20:39:57

Post by: GrimDork

From 3 feet bronze and terracotta aren't that different honestly. And its a lot of extra work because for the bronze to come out well you'll probably have to paint them black first =/ Not sure I would bother if you.

Basilleans sounds like a fitting choice.

FWIW, bronze goes really well over red/brown. In the same way that I base coat black for iron/silver/etc, I always basecoat red-brown for gold/brass/bronze/copper.

@Shaso, No, didn't try a brown wash, I was really wanting stronger variation, and I think the strong tone will give a brown tint once it is added....if it is added.

I spent most of today preparing for the funeral of my late Uncle. Service was good, It's been a long time since I've attended a service for a family member. It was held in the church that he helped locate and was very involved with throughout his life. He helped choose the location it was built on and served for a long time. Speaking of service I had known he had served in the US army, but I did not know he worked at the headquarters for Gen. Douglass Macarthur, nor did I know that he had received the Bronze Star in WWII. He passed away on Saturday at the age of 91, he and my aunt had been married 65 years. He will be missed by us all.

Obituary for any interested. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/stltoday/obituary.aspx?n=cordell-v-queathem&pid=177249950

not much else happening today besides calls to locate a copy of Uncharted Empires. Seems it's out of stock everywhere, and thewarstore.com put me on hold forever, when I hung up and tried again I got a recording saying that they were away from the phone or closed. I might try later as I'd like to have the dead tree version.

I can see why you didn't get the digital version... 12.50 pounds becomes 25 dollars. Because the pound is double the value of the dollar ffs... sigh I guess I won't be getting one for awhile either lol.

That's the thing that reAlly burns my butt the exchange rate right now and has been for a while is around 1.5:1 rate. If they'd let me order direct from them I'd pay it in GBP with my cc, and my bank would do the exchange. They also charge crazy shipping.

Actually right now it's 1.426-1, plus there would be no VAT. I thought about getting the digital, but it's the same price . I should work harvesting pixels, because that's like being a lumberjack....without the flannel.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out a list so I can plot my monthly goals. I really want to use the Krudger on winged slasher but he takes up nearly 1/3 of the points in a 1000 point list. It's not so much that I mind an 'all your eggs in one basket' approach, as I can't figure out exactly what else to pack into the remaining points. I'm currently painting the Morax, the most expensive infantry block I could have gone with. So now there are only 500 points left to work with

I could expand the challenge to 'get all of my orcs done' but I have so much stuff I'd like to do that I don't like that idea. Anyone versed enough at KoW lists to take a crack at it?

Thanks Azazelx, He did have a great run, but also overcame a lot. Including a car accident when I was 7-8 that they said he would not survive, or walk after, but he did.

I'll try and knock something out for you, with a flying slasher it might get to be a small list.

Well just dropped a warlord titan cost on furniture , but two of the kids (both girls) got all new furniture in their rooms. Real furniture, not particle board stuff. We will be getting my son a new dresser tomorrow.

Tax returns. Uncle Sam is making sure the kids are taken care of. Plus they keep growing no matter how little we feed them. Brother in law came to help move things, but has an early morning tomorrow, so couldn't stay. Which was fine as there was nowhere to do anything.

Well, had to change up what I'm doing for the tale of umpthirty gamers. The KOW army just wasn't motivating me, and watching the walking dead again has me wanting to do moar zombies . So back to the Black Plague.

More details later, about to start working.

Edit: started with the green flesh like my other zombies, but I might try something new for Black Plague.....

Ahhh probably grew up with or used one of those felt boards in school. Not flannel, but I remember as a little kid having display boards in the classroom that were just cut out shapes of felt on a felt backing. It just hung via friction and static. The idea was that the little crumb crunchers wouldn't eat a pin or something. Clearly the lady stopped her language development in early primary school

I like hoards of Great Ax, although at 1000 you are probably looking at just regular blocks. That said, you have a TON of points in a model that can zip around and get flank bonuses fairly easily, so mid sized units of regular guys to just soak and hold might be a good plan. A regiment or two of Ax, and then one of Greatax might do you. A war drum to boost your Nerve or skulks to zip forward and engage shooting units isn't a bad add to get to 1000 then. Skulks fight just about as well as normal orcs, so better than most shooting units, but also get vanguard move so they can engage turn 1 if you go second and your opponent is aggressive. If there isn't anything shooting you that you care about, they can pepper the enemy and get the occasional flank.

Godspeakers are neat, but only if you have hordes so.... never mind that for now.

@Wehrkind, That is how she teaches the kids bible stories with felt cut outs of bible figures on the felt/flannel boards

So here are my Necromancer and Abomination. The Abomination was obviously hung for poor attire choices

Dryer just shot Craps , man I hate my life right now.

Tomorrow I shadow a guy in a different department at the hospital. I think I'll enjoy it more than what I do and if/when I get certified then there's a pretty good raise invovled with it. Hopefully it pans out, I've basically been offered the job, they just want me to shadow them for a day to see if I think it's up my alley or not. I'll be one of the technicians cleaning all the surgical equipment and tools to have them ready for the next days cases. Supposedly a really good gig where people never leave that area and there's a good calling in it. we've lost a few people to head hunters as that certification is in demand in the hospital field, and with the hospital paying me to train for it .

Thanks Cam .

He does indeed have a red hood. I didn't want to do a black hood, but then I didn't think how the red would work with the rest of the model . luckily I have duplicates of both of these showing up when they ship the stretch goals.

I did notice some spots on the be romanced (I forgot to paint his knife handle and belly broach. Also part of his cape didn't get painted.

Just got home to find my copy of Uncharted Empires arrived from thewarstore.com It looks great, but I guess I'm just oldschool in thinking that for $25 it should be hardbacked, or be thick, at least one of those, but nowadays I guess it's a good deal compared to GWs codex, Especially since this has 9 armies so the GW price would be 9x$50=$500 (extra $50 is for saving you the trouble of having to lug around 9 books).

Hopefully tuesday and Wednesday I can get some painting going.

I call the green dressed guy the Sheriff of Rottingham . I could totally see CMoN doing an expansion with Kevin Costners Robin Hood as the basis. It could have the opposing group function going so you could have your king, sheriff and a few lackeys versus Robin hood and the gang. Special weapon would be a spoon to carve peoples eyes out .

anyway here's a quick and probably only shot of the whole zombie squad with the abomination and Necromancer. I did a fast strong tone splash on everyone, they are still drying.

Basing still needs to be decided.

So I'm a bit under the weather today, spent all morning sitting in bed, or laying down watching The Walking Dead (there went the rest of season 4 and most of 5 ), but I got a burr up my backside to go and paint.....what else, but zombies.

Here's the base skin tones on all the fatties I had left for Black Plague (which I am renaming Green Plague ), and some more Zombie trolls and Zombie Troll Shamans from Dungeon Saga. 18 Figures there, I know they aren't done to count them, but they are at least started.

Then my oldest got home from school, and she watched as I painted and we had some quality time talking while I painted. It's been a long time since good quality time was had, she's hitting those teen years (13 in 2 months and already PMSing ). So as she was taking intrest in my paints (pulling them all out and trying to pronounce all their names....Thanks GW ), we talked about school, friends and other stuff. Somewhere along the process all the rest of the Zombicide: Green Plague zombies came out and got base colored.

Thats another 42 partly done (60 so far for the day )

If I have the energy later I think we will play "The train game" (Mayfair Empire Express), a game I played many decades ago as a teenager. They enjoy playing it, and I just don't have the energy to get out the Zombicide set which got shelved in the basement when we had water damage a few months ago.

Stopped by MM this morning after working at church for a couple hours. They've had some VIP Zombicide boxes for half off, but I left them there as I already have one of each set and you can only have so many hot dog suit wearing zombies , okay, not really, you could have a whole board of them for fun . But they did put out new stuff since last week, including the now primed and drying Karl Kopinski artist Zombicide survivors set that I bought for $12.50. The box was damaged, but they pack everything so well that I didn't need to worry.

2 survivors and 2 zombivors

They also had 8 boxes of an Infinity Demo Pack for $10 each, I left them as I probably will never get a game in. They have 6 of the operation icestorm figures in there, so great deal to get 6 metal figs for $10. Nothing else really caught my eye while I was there, so still enough cash left for TWD Kickstarter early bird that I have. Pretty sad that the KS isn't doing anything exciting now in its second week with days of 3-4K in pledges, I think Mantic really screwed the pooch on this one. I'll probably drop my pledge later as the sculpts are only Meh! Unless Mantic starts adding stuff and clarifies exact shipping I see a big drop coming soon. (Or on the last day)

Wait 6 operation icestorm models for $10? Too bad it's a 2 hour drive...I'd get those just for the weapon bits at that price lol.

I think I'm more interested in Project Z too, TWD will probably be OK, but I'm not *that* big a fan.

@grimdork, it's the 3fusiliers and 3 other basic troopers that come from the icestorm box. I really thought about grabbing a couple, but the I have also been thinking about what game stuff to drop/sell since I won't be playing with them.

Managed to get some painting in today. All the zombie trolls (including shamans) that I had got their bloody bits painted and one shaman I got all the way done painting and strong toning...... Until I saw some spots I missed . No pic yet, I'll try and shoot one tomorrow afternoon.

Also finished season 5 of TWD again, now to wait a year till I can watch season 6

Oh and I was offered a job at another hospital, even though it's two hours away I thought about taking it since it would be near Grimdork and I could possibly get games in.

If I had them available I'd get one, possibly two packs. The bodies would get samey very quickly but the extra combi rifles would be handy for conversions which I'd like to do but usually don't have the parts for. I'm sure I'll live though, I've still got to paint most of my original dudes before I need worry about having spares

I've noticed that dipping can sometimes feather out certain touch-up-requiring issues, though it does nothing for others.

Haha, which hospital? I'm pretty liable to be around for awhile since we decided to buy our house this time, but that's a pretty heavy decision to make just to get a little gaming in

@Warboss, Thank you Sir, Man hugs always accepted.
@Bama, good to see your back bud , we're surviving here.

Last night we got 3" or so of snow and the streets were slick, so church was cancelled. That meant quality home time with the family. As i work second shift I only get Wednesday and every other weekend to spend the evenings with them, so it was nice not having all of us to run out for church events and stuff. Kids and i played Empire Express, a train track building game with crayons , and my wife got to unwind without being alone with the kids by herself.

I painted up 2 of the Z:BP survivors yesterday as well, they still need strong toned, so no pics.

I am spending far too much time watching TWD kickstarter flounder and flail like a ..........walking dead zombie chasing a rabbit. It's really sad seeing such a great opportunity get wasted by Mantic.

I'm very sorry about your uncle.

That medieval serving wench with the Zweihänder... Good stuff.

I've been away for a bit... so much catching up on all my subs... You guys need to slow down (or I need to speed up)

Also, the dryer, what's the issue. A heating element is normally easy to replace yourself. The drum rollers are a bit tricky, but do-able. I hate buying new appliances for some reason, so I've repaired my dryer a couple of times. Washing Machines and Dishwashers OTOH, forget about it. Water+Electrical is not something to play with.

Enjoy the 3" of snow. If you need more, I still have a 5' high mound of the stuff on my front curb that you are welcome to have. Taking forever to melt...

@Red, welcome back good sir . The dryers motor was shot, and the bearings were probably what did it. It's the fourth time we had work done on it and enough was enough. We now own singing washer and dryers. The chime happy little tunes when they finish their cycle. I almost like doing laundry now .
@ Azazelx, yes, the more I look at the dungeon saga stuff the better I like it. Too bad they fired that sculptor , Mantic.....who cares. Kind of like the walking dead KS, they've botched that as well. At least I still have KOW and ......well that's all of the Mantic stuff I'll support, I have the $1 rules for warpath coming, but I'll use marines or sedition wars stuff for that.

Thanks for the support and encouragement guys, I definitely need some right now. Dads fever was controlled last night but jumped back up to 101.3 even with all the antibiotics they put him on, still waiting results of the blood cultures and other lab work. I had talked to one of the Dialysis ladies at work and she had told me a few weeks ago that there is a huge risk of Staff infections from the ports they put into patients for Dialysis, so I'm thinking thats what must have happened here.

Anyway.....Stopped by MM again this morning on the way home from church work.....I have to stop doing this .

They had a box of the Dungeon saga evil dead miniatures (1 of each of the undead from the core box - the Zombie troll shaman), box was destroyed, but miniatures are mostly fine, just the really tweaked bases/ankle issues, and theres the obligatory mantic point that came with it . Also picked up a box of hasselfree minatures ( won't be hasselfree if the wife sees them , japanese schoolgirl, bikini underwear chick with uzis and two other metal figures for $2.00, had seen them there for a long time but hadn't bothered looking at the price tag, at .50 a figure I figured they can be used for something. Funny thing is I guess hasslefree used the same boxes as KOW did originaly, because it came with a KOW flyer from the first edition and a mantic point as well . Also they had put out a paint rack of MSP paints and all my golds have dried out and even restorer hasn't helped so grabbed some gold for $2. Not a bad haul, at least the dungeon Saga thing came with another Zombie troll, so I have 6 now (2 troll units) with 2 shamans to guide them.

Best wishes for your father.

Ah well, if the motor is shot, then you're shot out of luck washing machine technology has advanced quite a bit, eh. Now there's this notion to hook them up to the internet (of things). I don't see that ending as well as its proponents imagine. I have no idea what a washing machine hacked and running some sort of malware would do...

Those look like old DVD cases. Hasslefree minis, the females all have the same face, or so it looks to me. I heard that it is the sculptor's wife's face.

@Theo: While this doesn't appear to be half as big as their Dungeon Saga/KoW or Deadzone stuff, nearly 300k worth of pledges ain't half bad...

@AOV, The fact that they are just now hitting $300k is so disappointing to me. I have resigned to drop my EB pledge unless things explode soon. Theres just too many other things vying for my money and Mantic isn't making anything lookoutstanding to me.
@Graven, Wife has not murderised me, we had our Valentines date night last night. We went to see the movie Hail Ceasar!, which was excellent . I got the figs at Miniaturemarket's retail outlet which is less than 2 miles from my house, if you think they have great deals online, their brick and mortar store is even better as all the dinged and dented boxes (most are just timy creases or even just shrinkwrap that had been torn) get put out for 1/2 price or more.
@ Red, These were the boxes the original Mantic games came with back in the days of just Undead, elves and possibly dwarves, and Hasselfree had decided to try it out as well I guess. Now the dreadball teams and boosters come in these cheap plastic cases, but thats how they used to do the whole range of models for kings of war. It might be how it's still done, but all i ever see anymore are army cases (cardboard) and not unit boxes. Wahing machine technology has gotten more advanced as well, they even got rid of the center agitator, so now the load size is almost double what it used to be

Date night last night along with kids hockey game (a 14-0 trouncing of the opposition, they stopped counting at 10-0) along with getting a roof quote took up most of the day so no painting was done. Dad is having more tests done, echocardiogram turned out not to be that great, but dad is 77 and not anywhere near as active as he had always been before, plus the diet is not as good as it should be either, They think the fever is from an infection from when they installed the dialysis port into his shoulder area, it's the main concern right now and they are trying to treat it aggressively. I have church responsibilities today, then I am headed up to see him afterwards, wife and kids are not going as he is in isolation due to the possibilities of the infection and them wanting to limit his contact outside and risking others from getting it. We have friends coming over tonight so while I'm away the kids need to get cleaning for 20 plus people to come and ransack the house, so no games tonight.

Well, Zombicide makes things more interesting than TWD, with it having the unique zombie types. TWD is just your bog standard shuffling zombies so I can't see how the game will be particularly gripping.

@AOV, Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Zombicide now. I never saw the draw until playing it and painting them up. Can't wait for expansions for Z:BP so I can have more variety of Fantasy zombies.

Sitting in the Hospital room right now. Dad had emergency surgery this morning at 8am. He had complained about his shoulder on thursday right about the time the fever started, but only mentioned it was sore. By last night he could barely move it and tey drew a sample of fluid from it late last night for a culture. When the results showed infection there they rolled him downstairs and started cutting ASAP. They got it out before the infection could set into his shoulder, and they still don't have a positive answer to what it is exactly, but it came back as a grahm positive stain on his blood work, so it matches the infection he has in his blood with whats in his shoulder. More Antibiotics in the IV, and were waiting to see the Surgeon now. He's back in his room having just finished lunch and is now drifting off to sleep. Luckily church got cancelled due to weather (1-2" of snow and sleet hit here starting right as I got the call that dad was being wheeled down. Lots of fun. Between mom and Dad we have had one or both in the hospital since August, getting old sucks, I'm telling my kids not to do it.

@everyone, thanks for the wishes and prayers. Dad has some sort of Staph infection, it takes a while to figure out which, and it has been aggressive. They believe they got all of it out of his shoulder, but the tubes that were placed into his shoulder for dialysis seems to be the culprit, and staph infections can live n the plastics they use for the tubing so it has to be removed, but he needs to have dialysis tomorrow before they remove the tubes. They then need to get a new line installed for future dialysis into his stomach after they kill the infection. So 3-4 days in between which is the longest he can go without the dialysis. Heart issues will have to wait till after that's done and established a good dialysis schedule, so no marathons. His right arm is isolated in a sling right now because of the surgery today and will be limited after the removal of the tubes tomorrow. Fun times .

Now to unwind with some " Better call Saul"

Miniature drop from miniaturemarket.com

I cleared their shelf of Aurlok Nation starters and Khaliman Republic figures. 31 total models for $31. These are really nice resin/plastic models. I have some back a ways in my thread.

I was thinking that they would make some nice Herd troops. The bubble wrap pack at the bottom is how the Great Dust Tactics packages their new itemss . It is the premium scenic well that MM has for about $9.

I can't , but i've admitted it, which is the first step they say. No one ever says what step two is though, so I'm just screwed. In the mean time I did corrupt someone who was buying infinity stuff at miniature market and showed them the $10.00 boxes I talked about last week. He bought one , the cashier had a good chuckle with me after he left.

The models have been assembled and are loose on their bases as these will get multibased similar to how Grimdork has done his Orcs. I'll have to bust out my beastman shoebox to look through it all this weekend. Plus I think Demogorgon will need to be the centerpiece for the army .

How I'm really screwed is that there are 7-8 flgs within 15 minutes of me , MM is just the cheapest and on my route home from my job at church, so I stop by at least 1 a week with average being more than twice a week.

My Feb. group shot.

4 Black Plague survivors, 18 zombies (12 need to get stong tone coated, but my container full turned solid . 2 Dungeon saga zombie trolls (ones a shaman) and some dungeon saga terrain.

Dwarf, Barrels and the well

3 survivors being chased by 6 completed zombies, a zombie troll, and a zombie shaman who may or may not be controlling them.

12 more zombies waiting for their goo bath

March Goal.....last 2 survivors of the black plague (till the rest of the pledge arrives and I get 40 or so more , and the rest of the zombies from black plague main box (24 left). I find batch painting them speeds things up and I actually got all of their skins done in February, they just need clothes no naked zombies, theres no good call for that.....ever.

31 painted items in a month seems good to me, not my best, but will hopefully have more time in the coming weeks to crank out the rest.

@Red, Sorry to hear that, I'm not even counting the stores that are set up for card games only either. Plus tons of hobby shops for terrain buys.
@GrimDork, well the month wasn't over yet Happy Leap year day everyone

with an extra day in the month and a morning off i decided to pump my model count up a little. I'm still going to try and swing by Lowe's on my way into work and pick up some stain to replace my solidified Strong tone. Until then, 4 bookcases, 2 podiums, 3 tables and 2 Fatty walkers from ZBP to join the gang.

not spectacular, but I wanted to do some quartered colors on the fattys to mke them stand out more than the other zombies.

Thanks Azazelx

Next month will be a bit naff. My twins birthday is the 11th, my 15th anniversary is the 24th and my oldests birthday is April 10th, so most of my weekends for the next 1.5 months are booked up. There's also that Easter holiday thing in their too. Didn't make it to the hardware store to get my polyshade today, got painting done and a haircut (overdue), might have time Wednesday. Might just hold off on that a while though and just batch them all at once later on.

Sarastro just put up a new zombicide:Black Plague painting tutorial, I watched it the other day, one of the reasons I did the quartered scheme on a few figures. His style is why I started painting up the zombicide stuff.

Well, another stop by MM and more models to paint. Thanks to DA Boss for showing off some scale pics of the Descent figures from Visions in the dark

4 hero figures (wizard, knight, fighter type and a lizard guy with pet baby dragon on his shoulder. 2 trolls, 2 Ogres and 2 manticores round out the baddies.

Dungeon saga undead troll and Zombicide hero for scale purposes. They have been primed and are drying now. They'll fit into the cue.....someday

Stopped by MM with the intent of picking up some figs in their marchmadness sale.....bought other stuff instead

12 zombicide zombivors, the zombie version of the 12 figures from Rue Morgue. They have already been primed and are now drying. Also picked up some sort of basing sand $2, and 5 more paints at $2 each. There were some other items on the shelf that i passed on, like Star Wars Armada starter sets, one was 50% off and the other was 60%off due to box damage. Saw some other interesting items, but nothing screaming buy me.

EditL Painted up 3 more survivors, well 2 survivors and a Zombivor.

Shannon the head shaved girl and dude with a baseball bat to start (can't remember his name)

Starting to feel an itch to scratch build......and buy a ton of stuff from the MM march madness sale. When I say a ton, I'm taking 100+ miniatures . I keep hoping someone wlse buys them first.

Slight detour by Miniaturemarket.......again. I cleared them out of the Alkemy Triad booster boxes. 13@2.50 each=65 figures for Kings of War.

39 archers, 26 spearpersons. I already have some of these figures (very crisp details), but I think the new ones I'll be painting green and using in a Herd army that I'm devising using the rest of my Alkemy figures to build up. I'm thinking more of a mixed army of mainly humans with the beasts being the spirit beasts that the humans evolve into. Even though these are more Asian styled I think they can become more like a nomadic native american indian culture. Need to work on the totem poles concept next.

Damn, forgot about that sale... I wonder what I can talk myself into buying last second... Apparently not 3 more boxes of kung-fu infantry!

That Rabbit is awesome, Theo. It's cool enough to work as a centrepiece in KoW games and lots more to boot. But bloody hell I'm jealous when you flaunt all that MM loot. Nothing like that in the entire country here.

TA everyone for the comments.
Just back from working at church for a few hours and I think I'll get more work done on the rabbit. I think I have an Idea for the doors, and will try and fix the "hatchback" that is just loose on the rabbit. Also my whole pot of armypainter dark tone is not ruined . just like the top inch had solidified, I scooped that off this morning, so the rabbit might just be getting it's fr coat today too. Got to take a shower first and get everything ready for my other job though . I really need to find a new job so I can dump this 2 job thing.

So functioning hinge is in place.

Well the front and back hatches have been crafted, they still need to be strong toned, and then tied into place using some string (like a coconut tied to a Swallow ). I want to find a sheep model (or cheap plastic toy) and cut it in half using the back half as the fluffy cotton bunny tail on this and put the front half inside the back hatch so it looks like they crafted the trojan bunny around it. Not a real Monty Python embelishment, but I think it would fit the mood. Otherwise we have some craft stuffing for pillows that would work, but I like the sheep idea better.

a bit blurry on the figs, but they are just there for reference to size. Kids began spring break from school today, wife is off all next week with them, but she is at a women's retreat tonight, so there might be some zombie action happening before work tonight.

Is that African or European?

Good job Theo. Like the sheep idea.

It's North American, Doc. It'll kick serious Euro-weenie* butt. African too. Not sure about its favorite color though...

The trojan rabbit, or would it be better called a Camelot Coney, perfect. A truly cool scratch build.

*N.B. Peoples of the Anglo-Saxon Sphere are not really "European", are they? ( And why some are in the EU mystifies me, but what do I know; I'm in the same country as Texas )

Well I almost went a couple days without buying anything. I even stopped looking at the miniaturemarket deal of the day.... until this morning.
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/cmnbsg001.html
CMoN's B-Sieged. I tried to late pledge for it, but I was a day late for the late pledge cut off. I almost bought it a few times since, but managed to keep from doing so. Alas my willpower broke with 40% off. 70 minis for $60. I don't like the hero figs, but I am envisioning a chaos dwarf (rules wise) KOW army with using rock people as the core troops. A guy had a Kickstarter a couple months back on rock guys, I wasn't going to spend money on that, but I will steal his idea. Plus I have an original pet rock band somewhere which could make an appearance.

Huh cool. Didn't even look twice at that Assuming it was a non minis board game. I'm doing pretty good skipping their deals except for 50% infinity. Abyssal dwarfs/rock elementals sounds cool.

Well, got time to do photos today.

So that's the last two of the Black plague characters and a bunch of survivors for the contemporary Zombicide, a few of the Zombivors to go with them.

15 year anniversary tomorrow, spending the day with my wife and son today, the girls are at a camp at school, we will be picking them up around 2 and have a concert tonight at church and 4 guests staying over after that, so likely not much getting done here. I might be able to break away and coat the other figures that I painted up over the last few weeks, but doubtful.

that chainsaw wielding fella in red ... his t- shirt is as crisp as it gets... that "H" (?) on his chest is one hell of a neat job!

and have fun with the damsel... and let the minis sit for a day... you never know when you need to point out you spent a whole day just for your wife...maybe when you need to defend why you had to buy these other awesome thousands of minis...

Congrats, Theo! Hope you both have a wonderful anniversary.

(and the Zombicide guys look great, as per usual!)

@Vik, Good to see you around and kicking. I hope the job is working out well for you. The "H" on his chest is actually sculpted on, so it was a pretty easy paint up.
@Azazelx, thanks, I need to get working on a lightbox, I realize tha since my Ipad went to that the pic qualities have died, but also moving my painting upstairs to the kitchen with mixed lighting has hurt as well.

The zombiecide stuff looks good Theo! I think I nearly have a full Battalion of soldiers to assemble and deploy, not counting their vehicles support mind you. I wonder how many total zombies you have assembled so far.

They come assembled, so I have lots, over 300(painted), and mine don't need sleep, food, or motivation to come eat your guys and bring you to our side

All is fair in global thermal nuclear war. Plus your guys are all infected anyway, so if they die they rise as my team.

Great concert at church tonight, plus ice cream .

@evil dr cheese,Well, they are a bit buggy, and will pinch your cheeks really hard if you don't watch out .

Goofed up on a quote over in news and rumors, catching some slack for it. Oh well. Make a joke and it backfired. For my own good I should not go into that section of the forums. Costs me too much when I see an upcoming KS or a sale somewhere or another new game coming out.

People are kind of dicks in the N&R forums. Not as bad as the W40k stuff, but there's still a lot of dickishness. Mods seem to play favorites on certain topics and slight off topic segues get barked at, and sometimes there's radio silence from that end. It's a big forum, and all that, but can't help but notice a pattern here and there. I appreciate getting the news ASAP, but it's rarely worth putting up with the threads that deliver it.

Also isn't it flack? I thought slack is what they'd give you if they *weren't* bothering you... though this is from the guy who once thought people were saying "for all intensive purposes"...

I'm truly amazed that anyone would react negatively to your joke-- quote tags get missed all the darn time. Don't let it bother you too much.

The latest zombicide models look nice, but the Trojan Rabbit is fantastic.

I started to build my April challenge today. I think I've given March the boot.

SO For April I'm hoping to get a Kings of War 2000pt army Completed. Ambitious Yes!!!
But not too ambitious as it is an Ogre army using the models I picked up from B-Sieged and a Blood Rage Fire Giant.

So the Army looks mostly like this.

2 regiments of siege breakers (one has the quicksilver rapier) only 2 models per base.
4 regiments of shooters (one with the piercing arrow) only 2 models per base
2 hordes of boomers 6 models per base
1 boomer sergeant, with crystal pendant of retribution
1Grokagomok
1 Giant

27 models. Plus for the first time ever Theo does bases . I'm trying a simple lava base as all of these critters are borne of the firery core of the planet.

pics

Whole army on bases

Fire Giant with shooters behind him. bases are just thick cardstock base with cork for hardened lava outcropings.

Siege Breakers

Boomers

@Cam, I love the idea of the little lizards shooting fire out of their mouths too .
@Shaso, I'm glad they look Brutal, as all the models have the "Brutal" attribute . It makes the opponent more apt to fail their morale checks.

The Fire Giant will need a little explaining as to how it survives, but I think some sort of magical armor keeps him from being toasted. Here's a better shot of it and a human sized model from Blood Rage.

@AOV, I thought about doing just that, but then I never bothered to try to do bases before. I've since watched a few tutorials, and I thought of going a little further with the bases.
