Well July fast approaches. A little bit of paint this morning, needed some recoup time so putting off a few things. NPC zombies have more detail and take more time to complete.
Jester, jailor and noble guy. Might get another done today, but I'm watching shield right now.

Not quite that bad, usually I watch something on my tablet or laptop while painting. Today I was just really sore from being on vacation the previous week and then coming back to a long stretch of really high census at the hospital. I find it amazing how quick my muscles can atrophy when on vacation for just a week .

Old age has not helped me at all (42 on Tuesday) . I wish my Dyslexia would work on my age because 24 was great .
Well I didn't post this guy on Tuesday.
I've got four guys painted up but they need their strong tone wash before pics.
Edit: pic inserted
I've got to shade inside the hood where it's really yellow, didn't notice that till the pic hit.
In the mean time I stopped by MM and picked up more cheap stuff.......
They have the angry zombie boxes on clearance for $12.50 each (24 zombies in each box), which is just north of $.50 each , so I bought two boxes. $25 even, which being a local pick up got me a spin on the prize wheel, which netted me a $5 Dairy Queen gift card . So that was 2 addictions satisfied. I'm thinking of building a prison table to field all the zombies on as half the box are inmate zombies and half are police zombies. Still in really rough idea mode at this point as I don't even have my table anymore .

Well in my defense I had a nice set up, but then we reconfigured the basement and took the racks that I used for the base of my table and then I was left without . I still have a 4x6 top that I can throw on a desk to play a big game.
I would like to tear apart a shelf in the garage and rebuild it into a game table with a 4x6 MDF top and storage underneath, but I keep running out of time. I also was gifted with an older but fully functional mini fridge which I would like to incorporate into the base of the table even though I only drink water or Gatorade. Also I'd like to make the table have drop leafs to expand to 4x8 for larger games, but I haven't even played a big battle in over a year.

With the ones I about to show I have about 60 of the Black Plague set done, possibly more, but the glossy ones I'm not liking as much.....I'm toying with the idea of stripping them down and redoing them (including the 300 or so of the contemporary zombicide ones)
Azazelx wrote:That's a bloody nice set of zombies for the month. My BP stuff just arrived today, I haven't even had a chance to look through them properly yet, let alone have half of thempainted!
If you got the knight pledge I think thats about 200 figs on it's own, so getting half of them done would be quite a feat.
well these guys I had painted up in the last 6 months, but my dark tone varnish had gelled up, but I'm liking the non glossy versions more. So I cannot add them to the total for this month as I really already counted them.
I have a few hours before I need to get ready for work, so the paint is out .
Edit: only 3 today, family time before work called.

Thanks Josh .
So I have a quandary. Got some money yesterday Thant can go towards anything. I could either back the Massive Darkness Kickstarter, or use it towards general purpose gaming.
1. Massive darkness is sitting at 143 figs and 25 scenery pieces right now, but I'm not sold on even half the sculpts. I'm sure the game will be good, but all the sculpts I like are available later in the expansions, so no exclusive that I HAVE to have. It's just a great deal now.
2. Some items I've missed in the past have become available now, it's very flexible and I could use it for zombicide (contemporary), necromancy, or any modern or light scifi. It may not be a widely popular item, but it would definitely give me something besides zombies to mess with for a while....and I think I need a break. It would also get me back into terrain building.
My wife pointed out how bad the basement is messed up since the great cleanse, so the great cleanse part 2 might happen tonight/ this week. I'm going to try and get a game table set up one way or another during this process.

I wish I had a game table
I'd go for general gaming stuff IMHO. Or hold until the end of massive darkness KS and see if the good sculpt ratio shifts in your favour.

Post by: Theophony
Thanks TP^ DC deputy manager ,
Well I was going to wait to see the final outcome, but the deal has to be done quick. There's just not enough great sculpts that are exclusive to keep me in. I've arranged through another DD member to be able to grab some add ons, but I think I'm safe waiting until retail for the set if I even bother.
In the mean time, I've harped on how bad my gaming and painting area has been, but I figured some pics were needed.
My storage area
My painting area .
My wife and kids are baking me treats today as Tuesday is my 42nd BDay, so I have already begun making a dent. I have bulldozed a spot to move my old desk to and turn that into the base for my 4'x6' tabletop. It's not great, but it will suffice for now. Maybe next year I'll be in a better position to fix up the basement more.

Absolutely! You've got good stuff down there that just needs to be moved around a bit and you'll have your own hobby nirvana. Can't wait to see the photos.

Well I remembered that the league had a terrain contest on called "let it flow", and I think I can kill two birds with one stone here. I've been wanting to scratch build something and I had an Idea for a terrain piece to put on my new board, so here's my entry into the competition (still in the planning phase).
RULE #6 GO BIG OR GO HOME
Well I spent a few hours yesterday cleaning the basement finally. It's been almost 6 months if not longer since we had water damage down there and my stuff got flung all over. Between being a bit tired of painting zombies and having an itch to scratch(build), I think I've decided to join the competition.
So some of the pieces I have for this have been shown in my blog before and I had this idea a long time back, now I just need to modify it a little to include actual liquid showing. Anyway onto the parts.
First and foremost, most of the parts are recycled parts from work, work around the house and old project.
Item one is recycled out of the trash from the hospital I work at. They are shipping clamps that pop around the neck of newborn infant baby bottles. I found a couple about two years ago and had no idea where they came from, but now I figured it out and have snagged 8 of these babies .
The clamp parts (4 of them) fit 1" PVC pipe, and the space between the clamps on two sides can also accomadate a 1/2" O.D. pipe.
The next item is a packing part that goes inside of plastic window shutters. I salvaged about 20 of these when I put shutters on my house 2 years ago. I've used it on other projects, but now they will be a fixture on this project.
They stand 6" tall roughly and will support the structure I have planned.
Oh and a rough mock up of the main part of this project.
size comparison with some necromunda bulkheads.
The dark grey tube between the large white pvc pipes is just a place holder, it's the only piece I had that would fit it right now. It will most likely get removed all together, or be replaced with some wooden dowel rod.
size comparison with a dreamforge leviathan, a forgeworld dreadnought and a space marine for scale.
I really am going to try and make this a focal point on my table that I want to build, so we will see exactly how this turns out. also I need to figure out how the water effect will be shown. I think I'll create a saddle bracket to mount to one of the pipes and have it drop down to the ground and then have smaller pipes coming off of that. maybe with a broken smaller pipe to have the water come out of it.

Post by: Theophony
So I decided to try and knock out some zombies for the beginning of the month so I can continue with the table build afterwards. With my addition of 48angry zombies last week I figured I could knock out the guards out of that set plus the ones from prison outbreak. That's 20 guards total. I didn't know wether to paint them blue police color or try to mimic how I painted Phil, but I think I'm going to try them in Phils colors if I can get reasonably close I'll be happy as I didn't write down what colors I used on him and that was months and hundreds of figures ago. With 20 of them and zombie Phil, I was thinking I could rank them up and just field them in KOW , I know it's a stretch with them being contemporary, but eh.
Also about to head out to MM To pick up my present that I'm going to get instead of the Massive Darkness Kickstarter. I'll post pics later.

ckig wrote:Go big or go home! I like it looking forward to that.

Thanks Ckig, well here's a little more about the go big or go home idea. Posted over in the competition thread this morning.
Well picked up one of 2 boxes of secret weapon tablescapes clean urban tiles today. Only picked one up so I can double dip tomorrow and get to spin the wheel again (local pick ups at Miniaturemarket get to spin the prize wheel each order that's over $25, but only once per day), so I placed each on separate orders so I can stop by after working at church tomorrow pick up the other box and spin again. Today I hit the 400free points, so that's like $4 off the next order. Also with my birthday today I got 250 free points and 47 points on this purchase. I'll get 47 points tomorrow on that purchase and hopefully hit some more points on the prize wheel.
Miniature market.com had them on clearance for 40% off ($51.40 after tax for me per box) instead of $79.99. These will become the base for my gaming table and at least 1 square(probably 2) will be the base for this competition for me (2square feet).
The box only came with one locking clip , but it comes with a perimeter border that secures the rest of the parts to have a 2' x2' display board. I need to try and contact secretweaponsminiatures.com to see about getting other clips to combine the two sets. I couldn't locate a phone number on their website, so I'll have to track that down next. I really need 9 of these tiles to make a 3'x3' board, but they only had 2 sets of this type. If I can scrape together the funds I'll grab one of the damaged urban sets which I could then have a 3'x 4' table, or just not use a few tiles. The other option I considered was leaving one square empty or filling it with a sheet of plywood cut down.
I started painting the 20 guard zombies. They all have brown pants and hats now, black belts and shoes as well. I'll need to go and do their shirts sometime soon and then hair colored randomly.

Lucky.....yeah.....I get to pay sales tax since we are in the same state . I really need to move across the river to Illinois so that it's just a 10 minute drive and no sales tax. It would also help with not needing to get emissions work done on my car. Oh well we're stuck in our house in a great school district and close to everything. I just need a new job because this doesn't pay enough.
If you think one child is a bugger my twins just turned 11 and the oldest is 13 . Life doesn't get easier, it just gets different, but at least they are better able to communicate than when they were toddlers.

I I stopped off and picked up the second box of tablescapes, but it's in my car as the wife is home . Also grabbed a couple light grey paints as I'm running out of some of mine. Won a $5 gift certificate on the prize wheel . Family day today, so probably no painting or modeling getting done. Automatically Appended Next Post: So my mother in law gave me a gift card, along with the other stuff and store credit I went and bought another set of tablescapes (ruined city), got another $5 Dairy Queen gift card . I got the shirts on the 20 guard zombies all done, just have ties, hair and beards to complete before a wash. That's the tablescapes urban tiles that are damaged. Too right time was the mispacked time as its from the rolling hills or something like that.
Stopped by Lowes I the way home from the kids dr. Appointment. I picked up a few PVC fittings that will hopefully help the terrain display. Also grabbed stuff for my wife's projects, which I'm staying far away from.

EDC, I'm going for an elevated pipeline structure. It was originally conceived as part of a necromunda table, so the pipes were going to split from the 4 pipe stack to 2 going up to the next hive level and 2 going underground to feed this level or possibly the next level down. I am also toying with the idea of building a walkway on top of it to give extra table/play space. Right now it's higher than the tallest necromunda structures they had in the boxes, but who doesn't like a good sniper perch?

there are no wolves on Fenris....Shaso bought them all
Well I finished the mob of guard zombies
Some details,
Also worked on the "let it flow" competition. I wasn't liking the pillar supports and was at a standstill for ladders, so I broke out the battlezones. I remembered why I HATE Mantics Battlezones when the seventh bracket broke trying to reassemble the double tower. I have two options and looking for some guidance.
Option 1 has a armored buttress style walkway, not very real life practical, but better cover
Or option 2 has simple more realistic guard rails
I'm leaning towards the guard rails.

The actual fountain part is from a soap dispenser from work. Obviously it's disposable, I'd never take anything that was attached to a building ....and the tiles were given to me by my sister they are mosaic tiles that come in a huge bucket for crafts, I foresee them being used more in other projects as well.
@Shaso,
Well MisterJustin from secretweaponminiatures.com wastes no time. He sent me a replacement panel for the mispacked piece and extra locking clips . As others have said he seems to be a classy guy.

An old fountain in a town. Could be fantasy setting, modern or even 40K in a not compliant imperial world (no skulls means not compliant).
Base colors knocked out in about 30 minutes. Need these to dry to do second coat and get into all the nooks and crannies. Now to decide if I'm going to actually use water in it, or paint it up as a leaking fountain. The center fountain part is drying right now, it's getting the hammered metal treatment .
This has given me ideas for a few other projects using these mosaic tiles.
And actual fountain piece

I hadn't even thought of LEDs
Well bad storm system went through St. Louis yesterday, we were on the road coming from my daughters doctors visit when it hit. Missed a tree trunk (seriously a tree trunk at least 1' diameter) go flying across the road. Pulled over because we couldn't see 20' in front of us. Wind gusts up to 72mph. We personally saw three transformers blown on our way home including seeing one go up and the wires from it arcing in a yard catching the grass on fire even though it was soaking wet outside. No damage at our house except no power all last night and today, they said some of the 100,000 homes out of power might not get it back till Sunday. Luckily or refrigerator was almost completely empty, same with our deep freezer, but it will all have to be pitched now.
So that's why projects are on the back burner, no light to even paint by . May be staying with my parents tonight thru this weekend due to high temps and no AC. I'll be back when possible.

There's some real holes out there that would break into homes with no power because they know the people are elsewhere.
Stopped by a new Hobby Lobby that opened near our church. Grabbed some 5" cake decoration towers and a pack of wooden barrels which have since been stained.
Zombie for scare purposes.
Columns have just gotten primed. I have an idea for one column, but it requires bits box digging and with the lights out that won't happen soon.

Sucks about the power loss and having to throw a bunch of food out. That storm system might have been part of the same one that hit my hometown (Columbia, MO) the previous day. We got some serious rainfall and wind, but thankfully that was about all (no power losses or anything).

Wood barrels were over by the doll house furniture. 9 barrels for $1.99

power came on at 9pm. About 1 am the house got down into the 70 degree range .

Yeah the wind damage was what really damaged everything, but The rain was blinding at times.
Spent an hour yesterday doing the base skin tones on some zombies. They still need the green skin wash and the orange suit guys had been done before but not completed. There's 26 in this bunch and all will get mobbed together like the prison guards.

Glad that you and the family are all right Theo, one of the blessings of being in the UK is our relatively consistent and reliable weather. And good to see that in spite of the power outage that you got some further Zombie work done, that is dedication to the cause.

@Thraxas, I am very happy to have the varied weather patterns here even with the scary stuff occasionally.
Well quick update, 1 hour of painting got the skin washed and dressed the zombies in their jumpsuit orange.
now my wife dislikes the game because all the female zombies are half naked and these prison chicks are no different . They all are completely topless, but luckily they are berserker zombies with a bug like exoskeleton in places....like covering the boobies . They also are all showing their panties . Oh well, she doesn't play and my girls don't care about that.

The horde grows
Nope, those got too messy, so I scanned them all into my computer and then sold them for a hefty profit on E-Bay.
Llamahead wrote:Wonder? I thought that was confirmed. He's using Zombies to paint all his Zombies how else does he get so many done?........
I could only wish I could train them to do something useful, but they are like kids, they hang around eating everything and driving all the same people away. Then when you think you've finally gotten rid of them they move back in .
Set up my tablescapes boards for a quick looksie.

Are those berserker zombies less slutty or is it just the photo?
The prison set comes with only these berserk zombies or are they special or something? I kind of like their look, is there a box of just those so you can have extra? Thought I remembered something like that. I think they'd mix in well with my plague zombies.
Nice work at any rate

they aren't less slutty, in fact theirs no bras anywhere, but berserkers have bug like exoskeletons breaking through their skin. It just happened that all the women got exoskeleton boob armor which covers it all. , there are both types in the prison outbreak box, the berserkers just have the special rule that they have to be killed in close combat, shooting has no effect. I snagged 2 boxes of "angry zombies" from miniature market.com off their clearance sale, they are gone now but at $12.50 per box and 24 in each box it was too good to pass up. I still have the running berserkers and the fatties to do as well, not thinking of completing them this month as I need to focus on my let it flow display.

Breaking radio silence.......
Well it's been a few months with zero to show. It might well be a few more months till i find some motivation to actually do things again still, but just wanted to stop in and let you all know I am still breathing. Replaced my car with another used car that immediately had difficulties, but seems to be working fine now. Also job search is in high gear now, I'm still working at the hospital, but I just need out of the department I'm in. I've stuck it out almost as long as I need, just a few more weeks. The hospital pays full tuition reimbursement, but you must stay for a year after you complete your degree OR you pay it ALL back within 60 days. My magic freedom day is December 5th of this year, technically December 4th, but I was advised to stick it out till the 5th.....Just in case. I've turned down at least a half dozen jobs over the last two months because the benefits weren't enough or because of this repayment deal, but I just had an interview in another area of the hospital yesterday that might keep me there. I'll be the inventory manager for my hospital and another much larger hospital also here in St. Louis if I get the position. $4 million dollars of on hand inventory at my facility alone and an average of $32 million in purchases a year, and my facility is a third of the size of the other one I'd also be over. What it does mean though is no more evening shifts (my wife and family think they'd like to see me more Fools!!!!! ), and a monday through friday gig with no holidays or weekends....it's almost like a real grown up persons job . I was the first candidate they interviewed and it seemed to go well, but I don't have the experience with the sutures and endomechanical devices I'd be constantly counting and ordering. Anyway, I've had plenty of experience ordering other things that I knew nothing about in previous jobs and the discussions went well during the interview.
Not much in purchasing or playing the last few months during my absence. I did stop by Hobby Lobby last night and picked up
more fantasy sized wooden barrels (9), and a bunch of wooden spools which hopefully will work well with the ziplock bag of guitar string to look like spools of heavy gauge wire/rope.
I also purchased a damaged box from miniaturemarket of Rum and Bones Mazu's Curse
I think it's 36 or so models in there with an asian pirate theme and I got them for $16. The box was damaged bad, but none of the contents were damage, which is a tribute to CMON and how well they package their games. The star of the box is a certain panda that knows Kung Fu and is in samurai armor. All of these just get added to my ever growing box of Samurai and asain themed stuff.
I have been watching a few kickstarters, and thrown $1 into Mythic Battles antheon, but also watching the SOB:Forbidden Fortrress because I love Asain themed monsters and mythology. (I have not put any skin in that game however because you need to put down at least $25 to upgrade in the Pledge Manager, and I need to hear about this job first).
Also been eyeballing the new BloodBowl release. I have to say the models don't do anything for me, I am not a fan of the new AOS larger size models, and since the rules seem to be relatively unchanged I think it will be an easy skip for me, but making a new pitch scaled up is high on my list of things to do.
Anyway.....Not sure if this thread will stay or If I'll archive it and start from scratch. I think this is so mixed up that a clean slate would be good. As my honors history teacher said often Tabula Rasa, We asked for that after a few tests...he was not amused

Well creative juices are simmering right now. At least I'm actually clearing off my table and organizing stuff into boxes......I blame Dsteingass with his basement remodel .
No Holidays just means I don't have to work on any of the major holiday like Christmas, thanksgiving, Memorial Day or New Year's Day. I have to use personal time for it, but it's a lot better than working every other one right now. Like this year I'm off Thanksgiving, but I must work Christmas .

I've shown the barrels before, they have all different sizes for doll house sets and for $1.99 they are great. I hit them with stain and since they are real wood it just looks great with 10 seconds of work.

Still no word on the job yet, hopefully I'll hear by Thanksgiving.
In the mean time I just picked up the operation See Lowe box from Miniaturemarket and decided to revisit the zombicide buildings.
As you can see the board 1C is the starting point for this project. I've filled the voids with the wooden boards/sticks and then have covered the walls using some textured 70# paper. Both sides have been completed now. Maybee the next version I'll try tearing away some of the paper to show the exposed "Shiplap" walls.

Well I didn't get the job , oh well, still looking for better anyway. It would have been good, not the best solution, but it would have been a big improvement.
In the mean time I'm off for thanksgiving today and got an hour this morning to model.
The walls are the floor tiles from dust tactics, thick and solid cardboard that I wasn't going to use otherwise. I used the craft sticks for extra support and to give some extra texture to the walls as crown molding. I might use it to make door casing as well, but I think it's too thick, maybe some plastic card will work.

shasolenzabi wrote:Very nice work Theo! that makes a great set up for some urban game-combat.
Yeah, now I just need a good system to work with....and a gaming group
Well just placed a miniaturemarket order. grabbing a couple black friday goodies.
(2) Dust tactics Operation Zverograde $10 each, comes with 2 figs and some of the building pieces to make another single story structure
(1) Dust tactics operation Cyclone, 2 more figs and 8 terrain pieces (4 ammo cases, and 4 tank traps)
I have to decide if I want to still get the Mythic Battles Pantheon kickstarter or not very soon. I could funnel the $100 into the black friday sale and get a ton of stuff, but the kickstarter is doing pretty well, almost $1.6million with 5 days left. almost triple the figs of the base set now and some of them are huge 4" titans. I just don't know if I want to wait a full year to get them, and the sculpts of some are rather meh. I could just go nuts right now and have one less thing to worry about later, besides the figs are not really crossover materials for me, but would be excellent for a D&D game....which I'm not doing.
Pics later.
Edit: added pics
I might have to pick up operation achilles....It has two cows and a goat

I wasn't even thinking of a paint job for it, but I wish I had some goblins, cause this looks like a propa goblin dreadnought to me. Plus the arms are seperators and it's not one piece with the base, so lots of potential. I am seriously considering picking up more of the sets for the buildings, but the walker is just icing on the cake.

I almost got red veil, but I've lost my desire to even try infinity. I've got 6-7 sets of the one story building, and they stack and theirs a replacement window piece that takes the doors place on the upper levels, so I think I can really build a ghetto out of these kits.....we'll see if more happen my way before the sale ends.

the crates are a perfect size for the models too which doesn't always happen. The female pilot figure that comes with the set is firing her pistol and she fits over the top of the crate just fine.

I'm hoping that I can find a good skirmish game where there are buildings used, otherwise I have plenty of eye candy for my basement of shame....with growth still happening.
Speaking of which
Picked up another three of the operation zverograd boxes this morning. $30 for a three story building, 3 28mm female figures and 3 walkers . Plus since it's from Miniaturemarket and I go pick it up I get to spin the prize wheel. I got $4 in bonus points on top of the $.30 I earned from this order. Most likely another order or two will get placed today. I'm torn between more zverograd boxes (whole city sector of tenements) or some other scatter terrain. I could also grab some of the other dust stuff while on Black Friday sale (ends tonight), choices .

I had the starter box when it came out years ago, the crates were good for not just Dust figures but others, they are a great piece of terrain for so many figures for cover!
Three stories, so ambitious!, wait, 3 more boxes would allow you to make a 4story building if you want as you had the one set already, or do you wish for a 1-story and a 3-story? More building is always good.

I had slightly more than that...........
Technically I have enough for an 11story building . Though now I have a huge building in mind . Something Thant could look like the front of a palace.....or a big white .....house. Either way it would be the centerpiece of a table. That board in the picture is 6' wide after all.

I really liked Olympus has fallen , maybe a true switcharoo and have all the brain dead be protecting the whitehouse from invaders of regular people . Kind of like our election, trying to get rid of the brain dead government and get life back into our nations capital.
I took apart some of the buildings and started on a sprawling mansion, but I really just liked the tenements more, so the board will probably go back to multiple multistory buildings....at least on one side of the street.
Some of the other ideas I had were to grab a bucketload of containers and do a warehouse facility on the other side of the street. That way the tenements could all have nice windows everywhere as opposed to the warehouse which would be more solid slab walls, parking area and the like. Still undecided.
The other terrain I've been eyeballing are all regular discounted prices.

I can readily recommend the reaper shipping containers. The jersey barriers are not nearly as impressive and are probably pretty easy to cast oneself...but those containers are nice. You can leave the lids unglued and store small scatter terrain or other bits.

Yeah I've seen packs of the jersey barriers and thought about making molds myself, but for the price I figured they'd be good enough, or get at least one pack to get the sizes close.

you obviously don't know how this hoarding thing goes do you .
Well about to head out the door. You all may have noticed how I don't like chopping up good terrain pieces. Well I've made a break from that with this dust stuff. For good or bad the saw has come out. Connectors have been removed from the tops of four of the corner pieces. The insert slots for the walls happen to be the same thickness as the card stock used for the floor tiles in the box sets, so they have been chopped as well. The outcome of that is I now have a two story warehouse using only four pieces from the terrain set. Still needs a roof, and it might be a little skinny, but I've seen smaller warehouse/office buildings.
Still very WIP, and it won't have internal space to fight in, unless I make the roof removable......
Thanks for the responses everyone . It's what I needed to get back to work on stuff.

Not sure what you mean by upside down....unless your talking about the boat picture.
Sometimes you just got to bite the bullet and not scratchbuild it. I know heresy and all that, but have you considered the terminator genesis miniature game figs? Surely they are available in Germany. Either that or you can make your own division of my Angry Servo Skulls Hostile Organic Lifeform Elimination Squads. Well there's no Magos to talk to. They started as servo skulls that were attached to a marine chapter long lost to history. The chapter got wiped out by tyranids, but since the servo skulls were no longer Organic (skulls replaced by carbon fiber and what little brains that were left were either sealed in good enough for the Nids not to notice, or too small even for them to snack on. They had been left silent and alone on the planet for hundreds of years with nothing to do and no outside communications. They all went a bit nutty and began scavenging armor pieces and weapons to defend their home in case the bosses ever returned they wanted to show they continued to do their due diligence. They began hunting down the stragglers of the tyranids that remained behind and then when a ship landed they took to the offensive against the crew. The crew had been rogue traders who decided to loot what they could from the remanants of the planet. Taking over the ship they began a quest to find the remanants of their chapter, but they had even forgotten the name and insignia. It had been a really long time. Anyway the tore across the galaxy fighting anyone and everything they came into contact with. Their limited tech and medical skills coming into play they would induct new initiates after every fight from the corpses, but the memories of the dead were wiped just like their parent chapter had wiped the initiates memories. After hundreds of years they were at more than chapter strength (well over a thousand servo skulls), and they had repaired plenty of marine vehicles from their battles, so they are as well equipped as many other marine chapters. The name came from one of the more crazed "Leaders" who always complained how he worked with a bunch of donkey-caves, but as the original chapter did not allow swearing (strict chaplain core), he always spelled out A.S.S.H.O.L.E.S. One of the newer recruits when caught by an imperial strike team tried to get the information from him as to who and what they were, but just got the abbreviation and the purpose of the servo skulls to hunt down hostile organic life forms (which was one of the chapters last orders given to them before they were wiped off their home world), and the acronym was developed by the strike team. So now reports have circulated throughout the imperium to be on the lookout for all these A.S.S.H.O.L.E.S.

Very nice! Looks like the center o a district worth of buildings!

Your containers look ace, don't go to any expense though, I know money can be tight. The last week has depleted my hobby budget for a while and I even have skipped out of the Mythic Battles Pantheon Kickstarter.

Yeah lots of dust to blow off and get my butt back in gear. Today was a recovery day, worked at church for a few hours, now chilling out before the kids get home. In the last hour I chopped a couple corner pieces up, hopefully not a wasted effort.
Side awning, or even have that side be the front of the building like the old shotgun style buildings.
Or it could be the front of the building.
Either way, the next time I do this I'll make it just a tad thicker so I can disguise the battery(just poster tacked in right now)
I could even make it all a hotel...motel 6....we'll leave the lights on for you.
I think the columns are a bit bare, I'll see if I can't spruce them up either by adding another slightly larger size sleeve at the base or something else. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks Everyone , More thought needed for the lighting to be used in a future building though. In the mean time I chopped up some more building materials.
Created a town fountain, using the same centerpiece as my fantasy version from a few months back.
Also using my Grey MODcubes with the black inserts turned inside out to make cargo crates.
Crates in comparisson to the Dust figure and some toy cars I bought earlier this year.

Thanks Graven, I've seen it and teetered on backing the kickstarter, but in the end it was Mantic and so far the only good experience I had with Mantic was KOW. Even then they up my pledge for that .

Thanks Thraxas , I did not take into account the thickness of the battery pack. You cannot see it from the pics, but it comes down further than the bottom of the roof so it is visible at ground level.

Glad to see you get a bit of a respite, I know you deserve one after the year we've both had.
Well I had an idea.....that's usually when things go bad. I took the remaining middle sections of the corner pieces that I cut down and made a base for a dock door/loading platform.
I attached it to a wall section to make it modular.
Bones Shipping Container up on MODcubes to simulate the height of a 18 wheeler.
1:43 scale car and zombicide zombies for gaming scale.
After I snapped those pictures I added a gutter downspout, a little roof cover and some ballards to the dock. Also added the front light off of a space marine motorcycle over the man door for security reasons.
Now this building needs a roof on it and I think primer can get sprayed when the weather co-Operates.

I have Crane envy . I remember you posting it when you bought it and I tried everywhere nearby to get one cheap with no luck.
Anyway, I stopped by Home Depot to pick stuff up for a home project and grabbed some VCT tiles (1/8" thick vinyl commercial tiles, think back to highschool gym floors). I'm thinking of making my table out of these as base to help fill out the areas that the Tablescapes do not cover, and as possible source materials for parts of the building. They are all a true 1'x1' square and at $0.66 each it's cheap enough to waste. I've never seen anyone use them, but I've considered it alot.

The tile has worked out so far for the roof of the warehouse, and stacking 2 of them makes them the same size as the cityscape tiles streets. Making the sidewalks will be slightly more difficult as cutting them takes some practice, but the lines snap clean if you score the tile well. In the mean time I decided to prime some things.
Shipping container go sprayed blue to easily differentiate from other shipping companies. We will see how this paint/primer works on Bones.
The pump station that I made a long while back using the Quonset huts from dust and tubing.
Pallet shelving, now got to decide if it will be Home Depot orange or Lowes gray.
Warehouse looks a lot nicer now that it's all uniform instead of multi-colored with boat designs on it.

Thanks , it does help the realism for me.
Supply drops from this week.
I picked up the tree pack that Grimdork mentioned in his thread. 21 snow based treed were on sale for $10.74
Also brought home the 14 sides of fire exit lights that I replaced at church. Each light comes with two exit sides and a blank side, since almost all of our signs are against the wall I was able to source 14 of them and some of the arrow covers. There's a transparent red sheet in each one that can be used for scrap plastic sheets.
Also lucked out at Miniaturemarket this morning and showed up as they were putting out new dinged and dented stuff. I grabbed the zombicide ultimate survivor set for $13 and to reach the $25 thresshold to get a spin on the wheel I bought another shipping container and two sets of jersey barriers (4 total). All have been primed now, just waiting for it to dry out.

Yes, even with 40% off coupons there would still be bankruptcy . They opened one the street over from the church I work at, it's hard to not pull in their lot every time. What's worse is it's next to my bank too .
Well inspired by Monty Python , I went in search of a shubbery. What I wound up with was a scrubbery shrubbery. I used the center throw away disk out of green scrubbing/stripping pads from my work and cut them up into well manicured shapes, though I think I need to go thinner yet.
Remaining circle in the background there. Thinking of just making some hedge row type dividers for soft cover and hiding behind.
Also the highway patrol car is new and also in the 1:43 scale size.....and also a pull back toy, but seams that he's not going to catch the van or the sprinter van as this manufacturers pull back has less speed and distance than the other one.

I've been kind of disappointed recently with Miniature markets selection. Most of their daily deals have been board games or clearance things I have had no interest in. They've had a couple items on the shelf in store that I've eyeballed, but nothing really great for a long time.
shasolenzabi wrote:Well, dang, that is gonna grow to be one large warehouse/Industrial park.
Thanks Shaso, hoping to have a good theme for it. I've seen some online items like the cars and trucks that might work with it as well.
Well I took a half hour tonight fully thinking about making another building, but some of my tools have disappeared again. I'll deal with the kids in the morning , but then looking at the old mordheim sprues that have never been touched I decided to build more racking instead. This time it's cantilever style like in the lumber and plumbing aisles at Lowe's or Home Depot.
Added some stuff nearby to the shelves to give a better idea of what it might look like in game terms.

GrimDork wrote:Yeah it's turning into quite the little supply shop.

Yeah I think I've only seen one miniature based one in weeks and that was infinity, so I passed it up.
Inspired by a little coffee shop drive through I decided to chop up more of the mordheim sprues. This will be one of those boutique drive through coffee shops. Something Grounds will be the name I think. Still need a roof.
It's got the gothic vending window
And also has the little extensions out over the car area that don't actually stop the drivers from getting wet .
Now that I'm thinking about it I think I'll call it Midevil Grounds. "Time to get all Midevil on the morning."
Well my car broke down this morning and I threw up a couple times while waiting 2+ hours for AAA to come tow me. I think the transmission broke on it because it was running fine and then I made a turn to go up a hill and it just would not go, engine was still running and I had the heater (thank God as it was below zero).
After I got home I got to spend time on the coffee hut. I think this has been the funnest project I've done in a long time. Hopefully it gets my creative juices going good for a while.
Here is the backdoor of Midevil Grounds. The door actually opens and closes, it came from my scrap bin of Dust Quonset huts.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
A relatively blank side of the building, perfect for the dumpster I made a while back out of a pill box.
The Menu board, hard to see the electric panel next to it.
The business end of the building, Midevil window to serve the piping hot beverages through. Toying with the idea of going over the top and putting a skull on the ballard next to the window, maybe cutting the top off of the skull and hollowing it out to be a tip jar of sorts
A wider view to see the corrugated roof over the drive through window and the Diamond plate main sign on the rood. Also a little vent on top.
So other ideas welcome as to what I could add to it. If i go with the Midevil idea then I need to find some swords, axes or halberds to cross on the wall next to the serving window.
I think I have one or more of the empire halberdiers somewhere that I could make into a statue to go in place of the pallard .

Thanks Grimdork, the medieval ages would have been much more civilized had coffee been more available. I don't drink the stuff, but I know certain people are better equipped to handle the day after a pot of two.
No pics right now , just primed the coffee shop and the cantilever rack, maybe next year will see me painting again.
Just got a call that my car is fixed, blew an axel and bearing. $270 later it's good to go.
Also just got a call that my son probably broke his thumb in gym class playing floor hockey. some other kid chopped his stick, but hit his thumb instead . Times like this that you wish you could kill the other person just once . They still wouldn't learn though.
Also I've complained about Miniaturemarket not having anything good on the Dotd, well I almost bought today's deal. "The Others" for $55.00, I dropped my Kickstarter pledge on it due to funds and the fact that I'm not a huge tentacle horror fan, but I really liked the look of some of the KS exclusives. I stopped buy thinking of buying it, even to the point of having them bring out a copy to look at it, but I still walked away empty handed . I got a bit of a bonus from church and thought about picking up one of the 6 other copies of Aliens vs Preadator board game that they have for 1/2 off (plastic wrappers torn), but decided to still hold off as i have one box still untouched tucked away with a power loader. Thinking about that though I think I have my next building design for main street USA.......a comic book/game store. I could make statues out if the aliens, predators and colonial marines , or maybe do a whole wax museum set up and leave the statue idea for a space marine outside a scale GW store . What's your vote?

A stick to the face you say.......that explains it , as for the tentacle horror stuff I'm not a huge fan of it, or the anime representation either . Though I have always wanted an aquatic army with squid monsters and crab men, so tentacles might happen eventually.

Interesting article, almost made me start drinking coffee right away.
Did more chopping and cutting today. I know I intended on making a comic shop or wax museum, but I think this will be some sort of retail outlet. Fills out a full 1' square tile.
Not sure what to make it, maybe just a clothing store or thrift shop.
The cardstock roof is removable so I might later finish the interior of it as well. Also I will add "glass" windows from blister pack packaging.
Space around back for the owner to park or receive deliveries. I added a non-working door behind where the van is parked after the picture was taken.
Everything but the roof has since been primed now.
Next up I think I'll go vertical again and do a high rise apartment. Maybe only 3 floors, but who knows. The thing is I don't want to make a stairwell that large, so it might not even be shown. Also the back half I need to make it so the wall can be removed and possibly allow internal movement. Still planning it out though. Also should I make the ground floor a business and the apartments more of studio loft style?

Well okay
Center entrance, figure a shop on both sides of the door with a back stairwell or elevator.
Sides of the building, both are the same.
The split, back part comes off to be able to use the inside, which will get dressed later.
I didnt like the back, so I gave it more windows as I figure a high priced loft apartment should have more natural light.

Thanks Scraper , I cut the locking bits off of the pieces so they just slot together, so if needed in gameplay we could open up the building and just take the back half off.
Well I wanted to see what this progress has earned me, so I set up the table with some basic layout.
So left to right in the foreground. Soccer mom in the VW van grabbing a pick me up at the coffee shop. A contractor in his SUV loading up at the plumbing supply house. A little round about park with fountain, I have some picnic tables somewhere to make the park scene more elaborate. Then a strip mall with loading area, maybe a sandwich shop to grab something to eat at before walking to the park.
Other side view, bad lighting
Night time....also known as worse lighting, but you can make out the police car behind the Jersey barriers which are blocking office street that is damaged from (alien incident, super hero battle, plane crash, my son passing gas ). Two shipping containers holding tools and supplies for repair work soon to happen. Then the store/loft apartments.
Another directional view.
More to come. Ideas and criticisms are always welcomed.

Kids have Minecraft and 7-8 other games they like on there. My son is playing some Ancient Greece version of minecraft and did me proud by asking "isn't that the Parthenon?" Then went to the Chinese mythology game . I never paid much attention to minecraft either.
Dropped by Miniaturemarket yesterday and grabbed the last of the Alkemy figs they had on the dinged shelves, they've been taunting me over a year now. 15 more Asian themed archers and speartroops as well as 4more Asian wizards and 8 more figs for my herd/beast army.
Happy New Years to everyone

Just worked my way through your latest scenery frenzy. An outstanding set of buildings and such. Your table is going to look amazing. I just realised how long it's been since you posted. Hopefully it's just because of the XBone distracting you... I've been spending a bit of time on mine lately and it's been a nice change.

I LIVE!
Sorry for the absence, but I have been dealing with stuff. Three deaths in the family in short order, one being my wife's Grandfather, which means we've been dealing with Grandma almost daily for the last 5 months.
I can't promise that I'll be back to doing anything major anytime soon, but I haven't been completely idle either.
Today I picked up a pack of tentacle tokens from "the Others" boardgame. 60 of them for $12. They are half the size I wanted, but they will be good chaos bits.
Got to run. More later.
Theo.

I feel more kicked than kicking, but I need some life relief, so I'll be trying to grab minutes here and there.

Thank You , need all the prayers I can get.
I wish the tentacles were larger, and that all 60 weren't the same pose, but at $0.20 each I guess I shouldn't complain. They are meant as corruption tokens for the board game "the Others: seven deadly sins". It's a tentacle horror game, which I was going to back on Kickstarter since it's made by the same company CMON that does zombicide, but I'm not a tentacle horror person. Still I thought if they were large enough I could give them hand weapons or spears and make a demon unit out of them for Kings of War. No luck .
Anyway, most of my free time I've had has been wasted on playing bloodbowl on our new Xbox one. I love that game and even bought the new boardgame version, which had me painting a bit too. I'll try and do more pics later.

Theo, I'm very sorry to hear about the losses in your family.
Not a tentacle horror person?... Gasp... Me neither, to be honest. The tentacle tokens look generically useful though.
Careful with that Xbox stuff, you'll burn out your retinas and give yourself Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I hear the new bloodbowl plastic minis are pretty nice though. Should be fun to paint.

Well, I don't know what to say, so I'll change the subject...
I did back The Others, mainly for the minis. Some of the monsters could be used as Chaos gribblies and some of the heroes could be used in modern games. I say "some" because the core box heroes include a vampire, werewolf, and a... whatever Rose is.

Sorry to hear about the difficult time your family is undergoing. Good on you all for rallying around Grandma in her time of need.
I really like what you are doing with the Dust Tenement buildings. I'm going to have to snag some from Miniature Market soon.
Gotta love spinning the 'loot wheel' after you pick stuff up from them. I seem to always get free DvDs - got The Departed last time.

They got rid of the wheel again . I was in there Monday, but it's now an app on the system so after checkout you get to spin it no matter how much you spent. I spent $12 and got a bonus40 points . I almost bought more of the dust buildings during their spring cleaning sale, but too many kickstarters coming up to buy more of the buildings.

Well it's harder getting back into the swing of things than I remember. But since it is raining nuts outside I decided to do the hardest thing any of us can do.......clear the deck . I haven't been able to sit at my painting desk in over a year because it was coated in so much FAILED PROJECT, so I grabbed an empty box and started to unceremoniously wipe stuff off the desk and into the box. Some breakage occurred, but since I haven't messed with it in so long I decided it didn't matter. The result....
For those who saw my old paint collection, do not worry, they are upstairs in three boxes(space marine drop pod boxes I believe, and eventually they will return downstairs to join their brothers.
Now onto the new hotness
Some recent scores on the scavenging front.
I found 16 of these little plastic bits, 3 3/8" long 1/2 wide and the tubes are 1/8" wide. I figure they might make for some nice guard rails, or pipes in Necromunda. Could also make a nice twin autocannon for a marine dreadnought, I'll have to check the size.
Also found about 4' of this plastic which I think is for old fashioned notebook binding.
Looks a little too short for jersey barriers, but the top hollow part is just a little wider than the thickness of the cardstock tiles used by dust tactics and zombicide. That will help with making another texture for my buildings in the future.
The opening on the bottom of the plastic piece is just large enough for the red pipe parts to fit inside loosely too.

Thanks , always looking for ideas.
Well delays hit with more storms here and basement flooded again . I'm at work now, but tomorrow will see my work area cleaned out again and hopefully no major loses. I'm kind of worried that I may have moved my sets of zombicide off of the shelves and right onto the floor where the water was coming from. That will be sad if true. I've been toying with the idea of rearranging the basement again, so this may have made my decision easier. I'll see tomorrow.

St. Louis has had hard rain the last three days, just tropical torrential rain, not common at all.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Sorry to hear that, hope the damage isn't too bad!
From what I saw when I got home last night it's nowhere near as bad as it was last time, and zombicide was not affected
angelofvengeance wrote:How annoying! Hope the losses are minimal. Is there anywhere above ground you could do your hobby stuff? Think this must be the 2nd time you've been hit by flooding :(
Our basement is not "finished" I bought some cheap carpet that I just rolled out on the floor when we moved in a few years ago just to keep my delicate toes from getting cold . Theirs some wet cardboard boxes that I had laying on the floor, but so far nothing tragic. This is the second time in three years that this has happened. 2015 had major storms in a short time just like now, and water levels are going to be higher this year they said. It's just the shear amount of water that fell in a short time that is causing massive flooding. My house is around 600' above sea level and is in no risk of flooding, it's just excess water from the downpours and the hydrostatic pressure of the water in my yard pushing the water through the concrete of our basement.

Well rain delay is somewhat over. Plus the Miniaturemarket.com deal of the day was a copy of the others: gluttony expansion.
Zombicide figures and angry servo skull hostile organic lifeform eliminator (the acronym) for scale purposes.
Building in behind is something I've been messing around with in the last few weeks.

Well, quick updates, I haven't posted these pics yet, but it's the little bits I've worked on over the last few months.
Bloodbowl
Humans
Better pic of ogre
Chaos
Rotters
Chaos beastmen
Also messing around with some dead zone terrain for general use.
Overhead industrial pipeline
Zombies for scale (big tentacle thing will most likely become my bloodbowl nurgle rotters beast .
Pillars without pipes for better lighting
Worst problem is the plastic is some weird type that even superglue will not adhere to. I've tried sanding it and even tried plastic glue and gorilla glue to no avail . So the join keeps breaking. I think I'll wind up running wire or some type of screw through it all to hold it together.
Thoughts.....ideas?
Also I'm thinking of buying into Beyond the Gates of Antares (I've rewatched/listened to all of Star Trek the next generation series in the last month or so, and the concord are calling to me. I remember someone on here posting some awesome purple and yellow? Concord figs, but that's all I've seen and there is nothing in the lower bowels of dakkadakka that I could easily find.
I'm not getting any gaming in as my brother in law is moving to Texas because of his wife's job . Also too busy looking for daytime employment so I can have evenings off with my family (and maybe an occasional game night at the local store GameNite .

Looking great Theo, Good to see you kicking about.
Bloodbowl teams looking great, I always see conversion possibilities. Never really went for the game.
Pipes are looking spot on. Is it the pipe clip plastic that is a problem. Try sprinkling bi-carb on superglue, the heat from the chemical reaction may make a difference. Also try pvc pipe glue. Also could try Bostik contact adhesive as it does not care if the surface is porous. Also could just go with hot glue, if you have roughed up the surface it may hold enough.
Good luck.

Good show, Theo.
To add to what Cam' says: Pinning of one form or another would be a good thing to do. With the size of it and all the mass up top, any glue join could be easily broken. Also consider epoxy glue for when you want something to remain glued; superglue can be a bit brittle for some applications.
30672
Post by: Theophony
Thanks Dr. H and Cam
I have some epoxy stuff at home somewhere, displaced from the water in the basement, but I will hunt it down. It will probably get pinned also just fore overkill (There's no such thing as overkill, just underbaked.-officer Axley )
Bloodbowl is still one of my all time favorite games, I just really HATE the look of the current dwarf team, so I stripped my old dwarf metals and have begun reprinting them. Hopefully I'll have something to show this week.

CommissarKhaine wrote:Looking good! For th epipes, PVC glue as was said above, or screws - unless you plan to run actual fluids through there
The screws would have to be really small to attach the clamps to the pillars, and shouldn't affect the pipes at all. The pipes themselves just snap into the clips no problem and I want them free.
So took about an hour and started to knock this bit up.
Part of a pumping station, made from one of the used printer cartridges from church.
The top of the cartridge has plenty of nice texture.
Not sure how I want to finish the center/top. Either large fan blade or just cap it off and maybe put a hatch on it of some kind. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks everyone, it feels good to be back into the swing of building.
I decided to try and build a lookout post, inspired by the stancion building produced for Gates of Antares. I feel really drawn to start that game, but the investment seems too large right now.
Once again built using dead zone building parts. I plan on adding a rooftop to it as some point.
Floor door that goes down to a lower level via a ladder.
So For Gates of Antares I am considering buying the Xilos Starter set.
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/wga-start-01.html
It has a mix of both Concord troops and the Gahr
If I wait then they might get the Kar'A expanse which has Concord and Algoryn, I think I prefer the first as the Gahr are not as "human", plus fighting bots
30672
Post by: Theophony
Another day another terrain piece.....it won't become a habit I can assure you
The crossing.
Using more deadzone sprues. Have I mentioned Mantic recently. I need a slew of the 135 degree connectors, but they don't sell them except in their full battlezone sets I've emailed them but I'm not expecting much.
I imagine this being a center piece for a necromunda prisoner swap with either a toxic sludge creek underneath it, or ..........
A wall of pipes that block views for shooting. Of course since buildings would be around you could have your crack shooters set up to keep an eye on your opponent and make sure no trickery is afoot.

 Dave said Hard Points
Sorry, had a beavis and butthead moment , just spent over an hour and talking to 11-12 people(not sure if number 7qualifies) trying to deal with some medical bills .
Hard cover definitely, I think it would be a great bastion for arbiters to hold against 4-6 gangs as a fun scenario.
angelofvengeance wrote:Might have to steal that mate... looks awesome!
Steal away, I believe anything on this here intranet thingy if free for the taking. Otherwise I'm going to own someone for some royalties
Well I finally decided to instead of getting off the pot so to speak.
$95 after tax through ye olde Miniaturemarket.com
Not as big of a box as a GW starter, but it is solid especially since it comes with a 290 page full color rulebook inside of it .
As of right now I'm torn with how to proceed. I'm thinking of starting a new blog here as this one is so jumbled. I've seen some much better organized blogs here and I'd like to work on quality over everything else. If I do change things up and start a new log I'll post it here before assigning this blog to oblivion, or keeping this for all the random that keeps popping up in my head.
Speaking of random I just noticed some new orc emojis here on dakkadakka

Right now the Ghar are calling me more, but I'm sure I'll probably get a faction that's not in the set. When they ran the Kickstarter I laughed at the boromites, but they look so much better all fleshed out now. Just wish they were plastic.
Well as I eluded to earlier, I have a new thread https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/726042.page#9368674
