Yeah thats an impressive amount of zombies you've done so far, not many left now unless you pick up some more

Yes I would like some more. But I must pace myself.
The Zombicide Black Plague knight level pledge $150, will give me 195 models to paint
I might do a double on it
I also already have dungeon saga coming, and Blood RAGE (around 100 figs)
And KOW2 coming which will only have the $50 pledge level stuff (1 figure I think)

Also trying not to back Conan if they send me the PM.

Also my MODcubes will be here SOON

While I'd like more, I think I can possibly attack the basement and garage of shame

I'm really tempted by the Conan pledge, but then again there's a bunch of duplicates, a variety of Conans and just a few huge pieces that look great. Though not much in the way of crossover with the Zombicide stuff. Maybe I'll just stick to the one knight level pledge for Zombicide Black Plague and then invest my other funds into more of the contemporary Zombicide stuff. I still need prison outbreak and Rue Morgue.

So many painted models for someone who said "I'm not back!".

Would be an interesting though probably impossible task to see parade day, Shas v's Theo. The rate you are going you can probably give his army a run for its money with just the zombies.

Ehh, they just need to implement some scale-reference guides in the photos and point the models opposite the other guy so you can edit the photos to make them opposing

Okay so last night at work I was jonesing for zombies....not a good thing at a hospital. Well anyway when I got home and everyone was asleep I decided to get a group shot. And current count.
Spoiler:

So that's 137 zombies of all different shapes and sizes on my desk there that are painted and have been toned.

Not in photo are 35 more needing paint, 2 of which were done after the photo, 28 survivors and their zombivor alternates, and an additional 8 figures that are helpers (forget their game titles) 2 of which are painted and ) are not.

So a month and a half lead to 167 painted figures. Once the remaining ones get completed then they will all get matte sealed and then there will be Blood for the Blood God and Nurgle's rot added. Also basing will need to be sorted out as well. As of right now I'm very happy with my progress I didn't think I had passed the 100 goal, turns out I crushed it. Might need a celebratory purchase of more zombies for a reward.

Well graven, your making progress in the family growing side

Vik, I am really chugged at the numbers Ive done.

And then there's more.

) more zombies go shoot up later.

And then There's this

I have been kicking around this idea for a while now. The boards are one piece and have magnets on the back. The. There's an inside crossbar that also has magnets on it. That allows the boards to be removed and replaced over and over. When the game is played I'll be able to show movement and open doors(windows) in three dimensions.

genius...and also telepathic as that was the first idea i had when seeing the nailed up board... "would be cool to have the board being able to taken off, either due to not being there yet or getting smashed down by Z´s..." and then you already delivered ^^

by the way... we currently watch izombie on TV... anybody has thoughts about that show?

@vik, I'll have to check that show out, if it's available on Netflix. Currently rewatching supernatural, or listening to it while painting, doing school work and stuff.
@giraffex,it might be a horde, but we keep running out of zombie models for the long games. And when you run out of a certain type then all the models on the board of that type get an extra action phase.

So I painted four more today, but decided to do more work on the terrain. So I made a few more magnetic window barricades, and then got an idea for a commercial roll up door (for the car garage board). I think I can make it functional , just no motor.

Here's the start of the garage door, it's hard to tell but it has been toned. Also a boarded up doorway as well.

Looking good. I'm glad I don't live so close to MM.

I like supernatural and feel that all seasons have something to offer, but I probably liked the earlier seasons better.

Post by: Viktor von Domm

funnily supernatural never did it for me... poster boy actors...and this "we kill this bad boy demon...all seems quiet and then this next super demon scheme appears..."

the rolled up garage door could be quite an easier feat when you use one of these sushi rolling mats... cut up to seize...

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/24 21:07:47

Post by: Theophony

@vik, I used a bunch of cheap wooden skewers that I had left over and cut them the same size. I thought about using plastic corrugated pieces, but if I can pull off the roll up then I'll be really happy.
@grimdork, I like the goofiness of the show the most. Especially the episode when they travel to an alternate dimension where they are the actors of the supernatural TV show. Especially like the part where misha Collins is tweeting his fans (his Mishamigos )

Class tonight, will try and get some painting done afterwards depending on how late we go. Probably really late because of last weeks class getting cancelled.

I thought it was pretty funny when that prophet guy was writing their lives as books and they had hardcore dedicated fans cosplaying them, that and the bromance fan fiction

Post by: Theophony

There are so many great little bits hidden as well. One of the more recent episodes I watched (season7) they are tracking down cursed items and they ask a curator in a museum about something. He starts rambling on about stuff and shows the. A picture of two guys who were "brothers" with the last name Campbell (their maternal grandparents name). The curator lets them know that they weren't really brothers, but lovers who hid their true lives by saying they were "brothers". They keep that innuendo going the entire series.

Also them writing in bobby singer (the director) as a main character

But Chuck the prophet is great, along with his monologues. I think the best is when he tells the story of their Impala.

And the genius of coming up with a Leviathan named Dick . Endless laughs.

Its a show you can't take too seriously after oh, the 5th season or so, but it was always entertaining.

I'm more a fan of the Buffy mentality though, the Supernatural all things that aren't human are totally evil and must die no matter the circumstances thing gets a bit tired after awhile, and you miss out on cool monster characters like Spike and others.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/25 04:11:00

Post by: Theophony

There were a few episodes when they let the "evil" things live, but not many.

Well home from school, kids and wife asleep. So back to the garage door.

In down position with four newly painted zombies trying to get in.

Door open, billy bob should have checked before opening.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/25 04:21:46

Door is nice.

Sam let that Asian monster live and Dean cut her head off not 10 minutes later in the same episode lol.

But he did get a bit more lax after Benny, much to Sam's chagrin.

May paint some zombies soon myself, though I'll have to clean them up and glue them together first...

I almost jumped on the mantic future zombie bundle from the latest kickstarter. 80 zombies for $45, but then I had heard about all the cleanup.

Not much done today as kids are back to school so I have to wait for them to get on the bus before I leave to work at church, kind of shoots me in the foot to try and get anything done during the week.

I had school last night, last class for the degree , I could take four or five more and get a second bachelors though. But will most likely just go for my masters in Business administration instead. The teacher looked frazzled, I guess being a cpa and the bad day at the stock market didn't help.

No more cleanup than regular hard plastic models, but that is a not in significant amount.

The other reason was there's no Zombicide: Space Derelict game , that might be more of the reason....and I'm just frustrated with them having KOW2 stuff in stores in England before all the backers have them. Sure they can blame it on Blaine, but that's their own fault.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/26 01:55:58

Post by: GrimDork

I suppose such a thing irks me a little, but at the same time I don't really care too much. Often it's a result of backers having to wait to get the whole shebang, but the lion's share of it comes early. It's just that the very first, usually main line items, are often done sooner and could be in the wilds of retail making them money. But it would cost them (or the backers) more money to ship out that small part of the completed rewards separately.

It is not..ideal.. but I kind of understand it mechanically. I usually only back projects to which I have a reasonable reserve of goodwill anyway (hence I pulled my ME pledge). Mars attacks was kind of like this, the main game was hitting retail kind of when people were getting it, I think... but when we got our packages we were getting stuff that's just recently been released into the wild.

I'll have an exam for this class at the end, but no paper to write. Also it turns out I've been piddling around so much with my classes (not bothering with getting an advisor to help me), that I could take a few more classes and grab a second degree , so school might not be done anytime soon. Though I might wait a year before either persuing that or a masters degree. Up early due to noisy family.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/26 11:43:10

Post by: Viktor von Domm

what would be a good match for the possible second degree? here we have business and tech, business and law, and business and IT...and how much will each effect your current career? i mean, how soon can you quit mobbing floors and start mobbing peeps

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/26 21:17:58

Post by: GrimDork

IT seems like a good secondary for a lot of stuff, although more often than not it seems like people just fall into it without degrees (while my own CS degree sits and rots with no job to show for it ).

What was the major, business management or something? Law seems like more school on average than most. If you like that hospital you could get a nursing degree and administer them Although... nursing would probably have too many extra classes you haven't taken. If you're just picking off the last few classes of something it'll probably have to be generic like Math or what have you.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/26 23:03:31

Post by: Theophony

The B.A. Is in Business Administration, I was thinking of taking some more law classes as at one time I was going for business law, but got side tracked. The law classes would probably get me into corporate quicker, as they eat that stuff up. The hospital industry is the second most regulated industry in the U.S. The only other industry more regulated is the nuclear power industry.

I never could get into IT work. Most of my friends from high school did the IT route, ones in the silicone valley, one works from home, another works for the local power company and one was a lead on the Enterprise rent a car website redesign years ago. I just enjoy the physical work too much to sit behind a desk all day. Plus I start to doze off if I'm sitting too long.

@Dr. H, thanks, practical and easy, how I like my women too

Well did some painting of zombies

Also knocked out two more boarded up window sets

The stuff on the one window is supposed to be part of a curtain that has blown out between the boards. It's just some gauze hit with the same tone as the zombies.

@grimdork, thanks
@Vik, I'm trying to think of some more hold out things to do, but drawing a blank.

Too much going on today and tomorrow for any major progress. Saturday night we have a memorial service at church for a former attendee. He was 20 years old and died in a motorcycle accident last week. I happened to be driving home from working at church after the hospital (was around 1:30a.m. And the police were blocking off the road, luckily it was just after my exit, so I didn't see anything. He and a group of other motorcyclists were "having fun" and then someone in front of him hit the brakes, he hit his but went over the handle bars of the bike hitting the street, and then was struck by another car. 9 witnesses and they all had very different stories from each other.

He donated all his organs, but now a week later the mom wants to go see the body. We're trying to convince her not to go. Even without the injuries, just the body without the organs is going to be scary.

Sorry for sharing that, it's just been on my mind a lot the past few days. He and his family attended my church before we started there, so I didn't know him, my wife however was one of his teachers in high school, so she is really torn up about it all.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/08/28 07:54:43

Post by: Viktor von Domm

Well, there is a saying here...motorcyclists are kidney donners...I too think riding by bike is the coolest thing, but I know I would die a horrible death if I ever try...you have no protection even when wearing protection....and I agree, it wouldn't be good for his mum to see him in this current state...it would traumatize her even further...hopefully it was quick for him, and she should remember him in his best condition...

As for the Windows...you've been very thorough with the first ones...make some that look like they're bound to be broken down...and then not wooden barred windows but with bars? Granny grating or mesh? Also just broken window panes would be cool...

@AOV, I think it will help sell the fantasy, but it does limit the floor space
@Vik, I've got some ideas for windows and bars, mostly stolen from Red Harvest and Dsteingass.

Well time to paint/model, stopped by MM on the way home
$6 later I picked up 2 mantic models, the ogre general and a funky football playing tentacled alien named John Doe.

Couldn't pass that up.

Already assembled and now drying after being primed.

Also grabbed these out of the trash at church

The music pastor changed out his strings on some guitars. Never saw neon green ones before, now I don't need to paint the plasma coils.

Damn. A dollar for that ogre? Those are beefy minis, grats, what a steal

I'm sorely tempted to swing by MM on the 19th coming up to get trashed at X-wing again, and seeing such clearance buys makes it even harder to resist. The wife's extreme disfavor after leaving her for probably at least 8 hours alone with the kids on a saturday (and also taking the better car with better car seat placement) may put a kibosh on that trip though

@vik, they are still metal, just neon green, I think it came off of a guitar he was given from a teenager.
@grimdork, it takes a lot of digging to find anything good like that, but I stop by enough (2-3 times a week), most of the time I leave empty handed though.

@Azazelx, thanks, and they are great fun to paint up. 30 or so more to do the. I can start thinking about the bases, matte finish and blood.
@Grimdork, I'm with you on the ew! I hope nobody came here looking for that.

Tonight was a really rough night at the hospital. Call offs, everything that could go wrong did, and the old crazy guy who kept punching and scratching nurses. We finally had to restrain him so he wouldn't hurt himself or anyone else. He was not safe to walk around on his own as he was dizzy from meds, but he kept trying to get to the stairwells .

Got home and my daughter was still up and crying and saying she wants to go home. Once she woke up enough I told her she was home and then she shrugged her shoulders and went back to her bed and fell right asleep. I'm just hoping it's not a twin thing as her twin brother is sleeping over at a friends house.

Everyone else is sound asleep so I think I might get a bit of painting done. I also might dig out some other goodies to paint up as I think I have a neat idea for some underused models.

Oh and I've saved up some pennies, so I hope the kickstarter pledgemanager for ZBP opens soon like they said. double King me please. I need 400 models to paint for next year.

great now my thread will be eternally linked with zombie porn.

The theory behind some of the VIP personalities is that they are people who have "given up" and dressed up silly as to stand out amongst the rest of the undead. I could imagine the z-apocalypse breaking out on Halloween and people going trick or treating wearing the suits, then getting attacked and turning.

Also I want them to make a sequel to the dog companion pack with a wiener dog in a wiener dog suit.

Lawns mown, kitchen has had every cabinet emptied and rearranged, 10+ loads of laundry and the floors have been vacuumed. I'm tired, still have the memorial service to go to and then the clean up as well afterwards. Kids have been wanting to play Zombicide as well, but that will have to wait till after church tomorrow as they were cleaning rooms this morning.

Last night I got some basecoating done on the butcher zombies and the skins done on the nurse zombies as well. Kept dozing off while trying to finish them.

I stayed at home, feel a little bad about it, but never met him or his family and I didn't want to get dressed up and then need to change before cleaning the church. My son Stayed home too, he would have been bored and been more trouble than reslectful there. So we played some Zombicide. I didn't run out of painted models for the first time , even with a spawning turn that had 30+ zombies show up.

At 43 kills you are in the red zone and stop counting. Unless you play with ultrared rules where you start at 0 again, which we did, and my son got the perfect weapon with his actor Julian. He got the NICO special, a sniper rifle with good range, and set up in the perfect spot on the board. He went triple ultra red (killed more than 120 zombies by himself), and held our position just fine. In one turn he mowed down 20 zombies alone .

We completed the mission (a supply run) and escaped with no one injured. Well one of my guys was injured once but the other player I was using healed him back up a few turns later.

Made dinner and going to eat before going to church. See you all later.

So service was packed last night. Our church can comfortably sit 400, we think we were between 5-600. Standing room only. No strife during service even though the parents have been bitterly divorced for a few years now and could not come to agreement on any of the ceremony plans, but both behaved. The father supposedly left right after service while about 300 people stayed for refreshments. I showed up at 7:00 and began cleaning around everyone at 7:30. The last of the family left after 9:00 and I was able to really begin cleaning then. Got done around 10:30, honestly I could have cleaned for another 1.5 hours, but figured it was "good enough" at that point and I was worn out.

The only draw back of the night was when people were leaving some of his motorcycle/car friends started doing donuts and burn outs in the parking lot as well as having a car horn symphony . One of the church elders and I went out and told them to polity knock it off because a few of the family were upset. Not only was it the gang he was with, but the other gang that was part of the "accident" we're there as well and everyone was measuring their....skid marks. It was pretty tense and there was a lot of smoking on the parking lot, I'm not sure if all of it was cigarettes or not , but all in all everything ended well.

Bought the wife a chrome book today and am currently sitting watching my oldest take the last four hours to write less than a page of homework. We laugh about ADD and ADHD here with our hobbies, but it's a real struggle to get through a 30 minute homework assignment most nights.

Zack and I played Zombicide for about two hours. I'd take pictures, but the turns really move to fast (5-7minutes) compared to tabletop battles which last forever. It would be like 50 turns to a game and the battle reports I was trying to write take too long to shorthand that it really slows down the game. Think of playing Monopoly and writing out a battle report for it

We lost the game by the way..... Because we ran out of regular walkers....yes there were about 90 walkers on the board and the last spawn site spawned one more walker than we had . I seriously thought about running downstairs to get one that was mostly painted, but was ready to be done honestly.

Thanks for the support guys , I have been overdoing it a bit lately with how much I have on my plate. I hope a good night sleep and a day off from family and work tomorrow help out. Still have plenty of school work to do though...and zombies to paint

Sleep is for the weak. and for class getting ready to go there now

Test would have been better if I had a financial calculator , forgot to download it and it was a timed quiz....

Well with my free time I decided a parade was in order

From closest to furthest. Survivors, Zombivors, fatties and abominations, runners, walkers and the VIP.

Top down view, gonna need more guns.

Side view, can also see the unfinished people as well.

And the unfinished figures
Closest are companions, last 4 VIP then 3 fatties, 10 walkers, and a solo runner in the back.

188 completed and 24 still to go. Not bad. I'm wondering if I'll bother with matte varnish and blood. They look nice and cartoony now.

@Aov, thanks. Painting through them all has t really been a chore either, just many quick sessions where I try to do 5 really quick. There were days of 20+, but mainly just constant 5 model days.

Well I woke up earlier than usual to find my kids up already as well. I didn't even make it down the steps before the kids asked if we could play Zombicide before school. They already ate, had their lunches packed and were dressed to go out the door and we had about an hour and a half so we got in a quick game. Only one of our 6 survivors died , poor Julien. He sees the board every game as he's so useful, but I always get a laugh out of him as more often than not it just seems when he searches he finds: pans, water, rice and canned food. So he has become chef Julien to me . When he dies I can just hear the other survivors having to tell their friends when they return how Julien got torn apart, then someone snickers and says "you might say Julien got Juliened ".

It's a really fun Game to play, simple mechanics (you can play solo too), and there's different skill levels so you can choose easy or hard missions. All the rules are free to read.http://zombicide.com/en/gamerules, but you'd need to get the set to get the cards, boards and figs. I mainly use the season 1 only rules, but it's easy to integrate the others as all you need are the other cards.

I painted the last VIP zombies last night, pics later.

Just tell her your securing the perimeter from a possible zombie apocalypse, and that you've sent the boys on a supply run so you have to make sure the fenceline is holding and open the gate for when they approach. You can't leave them hanging outside especially with the Govenor on the loose and the herd sizes lately . If she doesn't walk away from that (most likely to call for some helpers with white coats), then slowly turn back towards the window and mumble something about reinforcing the north wall

Well here's the three companions I finished earlier

A gunman and two searchers.

The gunmanyou can spend one of your actions to have him shoot a pistol, or he grants you a bonus with your shooting. The searcher helps you find stuff when you search. We haven't started using those rules yet. Some missions are to go into town and find refugees (these companions) and escape with them.

Well I'm still looking for a good resource for Zombicide questions. I've asked a few here on Dakkadakka and gotten answers, and found a few out on boardgamegeeks.com as well, but some questions keep popping up. Just found a few answers this morning, so I think we might see some changes to which characters get used. We were in such a hurry to get playing that we skipped some rules questions, and went with rule of cool. Also we have put a temporary ban on sewer lid zombies, they were just popping up too much.

Thanks Giraffex

Just wait till the Black Plague hits. I think I've decided (probably change 3-4 more times) to go double knight pledge. That means roughly 400 figures or double what you see on the parade grounds . That might be overdoing it a little, so that's why I keep he hawing with my pledge. It will get me a boat load of duplicates that I don't need (double heroes), but I could paint the second set as zombivors. It also gets me extra cards, more board tiles, dice and all the king pledge exclusives, which may or may not be sold to help finance future plans. I think my side project to not get burned out will be to pick one of the missions from Black Plague and create the walls of the castle to play on.

@Shaso, we saw how well that turned out in the walking dead
@Vik, I think I misspoke, it's a secret project that might not be secret by the end of this page. I will need some of your input specifically though.
@Graven, the secret to surviving the zombie apocalypse is to not let anyone catch up to you.

Okay so this months painting competition is started and the theme is "don't tell me the odds" so I figure what has worse odds than fighting in a zombie apocalypse? But all my survivors are painted and I only have a few zombies left to paint up....,good thing there's the option of overcompensating . So my plan is to have my new zombie killing faction going in and taking care of business.

Enter the Totenkopf.

Not saying all 20 will make it to the scene, but I need to come up with a good idea of colors as I want to stay away from the old German grey or WWII camp schemes.

In the ironcore universe the Germans escape earth which is racked by plague after excessive use of the gate technology. I'm taking liberties and making the plague a zombie apocalypse, and the Totenkopf are sent into a town to deal with an outbreak. Buttery commissar said I could use my zombies more as backdrop/terrain, so that just might be what occurs. If not, then we will have the closing of the apocalypse with all the troopers I make finishing off the last zombie.....for now

What I need are some ideas as to what colors the Totenkopf should be. I'm leaning more towards a bone white to the uniforms with the crosses being black. I see it as both a symbol of purity as these guys will be purifying an infected town, and also as a nod to the color of bone for the "Death's Head". I'm more than willing to listen to any other ideas thrown out there though.

funny you should mention this...i have for the terrain comp made a scout...will show you this soon...he is in camo... in fact it is a bundeswehr camo...the eisenkern troops would probably look quite good in that

while i just read further about your ideas (nrtfm) ...well...white...erm...something to go with their KKK shrouds?...erm....what could work in terms of totenkopf...well...black...like the sturmstaffel...that could be a fitting scheme to the theme...(the NS theme tho), but in terms of zombi infestations... well...any biohazard scheme like orange or yellow could work, because any "reaction" team would wear colours that easily show scratches, wounds and anyy bodily fluids that could be from Z´s...
just my 2c´s here...^^

but the more you pour fluff over me the more ideas i´d be able to come up with^^

also...i am still needing to take those pics... as i have some blisters worth of Men in Black...as a possible Anti Zombie Agency...

Hmm... those Eisenkern guys may look pretty sweet in bone colors. I dig it. Now that people are doing aliens AND zombies.. I may just have to go with MARTIANS instead

Why not add a high visibility color to them? I doubt zombies care about camo, so for this, bright colors can work. That way the teams can easily spot each other in a chaotic urban setting and survivors will be able to spot them as well. An orange or bright red could look good.

That's one impressive Zombie Horde!

As for the totenkopf, the brown boots and gloves combined with the bone armour gives a "desert fighters" vibe to them, since clothing fades bigtime in the desert due to the sun.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/03 21:39:05

Post by: GrimDork

I like the brown leather stuff, works for me. Spot color might not hurt, or even some kind of logo somewhere.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/04 05:21:08

Post by: Theophony

@graven, Thanks, but i am trying to distance myself from Nazi Germany AND Star Wars, even though the armor could go either way very easily.
@Vik, I think I'm going to keep the leather brown as going Black will be more overpowering with the soft armor and pipes already dark grey.
@Barzam, I was thinking of doing an All orange figure.....If I have time tomorrow I will test it out, but I think I might just throw some Orange on this guy on the reinforced armor panels.
@Azazelx, Good point on the Browns and fading, I cant remember all the Eisenkern faction info, but I believe the section of space they carved out for themselves is not very hospitable for growing food, so a desert sort of scheme might be common place.
@Grimdork, So spot color might wind up being Orange......either that or maybe Ill come up with my own german flag design that can be done on the shoulder guards, thigh armor and possibly kneecap.

I have never paid too much attention to the Painting blogs as I am not a good painter, but this competition I think is helping me come up with a way to kill off some of my old backlog, and giving me something to do between waiting for kickstarter stuff to arrive. Especially the stuff from that lazy RITides guy who is using the excuse of his wife having a baby as a reason to delay shipping . If you see him lurking around anywhere you might want to wish him well,,,,,,no more sleep for you mister

Bwahaha, what with a newborn myself (and a needy, whiney one this time around...) I feel for him.

Orange might do. Flag would also work.

I like the painting comp as a distraction as well, though, sometimes getting into those quashes my creativity as I'm 'forced' to spend hobby time in a particular direction. It's a tricky balance.

What quashes my creativity is seeing everyone else who is better than me. Honestly why I haven't done the terrain competition in a long time. I know it's supposed to get me to stretch my limits, but it hasn't done that for me ...well off to my potty party.

Bad Theo You shouldn't compare yourself to others and think "what's the point of trying". If everyone thought like that we wouldn't get anywhere; why do the chaps at the back of the grid in every racing formula bother to turn up, or the "nobodies" in lane 1 and 8 of the 100m sprint...
Mr Bolt will win the race and get the headlines (and potentially get run over by a camera man), but Mr lane 8 may set a personal best; he wouldn't do that if he stayed at home and watched Bolt on tv.

If you are going to compare yourself to someone, compare yourself to yourself last year, and see how far you have come. Then push yourself to do better tomorrow... and the day after...

Do the best you can at the present time and that's all anyone can ask of you. Don't try too hard to be the best or the most creative, you will always fall short of what you set yourself.

Try new things, not because someone else does it, but to better yourself.
You only have to glance though this thread to see how creative you can be, you may even find that that is where you find your own inspiration and creativity again.

Less of them "negative waves" man...

Shadowkesh???
Also : tools can be made, crafts can be mastered after time, but for my humble opinion creativity is a virtue you get born with...I made a couple of peeps over the years that were very behind the door when creativity was handed out...(and I know there are creativity finding methods around, but I don't believe in these...) So either you have that spark or not...and you sir certainly proved that part every time you started something! So I have spoken...

Oh, and I agree that your trooper chap needs some more colour. But not just Orange, it needs something to contrast with the brown/tan/orange. Some blue would be nice in a spot here and there, not a lot, just a spot.

I think the fact that you have a 160 odd page painting blog, and all the associated posters that feel motivated to comment and converse about your work, is testament that you are doing something right.

There are plenty of painters out there better than us, but that should not stop us from painting and creating the armies that we want to.

I hope the competitions continue to help motivate you through your backlog, best of luck.

OKAY OKAY OKAY I'LL GET BACK IN THE BOX!!!

You all are right, I need to judge myself on my own growth not on others. As I said I was having a pity party at the time, so I feel better. Especially looking at the figure again today, which is how I need to work with my models. Build/ paint and then judge the next day to make sure it wasn't just a fleeting inspiration.

The competition continues, and so does the color quest. I tried the oranges I have to see what a full on orange guy looks like that's ugly, so maybe as an army badge or something, but probably not. I'm getting the urge to paint them all up to use as counts as guard....from a planet of really tall proportionately accurate humanoids. I tried a couple spot colors, let me know what you think.

Mainly just the red, white and Black of the WWI German flag. There's some lime green on one of their backpacks, but not sure about it.

Any suggestions on the leg armor panels (arms too I guess), should I do the same grey/black as the gun?

Also just realized that the green on the backpack is hidden behind the troopers head . I'll have to get a better shot tomorrow as I'm at work now.

well...the grey/back mix on knees AND elbows...that would look suitable SWAT-like... i also would be hesitant to paint the collar piece that way you did... you have to try if a white-ish version looks good or not...

also... just thinking aloud here...: since these troopers fight against an unfeeling and undead opponent, i guess they themselves will get sooner than later unfeeling towards killing their enemy...so kill marks on helmets etc probably will happen...
by this you could add character to the individual models... i am thinking also about the special markings on clone troopers... for special battles or campaigns...

i wish you an easy shift

A lighter gray. Same color suggests made of the same material. Also, you're an American. We spell it gray, unless we are typing with a fake English accent. Or using it as a proper noun, like Earl Grey tea. </spelling pedant> ( and sense of humor test)

Forgive another correction, but, well, "better than you..." no, not the way to say it. Try "whose work is better than your work currently is"-- in your opinion. Ah that's it. Personally, I love finding work better than mine. I can learn from it. It makes me happy to know that there are other people who have honed their skills to such a point. It gives me hope --by showing me-- that such skill is possible, and a goal-- that I too can someday attain such skill. The only problem I have is if said person is a D-Cannon about answering questions or offering advice. Fortunately there are very few D-Cannons in our little creative community. Theo you are sooooo silly.

You are an inspiration to so many of us. I personally miss your input to the LoER comps. We all feed off each other. I see your recent work and am amazed at the output and how great it looks.

As to the troops I love them. Definate vib about them.

well no new stuff to show off as im about to go do that work thing, but I have a cunning Idea to bounce off of all of you. I was thinking of what to do to carry my zombies around in, and I was having second thoughts of using the dust buildings as terrain pieces since going more than one tile they start not lining up to do the internal design, and then it hit me. Why dont I use the Dust walls to make a building that can hold ALL the Zombies. The plan is to make it two stories tall and long enough to contain the walkers on the ground floor and have seperate spaces for the fatties and walkers on the top floor in two seperate rooms. This will help me get rid of some of the dust solid walls that have no windows, and still make it thematic terrain for non zombicide games. THe floors Ill make out of Plastic card and foamboard and will try and photocopy the game tiles in case I can squeeze it into a mission. I might get a proof of concept together when I get home from work tonight, otherwise Im looking at MOnday for any real progress.

The moment you started I was thinking exactly that...kinda like a big case of Polly pocket...if you can make it strong and secure enough, this will be a cool carry case!

I'll be brief (as well as late).

1) You're only competing against yourself here. If it were a competition we may as well all go home and let Jah-Joshua and Winterdyne compete.

2) Then again, as Stalin is quoted/misattributed as saying: "Quantity has a Quality all it's Own". Because as good as they are, those guys don't really finish the quantity that so many others do, and are needed to put whole armies (and Zombie Hordes) on the table on a realistic timeframe.

3) So there are different types of "good" and "quality". And we all fall somewhere in different places anyway.

4) I kinda liked the plain bone armour. It just looked more "real military" to me rather than Space Marine-y. Maybe with a smaller shoulder flag than the whole shoulder?

5) I can't picture the Dust Building Carry Case.. you'll have to show me instead.

6) I think that's it....

I also liked the plain bone armor! Not crazy about the brown though, maybe a grey?

Post by: Theophony

Okay well after a quick tabulation (not really as I too liked the plain bone armor ) I think I'm going to go that route. Plus I might have a special surprise to go with it .

I'll try the grey on the boots as well, but it would be a light gray as I don't want to go with a second dark gray on the model. Maybe I'll also try some alternate browns too, go really dark brown on one.

As for the building I need to remember to save space for survivors too. I might need more dust buildings.

Okay so maybe a picture will help more than just words. Especially since my words were not with me yesterday.

Not sure if it will work out as the two levels don't come apart more easily, but I will endeavor to make the bottom floor and top floor be seperable and then put a solid bottom on both so they can be transported instead of just a cardboard box to hold my Zombicide things. I've got enough pieces to make it slightly larger, which I hope will make one floor big enough to hold the Zombicide floor tiles. The other story I'll seperate with walls to make rooms, which will keep the zombies sorted by type, leave a space for survivors, and hopefully some pace left over for the cards, dice and tokens.

This will be a long term project as I've got the painting competition stuff to work on and a few zombies left to complete.

i think you should also involve some plasticcard... make a section between the two storeys , one that can make the floor to be slid in and out...that shouldn´t be too complicated...and i bet the dust terrain takes plastic glue well, so a strong connection would be there...
also the bottom of the building needs some inside support as well so that when fully filled the bottom doesn´t bend too much outside...
if you can build one more storey, then it will have enough storage to hold every model?...hopefully? eventually this building will need a roof...and you a sort of grip/handle to manhandle the case...that could be built by the top/roof like these small built you have on top iof american buildings where the last part of the stairs comes out...sorry lack of words here^^

Post by: GrimDork

I think those are modular Dust buildings, and if that's the case then Miniature Market for sure.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/06 19:27:33

Post by: Theophony

@Vik, internal walls will happen on the lower level for support and to sort the minis. See below for the rest of the ideas
@AoV, the building is modular and comes from DUST. Link to the clearance kits here
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/catalog/product/view/id/25887/s/ffgdt040/ for a two story kit
Or http://www.miniaturemarket.com/catalog/product/view/id/23698/s/ffgdt025/ for a three story kit andrew figures.
@Grimdork, correct on both counts

So went to lunch with the pastors from church, their families and some other friends. Good times, but had to leave to head to work directly afterwards, so no time to head home and do any building or painting.

So the next plan is to see if I can expand the levels a little more. I really need to take all the buildings apart and sort what I have out before I do anything else. I "think" I have enough to expand it out and maybe to add a third level, but it will be close. With what I have built in the picture there is only a set of windows on the back and a door on the front, but I think what I will do is put a matching door on the back, which will give me finger holds on both sides to make transporting easier. I was trying to figure out a way to set up a carry strap, but I think just carrying the building will require both hands once it is full. It won't be modular anymore after I build this, though the different levels "should" still come apart. I was also thinking of building a roof for the top with a little garden and possibly a water tower/ dice tower integrated into that, but that's a far far far (even farther than Star Wars) future design. Possibly a fire escape too, but that might be too much to make it portable. Possible chicken/pigeon coup on top as well

Water/dice tower is the best of the ideas for the top, I love dice towers

I don't think it would match, but you can totally craft a decent dice tower out of Battlezones (I think I recall you mentioning having one and not doing much with them, maybe?). Water tower dice tower... damnit all now I need to make one of those for my Mars Attacks board

What the BLEEP is up with Dakkadakka this morning? My screens all white, half the emoticons are screwey, and ........I don't know, but things come in threes....like GOD.

Anyhoo....

I should actually be having a play date today. My brother in law and his family are coming over shortly, my son just said we are all going swimming , the dice demand to be rolled, blood needs to be spilled and zombies must be shot in the head.

@Grimdork, yes the first picture is the type of water tower I was thinking of.
@Vik, eventually I'll get to it, but first things first.
@Dr. H, I'll leave that build up to you.

Almost had a perfect carry box for the zombies last night at work. I was just to busy to grab one of those medical styrofoam transport cases before it got crushed . It looked like the perfect size for it all too.

@Grim, many zombies died, more will definitely in the future as well.

Well bro in law loved the game, so much so that he wants to buy his own copy. I think he's going to chip in on the Black Plague as well. Monty Python figures sold the deal.

So stopped by minimarket yesterday. Almost bought the model Ive been thinking about for a while when a familiar voice said "Hey John, Whats up?"

It was my brother in law. He Loved Zombicide so much he bought it . Bought the third season of ZOmbicide so we have new models and characters to play with. He's keeping it at his place for when we play there. Also he might be jumping in on my ZBP pledge.

Also got an email from CMON. Its a response from my July 22 email reply to them. Talk about great customer service . They now want to help see what they can do to cancel my Blood Rage Pledge, which is already picked, packed and on a boat in the ocean.

well i didnt buy the model after that, walked out empty handed, but with a huge smile on my face.

No hobby stuff done lately, too many other things to do. I can't wait till saturday (three day weekend). might get some of the troopers assembled tomorrow.

@Grimdork, Well the problem is it's too late for them to do anything. Basically the parcel is in the mail and they have no way to stop it. The boxed everything up along with 10,000 other pledges and put them in containers (2 for the U.S. Alone) and they are on their way to the states. Each pledge is already labeled for shipping so when they unload them they will get scanned and put on postal trucks immediately, no sorting happening. I had contacted them before the "cut off" window and was told "no problem", but then when I checked with them in early July they said "too late". Now the original person I talked to must have gone through her emails and said "I knew I was supposed to do something back in july ". They still have not responded to my reply from the other day. Oh well, probably going to eBay it and the exclusives.

Well I've been a little worn down and too busy to do anything, but the contest is still going on so I decided to at least start assembly.

More to come as time permits, but have to buy and install a new dishwasher this weekend, and then one of our two showers broke this morning....so plumbing work to do as well.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 19:39:24

Post by: Theophony

Fetching huge is right Vik, I wonder if this is one of the 70mm scale models instead of 28. I never imagined hulk to be THAT big. I think he might make it into a kings of war army as a giant at some point as well.

Anyway he has been glued together now and primed right before I left. Hopefully he will get some paint over the next week or so. Also the box he comes with has alternate hands and three heads so you could make red hulk, gray hulk or common old green hulk. This box was sitting at miniaturemarket for months, and at $20 it was a good deal (normally over $50). The box had been opened and the parts were loose inside and the model was a terrible cast with lots of mold slip and a few bubbles. I got it anyway and have already trimmed the mold slip lines off, and the bubbles are in less than noticeable areas so no real harm there. Also it came with a second bag of parts under the foam , so I have five extra hulk heads and a few arms. I already have a plan for the "Hulk Hands"

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 19:50:12

Post by: Viktor von Domm

that sounds indeed like a good deal...
extra hands come in ...er...handy

also...this jade/grey behemoth needs a greenstuff session asap...that hand looks like it is not slippery but might come off

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 20:44:12

Post by: GrimDork

There's no way he's intended for 28 or even 35mm games. Add a head of height or so to the eisenkern guy and you're at the taller batman figures. Still barely to his waist. Sometimes he IS freaking huge, but it's usually general mass and not height.

Kings of war Giant though... totally works

Although I think Hulk does sometimes get bigger when he's like... superdupermegapissed... but that's still pretty large

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 20:58:05

Post by: Theophony

@vik, in that picture he is just tacked together with putty, so no hands falling off, but the joins will need some greenstuff.
@Grimdork, I though he got bigger as he absorbed damage, but I didn't think it would be this much bigger , but I was never a hulk fan. except Lou Ferrigno.

I cannot resist. Well, I can, but I don't want to...
Spoiler:

I do not know why that is a meme with the Hulk.

I think 35mm ( the Batman minis are 35mm) is 1/44 or 1/43 scale? So an 8 foot tall hulk is about 57mm tall ( 2 1/4 inches) That mini looks much taller.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 21:51:01

Post by: GrimDork

The whole mm variant of scaling miniatures is obnoxious anyway as in some cases it may be open to debate as to whether the company declaring 28 or 32 or 35 mm is talking about xx mm to the eyes, or to the top of the average (non feather/plume) head.

Because a lot of 28mm scale figures are actually 32-35mm tall if you measure them to the top of their helmets.

Hulk should be head and possibly shoulders taller than his peers. His peers are *maybe* a head taller than that Eisenkern dude.

That hulk looks like he's scaled for the old Inquisitor game

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/11 22:43:15

Post by: Theophony

@Red, Looks like hulk had too much fiber.
@Grimdork, the Eisenkern are even larger than GW, I think they are 32mm, but I get your point.

This hulk body really is screaming to be turned into a demon prince. Talk about infused with power. I could see him becoming a demon prince of Khorne really easy as they care little about armor, and he could just rip the skulls off of people's spines.

Thanks Giraffex. Now I feel even better about the buy at $20 since it would be $75 at full retail. Now I may have to buy a copy of Dr. Doom that they have as he would normally be $55.00. Not sure what they had them priced at.

Taking the twins to volleyball game this morning instead of church . All three are taking volleyball and floor hockey and Sarah is taking yoga and dance as well. Unfortunately volleyball games were scheduled on Sunday morning , there's a lot of parents who are upset with that schedule so they didn't sign up. We told the kids that they can take volleyball but they will only play in one game. The twins chose the first game, Sarah chose the last game. The coaches are upset because they won't have full teams because our kids won't be there, but that's the break for scheduling during church times.

All twenty stormtroopers have a base coat of bone on them. Might get some time today to do some painting, but probably not too much. Played Zombicide for a few hours yesterday, addiction.....thy name is Zombicide.

Wish I knew before hand how good a deal these were I would have sent one your way with the bits.

Edit: they primer on the stormtroopers was too heavy to try and correct with paint, lost far too many details. I have posted over in the painting challenge thread a request to switch to a secondary project. Re painting a dreamforge leviathan mortis. He was going to be in iron warrior colors originally, but now will be in a modified Totenkopf color scheme for when I resurrect (strip) these figures. Here's the photo of how he looked before. I did paint it's skull already before posting this as I was going to try and do this alongside the troopers as a special add on to my challenge.

Some painting on big stompy occurred today.

German gray for the majority of the body panels. The exposed spine and pelvis area are bone colored. I did the hydraulic casings in a coat of bone, but I'm thinking of switching it over to an accent color, possibly yellow.

The chest emblem spot I'm considering doing in gunmetal with some sort of crest on it, but open to suggestions.

I like your revised scheme for the Eisenkern. I assume you're going to keep it when you redo the guys whose basecoats went on too thick.

On that Mortis (which is also looking good), are those tbe stock hip joints, or did you replace them with Kotobukiya ball joints?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/09/14 21:44:36

Post by: Theophony

@Barzam, THose are the stock joints. THe model goes together like a gundam model, at least the few I've put together over the years. The bone color scheme is what I will most likely be doing for the troopers. the Mortis is getting basically a reversed scheme.
@ Grimdork, he better be a killer when he's done. I dislike people who wear skulls and all black and can't kill a fly

Got some of the metals done on the torso. Now I just need to find his legs and decide on guns. Off to school, hopefully not a marathon event like 2 weeks ago.

Picked up a copy of the Batman game for half price at miniaturemarket today. $27.50 could not be passed up. I did leave a perfectly good box of sputniks there where the outer cover of the box had been sliced when they opened the shipping box.

Mercs faction 9 FCC. I guess that's what they are called as that's all that's written on the box. It's been sitting on the shelf for a couple months at $30. When I went to look at it today they had dropped it down to $10 from the original $60. So I couldn't let it sit. Hopefully they scale well with infinity, but they look a little tiny to me. I'll unpack them later. Right now I've got a lawn to mow, a tree to kill and a dishwasher to remove.

Another local church is hosting a "Fight Night", a series on how to fight with your spouse "the correct way" . Well it's dinner and time with the wife and no kids. THey are going to a hot air balloon glow tonight here in Saint Louis. Just after dark all the balloons hit their burners and light up their balloons and it's always a really good event. It's in preparation for tomorrows great balloon race, not all the way around the world, just far enough for the sky to be filled with all sorts of beautiful colors. Dozens of balloons scheduled for the event and then fireworks afterwards, they should have a great time.

Tomorrow morning is also the annual Affton city parade. Every year they put on a great parade down the street that our driveway exits onto, so we just walk out into our lawn, set up some chairs and the kids get full bags of candy from all the vehicles that drive by. Local schools have their marching bands, my oldest will be in the parade this year with her schools dance team, so it will just be the twins, my wife and myself on the sideline. I think I've posted some pictures of previous years parades as there is a local gun store that has military trucks in the parade complete with MA Dueces (working ones ) on the pivots, and also shriner cars . They have always had WWII Vetrans riding in Dealership cars with magnetic signs on the side saying "vetran of the battle of the bulge" or "Normandy" or other historic battles, unfortunately the numbers have been decreasing over the years due to age. THere was also a great little gimmick they had two years ago with a motorized trashcan on wheels. basically i think they just took a Segway and put it inside a trash can, but the person inside dressed up as Oscar the grouch , it was for the local recycling center and was a big hit.

@red, One of the local towns near us is the state "tree capital" they are in constant competition with other municipalities to retain that title. Basically they take pride in having more trees per household than other communities . My area it doesn't matter, but this apple tree hasn't produced so the bible says it's time to cut it down. Don't believe me......look it up

i want to see that passage where it can be read to chop down apple trees!!!
also, that balloon warming up sounds like a verrry romantic thing...i bet my wife would be all pudding in my hands if i could come up with that^^
and that parade sounds like a coo event too...even without the net gain of candy^^...
also...i think the mercs minis will be right for infinity scale minis...

and red... right on the money, the grünen started it, now everyone collects and separates their trash and cuddles with trees here

also...from my knowledge...Berlin is the city on the planet with the most bridges and most tree ratio per inhabitant... greenest city there is^^

Well got to at least check out the results of the primer this morning. Much better than what happened with the dreamforge guys, still a little heavy though.

Wait what's that in the background????

"HULK NO LIKE COMPETITION IN PAINTING QUE!!! HULK SMASH!!!"

Obviously he's just blocked in currently, hopefully he'll calm down and get painted further later.

Great time last night for all involved. The marriage conference was great, kids had fun at the balloon glow, and we had a blast after the conference with dinner out with our friends.

Now to a busy morning and long night.

Sorry for no replies. I am currently at the hospital (not mine), my mother was just wheeled in for surgery. She was fine before dinner with a friend, but got taken to the ER because of feeling something stuck in her throat. Her stomach has twisted over on itself and torn through her diaphragm and is up in her chest. The doctor says there's an e trembly high mortality rate. Waiting to hear.

Thanks everyone for best wishes. Mom survived the first (and most dramatic) surgery and has been recovering since about 2a.m. She is still being kept under sedation as they could not close up the incision as they will need to go in a few more times yet. They had to remove a good portion of her stomach, part of her esophaugus, and part of a vein that feeds both of those things. Her stomach ruptured and spilled all the contents into her chest and abdominal cavities, even though they cleaned it out thoroughly twice now she has still developed sepsis and they are trying to stop that from spreading and bring up all her vitals which are low. THey will not bring her out of the sedation for a few days at least and at best we are looking at 2-3 weeks in the Intensive Care Unit before moving out to a regular hospital room. the surgeon is very frank with us. She should have died last night and he isn't giving her much of a chance. Even if she survives and comes around her quality of life will be very low. Feeding tubes and other implants will be needed by the middle to end of the week for getting nutrients as regular I.V. drips are not for a long haul. We kids have been discussing the situation and we all know that Is not how Mom would want to live, but we still need to try. Dad is trying to stay strong, but he has follow up surgery himself tomorrow from his health scare a couple weeks ago.

We just talked to our kids and had to give them the speech. THey haven't lost anyone this close yet, so it's going to be hard if/when it occurs.

Thanks Again everyone. Hopefully good news comes soon and I can get back to a better, more joyful topic of discussion here.

Thank You everyone, this support is exactly what I need right now.

Dad had his follow up surgery today from his issues a few weeks ago. It didn't go well. Blood pressure went through the roof after the surgery, and his pain level was higher than before the first occurrence. He's stable now, but they couldn't remove everything and had to replace the stint that they had in. He will need another surgery before Christmas.

Still no change in Mom. They have her on every type of antibiotic they can (she's allergic to penicillin) as she has gotten septic from her stomach contents spilling into her body. Her blood pressure is e trembly low so they have to medicate her to get that up to a stable level. They don't want to do the surgery until she is "stable", but the clock is ticking. Basically the doctors have told us to prepare for the worst, only a miracle at this point. From what the doctors said about her life quality after all this we know that she would not want to come through the surgery. They are afraid to wake her to check any other conditions at this point.

Sorry to vent, but typing helps me get thoughts out even if they are jumbled. Also spelling might suck right now as I'm on your 28 straight and I'm headed back up to the hospital to be there overnight tonight as my brother and sisters need a break, and someone has to stay at home with Dad.

Quick update.

Dad is doing great, some discomfort, but he couldn't be stopped from coming up to the hospital and staying for hours last night before mom's surgery and then came up for the surgery today and is still doing fine.

Mom's surgery started an hour late, and went long but the outcome has been a lot better than was expected. THey removed more food and other debris from her chest and abdomen literally flushing it with liters and liters of saline to get everything out. No additional organ damage had occurred which surprised the two surgeons and third doctor all working on her at the same time. THey did not have to enter in through her back/side which was a tremendous risk as they would have to have deflated one of her lungs to do so. Feeding tube has been connected so the most important part of the surgery was accomplished. They said if that part could not have been done then there was nothing more to achieve. THey attached drain tubes in her neck, chest and abdomen and inserted tubes in her esophagus and stomach to keep them viable for reattaching them at some point in the future 6-9 months.

Now the waiting begins. THey are still fighting the infection with everything they can, but they are still concerned about sepsis, pneumonia and other things that i can't think of right now (30+ hours before I slept for 4).

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Still need them as they are expecting 2-3 more weeks in ICU before going to a nursing home and eventually home.

Great News this morning.

The word miracle has been used multiple times by our doctors over the last 36 hours since surgery ended. Mom is not out of the woods yet, but she is well ahead of anything the doctors could have hoped for. They have begun feeding her through the tube, just little amounts as not to shock the already taxed system. She has been maintaining her own blood pressure for most of the last 24 hours with only minimal assistance from medicines in that regard. They brought her partly out of sedation while my sisters were in the room to check her awareness and she was able to open her eyes and focus on them, she even had some tears that had to be wiped away. She was able to move her hands and toes when asked to by the nurses and squeezed my sisters hands when their names were said so she recognizes and comprehends. Her breathing has greatly improved, she is still attached to a ventilator, but she is doing the majority of the work now. Still a long way to go and the doctors keep warning us of possible set backs, but definitely miraculous at this point. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I really mean it. Thank You All.

I cannot go see her till this weekend as I developed a cold from my 30+ hour marathon of being up there awake, and any helpful germs could cause a major setback. Antibiotics have been consumed and I'm trying to get rest to get my body up to par for the next few rounds of recovery.

Better news couldn't come quick enough. The doctor took my mom off the ventilator completely. They even removed the tube and she is trying to talk, but still very weak. She tried to write, but her hands are so swollen from all the IVs they have in her she can't feel the pen. My wife just re Ted me a picture of her in bed, she's still sacked out on pain meds and her biggest question when told about all the visitors was "is the house clean?" that's my moms priorities right there.

To celebrate, I bought some space monkeys (morat vanguard infantry which was the deal of the day at my home away from home). I think I have a plan for the paint scheme as I really didn't like the one I had done before. I'm thinking space monkeys in Banana suits time to fear the yellow. Plus that will look good with my MODcube sets which should be on their way as we speak. It'll probably beat my KOW2 kickstarter in showing up.

capital news mate! i will not cease to cross my fingers for her! things like make up thoughts or house cleaning always are a good sign as the patient then wants to get better and get the life back she has had before the incident... so every doc sure looks for these demands/thoughts in a patient... that is the best news...

tho our own health is also not something to take lightly now!!! a daily dose of ginger is something i would advise you to take... it warms the body a treat and strengthens the whole system...and the quicker you´re back on full health the quicker you´re able to see your mom boss you around again

Once again Thank You all for your encouragement and thoughts.

Mom had kind of a rough evening last night. My wife was there for most of it, bless her heart. My mom kept spelling out everything she saw or heard. My wife had mentioned how the Pope was here in St. Louis and my mom would say P O P E, she would talk in between, but it was like an addiction to her. My wife had a good time with it even though I could see it becoming very tedious quickly, especially for the fact that my wife is an English teacher and couldn't help but correct my moms misspellings . About 2am when we fell asleep and my sister was at the hospital she texted me to let me know a neurologist had stopped by and believes that some of the other craziness my mom was saying was because she was actually asleep and dreaming. Her eyes were open and she was processing visual stimulus and hearing things, but her brain was pretty much asleep and that might be why she was spelling things out as her brain was processing it.

Well I'm still taking the antibiotics so can't go up this morning to see her, but the kids and I will try and FaceTime with her later so she can see them and hear their voices. The hospital doesn't allow anyone under 16 (which all three of mine fall into) to go into the CV ICU.

I got a bit of painting done on a space monkey (morat), pics later. Headed to my wife's grandparents to do some work now.

Edit: on an unrelated note, I got a package from mantic. No, not my KOW2 books, but the special character figure from the KS.

I'm still waiting on doctors to do their rounds this morning. mom had a better night again, but has more pain this morning. One of her frequent x-rays showed a "fuzzy spot" that we are waiting to hear back on to see what the radiologist thinks it might be. Moms side of the family had a huge split 30 years ago when my grandmother passed away. half the siblings didn't talk to each other since that time, and even give us cold shoulders at funerals. That seems to have changed now as one of my "lost" uncles came up to visit my mom yesterday, so some good is coming out of all of this. If my aunt shows up it will be a miracle, but she has at least called and talked to my sister to ask how moms doing. Thanks again guys for the thoughts and letting me vent. Some things you can say to a keyboard that you can't say to your wife, kids, or siblings.

In more fun news Herr Vik is running the next league terrain contest which end december 13th. It's theme is "got wood?" check it out herer http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/665211.page

Thanks again guys. Your my life savers here.

Well Vik, since you said to share my idea....

Zombicide: Black Plague is supposed to ship in December, and the Knight pledge(s) that I will receive come with Not-Monty Python Characters . So what is the point of having Monty Python and the Holy Grail without having the Giant wooden Bunny
Spoiler:

Since we have to make use of wood it just seems appropriate. It won't be to scale as I want it to dress up my board a little, so I figure I will make the base size the same size as the cars from the modern Zombicide. I haven't seen any rules for carriages or carts in the game, but if nothing else it can just be set dressing. I'll try and model it so 4 of the figures could stand on/in it just like cars.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

It is always the families with daughters too. I have seen it happen ( Some of my aunts after my grandfather passed, and in a few other cases. Always the daughters. No idea why.)

The wooden bunny could be made to double as a siege tower of sorts?

Well part of my KOW2 kickstarter showed up. Blaine on gakamak (sp), still no books or Ronaldo the bard. Couple more days and I can report it (again) as they said they wouldn't look at missing items until after the 30th. I'm not a big fan of the cape, so I left it off. Oh there was much bending and flash removal and removal of really bad gates. If this is what prodos produces then it's another reason I'm glad I skipped their aliens vs predator kickstarter.

In other news.... I was excited to work on the bunny.

The base is 2"x4" which is the size of the police car and pimp mobile in Zombicide. You can't see it because of the wheels I have leaned up against it, but there are axels under the base of the bunny. The x on the wheels are where I plan to drill holes to mount them. It should be semi-functional when done. 2 more wheels to the side that need rounding, but I'm tired .

well... monty python is always a cool idea... but as stated towards other contestants... i think an immobile piece would be a fairer attempt... maybe a slightly roadkill version of the wooden bunny?....but that should be discussed in the comp thread to see how the others think about that interpretation of the rules...ok?

Well if that's the case then I'll just have to build a giant wooden badger

Mom had a bad night. Her left lung filled with mucus and fluid last night so they put her back on the ventilator and went in and drained all the gal out. They'll do it again tomorrow to make sure. After that they found a blood clot in her heart, they are treating it currently and making sure it doesn't break off and cause a stroke. We were warned about the possibility of the pneumonia and clotting risks the first few days, but didn't brace ourselves for it since everything had been going so well. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers guys

The good news though, they caught the clot early. And her lungs are now cleaned out. It is step in the right direction, and that is a good thing.

Just make sure you or anyone else in the family does not grind down during this. These things are marathons-- I learned that with my grandfather's illness-- so pace yourselves. And remember to eat a decent meal at least once/day. Seriously.

Now, about the Bunny. Me, I think of vehicles as terrain, but Vik has the final say.

Sorry for the long absence, mom is still fighting. Had a blood clot in her heart, which has resolved, and pneumonia in her left lung which knocked her back onto the ventilator. They removed the ventilator a few hours ago and the blood clot has been dissolved. The doctors are taking a slower approach now, they admitted they rushed it a big last time, but she was showing such good progress they didn't want to stymie her healing. She is no more pain now than ever before and cannot get comfy. Over two weeks on your back in a bed will do that to you I guess. Dad is fine, except we are seeing that he is losing hope of mom coming home, he is sure she will survive, but thinks that she will be going into a nursing home after the hospital. The doctors prognosis is leaning that way for the next few months at least, but she won't be leaving the surgical ICU for at least another week or two, and Saturday is my parents 51st anniversary.

Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers guys.

In actual gaming type news I received my MODcube Kickstarter order , I've got pics, but I have to leave early for school, so I'll share those later.

Thanks Vik.

Just got a call from my wonderful wife who took time off from work today to be with my mom. My mom is having a really rough day. Between the pain, major lack of sleep, and I think with having mended some fences with her brother and sister over the last few days she has given up. She told my sister while my wife and father were out of the room to "just let her go." They have her on antidepressants as they do with most people who have been laid up this long, but that hasn't seemed to help her mood any. Now I have to sit through this class tonight thinking about that. I've already broken down once in the hallway here at school and my class doesn't start for another 2 hours. Can't leave or I fail this class and it's not being held again for 18 months . After talking it over with her, wife is taking our kids back up to go in and see mom tonight, kind of a Hail Mary pass in a hope that their faces might bring her around mood wise. We've arranged it with the doctors and nurses to ensure that the tubes and wires are all covered up and that they will be making sure not to come in while the kids are there to draw blood or do other test that might scare my kids.

Hopefully the teacher will let me out early as I really can't focus on this stuff right now.

If it will help you focus, just imagine how happy your mom will be when you walk into the hospital room and tell her that it's official, you are going to be a college graduate. I'm certain that will brighten her day.

Good luck. I am hoping for the best.

Thanks red.

My wife told her today was my last class. She got a huge smile on her face from that, and said she was proud of me, only took an extra 20 years, but still. I don't have any desire to walk for my diploma, but I'd like to think she'd be there if I did.

Hey guys, taking a break for hospital visits with mom today. Getting burned out, too many days/nights of 4 hours sleep has me worn down. Not much progress with mom, they thought they would move her to the step down ICU, but then set backs happened.

I picked up a cheap game from miniaturemarket.com today. It's the expansion for the game Dark, Darker, Darkest. A zombie game similar to Zombicide, it is the radioactive e pansion and came with 66 models for $15 since the box was damaged. Pics coming later, they have been primed right now, just a tad smaller than the Zombicide figures, but might help make the game more realistic as there will be varying sizes of people. Plus has a giant gorilla , snake and zombie vulture.

Edit: quick pics right before I head out the door

The zombies for this are sculpted by the now former Mantic house sculptor who has recently posted here on dakka about his departure from Mantic. He is also the one who sculpted the 3rd generation plague guys for Deadzone and a lot of the upcoming Dungeon saga models. We will see how these turn out whenever I get to put paint to model next.

Also recieved my MODcube order, can't remember if I posted that, and too lazy to look back in my blog right now.

Thanks guys.

I average normally 6 hours a night. Lately it's been averaging 4. We were just short handed family wise this week as my brother had a cold so couldn't be with my mom and my oldest sister was with my niece who was competing in the state championship for high school golf. Her school took first place overall, she has won several LPGA junior championships herself and if they could afford the constant training she could go professional. But that left me and my second oldest sister to attend to mom. We even had to leave dad with her from time to time by himself, which mom disapproves of.

@red, the MODcubes were about a week past the estimated shipping date but I'll let that slide as RITides wife gave birth early.

Thanks Grimdork.

Hey also a belated heads up, I got the email a few days ago and didn't have time to repost. Industrial Plastic Supply is having a sale right now till holloween. 15% off on their products using code "IPS15ASE". They sell bulk sheet and tube plastic. Dsteingass originally pointed me to them and I ordered a bunch in one go (it's the wAy to do it as the shipping is pretty harsh, but if you pick up a bundle of two at least then the cost including shipping still beats buying it from anywhere else). I'm still working on my stack from that original order and I've used plenty of it in the mean time.
http://www.iplasticsupply.com/?hsCtaTracking=dccce5d5-c8fd-4ea2-9bc3-070a90d33bcb%7C7b6b5773-a8b2-4912-96d8-55c7f9a5bcc0&utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz--xATLYlbPD95yrIFKSyTVGaHPDZpFlq_wk_QUds3dr83lF0xUV1r5UYHrq20WVIeSJbZAsSfbZRRQn9_PKEwDnLbGdig3BHAXtGLHSd2B97lMsHlQ&_hsmi=22731255&utm_source=hs_email&utm_content=22731255

What you want to look under is high impact styrene (normally we say HIPS, high impact poly styrene, but they just cut that out of the wording but it's the same stuff as evergreen)

unboxing video for those interested roughly 8 minutes.

originally got it because the conan kickstarter was going to have a crossover adventure for these models, then i cancelled my conan pledge, but it was too late to cancel this pledge. I'm still stoked for the models, especially the huge monsters, but I've heard the game is great. Some of the monsters will make it into a Kings of War Army once I finally get my Kickstarter rewards for that Fethed up mess.

Yes they are. A few I want to use when Zombicide Black Plague comes out. Especially the Giants, they would be fun to have as players, but I'd have to house rule them somehow.

I did have to play with the sea serpent. If you didn't watch the unboxing video they put to the test the durability of these plastics by tossing the sea serpent around since it has all those small tentacles. I tossed mine up to our 9' ceiling and let it hit the tile floor with no damage whatsoever. They also come with colored base rings that snap on them, I tried them on my Zombicide zombie and space marine. It was just larger than the zombies base so it didn't snap in place, but it will work to use them to identify specific models in that game, and it fit snugly around a GW 25mm base as well.

Hi Guys, quick update as not enough time in the world.

Thread title changed as today is the 28th day my mom has been in the ICU. Thanks for all your best wishes, they mean a lot. She was able to take two steps yesterday with a walker to move to the recliner. Slow progress, but better progress than regression. The doctors are pleased with progress at this point, since they didn't think she would make it through the procedure she has exceeded their expectations already. She has now enjoyed her first sip of diet pepsi and can suck on hard candy as well, but as soon as she drinks/swallows it all comes right out of the hole they made in her chest and into a collection bag so you can see exactly what she had. That's going to be the hardest part for her as she enjoyed cooking (and eating) and shared lots of time with friends over meals out. Now she can only have a tiny taste just to sample the flavor and nothing solid.

I have work tonight but the day off tomorrow, and I will be joined by all three of my kids tomorrow as they don't have school as a teacher comp day for parent teacher conferences. I have already been asked if we can "kill zombies tomorrow?", which turned a few heads as I was talking with the pastor and a few of the older men at church when my daughter injected herself into the conversation midstream. Lets just say there were some strange looks directed my way.

I still haven't opened all the goodies from the Blood Rage Kickstarter, but if there are any specific models anyone wishes to see then let me know. Also I have pics in a "Blood Rage" album in my gallery if you want to check there.

@Wehrkind, The pictures are the sides of the box bottom. Basically take the lid off and those are the images around the edge of the bottom half of the box. the models are sitting on the internal boxed for the big guys and units that came in the box.

Thanks everyone for the best wishes. The kids were off school today so I took them up in an attempt to lighten up moms mood. When we got there to the hospital they were in the process of moving my mom out of the Critical care ICU down to the regular ICU level. It's both a blessing and a curse as it means mom is doing better (able to walk 6'/2m with a walker), but it's not really great as she goes from sharing a nurse with one other patient to being one of 5 or 6 patients to a single nurse. THey had talked about moving her wednesday or tuesday at earliest, but I h=guess they had a sudden influx of patients that they needed room for. Lately it had been mom and 2-3 other patients on the floor, but when we arrived there were 10 other patients, and they only have 12 rooms in that area so it was "close enough" to move her.

I primed some of the big guys yesterday before leaving for work, I'm a little hesitant to try and paint these bad boys up, but I also want to get some of them painted up right away, hopefully i can do them justice. I'm torn between the Mountain Giant and the frost giant as my first models to paint.

Keep up the zombie slaughtering (we just had a fun round of Zombicide last night for the first time in weeks) and it's good to see that you're keeping some wry humour going, as in the thread title...

Thanks Azazelx, Glad to hear your mum is doing better too. I'm sitting at the hospital with my mom, she is dozing right now after physical therapy session. THey are very impressed with how things are progressing here. It's a long slow progress, but progress none the less.

Nothing interesting as I'm still waiting on Mantic to send me my books.............................................
But while surfing the MIniaturemarket.com website I saw they were doing their fall clearance sale, somehow missed that email, but my inbox is stuffed right now. One of the things that has popped back up on their site that has been out of stock for almost a year reappeared.

Arcane Legion Dragons of the east.

I missed out on them as I hadn't picked up the minis at that point, but for $15 you get two asian dragons that are prepainted, still the same pose though. I am toying around with using them in KOW if I can find a suitable army to run the terra cotta soldiers as. Currently I believe that the army will be run as goblins or possibly dwarves, but i detest using the pdf version of the rules to build an army. Send me my dead treemen version. Marine for scale, terrible pic as always, but only had a minute for it.

Post by: Paradigm

Personally I'd run the Terracotta army as Undead, makes sense with the single nerve value/no Wavering and the access to the Dark Surge spell. Especially if you're fluffifying them as an army of constructs, Undead would be the way I'd suggest going. Pretty sure they have dragons, if not, Allies are a thing.

@wehrkind, thanks I'll check it out when I'm home.....and awake
@para, I would definitely do them as undead, however, my main opponent fields undead and that would just be wired them both having the same bonuses and weaknesses. I might try it with him when we get time though.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/10/24 08:09:36

Post by: Paradigm

What about if one of you ran the main book undead and the other (your army is probably a better fit here) ran the Empire of Dust list from the new Forgotten Realms (or whatever it's called) list. I've not taken a close look but it's apparently pretty different from the 'normal' undead list, lots more constructs for a start (As you'd expect from not-Tomb Kings).

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/10/27 12:37:16

Post by: Theophony

Thanks for the suggestion Para, but I took a look at the Elven army thanks to a borrowed book from a friend (Come on Mantic, this is well past stupid). I think the Elite skill the elves have works slightly better, plus their drakon rider lord fits a dragon more to my terms. I think I will use the Treemen stats to represent temple (FOO) dogs as well. Now to find a model to represent the chariots, bolt throwers and dragons breath. I have ideas for each, but not sure the scale will fit with the arcane legions guys.

On a good note. Mom got moved out of the hospital last night . She is in a rehab facility now that she is off of all IV medicines and now we are in serious recovery phase. 35 days of being on your backside tends to destroy your muscle mass, and now it's up to her to do all the physical work to improve. she has been doing 4 "walks" a day for the past few days (each 20' or so before being too worn down). THank you all for your prayers, concerns and best wishes. She's been approved for 1 week there before going home and the doctors are pretty sure they can get approval for a second week from the insurance due to the extent of her surgery. Possibly more time after that but that will take some serious fighting to get.

Fair enough. That is one of the beauties of KoW, you can do a lot of matching units to rules you might not have considered in other games,

Took a bit of "me" time between church and the hospital today. Finally touched some paint again. Two hours......man there's so much detail, and I haven't even blocked all the base colors in yet . A few were Kickstarter only.

The mystic troll, Wolfman, mountain giant, Fenrir, the wildboar clan, some alternate sculpts and tokens as well as the art book I didn't grab were all Kickstarter exclusive. Of course this model and Fenrir were ones I really wanted. The frost giant was another that I wanted, but it's part of the core game so I could have waited on him, but then would have paid through the nose for the other guys. $116 with delivery got it all. I might try the game out, if not I've seen a few people talking about grabbing extra sets for making KOW armies out of the Vikings so I might just sell them.

Thanks Guys, not sure if Blood Rage will ever get played here, but the models will get used.

In the mean time I had some free time before the kids got off school for a half day since Halloween parties were done today. Also it's grandpas birthday so gave him a call this morning. But in the extra time I decided to try a little cutting to see if my modeling skills still exist or if I need some modeling rehab . Wonder if insurance would cover that .

Since I'm using Arcane Legion troops I figured I'll use their bases as well, with just a little bit of chopping and gluing required. The regular base sizes are either 80mm x 80mm or 80mm x 160mm from the arcane legion boxes. The horde base above is cut from one of the 80x80 bases which was then glued to the side of the 80x160 so it is a legal 80x200 base for a horde unit of my 20x20 figures.

the bases are also larger than the standard Mantic bases which help with the height difference as can be seen with a mantic 25mm base and orc next to my counts as elves/ terra cotta troops.
Does the spacing of the troopers look good to you guys?

I also cut one of the bases down to 50mm x 50mm for my dragon, who then did not fit on the base, so I figured I would have him flying. so he was popped off of his base and a hole was drilled into him and a plastic tube cut to have him flying above other monsters and units so his size would not be an issue. Blood Rage Giant and Mantic Ogre champion for size comparison.

The extra holes in the base were then filled in with some glue from my kids unused glue sticks and some left over flocking was then used to fill most of the base. I'm thinking of leaving the unflocked area open or add some small railroad gravel to it as I think that is what I will be adding to the other bases in my army for the terra cotta troops.

Suggestions and comments welcome.

Rank and file guys could do with q bit closer formation...for a true phalanx if you get my drift

Also best wishes to your mom. She must have quite a lot of angles beside her working overtime...

One note about bases for KoW: monsters and heroes and such can have somewhat larger bases if the models don't fit the normal size. Having a larger base is more of a downside over all, so a 60x60 or 75x75 or whatever your dragon needs to be on the ground should not pose a problem.

As it stands, he reminds me of when my cat was a kitten, and found out that the stack of books he had run and jumped on was rather unstable at the top.

Good to hear that your mum has made it home! Your Asian dragon is looking pretty good as well - but yeah, the KoW rules specifically state that monsters can have larger bases if the model needs them, so don't stress too much on that.

Thanks guys, mom is still I the rehab facility, and we have had our issues with them to the point of having a sit down this Wednesday with the facility director. One of the student nurses tried to put a DNR bracelet on my mom. Luckily one of my sisters was there to stop that. For those not in the know, DNR means do not resessitate. If she would have any sort of heart issue they would be completely hands off and would not try and get her going again. You have to ask for this, not an easy thing either.

The larger base would be a real disadvantage as these dragons take up a full base for arcane legions 80mm X 160mm, and they still hang off. I don't want to model for advantage, but I also don't want to try and maneuver around a mountain if I don't have too. I might see how the flying dragon would fit on a 80mm X 80mm.

What about being a bit creative and instead basing the Dragons as if there were, say, an appropriately-sized unit of 'Drakon Riders' and using those rules. Might give you a bit more space.

Putting a DNR bracelet on someone who hasn't asked for it... Christ. That could have ended badly! Kudos to your sister on the intercept! Glad to hear your mum is on the mend though!

Don't suppose you're going to call that dragon Shen-long are you?

@ Para, That might just be a brilliant idea, I'd have to twist the dragons head though as the way he sits on the base is 80x160 instead of 160 (front) by 80 deep. I'll look into that later today, as there are two of the same dragons I might be able to pull it off.
@ AoV, , I actually thought about naming him Tiny Tim as one of his legs keeps breaking off.

Well Miniaturemarket did it to me again. They had the core set of Mars Attacks on the deal of the day for $25. Normally it's $75 from mantic....so I got 3 I struggled all night with the idea of "do I need another game, especially mantic", but then between the terrain that could be used in Zombicide and the fact that their will be a martian army for warpath (most likely) I figured (60 martian troopers and 3 commanders, 30 soldiers, 27 civillians) this might be a great start. Plus I heard the game was.....decent enough..... great new slogan for mantic. "Our proof reading of our rules is decent enough" . If you don't get what I'm saying there you haven't been keeping an eye on the dungeon saga saga.
