Welcome to the Dakka Dakka Urban Dead thread for the zombie group known as The Nurglings, the zombie group started by Dakka Dakka MOD Manchu.
All Dakka members are welcome to play, but everyone must follow the Code of Conduct so that we don't bring discredit to Dakka Dakka and our fellow Dakkanauts.
Our group is currently located in the Crowbank and Vinetown suburbs of the game map. Look in the southeastern portion of the city.
Sign up for the game online here: http://www.urbandead.com/. It is free and available online at all times of the day.
Once you join, set your group name in your profile to The Nurglings and post a link to your player profile here so that the other Nurglings (about 32 players) can add you to their contacts list, which allows us to identify your character online in the game. Otherwise you are just another nameless zombie to us.
When you begin, the game may start you in a suburb far away from the horde's current location. Just look at the Wiki map, figure out where you are and walk to join us. We need you. Those humans are not going to eat themselves!
Code of Conduct in Urban Dead 1. Don't take it personal. You will die a lot and kill a lot in Urban Dead. Enjoy the street theater.
2. While having fun, behave like you would in Dakka. Do not use sexual, political, cultural, national, and racial insults.
3. No text raping or other deviant role playing.
Contact List See who else from Dakka is playing and build up your contact list:
1 Loosely barricaded* ~99%+
2–4 Lightly barricaded ~99%
5–7 Quite Strongly barricaded 97.8%
8–10 Very Strongly barricaded 85.1%
11-13 Heavily barricaded** 61.5%
14–16 Very Heavily barricaded** 38.0%
17–21 (And possibly as high as 23) Extremely Heavily barricaded** 20.5%
From the game wiki: "Barricades have multiple levels, that show their approximate strength and indicate how many AP it will take to destroy them completely. Each level has its own intricacies and build rates."
The percentages are the chance that survivor will increase the barricade level of that type. Note that it is not easy to increase levels from 14 on up.
You are inside Woodroffe Mall. Trails of looted debris litter the floors and escalators. The building has been extremely heavily barricaded. Also here are Kapa'a Boru (51HP) and George Zip (60HP).
A portable generator has been set up here. It is running low on fuel. The food court has been decorated with a carved pumpkin.

There is another zombie from your horde here. It's Lumpsneeze.

A portable generator has been set up here. It only has a little fuel left, enough to power a radio transmitter that's currently set to 26.70 MHz. One of the shops has been decorated with a carved pumpkin.
Somebody has spraypainted your typical city involved in a typical daydream onto a wall.
I believe the ban was that you remove your tag and stop using the old thread to coordinate your activities, I believe such a thing would also extend to this thread as well. If we called you up to help pop a building you would be playing with us once again and associated with the group in action and in deed. That is what the ban is preventing. Master of Ordinance, it might just be better if you took your zed and moved it to another suburb.

However is this a Nurglings thread, as there already is one. If this is a Nurgling thread (and there already is one), i will ignore it. If not, and it is just a generis thread then i will continue to use it as i see fit. We will see where this goes.

I think the OP makes pretty clear its a nurgling thread...
Dreadclaw69 wrote: Ok, just out of curiosity what is text rape? Spamming the screen with text?
Nope, it's when someone posts a graphic description of raping another player in a text-based game.
OK....that was my second thought which is what i was hoping it wasn't
I figure I may as well give it a go (the game, not text raping ). Character made (Deceased Claw) and I'm slowly making my way to the group after staring in South Blythville. I made it was far as Kempsterbank before I ran (shuffled) out of AP
If you're going through Kempsterbank, say hello to the Knights Templars, the jovial group that 'loves' us and 'adores' us so much that they've sent 'hit squads' after us.

So what you're saying is that I've picked the perfect place to run out of AP?
Manchu wrote: Glad to have you aboard! It only takes a few minutes of your day but it can be great fun when played in a horde.
Thank you. First time trying text based browser games so we'll see what damage I can do
As a fledgling zed, I suggest that you stick around for some of us to pull you up a meal, get you a few kills, and you grab Lurching Gait (which lets you spend 1AP to move instead of 2), and Ankle Grab (you stand up for 1AP instead of 10). From there, you're pretty much free to grab what you want. If you ever want to grab human skills, I don't suggest you take Brain Rot as it makes it harder for you get revived.

Thank you.
I'd seen Lurching Gait as maybe the first skill to make myself a little more mobile. How important/useful is it to have human skills as a zed?
Decently useful, there is some crossover like Scent Death and Diagnose (Scent Death is 100 more XP to get though), Body Building is useful as it grants you 10 more HP, and spending some time to find a flak jacket is good because it does the same thing as Flesh Rot but you don't have to take Brain Rot first to get it.
Question regarding Zerging, I have a human alternate now living in Vinetown, when/if we make our way back there and I don't let anyone on here know who my human alternate is and I play him as a complete separate entity without any bias is this still considered Zerging?
Technically no; zerging is using multiple accounts to multiply a single player's efforts -- but it really is for the best if you keep alts several neighborhoods away from one another.
Looking at the map. SE mall open, ruined, and empty of all breather. Gennie needs popping. Moved over to the six zeds doing the Electric Dead Slide in SW of mall that has been EHB
Manchu wrote: Technically no; zerging is using multiple accounts to multiply a single player's efforts -- but it really is for the best if you keep alts several neighborhoods away from one another.
+1 Your alts should never come within in 10 blocks of each other, or the same blocks within a day or so. Not only may you face the game's automatic anti-cheating measures, and it's the standard for the ZL, but you won't be playing as separate entities. You'll know more than you should.
E, will your human alt waste ap making a trip to that X your zed just ruined? Or will he know to spend his ap more wisely? Maybe take an outdoor shortcut instead of what he would find is a smashed freerunning lane to another X? When his safehouse comes up as a target will he wait to be devoured by the Nurglings or will he always be a step ahead? Let's say your human overhears another survivor mention they're heading to where you were thinking about sending your Z, or just repaired that X that your Z might check, but it needs more cades. Are you going to have your Z attack the wrong building? If this seems extreme, I've never seen a counterargument for why your alt has to stay in the vicinity that was worth a damn. Even if your alt does nothing but RPing, or count headshots he still affects how you and others spend AP. If you have so little impact on the area then there's no reason you won't be able to leave, otherwise you should choose a side. Have you ever tried try the Great North-West? It has . . . . . . well, maybe the SW.

You've made some good points there, its not a problem for him to move on, im not very well established in the area anyway. And it was just a strange coincidence that I started off in a similar area.
In Tollyton now, nutpunched Dreadclaw to say hello, and Kronk for good measure

JS is a survivor but, from what he has told me so far, he appears to be an experienced Urban Dead player who likes to have a peek at other players and groups (and coach from the sidelines). He's a PKer rather than a KT, I think. Ask him if you like. He will probably give you a lengthy, well thought out response.
I'd be interested to hear his side of things, experiences in UD, etc... I've got an unaffiliated alt north of us by a few suburbs, and it's weird trying to survive on my own.
Alf, wana send your survivor to Whittensdie and we can set up that group I was talking about before my break? DAForever was going to be my right hand man but I don't think he's active even on Dakka these days. Forewarning, Whittensdie is a whole other level of difficult. It's like playing Urban Dead if 90% of people played Zeds. Brilliant fun though. Just drop me a pm and I'll send you all the details we had worked out.

I have a very quiet existence for my alt, he gets up, checks the hospital to make sure his dying kid has been turned into a zed, nips on down to the local store to grab some food, and then returns to his hideout where he provides a safeplace to rest for other survivors.

Head for Whittensdie my friend. I'll pm DA's F to see if he's still up for it but if not I'll be needing a new Chief to keep it running. We had some cool ideas for the group. It's a very pro needle combat style that we are going for. More details soon.

Gripping Amedeo Altisi Marica by the shoulders, you crush them for 3 damage. They die.
Got de Eyetalian Spaghetti Bender. WOOT
K.O. Bring up the map on Wiki and pretty much keep abreast on where we are at in town. Right now we're east of the mall at some FD.....we're a bit scattered around the south of the mall

Ok. I did go and bang a bit on them factory barricades. Fellow Zeds, add me so I can see you!
Oh come on! 29 AP and I didn't even do one bit of damage to 'loosely barricaded'. I don't know if the level of barricade makes a difference, but if it does then that's all the worse.

Ugh... stupid Knights Templars are a bunch of two faced jerkwads. Was given a bit of leeway from one of their members since I found myself alive and looking to gain some human skills, find me a flak jacket, and that stupid Yisselda Icebytch comes in and blasts me. Bytch is right.

@DA Forever,
I doubt there are many RRF players in or around Tollyton, but any help is welcome in cracking open buildings so that we can get to the delicious brains inside.
There were a lot of zombies that I didn't know at the Factory SW of the mall. Of 15 zombies there, I only recognized six.
In the hospital next to the mall. One breather dead, one stopped in for a second (and saw 11 zombies and left). Just needs ruining and some generators destroyed.

You're free to choose brain rot, but it simply makes it harder to ever become a human and level those skills. Like my survivor alt is sitting with 500 xp he can't use until I go and get myself killed

Thanks, figured it'd be Lurching Gate. Mouvement is such an action sink. I also just got my first alt survivor to Free Running. Holy Gawd that makes things easier.

Most of the survivors in Tollyton seem to be trying to fight back (at least I haven't been killed too recently and I was gone for like 4 days ), but when we were in Vinetown, it would not be uncommon for someone to kill me or more simply, revive me and force me to waste 10 AP on stand up, a bunch of AP on being alive, and then 10 more AP on standing back up as a zombie... Ankle grab is worth it's weight in gold in the saved AP alone.
motyak wrote: St Boniface's hospital, 7 people inside, I'm starting to eat them
St. Boniface is once more at HB. I stopped outside for a few hours and got shot in the face right away so it seems like the harmanz are very active there. I suggest we gather in numbers to breach it... Usual time okay?
Ruined all of it except the south-west corner as there is a breather still in there, I've infected him and put myself in his way, so if any one else can get in we should be able to over run the place.

Oh, you mean the red carpet.
Also I'm trying to grab a few survivor skills, wandered through the mall and nut punched Kronk while I was passing by.
Also, nurglings, if I axe you, it's not on purpose (and I'm not killing anything as a human atm), it's just because I don't have you added to my contacts. If this is the case, send me a PM and I'll add you.
I'm hoping I can soon return to that sweet sweet undeath, but there is far too much work to do in Tollyton to waste AP on me.

Just be aware, if you've played other browser games. This one is slow. Real slow.
Of course I'm a newb and I didn't check the tutorials, but it took me 2 weeks to level up the first time.
On the Survivor side, it's rough gathering supplies when you're level 1. You're left hoping that the buildings you need to search aren't barricaded.
I started a Cop and a Soldier as survivors, and now that I'm level 2 and can Free Run (move between buildings without going outside) it's fun as hell. I've heard that scientists were really useful if you intend on playing with a group.
Playing as a Zombie is fun too, and it seems to require a lot less planning. Me and the other Nurgs have been busy ramsacking a mall and the surroundings area, and the brainz just keep on coming.
So, yeah, a really fun game, which will not make you lose too much time each day (looking at you Stronghold Kingdoms), but that you can play for years. I mean, it must take years to get to level 43.

It can't take too long to hit level 43-45. I mean my survivor has really only been active since like October and he's already like level 30 (needs to grab himself some zed skills).

The way I see it, Death Grip would make more sense because all my XP comes from punching people or bears. Ankle Grab would make sense if death was imminent or likely. In the last week, I've died perhaps once or twice, so I feel the amount of AP lost was marginal.
Does this compute for yall too? And if so, is it likely that we'll be attacked more inside the next 1-2 weeks?

Ankle Grab, because you spend 1 or 5 AP to stand back up, instead of 10 or 15. We're also not really getting much resistance from what I've seen, but in places where we'll die several times attacking a place, Ankle grab becomes worth it's weight in gold.

Grazioli is a classy guy. He has wandered by and said hello a few times.
I don't know when we'll stroll back that way but it is nice to know that there are some very active human groups around to make the game fun.
I still have a yen to hunt down a few folks in Crowbank.

I was getting combat revived like crazy when I was just starting out, and it was infuriating because of how much AP I'd waste.
The harmanz in Vinetown still seem a mite confused...

They ain't too smurt in Crowbank. I popped into Gerrish Square Fire Station, damaged their genny and hid a few buildings away... One of the guys in there finds me and heals me...

Idk if you were working on that genny Manchu, but I popped the genny, went to work on the transmitter, and then booked it out of there (trying to keep up appearances until someone comes along and kills me in cold blood )
For any of our newer members in Crowbank that need some AP...
I found this outside of Dane Street
You are standing outside Dane Street Police Dept, a narrow concrete building. The building has been extremely heavily barricaded. Also here is Kradern (31HP).
There is a dead body here.
He is a level 1 survivor, that I've infected, he is now at 28. So get feeding boys, let's welcome him, with the gift of undeath.
Manchu wrote: Alf, what's your take on Crowbank? Seems pretty well empty to me.
The last time we were there, there weren't many brains to eat as we were searching for Jerden and his 2iC. The resistance was pretty much non-existent, and we didn't meet much issue trying to crack buildings for the few brains that we found.
This time around they seem to just be existing albeit in small numbers, and barely at that. I've gone around and damaged or popped about 4 gennies with 0 retaliation. I know that the game only tells you who destroyed the generator, but there have been a few times where I've been the one to destroy the genny, hide 1 building over and then log in the next day to find myself, not only still alive, but sometimes someone will heal me!
They don't make them too smart in Crowbank, which might be why Jerden 'rules' Crowbank.

Ankle Grab, we're about to go back to a place where combat revives is a valid tactics of the harmanz to use to make us waste AP. Taking Ankle grab ensures that if they 'waste' the needle, you're really only wasting 1 to 2 AP.
Ok I'm back In , just murdered someone, are we coordinating again or just being random? I am in crowbank atm. I think I just killed one of us, oh well Polaria will be pleased to know I have added them to my contacts list

PKer is a term for harmanz who kill other harmanz. So calling zombahz PKers is pretty insulting.
Thing is, stupid harmanz poke me with needles and imagine that makes me one of them. And then they call me nasty names when it turns out I'm still a zombah.
But who am I to complain? Their brainz are probably so tasty because they are not spoiled by thinking.
