After finally having cleared my Painting table. I'm starting on a complete reboot of my SoB army. They began in '97 as a Valorous Heart army that I played well into 4ed before getting out of 40k until the last year of 5ed. All of the old models will be getting redone as an Argent Shroud army. I intend to build units in excess of a tourney sized army. Allowing me to play much bigger games and have a large selection of units to pick from for smaller tourney sized forces.
I'm starting with my priest contingent, headed up by a Uriah Jacobson "counts as" model and five ministorum priests built from the GW Hospitaller model. These are basically just cut and pinned so far. Still have some filling to do as well as some sculpts to flesh out the fabric where it was cut and add in some fluer- de-lys where needed or where the existing ones were removed to allow repositioning of the priests arms. Still considering some head repositioning on some of the poses to make them more dynamic. The power mauls were kit bashed from dialogus models and the mauls taken from the sister superior equipped with one. All of these models will be combined with the two flame Canoness SoB backpack after painting.
Any thoughts on which ones could stand to be reworked, or what might be added are appreciated. Thx.

Thank you, that's what I'm hoping to be able to carry through with this army. Nothing too risky, just some subtle changes here and there to update them a bit.
Got some more work done on my Priest models, filled in all the joints, few fluer here and there. Added some bits. They're currently primed waiting for me to get time to put some paint on them.
Did get some work done on my Living Saint model. I'm not liking the bird in her left hand, thinking of trading it out for a hand flamer, or a horn (musical type, straight bugle type thing). Didn't like the hair on the model so I added some pretty happy with the result. Currently leaning more toward the hand flamer.
Went with the wings off of Astorath, chopped them onto a SoB backpack. The Living Saint is primed as well, may be the first model I put paint too, looking forward to getting started, need a reward before I start assembling rhino/immo/exo's.
Thoughts + Comments appreciated.

Thanks! I want to keep the wings dark, but would love to have some shading effect that brightens them up a bit near the top to frame her face. They just have an eshin gray drybrush with a wash of nuln oil over them currently. Not sure if I should build the highlights up to the top lightening towards white or something else? Hoping to have the wings somehow be able to "reflect" an aura frame behind her head. A halo effect without the halo if thats possible. Going to have to do some research I think, and some tinkering.
Will have some time off coming up, hopefully can devote a good deal of time into the army. After the HQ and Priests, have a bunch of vehicles to assemble, then I intend to work on a squad at a time while I try to get games in.

Still not entirely sure about the sword, happier with this than the earlier version. May come back to her later on once I get more elements done in the army and decide what way I want to go with the power weapon effects. Still have to get to work assembling Rhino/Immo's and work on Uriah and my Priests. Completed Living Saint, thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

Started working on my "counts as" Uriah Jacobson. Still trying to come up with an idea to model "her" banner for WYSIWYG purposes. This is the only model I have that isn't a GW sculpt. Had to add some Fluer to bring her into the look of a Sororitas army. Think the actual figure has a flame emblem here and there that I used as a base for the green stuff Fluer. They may not be as pronounced as I'd hoped but after several attempts that were way to big, I'm pretty happy with these. Was pretty happy with how the eyes came out, used an orb of ulthuan gray, bisected it with a line of enchanted blue, then framed it in with the flesh color to avoid the "buggy" eye look. Can't see it in the pictures I guess. Will try and get a better one up. Plan on using the same technique for the entire army. So if it looks bad, let me know! A couple of WIP shots with a few of the completed model, thoughts and criticisms appreciated.
Now I need to decide whether or not to work on my Priests or start assembling vehicles.

I believe so. Was given to me by a player who was replacing it in his collection. I'm pretty happy with how she came out.
Got some work done on my first Ministorum Priest. Still have some work to do on the armor shading and highlights, some brightening of the red and what not. I'm wondering if the hood could use a bit of red around the outside of the cowl? Seems flat to me, could use some input.

Thanks for the comments guys. Wanted to get an update in after spending most of the week assembling and cleaning vehicles. Did get a chance to do the armor, block painting and some of the washes on Priest #3. Can finally start getting in some games with the army once I get the new Sisters pinned and based. Exorcists aren't as frustrating to assemble as drop pods, but they're close.
Three Exorcists, 5 Rhino/Immolators and the 20ish Sisters needed to fill my squads out to get to 1850 points for some games. I have all the SoB icons for the vehicles cleaned up, wasn't entirely sure how I wanted to assign those, random or in some form of pattern, but the vehicles will be getting them once I decide.

Thx Peregrine, got some work done today on my own Nephilim "counts as" Avenger. I put the cannons where the heavy bolters would have gone on the regular model, just outside the "mega-bolter". A little shaving of the fuselage and they fit fine. Trying to figure out where to put some SoB icons on the wings. I have a few sets of the plastics form Immo's, just not sure where I want them yet.
Got the #3 Priestess done, if I don't have to spend the entirety of my free time tomorrow shoveling snow, I'll hopefully have time to primer all my recent assemblies and start on Priestess #4. Thoughts and comments appreciated, as always!

Well, after a year and a half work interruption I have finally made some progress working on my Sisters. I've been able to average about 30 minutes a week over that time. I've been painting the Sisters one color at a time, working up the base color and shading to where I can field them but will have to go back and do highlights to bring them in line with the look of my Priests and Living Saint. Currently have 9 vehicles that I'm doing much the same with, just been able to get through the base color and a bit of shading. No highlights as of yet. Feel that I need to start putting something up or I'll lose what little momentum I have going.
To start off, snapshot of the progress so far on one of my dominion squads. The entire army is currently at this stage.
Current state of all the Vehicles. Was able to poach Ebay to get enough Exorcist bits to make sure all my Rhino's had the front plate. Currently in the process of picking out the base color for the scroll work. The white area is pretty much where I want it, the red still needs several layers of highlights.
This is my first Seraphim squad before the grey base was painted on their robes. Currently operating without packs until the details are picked out providing escort for Celestine.
These models are currently involved in a power tool experiment to put a different look on the next Seraphim squad. Will most likely be blended in with the first to spread the look around. Converted some inferno pistol girls up. Might paint them up just to make sure I have the option to field them. Will be painting up some flamer seraphim for the second Seraphim squad as well
Possible newb Hereticus Inquisitor model I was tinkering with, libram and null rod I think? Would be used along with servo-skulls.
Thanks for humoring me on reviving the thread, hoping to be able to use it to keep the momentum going. If work ever lets off the pace we're on, might actually get this army done!

Thanks. The power mauls are made from the top of the sororitas sister superior with maul
and the top end of the staff from the Sister Dialogus mated to the bottom end of it with the hand area removed.
There was some cable that had to be removed, then some pinning, but it came out alright in the end. The Dialogus models may get repurposed as Servitors, I just removed the staff arm at the end of the sleeve, not sure as of yet. I have a lot of sisters models, and have been able to clip and cut where needed to get the bits I wanted. The hands on the Priests are either from the chirurgeon model or from the Canoness 2.0 blister.

When the Immolator disappeared from the GW website I bought up several Exorcists to get some additional Rhino/Immolator kits. Which left me with a bit of Exorcist bits laying around. A quick trip to ebay for some cheap pre painted Rhino's, a few dozer blades I have had sitting around forever, and some cities of death bitz and I have the first of what will end up being six repressor conversions for my Sisters.
The flat top hatch will be getting the stormbolter while the cupola gets the pintle mounted heavy flamer. As much as I like the Exorcist armor plates, think I'll be off today to order some FW sororitas rhino doors to complete the look. I haven't gotten to using any of the Immolator bling to dress the kit up just yet, but they'll probably be getting some before they go into the painting stage.
Finally have a bit of time today, so there may be a few more updates coming shortly on different parts of the project. I find the church look of the vehicle to be just ridiculous enough to be exactly what a bunch of battle nuns would love to ride around in blowing stuff up. As always, thoughts and comments appreciated!

Finally got some time to get back to work on the Repressor project, the first three are ready for painting, fourth will be getting the last bit of FW icons and scrollwork added today. Hopefully all will be primed and ready to start painting this weekend. I got tired of looking at the odd dozer blade on the blue body repressor, so I ordered enough to match all of the them to the style on the red rhino body repressors. The plan is to paint each of the eventual six repressors for each of the major Orders. I couldn't really salvage the last two rhino bodies from ebay, so I'll be building the sacred and bloody rose repressors from brand new rhino's. Thoughts and comments appreciated.

First four are primed. Still waiting on the additional dozer blades to make them all a cohesive force.
Idea for the paint jobs is to have a cohesive "base" look to all the vehicles. I'm hoping to use the six different Orders robe/color schemes to differentiate them just enough so each represents one of the different original Orders. I'll be experimenting with it a bit, but I do intend to use some print outs of the Order banners to create murals on the chapel panels as well as adding some relic and candle bits along the topside of the rhino alongside chapel portion, still working on ideas for those but I'm hoping they will blend the top into the bottom as well as pushing them just a little bit further over the zealot threshold.
Thoughts and Comments appreciated!

I have a bunch of Valorous Heart Sisters that I started back when first came out. My painting skills are a bit better than they were back then. Other than that I intend to paint out the individual squads to represent just a bit of each of the other black armored Orders to represent a very small crusade force. The Order specific repressors are intended to be a part of this. I'll build my Bloody Rose and Sacred Rose from scratch. Hate to say it, but I have several hundred Sisters that are just in bags that will lend their weight to those.
Thanks for all the comments, dunno about anyone else, but the Plog interaction really keeps me motivated and painting. And on that note, the first Repressor dedicated to the Order of Our Martyred Lady is getting a lot closer to being done. Pics and lighting aren't great, my apologies but I'm just using my phone.

Gitsplitta wrote:Hey drac, I'm not familiar with sisters all that well. What exactly is a "repressor"? Is it just a sisters rhino or is there more to it than that?
Its a forge world transport for the Sisters. Transports 10, armor is 13/11/10, 3 hull points, storm bolter and heavy flamer for weapons. There is a raised crew compartment that adds to the two base fire points by allowing three additional weapons to be fired from each side.
The FW kit is kind of ugly if you ask me, just plain. I had acquired some eBay rhino's as part of some trades. One conversation with the guy at my LGS about crazy zealot church tanks and a bit of city of death pieces and here you are.
Kind of a nasty tank with Sisters weaponry, especially with 13 front armor. Dominion squads scouting up loaded up with meltaguns can be fun.

Got a bit of time tonight and while waiting on a wash to dry I got distracted by some of my original Valorous Heart seraphim. I've been wanting to update the paint scheme for a bit without spending too much time doing it. And came up with a decent enough compromise that turns them into Order of the Martyred Lady.
The one on the left is one of my original seraphim painted way back in 2nd edition, the one on the right has had the robes, gloves, face, pouches and weapons repainted, washed and highlighted with the idea of just getting them done quickly. I have cleaned off the old basing and started basing these up to match my Argent Shroud army so they fit as allies or as part of a multiple Order crusade.
The entire five girl squad with just the one yet to be worked on. I haven't gotten to the faces on the 3 non seraphim superior girls just yet.
I plan on painting my old army up in small segments each devoted to a different Order based off black power armor. So some Martyred Lady, some Ebon Chalice and some will remain Valorous Heart, though I suspect I will change them up a bit just to get rid of the mixed order paint schemes of the original army.
Thoughts and Comments appreciated!

Then the Repressor project (six total) and three Penitent Engines to get them to 1850.

Got a chance to do a bit of work on my Valorous Heart Repentia Living Saint today. Not sure exactly on the balance of colors across her armor, undergarments, torn/tied robes and what not. The Valorous Heart robe colors don't exactly give me much to work with, especially since I repainted my Valorous Heart BSS squad with all black robes. The pics here are after an hour or so of tinkering with the skin tones, starting to pick out some of the block colors and just after applying the first coats of aggrax/nuln to their respective areas. Wash was settled but nowhere near dry. I picked this Repentia model because her right eye has this haunted, crazed look to it. I spent a lot of time trying to capture just the right shape of eye to make it come through.
Did it work? Thoughts and Comments appreciated!

It may all wind up being pointless, but I want it to be dark to go with my Valorous Heart sisters robe colors, which are all black. Just with a lot more detail thrown in. Something you don't notice at first but will surprise you when you get close.

The purple is liche purple with a genestealer purple highlight washed with drucchi violet.
Bit more work done tonight. Model got gloss coated before I went to work. The cloak isn't done, have a bunch of decals I'm hoping to add to it (black fleur- de-lys and a black Templar cross in the center) that I will then highlight and give a coat of good old GW black ink. Looking for black images sewn onto a black cloak. Not sure if it'll show up, after that it's just basing and a dull coat.

Post by: dracpanzer
Well, got a lot of work done today on the Repentia Saint's cloak. Worked in a ton of fleur and a Templar cross. Highlighted everything to a standard I was very happy with. I believe I went wrong by not highlighting with Dawnstone rather than Eshin Gray. Tried to copy the effect I easily get on my Raven Guard and completely negated all the decal and highlight work in 30 seconds. No real way to work the ink off without obliterating the rest of the paint job. So I just highlighted the cloak up plain over the ink and am calling her done except for some basing.
Very disappointed with my Repentia Living Saint.

Thanks everyone! I'm very pleased with how the Repressor conversion has turned out. Wish I could claim the inspiration for it, but I was involved in the conversation at least! (thx Dave!)
Been pushing ahead on my Crusade Army repaint of my old 2ed/3ed Sisters army.
Ebon Chalice Battle Sisters Squad complete.
Next project on the paint table. Finishing up a Repentia Squad, they will be painted as several members of each Order in the army grouped together. The Repentia Mistress is from the Order of the Argent Shroud, but I will explain that later.
Now just some other images of my Living Saint (who I am liking a lot more now and will probably do some work on her cloak to brighten it up a bit now that looking at it doesn't make me angry. Then all my completed Repressors. Thoughts and Comments appreciated!

I got them in a trade a few years ago from a guy who threw them in because he had moved on from his Crimson Fists and was never going to do anything with them. Love the look, great stuff.
Thanks, I still plan on adding candles and stuff to all the repressors, but I love the way a bit of bits really take some old Rhino's and dial them up on the crazy zealot scale to Sisters level.

The toucan of red really make them pop as a unit. Nice choice.

Got quite a bit done today, the Repentia schemes are Order specific, liked the Martyred Lady ones with the red. But I'm happier with the Ebon Chalice ones with white robes. One days progress, six Repentia done and the remaining three are done with most of the block work. Hopefully those and the Mistress tomorrow. Thoughts and Comments appreciated!

Really digging those repentia! I love the way you applied the colours to them, they seem a bit more "muted" than most I've seen and I think it looks great. Would love to see a bigger pic of them.

Thx everyone, I'm very happy with how they are turning out. Got a bit of painting in tonight after a long day at work, calling it for the night after finishing the last three Repentia for the squad and getting a bit more block work done on the Mistress. Thoughts and comments appreciated!

Thanks Git! I've been locked in rain/fog/haze/deluge of humidity for over a week now, still waiting to gloss coat her and then get some decals on. In further news, my crusade force Sororitas command squad is complete.

Great Sisters of Battle and fantastic conversions of the tanks to make Repressors.

PS: The Canoness model as the Mistress of Repentia was just such a good idea.

Thanks, I just couldn't stomach the actual Mistress model.
Got to work on the Gold effect for all the armor plates and what not tonight.
First layer of Gold with a wash of Aggrax Earthshade.
A light drybrush with the original gold with a bit of stipling to get it to look even with only small recesses.
Light drybrush of mithril silver, small bit of stipling, and a light layer of Aggrax Earthshade.
The same three steps on the loose plates from the Sacred Rose Repressor.

Very nice force, argent shroud is one of my favourite sisters paint schemes. I agree with EDC the white/red is a more striking scheme in my opinion and I'd go with that.

Thinking of going with all red robes instead of white/red, thoughts?
Fantastic update dracpanzer,
Tough call on the robes because the white is so similar to the silver armour, but that would mean repainting a lot of models. I say stick with what you have...if you really want to try the change pick a single squad to test it on...usually a squad you only have one of in the army (I would suggest Celestians, but I know your thoughts on them is the same as mine. )
Hope that helps,

Most certainly, I'm not sure if I will field her, but she will be getting painted up. Assuming I can get one, did GW announce on FB that she would be available Direct after the initial shipment sells out?

If it says anything, the Dark Eldar were in a box on the 14th and we played our game on the 17th. My son didnt even glue his fingers to anything.
Going to go hide in the hobby room and work on my Celestian condemnor conversions while I plot out my Seraphim Superior to Gemini conversions.
Enjoy the holidays! Automatically Appended Next Post: Four Condemnor Boltgun armed Celestians. Good or do they still need work?

Got some work done on converting a few metal Seraphim Superiors over to be Gemini for when the new unit hits from FoCadia. I don't have any intention to buy any new models and wanted to use some of my never used Seraphim Superiors as Gemini to go with my metal St. Celestine. Nothing against the new models, just prefer the metal Celestine. Might just be the 200ft of purity seal dragging in the mud, who knows.
Been working on my new Canoness Veridyan, painting her up in Argent Shroud colors since I realized I actually don't have a Canoness for that force.

Very nice Drac,
I have also decided not to go into plastic sisters and stick with my metal sisters as a point of pride.
However I converted my extra Seraphim Superiors into regular Seraphim with two Bolt Pistols or into Superiors for other squads.
Your conversions are top notch as always. Exalted.
