I guess i will start this one off, since orks are so random in their way, i have really wanted to sit down around a metaphorical fire with fellow forum members to discuss the greatest tales of randomness and glory
Not so long ago, on a table top not so far away, i played in a 3 player free for all style game (as i had a couple of friends over, and we all wanted to play a game). i was in one corner, as orks, another of us playing guard in the mid section of the board (though there was no disadvantage to this) and the last one of us playing the chaos marines from the starter set. We played 500 points each as the chaos player was relatively new to the game and so had limited models. We decided that combats between two players could be shot at by the third player, and that these combats would be fought only in the turns of the players involved to balance it a bit more.
the game was pretty standard for most of the game (standard kill points) as i had 2 squads of boyz and a squad of gretchin with my mega armored warboss (and yes, the gretchin are cannon fodder). i lost most of my first boy squad to a crushing chaos assault and then was foolish to let the other squad poke their heads out of cover and into the firing line of the guard who had no hesitation in wiping half of the squad before the boyz darted back into cover (and didnt do much for the rest of the game). my warboss proceeded to attack and wipe half the chaos ladz with the support of the remaining boyz from the first squad, meanwhile (as i left to get some snacks for a minute) my opponents had made a less than secret pact not to fire upon each other and to double team ME, poor warboss and his gretchin followers! (to be fair, the boyz were getting lucky with their roles and seemed to be a real danger).
i did what every ork would do and told them to BRING IT XD you see, the hellbrute was getting closer and closer to the guard player, who was starting to worry about its melee abilities. Instead however, when it came to his turn, the guard player decided to turn on the pact he had made (much to the amusement of myself), and so he shot every last las pistol, las gun, grenade launcha, las cannon, auto cannon and missile launcher at the hellbrite, throwing dice about the place in a frenzy of shooting attempts! one after another, shot after shot he whiffed and failed either to hit or wound! after recovering from a fit of laughing as the attempts became more and more desperate, but just as unlucky, the hellbrute saw my warboss in the middle of the table and thought it better to try and kill him as this could be the last turn (and he could get a couple of kill points for it), he seemed to be in charge range, and this could be an easy kill for the hell brute, but the charge failed! I had the win at this point, and it was my turn, the game could end! I quickly calculated the chance of my warboss being killed by the hell brute in combat as VERY high, roughly 70% chance of a dead warboss, but before deciding to stay safe and keep the win, in true ork spirit (while still feeling slightly sad for my friends unlucky charge fail) i charged forward! My charge with the warboss was successful. the hell brute attacked first, hitting with three attacks, he wounded twice and so i would need to save 2 5+ saves from my invul! after realizing i would probably fail at least one roll (which would kill the warboss), we did a quick victory point count, and there was only a two point difference between myself and the chaos player, if my warboss dies, then we will draw! SO ..... i rolled them onto the table.... double 5! My warboss had taken a hit to the face that would have crushed a tank, and laughed it off. Then he swung my power klaw and hit with 4 attacks before destroying the hell brute..... the game then ended. the snacks had finished, and the board was cleared.
SO..... care to tell your tale of awesomeness?

I hope this thread gets moved to the proper part of the forum but is allowed to continue its existence.
The craziest thing that ever happened to me started when a squad of last edition's melta vets blew up a Necron Overlord's pimpwagon (*cough, cough* catacomb commmand barge). The explosion killed a vet and wounded the overlord with his 2+ armor.
Next came the assault phases. The first time round, they charged in on the angry overlord, who cut down 3 veterans, including 2 meltas, and the boys barely passed their morale check. 6 vets left? No problem! Next time around, the remaining veterans scored 3 hits, then 2 wounds. The fact that my friend rolled double 1's was the funniest thing I had seen up till that point.
That was the Necron's assault phase. Next came my turn. The rest of the game was pretty grim. There were 1 or 2 other squads left with no vehicular support and Necrons everywhere. I began to pull back to my board edge to grab the game's relic that I had already tried to claim. Then, one veteran wheeled around.
The trooper with the army's single remaining antivehicle weapon popped a snapshot at a passing Night Scythe. A lucky hit, a failed evasion, a pen on 1d6 (outside 6"), and an Explodes! result. Lawl.
A turn and a half later I was tabled, but I won 2 huge morale victories in a row.

One of my friends wanted to try out a fairly competitive blood angels build, so I saddled him up with a corbulo + hammernators squad in a stormraven. He uses up the corbulo reroll to get them in on turn 2, and drops them into assault turn 3. I, of course, told him to make sure and get Corbulo in base contact so he could tank normal 3+/2+ fnp wounds for the rest of the squad.
Two successful wounds get through, corbulo tanks, rolls two 2's. fnp? Two ones. Literally died to the first two s4 hits to come his way.

Your friend has clearly lost favor with the Dice Gods. May he present a more pleasing offering prior to the next game.

Several occasions I can recall right now. 1: Something similar to Kiln's heroic Veterans. Had a single surviving Stormtrooper knock out 2 Destroyers and then a Monolith within a single game. 2: My brother's Fire Warriors rapid-firing desperately at my Terminators. 20 Pulse Rifle shots. 6 wounds. 5 failed armour saves. 1 instakilled ~220pt unit. 3: My friend once misteleported his Necron Overlord (as well as an entire squad of 5-6 Immortals to which it was attached) into a building. It was literally the only distance and direction that could have screwed him over, a total Murphy's Law roll. 4: Not quite as dramatic, but I once instakilled a Farseer/Autarch (forget which) with a Land Speeder's Assault Cannon during the first game turn.

Uh the best background story is of the Ork who traveled in time and killed himself so he could get two of his awesome pistol. That's pretty much the end of that.

Its a rather dumb story, eh.
I am fond of my melta guns melting things, personally.
Such as the Stompa, which, back in the old Apoc rules, could get chain reaction'd to death, which, with stupid crazy awesome rolls (and rerolls!) happened, so with two melta gun shots, a Super Heavy was destroyed, and killed the two gunners with an apocalyptic explosion, good times.
Another time when my gunner was on the edge of board, regrouped, and snap fired at the 10W DoM, killing it.
And still melta related, my Hades Drill scattered under a Land Raider, exploded it, killing a few Zerkers in the explosion, and putting a wound or two on the many Carnifexes that were around.

I remember when I was playing with SoB against nids, and his carnifex had to roll respectively 3d6 pick highest and 2d6 pick highest for movement in the movement and shooting phase. He rolled FIVE FETHING ONES. Seriously.
That was the same game I said to him 'On a 2+, he'll lose his last wound meaning you won't have any more models on the table.' At that point, he still had a few units in reserves. But of course, I don't need to tell you what I rolled next

I only had 6 models left on board, all Tesla immortals. My opponent also had but one unit left, a pack of 12 Bloodletters.
They charged. Then they charred.
6 rolls of 6 resulted in all 12 of them getting crispy, and eking out a draw for me.
Had a similar situation with an Annihilation Barge, a Stormraven was wrecking gak up and then 4 6s happened.
To be fair, I barely managed to glance it to death, but still.

Squad of Grey Hunters doubletaps with bolters.
15 hits. 12 rolls of 1 for an armor save.

Blood Angels had decended onto the small world of Tarvak VII, where a Tau force had slowly been gathering strength for several weeks as the expansion of space was to begin again. With only a small strike force, the Blood Angels struck with malice, lead by Dante himself, the golden warrior cut through much of the Tau defence with little resistance losing his Sanguinary guard (?) to a final gunline, leaving Dante alone. Filled with the fury due to the loss of his brothers, Dante charged the enemy commander and the last Crisis Suit protecting him smashed the xenos commander aside. Turning, Dante got a robotic fit to the face, rolled a unfortunate amount of 1s and fell to a single Crisis Suit in CC... Take that Dante!!!

My personal favourite was quite a long time ago. Back in 4th edition when Broodlords were an HQ choice.
Had a three man Free for all game with my Tyranids vs Brothers Tau vs Brother in laws Eldar.
First two turns virtually my whole army was vaporised off the table, Hive tyrant with guard, carnifex, troops, you name it, it got annihilated off the board. My Broodlord and his genestealer buddies had done a glory charge across the board while the army disappeared behind them, genestealers were gone, I had the broodlord left and the Tau and Eldar started hitting each other thinking I had been "neutered"...
The broodlord smashed into the the enemy lines and ended up taking out more points worth of units than anything else on the table, he demolished fire warrior teams, tore eldar rangers to pieces, rended tanks open, and generally was the most lucky, dominant, last model stand I have ever seen or been involved with. Kept me in the game almost to the end
Needless to say, to this day my brother and brother in law both fear broodlords, and they are high on the priority list in case lightning does indeed strike the same place twice

I've had some memorable moments with Marines and Chaos Marines.
One game Marines v Wolves Bjorn came stomping up to my lines and proceeded to gobble up my Honour Guard, of which I only had 3 at the time, the next turn he throws my Pred in the air and it seems like he's gonna destroy the helpless Tactical Squad a few inches away, but lucky Squad Sarge gets off a combi-melta shot and Bjorn fails his invul. I get a 5 for results and he rerolls it for a 6! Kerpow!
Its always fun when I bring my tiny Khorne Warband out for a roll, they either die like dogs or they power fist everything in sight.
I've also had some very hard fought victories over the Tau recently that were also sweet. But let's face it, anyone should be happy with a win against the Tau! I also have some very crushing defeats to make up for too...

Teaching my GF to play.
I went and bought a box or Ork Boyz and some Grey Hunters to mix with my leftover Chaos Marines (this was after a 7 year hiatus so my once grand army was bitz and randoms) so I spend all day turning my Grey Hunters into a Chaps Space Wolf squad, conversion work, green stuff, the works. I finish and them let my GF put together her Orcs, she opts for a mix of dakka and shoota led by a Nob with powerklaw.
So they dry and I decide to give her a test game, we roll a little table up and deploy our two squads. After two rounds of shooting all she has left is 2 choppa boys and her nob versus my entire squad of Chaos Marines and Aspiring Champ with poweraxe. She charges, I "forget" to overwatch figuring I don't want to kill her off too early. First round of combat her two boys kill 5 of my CM, and the Nob splats another. My guys all
apparently decided to attack the air and fail to hit, next round she murders all but my leader (we were ignorant of challenge rules at the time). Another round of combat another round of swinging at air for my champ.
Finally another round and my guy once again fails to hit and she splats him.
Needless to say I was "blessed" with a new Chaos Spawn model after that battle

The time a single Eldar War Walker, beat a bloodthirster up.
Admittedly, the Thirster was already down to two wounds left. Combat lasted 5(!) rounds, with the Thirster repeatedly whiffing, or the Walker making his 5++ save against anything caused. It suffered a single glance. Best part was it getting out of combat, then getting destroyed by a bunch of rapid-fire bolters. Good times.

I think the greatest tho that ever happened to me in my 40k career was in a game with my Orks vs Blood Angels. I was running a squad of nob bikers with a warboss with powerfist and a painboy. I don't remember much of the rest of my list but I know that by the time my bikers made it into my opponents deployment we had both lost a lot of units.
The blood angels had a storm raven that had dropped to hover in hopes of killing my nobs. All that was left was my warboss with one wound and my painboy with one wound after his shooting.
The war boss moves and makes an 11 inch charge on the stormraven.
Hits 3 times, 2 pens.
Explosion.
I imagine it in my head that my warboss pulled off a shoryuken like ken from street fighter while jumping off his bike while the painboy cheered him on.
I'm pretty sure I lost the game but I still cout the game as a win for the orks awesomeness.

Back in 5th, I decided to for the first time field Abaddon, despite knowing about his armlessness.
I had him in a 10-man termie squad, kitted up to the eyeballs in awesomeness. I was fighting Orks, and deepstruck them in between a pair of battlewagonz, so that I'd get into murder range instantly.
--Successful DS, no scatter.
--Abby + co shoot all guns at a Trukk, no dice.

--5-git Burna Boyz unit disembarks, I laugh.
--5 templates and nothing but 1's later, I'm removing all of the terminators and Abaddon, crying on the inside D:<

I think my proudest moment was back in 3.5 ed. I was running a iron warriors list vs. a world eaters list, with a bloodthirster. I had a chaos dreadnought that at this point was down to just to a plasma cannon and was assaulted by the bloodthirst. The dreadnought managed to get the bloodthirster down to 1 wound and then the bloodthirster blew up the dreadnought, which wounded the thirster and my opponent managed to fail both the save and fnp, so now my dreadnaughts most important kill was from a suicide attack.

I always remember the day a friend of mine took down a Stompa with a lone guardsman. I believe he was the last survivor from a platoon command squad, meltagun, hit the Stompa, penetrated, and caused the chain reaction thing which completely took it out. It was the first time the Stompa had been used as well!! XD
Another first outing I remember, but not for the good, was my terminator squad back when I first started playing. I deep striked the unit in a nice open area, scattered twelve inches into a building and the whole unit was wiped out... I was far from happy!!

My favorite 40k story was an opening turn against a Space Wolf player, who was all mechanized and was playing a very optimal list for the Edition (3rd or 4th, I forget). We got through the end of my turn one, he went into his movement phase and gave up.
Basically I popped his Land Raider and Rhino with anti-tank weapons (Brightlances and Starcannons..remember when they were spammed?)and Razorback first turn. The poor Razorback died to sniper fire...I kind of felt bad. On his turn, his remaining troops in another Rhino attempted to drive out of terrain and immobilized itself. He gave up and I never saw him in the store afterwards due to the huge fit he pitched and people generally thinking he was a bit daft. Automatically Appended Next Post: Now my favorite moment in the whole genre's history was a game of Battlefleet Gothic of 1500 points. My Oberon was sitting back and fired at an enemy Grand Cruiser that was in a huge scum in the middle of the board as the fleets were just meeting and mixed between each other in broadsides.
A few cascading reactor explosions later the only thing left on the board was the firing Oberon Battleship...who...looking at the roiling plasma in space that once comprised two fleets...went back to base to await new support ships.

Over the many years, so many events.
Long ago, when Ordnance had it's own vehicle damage chart. First shot of a game at one of the US GW GTs, got an Ordnance Penetrating 6 on a Landraider filled with the uber Marine Command Squad. All dead, and it was only a 1500 point game.
Or the time (again, older rules) when two lowly IG, the last two members of their squad, said screw it and charged an Archon with incubi retinue. Only model they could reach was the Archon, and there was no pile-in back then so it was them vs Archon. Archon whiffs. IG attack, hit and wound and the Archon FAILS his 2+ save so that the IG win the combat. Archon then fails Morale test and then the IG actually catch them on the sweeping advance.

I was part of a 3v3 game and most of the opposing team was mainly dead and the opposing Daemon player (after about 4 turns) finally got his Nurgle troop to Deep Strike in. He rolled the scatter dice and got the one direction and exact distance to mishap. Then he was wiped out by a Mishap.

I remember once being almost tabled by a 5th edition guard chimera spam. deciding i would be lucky to get a draw, made a conga line of gretchin stretching about 1ft which gained two victory points, and in the last turn my oponent opened fire with his whole army on the gretchin, i made so many cover saves that i had enough gretchin remaining to take the draw!

Back when I ran a game night at FLGS, had a quiet 10 year old playing against the 14 year old A-type. Objective was kill opposing warlord. A-type sets up and leaves warlord barely in the open in back row of his army. 10 year old's first shot is with a missile launcher at the warlord - this was back in 4th ed when you needed to roll on targets with intervening units. 10 year old makes all the right rolls and blows up warlord. Game over on first shot. A-type was stunned and spent the next 15 minutes trying to 'litigate' a different result.

My favorite stories usually involve Perils of the Warp, strangely enough.
First story is pretty tame, I just thought it was really funny. The game is Daemons vs. Marines, and the Daemon player has had his Great Unclean One just rampaging around the battlefield, taking out Marine squads and transports all over. By turn 5, the Marine player has barely managed to get him down to his last wound just through attrition, as well as forcing the GUC to keep charging through cover to get to the Marines. Turn 6 starts (Daemons have the top), and the Marine player is pretty much desperate at this point, because his firepower is basically gone. He's got a single tactical squad left sitting in cover that got a lucky roll to get away the last turn, and it's his last hope of taking down the beast. So the GUC gets ready to go, starts casting powers to buff himself for the battle to come, rolls for Iron Arm, and...promptly rolls double 1s and gets sucked back into the warp with a slight popping noise.
The second story involves my Space Wolves fighting against a Chaos Space Marine army, and it's possibly the worst bit of luck I've ever had on the first turn of a game.
So, first turn, I'm going first, everything is deployed and absolutely nothing has happened yet. I prepare for my first turn by casting some psychic powers on my Long Fangs with my Rune Priest. I roll for my first power, Perfect Timing, and the dice come up double 6s. No power, and I take a wound from Perils. Bit of bad luck, but ah well, there's a whole game to make up for it. I decide to cast Prescience on the Fangs as well, roll the dice for my power...and roll double 1s. Rune Priest takes a wound and dies from his head exploding.
The game had barely started, there have literally been two die rolls in the entire game (not counting pre-game stuff), and already I've granted my opponent both First Blood and Slay the Warlord. We probably spent ten minutes reading both of those rules to see whether or not he got them from my Warlord being an incompetent.

Back at the dawn of 5th i picked up a 2k chaos marine army, spearheaded by a one-armed abbadon (couldnt for the life of me get the other to stay) and a 5-man terminator squad. Playing a double apoc game with Knights of Blood (renegade BA) against Wolves and Scars.
So the game gets going... turn two i DS abbadon and his termies on a key point just in front of a scars bike squad on an objective in the enemy backfield. I play it safe, about 6-8" away from the squad and well away from any terrain pieces... Roll for scatter and lo and behold i scatter directly into the bike squad.
We rule that we can use Corbulo's reroll for teammates, and my second tells me to reroll the higher die, hoping it comes up short and i can at least salvage abbadon and a few lads. But no. I instead roll a 6, making it to where i am now in the middle of a bike squad. A roll on the mishap table later and Abby somehow managed to end up inside of a bike tyre all alone, getting endless concussions from repeatedly being bashed on his head.
Meanwhile a scars biker sergeant gets one hell of a bumpy ride. Needless to say i now play loyalist marines.

By the sound of it, you had at that point never heard of the whole "Abbadon the Armless" in-joke. The fact that one arm stayed on for the battle ought to qualify in and of itself for a "craziest moment in 40k".

He spends his days sitting next to my almost-unused Dark Apostle model, procrastinating about how tings were better in his day.

Okay, here's one of my favorites... back in 2nd Ed, I got in a game against a much more experienced player. He brought SM and I brought whatever models I had available, which worked out to be some SMs, some IG, and a few Agents of the Imperium (Tech Adepts, an Inquisitor). 2000 point game and, while I knew the rules, I didn't have a very good head for tactics. Fortunately, I didn't need one...
As we were setting up, my opponent pointed out his Land Raider to me, and informed me that it was the best tank in the game (not back then, it wasnt) and how his LR had never been taken out in a single game. He placed it in the middle of his line, on a hill, giving it a commanding view of my army (I didn't like terrain so I hadn't put any in my deployment zone). On the first turn, he tore into my army and killed a bunch of models because I had nothing to hide behind. He also used the psychic powers Iron Arm and Quickening on his Chief Librarian, which made him T10 and 4++ (not including his 3++ Displacer Field).
With half my army dead on the first turn, i decided that I wasn't going to win, so I wanted to at least hurt him. I decided to try to kill his LR. That was going to be my goal for the game. If I could frag his precious kill wagon, I would at least consider it a draw, no matter the points score at the end...
I fired the lascannon on my LRMBT and hit the track of his LR and managed to penetrate it, then rolled a '6' on the damage result, which flipped the LR onto its roof D6" in a random direction...
...Which brought it down directly on top of his SM Captain, killing him instantly.
Feeling pretty good about myself, I drove my flamer-armed Tech Adepts in their Rhino (my last mobile vehicle) straight up to his Librarian, and gave him a face full of ten templates from the side door. My opponent laughed at me, because S4 flamers could not possibly wound a T10 model (back then there was a cap on what you could would relative to your S). I then rolled to see if the Librarian caught fire, because that was a thing flamers did back then. Ten hits definately set the little blue bugger alight, and since they couldn't cause wounds to him, he didn't get any of his invulnerable saves to block it. again my opponent laughed, because being on fire couldn't wound his model.
Then I pointed out the rule that said that models on fire moved randomly and could take no actions (including the use of psychic powers) except to try to put themselves out. The only models which could ignore the effect of being on fire were models that were frenzied or in Terminator armor. I then pointed out that his Librarian was in regular old Powered armor...
The rest of the battle didn't go very well for me, as my opponent's army was still strong enough to beat mine without breaking a sweat, but at least his LR was dead and his Librarian never did put himself out.

i have two stories.
the first was when i played my marines against two other players, one-on-two, 2000 points. they were playing tau and ig. they allowed me to use the raven guard rules from the index astartes, and a command squad with jump packs, which included an apothecary, company champion, and a standard bearer, led by a captain.
i deployed them on the corner of the table, behind a hill, and first turn (i went last) managed to get them stuck in against a squad of stealth suits, which they demolished. the next turn, they took on a unit of fire warriors, and a crisis suit team the next, without casualties. and after that, they tackled the commander's crisis team, which was already down one from shooting the previous turn. they just hopped from unit to unit and unleashed all the righteous fury that a squad of angry, genetically engineered super-soldiers can muster. i think the final turn was the only one they didn't get a chance to assault, and they only took one casualty the entire game. it was a glorious day!
my other favorite moment was with my orks, against blood angels. i forget the size of the armies, probably 2000 points, but i do remember that i was just about down to nothing. my opponent had a devastator squad in cover near the edge of the table, and they had chewed many of my vehicles to pieces. the only thing i had left that could hit them was a trukk that had already unloaded its boyz, and had taken two hits, losing its big shoota and gotten immobilized, but had gotten rolling again thanks to grotz. i ran that trukk right into the squad, tearing into the trees where they had been dug in the whole game. they failed their morale check and ran the six inches to the board edge, leaving the game. that was just about the only bright spot in that game, but it was a good one!

Well, there was this one time i beat GK with my orks in one turn.....
1750pts and i normally dont list tailor but since i was orks vs GK i knew i had to do something special because current rules GK stomped orks without even trying. So i brought a SAG for some AP2 goodness. He brought a Draigo wing and a Dreadknight, and some random marines in the backfield.
Turn 1 he jumped his dreadknight 30" and burned 6 lootas out of a buildingtop. Seeing as it was the only thing i could even see let alone reach, i shot it and caused 2 wounds...one of which was because of the SAG AP2. To stall it i charged it with a random group of 15 boyz i brought fill out points and be annoying. They lasted just long enough for him to not be able to use this thing the next turn.
Turn2 his Draigo wing comes in and scatters like nothing else AWAY from me. He cant shoot anything besides a lowly boy or two, and hes scared silly of the SAG so he runs behind a wall out of sight that he landed next to. This was 8" away from the Dreadknight, btw.
My turn. Dreadknight isnt in combat now as my boyz be dead. Caused another wound without the SAG, and went to fire the SAG at it. BOXCARS!!! Ohhh yeaaah! Scattered 9 inches. Wait...the direction....landed directly on top of the entire Draigo Wing. SAG boxcar result does not wound, it just removes including EW and no saves since no wounds. I wiped Draigo wing in 1 shot and he was out of sight rofl.
Needless to say he just picked up his models and left after that LOL

My favorite moment of 40k was not too long ago. GW had just released this thing called 7th edition and my army of psykers that everyone liked to laugh at years ago suddenly became the scariest thing in the meta.

Just played a Blood Angel army yesterday and I wiped out dante and his sanguinary guard right after they used skies of fury and dropped into my deployment zone. One orbital bombardment vaporized them on my following turn as he did not take his shooting turn to run.
Ahhh i do love dead blood angels on my battlefield.
Iron Hands FTW!

I remember when a few months ago I had a single unit of Deathmarks solo almost an entire army of Nids.
The scenario: Nids vs. Crons.
So far, things are not looking good for the Necrons. Two turns of horrible shooting have pretty much allowed him to run right across the board and he's tearing through my deployment zone with his lots of gaunts, warriors, and a flying hive tyrant. On top of that, he has two Tervigons lumbering across the field, eager to join in the fray.
Turn three, the Deathmarks finally decide to show up. I deep strike them into rapid fire range behind one Tervigon and declare it as their target. Amazing rolling gets me 18 out of 20 hits, and with 2's to wound, 6's rending, the Tervigon basically evaporates, taking several Termagaunts with it.
Turn four begins. After passing his Instinctive behavior on the remaining gaunts, he retaliates by turning them around back towards the Deathmarks, along with the other Tervigon and the Hive Tyrant, though they are some distance away. The gaunts pour all their fire into the Deathmarks, but I make most of my armor saves, then the two that went down stand back up on double 5's like bosses. He then assaults the gaunts in, trying to tie them up long enough for the Tervigon to get into melee. He whiffs horribly, and the Deathmarks proceed to beat some faces inside out with their rifle butts. He then proceeds to fail Leadership and gets sweeping advanced! I roll a 6 for consolidation and use to it to move towards his Tervigon so I can get into rapid fire range again.
Now it's my turn. I move into rapid fire range and hope for the best, it's going to be more difficult now that I'm only wounding on 4's. This time, I get every single one of my hits, and then get seven Rending wounds! He then proceeds to fail all of his FNP rolls. Chalk up another Tervigon. Meanwhile in my deployment zone, i manage to take out the Warriors with whatever survivors I have left, though they die next turn to Hive Guard. Now he's down to one synapse creature.
Turn five begins. His Hive Tyrant drops into glide mode and soars pretty much right in front of my Deathmarks, then opens fire on them with two Twin-linked Devourers, getting several wounds. I fail three saves, but two of them stand back up again! Now he's laughing and shaking his head in disbelief, but both of us are thinking the same thing: the Tyrant, though only having two wounds left, is going to assault and then it's basically over. He charges.
I roll for overwatch, thinking this is pretty much the end, though it's been a good run. 18 dice tumble across the board...
Five 6's.
I pick up my dice again, not daring to believe. Surely, my luck is going to run out. I roll the dice again and look at the results.
One 3. One 4. One 5.
And two 6's. The Hive Tyrants deafening roar is silenced instantly as green bolts pierce it's eye sockets and vaporize it's brain. The towering monster shakes the earth as it crashes to the ground at the feet of the Deathmarks, who coolly survey the battlefield for more targets.
Ultimately though, the victory was still his, with two groups of gaunts sitting on two different objectives. I managed to destroy one group on my turn for what it was worth, but the game ended on turn 5.
Nonetheless, it was the most epic run by any single unit I have ever played with.

Here's the story of how an imperial knight titan got two titan-kills in an 1850pts game.
It was the first time I fielded my warhound titan. I ran everything pretty un-optimized: the titan had a plasma blastgun and a vulcan mega-bolter, while the rest of my army consisted of a happy mix of different SOB units and an aegis line. My opponent brought a mech/biker-heavy IH list, which was pretty strong but not tournament-level strong.
My first turn. Warhound and exorcist do nearly nothing. Rest of his army is out of range. His first turn. His whole army opens fire on my warhound, and a butt-load of sixes later it's removed from the field by a knight titan's melta cannon. First blood on a warhound titan.
Since it was only a friendly game with a lot of shenanigans, he simply says 'just put it back into reserves'. Turn four, the thing finally shows up and deep-strikes onto the middle of the table (don't ask) and once again completely whiffs his shooting. His fourth turn, he turns his knight around, knocks off a hull point or two, and then makes a goddamn 11 inch charge through difficult terrain. The combat resulted in a theoretical loss of thirteen hull points, and my warhound explodes again. We just called it a day then

I'm almost certain I've told this story on Dakka before, but I will again.
I had just gotten my friend to start, and he played Salamanders. This was back in 5th, so I was using my 4E Chaos Marines. It was a small game, I think 500pt. A Rhino full of Berserkers got to move once before getting immobilised. The Berserkers then disembarked and ran, killing a squad of Tactical Marines and wounding Vulkan He'stan once before the latter wiped them out. My Chaos Terminator Lord of Tzeentch with a Deathscreamer killed his Terminators in close combat, taking a wound from their storm bolters beforehand. His Tacticals shot down my Chaos Marines (already wounded by the Terminators), but were taken down to a few that were then shot to death by my Lord.
Now alone, Vulkan and the Chaos Lord ended their respective combats very close together. It was very close, but Vulkan won in the end, taken down to one wound. Just as my friend claimed victory, I remembered the Rhino; immobilised, not destroyed. It fired its havoc launcher at Vulkan, scoring a direct hit and causing a wound. Vulkan failed his 2+ save and died, leaving the battlefield completely empty except for a paralysed Rhino.

Recently bested my friend in battle using orks against his chaos space marines, unfortunately i nearly tabled him turn 3 and all he had left was his lord, so, just for laughs, i accepted every challenge he dished out! He killed 5 characters and managed to get a re roll failed saves, +1 invul, + 1 attack, +1 strength and +1 to invul saves. Now thats what i call a good fight for da boyz!

In 90s, when I play as blood angel against my dad Geoff Ork.
On my first go in game turn 1.
I use one of missile launcher at ork dreadnought, hit and kill pilot inside.. It just out of control and walk all over my dad ork boyz for the rest of the games! I won this battle, good childhood in that day. That day my dad say 'dice god are favour in you!' I don't understand what he mean until present day... I understand!! Hahaa
2011,
I play as ork, against tau. Tau go first and my ork are sitting ducking from volley and volley from tau long range rifle.. I keep sitting duck until game turn 3 I go "WWwwaaahhhh!!"
Tau player ask me why I do that? 'Sigh'... Show him the special rule and his eye open very wide! Watch how his tau are wipe out from wave after wave and wave of ork boyz!
In very same game turn I kill every tau in my reach until only three survival tau fire warrior escape from sweep advance...
In game turn 4, Tau player have three fire warrior against hoard of ork boyz and he just pack up and gone!
Last Sunday,
I play as tyranids against space wolf.
I fire my vermom cannon at tactic squad, scatter 9" away from my target but bullseye on devastator squad! Lot of wound apply to this power armour and armour save allow... 1,1,1,2, and 2!
It is my first blood kill
My hormagaunt charge on same tactic squad I missed... Declare a overwatch....10 men vs 10 hormagaunt... Gulp.....
All missed!!

In one massive 5000 pt game, I had a 4 man unit (lost one to other shooting) of close combat scouts with a shotgun/powerfist veteran sergeant manage to get the drop on a 12-wolf fenrisian wolf squad. My shooting whiffs, I make the charge, the knife scouts whiff most of their attacks, killing one wolf between their 9 attacks and their 6+ save. Meanwhile, the wolves have no issues making their attacks and killed off all but the sergeant. Now it was his turn, and he splats 3 wolves no problem. They fail their morale check and get swept, leaving this one scout looking at this massive gunline sitting on a hill. A unitof swiftclaws callously pass him by as a nearby master of ordnance gave the coordinates for the lone unfortunate, who is promptly wiped from existance.
In another part of that realm, a combined unit of DV cultists lead by a scrolls of magnus dark apostle (we said feth the allies matrix, along with turns, to the last man!) was benefitting from the power that granted a 5++ and reflected saved hits onto enemies 6" away (6th ed). My opponent, forgetting this, launched his unit of 5 rough riders with 2 flamers at them, and thought he'd make a barbeque of them.
Tzeentch, an ever-fickle master, said nope.
He scored many hits, and I lost 4 or 5 cultists, but I made an ungodly number of 5+ saves, and he lost most of the unit, as rough riders turn to crisp as easily as my heretics. They failed their morale check and ran back, but not off. A squad of skyclaws deepstrikes nearby and takes pot shots at the cultists, removing a few more and loosing one of their own to the bouncy shield. My turn, I focus the cultists on the rough riders, and my +1 T apostle at the skyclaws. Rough riders are filled with autogun shots, and the apostle whiffs his pistol shot. Goes to assault, overwatch. 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 failed saves. Tzeentch was fickle indeed.
A little later still, those cultists were still around, despite standing in the open, and my marines are dealing with a TWC deathstar, including a decently kitted out lord on a wolf. My cultists, reduced to autoguns and a heavy stubber, just keep plinking away at the TWC, and keep inflicting one unsaved wound, time and again. He never put in the forces to deal with them, as there were bigger threats to contend with, but those sorry sods just kept on doing damage.
Ì have a few more little hilarity stories, but I don't want to make an even bigger wall of text than I have already.

2nd edition. My lone Blood Angels Marine verses 2 lemun Russ Battle tanks. A good roll with a Krak grenade destroys the first Lemun Russ. The turret flys off and demolishes the second Lemun russ.
Also had a game in second edition where my Blood Angels were mercelessly gunned down, leaving only Lord Mephiston. Mephiston then proceeded to wipe out the entire enemy force by himself.

I had a Scout Sniper weather a couple of turns of Lootas, a Big Mek, and some Killa Kanz shooting him up. He was behind a defence line holding the objective worth 4 points (after he and his squad had made a mad dash across the table to get there, the rest of whom didn't quite survive).
Meanwhile, my not-Celestine took a Slugga round to the head from the Nob of a mob of Boyz while she tried to charge them.
Ended up winning that game with the only thing I had left being that Scout. My mom had 2 Killa Kanz, 11 Lootas, a Big Mek with SAG, and a mob of 20 Shoota Boyz.
There's also the time when I forced a scatter die to roll its direct hit thing. Twenty times in a row. Though it's entirely possible I was hallucinating, as my schizophrenia was going untreated at the time since no one knew I had it yet.

Mine has to be from 7 years ago (when I was 12 and only just starting out) when I was playing my first 1500 point game of space marines. I wanted to field Marneus Calgar with his command squad so bad but I didn't know how to play them, so I just set them up by themselves in my deployment zone with the intention of running them across the board into combat.
This was also the first time I'd ever seen Tau, let alone faced them and was promptly shocked at their firepower. However, this didn't stop my chapter master from making it across the board and wiping out a unit of broadsides and two full teams of fire warriors before finally being brought down! He was an absolute tank that game haha

Basically after ploughing through a defiler which had killed my terminators and loosing his first wound in a challenge to a chaos space marine, my wolf lord had to fight Ahriman who had recently turned into a daemon prince. At the end of the first round of combat they'd both gotten each other down to one wound, in the second round unfortunately the daemon prince finished him off but it was epic.

A comprehensive list of things my wraith guard have one-shotted:
Flying DP of nurgle who elected not to take his jink (would have been 2+), 6 to hit with one of five shots, six to wound and ID, fails the 5++
Wraithknight at full wounds in some very tall ruins, shrouded thanks to a telepathy farseer was also ID'd and failed the 2+ cover save.
My personal favourite was a Stormraven carrying my opponents warlord and a full tac-squad. I was running a Spiritseer and spirit marked the Stormraven, both wraith knights completely whiff but the wraith guard rolled one 1 with a 6 on the reroll, penned and exploded. The blast from the wreck killed everything inside the Raven.
Still none of those are as impressive as when I was playing a game allied with Guard and my buddy's lone plasma vet punched Ghaz in the face and took the last wound off of him for a Slay the warlord point and holding an objective.

Well, to name a couple...
1. Cast Warp Blast from a Flyrant into my girlfriends Shrouded Daemon Prince turn 1 while it was in a ruin. He rolled a 1 for his cover save, so 350+ points down the drain in one shot.
2. A sole Necron warrior finished off a riptide in close combat during the first game I ever played against Tau.
3. My friends Khorne Berserkers failed their 3 inch charge two turns in a row.
4. I was losing a good 8-3 points in a kill points game against Orks. My overlord died a good 4 times, resurrected, and ran to the other side of the board for linebreaker, and my annihilation barge (only other model I had on the board), shot his warboss and big mek squad, killed the last Nob and big mek, and made the warboss run during the last turn of the game. I lost, but only by 8-7.
5. My friend was using Kharn the Betrayer, blew up my monolith in one go, but then died to a single Night Scythe.
6. A single Necron Lord was charged by Belial, he failed his MSS roll, wounded himself, and failed a 3+ invuln. Insta-gib.
7. My Overlord on his pimp mobile, after 7th edition rules, charged a unit of Fire Dragons, died. Got back up, blew up a wave serpent, got shot by fire dragons, died. Got back up, finished off fire dragons. Then died again. Got back up, then charged his Autarch last turn and insta-gibbed him with HoW hits alone.

A: Time to quit 40k
B: Trash those Marines
Local Indy store ran a 'golf 40k game'. Lowest score wins. I played Ravenwing. Sammy, 3x 7 man squads and some LSs. Spent the whole game driving them into and out of DT. Lost 2-3 each turn when I rolled 1s. Placed 4th.
GW store was closing. I called 6+ inv save to stay open. Rolled 6. Sadly they still closed.
Wasnt me: Squad of wolf guard drop podded and didnt scatter within 6 inches of a Warhound. Combi melta gunsx10 (everyone knew the WH was gonna be there) and WH goes boom.
My Marine with flamer cooked 2 BA termis
My Assault sarg in CC with a dred had a combat shield. Dred is like 'arrrgh I crush you!!' My guy be like 'clank off the sheild and eat the melta bomb'. Boom! Other player wasnt happy at all.
5 man termy squad wipped out by my 20 grots and 2 slavers. Always run a LC or 2 LC kids.

My second favourite 40k memory was 5th ed, my space marines vs another guy's space marines, when two vindicators managed to annihilate most of his army in one turn.
Both templates got a direct hit. One of them covered a devastator squad and the rear armour of a predator, while the other covered a tightly bunched tactical squad with a missile launcher, along with the side of a rhino carrying another squad. It was madness, both marine squads were almost wiped out and both tanks exploded (which actually finished off the last members of each squad). Hilarious

This was in a 6th Edition game, my Space Wolves vs. Chaos Space Marines. The game starts, I get the first turn, and I start by rolling for my Rune Priest's psychic powers. I roll for my first power, Perfect Timing, double 6s. Rune Priest takes a wound. Whatever, it's just one, surely it can't happen again, so I roll for Prescience, and the dice come up double 1s.
Meltas always have the best stories lol. I played in an apocalypse game where Rogal Dorn, our team's warmaster, rode onto the battlefield in his shiny Storm Eagle and a single, snap-firing Chaos Space Marine shot it down. As crazy as that was, the crash and burn scattered into the assault cannon bearing drop pod formation and the squad couldn't deploy, so they were all destroyed.

One good and one bad
Good story: 1850, my Tau against Eldar in 6th. Eldar player goes first, charges wraithknight/serpents/spiders towards my DZ. I fire off a few shots and don't do much damage. Eldar player goes again, giant wraithknight front and center, just out of charge range on my tanks and pathfinders. Then shadowsun and my suits DS in behind all of his stuff. I do some damage and threaten his objectives, but its too little too late. Then, moments from crushing me, he turns his army around to take care of all my stealth suits, ignoring the rest of my army. The wraithknight charges shadowsun... and after losing her drones she proceeds to pass 14 consecutive invul saves over 8 rounds of combat. When the wraithknight finally squeezes one through, I've taken the board and wiped out everything else.
Bad story: Silly Tau 1850 against different eldar. Everything goes wrong. Longstrike can't hit anything, my skyray cant roll higher than a 2 to pen, ion cannon fizzing off of everything, reserves showing up late, mini-farsight bomb whiffs and dies. I ended up tabled after he had only lost a dozen models, with only one unit in my army doing any actual damage. A unit of vespid. They killed a bunch of avengers, flew across the table, made a couple dozen cover saves, got charged by the avatar and didn't lose anyone, and then shot and charged down most of a squad of fire dragons.
TLDR:
1) Shadowsun passes 14 consecutive invuls in combat with a wraithknight winning the game
2) 6 Vespid do more damage than the other 1700 or so points of my army combined.

Two stories here
First one is in my first game of 7th edition. I rolled for psychic tests and this was my first ever test to be made for 7th edition and I decided to run unbound of 8 grand masters. I Periled and then rolled a 1 on the chart then rolled an 11 on ld. I lost 3 grand masters. One to the perils result and 2 because I rolled a 6 for how many hits I take and failed all my invul saves after all those hits wounded.
Second story was a game with a close friend. He wanted to fool around with 1000 points of farseers summoning daemons the entire game. I decided to answer back on the funny idea with 5 grand masters moving up the board taking down daemon after daemon and the part that made us laugh was how much dice we had in the psychic phase as he had 30 charges before the D6 and I had 10 before we rolled the D6

It's 5th edition, I'm playing my CSM vs Eldar and my main army has been wiped off the table. But his army has been pretty heavily whittled down too so I figure I can at least tie it if my Oblits do decently and scatter decently.
Turn 4: unit of two Oblits comes in, scatters from behind the Eldar to in front of them, and just far enough away that I can't slap them with templates. Some underwhelming shooting on my part later, he wipes them out on his turn.
Turn 5: Lone remaining Obliterator comes in. Scatters the opposite direction towards my opponent's table edge. More underwhelming shooting and then he is too destroyed during my opponents turn.
And lo, I was tabled thrice in the same game. It is the thing legends are made of, and nightmares.

Does anyone have a character in their army that they consider the master of all heroes/villains? a model who has saved them many times? a model who has slain many foes? many generals? many armies? ...... one such character i have is my mega warboss. sometimes wiping out wraithknights on his own, defeating foe after foe in challenges, and even saving me from being wiped on occasion to somehow win me the game.

Guardsman #5-6-50-1-3
The gunner of my Thudd gun, did a lot of damage to various soft target, reducing hordes to nothingness, killed a mega warboss who was about to charge his cannon, got me Slay the warlord and the point that let me win the game.
As mentionned before, the two that blew up the Stompa, Grenadiers # 5-6-93-2 and 3, both replaced by new #2 and 3.

Does the Doom of Malan'tai count? Or as I like to call him "The Doom of everyone who is not a Tyranid.
I don't know how many times the Doom has killed off almost an entire army, by himself.

My Necron Overlord. Sometimes on a barge, sometimes with his bodyguards. Every time, he kills gak and stands back up numerous times. He's also overrun two commanders and a Riptide in a single combat.
Also, Tyranid Prime. Back in 6th Ed. he got charged by a warboss and unit of nobz all on bikes, while all my Tyranid Warriors died horribly, he took on the whole unit, killed the Warboss in a challenge, and killed the remaining nobz in a sweeping advance. Then in another game, went up against a Chaos Lord on a bike in a unit of Chaos Spawn and Insta gibbed most of them. He's always done well for me.

Last game, the superior of a dominion squad was the lone survivor of her unit that had been shot at by eleven kabalite warriors at rapid-fire range. However, as it was a zone mortalis game, said eleven warriors were all packed in a corner in base-to-base contact. She grabs a frag grenade, scores a hit, and kills four warriors. The remaining seven then fled off the table.
...then the grenade went off
She has been renamed Sister Norris afterwards in honour of her heroism. Unfortunately, she did not survive the battle as she ran into a trio of pissed-off incubi the turn after...

Round 2, 10 bases of scarabs Vs. 1 Space Marine Captain on a bike. 50 dice to attack, only managed to score a single to wound, which he promptly saves. Repeat this over and over, wtih him killing 1-2 bases of scarabs every round. Round 6, I get 3 spyders and 15+ bases of additional scarabs into the melee, hoping the Spyders will finish him off.
He promptly dies at the hands of the scarabs, before the Spyders do anything.

My friend was learning the new tau codex, so this never happened again and probably never will, but because of a few unlucky rolls and dubious fallback moves, I got to position Kharn and seven MoK chaos chosen (With kharn, they make eight, which is fluffy) in between a tau buffmander and a unit of suits of one kind or another. So, Kharn leaves unit coherency and charges the commander, and my chosen bum-rush his pansy suits. The commander failed to get off any hits at all, while Kharn scored all seven hits and six wounds. Meanwhile, the chosen made 42 attacks on three suits. 30-ish hits, and like 14 wounds. I think I took one casualty. And they say assault isn't viable.
Of course, kharn killed the commander in a challenge, and the ruling of my FLGS at the time was that since I killed a character and won a challenge, I got 2 rolls on the boon table. What do I get? Instant death and eternal warrior. So, the chosen move back into coherency with kharn and they run the next shooting phase, only to be exactly 12 inches away from a riptide. This was a 1000 point game, so kharn and that 400 or so point unit of chosen was all I had left by turn 3. Of course I did what any devout follower of Khorne would do and charged the riptide. Kharn took like 5 over-watch hits, and I made LOS! rolls on all of them. the entire squad of 40+ point models is gone, so kharn puts like 6 wounds into that riptide and dies a worthy death. I still lost the game, though because by the time any of this happened, my buddy had fire warriors on three of four objectives. I love this game so much.

3rd edition. My first game ever, and it was with Tau against DA.
His (non-psyker 2 wound) HQ was running up the side of the board towards a Fire Warrior team. They rapid fired into him, taking him to one wound. He charges on his turn and clears his kill zone except for a single Fire Warrior.
Said Shas'la scoops a rock off the ground and wings it at him, hitting, wounding, and he flunks his armour save...
(This FW team would later go on to acquit themselves well in the next game by killing a Banshee Exarch in close combat and whittling some of the squad down).
In the first game as well, he had a Land Raider that ended the battle immobilized, with just the heavy bolter, and shaken and stunned to all hell from a Hammerhead and 3 Broadsides giving it full attention.
(On a side note, I've never killed a LR with a Tau Railgun. With fusion blasters or EMP grenades yes, but never with a Railgun).

Having Krom Dragongaze and Ahriman, who'd recently turned into a daemon prince, locked in a challenge with 1 wound each. The only other things left on the table were a pair of blood claws.
The dice were on Krom's side at the start but in the end the wolves got eaten.

Nothing too crazy, but back when I was a kid first learning 40k I was battling a Chaos player at a GW store with my space marines. Bloodthirster charged one of my tac squads and reduced it down to the sergeant. That lone sergeant survived three whole turns by himself against that demon before he was slain. The manager of the store gave that specific sergeant model special rules against demons for the next three months from his heroic encounter. I still have that model, it was a really exciting moment back then.

I would say mine was back in 5th edition, and going against Eldar. I decided to deepstrike Abaddon by himself and he didn't come in tell turn 3... I was loosing, the odds were not in my favor, Abaddon comes on to the field shots at a small Guardians squad makes them to an I check, they run off the board, next turn he wipes out a 5 man Dire Avenger squad with a Farseer and gets charge by another squad of Dire Avengers ending the game off with a tied game.

Back in 5th, I had a Chaplain and a squad of Assault Marines up against a seriously big amount of Tau units (we are talking 2 Broadsides, Hammerhead and multiple full squads of Firewarriors here). My guys stand in cover and the it's the Tau players shooting phase. He grabs his dice, expecting an easy taking and rolls... and nothing whatsoever happens. Not one single wound from the entire barrage of units listed above came through. You can probably guess what happened in my turn after that.

Last round of a local tournament. Purge the Alien. Dawn of War deployment. My Salamanders versus the mighty Space Wolves. He deployed centralized behind an Aegis with all his marines on foot.
Turn1: I deepstrike in on the flank with 3 pods. Vulcan leading the charge with his Sternguard. He tanks all the shots for his men with his 2+.
Turn2: I declare a charge with Vulcan and company! Overwatch: 18 bolter shots deflect off his mighty armor! 1 Melta. No problem, he needs 6's. He gets a 6. Fack! No problem, I need a 2+ for Look Our Sir. Rolls a 1. Fack! No problem, I have a 3++ save. Rolls a 2. Fack!
First Blood, Slay the Warlord, and a Kill Point.

Some of my most unforgettable times playing 40K happened when I first started playing 40K back in 3rd Ed. A friend of mine and I got interested in 40K when one of our other friends showed up at our monthly Model Club meeting with a SM diorama. We thought the models looked really cool and soon visited a local FLGS to check out the game and the models.
The friend with the SM diorama bought more SM’s (of course), my other friend bought Eldar and I instantly fell in love with Orks when I saw the Stormboyz models with the huge rockets strapped on their backs and absolutely had to buy Orks.
So, my SM friend has a huge 2 car garage and decided to build a gaming table. Now this isn’t just any gaming table, but an 8’ x 12’ behemoth covered with 3 complete 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood. Not knowing any better, we began our 40K gaming careers playing on this monster of a table.
My army at the time consisted of a Warboss, a couple of squads of Slugga Boyz, a couple of squads of Stormboyz, some Tankbustas, some Burna Boyz, 5 Mega Nobz, a Trukk, 3 Warbuggies, 5 Warbikes and 3 Deffkoptas. Not a single piece of armor or long range weaponry among the lot.
Meanwhile, my SM friend had the whole SM shootin’ match and then some; multiple HQ choices, Terminator squads, Veteran squads, min-maxed TAC squads with Lascannons and Missile Launchers, Devastator squads, Bikes, Attack Bikes, Land Speeders, Rhinos, Razorbacks, Predators and a stinking Whirlwind.
So, we started playing pretty much every weekend. Most of my Orks were footslogging it across the table from hell getting pounded all the way in to CC (if they survived). Da Boyz were consistently getting slagged by way too many Lascannons, every piece of SM armor on the board and they were getting pie plated like clockwork by that fething Whirlwind.
Finally, I did the logical thing, I studied the Rulebook and the Ork Codex and I discovered Looted Vehicles. I looked over the available choices and I noticed the Basilisk. So I thought, what better way to reach out and touch someone than to get a vehicle with an Earthshaker Cannon that can shoot 120”, problem solved! So off to the FLGS I went, I plunked down my money and I left the proud new owner of a Looted Basilisk.
The next game, I showed up and plopped down my Looted Basilisk on the table and my SM friend asked “What’s that?”. A Looted Basilisk I said and I proceeded to show him the rules in the Codex. So, Turn 1, I placed my Basilisk on the forward edge of my deployment zone and I was able to shoot all the way across to the other side of the mother of all tables, I started dropping S9 AP3 Ordnance 1/Blast shots on his troops and began to force him to make saving throws. Back in 3rd Ed you couldn’t pre-measure your Ordnance shots and you had to guess the range and then roll for spread. I got pretty adept (and lucky) at guesstimating range, rolling favorably for spread and getting most of my shots to land on his troops.
My SM friend absolutely sucked at making savings throws (especially when the pressure was on). A lot of the time, he failed his savings throws. He started to get frustrated because he was losing troops as early as Turn 1 before they even got into shooting range of my troops.
Then one day it happened, he failed a savings throw (again), he’s so pissed at this point that he can’t see straight. I stood by in amazement as he picked up the model and the dice that just failed the savings throw off of the table and the winged them across the garage into the wall. The poor SM model hit the wall, shattered and fell to the floor in pieces, along with the dice.
Soon, this became a semi-regular occurrence. SM fails savings throw, SM flies across the garage without the aid of a Jump Pack, meets wall and shatters, then plummets to the floor in pieces accompanied by the dice. When we would show up the next week to play, we would see all of these poor SM models that had been crudely glued back together again, looking like some poor twisted cripples.
Needless to say, that Basilisk really got inside his head and rattled his confidence. Regardless of what scenario we were playing, he always played the “Kill the Basilisk at all costs” scenario every game. I usually got my clock cleaned in most of the games that I played against him, but I relished the small victories when my Basilisk managed to take out some of his troops.
And I still have that Basilisk … really wish I could still use it today

Was it 3rd edition or 4th? I can't remember. Maybe it was 3rd when the first city fight codex came out with the campaign. What was that map called...Vogen I think. Anyways...We always filled our tables with tons of terrain and it really made it seem like a true battle in the city.
I played as my Black Templars...Back then they use to be referred to as cheesey....well it certainly played out that way for me.
I believe it was 1500 or so points. My Templars were in locked combat with Blood Angels the entire game. It would go back and forth, but his death company seemed to be chewing apart my marines. It wasn't until he came against my Emperor's Champion.
Against all odds, that lil black sword wielding champion cut down his squad of Dead Company without even breaking a sweat. It was one of those moments where the game was either going to be won or lost in that close combat. I will never forget when the final dice fell against the table and the last DC model was removed my EC stood in victory.
Odd now, because my EC always seemed to die in combat no matter his opponent. Lets hope 7th edition changes that for me!

You may have seen this on before. I ran a game night at FLGS back in 4th edition days. One evening we had a 14 year old motor mouth (MM) playing
a 10 year old who was learning the game. Objective was to kill the enemy commander. MM played Chaos and set up with his commander
in back row by himself - Chaos Bob. 10 year old's first shot was a SM missle launcher at Chaos Bob. Passed the intervening model dice roll, hit
and wounded Chaos Bob terminally. Game, set, match in one shot. MM went on for 10 minutes trying to get a grasp on what happened.

I think my Rhino crew was acting a bit drunker than usual in the game I just played earlier this evening.
So, it's a small game, 750 points, my Wolves vs. Imperial Guard. I'm running a few squads of Grey Hunters, the relevant one of which is a single squad in a Rhino. First turn of the game, it rides up into terrain to jump onto an objective, rolls a 1 and immobilizes itself. First hull point gone. Well, crap, I think, not a great way to start the game. I fail to repair it in the shooting phase, so it spends a turn sitting there, and the unit inside jumps out to slog their way up the board since I don't see much hope in repairing the Rhino. Lo and behold, turn 2, shooting phase, Rhino repairs itself.
On my turn 3, I get an objective card that requires me to move over to a nearby objective. I can just barely make it if I get lucky rolls on movement with the Grey Hunters, but the Rhino can definitely make it as long as it doesn't immobilize itself again. Sure enough, the Grey Hunters don't quite make it, I move the Rhino over, and...it immobilizes itself on the flat-out move. Two hull points gone. I fail the repair roll again, and on turn 4, I definitively move into position with my Grey Hunters. At which point, my Rhino repairs itself again on a lucky 6.
Turn 5 comes, and I once again get an objective card for the first objective that I left to get the second objective. Once again, I can just barely make it with the Grey Hunters if they roll well enough, but they're in a good shooting position, so I decide to go for the Rhino again. I figure, come on, what are the odds of rolling 3 1s in a row on dangerous terrain?
Apparently pretty darn good, because of course, the Rhino rolls a 1 again and wrecks itself trying to get out of terrain. My opponent literally fired at it once, and he missed the shot, and I still lost the Rhino by the end of the game because it immobilized itself three different times.

I was running Abaddon and a Sorcerer in a Chosen Squad with a Land Raider, I charge them out of it into a Grey Hunter Pack and Abby wiped them, than get charged by TWC, Abby does one wound on a TWCPL and the Sorcerer with Iron Arm and Warp Speed takes out 2 TWC and 2 FW. My opponent has read fluff on Abby and was expecting him to destroy squads and he is making all is 3++ saves against Abby and I was like only in this game will a Sorcerer out badass Abby.

though its not that amazing, i draw a game at 600 points against grey knights despite outnumbering him almost 6 to 1 as orks, was pretty disappointed.
another 600 point game I was against imperial guard, possible last turn (it was as it turns out) my oponent made a tank shock in an attempt to steal an objective which would win him the game (he want 3-0 in the torny so i wasnt that sad). My warboss was the only power klaw in the unit.... death or glory! .... hits! ..... rolls a 1 and dies..........

I once killed a bloodthirster with 7 plague marines
And like my signature says, my DP has had quite a lot of those:
Killing a dreadknight, 10 purifiers, and 2 Dreads while at 1 HP for the whole game (go Iron Arm and Spell Familiar! You can't DtW me, Imperial Scum!)
Killing myself with my own daemon weapon (seriously, 1 rolled 1 four rounds of combat in a row! And against Black Templar scouts!)
Single-handedly beating 1500pts of Necrons AV 13 Spam: he seriously surrendered on turn 3, and I'd only lost 2 Chaos Cultists and a plague marine!
Instakilling a Stormraven by Vector Striking it on Turn 1.
Killing the Swarmlord in 1v1 without buffs, and in 1 turn.

PFC Cortus is a plasmagunner in Dog company's 1st Platoon Command Squad. While his platoon is pinned down on an objective around a rocky outcrop, a traitorous storm raven screams down to drop a payload of blood angels eager to butcher his comrades.
Cortus takes the initiative. Shaking with fear, he aims his gun toward the incoming craft and pulls the trigger. In a flash of brilliant light the storm raven bursts into flames taking it's crew with it. The craft slams to the ground and skids to a stop mere feet from Cortus' smoking plasmagun. For this Cortus received Mercova's highest honour for valor in the face of the Emperor's enemies; the Brass Spike.
Later, during the pacification of Herion IV (it was a escalation tourney day), PFC Cortus and his squad find themselves at the wrong end of an ork charge. The tribe's fearsome warboss, a massive beast clad in indomitable armour, leads his slavering warband straight toward the Guard line. The savage is wounded already but no less formidable in battle.
With the screams of the dying echoing in his ears, Cortus vents his plasmagun and fires a wild defensive shot at the behemoth ork. It finds it's mark, punching through the iron battle armour and burning xenos flesh. Still the beast rushes toward his squad.
The sound of the ork plunging into imperial line is sickening. Men are torn to meat left and right by the alien's massive power klaws. Seeing his friends dead around him and knowing he has only moments to live is too much for Cortus. Resigned to his fate he acts rather than decides to go on fighting. He grips his unvented plasmagun in his hands like a war club, searing the skin on his palms from the still white hot plasma coils. With a prayor to the Emperor spoken out of instinct rather than faith, he drives the butt of his weapon into the screaming maw of the ork king. Cortus shatters the beast's skull and turns his head into a wet smear. The warboss falls to the ground in a mighty thud. Cortus stands above the carcass and yells the name of death as the Mercovan battle line rallies to throw off the ork attack.
I painted the star on his shoulder gold the next day.

My last game with my Ultramarines was pretty awesome. Only lost two Space Marines in the entire 1500 point game, my Vindicator's Demolisher Cannon was destroyed early on, so I Tank Shocked the Vindicator though the entire Ork army, causing a total of 25 Ork Boyz and a squad of Grots to flee before its might! I also had a Venerable Dreadnought headbutt a Daemon Prince to death after it lost all weapons and became Immobilised over 4 Rounds of Combat.

When super heavies became allowed in 40k a friend and I tried it with his demons and my Tau. He took lord of skulls, 2 blood thirsters, and some blood letters, I had some FW's two riptides, broadsides, Farsight bomb with 4 melta crisis suits and Ovesa.
Well, the farsight's bomb dropped beside te lord of skulls, Dakka'd it. Guess where the D strength template went? Ontop of Farsight and friends.
Another one was an apoc game with the same friend where my Fusion blades commander decided to Solo a brass scorpion.. Well he hit it with a good left hook(2 actually) rolled hot on armor pen and results. The thing exploded, took him, some demons and 2 crisis teams out with it. Wasn't even made.
Played 10k Tau vs 15k Space Wolves,he was supposed to deploy his extra 5 on another table to help a 5k point player fight another 10k beside me, but they where just wiggling back and forth so he directed most of it at me. Of all my losses that he incurred where about 20 kroot a couple pirhanas, and my crisis suits. Farsight stabbed Arjac in the face and killed him. And they nuked my fusion blades commander from orbit because he just wouldn't die. He was near tabled before a 10k army of Eldar beside him and a bunch a bunch of death company wiped out the orks beside me. The Space Wolves may have got a boot stomping but those space elf tree huggers sure did throw it back at me.

Pretty sure nobody actually reads these things, but I can't stop myself. I've told these stories several times, but I will compile them here as an anthology: 1: The assassin that jumps out of your unit and hits you with a flamer that targets LD attacked my fire warrior squad. It killed everyone except the Sargent, then charges into close combat. Somehow my lone FW Sargent manages to wound the assassin, make it fail its leadership test, then run it down in a seeping advance. That model then goes on to hold me an objective and help me win the game. I painted that sergeant with the coveted "golden helmet" award for valor. It will forever retain a special place in my heart. 2: I was testing out the Riptide for the first time against Tyranids. My opponent brought the Doom in a spore drop pod. I managed to kill the doom with interceptor fusion shots from my crisis suits, then decided to charge the drop spore with my riptide. "what's the worst that could happen?". I forgot that the spore counted as a monstrous creature. it put a wound on my riptide, made me fail my leadership, then I rolled 3d6 for fallback distance and fell back off the board. So a spore pod killed my riptide. 3. Playing the Tau vs Tau mirror matchup. He snipes my Ethereal out of the FW unit in a devilfish turn 1 with a couple lucky shots. Then turn 2 my Barracuda comes in from reserves. I drop the large blast ion template on top of a devilfish, a fully loaded squad of FW including a cadre fireblade, and a squad of dual melta crisis suits that was right next to it for some reason. The only thing left standing was the transport. That Barracuda won me the game. That was actually a pretty good game. We both took stuff the other one never took, so we ended up correcting each other about the rules several times throughout the match. Learned a lot about how my codex works! 4. A game came down to a single broadside suit on my side and a single brood lord on the opponent's side. We had a full on Wild West style shootout along the central street of the city themed gaming board we were playing on. This was before overwatch was a thing so I was playing conservative as hell with my positioning. I eventually killed the brood lord with a railgun shot and won the game with one model left on the table. 5. We were playing a "space hulk" inspired game where each unit moved around as a scrap of paper on a very dense board until it got into LOS of another unit, then we both revealed what was under the marker. I had a unit of broadsides and I ran into the Doom for the first time ever. I just heard "take a leadership test on 3d6" and had absolutely no idea what was coming. Ended up with one broasdside left that did not fail its leadership check and instant deathed the Doom with a railgun shot from less than an inch away, We decided the pilot just shoved his railgun into the doom's mouth and pulled the trigger. I ended up getting stomped in that game since Tau vs Tyranids in a dense board before overwatch was a thing meant bad things for me, but I'll always have that memory. When you play one army since 3rd edition you end up with a lot of attachment to your models Lots more stories I won't tell you, but those were the most important ones. P.S. One other one: 6. The "close combat monster" assassin that blows up when it dies charged my crisis suit commander. It put a wound on him with shooting it's needle pistol beforehand. Somehow my commander managed to deal a wound and kill it, then survive the resulting explosion (I swear, the "flailing slow" crisis suit with S5 is underestimated far too often amongst my opponents). We decided the commander just grabbed the assassin and shoved him onto the needler shard sticking out of the commander's chest. Pretty impressive in my opinion.

I forgot that the spore counted as a monstrous creature. it put a wound on my riptide, made me fail my leadership, then I rolled 3d6 for fallback distance and fell back off the board. So a spore pod killed my riptide.
It's always a laugh when the Riptide dies because it's not fearless. Or Nova Reactors itself to death.
More often than not, if my Riptide isn't cooking himself alive, he's being chased by a bloodletter because they're scary.

I will always remember playing a Planetstrike game in 5th ed where my friend had flown his vendetta onto a landing pad. I happened to have 3 Death Company Members beneath the pad and on the next turn they had to move up the pad and assault the vendetta. I laughed my way through 3 turns of watching these maniacs glance the vendetta over and over, immobilizing it and tearing it's weapons off one by one until it was finally wrecked. 3 TL Lascannons, and 2 Heavy Bolters later I'm sure the guardsmen piloting it had peed there pants as these maniac ripped apart their baby.
We both stopped and laughed at that situation.

Once I played in an RTT with a Chaos army according to the 3.5 Ed codex.
My list was
2 Lieutenants on bikes with pw, 9 minor psychic powers
5x6 Daemonettes
6 Daemonettes on steeds
3 Obliterators
1 Defiler
The Lieutenants were rolling on the minor psychic power table fishing for siren.
With siren they were invisible. The enemy couldn't shoot and charge them.
The plan was to move them close to the enemy front ranks and summoning the Daemons.
Summoned Daemons were able to charge in the same turn.
The other participants almost wanted to kill me.
I won all games with ease, also against the hated IW list with nine Oblits.
Cheers.

Opponent loaded every expensive CSM he could cram into an imperial bastion. My unit of 5 BA with powerfists (can't remember what the unit was supposed to be) punch the bastion until it explodes (hey, it was in the rules. Dice say punching a bastion makes it explode), killing everyone inside in a single turn, and leaving my marines standing atop a pile of rubble like cheezy movie heroes. Needless to say, he was not happy.

While turning our backs to eat some pizza during a recent game, my house rabbit got onto our gaming table and starting eating some of the cardboard scenery. Since then we always pretend we're fighting on a death world with gigantic local lifeforms.
No models were harmed thankfully and the scenery looks even better for the additional 'battle damage'

It was in 5- th edition. I was playing footslogging orkses - 30 strong choppa squads with pk bp nobz.
The opponent plays space marines and has a bunch of TH/ SS termies with a TH/ SS captain in a landraider crusader - great combo back than. The guyz charge what remains of footslogging orks after a couple turns of shooting and murderise everyone but nob. Nob turns away to run and accidentally chops terminator captain in half on the move. Runs away and on the way to the backlines manages to glance a landspeeder with a slugga shot. Than goes off the board.
Next game against sm once again. The opponent has an expensive librarian with a stormshield and an assault-oriented squad. He charges the boyz and murderises all but nob. Nob turns away to run and accidentally chops librarian in half on the move. The squad doesn't manage to catch him in sweeping advance. Runs away and goes off the board.
It was the same nob. Next game i've fielded him as a blood axe warboss.
One of my favorite 7- th moments was when the imperial knight got blocked off by a single grot. If he chose to shoot this phase, he'd have to stop his advance cause to charge a grot he'd have to shoot at him too and even a stabber is quite likely to kill off a t2 gobbo without armor save. So, he wouldn't be able to charge noone. If he chose to charge the grot, he'd have to forego shooting and waste the whole phase on killing a single freaking grot!
Here's a batrep about this fight

My squad of Tactical Marines shot down a Flying Hive Tyrant and scored two wounds with one bolter shot. He failed his armour, his feel no pain, his grounding test, his invulnerable, and then feel no pain again. The ML Devs then finished it off.
In a game of 5th, my Lord Commissar led some scraps of infantry I had left, with 1-2 Marines and a handful of Guardsmen, and then routed and destroyed a platoon of 30ish Guardsmen they charged.
That said, I've been on the receiving end. A few months back a Chaos Raptor Champion killed my blob Priest in a challenge, I failed morale, and the whole blob of 20 got swept by one model.
My Company Commander pistol-whipped a flanking Jetbike Eldar Autarch with the instant death, S6 AP2 super-sword thing, and didn't die.

A Space Wolf scout squad (back in the day when even the Space Wolves scouts were mere pups learning how to hold a knife properly instead of being grizzled veterans who want to die, as expressed by taking more flimsy armour instead of bigger, better suits) is charged by three Chaos Terminators. Needless to say, it became a massacre, except for one very tenacious scout. He made his attack, scored a hit, and wounded. When I say "back in the day" I mean back in the day. The Terminator had to make his armour save of 3+ on 2d6. Snake-eyes!
So, next round, as the scout stood his ground, the remaining two Terminators mad a boatload of attacks, which either missed, or failed to wound. Out comes the trusty scout knife. One hit, one wound. One failed 3+ Terminator save on 2d6. And then the remaining Terminator broke, and fled...
I actually made a special character out of that scout. Named him, gave him Terminator armour and allowed him to accompany the Wolf Lord as a part of his unit. Paid full Terminator price even if he did have lower Scout statistics (Terminators had WS5 and BS5 then). Never had a single player refuse the special character too. Every opponent I had (barring tournament play, of course) was ever so impressed by the saga this young Wolf had already written for himself.
Probably never to be forgotten, this. Remember until the Wolf-Time.

Had my own Deathstrike named as my opponent's MVP .....
I made it fire danger close at hordes of Demons and CSM encroaching upon my battlements (I run a Fortress of Redemption). The blast scattered and landed bang on my fortress.
Two whole sections detonated and killed everything inside (40 veterans gone in an instant), and a third section (the main tower) took some damage and my men tried abandoning the fortress from the top (none survived the fall and added another 10 veterans to the casualty counter).
My front-line was effectively removed and left me completely defenseless. Needless to say, I lost

it gets better.
i than tank shock a full strength warrior squad, at an angle to prevent the cryptek from attempting DoG. they FAIL the leadership test. they fall back 3 inches. my trukk had 5 more inches so I succesfully pull off a double tankshock. they fall back another 12in. the board edge was only 11 away.

I got a new and better one. On a game I played last week it was 3 vs 2. SM (iron hands), SM (raven guard) and Dark Angels vs Space Wolves. I had my Space Wolves Rhino just riding around after it drop off a Grey Hunter squad and it lost its stormbolter so i was gonna troll line of sight with it. The iron hands Chapter Master on a bike with the Shield Eternal, TH, and AA charged it in combat and did two pins but rolled snake eyes so nothing happened. Than when it was my turn again I tank shocked the CM, he did for death or glory, he failed his LD test and with that my Rhino scored warlord,

I had a rather smug moment back in 6th.
My IG/Chaos Marines vs a guy's Space Marines. His main force comprises of a squad of Vanguard + Chapter Master arriving in a Drop Pod. The Master is armed to the teeth with dual Thunder Hammers.
Pod lands, the Master splits from the Vanguard, then decimates a squad of Guardsmen in assault. My turn comes around, and I manage to neutralise the Vanguard, but I still have to deal with the Master.
My Psyker, attached to a Plasma Command Squad, casts Enfeeble onto the Master, reducing him to T3. He points out that it was apparently pointless, as plasma was already wounding him on 2+, so what's the point in casting Enfeeble?
I counter by reminding him that since he's now T3, my S7 Plasma Guns will cause ID...
He was pretty surprised, and rolled his 4++ Invuln saves one at a time, but with 5 wounds to roll against, he really didn't have much of a chance.
Small moment, but I was pretty smug about it.

Recently I was using my AM army to destroy a farsight enclave, I decided to bring a baneblade because why not? It being a Lord of War allowed the tau player to deepstrike with no scatter within 6" of the baneblade. On turn 3 they entered via deepstrike right behind the baneblade, where the immediately lit up the rear armor with so much melta that nothing was left of the tank, however the resulting explosion was so devastating it manage to wipe out his entire command squad including commander farsight.

Bad for me epic for my friend, I infiltrated Karandras and his sneaky Scorpions in some ruins as a Brood of Carnifexes pass by. Perfect victim for the Phoenix Lord and his eager Exarch no? Nah. The Carnifex brood turns and brings the devours to bear. Karandras bravely takes the brunt of the force, but the final wounds come up as triple ones. I rolled triple ones on the armor saves.... This was turn one, my morale was so unbelievably shattered at the time, looking back though it's a funny story.

On saturday, Gazzy and 2 meganobs call the WAAGH and charge the 10 cultists I'd set to bubble-wrap him.
Final result?
Gazzy loses 2 wounds, fails to sweep, and gets flamered to pieces next turn by 5 plague marines and the 4 surviving cultists.

It seems the guard can provide amusement.
Once a unit of about 8 vets were chilling in a ruin and a unit of 12 gargoyles came on the board right next to them. One turn of shooting at the goyles killed off 4. Gargoyles charge next turn, losing 4 more. In the assault phase they wiff out. The Vets procede to take kill every single one. Later that game a group of about 5 termigaunts charge the same vets who were down to 6. Kill 2 in overwatch, make all armor saves, beat down the gaunts. These guys were the mvp of the game.
Another game my buddy was playing guard, two vets are charged by a grey hunter. Grey hunter fails to get any wounds through. I than imagine the vets taking their lasguns like baseball bats and beating the h**l out of that power armored son of a gun. Lol's were had by all.
Good times.

There was one game, my Blood Angels against SM or Dark Angels. My Sang Guard w/Priest just deepstriked last turn, and they're pretty much my only hope left.
I charge the enemy Command Squad, and kill everyone except his Captain.
About a foot away to the NW of combat is the enemies Vindicator with nothing much to shoot at. About six inches N of our combat is my nearly dead Chimera.
"I'm going to shoot at the Chimera, and hope it scatters onto your guys." he says. We both chuckle.
It scatters PERFECTLY into the middle of our fight...
EVERYONE in the combat dies...except his Captain who made his 4++.
I was stunned. I just gave up right there, concluding that obviously the Emperor wasn't on my side.

Back in 5th edition, just as I was starting with my first real army, Dark Angels, I was playing against Tau at the local GW.
The Tau player had set up fairly densely close to his board edge, and had used some ruins well. Unfortunately, he had made the mistake of putting his Ethereal on the very top of the ruins.
On my first turn, I think it was even before the first Tau turn, I fired a tactical squad's Plasma Cannon at the Ethereal.
The blast hit squarely on the Ethereal's head, and evaporated him as he failed his cover save. Through some mechanism that I've forgotten and has definitely changed by now (probably some failed leadership checks), this caused nearly half of the Tau army ran off the board.
After that, I didn't think much of Tau for the rest of 5th. And I have yet to play the new, much better Tau more than twice - but don't get me wrong, I won't underestimate them now. I've read enough horror stories about Riptides and Broadsides. Plus, I've got some Tau of my own now.

My furioso dreadnought (back in 6th) sucessfully tabled the opponent by killing all his units consisting of...
10 khorne beserkers
Huron blackheart
10 standard CSM
Chaos lord in terminator armour
Huron was in the beserker squad and the opponent didnt offer a challenge so i was just like "hit, wound, kil, roll again..."(as blood talons were OP) and killed them all in 1 turn
The standard CSM couldnt hurt the furioso so i charged and killed them the next turn
I then used my furioso to kill the terminator lord
How? Using the magna grapple (i had wounded him earlier on using the meltagun on the dreadnought)
So Furioso 1 Entire CSM army 0

We played a free for all game of three players at my friends house. 1500 points each, there was Renegades (massed artillery and blobs), CSM (two squads of 20 and some vehicles) and Ultramarines (that's me, Tacticals, Assault Squad, 10 Terminators, Captain and Ordo Xenos Inquisitor). On turns two and three the following events happen: - I take two Hull points off of a Leman Russ with only two Assault Cannons. - I then make a 11 inch disordered charge to wreck that LR and kill the remains of an infantry squad. - a shaken CSM Predator rams to the back armor of another Leman Russ, taking off a HP and stunning it. - the Renegade Chimera then rams the Predator and wrecks it (only one HP left on it) - the CSM player rolls three sixes on psychic shriek, losing 9 models - three Renegade Earthshakers (is that the name?) try to kill my Terminators, scattering way off. They killed 18 Renegades and wounded two of my Terminators, who both failed their 2+ save and instakilled my Captain, who also got wounded only once but failed his 2+ - my turn again, so my lonely Inquisitor charges and runs over a blob of 15 renegades while my Librarian does psychic shriek to the other blob of Chaos Marines, who then roll a six, a five and a four, losing five guys. It was a hilarious and random game. I think that my favourite in the hobby is from on the moment when my friend moved his Predator behind the Leman Russ. The two of us then start to discuss wether it gets an cover save and our friend just looks at us and asks: "What S is the ramming?"

Two more stories of mine, one old, one very old (both back in 6th):
1. In a game of Planetstrike, I was invading a Necron fort as Guard, but my friend had paid for and sprung the escape hatch thing on me, so suddenly his classic destroyer lord + wraith wombo-combo popped outside of the fort near a contingent of standard guardsmen. A couple turns having elapsed, my CCS is down to the lone commander with nothing but a laspistol. He takes aim at a wraith down to one wound-- hits, wounds, invul save fails! Next turn rolls around without being assaulted-- the platoon was less fortunate. From shooting, another wraith is at one wound. Pops a shot, hits, wounds, save fails again. My gunslinger commander bags TWO wraiths with a laspistol. Next turn, he hits the DL with his pistol, but it doesn't wound. Of course, his laserpointer-pistol also coordinates airstrikes, as a Vendetta swooped by and finished the job for him...
2. A crazy, 4-way killpoint game that was Necron v. Necron v. CSM v. Guard that actually worked out fairly well. Guard turn 1 is after Chaos and one of the Necron turns, so I do all my shooting with some minimal damage. Hmm, no flyers on turn 1, no visible skimmers; what should this Hydra of mine shoot at? So I shoot at a Triarch Stalker. Just snapshots, maybe I could get a glance on it? Roll to hit with TL: . Wow, all hits. Str7 vs AV13, roll to glance: . Seeing as this was a different 'Cron player and not someone who I had played with before, I felt a little bad about having just wrecked a high point vehicle before his first turn... but fortunately this player was quite affable about it, and the game turned out nicely.

The time I was playing a small mock battle with my bro, we were testing out how good IG renegade squads were and my renegade squad of 25 guys assualted 5 CSM (same points) the renegades killed all, but one CSM while they only killed 4 renegades. The next turn they kill no CSM and the last marine kills 1 renegade... They only rolled a 1 for their uncertain worth so they obviously broke as soon as combat was lost, so they were overrun... 21 renegades ran from a single CSM. I just imagine,
Renegades: Ha they only have one man left this is going to be easy (all of the other renegades laugh)
(Bob the renegade dies)
Renegades: OH NO BOB DIED RETREAT!!!!!!

...snapshot Kharn right between the eyes with a laspistol, removing his last wound.
I heard my friends whoop and yell and I came over and was like "Seriously!?"

I was playing a small 500 point game against necrons this was the old necron codex mind you. I believe the unit was called a cryptech? Idk, but he was using it to teleport his one unit army across the board constantly. Finally I charge with my Chaos Lord he rolls for his AOBF daemon weapon gets a 1. I say, "wow that hurts!" his squad of KBs and him still kill a few warriors and a cryptech though. Round 2, my Chaos Lord rolls again... A 1... I looked up at the roof and said, "Tzeentch is that you?" and I proceeded to take a lot of damage from the warriors losing all but one of my KBs due to some bad rolling and it being the second round of combat. Round 3 my Chaos Lord rolls for daemon weapon... Another 1.... He kills himself without taking a single wound from the enemy... In the end of the game he won because I forgot to move a rhino up to get line breaker.

Recently I was in a tournament where superheavies were allowed. I played CD/CSM and my list was pretty much fateweaver, 2 soul grinders a brass scorpion and a bundle of troops from both books (pinkies, plagues, cultits)
So in round 2, I am facing unbound knights, proxy knights at that, they are the giant dreamforge ones. 4 knights, 2 are FW, some +4 invul bubble DA dude and some skyfire missile thing.
I figure I am screwed, brass scorpion is awesome, but could be taken out very fast by a lucky knight combat. I got invisibility on Fatey though, so I took the perils on my turns and hit that sucker with invisibility!
Knights still somehow rolled plenty of 6s, BUT, my scorpion took on 2 at once and killed both of them. I lost the game, but really had a good time rolling a bunch of lucky +5 invul saves.
