Thanks guys. I'll agree that compared to a Green Battle Brother, he is quite clean. But when placed next to his Master, it's not very noticeable. His colors fall in line with him and the finish is very similar. Things like weapons haven't been catching the battle damaging, it's usually these that are taken down to the bolt and other assemblies every day compared to something like armor. And considering how much the Heavy Bolter is a part of him, it would make sense that he looks a little cleaner.
Maybe some oil spots could help make him feel more 'in the fight'. Getting those right will be the biggest issue, maybe some Black mixed with Mechrite Red blotted on with a sponge could work nicely there.
I was trying to think of how to paint oil on a mini, I was going to try black with a touch of blue and maybe a bit of gloss to give it a bit of a shine. Not sure though.
Oils are usually brown-black, and the stains will usually be a dark hue of the cloth color. Mixing the color should likely look like this: 50/25/25 Base color/black/brown. I've not tried it yet though. But for oil on armor it's going to be dependent on how thick and recent the splash/spill is.
I don't have a lot of practice in this though, just going on personal experience from seeing these stains and spills a lot in the military!
