Cheers Gits' and yes I am, it's all coming along quite nicely if somewhat slowly (liking the Mantis Warriors painting comp by the way). I've finally started to get some colour on my Maulerfiend, I'm afraid my lack of imagination means it will be good old red and brass of Khorne. I'm also half way through painting Necrosius, hope to post some picks later in the week.
@ Gits' - clever yes but not my idea on the name - this is a forgeworld character from siege of Vraks. Glad you like him! @ Varl - I'll try and get Mrs monkeyh to do some better photos some time (she's the budding photographer). I may do a Nurgle army shot too as it's starting to shape up quite well, but don't hold me to this!
@ Bacon' - He's still there! look in the 'chaos infantry and accessories' section
@poda_t - Thanks mate but I've got all the Nurgle havocs I need for now. This was an old 'conversion beamer' from the genestealer expansion set from the original space hulk game (way back in the good ol' days) which I just stuck the head from the chaos vehicle extras onto. It works quite well as a las cannon.
@ B.o.B. - glad you like it - skin tones in something I struggle with a bit but this one came out OK.

thanks! I was wondering where in the warp that bit came from.
Just awesome. I still can't get over how big the Blight Drones are. That big guy on the left in the back (defiler?) is really awesome! I agree, you need some mech in there.
Thanks everybody, I'll try and get some close ups some other time.
@ Varl - That's Chaos spawn that is - check it out on page 19 - made from Tyranid bits and green stuff.
@Badger - That'a a Forge World Plague Hulk that is. (Close ups in my gallery).
@ Gits' & Bacon' - yes I've got some old land-raiders, rhinos etc. I got from a car boot sale a year or two ago, like everything else it's just having time to give them the 'Nurgle' treatment.
@ Selvaggio' - I think this is in my gallery - somewhere
ah yes. I remember that guy now. the purple wasn't quite as evident in the earlier photos. definitely fitting for spawn. almost makes you feel bad for the poor chaos lords that go poof, doesn't it?
@ Varl - yes I've found that out the hard way - In a battle earlier this year, my Chaos Lord killed a challenger, rolled on the chaos boon table and got something crappy but was able to re-roll - unfortunately he turned to spawn on the re-roll!
Cheers everybody - another 9 to go! Battled today vs Wolves and BA's, purge the alien, 2500pts (lost......again) . However this time I was using Eldar and the new codex. Sadly Karandras and my scorpions got shot to pieces before they could do anything. Khaine hacked through a unit of Saguinary guard, a chaplain, a medic (or whatever they're called) and a few wolves. Unfortunately they cunningly deployed as far away from the wraith guard as possible so they didn't get to shoot much. Swooping hawks with haywire grenades are quite effective on deep strike (as they don't deviate), this is very much a shooty codex, they got some cool guns and most stuff has some kind of rending rule which if you pile enough shots in will cut marines to shreds. Close combat against marines is not a good idea though (although banshees might do quite well with their power swords). A good battle though and a few lessons learnt, I'll be developing my Eldar force and may paint them up. Anyway a few battle pics below:
Looks like fun. Both my kids are wanting to fight the new eldar so I'm going to put together an army out of my old figs to practice with. We'll see how it all goes.
Yay! Gits' is starting a new army - you heard it here first! Seriously though, most of my Eldar are from back in the day, I do like the new models though (except that wraight knight that looks like a Manga mecha). I almost e-bayed the lot but decided to give them a go and now am glad I did. I just added some wraith guard and a few grav. tanks. With a bit of savvy play I think they could turn out into a decent army. I am gonna have to paint some - maybe a new thread starts here too!
A couple of old rhinos done up for Nurgle. These were already painted grey and camo for an old space marine army I never use. So sprayed them over green, washed liberally with rust weathering powders then drybrushed over with a black/gun metal mix before varnishing and doing the details.
Cheers Gits' and Selvaggio. The tracks on the first one are from a 1/32nd scale WWII M3 Stuart, and the front bit on the second one is part of the bogie from a 1/32nd scale WWII Centurion tank - just to make it look a bit different. My only regret on the first one is that I didn't make it so the tracks went round. Next Nurgle Raptor below:

That raptor is possibly the coolest nurgle model IMHO that I have ever seen!
@ Selvaggio - I think these are the best two of the 10 - hopefully finish a few more this weekend @poda_t - do you mean they suck in battle or the models suck (or both)? I've never used any so wouldn't know what they're like, as for the models, they are OK but I don't know, they just don't do it for me which is basically why I don't have any!
@ pj - cheers! more to come soon.
the stat lines were pretty shoddy. It was only a very small chance that they'd be any good, and even then, you'd probably still need to have them "fixed" by having fabius bile take a go at them. There's something to be said for strength 6 marines, but..... mneh, they were expensive for what they did. So I just used the models for khorne berzerkers, becuase they were more dynamic than the zerkers.
But Fabius can only tamper with plain ol' chaos space marine units. Otherwise I fancy some S5 Khorne terminators all armed with lightning claws and VOTLW so they can reroll (all of there 5 first attacks) first missed hits then reroll failed wound rolls (cause lightning claws can) when I battle my mates Wolves and Blood Angels. That way I'd just chop everybody up! Agree pooo-ssessed may not be worth the points though.
Thanks Selaggio'. My new (Iwata) air-brush arrived today (had to throw my cheap Chinese ones in the bin - note to self - don't waste money on cheap tools) so hopefully I'll get back on with the Mauler-fiend soon....
First off you are a legend.
Secondly, add lightning claws, the more the better, even if the character is not allowed them, fit one and call it a powerfist.
tomcat31 wrote: First off you are a legend. Secondly, add lightning claws, the more the better, even if the character is not allowed them, fit one and call it a powerfist.
I do this myself: using weapons for cool-factor only, not for any other reason. The problem is, if you are using it for cool factor, you literally can't field it in your army, because it can get confusing about who's got the lightning claw, and who else just has a fancy power fist. Generally speaking though, i also go by "can they legally take this? if the answer is no, default to nearest basic weapon"--lasgun on marine->bolter; chainfist on line marine or scout->CCW. Besides. Cool factor is now useless. My mate has models that look brutal with their mauls, but with the current rules, those models are now absolutely useless because mauls are weak weapons. (Another wonderful tactic employed by GW to force people to buy their entire armies all over again if they intend to continue playing....)
@ tomcat' - Thanks for bestowing me with legendary status! I must admit I try and avoid arming troops with weapons they can't/don't have. A couple of my Nurgle termies have LC's (see page 20). Also I have 5 Khorne termies with LC's and another 5 more to do. When I've built my Spartan and loaded all 10 LC armed termies into it should mean that when they assault - as they'll all have the MoK - that I'll get 50 attacks in the first round! And if it's against marines they'll get to re-roll all misses in the first round with the VotLW rule, and then they can re-roll and failed wounds, and if it's against regular troops they'll get no saves On top of all that I've got a Khorne chaos lord with LC's - even more attacks!
Ok so I've just gone through all 23 pages hah WOW!...
I see in your whole army shot and some batrep shots a Nurgle Soulgrinder. Do you have any WIP pictures of this? I am very interested in that conversion - it looks amazing.
And btw - this entire thread is just jaw dropping / inspiring. Keep it up!
Cheers Gunzhard glad you enjoyed the read! but that's not a Nurgle soul grinder, that's a Forge World Plague Hulk. Basically when you buy it you get the FW bits and a complete defiler to build it from. And sorry no, I've only got pics of it complete.
Hi All. A few pic's of yesterday's battle. Pleased to say victory was narrowly mine (for a change). We played the Emperor's Will, 2500pts Nurgle vs Orks. We both ended up holding onto our own objectives, my opponent got first blood but I ended up with line breaker and slay the warlord (his Warboss got caught by a sweeping advance! - I lolled). My Nurgle force had to borrow a land raider off their Khorne colleagues but otherwise it's was nearly all painted (except for my plague zombies) - I think it's time for Nurgle land raiders.....
Cheers Gits (happy birthday by the way). And yes he's built loads but sadly painted very little - one day! Anyway - here's a few more troops I've finished off. Now onto bikes and maybe finally the Mauler Fiend I keep mentioning.....
Cheers mate - I must admit I've never really considered myself prolific when it comes to painting. I am now (finally) working on my Mauler Fiend - got another battle coming up in a few weeks and may give it a go if I can get it done in time.....
Cheers Deiyos. Yes I've been asked this a few times. These are Nylon screws (you may know them as machine screws, they're the sort you put a nut on, not the sort you screw into wood) you should be able to get them at any good DIY/hardware store, I find M5 (5mm diameter) works best. Just cut a section off at the angle you want and glue it in place - much quicker then using green stuff!
Cheers Badger' - I'm sure that info is somewhere else in the depths of this thread! Anyway - hope you find it useful. Nearly finished the Mauler fiend - just got to do the base - pic's soon!
@ tomcat31 - Thanks, but trust me I've been working on this for ages! It took several attempts to get the red how to a point where I was happy with it. As I said to Gits' the other day I've never considered myself fast at painting - just burning the candle at both ends between work, spending time with Mrs Monkeyh, drinking , riding my bikes, etc. etc.
@ Gits' - Cheers and yes well spotted on the OSL - tried to keep it fairly subtle though.
Is that a warp talon wings I see on the fairing?
I've used them on my red corsair bikers.
If not, what did you use, I'm always on the lookout for ideas to steal.
tomcat31 wrote: Is that a warp talon wings I see on the fairing?

It is a old plastic shield from the chaos warriors box from a edition or two ago of Warhammer fantasy.
I haven't been able to find out anywhere else, so I thought I'd ask here; what material did you use to make the razor blades on the chain scythe? I'd like to make a chain fist and that stuff looks great!
Cheers Deiyos - the chain scythe is just make from three thin pieces of plastic - the sort of stuff a margarine tub is made from. Clean/degrease first if you use something like this, then just sketch out the teeth with a sharp pencil and carefully cut it out with a sharp scalpel. Then using the same method cut out the side pieces and just glue them on. Then stick it to whatever you want to mount it on - job done. Good luck with it!
You're great! Sorry about all the questions, I'm new to the hobby so I'm still trying to figure things out. I have one last question though if you don't mind, what are the size of the chains you used around the waists of some of the berzerkers?
Hi Deiyos. No worries about answering questions, fire away with them I'm happy to help where I can. As for the chain, this is from an old bit of jewellery that Mrs Monkeyh was getting rid of. I should imagine you can pick something up pretty cheaply with a bit of searching (or try good old e-bay).
Search for Jewelers chain, I believe that is the term for very small fine link chain that most people us for their models. Comes in several sizes/gauges I think.
Battled today. 2500pts Orks & Khorne vs. blood angels, playing the Relic. It was a good game, we started well but the blood angels started to pull things back, the Berzerkers slaughtered the Death company (well Kharne did most of the damage) before everybody was incinerated by their Furisio dreadnought! The fast vehicles of the blood angels did well but they just ran out of numbers in the end, so we won the relic, they got slay the warlord ( ) and first blood, so 3-2, to be honest I thought it was pretty close, and very bloody - not many left on the table at the end! A win's a win though, and that two in a row!
Looks like everybody is on the ball. The fairing on the first bike is the bit that goes over the battle cannon on a defiler - it was almost a perfect fit on the chaos bike! Three more bikes to do then I'm building a Thousand Sons unit (got some nice Kromlech bits), with Rhino - and Dreadnought.
Cheers tc31'! Haven't done any painting this weekend been busy on the house but I'll try and get the last few done ASAP as I'm chomping at the bit to get going with the Thousand Sons.
Thanks Bacon', I've got a couple of Nurgly Havocs I'm finishing off then it's on with the Thousand Sons - already built a couple of them, but got a lot of building to do before paint as there's a Dreadnought and a Rhino to do too.
Cheers mate. Wasn't sure about them myself. Now making good progress on the Thousand Sons. Built the unit. Built the Dreadnought. Now starting on the Rhino, just got to paint the internals and can start putting it together.
Finished off a couple of Khornate Rhinos I've had lurking around for a while. The Thousand Sons are coming along nicely. Everything is built, primed and base coated - painting can now begin in earnest!
I love the simple, almost utilitarian look of it, and I think the practicality of that well suits Khorne marines. The mottled Oxblood-ish hue is great too.
Filtered and read the whole thread (well skimmed it). Nice work. I loved your nurgle stuff. You made use of some max mini parts that i really wanted to see in use on other nurgle marines before i spent any money on them. Great read. Loved seeing your conversion work and your creativity.
@ poda_t and Bacon' - I have to confess I didn't spend as much time and effort on these as the Raiders - but the insides are painted! I think Badger_Bhoy summed it up - they're painted - that'll get them Berserkers into battle well enough!
@ Sennacherib - Glad you like it - those max mini parts are great and I really like the Kromlech stuff too - I'm using Kromlech parts on my Thousand Sons, the legs look just right - I find the legs on standard chaos marines a bit limited which is why I've used Possessed and Raptor legs on quite a few minis as they're a bit more dynamic.
monkeyh wrote: @ poda_t and Bacon' - I have to confess I didn't spend as much time and effort on these as the Raiders - but the insides are painted! I think Badger_Bhoy summed it up - they're painted - that'll get them Berserkers into battle well enough!
*shrug* not faulting you. That's my approach to all my armies lately.
@ Miss Dee - Look at Kromlech stuff - you can get it on e-bay, they do legs, bionic legs, running legs and crouching legs all in this style, much better than the GW ones.
Thanks Bacon' and Badger', nearly finished the sorcerer. Picture soon.
I really like your Thousand Sons there Monkeyh, unique bits and excellent brush work. If you don't mind my asking, what leg bits are you using for them?
Woot! Landmark 25 pages! (Lol). Cheers tme0003, glad you like them. The legs are from Kromlech (get them on e-bay). They do a variety of poses (standing, running, crouching, bionic) in this style, I'll be getting some more as I'm planning Iron Warriors next and I think these will look the business. Also look at Maxmini stuff (again on e-bay) as they also do cool bits.
@Miss Dee - Yes please! Although as this isn't the first time you've sent me stuff, I feel I should send you something in return - any bits you need? - I can delv into the bits box and have a look.
Sorry no Tau bits, and I probably don't have any marine 'bits' (unless it's chaos marine bits - I've got loads) but I can see what minis I've got spare - anything in particular you're after?
Pads and bits arrived today - Ta very much! I'll need to get some more legs to build the unit so if I have any leftovers at the end I'll send them on. Thanks again.
Lookin Good.
Im liking the 1000 sons. They are an underused unit just because they are not the toughest or the most killy thing out there.
Jobs a goodun.
Cheers sennacherib. More photos soon. I've never used them before but my plan is next time I battle SM's to run them in in their Rhino (which I've nearly finished painting), disembark them and shoot the **** out of the enemy with there AP3 bolters
Thousand Sons finished! I have to say I'm quite pleased with them - and it's been a nice change doing something a bit different. So keeping on that theme - Iron Warriors next!
Cheers everyone! The great thing about them is they're really easy to paint. And yes Badger', these are for me (don't have time to paint stuff for other people!). Backpacks are by Maxmini.
I really love the mixing of different bits you've done here. It just makes each marine so much more original/interesting than most other stuff out there!
Which reminds me...maybe I should start printing out some marine bits...
Dreadnought and Rhino finished. Like my other more recent Dreadnoughts it is fully moveable with magnetised body head and weapons for those inevitable 'weapon destroyed' results. I'm now starting on the Spartan assault tank Mrs Monkeyh got me last Christmas!
Battled today. 2500pts CSM's vs Space Wolves and Blood Angels. Got annihilated. Utterly. I literally had a rhino left at the end. Anyway, I'm embarking on a new project - Black Templars. I'd painted about a dozen a few years ago before I got engrossed in my Chaos army and have decided it's time to resurrect them. So these are the last two CSM's I'll be doing for a while (although I have just taken delivery of a legion fire raptor which I'll be fitting in at some point) so no need for a night lord lord yet - thanks Miss Dee.
