I've got this Forgeworld World Eater conversion set and I'm making a squad of Bezerkers. I've built the squad leader with a 'power fist' which I've used from the Possessed set but I'm not sure if it looks right. What do you think? - comments please. If any one is interested, I can post more pics as I build & paint them.

Cheers guys, I'll post more pics as I build stuff. It's going to take me a while to complete these, but I'll try and stick with it until they're done (I've got several half finished projects I need to complete - I'll make sure this doesn't become another!)

So here are a few pics of the next two Bezerkers I've built - only 7 more to go! As each one is taking me a couple of hours - I should hopefully be done building about this time next week.

I can't take credit for the one with the chain glaive, I got that idea from the examples in the 40K rule book. I did another like this that I painted for the space marine conclave that Smurfwedge is currently running, so if you want to see one already painted there are pics there (I think it may also be in my gallery). I've built another but I need better light to photograph it - will post pics soon.

Thanks for the praise guys. I include photos of the next two. Five done - five to go! I'm now thinking if they look good I may treat them to a land raider with FW bits (yes them not me - it's a bit like when you buy a new Amp or DVD player and you have to tell your missus "I didn't buy it for me! It's for the house!"). Anyway, enough of me lamenting about what I can't really afford - here are the pics:

Excellent! They are all, but especially the last two are very brutal looking! very nice! I have been looking at those FW conversions, but limited money has forced me to convert most of my army from old 2nd ed. minis. And my Zerkers are just the standard plastic models. But yours have got me salivating over them, and I may have to find the money somehow! Great job, keep it up!

Cheers Stevey, and yes, it's just two chain axes cobbled together into one. And now for my latest offering. I must admit I'm quite pleased how this one turned out. Used possessed legs with a bit of green stuff to fill in some of the details so the model didn't look too out of place compared to the others. I must admit, whilst I like the CSM models, GW could do with producing some more arms and legs in more dynamic poses. I don't like the ones that come with the standard Bezerkers where they are running - they just don't look right. Anyway, here we are:
Hope you like.

a note on your double-headed chain-axe: YOINK!
As for combining posessed with berzerkers: I have done this across the board wit hall of my berzerkers. I dont see how the slide into khornate insanty wouldn't be accompanied by khornate mutations and strength boosters.

Thanks for your comments. Here's the latest. Chain-scythe anyone? It's not perfect but it looks better than the first version where the blade was longer than the marine was tall! I've never seen anything like this and I wanted something a bit different. One more to go!

You should use two chain swords back to back (Cut half of them and make them point in a triangle) or maybe axe+chainsword and some bone for the tip on the scythe.
Other than that, really cool stuff

AAAAAARGH! DISASTER HAS STRUCK! Primed them all and the primer came out all lumpy! There was alot of cussin I can tell you. Undercoat didn't help, and shading with and ink wash made it worse! Tried scraping some paint of one and repriming it by brush but it just looks Gack Investigating stripping them all with 'simple green', if anybody can offer any further advice (Have just read WarOne's article) then it would be much appreciated. Scipio, in this kit, you get: 10 heads, 10 torsos and 10 sets of shoulder pads. You need to supply arms, legs, bases, weapons and backpacks. They do look much better than the standard marines, as long as you don't f them up with dodgy primer.

Simple green works. It might take several baths for you to get there, but it does work. Just be *incredibly* careful when you are brushing it clean so you don't snap anything On that note, i been told superclean works too.... except.. its a bit caustic, so you may find yourself having to reassemble everything depending on what glue you used if you used superclean.
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Thanks poda_t, a litre of simple green is winging its way to me as we speak. Feeling a bit better about it today, knowing I should be able to salvage them. Also feeling good 'cause the land raider I won on e-bay for the unit turned up today! - just got to order the FW bits.

Really sorry to hear about the disaster. I overcame a smiliar situation not long ago with my FW Eldar Titans. I have since used Gunze Sangyo 'Mr. Surfacer 1000' ever since. Probably the best primer I've ever used.

Just be sure to be _incredibly_ ptient. Don't expect everything to lift off immediately. Drop it in for a week, carefully brush down, rinse off, and plop it back in. I always take a month to strip my minies because after that month, it always pays off. I've done the rush 24-hour jobs, it works, but this is a hobby where many many things need doing. At any given time I am running 30 models through stripping, and trying to paint up 60, complete building another 20.... planning conversions, schematizing buildings.... the list is long.... better just to be patient and give the chemichals more time to do their magick properly.

Salvation is at hand! Just in case anyone is still watching, the Simple Green has worked its magic, most of the disastrous primer is removed. I've still got a little bit of scraping to do, but hopefully I should have some primed and under coated, lump free Bezerkers over the weekend. In the meantime - I've painted this (still got another 9 to do!)

These are actually bits of bike spoke, it's just the right diameter and is really strong, the only problem is it's quite hard to cut.

Thanks GiraffeX. The armour is dead flesh base (Vallejo), washed with skin wash ink (Vallejo) shaded a bit with a mix of dead flesh and an unlabelled pot of darkish green I got from a car boot sale, then all the edges of the damage etc highlighted with more dead flesh.

Very nice poses on the berzerkers. I like how the FW upgrade set looks even though you have your models in non-static positions.
The double handed chain axes, the chain glaive and the thrusting poses are my favorites.
Sorry to hear of the primer troubles but glad to know you were able to salvage the terminators.
I'll look forward to seeing the squad painted.

No! From a bicycle that you ride! But don't cut some out of your bike wheel or it may collapse! (actually you could sacrifice a spoke - but you may get a bit of a kick/buckle in your wheel), go to a bike shop and get one, they only cost a pound or two.

The terminators were ok - I primed these after I ditched the can of bum primer. Now primer troubles are hopefully over - I've just finished scraping off the last of the paint and have re-primed the Bezerkers - they are drying as I type this. Hopefully basecoat tomorrow and the real painting can begin!
Capitansolstice wrote:Amazing dynamic posing
Thanks! I'm gonna do another 10 as I've just taken delivery of another land raider for them (can't have an empty land raider - mind you I've got plenty of terminators to fill it with) and my mate gave me some more Orky chain axe type bits - it would be a waste if I didn't make use of them.

The terminator is just Nurgle - it's got nothing to do with Khorne! It was just something I was doing whilst the bezerkers where having a bath in Simple Green. But thanks for all your comments. If anybody wants to get these they are again the FW conversion kits - I just added a few bits like the heads hanging off the chain around his waist, the disease/pustules on his arms and legs etc.
Update on the 'zerkers - I've now successfully primed them - base layer going on today

Yes - another Land Raider ready for the next squad I'm planning - just got to get more doors and tracks for that - and got to get the FW conversion kit for the Bezerkers - I just hope my wife doesn't find out how much I've been spending recently (Mind you - she is about to buy a new car so I think I can justify it )

Aha! I was wondering if somebody would ask about them! The joints are cunningly made from bits of nylon screws (you may know them as machine screws - they're the sort that a nut would go on - NOT a wood screw), cut to the appropriate angle. You can buy these from any decent hardware store, you want to get either M5 or M6 size (that's 5 or 6mm diameter ones to all you non engineers). They're fairly easy to cut and trim to the angle you want. The great thing with them is, they look like a joint should look, and you can instantly fix them with superglue, no need to wait hours for green stuff to dry! Glad you like the models.

Here, for your viewing pleasure, are the next two. Only three more to go, hoping to try and get them ready for next weekends impending battle! Also more good news. Bits for another batch of 10 are ordered - these will be done with a samurai them as mentioned earlier in the thread (Gitsplitta - if you're reading this I did leave you some!)

Wouldn't it be possible to take the tips of 4 of the backward curving blades and place them in tandem? Either that or maybe something that replicates an industrial drill/boring bit?

Post by: monkeyh
Good idea poda-t, but to be honest I know exactly how I want to make a chain mace it's just finding the bits as they are from the original 'beaky' mkVI space marines box set - I think somebody I know may have what I'm after.

You got it in one poda_t, they are a mixture of standard marine and possessed legs - the same will go for the next batch.
Inquisitor13x wrote:Great looking models, keep up the great work look forward to updates.
Thanks inquisitor13x - keep watch for LandRaiders coming next - then more Bezerkers - then Terminators with lightning claws!
PS - Battled today - Bezerkers slaughtered a whole squad or Orks in one turn! sadly the inevitable assault from eight Nobz resulted in their demise Good battle - even though I (narrowly) lost!

If anybody is still watching this thread apologies for the lack of posting but there's been a lack of progress. Still building land raiders - these take bloody ages to do! A few pics of WIP attached (sorry the pics are a bit rubbish). It took quite a while to paint all the internals (not that you can see much of them). All the FW tracks are preped, just got to finish getting the las cannon sponsons ready then I can start painting the externals. Magnetised the las cannon mounts so they can be easily removed (for when the inevitable 'weapon destroyed' result is rolled), assault ramps are fully functional and the heavy bolter sponsons and cupolas are removable. I estimate these will take another couple of weeks (wifes birthday this weekend so not much progress then) and then - more Bezerkers! Got the Samurai heads and back packs, just got to sort out weapons.

Hey! love the Bezerkers Monkeyh!!! The chain-scythe has caught my eye, how did you make the teeth for it?? looks really cool!
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Thanks for the support Gits' slugga' and tipios. The chain scythe was made from a thin (about 20 micron/ half a mm) thick sheet of plastic bought for a few pence at a local model shop, just cut the shape of the blade and the teeth out with a sharp knife and stick another couple of bits cut to the shape of the blade on each side. Arrows cut from thin card from a box of energy bars and superglued in place, rivets made from my old favourite - the little beady bits from the inside of a Brita filter. Hope to post more pics of Land Raiders next week.

Oh, also if you want to make them demonically posessed, put plasticard inside them glued to the doors (maybe a bit too late for that), so when you open them, you can paint it like there is this type of Warp Maelstorm in it... I hope you got it

Cheers slugga but yes - too late - nice idea though and I do usually have them as demonically possessed - maybe when I do some more...
Brotherjulian wrote: I see you discovered as I did the FW ramp doors are too narrow, I puttied the side frames out a bit the same way.
Yes the FW doors aren't a great fit, to be honest, for what they cost - I don't think I'll bother again - I'll just modify the ones that come with the kit with some chaos icons. I had to make one of the hinges longer as it didn't reach the lever mechanism to connect it to the lower door - a bit poor really.

Have got some rhinos and FW doors but haven't built the kits yet, I just hope they fit better than the land raider ones!

Well I've ground to a halt with the land raiders, they're all built (apart from the bits I'll glue in place after painting), but I need to find some time to spend getting them primed and base coated - hopefully later this week. In the meantime I've recommenced the building of Bezerkers. Now I've always thought the chaos chainswords were a little bit lacking in something that I just couldn't quite put my finger on - then it dawned on me - they're too small! - I mean, if you're gonna have a chainsword you want a ruddy great huge one like this guy, right?

Well I'm hoping to get some paint on the Land Raiders today - but in the meantime here's a couple more bezerkers including the first of my Forgeworld/Kromlech samurai bezerkers. I thought the swords I'd got hold of from Perry miniatures might be a bit small but overall I'm pleased with how the first of these has turned out. Need to get hold of some more arms and legs before I can complete this lot though.

I just love those builds... Are you using anything for inspiration or just making these up as you go?
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Just kind of making it up as I go, although some of the poses I've 'borrowed' from other minis, this next one being a case in point. I once had some old Warhammer fantasy battle chaos knights and one had this big old chain with some kind of weight attached to it for clobbering the enemy - so I thought 'I'll have one of those'. I've been resisting using the chainswords that come with the chaos marines and tried to make each one a little bit unique. I'm experimenting with making a large whip for the last model in this unit, if that doesn't work it's a big old Ork chain axe!

Well, the truth of it is I have nothing to carry them round in at all because whenever we battle it's always round mine (got the biggest kitchen table) so I only have to carry them through from the spare room! Sorry I can't help, however look through the adds at the top of Dakka and there are quite a few companies who offer carry cases with foam that has been specially cut for 40K vehicles although they are quite pricey
At Captainsolstice - yes they are indeed badass! (he says with a smug grin)
Battled yesterday. 2500pts CSM's vs Space wolves. Me and a mate had split force of my CSM's, half Khorne half Nurgle. Unleashed the Bezerkers and they did alright, although were in the end overwhelmed by a huge squad of wolves. We thought we were gonna cruise at after two turns as we'd trashed on of the wolves LR's and a vindicator but he fought back gallantly and at the end of turn 5 it was a bit nip and tuck. However as it was getting late we called it a draw with all three objectives contested. Fun was had by all although it was a bit of a slog! Here's a couple of pics:

Actually, if you can paint your guys faster there won't be a problem...

Steal away mate.
Colour for the red is all Vallejo paint: White primer, Italian red base (airbrushed on) Sepia ink wash for shade. Then build up highlights with gory red, then 50/50 gory red/bloody red, then bloody red, then bloody red and plague brown just on some of the edges of the armour, then washed with red ink (this is important to get the bright finish). I'll gladly have your Angron (is this the pre-heresey Ronin one or a post heresey Daemon?) - if not, I plan building one (post heresey Daemon) in the future. All the arms are the standard CSM ones, I've just taken a knife to them to get them how I want.

I have to agree with Gits' - the dodgy photography doesn't do justice to their true brilliance only three more to do in this squad! Wondering whether to do the samurai slightly different (must say I'm getting a bit bored with red and gold) - any ideas anyone? (I lack any real imagination)

OK, #1 - I didn't realize how huge the brass scorpion model is! Holy Jeebus!
And #2 - That is one amazing army! I love the mix of old and new you have going on! From the Old Dreadnaught, to the OOP metal Juggernaught! And everything in between! Awesome!
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Thanks everyone!
@ Godric - I'll do my best for skulls for the throne.
@ Gits' - Cheers! It'll look even better once I've finished it (OK, that will never really happen -but it's a nice idea! After the rest of the 'zerkers got more termies and rhinos to do)
@ Seb - glad you like it all
@ RSJake - All the old RT stuff I did when I first got into warhammer years ago when I was younger and skinnier - one or two of them are my favourites, and that greater brass scorpion took ages!
The Nurgle part of the army is only about half this size - got loads of stuff in kit form or unpainted - I'm one of those people that buys stuff much quicker than I can paint it - my objective is 20,000 points +, not that I know anybody with an army big enough to take on - but they are working on it. Basically I saw the army in the Apocalypse rule book and thought "I want an army that big!".

Cheers Slugga'. Now for the first of the Samurai. Not quite finished yet as I've only done one side of the banner - opinions please - does it look OK? I started off with an oriental style symbol of Khorne which looked rubbish so decided to try something else drawing ideas from tattoo art, what do you think?

Really like the way are turning out.
For the banner I would anyway try to incorporate the classic Khorne symbolism IMO.
It will make more part of the army.
Your army is just .... WOW

I agree with SelvaggioSaky... you should check the WoC army book for khorne symbolism

Ah I see - so I need to make it look a bit more evil and less jolly! Agree about the Khorne symbol. May have a bit of practice before trying to re-do this one - even if I end up just sticking the symbol in the corner (may even use a transfer!)

Cheers Viking' to be honest before I read this I had no idea what a Sashimono was, and you're quite right, it is on the wrong way (now I've checked them out on Google), but for me, it kind of looks right - anyone else got thoughts on this? Also have to say I've scraped off the one I'd done as I wasn't entirely happy with it. I'm still playing around with trying to incorporate the Khorne symbol (so far unsuccessfully) - I may end up going for demonic face one side, Khorne symbol the other (still considering breaking an all time rule and using transfers).
Anyway, I'm gonna enjoy some festive cheer before I get back back into painting - it's almost boxing day and I still haven't unwrapped any pressies! Merry Christmas everyone!

Was happy with the horus heresey and space marine battle books, was really happy when I unwrapped a soul grinder, blood letters and blood crushers, but when I unwrapped a large box containing a choas warhound titan, I *** dakka apologises but it has had to censor some input as normal dakka users do not have the necessary constitution to withstand this** *, it was amazing!

Samurai Chaos Warhoud?
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Themed? No, it'll just be a plain old warhound. Although to my horror:
Mrs monkeyh said "being as I bought it I get to name it"
Me "Err - OK"
Mrs monkeyh "we'll call him fluffy"
Me "WHAT?!!"
Mrs monkeyh "you know - like the three headed dog in Harry Potter"
Me "How am I to strike fear in my enemies if they find out he's called fluffy?"
There then follows a number of other equally rubbish suggestions as to what to call him. So any sensible suggestions would be appreciated

Post by: Gitsplitta
"Fluffy" it is then.
Can't argue with Mrs Monkeyh...
A) she bought it
B) she has decent logic for her decision
and
C) domestic tranquility is to be promoted at all costs... if you're wise.

Besides the fact that people would have to live with the fact they got bested by a Warhound named "Fluffy" would make it well worth it.

Hmm - So far 3-1 in favour of fluffy, not entirely happy with this although it got a cheer from Mrs monkeyh, although there is something in humiliating my opponents by them being destroyed by 'fluffy'. Not convinced but Im wavering.....

Wow! That is one awesome lady you have there! I would definately let her name the Warhound whatever she wants to. Besides, you can paint the name on a banner or something, and use REALLY intricate script and no one will be able to read it anyway!
And if a gamer asks, tell they are runes, and it means "destroyer of worlds" or something!

@ RSJake - Like the idea - I may well run with this.
@ Whigwam - welcome! More on the way soon - still trying to get the back banners how I like them.
@ King Pariah - Also like this idea
@ Slugga & Selvaggio - Yes I am swinging towards this way of thinking - always up for humiliating the opposition
@ prototype_X - Will tinkledeath be humiliating enough though?
It does look like it's heading the way of 'Fluffy', however I may take the liberty of extending it to Fluffy the Destroyer Automatically Appended Next Post: Just popped 'fluffy' into google translator and in latin it comes out as Crinitus - maybe Crinitus Rex? (Fluffy the king) or Crinitus quae Exterminatore? (Fluffy the Destroyer)

not dreadnought, but the GK Dreadknight

Slugga - I like the idea - I had considered converting one of those dreadknights into a chaos contemptor dreadnought (don't like the forgeworld contemptor model much), but to be honest, with everything I've currently got boxed up and awaiting work: 1 Chaos warhound, 1 box of bloodcrushers, 1 box of bloodletters, 1 soul grinder, 3 rhinos, 1 box of Daemonettes, 1 baneblade to convert into a plague-reaper, 1 FW Nurgle sorcerer, 12 raptors to finish painting, 9 Nurgle terminators to finish painting, 1 Nurgle Daemon Mamon and herald to paint, 1 great unclean one to strip and repaint, 16 metal plague bearers to paint, 5 terminators with lightning claws to build, plus 2 old land raiders, 2 rhinos, 1 vindicator and 1 predator I got from a car boot sale to repaint/convert to Nurgle, 10 thousand sons, 1 fw Thousand sons dread, 1 blood slaughterer and a partidge in a pear tree - I don't realy fancy taking on any more projects just yet! Sadly I buy stuff quicker than I can build and paint!

Happy 2012 everyone. We've had a bit of a rough start, Mrs Monkeyh had to pay £300 to get her car fixed after the electric window packed up, a huge tree blew down in the garden narrowly missing the house (plenty of fire wood now though) so now I've got to chop that up, and there's "trouble at 'mill" with things not going too well at work (pay cuts/job losses on the cards). But looking on the bright side, here's the next samurai. I've tried to make the banner look a bit fleshy like it's made from skin, but I've now got it into my head that this guy looks like he's about to use his sword to bat that marine helmet back into the enemy ranks!

Here's my latest effort. Picture's a bit rubbish as I had no natural light (well that's my excuse). This one reminds me a bit of Judge Dredd - I think it's the face. The banner is a bit basic, but I wanted variety - it is after all the spice of life!

@Saintspirit - I have to say the possessed bits are great and are more like what I would expect a regular chaos marine to be like.
@Selvaggio' - 'Fraid I cheated on the banner - it's a transfer from the old chaos space marine transfer sheet! May use a few more as I'm feeling lazy and just want to get the last five done and dusted so I can move onto new things.
@Gits' - I'm pleased with how they're turning out - those samurai bits work really well.

are they from Blighted Nyss them swords?
43399
Post by: monkeyh
These swords are from perry miniatures:
http://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_38&products_id=2325
Looked high and low for samurai swords - not many places seem to do them, but this lot specialise in old Napoleonic, American civil war, English civil war miniatures etc. They're £6.50 for 30 metal ones. But if you need some I've got some spare I can send you if you pm me an address (being as I owe you some bits for those chain blades you sent me).
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I've used those same swords with my Mantis Warriors. I really like them.
43399
Post by: monkeyh
And a bargain compared to what some companies where asking for a single sword.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
No kidding. They are very reasonable sized too. In the world of stupid-large 40k weapons, there is something very elegant and somewhat menacing about a normally sized blade.

you should consider maybe updating more models at a time
43399
Post by: monkeyh
Cheers slugga', I've got another one in this unit with a plasma pistol so we'll see how he turns out. After slow progress of about (ok - maybe less than) one mini a week - I'm boldly attempting to complete the last five by this time next week! My prefered method of doing one at a time is proving far too slow. I've got the next five based, shaded and the gold highlighted and hopefully I should get some time at the weekend to finish them off. Then I'm going to lay off the painting for a while, whilst I concentrate on building some of my huge backlog of stuff so I can at least use it in battle even if I have to endure things being naked!
