Illegal immigrants see ‘free pass’ when crossing US border, expert says @ 2014/06/25 02:31:10

Post by: Jihadin

The significant increase of migrants illegally crossing into the United States has sparked growing concern, leading some officials to say the spike in apprehensions is turning into a humanitarian crisis.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection has reported 52,193 children apprehended between October 1, 2013, and June 15, 2014 -- an average of 205 children per day.

Fox News National Security Analyst KT McFarland spoke about the crisis with Fred Burton, a former U.S. State Department counterterrorism agent who currently serves as vice president of intelligence at Stratfor, a global intelligence firm.

Burton explained the number of border apprehensions so far in June has been 1,100 a day.

“We’re are probably about two, three weeks away from a larger group of illegals heading toward the Rio Grande valley,” said Burton. “The bulk of these children, as well as [adult] females and males, are from Central America.”

This has border officials worried that they could be overwhelmed by the influx of people trying to cross.

“They are learning if you make your way to the border now you are literally going to have a free pass into the United States,” Burton told McFarland.

One law enforcement official told Burton Friday “many of these individuals in numbers of 50 to 100 are crossing the Rio Grande River into the United States and just waiting for the U.S. border control to pick them up.”

Critics have blasted the federal government for weak border controls along the southern border. This has the potential, Burton says, to hurt U.S. national security.

“We have absolutely no idea how many others [not appended] are getting through,” said Burton. “The influx of these large volumes of migrants is causing resources to draw away from the issues … like counter-terrorism [surveillance].”

Where is the free pass here? It's sure not evident (to me) in your quote... They're getting sent back, after all.

Unless it's that a lot are getting through because we don't have enough towers to stop a zerg rush?

The children are a form of "Anchor Baby"
The illegal Aliens can halt deportation by filling out a form. They become a register "Illegal Alien" who paperwork is being processed.

This strikes me as one of those classic issues of double think. If loads of people are detained each day, then that's evidence that there's millions more and the problem is out of control. If hardly anyone is detained, then that's evidence that government isn't catching anyone and the problem is out of control.

There is some more information here. I was unaware of some of the recent exceptions being made for non-Mexican children.

And its going to get worse over the coming years. As for the numbers being deported the Admin is counting the ones being turned away at the border.

A more impartial account of what's going on.

Obama did an exec order that would suspend deportations for some kids that meet DREAM criteria. None of these kids flooding across the border meet DREAM criteria.

Central American nations got word of it and completely misunderstood what is going on. Government agencies in those countries poured fuel on the fire with a government paid media blitz of misinformation that it's blanket amnesty for all children.

Families are paying coyotes their life savings to smuggle their kids into the US. The kids turn themselves in. It's so bad right now that estimates are it's going to be 90,000 kids for this year.

ICE is so overwhelmed all they can do is call the kids family members who are in the US to pick the kid up. The kid is court ordered to report back for deportation at a later date, released to family who are usually also UA, and the kids don't show up for their court dates.

That's if family shows up, when that doesn't happen ICE ends up stuck holding thousands of children in ICE facilities that are primarily designed to hold convicted felons who are awaiting deportation.

It's a train wreck, and most of these kids are going to be really hard to deport because they are really young, have no ID, and often times ICE can't figure out what country they are from. These are not mexican kids, it's almost entirely central american countries doing this.

You know what the real problem with boat people and what Tony Abbot is trying to solve? Boat shoes! These items of foot ware are a travesty and the only way to stop good hard working Australians from wearing them is to stop the import via boat people.

Who did the American Indians steal the land from, and before them who stole the land from the previous occupants? Making out like the only wave of colonisation that ever happened was post 1500 is stupid, really stupid. People have been stealing land since the dawn of time. No original inhabitants exist , next you'll be saying we have to hand everything back to the neanderthals. It is impossible to determine who are the 'original' inhabitants - it's too far back to determine.
It's pure white hubris to suggest history in the "new world" started with white peoples arrival.

What the hell?

First up, trying to drag up centuries old border changes as a means to justify anything happening today makes no sense.

Second up, not every Mexican belongs to the same family. The people crossing the border today aren't descendants of the Mexicans living in areas that the US expanded in to.

You are correct, sir. The Navajoes and Hopis were pissed at each other a few years back because one tribe was gathering Owls for ceremonies on the other's land. The Hopis were bithching about the "newcomer Navajoes", coming in centuries ago and taking over land the Hopis owned. I don't know how many times the Black Hills changed hands due to tribal wars before white men appeared on the scene.
The Aztecs were noted sweethearts on the social scene down in Mexico long before Cortez arrived. These are just a few examples I have time to mention.
There is no monopoly on land being taken or abuse of a conquered people. The only difference was technology level.

I might not know your country's history as well as you do then. Insightful though your response may be, can you elaborate?

But I think reverse colonialism is HILARIOUS.

It's only really reverse colonialism if you conflate people by their color, and not culture. Chicago, for example, is known to be a large point of confluence of illegal immigrants, and I doubt that any of them are from any of the tribes that were native to the area. That's about as much reverse colonialism as if the Moors were to illegally immigrate to Sweeden because, hey, they once occupied part of Spain and it's all Europe after all, right?

And no, no one (here) is competing for that toilet cleaning job. We are concerned about the fact they're getting paid under the table, and that the job could be hypothetically given to someone who is on welfare, and that they're indirectly increasing (for some questionable values of increasing) healthcare costs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not really losing sleep about it, but I see how it can impact those less fortunate than me, and that IS a concern.

And then there are always the unspoken benefits of the presence of illegal immigrants. In what should be needless to say, the situation (like most in the world) is much complicated than a simple "they took are jerbs", or "lol Americans have white man's guilt".

As I recall, most of the people who were living on land ceded to the US remained there.

So all that really happened for them was the address on the tax forms got changed.

While I am not certain what the exact situation in Australia is in the US there are some parallels. Illegal immigrants can receive public assistance, housing, and healthcare. Their children can also attend school here paid for my the tax payer. What little they contribute through sales taxes is far outstripped by what they take out of the system. Illegal immigrants were given the opportunity to apply for deferred action if they met certain criteria, this would enable them to get work permits. I had just emigrated here legally at the time and those who broke the law to get here were receiving their work authorization paperwork ahead of legal migrants. It took over twice as long as it should have for me to get my Green Card - both these have a direct impact on my family. We have rallies held in Washington D.C. where illegal immigrants stand, proclaim their unlawful status in public, and demand rights without fear of deportation. We have trouble with gang members, especially MS13, thinking we operate a catch and release system when they enter the country illegally, get deported, and do it all over again.

For anyone concerned about the long term impact of illegal immigration look at California, with it's huge illegal immigrant population that shows they take considerably more than they give through all manner of public assistance. They just recently balanced their budget but had to slash public assistance and pensions, as well as raise taxes.
http://www.illegalimmigrationstatistics.org/illegal-immigration-a-113-billion-a-year-drain-on-u-s-taxpayers/
A study released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that illegal immigration now costs federal and local taxpayers $113 billion a year. The report, The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers, is the most comprehensive analysis of how much the estimated 13 million illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children cost the federal, state and local governments
The cost estimates are based on an extensive analysis of federal, state and local spending data. The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers examines dozens of government programs that are available to illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children, both legally and fraudulently. The report provides detailed analysis of the impact of illegal immigration on education, health care, law enforcement and justice, public assistance, and other government programs.

The report also accounts for taxes paid by illegal aliens about $13 billion a year, resulting in a net cost to taxpayers of about $100 billion. However, the study notes that government at all levels would likely have realized significantly greater revenues if jobs held by illegal aliens had been filled by legal U.S. residents instead.
Federal spending on illegal aliens amounts to $29 billion, finds Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers. The lion’s share of the costs of illegal immigration is borne by state and local taxpayers an estimated $84.2 billion. In 18 states, expenditures on illegal aliens exceeded the size of those states’ budget deficits in FY 2009.

Among the key findings of The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers:

The $113 billion in outlays for services and benefits to illegal aliens and their families represents an average cost to native-headed households of $1,117 a year. Because the burdens of illegal immigration are not evenly distributed, the costs are much higher in states with large illegal alien populations.
Education for the children of illegal aliens represents the single largest public expenditure at an annual cost of $52 billion. Nearly all of that cost is absorbed by state and local governments.
The federal government recoups about one-third of its share of the costs of illegal immigration in the form of taxes collected. States, which bear a much greater share of the costs, recoup a mere 5 percent of their expenditures from taxes paid by illegal aliens.
Granting amnesty to illegal aliens, as President Obama and others propose, would not significantly increase tax revenues generated by current illegal aliens. However, over time, amnesty would dramatically increase public costs as newly-legalized aliens become eligible for all means-tested government programs.
Arizona’s annual cost of illegal immigration is $2.5 billion.
“The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers provides a definitive response to the question of whether illegal aliens are a net benefit or a net drain on government coffers,” stated Dan Stein president of FAIR. “The report examines virtually every federal, state and local government program to determine the impact of illegal immigration on the bottom line. That bottom line $113 billion a year, and growing makes our nation’s failure to control illegal immigration one of the largest preventable burdens borne by American taxpayers.”

“If political leaders in Washington and state capitals want to understand why the American public is demanding enforcement of our immigration laws, The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers, provides 113 billion good reasons,” Stein concluded.

http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/immigrationnaturalizatio/a/caillegals.htm
In hosting America's largest population of illegal immigrants, California bears a huge cost to provide basic human services for this fast growing, low-income segment of its population. A new study from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) examines the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens, and concludes that the costs to Californians is $10.5 billion per year.

Among the key finding of the report are that the state's already struggling K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals.

"California's addiction to 'cheap' illegal alien labor is bankrupting the state and posing enormous burdens on the state's shrinking middle class tax base," stated Dan Stein, President of FAIR. "Most Californians, who have seen their taxes increase while public services deteriorate, already know the impact that mass illegal immigration is having on their communities, but even they may be shocked when they learn just how much of a drain illegal immigration has become."

The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Californians focuses on three specific program areas because those were the costs examined by researchers from the Urban Institute in 1994. Looking at the costs of education, health care and incarceration for illegal aliens in 1994, the Urban Institute estimated that California was subsidizing illegal immigrants to the tune of about $1.1 billion. The enormous rise in the costs of illegal immigrants over the intervening ten years is due to the rapid growth in illegal residents. It is reasonable to expect those costs to continue to soar if action is not taken to turn the tide.

"Nineteen ninety-four was the same year that California voters rebelled and overwhelmingly passed Proposition 187, which sought to limit liability for mass illegal immigration. Since then, state and local governments have blatantly ignored the wishes of the voters and continued to shell out publicly financed benefits on illegal aliens," said Stein. "Predictably, the costs of illegal immigration have grown geometrically, while the state has spiraled into a fiscal crisis that has brought it near bankruptcy.

"Nothing could more starkly illustrate the very high costs of ‘cheap labor' than California's current situation," continued Stein. "A small number of powerful interests in the state reap the benefits, while the average native-born family in California gets handed a nearly $1,200 a year bill."

The Federation for American Immigration Reform is a nonprofit, public-interest, membership organization advocating immigration policy reforms that would tighten border security and prevent illegal immigration, while reducing legal immigration levels from about 1.1 million persons per year to 300,000 per year.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2004/dec/6/20041206-102115-6766r/
Illegal immigration costs the taxpayers of California — which has the highest number of illegal aliens nationwide — $10.5 billion a year for education, health care and incarceration, according to a study released yesterday.

A key finding of the report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said the state’s already struggling kindergarten-through-12th-grade education system spends $7.7 billion a year on children of illegal aliens, who constitute 15 percent of the student body.

The report also said the incarceration of convicted illegal aliens in state prisons and jails and uncompensated medical outlays for health care provided to illegal aliens each amounted to about $1.4 billion annually. The incarceration costs did not include judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of the crimes committed by illegal aliens that led to their incarceration.

“California’s addiction to ‘cheap’ illegal-alien labor is bankrupting the state and posing enormous burdens on the state’s shrinking middle-class tax base,” said FAIR President Dan Stein.

“Most Californians, who have seen their taxes increase while public services deteriorate, already know the impact that mass illegal immigration is having on their communities, but even they may be shocked when they learn just how much of a drain illegal immigration has become,” he said.

California is estimated to be home to nearly 3 million illegal aliens.

Mr. Stein noted that state and local taxes paid by the unauthorized immigrant population go toward offsetting these costs, but do not match expenses. The total of such payments was estimated in the report to be about $1.6 billion per year.

He also said the total cost of illegal immigration to the state’s taxpayers would be considerably higher if other cost areas, such as special English instruction, school meal programs or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal-alien workers were added into the equation.

Gerardo Gonzalez, director of the National Latino Research Center at California State at San Marcos, which compiles data on Hispanics, was critical of FAIR’s report yesterday. He said FAIR’s estimates did not measure some of the contributions that illegal aliens make to the state’s economy.

“Beyond taxes, these workers’ production and spending contribute to California’s economy, especially the agricultural sector,” he said, adding that both legal and illegal aliens are the “backbone” of the state’s $28 billion-a-year agricultural industry.

In August, a similar study by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, said U.S. households headed by illegal aliens used $26.3 billion in government services during 2002, but paid $16 billion in taxes, an annual cost to taxpayers of $10 billion.

The FAIR report focused on three specific program areas because those were the costs examined by researchers from the Urban Institute in 1994, Mr. Stein said. Looking at the costs of education, health care and incarceration for illegal aliens in 1994, the Urban Institute estimated that California was subsidizing illegal immigrants at about $1.1 billion a year.

Mr. Stein said an enormous rise in the costs of illegal immigrants in 10 years is because of the rapid growth of the illegal population. He said it is reasonable to expect those costs to continue to soar if action is not taken to turn the tide.

“1994 was the same year that California voters rebelled and overwhelmingly passed Proposition 187, which sought to limit liability for mass illegal immigration,” he said. “Since then, state and local governments have blatantly ignored the wishes of the voters and continued to shell out publicly financed benefits on illegal aliens.

“Predictably, the costs of illegal immigration have grown geometrically, while the state has spiraled into a fiscal crisis that has brought it near bankruptcy,” he said.
Mr. Stein said that the state must adopt measures to systematically collect information on illegal-alien use of taxpayer-funded services and on where they are employed, and that policies need to be pursued to hold employers financially accountable.

Executive Summary
DHS
This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Among the findings:

Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.
Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).
With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.
On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.
Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.
If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.
Costs increase dramatically because unskilled immigrants with legal status -- what most illegal aliens would become -- can access government programs, but still tend to make very modest tax payments.
Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.
The fact that legal immigrants with few years of schooling are a large fiscal drain does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a net drain -- many legal immigrants are highly skilled.
The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit they create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work.
The results of this study are consistent with a 1997 study by the National Research Council, which also found that immigrants' education level is a key determinant of their fiscal impact.

Yes. Texas independently rebelled against Mexico and was briefly independent, but the US was ceded most of Arizone, New Mexico, california, Nevada, and Utah after the Mexican War. Very technically the US paid for the land, but when you sign a treaty while a foriegn power occupies your capital, you're probably not getting the best deal, you know?

To be fair, the land was very sparsely settled, and in many areas (texas and california most notably) american colonists were approaching the number of Mexican residents.

I'll agree with that.

There's a study out there, (can't seem to find it) that immigrants, including illegal aliens are less prone to crime than are native-born Americans.

After reading that, I was thinking: Americans... you crazies!

You're asking people to have sympathy for people who break the law to come here, then demand preferential treatment? If these people are truly refugees then there is a way to obtain refugee status - and the US even offers assistance in obtaining that status. If they are here and trying to claim asylum they need to present themselves within a year of entering the US. Want to take a bet how many don't? Or how many won't meet the criteria to remain in the US?
I'm sorry that their country is "broken". But that isn't my concern. I will tell you how you don't fix a broken country - and that is by everyone leaving it.

Which is why there are "priorities", such as deporting violent fellons instead of children that have lived in the US for more than 5 years prior to 2012. Although that is part of the problem according to you.

Is it bad when you try to make a parody argument and it sounds exactly like most arguments you hear?

You're asking people to have sympathy for people who break the law to come here, then demand preferential treatment? If these people are truly refugees then there is a way to obtain refugee status - and the US even offers assistance in obtaining that status. If they are here and trying to claim asylum they need to present themselves within a year of entering the US. Want to take a bet how many don't? Or how many won't meet the criteria to remain in the US?
I'm sorry that their country is "broken". But that isn't my concern. I will tell you how you don't fix a broken country - and that is by everyone leaving it.

Oh, I agree, The only immigrants I feel sorry for are kids who came here and where educated in america. But I do think the a path to citizenship is something that needs to be made easier, but in the end I see to many flawed arguments for(and against) Immigrations based on sympathy.

Which is why there are "priorities", such as deporting violent fellons instead of children that have lived in the US for more than 5 years prior to 2012. Although that is part of the problem according to you.

Okay

Why feel sorry for them? They came here illegally and had the chance to get a great taxpayer funded education. They can now use that to help improve their country of origin, and thus help stem the flow of emigration.

$4 billion should be able to hire a lot of charter flights to repatriate illegal immigrants. Shame it won't though.

Only those selected to be deported. Morton memo's covers the priority of who are to be deported. An Immigration Judge decides who are to be deported. ICE Attorneys decides which cases appear before a Immigration judge. All others are release with a future court date to appear before a Immigration Judge to decide on their status.

Those who are slated for Refugee status can draw upon SS benefits for eight years. Those benefits are funded from deceased citizens SS accounts. They also are allowed to apply for family members by filling out a request called Advance Parole allowing them to enter the US. Those individuals also apply for refugee status and are also eligible to apply for Advance parole for their family members or not renew the Advance Parole card. They're not deported being their not consider a priority.

No they get arrested, giving a court date and released (normally near a bus station). From there it is their job to leave the states. You can guess how many leave.

I'd be interested in finding out the percentage of people who actually show up for their hearings after being released.

This also apply to those who are eligible for DACA.
Why do an executive order for DACA when those individuals are already protected by the Morton Memo's.

My Dad immigrated to the US. He sees himself as American. In his youth he went through all the interviews and paperwork.

My recently departed wife was an immigrant. I had to figure out all the papers myself, and pay thousands of dollars in fees. She died before she could become a full citizen but was a permanent resident.

I love legal immigration. It can be enforced. It should be. No one has a right to be here unless they have the approval of the US Government. That approval must be earned. To throw away the hard work I did for my wife and make it a freebie to others is insulting.

And when they are an adult and remain in the country unlawfully they should be fully responsible for their situation. Or if you are trying to equate it with crime then perhaps the illegal minors should be culpable when they reach the age of criminal culpability

I would love to see the media, the administration, or someone explain how kids 14 and under traverse multiple borders through rough terrain and climate conditions to make it from San Salvador to San Diego. Trust me, 12 year old Paco and his 10 year old hermana Maria don't just take on that journey to 'escape the violence'.

Explain the logistics involved and the support systems put in place, and who put them in place and why.

Make a big deal of that info and I strongly suspect real and workable solutions present themselves.

Google Translated for ya, seems it's good enough to get the ideas across

BEACHES Catazajá, Chis -. Upon starting the program Frontera Sur, Enrique Peña Nieto president warned that Mexico is convinced that the migration must be addressed from a regional, co and human perspective.

Accompanied by the president of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina, the governors of Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Campeche and Tabasco, and cabinet members, President Peña Nieto said that this program, with five lines of action, has a dual purpose: protect and safeguard the human rights of migrants entering and transiting through Mexico and sort international crossings to increase the development and security of the region.

The Southern Border program envisages strengthening actions against national security cabinet criminal groups that attack migrants intelligence work of Mexico and Guatemala along the border and exchange of biometric information in real time between the two nations.

President Peña Nieto was in favor of achieving a safer south, and ordered that the relationship with Central help develop the entire Mesoamerican region border.

"In the past, the Central American countries and Mexico work together to end the conflict and bring peace to the region. If you were able to overcome that challenge, today, I'm sure we can also improve the conditions of regional migration, "said federal executive.

If countries said, unite wills and undertake efforts, will ensure dignified, humane treatment for migrants.

In his speech, President Perez Molina said the program specific actions for a prosperous, modern, secure border, with orderly migration flows and with respect for human rights.

Highlighted the vision of President Peña Nieto that "instead of putting walls, obstacles and difficulties," has vision of togetherness.

Agents of the National Migration Institute (INM) and other authorities should ensure full respect for the rights of cardholders.

The second point focuses on providing more security for migrants, so the proper operation of the 12 official border crossings will ensure 10 with Guatemala and Belize and two points will be converted into customs review of Comprehensive Care Centers Border Traffic with participation of the INM, the SAT, the Federal Police, the Department of Defense and the Navy of Mexico, among other agencies.

Peña Nieto President gave instructions to the Cabinet to increase security measures against crime; Segob, along with officials from Guatemala, strengthen intelligence work.

The third point of protection and social action centers on duplicate medical units, improve shelters and detention centers, and support centers DIF "Outdated" by the growing child migration.

The fourth point of regional responsibility, is aimed at putting in place the mechanism for special care of children and unaccompanied migrant, with El Salvador, United States, Guatemala and Honduras.

I thought this relevant. Please excuse the hyperbole laden source. I usually try not to repost directly from Bearing Arms or TTAG (The Truth About Guns), but this article brings together a few separate reoports in a cohesive whole. (Posturing and propaganda aside.)

http://bearingarms.com/fed-protesters-open-carry-firearms-michigan-march-criminal-aliens/?utm_source=bafbp&utm_medium=fbpage&utm_campaign=baupdate

Nothing conveys a sense of clear displeasure with the actions of a rogue government than showing up to protest their actions with firearms:

More than 50 people from across Michigan turned out to protest the possibility that a Vassar facility could house Central American children and teens who have fled into the country.

The group, led by Michiganders for Immigration Control and Enforcement organizer Tamyra Murray, marched a little more than a mile, from Vassar City Hall to Wolverine Human Services’ Pioneer Work and Learn Center.

Some carried AR-15 rifles and handguns, while others carried Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flags, American flags and Rochester resident Jeff McQueen’s “second American revolution” flags, designed from Betsy Ross’ flag with a Roman Numeral II in the middle.

“We’re not against kids,” Murray said, speaking to media before the march started. “We have sympathy for the kids being used and exploited by the feds.”

I can’t say that I’m all that surprised to see a convergence of open carry with other political messaging, though I’m sure that the radical anti-gun left is going to have a hissy fit. Ladd Everitt and the CSGV are sure to scream that these lawful protesters are “insurrectionists” for daring to display their disdain for the illegal alien invasion that many Americans feel was orchestrated by the Obama Administration.

Local law enforcement didn’t seem to find the protest to be a cause for concern, and the handful of officers that appeared to keep a watch on the situation had a decidedly relaxed posture.

* * *

The attitude further south is a bit less relaxed, as the Minuteman Project and other militia groups are announcing plans to stage a presence on the U.S. Mexico border in an attempt to stop the flow of OTMs (“Other Than Mexicans,” a Border Patrol term for criminal aliens from central and South american countries).

Some of the individuals and groups planning to attempt to impede the flow of criminal aliens—something that neither the Republican Party nor Democrat Party politicians seem to have any real serious interest in stopping—plan to be armed, and at least one group has publicly stated an intention to threaten criminal aliens with firearms.

The planned resurgence of the Minuteman Project comes amid more confrontational calls to action along the Southwest border in the form of several loosely organized anti-government groups recruiting would-be armed border watchers for patrols. Gilchrist insisted his group will obey all state and federal laws during their patrols.

“The one rule of Operation Normandy: Stay within the rule of law,” he said. “Whatever you do, stay within the rule of law.”

But Gilchrist distanced himself from Chris Davis, a 37-year-old Texas truck driver and leader of a militia group that had promised to deploy along the border to confront and intimidate illegal immigrants. Davis, who posted a 21-minute YouTube video last week, has since removed the clip in which he reportedly said: “You see an illegal. You point your gun dead at him, right between his eyes, and you say, ‘Get back across the border or you will be shot.’”

Davis, who could not be reached for comment, told the Los Angeles Times his group aimed to supplement law enforcement officers with its “Operation Secure Our Border,” focusing on the Laredo sector, which encompasses 116 counties and covers 101,439 square miles of southwest and northeast Texas, including Brooks and Hidalgo counties, the epicenter of the current immigrant influx.

“There’s nothing malicious, there’s no malicious intent — every person is vetted,” Davis told the newspaper. “We’re just here to serve freedom, liberty and national sovereignty.”

Doing as Davis advises is of course assault with a deadly weapon. That some citizens are so frustrated that they feel compelled to publicly discuss such vigilante actions says quite a bit about the failure of the federal government to secure the border.

There are concerns that the presence of these groups along the border could lead to confrontations with criminal alien smugglers (“coyotes”) and drug cartels bringing drugs north across the border. Both human and drug smugglers are often armed, and the possibility of a firefight between armed citizens and groups of criminal invaders is a very real possibility.

Soooo..... why do you need guns to protest against Federal immigration policies?

The attitude further south is a bit less relaxed, as the Minuteman Project and other militia groups are announcing plans to stage a presence on the U.S. Mexico border in an attempt to stop the flow of OTMs (“Other Than Mexicans,” a Border Patrol term for criminal aliens from central and South american countries).

Oh, this will end very well.

Don't worry, they are all liberal false flag operations to make gun owners look bad.

You cannot kill that which has no life

Unless you somehow managed to get your hands on the Sword of a Thousand Truths, but that doesn't shoot bullets
