Hello Everybody!
Before we begin, here is a little bit about myself, my name is Ashley and i've been into W40k for nearly the last ten years of my life, I've always been addicted to the thrill and satisfaction of converting my own models as well as the feedback. I first dived into the hobby with Assault on Black Reach and have been hooked ever since, after Orks and Imperial Guard, i've now moved onto Chaos in it's entirety, Almost every model i own is heavily converted (aside from metal and finecast) and i figured now was the time to make my blog and show the world! For future reference, my chaos lord shall be named Ostragoth Maternus, and my first list i'm working on is, suprise surprise, Daemon Engine based!
Making a blog is something that has often been requested of me and i'd like to give a BIG thank you to some fellow hobbyists that inspired me along the way -
Insane Psycopath's Iron Warrior's Blog - http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242456-iron-warriors-5th-grand-company-army-log/page-1
- I first saw his army in White Dwarf (The one that released the most recent lizardmen codex) and i was blown away, i loved the paint scheme, i adored his conversions, and best of all, his army got me into the Iron Warriors, i previously used to play Death Guard (My DG will be inducted into my IW as a plague themed list). I had to find as much pictures of his army as i could, as i was even more happy i found his blog. Without seeing this army, my love of chaos probably wouldn't hve been sparked the way it has!
Biohazard's World Eater's Blog - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/399556.page
-Another hobbyist who's conversions helped kickstart my adventure into the depths of the warp, his dreadnoughts and berzerkers heavily inspired mine as well as the reason my first list was daemon engine based: Due to seeing his Gorehound (An AMAZING scratchbuilt warhound) as well as an awesome bipedal defiler conversion with a name that escapes me :p
KrautScientist's World Eaters: Khorne's Eternal Hunt - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/432972.page
-Similar to BioHazard, his World Eaters have inspired a lot of my conversions. His Wargrinder is a really cool conversion as well and his chosen are excellent! Another thing i really like about his blog are his dreadnoughts and infantry, his chaos marines and renegade guardsmen also provided me with a lot of inspiration.
Now onto the show!

So after a lot of debating and thoughts about how to convert obliterators, i've finally settled on a decision that i'm happy with, I'm going to convert the Skaven Stormfiends. Prviously i had thought of using regular terminators and converting them or picking up space marine centurions.
Then the Stormfiends were released!
As you can see, i've added a lot of armour plates to the model, such as elimintating the rat "silhouette" by adding armour to the feet/shins as well as giving him greaves and pauldrons pillaged from my bitz box. The head is from an ogre from warhammer fantasy and fits quite well. I've put together a gas mask styled helmet i quite like as i was mucking about deciding on a head. As with most of my chaos work, it's very WIP. I still need to settle on an adequate head (the one shown i like but still), add something of some description on his back as there is a large flat space begging for conversion work and probably some more guns on his arms. The other two obliterators are under construction.
As well as the obliterators, i've also picked up a knight amongst plenty of other third party conversion parts and terrain. Here i have built the legs and posed it as if it's crushing the remains of an imperial chapel (The basing is ruins of osgiliath). I've still to do the body and arms, but i love what i've done so far, and just had to present it

I'm really digging your obliterators. I have been looking around for an alternate model myself-can't stand the GW obliterator sculpt. I love the head you found. Fits perfectly.

Great to see you start your own blog -- and cheers for the shout out! That is very nice of you to say!
As for your first models, it looks like you are off to an amazing start! The wrecking ball arm on the Alpha Brute, Dark Apostle Conversion and WIP Heldrake particularly stand out to me -- excellent job!
Your Obliterators are also coming along nicely! A very smooth blending of the Stormvermin kit with some chaos bitz!
Looking forward to your next update!

Unfortunately my update was a little bit later than originally intended, no matter!
First off we have my forgefiend i converted last october and have yet to touch up before spraying and painting, i really like the fiend model but i also wanted to break up the quadruped appearance and so made it bipedal instead, I love the new look more than default model! It's a really simple conversion to do as well and some pretty neato poses are available! The main reason i love this model is that i built the head from scratch, it was originally an ork blitzabommer gunner's canopy and i added sentinel armour plating and some smoke launchers to represent eyes. I then used some baneblade plating to build a...jaw(?) i guess you could call it, and then added lasher tendril tips as teeth. I'm extremely pleased with the results to be honest
I've also dived into worship of the blood god as i've started constructing some berzerker squads, this pair of chaps are the only two that i could say are "done" (aside from painting) and i'm really liking the results. The original intention was to give them chainaxes from anvil industry, but i felt that marauder axes would reinforce their barbarity as well as enhance the unique look i'm going for....As if the plethora of pillaged parts didn't already help In the two games I've used my half built berzerkers, they've destroyed so much opposition and i can't wait to finish them
I also took another shot of my Obliterator. Since he last showed his face on this thread, he has been given a barrel on his back, as well as a head that has been glued on as opposed to the previous blutack. I intend to add some piping from the barrel into his back, as it could possibly contain promethium or oil (I recall reading in the CSM codex that obliterators bleed oil or something like that) to assist in the power of this might beast! Other than that, i'll likely invest in some small guns (probably melta or flamers) to add to the side of his arms. I don't want to add large weapons to the model such as a lascannon as i love gatling guns dominating the appearance of the model...I love gatling guns.
I also picked up a squad of spess woolf fenrisian wolves to use as chaos spawn, I really liked the idea of my Iron warriors deploying packs of war torn doggies to push the line in conjunction with units such as berzerkers or raptors instead of really unfortunate chaos marines (by that i mean chaos spawn )
And last but not least, some very WIP berzerkers bearing icons of wrath and a havoc with missile launcher. The havoc is pretty much done except for a paintjob.

While there isn't an obliterator champion in the rules, i still wanted to convert a nit "Sergeant" of sorts, to make good use of the cool pose. Currently the champ is posed as if he's trampling a marine sergeant (and obviously still very WIP) but i'm considering swapping it out from some rocks or ruin from the 40k terrain kits. We'll see what i can do shall we?
A rather large shipment of neoreich parts from maxmini also arrived as i intend to convert Wolfenstein:The new order themed renegades and cultists. More on those later though.
Next update will be large and you'll likely see-
Brass Scorpion
Obliterators update
possible helbrute update
Renegade guardsmen
Plague Marines
A new (and clearer) berzerker shot
Let's see how many of those i can squeeze into the next update

I like how your Oblits are very beefy looking & not so wormy-squirmy. That always bothered me about the GW Oblits.
77701
Post by: ThunderFury 2575
Cheers!
A large muscular and beefed up look was what i was originally going for, clad in massive plated armour
Over the course of making them i often felt they resembled chaos ogryns better due to not having writhing flesh plastered all over their body. No matter, i think they look great personally and even prefer this look over the super fleshy GW ones

I agree. I imagine their ability to change weaponry is more akin to the way a transformer works... metallic elements spinning and switching around until the correct new configuration has been attained.

Post by: Luciusletroll
That's an huge work ! Keep it up
77701
Post by: ThunderFury 2575
Gitsplitta, that transformer idea is really cool! I'm thinking of making some slight adjustments to my oblits to represent that
And thanks Lucius! Your thread is coming along quite good as well!
Here's my large update, to show everything that hasn't made it into the thread yet (well...most of the stuff , but that's for later! ) Unfortunately i'm dodging between the idea of making 2 defilers OR a brass scorpion from the tried and true "build a scorp from 2 defiler kits ermahgerd" approach, so hopefully i'll come to my senses and have something to present later next week.
First up we have 3 chaps i'm intending to turn into warpsmiths, i have names sorted for them as well. But you'll discover them once they've have actually been finished. I'm having major issues settling on heads as well as a shortage of mechatendril-esque parts. Sounds like i'll have to dig up my other bitz boxes so not all hope is lost! Regardless, i felt i should present them and their (almost nil) progress thus far.
Second being my berzerkers in a much clearer picture! As much as i adore chain axes, i already have a very large amount of marauder axes (Which i'm counting as chain axes funnily enough) leftover from my cultist and plague marine conversions so i felt that they could be right at home on some berzerkers, The results look really cool to me and i'm happy so there will be more to expect in the future!
Here are some of my plague marines i've been running in games as of late. Still WIP obviously. I really love my plague champion with his big scythe
Another small update on my alphabrute. Just gave him a drill leftover from the stormfiends, mostly because i felt it was right at home on an iron warriors brute
Now, here is one of my first big iron warrior conversions, and probably one of my proudest (shy of my obliterators) - An Autocannon forgefiend, i was extremely satisfied with the results of this one as i built the head from scratch as well as having to pose the bugger, which wasn't really all that hard but still. I posted a pic of this fellow a little while back but i only took 1. So i felt he should make a glorious comeback.
After my Autocannon forgefiend, we have my ectoplasma forgefiend! Built in a similar way to the previous fiend, but also constructed much quicker as the head isn't too different from the base model aside from the horns and painstakingly attached skull (mostly because i had to get the right angle when cutting the head to plop the skull on). Also without even realising... I've created a rather cowish looking forgefiend. Much to my amusement after it had finished gluing
In the morning i'll post the progress on my renegade guardsmen! As it's getting late and even the most devout of chaos need sleep
Automatically Appended Next Post: Next update will hopefully be brought to you by my new camera, so no more bad pic quality! Yay!

Awesome conversions you've got here, those Obliterators are absolutely fantastic
I'm also slightlty terrified by the giant cow-headed forgefiend, not as much by the entire 'Chaotic demon engine of pure evil' thing, but more by the mindset of the insane Warpsmith whose idea it was to put A GIANT COW HEAD ON A MURDER MACHINE THE SIZE OF A HOUSE. I'm trying to imagine the look on the Hereteks faces once they realized what he'd done.
And it is absolutely hilarious
On an unrelated note, where did you get that wrecking ball for your dread?

Hey mate,
wow, you seem to be on a roll here! Love the additions to the converted Stormfiends: They were cool before, but now they are truly original and no longer look like Skaven models with tacked on chaos bitz!
The fiends are looking cool too, although I have to admit I am not yet 100% sold on the heads -- especially the first one. I will reserve judgement until I've seen them painted, though.
Regarding the Warpsmiths, I'd advise you to think outside the box for the Mechadendrites: Why not use Necron arms and legs to construct suitable servo-limbs? I've done the same for my own Warpsmith, and it worked really well! Personally speaking, I think that barechested charioteer had better be used as a berzerker champ, btw: He seems a rather awkward choice for a Warpsmith...
In any case, keep up the amazing work!

Post by: ThunderFury 2575
Thank you all for the feedback!
The forgefiend heads do feel like they are missing something, so i'll put them back on my work bench for a little bit nd see what i can add to them, even if it's just so minor adjustments. I feel the ectoplasma fiend is missing some things
And Kraut, i do agree on what you said about the barechested warpsmith, so i've amputated the torso and attached a marine tank commander's torso (you know, the one with all the cabling and stuff ) as well as a backpack and some sentinel chainsaws on the backpack. I'll post a picture of this fellow later tonight, i really like what i've done and the intention is to make him a chaos apothecary of sorts but to count as a warpsmith...or whatever, depends on the points value of the game i'm in. The leather pants that comes with the model will be painted a fleshy colour, inspired by fabius' flesh trenchcoat and to reinforce the fact that i'll call him a "Fleshsmith". Kroot accessories will be of great use too
I've also built my chaos knight....Finally
But need to add some stuff to the back armour. So far i'm loving my work on the legs.
Maybe i'm just narcissistic

The wrecking ball itself (as in the angry spikey sphere of doom ermahgerd! ) was plundered from spares in the stormfiend kit with a lasher tendril from the maulderfiend

Unfortunately, my updates and progress have been drowned in school assignments and otherwise homework. Regardless, i have snapped some shots of some of my recent progress!
First up, i chose to build two defilers instead of the brass scorpion, and looking back on it i think i would've preferred a scorp, but oh well. They're still fairly WIP. Next time i get a chance, i'll probably finish them off soon, but i'm still doing more assignments at the moment so that could take a little bit.
Second we have a bit more progress on one my brutes, as i'm trying to break my irritating routine of half building a conversion and then starting another! A sub theme i forgot to mention for my army is a sort of western front/trenchers appearance, so i felt it'd be at home to attach some woodden boards to my brutes and other vehicles, to represent to hastily equipped extra armour in an area of near constant warfare. Also because this feels right at home on the iron warriors!! Other than that, i picked up an imperial sector boxed set from GW and finally got off my ass and built some buildings! And for some reason I REALLY enjoyed making these buildings and can't wait to pick up some more :O
Oh and lastly here is a chaos dread i built ages ago when i first jumped into chaos and had little parts to work with. Needless to say, i think i've done quite well considering half the parts aren't even from chaos.
Next update will see my warpsmiths
And a nice little scratchbuild of mine i'm very proud with

Sorry for the long pause in updates, school assignments and studying had gotte nthe better of my hobby time.
Nonetheless, here is the scratchbuild i inted at showing in one of my previous updates. As my Iron warriors have a lot of trenchfighting, WWI/II inspiration i felt it was only right to make a vindicator inspired by the Stumgetshutz II F used by the Axis powers during the Second World War (i think i spelt that name wrong), also known as the Stug for short. It was mostly built with leftover rhino and russ parts i picked up here and there and originally was going to get Ork'd for my blood axes. But i could pass the opportunity of getting a vindicator for my army.
I still need to put the tracks on, add another pauldron for the marine popping out the hatch, as well as just polish the model here and there (so to speak) by adding tidbits and stuff that make it less obvious of a scratchbuild. Still need to do a lot of work around the cannon too! Despite it not being done (like most of my conversions >.> ) i was so excited and just had to share it. I'm really happy with this one honestly.
Expect another update later throughout the following weekend!
Thanks for any feedback!

The tank's looking excellent, mate (although the actual German word would be "Sturmgeschütz" ).
The one thing that sticks out to me is the head of the Marine: It does seem a bit too hairy to work for an Iron Warrior, in my opinion: Something colder and more aloof would work better, if you ask me.
Keep up the amazing work!

Sorry for such a gap in the updates, the cable i use to transfer photos to my computer had gone missing!
I've finally gotten around to painting some of my chaos marines, and while i'm not a pro painter, i do think i've done fairly well and i'm quite proud of myself. However i couldn't get a good photo of my chaos marines so they look a little..off.
As with all my models, my chaos marines are extensively converted. I'll show the rest of my chaos marines in the future, likely involving my berzerkers and plague marines!
I've also finally finished the modelling stage of 2 of my helbrutes, I grew to dislike the skull on my alphabrute and so built him some gasmask looking apparatus, to reinforce the western front, siege type look i was going for. One of my other brutes has been done up by adding wooden boards to represent hasty repairs as well as stowage (likely attached by the warpsmiths that maintain the brutes)
Hopefully i'll be able to show my other two brutes finished soon (As i have four currently).
Thanks for any feedback!
I've got some real nice ideas hidden for next update, so stay classy gentlemen

Looking good so far
The first brute's gasmask looks pretty sweet, what did you use to make it? Gives me a bit of a Death Guard vibe
The other hellbrute looks a bit off, not sure if a half-dead Astartes would appreciate being used as a pack-mule; but I guess it could work for the work-horse Legion that is the Iron Warriors
Keep up the good work!

Post by: ThunderFury 2575
Thanks for the kind words gentlemen! It keeps me motivated to continue working on my chaos
@Ezra Tyrius: Just some leftover fiend piping, a marauder skull pauldron and an offcut from a fiend part (Can't remember which one)
@e.earnshaw: I prefer dreadnought, sounds more intimidating in my opinion
So after quite a bit of a hobbying break ( As i didn't have the motivation to continue modelling after my assignments ) i've finally managed to finish off my first Obliterator squad, and i'm VERY happy with the results, the reason i'd taken so long building them is due to me not knowing how to finish off the backpack/engine of the oblits. However i also managed to clean out my room in my hobby downtime and discovered A LOT of kits it didn't even know i had or completely forgot about. One of them being an industrial powerplant type of kit with hundreds of parts, including barrels, piping and such. I believe i picked the kit up to assist me with daemon engine conversions and it's not hard to see why as i've used piping to create some badass exhausts for the Obliterators. I've also changed the base of the Oblit "Champ" as i didn't like how he was standing on a dismembered marine. It didn't look right. So now i've got some trampled terrain which i think suits the base far better. I Just need to add some sand/gravely stuff to the bases and paint them
I've also picked up a 1/35 Panzer VIII Maus kit which is excruciating to build, and i intend to turn it into a renegade baneblade counts-as, when i finally finish the bloody thing. I just need to pick up some more baneblade bitz off the web such as sponsons and stuff, maybe some more chaos tank accessories too such as hatches and so on . Hopefully next update won't be too long, i've still got plenty of goodies to display!
EDIT: Apparently i uploaded one of the pictures twice, can't figure out how to delete it...So.. oh well ._.

The progress of the Baneblade Maus has ground to a halt as i'm short of some more baneblade parts unfortunately.
So here is a small Dark admech themed update!
In the meantime, i managed to pick up a pack of ghouls and stormvermin super cheap at my local FLGS because they had a sale on select warhammer boxes...for some reason..
The intention is to make some dark mechanicus allies, with the stormvermin being counted as skitarii rangers (probably two squads of ten with two arc rifles each as well as princeps omnispex) and the ghouls will be converted into servitors for my renegade guardsmen! I think they'll fare quite well as deformed, augmented mutant henchmen for my hereteks.
I also converted an abomination from leftover forgefiend parts and good god i love it. I named it a tech abomination and is still very WIP. One thing i always wanted to do was build plenty of Dark Mech robotic...things..
I'd actually intended to convert something like this for awhile. and what motivated me to continue with it was seeing a very very similar conversion in the blanchitsu section of the Skitarii based warhammer visions that was out up until quite recently!
I'll probably count it as a Daemon Prince
Next update will likely be:
- Renegade Guardsmen/Cultists
-A truckload of chaos marines that i've neglected to show
-Updates on previous projects!

As promised, i have some shots of my renegade guardsmen (which will be used as cultists until i properly kickstart my renegade guard army, as all i have currently is a possessed russ and chimera, amongst some other things). One of my earlier posts teased some plunder from maxmini, which is to say the "Neoreich" heads and FG42 autoguns. I can't recommend them enough - they're of damn good quality and almost no damage to the moulds were found, despite the usual brittleness of resin. The only problem was that the parts took two months to arrive from maxmini :/
The General theme i'm going for with my renegade guardsmen is akin to that of Wolfenstein: The New order. With the whole futuristic german-esque appearance. This ties in with my Sturmgeshutz (hope i spelt that right) vindicator that was posted previously (and i still needa finish the bloody thing!). As my renegade guardsmen army progresses, it will be joined by my dark admech and hopefully i can make some more wonderful conversions that are in line with that of the game such as the angry four legged walking thingo of doom and some uber soldat ogryns!
The general intention is to continue the western front theme as well, so my sergeants will be armed with entrenching tools and trench shotguns to mimic this as well as gas masks evidently!
I've also finally decided to sit down and construct some proper iron warrior marines (Which are still quite WIP!) for my army, as opposed to dodging between various forms of cult troops such as my numerous plague and berzerker marines (which will be shown again soon hopefully). They're pretty much made from the usual chaos marine kit, as it's a great source of parts, berzerkers, because they have the chained armour and bulkier legs that i love (but slaanesh be damned do i hate the arms in that kit), which look great on iron warriors. Moreover, parts from the space marine command squad are present as well as those of the new devastator kit, i found the optic toting heads to be quite valuable when converting weapon specialists as it adds that extra sprinkle of flavour!
How i intend to run my chaos marines are as follows-
10x Marines, meltagun, Autocannon, icon of vengeance
Champ w/ Combi gun
Rhino with Havoc launcher at the least
Aside from that, i've finally gotten off my butt and started painting again! I found i had very little motivation to do anything as of recent events, which is why this blog had stagnated a little... But since i've dove back into painting, i can say i'm really enjoying it, especially considering i've found my recipe for some gritty iron warrior paintwork! Take a look!
i've still got some more things to show soon, but we'll found out about those later!
..And hopefully at some point i'll figure out a way to upload these photos in between the text so it's easier for ya'll!

Right lads, so i've (ever so almost, gotta add some trophies and stuff) completed the two squads of csm, I've also picked up some forge world iron warrior parts lately to really seal the theme I've got going I'm still mucking around with ideas on the champions, the idea is to make all my champions look like warsmiths/chaos apocs because i think that'd be really cool, especially with my legion's close ties with dark mechanicus.
Two Rhinos have also been converted up for the two squads, one is done, and the other is pretty close to being done!
Other than that, also converted an objective marker, this one is themed after khorne and directly inspired by insane psychopath's iron warriors over on bolter & chainsword, i highly recommend taking a look at his blog, it's really worth it! I'm in the process of converting more markers as i write this
Aside from that, i've also got some more dark mechanicus to show, i ditched the idea of the handgunner muskets from fantasy as they didn't look....right...nor 40k enough, so i picked up a squad of skitarii and built some vanguard and then used the galvanic rifles leftover on the stormvermin rangers! The intention is to run them in squads of 5 with two Transuranic Arquebuses and an omnispex each.
I'm thinking of running the vanguards with 8 men and 2 plasma calivers/arc rifles in the future.
As always, i'd love to hear what my fellow hobbyists on dakka have to say!
Next update will be tomorrow, stay classy ladies and gentlemen

Hello again chaps!
Got a pair of chaos techpriests (Hereteks) to show you all!
The first was made with a host of parts, such as those of the imperial guard, killa kan, vampire counts corpse cart rider and a skull probe for the head. This particular heretek actually won me a conversion competition at my local GW and i was very very pleased!
The second heretek is a complete WIP and it basically a warhammer empire mage with a skitarii head.
And Ezra Tyrius, i forgot to mention, that the extra armour on the rhinos is just some plastic wood plank things from a WWII APC kit i picked up ages ago. I do not know what the name of the vehicle was unfortunately :(
As always, let me know what you think everyone!

Good day once again fellas
Got another forgefiend on the way, with two hades autocannons and clearly quite WIP in it's current stage, as much as i think the usual dinobot sort of appearance the default forgefiend has going on is pretty awesome, i felt like trying something new and still dino-y and without having to scratchbuild a head completely like for my previous forgefiend (which can be found on page 1). So i settled with the head of a troglodon from the lizardman kit with the same name funnily enough
What i still need to do is add more armour plates to the carapace, as is evident. Pimp up the exhausts more, add a dino tail, probably from the troglodon kit again. Add some cyber-doo-hickeys to the trog head itself to tie it in better as well as put on the other hades autocannon.

So I just saw this blog, and I have to say, this is great.
The StuG is pretty cool (it's on my list of favourite tank-things, second only to the italian semovente) and the trololol head looks great on your forge-thing, better than the normal one I'd say, but doesn't he need 2 more legs? he doesn't look too balanced ATM, looks just as if it was going to fall forward, but I don't really know anything about the kit.
Also love your chaos marines, I happen to love Iron Warriors but I just hate painting silver so mine end up as Hazard Stripe Warriors, with a few spots of silver

Right lads, so other than my huge variety of other modelling projects i've got going on, i'm also working on an iron warrior renegade guardsman costume that is based off my converted cultists/renegades with the stahlhelms and gasmaks
My intention is actually to go as an iron warrior noise marine next year for supanova 2016 in Sydney, Australia (coz oi'm an auzzie m8ey ) , and this renegade costume will be a small project in the meantime for fun, costuming experience and also because i typically go in a group for costuming.
So if i succeed in my noise marine costume then my renegade guardsman will go to whoever goes with me (Because marine costumes need a handler more often than not due to their size and lack of vision and so on)
This will be my second costume made, my first being a deathwish themed payday 2 costume, with the suit, full body armour, painted equipment/weapons and everything - I went with a large group of other heisters to this year's supanova in sydney and i gotta say, i quite liked all the photos we got
The equipment i'll be donning is basically just a considerable quanity of military surplus/costume equipment i've picked up over the years, such as the helmet, gas mask, dog tags and gloves and so on.
What i've got planned is -
- Helmet + Gas Mask with badass paint job!
- Black coat with fur/belted collar
- Cargo pants (preferably black or dark camo-ish)
- Iron warrior Dog Tags (not to be used as ID, but more a symbol of allegiance)
- Armour including chestplate, scrappy pauldrons, kneepads/shingaurds
- 12 Gauge Bandolier
- 12 Gauge trenchgun type thingo which doesn't make any frickin sense because it's break action AND pump action (wut)
- Black rugged combat boots
- Hand Axe (Only for photoshoots at home\, not wandering around town with in costume )
The helmet shall of course be painted soon to match the iron warrior colours, i'm thinking of warning stripes along the side of the gasmask and the brim of the helmet maybe? As well as the obligatory eight pointed star on the forehead of the helmet!
I'm also going to spray and paint a pair of my dogtags and make them look all iron warrior-y with some warning stripes (gotta love them stripes *drools* ) and some decals from the tabletop minis, such as the iron warrior symbols from the vehicle decal sheet!
Aside from that, i've also got some leather gloves that i think could easily suit the part as they look suitably punk-ish
And last but not least, i decided to dodge the typical lasgun of imperial guard costumes and go with a more barbaric and iron warrior ish shotgun that i picked up for $15 at a local K-Mart store. It's a nerf gun in all seriousness. But i couldn't resist it so i bought it!
I picture it being some sort of trench shotgun used in a siege against some loyalist scum!
Being chaos and all, i pictured the fellow using it to not particularly care for the weapon's well-being as well as point blank shoot some loyalist dogs here and there in the cramped trenches iron warriors oh so love, so i applied some blood for the blood god (as in the paint from games workshop) to the weapon, to give it that bloodthirsty feel
I also have a bunch of spent 12 gauge shotgun rounds as well that i'm going to paint up and jam into a bandolier to look extra chaosy and barbaric! ...Also they fit the chamber perfectly O.o
I copied and edited the wall of text from my thread on the Eternal Crusade forum detailing the production of this costume, in case anyone regognised this
As always, let me know what you think of what i've shown today, and i'd be open to any suggestions you may have! And hopefully i can one day figure out how to implement the pictures in between text so that my posts are a bit better, hope to see you again soon!

Thank you very much! It means a lot
Right lads, so while the progress on the renegade costume continues (More on that will come tonight ) i've also got a warsmith i converted for fun with a shopping list worth of different parts i had spare. I'm not sure which sqaud i'll assign him to, but i really wanted to take advantage of the 'Corpse holding' hand from the ghoul kit and i quite like the pose. He looks as if he's just torn apart an unfortunate fellow and just whipped the chainsword back out the chest of the victim and eyeing a new assailant.
He'll probably be assigned as a champion to my next havoc squad as the intention for my champions is now to have
- Regular legionary squads (Also known as csms) will be led by a regular type of champion but with radio equipment and stuff and a chainglaive/combi gun
- Havocs will be led by a warsmith with bolter (and backpack mounted chainsaw)
- Chosen champions will be chaos apothaceries with a combi gun

It's been a while since I've checked up on your thread. Man, you've made some good progress! Have to say those rhinos are superb. Just the right blend of over-the-top-spikey-chaos while remaining grounded in a practical military sense. Absolutely perfect for your Iron Warriors!

Cheers buddy! I really like my rhinos and was going for a siege/trench warfare....improvised artillery....look type of thing haha. I've been watching your thread closely too, it's in my favourites tab and i check it every couple of days
Tonight i hope to show the current paintwork on the reneguade guard costume's gasmask and helmet as well as the PVC armour's progress. They're coming along excellently. Still got a LOT of half finished projects to show (such as chosen, daemon princes, abaddon counts as, berzerkers, noise marines, plague marines blah blah) and the intention is to get those projects knocked off the to do list asap as it's looking weird with loads of half built models lying around that i'm planning to bring to my local gaming club next week!
My army (if it was freakin built at least) would be around 7000 points, including the baneblade maus and knight titan i've neglected to update. The former hasn't changed since last update (missing some important parts as said earlier ) and the latter is more or less done but i'm gonna do some tweaking before i show it.
The plan for the next few days is to -
- Sort out my plague marines and berzerkers, because not only do they look lack luster compared to my new conversion ideas, but i'm also just not enjoying how they look so much (which is why i haven't shown them yet) aside from a couple of them. Therefore i'll use my more recent ocean of spare parts to make some of them look more badass here and there!
- Take inventory of cultists. Seriously, i've built SO MANY over the past years as i've never settled on an appearane up until quite recently; the wolfenstein the new order type look to be specific. On a whim, i'd say i've got about 300 ish cultists, and probaly 50 potential zombies? Don't even know where most of them are, between my two houses and my collection is spread between the two
They're built from a whole range of kits such as bret men at arms, lord of the rings orcs, WHFB zombies, imperial guardsmen, i think there is loads of other sorts of cultists in there too, aside from the typical dark vengeance ones... o.o
- In the event that i find all my blimmin' cultists and get my other cult marines actually in a finished and presentable state (Me being a devout iron within iron without type of guy, they have to be the perfect blend of iron warrior and cult!!), i hope to post them in an update before the end of the coming sunday.
- Meow
- Maybe even finish that hell talon which hasnt changed since i started this thread like 6 months ago or something ._.
Oh and havocs...i'm building lots of havocs too...
In the meantime, have a picture of a lizardman dude from the carnosaur kit i'm gonna turn into an abaddon counts as! This was mostly made because i looked at my bitz box and thought...
"Huh, that guy has a really awesome robotic claw... i very much like the pose too.. it's kind of skulltaker esque... I' LL TURN IT INTO AN ABADDON COUNTS AS BECAUSE I CAN! WEEEEEE!!!"
Later, i'll think of a lore justification as to what this thing is. I'm thinking a micro daemon engine of sorts... Like a genetically engineered lizard..man... with some cybernetic enhancements and assigned as a bodyguard to my highest ranking commander (who you will see very.....very...very...soon )
Maybe a xenos mercenary that has become corrupted by chaos over time and enhanced on top of that? Eh. I dunno, gimme some time to think of something! But i'm open to suggestions too!!

Alright so I've managed to get quite a bit done over the weekend! Oh boy do i have some doozies to show!
Okay so i've got my iron warriors chaos knight to show that i started freakin ages ago.. Still got a smidge to do such as the base and cleanup a little bit of leftover plastic when i was mucking around with previous parts glued to it (I change my mind a lot with making models, as you've probably noticed!)
But now i'm happy with it's appearance and so here it is!
It's just a knight paladin with a bunch of chaos stuff glued onto it really. i tried to avoid lots and lots of parts as i wanted this particular knight to be hazard stripey! My next knight will be a warden....or whatever the one with two big ol' guns is named...and will be heavily inspired by JeffyP's chaos knight in his thread "The Wild Crusade", i highly suggest you check it out as he has kitbashed one hell of an imposing knight!
He has extended the height of his knight and added plenty of spikey doodads to give it a look that squanders the forge world knight! I intend to do the same in what will hopefully be the next few weeks! But i'll need to start stockpiling parts now if so!
One thing i'd love to point out about my knight though is that i'm not using a typical knight head nor a games workshop head...i'm actually using a head a gundam kit i picked up for about $15 i think it was and i think it's named was the ZAKU II?
This post isn't over though ladies and gentlemen!
I've also made some 40k themed dog tags, it all started when i made some iron warrior tags for my renegade guard costume (which i'll show tomorrow is i'm running out of time to post this update! )
I wore my iron warrior tag for a week to school and work and it was met with an abundance of compliments, so i'm also making a mechancius tag as i freakin love mechanicus, and a night lord tag as a surprise gift for my mate! I'm also gonna make a black legion, imperial fist and tau tag for some other buddies! I've always had a habit of wearing dog tags out to town and 40k tags were too awesome an idea to pass up
I'll show some more stuff tomorrow, as i said before....i'm running out of time to write this! D:
Let me know what you think!

Thank you very much! My dreadnoughts were heavily inspired by yours if you didn't notice
And the head for my knight, is from the gundam ZAKU II kit, from their range of plastic miniatures (as far as "miniature" goes when describing giant goofy warmachines )
So i was reading through all the posts in this thread and i noticed i forgot to thank a few fellow dakkanauts for their comments on my work. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that as someone who cherishes feedback of all kinds, and kind words on his minis, it really means a lot So thanks to everyone for all that you've said! It keeps me motivated to keep working!
other than that, soon you'll receive another wave of new csm pictures but while i continue to prepare, i've got something i'd love to show you all!!
This is my Warpsmith... "Ostragoth Maternus".
He's going to be THE big bad leader of the Iron Warriors 10th Grand Company, and as you can see i put quite some work into him!
Fluffwise, i picture him originiating as a chaos marine during the heresy and he fled to the eye of terror with the rest of the iron warriors when the siege of terra didn't quite go to plan. From here on he progressed through the ranks until he became a chosen and eventually a warsmith... who then gradually continued to upgrade his cybernetically enhanced body until he evolved into a warpsmith (from a warsmith).
Due to this transition and newfound rank amongst the 10th grand company, he effectively usurped the current chaos lord with the help of his personal "Muscle" - a terminator champion named "Varduk Kazlek". To reinforce his usurping of the commanding position, he utilised a number of dark mechancius daemon engines of his own creation to reinforce his position of power through intimidation. (And who wants to overthrow theguy who leads the manufacture of all of the angry daemon dino bots?).
With the assistance of his comrade Varduk in effectively SIIINNNDRIIII-ing the chaos lord, Ostragoth allowed varduk to become the second in command of the grand company...up until ostragoth finds a suitable opportunity to backstab and dispose of him too. Possibly involving a faulty airlock or unrestrained helbrute..
I'm going to write a short story later in depth detailing the rise of Ostragoth at a later date, because it's something i'd personally love to do, just as a fun thing on the side
Back to modelling!
Now, the model itself is based on the chaos lord from WHFB, with cabling from a heldrake (on the cape), cabling from a sentinel (the mechadendrites), a chunk of eldar thingy (the spikey thing on the mechadendrites), gargoyle heads from the chaos vehicle sprue (also on the frickin mechadendrites).
The head is from the plague champion in the CSM kit with a rebreather from the cadian command squad and a cable from a stormfiend. The backpack is from a dark vengeance chosen with the sentinel chainsaws. The head of the axe is also from the aspiring champion kit and the other arm is made from the same aspiring champion kit with a hand from a space marine kit and the heavy flamer from the space wolf dreadnought kit i used to make my alphabrute, which will count as the burning brand of skalathrax.
I don't think there are any more parts to mention... but considering this is one of my favourite conversions, i'd love to hear any comments!

Progress on my renegade guard costume progresses and i've repainted my shotgun, by stippling silver all over the previous paintwork and flicking typhus corrosion and blood for the blood god all over it for that bloodied weathered look
Of course i kept the warning stripes and the gun looks fairly realistic atm in person, which i'm super happy with. In additon to this, i added a strap from a laptop carry bag as a sling for the weapon!
Other than that, i've also painted the helmet and gas mask (still need to do the rust effect on the helmet though) with the same technique as the shotgun which is to say, black undercoat, stipple silver everywhere and then typhus corrosion.
For the helmet i'm going to do a long hazard stripe from the forehead of the helmet to the back with a chaos star in the middle of the pattern on the forehead, i'm not entirely sure how to explain it so yeah haha.
The pvc armour plates are almost in a presentable state, just gotta do a lot more cutting so they actually look like armour plates though
other than that, still need to find a big ol brown coat, i've got the paints and shirt sorted. After all of this i'll probably run out into my backyard and roll in the mud repeatedly before i go to the next big pop culture convention! Oh and i gotta do the other side of the shotgun - only one side has blood on it..
Let me know what you all think!

Same here. They're going to look great when painted. I like that you have included some Khorne Berserkers (for obvious reasons!).
The Cow Fiend and the Dark Apostle are a couple of my favourites. The pose on that aspiring champion you used for the Dark Apostle is absolutely superb. I have the same model but haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen!
Work with my havocs continue, as well as my berzerkers and plague marines!
Today i'll be showing you some more little dudes i've been working on, however work has ceased due to a lack of Csm parts...So i'll need to pick up a bunch of chaos marine/raptor boxes soon as i'm sick of running of darn parts for conversions!
Funnily enough, a week ago i picked up a box of sternguard, chaos warriors and spess mareen tacticals, for conversions parts. My guys are slowly beginning to look loyalist as i'm running out of spiky parts
As said earlier, i'm really picky with how i'm making my plague marines look, but i am rather happy with how the champions are turning out, so i'm happy to show them in their current state, a similar deal with the berzerkers too, but i feel these ones are adequate to present!
However, my havocs are looking pretty loyalist-y currently, so i'm gonna need to spike them up soon with tropies and Iron Warrior them with hazard stripes and assorted military doodads.
This is a pretty small update in terms of text, as i don't really have much to say other than that! In regards to my plague marines, i'm dodging constantly between a diseased rotting look and a biohazard rebreather marine type of look, an my conversions are kind of mismatched between the two...and it's bothering my dilemma
I'll update once again tonight with more info!

Another smaller-ish update, with some chaos chosen in the pipelines! They're all still VERY WIP, in fact, i'm holding out on finishing them as i've ordered a bunch of parts from anvil industry and forge world to do so! For some reason i only took a couple pictures, but I've essentially got 2 chosen squads waiting to be built (on top of all my other numerous projects ) .
One squad will be using meltas, another using plasmas and the standard bearer will be an icon , either of vengeance or excess. Probably the latter because FNP In addition, the chosen champions will be converted into chaos apothecaries, as i recall reading about the iron warriors having some beforehand, as well as an interesting conversion project!
They'll be converted from anvil industry medieval legs as well as the new devastator legs (Because those things ooooooze iron warriors), some berzerker/loyalist torsos, raptor pauldrons and of course some capes too! The helmets will be any suitably intimidating helmet i have lying around, such as red scorpion command squad helmets, MKII command squad helmets and so on!
My renegade guardsman costume is progressing too, as i've fabricated some big PVC plates that i've moulded around my leg and battered, i then painted them using the same technique as my helmet and gas mask. More on that later though

Hello everyone!
First off i would like to say that i'm sorry for not posting any updates in the recent months, Between my final school exams, work, social life and numerous other things getting in the way of modelling time i haven't really been doing as much as i'd like to, hobby wise, within the past few months.
Now, i have been making models here and there, and in my downtime I've mostly scratchbuilt ork vehicles as a way to relax as they are easy conversions to make, so expect to see some of those soon
But since all the silliness of late high school, and lots of other things that got in the way of hobby time is over, i'm back, and ready to post again!
So what have I actually started to do for the grand company lately?
Quite a bit! I've picked up numerous kits, such a betrayal at calth, loads more chaos marines, berzerkers as well as lots of fantasy kits too, including lizardmen saurus warriors which i hope to turn into bloodletters, dwarf gyrobombers to count as dark mechanicus styled "plague drones", vampire counts crypt horrors, and the hobbying train is picking up it's pace once again.
While i don't have any fresh pictures at this very moment to post, i still thought i would post this update as i don't intend to disappear any time soon
An update should soon be within the next few days (Hopefully) and i can present what my latest works are. In addition i hope to do a large army shot as it occured to me that most of my updates have only been a couple figures or so each time and i think it's time to get all my little dudes onto the dining room table and say cheese!
I should probably finish that frickin hell talon too. It's literally collecting dust in my display cabinet and it's been unfinished for two years O.o

KernelTerror wrote:Hell yeah you are back !

Cheers buddy, it means a lot
I recall saying a few things in my last post about betrayal at calth, assorted orky goodies and even a counts as blight drone..
So needless to say, i've picked up betrayal at calth, a few CSM boxes as well as a Berzerker kit. Hopefully this will supply me with enough chaos marines for quite some time, and the intention is to divide the parts and create some more cult marines down the line, most likely being noise marines next as i really want to have a go at painting those vibrant colours.
The two chaos tactical marine squads i've started assembling are still rather WIP and some of them need touching up with items such as trophies/baggage and others are even still in need of an arm But so far i'm building the two squads to be of this loadout-
10 CSMs
1 x Plasma Gun
1 x Autocannon
Icon of vengeance
Champ with Combi Plasma
Rhino with Havoc Launcher
This loadout is the same as my melta chaos marines, but obviously packing plasma instead.
I've also made another Chaos apothecary out of spare parts and i intend to use this as another chosen champion, as well as a new potential forum/steam avatar once painted. You'll see more on that later
And finally, on the chaos front we have a Blight drone (still VERY heavy WIP) count as made from a dwarf gyrobomber. I still need to add chaos icons and stuff to make it rather evident of it's allegiance. Currently the pilot only has a head swap to tie him in with the rest of my chaos guardsmen. I picture it being some sort of hive/forgeworld helicopter used for transporting goods such as food or materials, that the forces of chaos have hijacked and converted to use in warfare.
Now, with DEM SPIKEH BOYS OUDDAH DA WAY i'd like to present an assortment of ork vehicles i've scratchbuilt over the past several months of hobby downtime. They're all nowhere near done, aside from the truck battlewagon and the tracked wartrukk as they've basically just been mashed together with parts when i've been bored or otherwise procrastinating to study (I mean finished my studying *cough cough*) as well as just a good way to relieve stress. I didnt originally intend to present them, and since i've been slowly starting more and more ork vehicles over the weeks i'm tempted to set up another thread purely for them.
From today's selection of pictures, we have:
- A Wartrukk which was built from the chassis of an old toy panzer IV
- A Battlewagon made from some weird amphibious APC from the second world war
- Another battlewagon, this time made from an american military truck
- A Kustom Battlefortress underway
- And 3 Big Trakks, all going to be sporting dual big shootas and Supa Kannons.

Thanks a bunch fellas, it means a lot!
While the progress of Ork stuff is mostly dormant for the time being (it's a 'pet' project remember? ) My chaos is going strong with new goodies.
I've pretty much finished constructing my two Iron Warrior Squads and here is a group shot of 4 built squads. I just need to buy two more rhinos to complete all 4 squads' loadout, and i've also finally decided to make my chaos squad champions chaos apothecaries, originally that was intended for just the chosen squads. Havoc champions shall remain the pseudo warpsmiths though. Really all that remains now is to finish off the champions, base and then paint my little power armoured dudes!
In case you forgot, the loadouts they are running is -
10 x Csms
1 x Plasma/Melta
1 x Autocannon
Champ w/ Combi Plasma/Melta
Rhino with Havoc Launcher
In addition, i have also acquired a 3d printer.... so...FUN TIMES AHEAD!!
First off i printed a wrecked dreadnought terrain piece. Which is of an astounding quality. I still need to do a teensy bit of sanding here and there though. After that i also made a chaos pendant but knowing my reliability i managed to misplace that already!

No worries with the shoutout, credit where credit is due right! Currently the knight is the same as what you see in on the thread, i havent really progressed on it. I hope to base it some time this weekend and at the least undercoat it. Because i need to undercoat a LOT of things so that i can paint them during the harsh Aussie winter, (we get pretty cold too ) and undercoating is awful when it's frickin freezing outside.
And in regards to ork conversions....They're DAMN FUN!!!

Next time i do some ork stuff i think i'll continue the battle fortress then
The apothecary's backpack is using the scrawny arms from the dark eldar talos kit as a sort of biological servo arm type doodad to assist him in his experiments....i mean...assistance of injured comrades.
And in regards to the Khorne icons...Yes and no, i normally file them off to make room for hazard stripes but sometimes i keep them because a few of my squads will be marked by certain gods

I've also revived another old project of mine - my death guard, to fight alongside my iron warriors.
I'm converting Blight Drones out of CD Plague Drones (something i've been wanting to do for a very very long time) , with space marine stalker autocannons as the guns and the 3d printing continues as i'm currently in the process of printing some rotors for the little fellas.
To go with my Blight Drones i'm also heavily kitbashing a few Plague Marine squads from chaos possessed, chaos tacticals, chaos raptors and even stormvermin and 30k legion destroyers. They'll be run in small squads of 6, toting special weapons and rhinos. My death guard list will be largely centered around daemon engines and mechanised warfare. But i've still to actually write a list for it
This plague marine squad is planned to run -
6 x Plague Marines
2 x Meltaguns or Plasma guns
champ with combigun and powerfist (Or meltabomb, not sure yet)
Rhino (not sure about upgrades yet)
Hopefully next update i can hopefully have the blight drones in a proper, presentable state as well as the plague marines. In addition, start painting the dreadnought wreck. Because it looks like it'd be wonderful to work on!

Howdy folks, sorry for being quiet again for a little bit. But i've got a new phone with a splendid camera and so this thread will be continuously updated again as it's going to be far easier to take photos and copy them to my computer now! Because my previous phone's camera was really bad and i had to use my big camera to take pictures and it was a pain in the butt to copy them and compress the file size blah blah blah
Anyhow, I managed to finish my army list for my death guard

I dumped the heldrake in favour of extra firepower in the shape of the hell talon. And also gives me a reason to finish off that hell talon conversion i started AAAAAAGES ago and still haven't finished
In addition I completed a few plague marines a little while ago. Originally i was going to give them respirator type helmets, but due to not being able to find any in bulk, and also because the good ones on the internet (such as maxmini or kromlech) were awesome but not standardised enough for me. So i decided to do something different and give them chaos warrior heads! yay!
I also managed to do some drilling work on the Blight Drone for the flying stand, and attach the gun which was a real pain to do. But it was still a blast making it. Now i've just got to attach the rotors i've 3d printed, give it some eyes and then mount whatever little doodads i need to finish it off!
Next update i'll show you my cultist conversions! Hope to see you there

An army shot will be on the agenda, hopefully once i actually get everything sorted because my collection is kinda chaotic right now. (heh) But that's something i'd love to look into soon!
Now i recall last update i said something about cultist conversions for my Death guard list, I'm really happy with how they've turned out, and they're made from a combination of Imerpail guard, Empire archers/free company, Skitarii and DV cultists.
I tried to retain the trencher theme of the iron warriors with the great coats, and took heavy inspiration from the "chaos brethren" from mordheim as well for the hoods and well..cultist-ish look
In additon i also managed to finally get my first two melta squads of IW rebased into the newer 32mm or whatever it is, so now i can add some basing detail and then finally get to painting them! Yay!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hopefully the plan for the next few updates will be something to the effect of -
- Getting a proper area set up for taking pictures of my little plastic dudes
- Hopefully getting some stuff painted
- Finishing off as much stuff as possible
I'll keep you all updated!

And Suddenly! An update appeared out of nowhere!
So boy do i have quite the haul...
Aside from the usual "getting like 4 million marines and stuff re based and prepared for the paint" montage I've got going behind the scenes, My dark mechanicus is making great leaps and i have so many wonderful conversions to show! Oh and a "Western Front" themed gameboard underway, yay!
Gather round ye' fellow children of the dark gods and gaze upon the newest additions to the ranks of the 10th Grand Company!
So i may have spent a bit of money over the past few weeks... There is also meant to be a skaven warlord and imperial sector box there too but they kinda decided to disappear into the bloody aether instead of join the photo. The little bags have chaos marine backpacks inside them, because it wouldnt be an order from Games Workshop if i didnt buy like 20 of the damn things each time.
Oh and a corpse cart too, for my death guard pet project I've got going on the side.
Woo, more freakin re based marines. Still got loads more to take pictures of.. i'll try to do a big marine themed update soon as an excuse to get them all done.
Now onto those more recent darkmech conversions..
So we have some kataphron destroyers, because i've always LOVED THESE MODELS SO MUCH..Ahem, and they are currently sporting the wrack heads/masks for a more barbaric/ Iron Warrior/ Chaos-y type of feel, originally i was going to use chaos warrior helmets but they didnt really satisfy me..
They also have ork pauldrons to represent armour plates hastily constructed by their cultist/marine comrades, between fights in an attempt to reinforce their protection as quick as possible.
As well as the fact that i'm taking that whole western front type theme and turning up by 40,000 notches (get it?) which is why they also have mud based on them as well as little bits of stowage i intend to add as well, making them double as pack mules in a way.
I'm still undecided on whether to give them Plasma Calivers or Heavy Grav cannons though.
Anyways, got some Sicarian Ruststalkers too!
And the Princeps..
Like the kataphrons, these guys have been converted using the gladiatorial style masks, as well as the spine mutations from the Wrack Kit.
This idea mostly spurred not only from the fact that they now look like hideously deformed monsters but also from a little bit of background fluff too. I recall reading somewhere that Skitarii/ Ruststalker backpacks house all kinds of equipment and life support measures on them.
I looked at the wracks and saw a similar thing going, with all the stimulant injectors, IV bags and stuff and all the wiring, and i was like "Hey! That would look great to not only represent horrific experimentation upon my subjects but also their life support systems"
That and i want my dark mechanicus to look not only horrific but also keep some of the badass traits of the loyalist admech, asi do really really...REAAAALLY love the models in all fairness.
Which is where the princeps comes in, I've used the dataspike to represent some kind of angry tail of poking death and also given him a literal scissorhand, also from the wrack kit. I now can't decide on giving him a transonic razor in his right arm like with his comrades, or some other kind of gruesome device to butcher the opponents of the 10th Grand Company with.
And lastly, I've also started working on a gameboard about half an hour ago.
As I've said a few times throughout the thread and you may have noticed yourself (possibly due to luggage carrying dreadnoughts, german style cultists, duckboard reinforced rhinos and loads of muddy style bases) that i'm going for a very heavy western front theme, as i feel it fits snugly into the aesthetic of the Iron Warriors.
The gameboard is essentially a huge frickin piece of wood with sand and rocks PVA glued to it..and it'll be painted dark brown. Big whoop.
The plan is to have some tracks dug into the mud from all the vehicles passing through, with some craters and stuff and loads of uneven terrain. Mostly because it's basically just a bombed out wasteland and i still need room for all the terrain i have to put on the board too!
Regardless, i'm really really pleased with the results, I only stopped to take pictures because im out of PVA glue, and running out of sand VERY fast. But don't worry i promise it'll be cool when it's done!
Next update will be that fabled army shot, because i wanna show this army in it's full size. Heck, sometimes i forget i even have certain models sometimes, also gotta do that army shot for JeffyP!
And I'll also deploy a glorious wall of fluffy text explaining the motives of the 10th Grand Company, their origins and their organisation/recruiting methods, to set the scene
EDIT: Yeah i know, i gotta work on that camera flash. It's bugging me too, but it's bed time right now so i wasn't gonna fuss too much

Cheers buddy! I'm really happy with them!
I've been working on the gameboard on and off all day today, mostly because i ran out of sand and gravel like 3 times and kept having to get more, as well as PVA and spray adhesive. In addition to fiddling with the chaos marines, adding any last details and stuff as well as preparing ideas for the rest of the dark mechanicus.

Hot damn i've really got to stop neglecting this thread!
Just finished my finals so woot woot nothing to stop me now!
So this update was said to contain the fluff of the army as well an army shot, so let's get to it shall we?
The 10th Grand Company is currently led by Warpsmith Ostragoth Maternus in the late 41st Millenium, he started his service to the IVth legion back in the horus heresy as an insignificant legionnaire. His descent into madness was first sparked during his participation in the purging of Olympia, wherein the Iron Warriors had to slaughter the population of their homeworld due to the uprising. Much like many of the other legionnaires he fought with at the time as well as Perturabo himself, he was traumatised and guilt ridden by his actions in destroying his homeworld and so this fueled his initial hatred towards the Imperium and millennia of self loathing to come.
When the heresy broke out shortly after, Ostragoth was more than willing to take up arms against the Imperium and besiege Terra with the rest of his newfound comrades. After the chaos forces retreated back to the Eye of Terror after the felling of Horus, Ostragoth continued to fight alongside the Iron Warriors but under the ever changing banners of rival warsmiths squabbling over shreds of leadership within the demented confines of the Immaterium all the while plotting his revenge to the Imperium.
Over time he begun to dabble with machinery more and so became an apprentice Warpsmith under the supervision of the Warsmith at the time in the 10th Grand Company around M36. When he found the time was right, as well as confident in his abilities to work with Daemon Engines and other technology, he overthrew the Warsmith of the 10th Grand Company with the aid of the Company's Advisor and sorcerer; Lukanfell Riesen.
This success in overthrowing his Warsmith and assuming the position gradually led to Ostragoth developing and extremely egotisical and arrogant attitude as he now possessed an entire grand company at his fingertips in conjunction with several millennia of experience and the ability to maintain the armoury.
In addition, he became extremely obsessed with the technology he maintained and so begun to constantly construct daemon engines as well as hire the services of as many hereteks as he could to ensure the foundries in his territory would be continuously working.
After 3 more Millennia (M39 now) of mucking around in the Immaterium, contructing numerous daemon engines as well as trading with other legions/companies and annoying other warbands for whatever reason, Ostragoth grew tired of the Warp and ventured out with his Grand Company and a megatonne of daemon engines he had constructed over time as well as with Lukanfell. Upon warping out into realspace he found himself in the Eastern fringes of the galaxy and set about plundering backwater planets that no one really cared about and using primitive xenos as "target practice" for the company. However, over time certain worlds would put up a fight, whether it be by wildlife or a percentage of a more advanced race's presence (like Rogue Traders or Explorators) and so the company begun to take casualties that were irreparable due to the remote location they were in of the galaxy and so could barely recruit new legionnaires at all.
This led to Ostragoth colonising a barren world known as "Tarkris" and setting up forges and citadels there for the time being until his manpower issue was solved as well as keeping it as a secret "hideout" if things went south. Lukanfell suggested hiring out Chirurgeons from several of the other rival grand companies and warbands within the Immaterium to assist in recovering gene seed from enemy marines during battle as well as a cloning program he had in mind, which Ostragoth took great interest in. Lukanfell briefly returned to the warp with several chosen bodyguards and set about 'persuading' any and all chirurgeons he knew of into joining the 10 Grand Company, whether it be by bribery, intimidation or merely just good old persuasion.
Upon his return to Ostragoth with several new Chirurgeons for the company, he expanded upon his ideas of cloning the current garrison of the Grand Company in that each Chirurgeon would be assigned a detachment of legionnaires and they would be responsible for their wellbeing, if one of them died, the Chirurgeon would be responsible for harvesting their equipment and anything left of them and cloning a replacement as soon as possible with the aid of the dark powers and cloning vats similar to that of the daemonculaba. The marines lucky enough to be reborn each time after death were naturally the typical rank and file legionnaires, anything else such as havocs or raptors were not deemed as expendable and so were valued more. This led to Havoc squads being assigned apprentice warpsmiths in order to maintain their equipment to the best of their ability and ensure that they are kept alive.
Over time, more and more legionnaires became casualties due to dragged out battles and more marines were required for their pillaging of worlds as they progressively moved inwards in the galactic map. This progressively led to more Chirurgeons being trained and so each squad would now be assigned a Chirurgeon instead of the usual aspiring champion. This was to maintain an upkeep of warriors as best as possible and even to clone more and than initially required during downtime of wars.
Just as legionnaires took many casualties, as did Ostragoth's daemon engines and so he progressively became more obsessed with creating and maintaining daemon engines. Upon the field of battle he will always be seen conducting field repairs of his machines and off the frontlines, continually constructing more which grew into an unhealthy obsession with creation.
That's all I've got so far. I'll expand upon it later naturally but that is the general premise I've got so far.
I'm going to upload the army shot in a few hours so that it's not just a massive block of unreadable text mushed with pictures
