Thanks!

As above, who among the Dakka community is looking forward to Age of Sigmar and why?

Yeah I'll be buying it, plus 5 copies of wd to get a unit for £12. Looking forward to something new, having another option to play, new aesthetics, and painting that big ass lizard!

Yep, I'm in! The models are stunning which is the most important thing to me, and I genuinely believe the rules can be made into something decent. Not decent enough to be the Best Game Ever (and not just because LotR is basically that anyway! ) but decent enough that I can have fun with them, which it all I ask.

I'm leaning towards picking it up. Hoping to trade with someone to double up the Sigmar faction.

Originally, I was going to pass because of the mass of Fantasy stuff that I never get to.

But the models just look too good to say no to.

@JamesY -- I thought of doing the same thing; the problem is, the price of AoS for the models is so good, that doesn't it just make sense to just put the money towards another AoS?

I am looking forward to hearing some reviews about gameplay and seeing how it works out for model collecting and 'game size'.

I honestly am looking forward to Age of Sigmar. Reasons:

1. I enjoy small-scale/skirmish games, and I especially felt a Fantasy version would have a narrative-driven RPG vibe.

2. I have friends in my RPG group that are interested, that like my miniatures, but just can't commit to large-scale armies. Finally, we have an entry-level product to invite them into the Hobby with. This is long overdue.

3. One of my 40k/RPG friends bought the End Times, told me the stories, and they were cool. This is like the sequel to that.

I've already kind of picked out an army based on the End Times fluff: the Undead. They were like a surprising heel-face turn. I'm just waiting for some rules to land to confirm my decision, as I'm genuinely confused about how they could have a game balanced by model count. Even if they are underpowered, I'm actually kind of okay with it as long as it's not by a huge margin, as I just love the Forge A Narrative elements.

I'll have the models a week earlier, so it's more about having a unit painted for the launch than anything. Plus I think they look great fun to paint, very quick and easy.

If the rules are free as is rumoured, I'll pick up a copy and proxy in some stuff to try it.
The box set however, I dont really play Chaos and the Sigmarites Im not gone on so likely wont get the box set.
I still believe this is more akin to an assault on black reach pure starter set with more rules and such to follow - which does interest me depending on how they flesh it out.

I was at whw yesterday chatting with some of my mates who paint the exhibition hall battle boards. They didn't give anything away, but apparently the AoS box models are nothing compared to what's coming. Can't wait to see how it pans out

Like I said, they didn't give anything away, but all races are staying, so I assume so, although probably under a new, legally protectable name...

I'm quite intrigued by the new, slimmed down ruleset. For years now there has been clamour for a less bloated set of rules and this may be just the thing I've been looking for when it comes to Fantasy skirmish.

I'll be getting it to paint up and sell on as I really like the minis (it's kinda what I do now) but I'll try and get a game in and may end up picking up a copy for myself at some point depending on how I find it.

I'll be downloading the free rules and seeing how to adapt my skinks and goblins. On the fence with the big boxed set though, since I don't really see me having the time or cash to start a chaos army or SigMarine army, though I do like the models. I'll check it out this weekend and will probably buy it anyway since I can't resist new plastic. I do find the lack of a balance / force organization / army building mechanic a bit unsettling, but I know after a couple of months the community will get ahold of it and fix whatever's broke, so it'll all come out in the wash.

I plan on purchasing the starter set, i have always been mega interested in the fantasy models, setting, and depth. i feel certain enough that this starter box and the rumours around it are simply for the starter box and not the full launch. i expect a balanced system to emerge later on, and that the starter has balanced scenarios or the models on each faction are simply balanced against eachother making the points values unnecessary.

I think the new models look fantastic. ive been wanting to start a second 40k army after two years into the hobby, yet this seems to be a more useful and fun way to spend my money. the value in terms of models in the box looks great too. the things that kept me from fantasy before were prohibitive startup price, huge model count, and ranked up armies. im looking forward to giving it a go.

judging by the 190 page and counting thread of boundless negativity that exists based on the rumours of this release.. us purchasers may not have many people to play with, however. hopefully all of that is just unfounded, premature butthurt.

edit: not to mention having roughly 7500 pts of daemons on round bases has now reduced my buy in and work-to-play to almost nothing.

There's no point as the rules are being released for free and I don't collect either army in the box. So even if I thought it was the best game ever I still would not have a reason to buy it.

I got told a very nice analogy of 9th ed yesterday. Essentially, the core rules are like a engine. Future releases will allow us to build whatever car around that engine we want. So if small skirmishes are your thing, you can use it for that. If you want massive battles, you can use it for that too. Not my words, but apparently it sums up what's coming very aptly.

Still giving the box set some thinking-over, will probably wait till a review of the game overall comes around before I make a final decision.

I think thats a great move by GW. if they introduce balance and scalability in future releases, i can see alot of the people crying bloody murder over the alleged corpse of WFB buying in and forgetting how much rage they had before they knew anything concrete about the system. perhaps this new world and new system can really breathe some life into high fantasy warhammer.

the fact that i will be giving them my money, rather than just plastering a blood angels force together from ebay, is enough for me to think that this is a good move, at least in the short term.

if the rumours of scalability and depth in future releases are false however, i will be a depressed, let-down, sad panda. but ill still probably keep the starter box, paint the minis, and toss around some dice with the kids.

I'll be interested in trying the game itself, but the starter set does not interest me. Don't want the Chaos, and while the Sigmarites look cool, I already have a Basilean army from Mantic on the way to me, as well as a huge collection of WFB Dwarves. And if I really get into it with a Dwarf army, I plan to pick up Scibor Dwarves.

I agree with that, what I meant was they look a bit daunting for me and my painting style. The Lord especially is amazing, and the once-were-Marauders look great too.

I'm pretty excited about the Sigmarite minis, so I will definitely be buying them either as part of the box, or in a bit sale. However, I'm going to wait at least until January since my budget for this year is allocated.

(Please let me know if this is some super limited edition and I won't be able to put this off. I guess I'll gnash my teeth or something in that case.)

I'm definitley going to get the chaos part. I'm hoping to find someone to split the box with, as the simarites aren't really my thing.

That being said, I want the models to convert to 40k. I think I'm going to stick with 8th ed for fantasy unless the rules just blow me away this Saturday (my FLGS is running a demo).

What about limited edition stuff?

Free Sigmarite warrior with the White Dwarf

Pre-orders are 4th July, general release is 11th July- Don't think there's been any mention of Ltd edition stuff. Though there are some snazzy AoS army cases coming out which may be ltd edition?

Waiting to read initial reviews and feedback on the release, hopefully see some games in action, as I do for all games.

Nice miniatures are a bonus but if the rules are poor (and considering there are so many brilliantly written games coming out these days) there is no point in a purchase ending up as a dust collector after three games.

If you buy the boxed set it is the models and the fluff book you are buying. The rules are only 4pp and are available free as PDF downloads from GW.

If you like the models, buy the set. The rules are a trivial add-on.

With Fantasy, I'm primarily a hobbyist - not so much a gamer mainly because my buddies prefer the ease of small 40K games.

Now with AoS, the rules seem to be easier than anything we've played before, and it appeals to the painter in me with gorgeous models . . .

May grab more than one, but yeah definitely buying this.

I really like the fact that, currently at least, there are no LE versions so I can take my time and not rush into a standard impulse purchase. It's still a firm yes but it may be a while.

I'll check out the rules and warscrolls for my Ogr... sorry, Ogors tomorrow and see how we go. From the brief bit of fluff I read I'm loving the direction the background is taking. Less "why bother chaos is unbeatable?" and more "Orders' great crusade!"

No.

But I do like the aesthetics (even the sigmarines...especially the sigmarines...fly hawkmen!)....i think the concept sounds intriguing. I think it will make a great intro game for people and can help get the next generation in..if costs are affordable....

I can imagine geedubz adding a online feature with battles and content you have to subscribe to. It's what I would do...gut feeling.

I won't be buying because I like mass fantasy battle ranked up and when I first play KoW I knew it was better than any iteration of warhammer for me PERSONALLY! I really feel for the warhammer beys whose whole hobby and passion has clearly taken a hit. It sucks and I mean that honestly.
But I think AoS should be judged on its merits despite the process of being born killing it's mother francise in childbirth.

Yep, I'll be into this. This looks so good to me.

Will be buying quite a few of the new figs too.

What strikes me is that with the rules I have seen so far there is very little obstacle to me picking up the coolest minis from any army. The pick and mix approach isn't such a problem cos I don't need army books or to balance my army out with particular troop type ratios. So long as I have a handful of other dudes from the same faction its game on.

Having painted the starter set, I can say that I will be getting one or two boxes for myself just for the models. Using the new spray and paints on the Eternals makes them look as good as they are fun to paint.

If I don't end up playing AoS, I'll start a Custodes army with them.

You can get any size base you need from Litko Aero.

I like that rounded beveled edge for the warmachine bases, and plastic. I'll probably go with Proxie bases since they have tons of different sizes from 15mm up to 120, just no big oval ones but they have big circles that should be just as good. Plus Ken is good people.

I have preordered a copy at GW Stockholm. I do like the Ethernals as they will be perfect after headswaps with hooded DA-heads as not-Diablo III Angels...

Secondly, My lil' Bro and my stepchildren are more likely to play with these rules than the forever-flipping-in-the-BRB WHFB rules.

Needs only some points/restrictions or a campaign and we will game as never before!

I think you missed the point in this thread's title. He was asking who's buying it as in... who is interested in it. Not whether you are interested or not.

I myself will be buying it - the rules looks pretty nice for a quick, furious game (especially when the sides are more or less balanced like in starter set rather than making up armies by ourselves) that I can enjoy with a friend. Also those khornate miniatures are just simply fantastic while the sigmarines are growing on me after I saw their bowmen.

Worth noting - they're almost the size of an ogre - pretty much true scale space marines.

I'm going to pick up the box and all. Not to crazy about AoS and the loss of WHFB, but I'm not big on big drastic changes like this. Still, it looks interesting and sound interesting once things are ironed out.

I've been pretty upset with the whole concept of AoS, but on the positive side, I am hoping that they come out with some cool new elves miniatures. I'd definitely buy some of those just to paint up and maybe add to the mixed model army I'll be playing Kings of War with (I'm not trying to be snarky with that last sentence).

I was more into the Chaos in concept, but after seeing the pics the Sigmar bots are the faction of choice. The Chaos models look like something I could warm-up to over time, with some replacement heads sooner.

The main thing that's poking me is the 'All old models are going away'. I can't believe GW would trash the Mortis Engine, Nagash and all the recent kits that they just popped out. I have a feeling they'll hang around another 5-10 years. I'm thrilled at the prospect GW will trash most of the older infantry type kits, b/c most of the older ones look terrible or just bland to me. The orc boys are one of the worst kits, shoulda dumped them in a pit long ago.

Chaos warriors and ogres all look the same to me, bland and repeating with minor details between the models. Their art looks better than the bland models, coupled with the lack of Chosen and detail options between the Dark Gods. So while I'm currently unimpressed with the Chaos, I'm expecting the Nurgle and Tzeentch to wow me later.

I'm one of the likes models and doesn't really care about the game people. I prefer D&D

I'm not buying anything yet, but I do enjoy the game.

In the short term, I'm not buying any fantasy models from GW unless I can use them in KoW also. I will use my existing models to enjoy the AoS ruleset to play games with my friends.

In the long term, I'm waiting for GW to update the Aelfs, Seraphon, Skaven, or Red Slayers (if they are chaos dwarves). I will likely start a small force of whichever of those comes first.

I pre-ordered the box today. I'm simply in love with the models.

I don't know about the game yet, at least in its current form. I am looking forward to scenarios released by GW and other people online (maybe even myself) to help with some balance and structure. I think that will help with some of the balance issues people are having and make the game much more enjoyable!

Already play KOW, and have a bunch for 40k but never play because I hate the rules and i cant remember all of them. Pre ordered AOS as the rules look amazing. Just like KOW, a game where I can use awesome minis and not have to memorize a 150 page rulebook. A game where I can bring it to any of my friends and teach them in 5 minutes and we are having fun. A lot of people hate the silly rules, but I love them. These "games" are meant to be fun, and I think with some beer and good food, we will have plenty of great gaming hours in my future with this game.

After seeing us play a game (with old random Fantasy models), my wife is considering buying a box, just for the Sigmarite half. She's only quasi interested in the game, but likes the models in WD75 (and my painted Stormcast, hehe) a lot.

She was really funny, asked me if I really wanted the Sigmarites in my box -- she could take those, and I could have the Chaos models. Yeaaaahhhhh, that makes sense.

Of course, what this ACTUALLY means is that I'll end up buying two boxes and giving her the Sigmarite half of one box, LOL.

If you go by Wounds limit per scroll, you'd have to categorize Scrolls - limiting all scrolls to e.g. 20 wounds would be pointless as some units profit from 30+ wounds in it.

So e.g. have three categories, small, medium, Horde or...Troop, Regiment, Horde (haha!) and change the wound limit according to said category, sth. like:

Troop: 1-10
Regiment: 10-20
Horde: 30-50

I don't like this, because that contradicts the very idea of their own pre-set formations in a way - the Empire one requires you to get 3 units of state troops and it is impossible with that suggested rule, because the warscroll can duplicate once, making it two units of state troops. It would be different if they counted as separate scrolls (i.e. - two units of halberdiers and two units of swordsmen being legal), but now they don't - they're all rolled into one scroll for (in)convenience.

Now I know that you are free to adjust these rules as you see fit, I can read, thanks, but what I am kinda gripping about is that they seem to not think about what they write. I think it was same with Beastmen formation and gors and I believe that upping the limit to 3 for infantry wouldn't really hurt them and it wouldn't make them contradict themselves. Especially that (as I said in other threads) those formations seem to be pretty balanced and look like they'd make great battleforce contents for instant tournament-ready armies like the Skirmishes for By Fire and Sword game.

I did the same trick with the White Dwarves and am giving the magazine to friends(keeping the figs, though)who haven't played fantasy in a while. They are planning on giving it a go again and are excited to see the direction the game is taking. Most are old Chronopia players and they like how the HtH phase mirrors that game.

General on a Griffon leading a demigryph army sounds fabulous! Hope we'll get demigryph mount for generals. You can see a young griffon mini on the photos of Sigmarines (next to the lord on foot), so griffons are still around in the new world, so it's not improbable.

Is that the release period for AoS? Six weeks?

I am really excited about AOS.

For those worried about the lack of strategy I wouldn't worry to much...List building and synergy is incredibly important now.

With units providing benefits to other units; army construction and proper deployment is very important.

The lack of points and the BS about the screaming bell combo are coming from a childish place -- I think the true most important rule is don't be such a dick

I would have to agree with you on several of your points. I had initially been upset by the change in list building but after putting a few together I've found it entertaining. And as for the matter of people bringing lists to smash the competition at the expense of fun, that has been the case long before AoS. Even recently the release of Eldar had people in a frenzy about how they would simply table every opponent foolish enough to stand against them. Many, claiming to be leaving the game behind because GW doesn't care about balance, doesn't care about the tournament player, etc.. It's the same claims with every new release, and yet the game goes on. The community usually adopts checks and balances that brings people in line, or they learn to counter supposed unbalanced threats. There is great potential for abuse in AoS, but not playing with dicks will go a long way towards enjoying a game. I advise people to give it a chance as I did, even though I was very pessimistic...the rules are free, you have nothing to lose (except perhaps your negative perception of the game). If you don't like it, as I'm sure some will not, there's always 8th. If the game is truly as bad as you think it is, there shouldn't be a shortage of people to play with.

@Gridge: To add to that, the type of bases you have no longer matter either, so it's not like everyone will have to rebase everything.

I think that he is speculating that by the end of six weeks, we'll have seen releases for more factions and thus have an idea of what to expect from the game beyond the starter set.

Pretty sure Empire are going the way of the dodo. So far all the promo pictures of AoS have only showed Empire models with the CELESTIAL keyword. Not sure the new "Free People" faction is going to have organised soldiers like state troopers and Knights...

I'm an Empire player so this makes me sad.

October. The first lot of AoS releases is meant to run too then 40k will get some releases before it changes to a mix of the two. Supposedly anyway

Letting the dust settle a bit, I do want to play, I'm on Twitter with hundreds of gamers playing it, leaving posts etc etc. I've heard nothing but positive! I was, repeat was in disgust when I heard a rumor about maybe losing the chance to play my current armies in the new system, and stoked to hear they're not abandoned.
Most likely I'll get the rules after they are out alone, heard a rule book is coming out soon...
So yes I'm going to get it, hopefully without the new miniatures just my current armies.

There is no rulebook. The only books coming out will be campaign/sourcebooks. Which may or may not include the 4 page rules that are out already

Nothing about AoS so far has me interested in actually spending additional money on the product.

However, I'm willing to look at whatever they release going forward and could potentially change my mind.

Just read some of the really stupid rules such as this High Elf rule for the Dragon Host : "Ancient Dignity: Dragons are ancient and prideful creatures, and the Elves that
ride them are no less haughty, but from such nobility and dignity stems an inner
strength. If, during your entire hero phase, you can maintain a dignified (even
arrogant) composure and not smile, smirk or laugh regardless of your opponent’s
antics, you may re-roll all hit rolls of 1 made for models in a Dragon Host until
your next hero phase."

Ther is also an Empire model that gives you buffs if you have a bigger mustache than your opponent and at any time if you kneel whilst using settra, you lose instantly.

Here in the UK AoS is out tomorrow. I'll be buying it, after having had a great time playing a demo earlier this afternoon. Though I don't know if it's truly for 'everyone' who likes wargaming, and actually spending the hard-earned dosh on this thing does seem a tad risky, even if it is pretty good value (within the hobby, that is) for the models. Thing is, I'm planning a Khorne Daemonkin army, so if AoS doesn't work out, I'll be doing some reconditioning.

On the whole, though, I think its pretty exciting to start something like this, with such promise, at its inception.

I quite like the idea of these rules, if not the application of these particular ones, but only because it's now possible to picture the cheesemongers having to go further than ever before for the best buffs.

Not until I see what the new range looks like, im all for making all models larger as long as they shift the aesthetic. As mentioned they seem to be pushing the Diablo look which is fine if the other armies follow, I don't want just round based fantasy because what would have been the point in killing fantasy for it.

If the models look like:

Tomb king leader:
Spoiler:

demon lord:
Spoiler:

Ork lord:
Spoiler:

I'd give it a shot.
