Guard Regiment: The Death Korps of Krieg (Because they are my favorite Imperial Guard unit.)

1. Grenadier with flamethrower

2. Normal Krieg Infantryman with flamethrower (I know it's not that different from the first but I like setting stuff on fire!)

3. Heavy Weapons Operator with Autocannon

Well irregardless of the job, I'd probably want to be Vostroyan simply because I would get quality training to keep me alive, quality gear, and actually not get abandoned to die to some gribbly space monster if things go sour like most other Regiments.

I would want to be in a Militarum Tempestus regiment. Preferably the 54th Psian Jackals.
They have sick punisher-like armor.
Also I would have some better training, armor, and weapons.

Outside of that, it wouldn't really matter, as long as I have my trusty Imperial Infantryman's Handbook.

Savlar Chem Dog with a missile launcher. Nothing like tripping balls on hallucinogens and blowing up gak with rockets.

Plus their gear can be excellent, since they keep whatever they find on the battlefield. Archeotech pistol? Spyer suit? Some noble colonels master crafted heirloom power sword? Don't mind if I do.

Downside: everyone else in your regiment is pretty much a sociopathic serial killer on the strongest aggression enhancing drugs mankind can synthesize. I'm guessing they don't spend a lot of time in garrison.

I'd want to be Hawky's commissar.

Tanith, and then not tell anybody my name, so I can't be killed off in a poignant moment. Also because they're pretty much guaranteed not to suffer a regimental wipe as it'll end the series early. Them's better odds than most.

That or a PDF commissar, so I can actually get to know people rather than seeing them die.

I would go for Elysian.

Either Valkyrie pilot, gunner or aircrew.

only the removing of eye-lids would be a bit icky, but I can deal with everything else.

I would like to be in a Vostroyan regiment. My fancy uniform and especially my huge fur hat will be the envy of all others. The nicest position is probably as part of the honour guard of some important marshal or general. Relatively safe, you get a whole lot of respect and privileges and unlike the commander himself you won't be held responsible if the campaign fails.

Vostroyans, I get awesome equipment and bionics.

Ideally, I'd be a enginseer attached to a vostroyan regiment.

I was a treadhead for most of three decades, so MOS 19k or the Imperial equivalent. Almost any tank, from a straight Leman Russ to a freaking Baneblade. NOT a Basilisk crewman, I'm no redleg (artilleryman). NOT a Hellhound/Devildog/Banewolf crewman either... I respect those maniacs, but I'm a heavy armor kinda guy. Clank clank, I'm a tank.

Maybe a wild-eyed, frothing Imperial preacher/missionary with a honking huge Eviscerator. And/or maybe a flamer... in Necromunda Eviscerators had one-shot flamer auxiliary weapons, after all. Spouting pious rage seems like second nature for any Interweb denizen, including myself, so I say go for it! Besides, in real life I tend to be the devout (but not necessarily good/kind, alas) type. I promise to keep trying though.

I could see being a Commissar as well. Always have the best schooling, the best gear and a metric ton of fear/respect, unless you get assigned to a Catachan regiment or something. The big hat and long greatcoat and loads of gold braid are nice perks.

Don't need to claim 'hero' or anything like that. Real heroes are just guys that do what needs to be done when the chips are down, and who don't poop their britches until afterwards.

Regiment? Don't really care. In the Grimdark there is only war. Even if you're a REMF (Rear Echelon Mother F***er) war is gonna find you sooner or later, and you'd better fething well be ready when it does. Your buddies will be depending on you to hold the line, soldier, and I'll have my eye on you. Take one step back and I'll give you the Emperor's Mercy with ol'Betsy here <slaps the butt of his bolt pistol>...

...or I'll just split you fishwise with my Eviscerator as an object lesson to other would be cowards, and burn your heretical corpse to ash for good measure. Now get in there and fight, damn you!!!

MOS: Senior Warrant Officer.
Reason: Power, less responsibility, more time to enjoy the world I'm stationed on.

2.
Unit: Artillery Regiment
MOS: Battery CO.
Reason: Away from the front-lines, easy organization.

3.
Unit: Logistical Regiment
MOS: Junior NCO.
Reason: My RL MOS.

I can only assume the mighty shamming power of the Chief Warrants would transcend from our universe into the realm of 40K!

But I would prefer to be an officer in a Regiment that values the use of mechanized forces such as the Steel Legion. Why walk when you can drive?

Jobs in order of preference:

1. 19C: Cavalry Officer (leading Salamander Scouts ideally)
2. 19B: Armor Officer (Leman Russ or Baneblade)
3. 27A: JAG attorney (Someone has to process the summary execution paperwork)

Well generally speaking while you have the horrors of the 40k universe, the vast majority of guard generally speaking are fighting other humans who are non chaos. Still why would anyone want to be in the guard is beyond me....

Anyway I would like to be in some PDF on a backwater agri world. In a tank preferably....

Being the best Guardsman in the galaxy means you still get smoked in the 40k world of Demon Princes & Warlord Titans. But the luckiest?

Definately a tank commander, preferrably done a whole lot of good deeds in past battles so I can relax in an off-world somewhere not likely to be attacked.

But, If you prove yourself to be a worthy tanker in the guard you'll probably would find yourself leading a suicidal attack somewhere I figure, but best chances of survival I still see being in a tank, while you get the chance to actually kill something instead of being a rank and file trooper with a lasgun.

You're from a merchant world, so everything's pretty cushy back home. You get to play with aircraft, which is just ace. And you don't end up on the sharp end of the deployment, which is even better.

I'd say Terrax Guard, those lads ALL wear carapace armour.

And no way I'd want to be on the front lines.. maybe as an infantry man assigned to a Platoon who's job is to protect the basilisks that are shelling the enemy from two planets away

Not guard, but a lightning pilot. Preferably PDF so I can be a fighter pilot that sees their family.

Very very few i wager leave the guard retired, and they are probably latent pskers with an uncanny ability to avoid danger.

I think I'd be in one of my world's assault companies, especially the airborne ones. These guys are shock troopers clad in Carapace armors and heavy visors and are specialized in the destruction of hard targets. I'd like to see what it's like to jump from a Valkyrie and use a meltagun on something .

If I were to choose something more classical, I'd say an Inquisitorial Stormtrooper, or a Vutlure pilot.

Many of those who live and die in the Guard do believe they are giving their life for a worthy cause - especially those defending civilians during say a Ork or Tryanid invasion.

One of the "perks" of being a successful regiment is that you get to colonise your own planet and depending on your rank get to rule or at least be important on it - similar to how the Romans resettled their troops on captured lands and therefore had both a inbuilt militia and loyal subjects likely to be breeding future generations of loyal soliders..

My new choice would be that unit that always seems to get stuck in reserves.
You know those deep strikers who always seem to roll "Delayed" on their mishap table.

Guard are not unlike the Roman legions. If you live long enough, they will have you retire and settle a world. Is that a guarantee, No. But there is a chance.

Those fighting on their own home planets are PDF, not the Guard.

Even then, you're talking about worlds with over oppressive edicts that are quite counter to the ideals of self-evident things, or self-government.

I say to hell with those oppressive worlds, their judgement is warranted. I could argue the matter of innovation over imperial might as the alternative they could have attempted - that's definitely worth fighting over.

I sure would not want to attempt fixing a tyranid invaded world. Chaos would be pretty bad too. As a matter of fact, just about any warzone in the Imperium would be worse than depictions of the worst scenes of WW1 + WW2 - bodies all over, mushroom/radioactive clouded skies (and all that's inferring), stinky, sticky, wet, burning, perpetual shelling at warhammer sized magnitude, uber random death all over. No sir, no matter what happy, successful regiment you happen to be in, that simply would suck. What the warhammer world is renown for, that glory, especially for guard, is not going to last long. Heck, that glory is for what ultimate purpose? The survival of humanity or the survival of tyranny?

If you happen to retire, then congrats, if you're an officer, you'll most likely die by 50 due to radioactive, biological, and/or chemical exposure. If you're enlisted, I wouldn't count on you retiring. It may happen somewhere in the galaxy, but I doubt any officer in the IG is going to let that level of saltiness ever leave.

If I had to choose an organization to be with - that was somewhat a military - it would be with a rogue trader. At least then you're getting actual adventure kicks in and decent treatment. There's also the advantage of being nomadic, which in 40k terms, is perhaps the more survivable route.

Yep. It makes the very selfish people in warhammer the most sane perhaps. However, there is something I heard counter to that notion: that there is a belief that your soul resides with the Emperor after death, but I don't recall what book that person was referencing.

I'd like to be stationed in Ultramar. Preferably an Auxilia soldier that's assigned to tend to an important ultramarines captain.

The Tanith First-And-Only had no Scions, they are a Light Infantry Regiment, not part of the Stormtrooper Battalion. That said, several members (field officers, in the main) did wear carapace, but none of them carried hellguns.

Catachan preferably under the command of Straken.

The 34. rear echelon logistics company of the 64. planetary garrison regiment, permanently stationed on some gardenworld relatively close to Terra.

I would promptly defect, then join the Blood Pact where my vehicle would be worshiped as a gift from the gods and I could blast apart any fools who would dare defy me without major consequence (specifically those on my own side).

Me, I think cook in a Catachan regiment. Nobody wants to see the cook get killed because no one knows how to make good tasty Carnosaur Stroganoff.

I would like to be in some PDF on some semi remote Agri-World. If we get attacked then ill probably die fairly quickly but the chance of attack is probably fairly low so I might go an entire lifetime without seeing any real action.

Or if I simply must be human I would choose high command of the strategic campaign. Not getting me on the ground of a planet if I can help it in the IG.

1) Commissar- fight next to well trained veterans instead of bolter rounds to the back of conscript's heads.

2) Valkyrie Hvy Bolter Gunner- All the real world crew chief and aerial gunner's ive meet love their jobs.

3) Officer of the Fleet- Sorry I'm a big BatleFleet Gothic fan, love the imperial navy, I wouldn't mind calling in Lightnings and Thunderbolts to do close air support runs.

2) Heavy Bolter gunner(doesn't matter if part of a heavy weapons team or door gunner on a valk/vend).
