Salute 2016 - POST SHOW REPORTS HERE @ 2016/02/26 12:47:37

Post by: Ruglud

Now the dust has settled and the BIG day is over, let's showcase the best that SALUTE '16 had to offer - an boy was there a lot...

Feel free to post show reports, pictures or blog links in this thread

I didn't manage to get any pictures as I was far too busy spending my money, but saw plenty of folk taking dozens of pictures so am sure there will be many show reports for everyone to drool over...

Original post Spoilered for ease of viewing...
Spoiler:
So... As we're fast approaching the UK s premiere* wargames event, it's about time I kicked off my annual thread to highlight news, offers and general chat regarding SALUTE 2016.

* Other wargames events are available and maybe wonderful, but this is the only one I regularly attend...

Salute on the 16th April 2016 at ExCeL London

Doors open at 10:00 and the show closes at 17:00

Please note that there will be no bring and buy at Salute 2016

Salute Twenty Sixteen, run by The South London Warlords, is the biggest independent one-day wargaming and gaming event in the UK. Our aim is to promote the very best in the hobby. Held at ExCel London, there will be the usual traders, with some from overseas as well, along with plenty of demonstration and participation games to see and take part in.

Buying tickets for Salute 2016

After the success of last year we are continuing with the E-ticketing system. These E-tickets are available now from our website, or our Facebook page.

You can print your ticket at home or simply store it on your mobile device for scanning on the day.

Group discounts are available on advance tickets only using E ticketing. Entrance for under-16s is free with a paying adult.

ONLINE E-TICKET 12 POUNDS (Will still be available on the day)

ON THE DOOR ON THE DAY 20 POUNDS (CASH ONLY)

Once again this year there will be golden tickets placed in random goodie bags for BIG prizes.

We will have a queuing hall again, which, once your E-ticket has been scanned, will allow you faster entrance to the show itself once the doors are open.

Tickets on the day will still be available via the online system (£12.00) or on the door (CASH ONLY) and are £20.00

Please note: We have sold out of trader space for Salute 2016. You can still request to be added to the reserve lists.

Hoping to attend myself this year. Don't have any companies in particular I'm looking forward to, as the one I wanted to see is sadly not attending.

I'm holding off on a KR Multicase order, to see what offer they might come up with.
Anvil and a few others, too.

You mean you're not rushing to the Crooked Dice stand to play on their demo tables, or the Spiral Arm stand to talk to our overlords?

Dunno if demo games will be an option, there may be little kids in tow and I don't want to bore them too much with having fun while they're waiting.

Plus, Crooked Dice has more or less lost its hold over me, their second edition has killed off most of my interest in their game.

The overlords are not forgotten though, I must make a.. contribution to appease them.

Anyone know if anyone will be showing off modern building terrain with proper interiors?

I am having an AWFUL time finding remotely modern buildings or ruins with actual... um... "rooms" modeled as interior, playable, spaces.

I'm hoping for some innovation of this front as it seems the popular, existing mdf stuff doesn't allow for this.

Its that time of the year again then. As a regular I will be there for sure!
Last year I was lucky to meet Yakface and other fellow dakkaites! It was a blast.

Every year I kind of find something remarkable that really surprises me and I hope this year to be no different.

Best wargamming day of the year!

I took my son to the Bovington wargames show a couple of years ago where he sulked the whole time and dragging him round behind me ruined it for me.

I hope I can go this year although I have an exam around that time.

Quite likely

Buildings with interiors is tricky, because of the massive disconnect between the miniature scale (for furniture and the like) and ground scale (for the building dimensions). Sarissa Precision have quite an extensive line of MDF buildings that will do any period from the Victorian age until the present, and Ainsty Casting Co. and Black Cat Bases sell fixtures and furniture. You'll end up with a lot of poky bedsits with no room for miniatures if you're not careful, though.

I can't complain though, the host and his wife will be putting up with me for a week, so little concessions like that will have to be made for the greater good.

Yeah...

I am either going to get myself a complete Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier platoon for Bolt action or a 28mm Bannockburn Scottish army using the new Perry 100YW French box. Plus anything else shiny that catches my eye but will never actually be taken out of its packaging like every year.
I'm probably going to need a wheelbarrow.....

I have been to Wargames shows all over the UK and none of them are anywhere near as good as Salute.

I checked with Jarek and he said they were planning to offer Salute pickups. Hopefully specific details will be announced in the next week or two.

As long as it doesn't end up like when Maelstrom Games were sinking, and someone posted about turning up with 'the boys' to pick up some stock that was owed..

This has been posted as a teaser for this year's mini

The theme for this year is Steam Punk, have absolutely no idea what that could be though (perhaps something Wolsung-related, as MAS have been making quite a push with that game recently?)

It's a generic Victorian lady in some good looking costume porn.

Chances are she'll also have a top hat and goggles.

I'm really looking forward to this now, had a chat with my host earlier today to iron out some questions I had and it's coming together really nicely now.

Really, really looking forward to visiting our overlords and taking pictures where possible of the displays and stands.

As always, the Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy team is going to be visiting Salute, the biggest wargaming show in the U.K. (held in the ExCeL Centre in London on April 16th). We'll be there with a stand (TK02), selling all current and back issues of WS&S, along with all the other products from Karwansaray Publishers (Ancient Warfare, Medieval Warfare and Ancient History Magazine). If you are planning to attend the show, this is a great shopping opportunity, as most of our products will be discounted for the occasion. If you already know what you'd like to buy, you can already order items through our webshop, with a 'pick up at Salute' delivery option at check-out. This will not only save you on shipping, but guarantee you get exactly what you want (due to space concerns, we can't always bring large stocks of every product, so by ordering ahead, you guarantee availability). Even if you aren't in a buying mood (why are you going to Salute exactly?), you are still more than welcome to stop by the booth and chat with our staff: editor Guy Bowers and Christy Beall (of YouTube fame) will both be around to answer your questions.

Blogs, Videos & More!

As always, we've been adding new content to the Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy website. Guy, Jasper and several others have recently added new content. And of course, Christy is always busy with new painting videos!
  • Hammerhead 2016, by Guy Bowers
    AWI updates, by Jasper Oorthuys
WS&S 83 editorial, an apology, by Guy Bowers
Adding structure: Painting a WWII French stable (YouTube), by Christy Beall

  • Once again, we will be attending Salute at ExCel, London, on Saturday, 16th of April.

You can place pre-orders via our webstore by using Salute Show Collection as your shipping method. This will be available until Wednesday, 6th of April.

We will also be carrying a selection of Lancashire Games 15mm figures. If you wish to pre-order any of the Lancashire Games ranges, please contact them.

    Salute 2016 - POST SHOW REPORTS HERE @ 2016/03/25 19:46:49

    Post by: Ruglud

    All Steam Ahead for Salute!

    Spoiler:

So, as mentioned last week, everything here is like 40% regular work, 60% Salute prep, and that percentage will swing slowly worse as we get closer to the date!

On the positive side, this is the time of year we we buy in more products to try out and get new moulds done etc. So for all of you who aren't making it to the show then there's still a lot of good happening that you get to benefit from

You can keep up with events on a more regular basis via our FB page as usual, but there'll be weekly newsletters for the next month, just to keep track of happenings

    Salute Pre-Order Code

As always there's a nice freebie on offer for those of you who order your Salute goodies in advance. You can pick from an extensive list of items (over 40 different codes from across our entire range!)

The code this year is the highly original 'SALUTE2016', and please remember you enter it on the 'confirmation' page, which is the last one before payment details. There's a box at the top of the page.
(Every code we get people writing it in the comments box, other than making me smile, that does absolutely nothing! )

Also if your order is over £60 then the chosen freebie will be dropped into a lil Steampunk-themed goodie bag, if you order over £120 it'll be a double sized bag and so on!

The code wil be active until Tuesday the 12th of April!
We aren't packing any pre-orders after that date, you'll just have to bring your lil scrappy piece of paper with you and we can both struggle to read your writing

FOR ANYONE NOT GOING TO SALUTE!

This is 'not' a free delivery code, this is a 'collection' code. If you use it to try and get free delivery it won't work as we do 'not' see your address. Collection codes blank that for us so we couldn't even accidentally send it to you

Any orders coming through this way will sit in a box until we get back from Salute and then we'll email you to invoice for postage, it's really not a good idea

    Why Pre-Order?

Well, it's a good idea in general, you get a freebie and your particular goodies won't slel out but there are two specific groups of items that you really should consider pre-ordering if going to Salute.

    1. Resin Masters. We do 'not' take Resin Masters to the show* unless they are in a pre-order bag.
Don't turn up looking for an Apprentice Raisa or an Eamond, they won't be there!

    2. Red Box (or other non-HF items). Our retail stock is far more limited than our HF stock. If you don't pre-order and you aren't one of the first to reach us then you could easily find yourself out of luck for that special Njorn Ravager or Aenglish Thug!

*See the one exception in the 'And Finally...' section at the bottom of this newsletter.

    Where are We?

If you've been to Salute at the Excel before, then you know where we are

Once again we are in 'Hasslefree Corner', with the new queueing and entrance system in the next hall (represented by the two arrows on the right) then we are at the back left corner after entering the hall.

Our stand number is TM03 and we are also running a game, ably manned by Matt 'McFonz' Canning, on GM04.

If you click on the map, it'll pop-up larger, in case you can't see the red circle at the bottom left

As with previous years, you may want to make a beeline for us early as...

    Salute Pre-Release Metals

I'm afraid we are at the mercy of our, most excellent, casters as to how many of our April, May and June releases show up in time to be pre-release metals for Salute.

What I can tell you is..

    a) You can't buy them through the site or pre-order them, you have to come see us and pick them up in person,
    b) they will be limited in stock, so first come, first served and...
    c) we will be 'trying' to have the following available...

    Haleth & Ulfred
    Dynamic Lenore
    Iona Starkiller
    Elite Gaia
    Rowen
    The Elite Penn State Five
    The Nola Five

.. and maybe even more! Whatever we can get moulded we will have with us at the show and some of them will not be available through the site until June.

[spoiler]Resin Master - Dynamic Boudi Skyclad

Queen Boudi of the Iceni, seen here naked as the day she was born, but chagring into battle with her trusted spear anyway.
A variant of the original Boudi, based on artwork by Matt Dixon for the Diceni trade show.

This version will be Resin Master only, she will have to be cut up slightly for metal, in which case she will need some additional bangles or strips of cloth to cover the joins. This version is 2 pieces, main body and spear/hands.

    Barbaric Kayden, Resin-Only Slayer

Kayden, slayer-sister of Hayden. Caught in the middle of an overhead chop with her two-handed runesword.

This is a resin-only version, she's a little too... dynamic for metal without cutting her up too much. Variants fit for metal will be coming but this one will only ever be in our production blue/grey resin!

    Resin Master - Eamond Skyclad

Eamond the Badgered, a Celtic Shaman, here practising his magical craft as nature intended!

Another of Kev's finished dollies, it may or may not be modelled on me. And when I say 'modelled', I shall leave the details of that up to you.

    Resin Master - Grond

Grond is a half-Ogre, lost in the HF world after being caught in a rift in the Veil. Arriving through the Veil completely naked he is seen here a couple of years later having 'acquired' pretty much everything an adventurer needs. Armed with an old beat-up sword taken from an Orc and a similarly battered buckler taken from a follower of the Dark Gods.

Already released, we just have a beautiful new paintjob so thought we'd remind you of him

Resin Masters - Individual Nola Five

The Nola Five are now available for individual ordering as Resin Masters. You can find them below the Multi-Pack Listing.
(If they aren't there, try again shiortly, we are literally adding them as this newsletter goes out

Resin Masters - Individual Post-Apoc Gang

The Post-Apoc Gang are now available for individual ordering as Resin Masters. You can find them below the Multi-Pack Listing.

(If they aren't there, try again shiortly, we are literally adding them as this newsletter goes out

    Metal Re-Release - Sana

    Sansa
is a queen of the barbarians of the 'edge', the strip of land bordering the Darklands. Seen here in a full-length bear-skin cloak but sparse armour, as befitting the perpetually changing weather of the Edgelands.

(Rumour has it, the necessary re-mastering of the green may also lead to a variant Sana or two in the near future. Shhh!)

    And Finally...

More metal restocks have arrived, mostly of our older minis but a lot of those are still popular (As I can tell by the constant badgering of when they are coming back! ). So if you were waiting for something then best to have another check, it might be back in.

Only a couple of the minis currently out of stock are just 'out of stock', Alicia and Ceril come to mind, anything else out of stock is 'in the mould queue', which means it needs remoulding and we are working on it.

In the run up to Salute, Resin Masters will be the most last-minute releases. If you want to keep up to date with any of those last minute creations, then keep an eye on Kev's artist page on FB. Anything he gets finished before the show stands a chance of showing up, and in fact these last minute minis will be the 'only' Resin Masters we bring!

We are changing our emails next week, we won't do it before the newsletter informing you of the change so don't worry about that. Our existing ones have been going for so long now that the spam is untenable. 50+ a day, every day, minimum. We are even missing emails from people who use caps or have images as signatures or even if you just looked at it wrong before sending it!

Daredevil season 2 was great, not quite as good as season 1, but still some of the best tv available. Not relevant to minis but we had a day

I hope that's it, that was a long ass day!

    'til next time,

    Arty.

The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare: Blood Eagle, Skirmish Wargaming in The Viking Age!
    Spoiler:

The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare: There are few genres in wargaming that quite get the blood racing like the 9th-10th centuries in northern Europe, the notorious 'Viking Age'. Up until now you could march across those blood-soaked fields with big armies or with little armies, but there were no games that really captured every bone-cracking, skull-splitting, gut-spilling, heroic moment of the period. No game that really allowed you to play Jarl Ragnar Loðbrok and his close companions, Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburgh, the dark Picts, the wild Irish or the stalwart Saxons.

Well good news, Blood Eagle is on its way. Based on the same core rules as In Her Majesty's Name and Daishō, this is a narrative skirmish wargame that is played with 5-15 figures per side on a 1m square board. The core rules have been proven in many thousands of encounters across the world and have been fettled to make them truly suitable for the heroic and grim nature of the period.

Like Daishō, we have set the rules so you can play it as a straight historical game, at a heroic level or go full legendary with monstrous warbands such as the Jotun, Svartalf/Sidhe or Draugr. You will never be stuck playing the same dozen scenarios over and over again because our unique Scenario + Complications + Landscapes system ensures that you will have over three thousand possible game combinations to choose from. These feed into a campaign system that gives you the ability to create and play totally unique sagas of your own.

We have also included the very popular system that allows you to research and then create your own unique warbands. The entire points system is open and there shall be a guiding article on the blog helping you to build it.

There is already a community of over three hundred gamers discussing and preparing for this game on Facebook and we have just launched the supporting blog here. This game shall be launched by us at Salute 2016 under our own imprint - The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare. Like our other book, Daishō, it will be about 96 pages, full colour A4 and cost under £15.

Perry Miniatures: Cape Frontier Warfare Book and Miniature Range Announcement
    Spoiler:

Perry Miniatures: We have teamed up again with the indomitable Col Mike Snook to bring you new resources for an overlooked period in wargaming. Mike has written two books, the first volume of which goes to the printers today and covers Cape Frontier warfare between 1834-53. In this volume he examines in depth the fighting men and type of warfare conducted during the 6th, 7th and 8th Cape Frontier Wars, the Boer-Ndebele War of 1836-7, the Boer –Zulu War of 1838-40, the Anglo-Boer confrontations in the 1840’s and the one day Anglo-Basotho war of 1852.

If you’ve read ‘Go Strong into the Desert’, or any other book written by Mike, you will know how enjoyable, accurate and absorbing his works are. He spent five years as a peacekeeping adviser to the South African military, during which time he trekked the battlefields covered in this and the next volume, and so writes from a personal perspective and with an innate knowledge of the subject. The book is heavily illustrated with contemporary images and 41 colour ‘uniform’ plates by ourselves. ‘Cape Warriors: Volume 1 - Frontier Warfare & Fighting Men in Colonial South Africa 1834-53’ will be released at Salute. If you are going to Salute you could have your copy signed by the man himself on our stand (TE 15). The price will be £25, for the book…not the signature!

We will also be releasing a new range of figures to cover this exciting period, the first releases should be available just before Salute. A small smattering of castings have been painted already, which you can see on our Facebook page. We’ll put more up as we go along. Note thate there also have been mentions of upcoming Zulu's and Boers on Facebook!

Crooked Dice: New Miniatures and Vehicles Previewed - Release Salute
Crooked Dice: These will be available on the day and in the webstore on Monday 18th April. You can view and pre-order all these on the website here. If ordering the new releases through the webstore, please make sure you specify if you plan to collect at Salute OR want it posted out on 18th in the notes field at checkout.

    Spoiler:
Salute 2016 is happening at ExCel in London on Saturday April 16th, and we’ll be there! Graeme and Karl will be getting up early and coming from various far-flung parts of the UK to put on our Crooked show for you guys, ably assisted by our friends and people we pay to be our friends for the day. We’ve heard this year a few other traders will be coming, but don’t bother with any of their stuff, no no no. Instead focus on the following Dice attractions we offer you for only the cost of your sanity… follow the red line on the map below to our trade space at TD12 and game space at GD11.

Playable Games of 7TV 2nd edition

As usual we pack a van full of figures and scenery to let you play our games in real life with other actual people you may or may not know, aided by our gang of trained and mostly harmless referees. This year it’s no different and you can have a go at:
  • Mutants Galore! • High octane action on board a run aground cargo ship

  • Star Wars • Is the force strong in your cast? Find out with our 7TV2 Star Wars rules

  • Scooby Doo • Jinkies! Will Mystery Inc. triumph or will you get grabbed by the ghoulies?

  • Fiddler’s Green • Department X need to make an urgent phone call in this classic game

  • Our refs will teach you the rules if you’re new to it, and keep you right during the game. Each game is quick and won’t eat up a huge amount of your valuable Salute time.

Come and chat to Graeme and Karl, the “brains” behind the whole thing

This year we’ll be on hand to chat to you (we don’t bite!) on subjects as varied as our games, miniatures, beard styling and maintenance and the music of Taylor Swift. We love Salute as we get to meet you all, so if you really want to know who can fit the most jelly babies in their mouth at the same time, come and say hi. We may also be able to tell you of our plans for upcoming miniatures and rules. Although to be fair, Graeme’s memory is terrible, he can barely remember who Karl is most days.

Spend your money on our Stuff

We’re bringing all the 300 miniatures in the collection and plenty of 2nd edition 7TV box sets and accessories. So if you want it, stop by, have a chat with our sales persons, get fed some sweets and buy more than you really need. We’re planning on bringing lots of new releases to Salute (see below), so we’ll have all of those plus all the old favourites.

Everyone who manages to spend £50 or over will get one free Cameraman miniature and profile card as a Salute bonus! It’s a great model and it’s fully useable in 7TV 2nd edition.

    Pre-Order

If you really want to make sure you get it, and save some time on the day you can email us a list of what you want to pick up on the day and we’ll put it aside for you, and you can pay for it then. If you’d rather pay us up front you can order it on the website, we’ll refund your postage paid and again we’ll bring it and you can take it away.

    Spoiler:

Spartan Games Halo: Ground Command Miniature Wargame Announcement

Spartan Games is pleased to announce that the much anticipated Halo: Ground Command tabletop wargame, which is set in the hugely popular Halo Universe, will be shipping in Summer 2016.

Come and check out the Halo: Ground Command game and models which will be on display at the Salute 2016 wargames show in London. And keep an eye out for some exciting news about two of our coolest [and largest] Halo flying models: the UNSC Pelican Dropship and Covenant Phantom Dropship.

The initial release of Halo: Ground Command will see a 2-player Battle Box launched, along with the first upgrade boxes for the UNSC and Covenant.
    Spoiler:
The first iteration of the game is set in the year is 2552, with humanity forced to the brink of extinction by the fanatical alliance of alien races known as the Covenant. These human forces have fallen back to the fortress world of Reach, prepared to give their lives to protect Earth and buy time for a desperate gambit that could change the outcome of the entire war. This last bastion of humanity will see countless bloody engagements take place, and you will now be able to command these ground forces in titanic conflicts.

Halo: Ground Command is a massed battle game using highly detailed 1:100th scale infantry, armoured and aerial models and has been developed in close cooperation with 343 Industries.

“We’re pretty stoked about the arrival of Halo: Ground Command and we can’t wait for players around the world to experience the fun we have been having as we created the models and core rules,” explains Spartan Neil Fawcett, Creative Director of Spartan Games. “Halo fans are used to seeing ground warfare from a first person perspective, but with this game we step back and embrace the whole battlefield where we see entire Battle Groups engaging with each other. Players can deploy units of Troopers, Grunts, Elites, ODST, Elite Rangers, Warthogs, Scorpions, Wraiths, Ghosts… the list goes on!”

Expansion plans for the game will see some of the most iconic vehicles from the Halo Universe realised in superb detail at 1:100th scale. “UNSC Pelicans, Covenant Phantoms, anti-air variants of the Scorpion and Wraith tanks, Banshees, Falcons and even giant machines like the Covenant Scarab. At 1:100th scale we have been working with the actual video game assets to make our models as accurate as possible. They are still designed to be gamed with, but we are sure fans of Halo will see just how much attention to detail we’ve lavished on these models,” explains Spartan Chris Peacey, Lead Designer for Spartan Games.

In much the same way as our spaceship combat game, Halo: Fleet Battles, was created to allow Halo fans to readily embrace wargaming in the Halo Universe, so the ground game is built around smooth and intuitive game mechanics. “This is a true wargame that brings together tanks, soldiers and flyers in a hobby format we are sure will see gamers create stunning battlefields upon which they can fight epic games using their stunning armies,” added Spartan Neil. “As we created the rules we made sure that the Halo canon was adhered to, generating those cinematic moments of excitement, and always looked to keep the gameplay fast, intuitive and bloody.”

A key part of the game play is the Reaction Engine, which means a unit is never safe from harm by an enemy unit. Players will need to keep their wits about them when deploying their forces and constant vigilance as a battle unfolds will be rewarded by victory!

Special Introductory offer - The first 100 Blacksmith miniatures are just £5 each! When the first batch is sold out, the regular price will be £9 (which we still think is excellent value).

Please note that depending on how many we sell, orders containing the Blacksmith may take a few days longer than usual to ship out, and will start shipping from Wed 30th March.

The Blacksmith will also be available to purchase for £5 at the SALUTE wargames show in London on April 16th (limited quantities).

To celebrate an incredible milestone - Five Years in business! - we have created this very special miniature, based on the Blacksmith character featured in our company logo.

The Blacksmith is a high quality, multi part resin miniature, standing an impressive 37mm to the top of his head (making him almost 8 foot tall in standard 28mm heroic scaling).

The Blacksmith is ideal for painting up as a display miniature, and is also suitable for use in a huge range of fantasy table top games, dungeon crawlers, board games and similar, with a number of different weapon and equipment options depending on how you want to use the figure.

    The set includes -

  • Blacksmith miniature

  • Choice of 2 different poseable heads - bare head or with barbaric spiky iron plate armour

  • Choice of 2 different right hand melee weapons - blacksmiths hammer or flaming sword

  • Choice of 3 different left hand options - knife, shield with Anvil Logo, or section of rough metal being worked into a blade

  • 30mm base with scenic base topper.
    [list]Anvil, Tongs and wooden debris

  • We hope you will enjoy painting our 5th Anniversary miniature!

Nice, they do have some very tempting minis don't they...

Maelstrom's Edge / Spiral Arms Studios

We hope everyone has had a nice, relaxing Easter Weekend, and with all the chocolate eggs eaten, Superhero movies watched and games played it is time to turn our attention to the upcoming Salute 2016 event in April.

Probably the biggest UK Wargaming show, Salute is packed with games companies showing off their latest releases: models, games, gaming accessories it is all there, and Spiral Arm Studios will be there too at stand TD01.

The whole team will be there to talk to:

    * Tomas and Stephen who wrote the fantastic Maelstrom's Edge novels Faith and Sacrifice.
    * Jon Regul, the man behind the Maelstrom's Edge gamerules.
    * James, our head honcho and overall master of the ship.
    * JP - if you want to talk about stocking the game in your shop or featuring in your magazine/podcast/Youtube show.

We'll also have plenty of models to look at:

    * the pro-painted studio models featured in the rulebook
    * examples of terrain made using our fantastic terrain sprue
    * a small demo game with freshly painted gaming models

And yes, you'll even be able to buy some Maelstrom's Edge products:

    * the boxed game
    * the new terrain sprue
    * Physical copies of the novels (these are limited numbers)

It promises to be an exciting day, and everyone who attends will get a free Epirian Foundation bot handler in the goodie bag handed out to all attendees.

Tickets are available now from the Salute website. http://www.salute.co.uk/salute/salute-2016/

We look forward to seeing you on the day and chatting all things Maelstrom's Edge.

The Maelstrom's Edge free Epirian Handler models, to be given out to all Salute 2016 attendees in the goddie bag.

This is a mock up of the actual packet, so forgive the slightly blurry image.

Look forward to seeing you on the day, and don't forget: STAND TD01

Will definitely pick up a terrain sprue or too, they're always useful.

Made my hasslefree preorder for collection, not many other companies I'd be interested in have announced pick-up orders yet

I am having an AWFUL time finding remotely modern buildings or ruins with actual... um... "rooms" modeled as interior, playable, spaces.

I'm hoping for some innovation of this front as it seems the popular, existing mdf stuff doesn't allow for this.

I know they haven't hit retail yet, as they are still frantically trying to fulfill backer pledges, but Antenociti's Forward Base kickstarter has some amazing interior details for 28mm sci-fi buildings. The range was made with Infinity in mind, but could be ported over to any sci-fi property without looking too out of place. The details are made in resin and applied to the interior walls...I assume these could be used on the interior walls made for the District 5 buildings by MAS.

Here's an assembly video of one of the habitats done by a backer that got his stuff already I suppose. It gives you a better look at some of the details and the quality.

Samnites to be released at Salute 2016 and Salute Deals

    Salute 2016 Deals

Due to the varying price of our plastic products it is difficult to run multi box deals. However, instead we will run a sliding percentage discount depending on the number of plastic sets you wish to purchase. This applies to all plastic products be it figure sets, aircraft, bases or movement trays.

    1 box 0% discount
    2-3 boxes 10% discount
    4-6 boxes 20% discount
    6-10 boxes 25% discount
    10+ boxes 30% discount

Unfortunately we are unable to offer discounts on the LittleBigMenStudios shield transfers.

The Samnites were a tribal group of the Oscan peoples that occupied Central and Southern Italy. They were fierce warriors and in their many wars with Rome they earned a high military reputation.

Samnites fought in loose formations armed with javelins and sword, preferably in hilly or wooded terrain. They were formidable fighters in close combat.

These fantastic and highly detailed miniatures are ideal as enemies of Republican Rome or fighting as allies and mercenaries in a Carthaginian army. They can also be used as earlier Italian peoples such as Lucani, Bruttii or Campani.

Both sets of 24 figures will be on release at Salute 2016 at £17.95 each.

It keeps things less busy at the start, gives me a good idea of how much to cast and should give me more opportunity to spend my time chatting about the Big Smoke and One Shots!

By adding the code SALUTE2016 to your order shipping costs will be removed. The Salute pre-orders and the Kickstarter Specials (only available at certain events) are shown on this page but any other items that you add to your order from the store will be available to collect at the same time.

While the vast majority of customers are happy to place orders in this way we know that some of you would like to place a combined order by email and receive a paypal invoice to pay. This is totally fine with us and here is what to do for a combined order by email. Firstly choose your point of contact. Is it Alternative Armies, 15mm.co.uk or The Ion Age? Choose one and email us on sales@alternative-armies.com, sales@15mm.co.uk or info@theionage.com.

Make your email title 'combined order' and give us your name, your shipping address, your paypal email address and a list of codes and quantities that you want to order from across our ranges. We will then reply with a total and a paypal invoice. You will get a free monthly miniature if you have Ion Age codes and you will get any other items offered free if applicable from the other websites if you have codes from its ranges in your order. We typically reply quickly but be assured you will not miss the free postage on your combined order as we will honour it as long as your email comes in before the offer ends. Thanks for Reading.

Salute 2016 is just over a week away, and Studio McVey will be there with resin castings of some of the large monsters from The Others.

So far we have taken delivery of resins of the Avatars for all 7 sins – Pride, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Envy and last but not least – Sloth. These are resin collectors pieces, moulded directly from the original sculpts. They are going to be available in very limited quantities. Once they are gone – we won’t be casting any more.

In case you were not aware, these are pieces from The Others Board we launched on Kickstarter last year. They are all very large pieces (Pride is enormous!), and have been cast beautifully by the same facility that makes out Limited Edition Resin range.

I’ll be posting again here before the show, to update on any other pieces we’ll be selling.

    Hope to see you there!

    Mike

    Quick show report:
What a day - drove up from N. Kent and parked in the Excel car park (£15) got there just after doors opened, didn't take long in the snaking queue to get in, but boy was it busy within minutes !! So much to see but so little time to see it all ! I didn't manage to get any pictures, but were some amazing games and tables on show.

    As a starter for 10:
The Big Wargame Convention Salute 2016 Picture Report!

So, here's the 'stash' shot from my visit to Salute '16.

Bargain buys from The Troll Trader's crazy clearance tables (could have spent a fortune here if I'd had some spare cash..., but I was strong a resisted):
Gale Force Nine 72"x36" Frozen Star System Space Mat - £10 (RRP £50)

GW Astra Militarium Tauros Prime - £20 (RRP £29)

    Other purchases:
3 sets of Zinge Industries 27mm Military Wheels to be used for a Taurox 6x6 conversion and other projects...

Copplestone Castings Terminator Robots - £8.50

The obligatory Hasslefree purchase - Lewis (because I love the 'Reign of Fire' movie - yeah, I know, guilty pleasure and all that )

Plus a free figure from Offensive Miniatures - 28mm WW2 US Paratrooper. Lovely mini and I'm now very much inclined to purchase some more at some stage...
    Spoiler:

...not to forget the official Salute dice & mini and a couple of free Maelstrom's Edge Epirian Handlers (was also great to meet Legoburner in the flesh on the MEdge stand - next time I'll likely be spending some cash with you guys )

Oh and got fleeced again by buying food from the overpriced food stalls in the main concourse... One year I'll learn my lesson and take my own grub

    Post by: NAVARRO

For the next weeks I will post my typical Photo reports here too I just need to sort out all pictures and stuff first.

As a starting point I must say this Salute was one of the best for shopping but not has crazy for memorable gaming tables. Lots of new upcoming projects too. I also noticed that this year the stands were more busy than usual and selling more than previous years, after talking with some of my fav companies they were doing REALLY well, which is a sign of a healthy industry.

Overall the best Salute so far and its growing stronger and stronger... Oh Its physically impossible to cover every stand in therms of report specially if its just one guy with one camera... For example the BOW reports which are a fully fledged team with loads of cameras and gear only scratched the surface of what was going on there IMO. So I strongly advise anyone to save their pennies during the year to come to salute 2017, its well worth it to see it in the flesh, you will not regret it.

My purchases were all preplanned this year, I didn't make any impulse purchases, mostly because it was so difficult to actually get to see anything. The Prodos stand in particular had a gigantic queue that was extremely slow moving.

Not a massive haul but I do tend to be strict with myself.

Of course the beauty of it was that, due to taking out the Wargames Illustrated sub, the Hail Caesar book, Romans and Centurion figure only cost me a fiver.

Being amongst the first to make it to the Perry's allowed me to have a chat with my heroes as well as picking up the new Afghanistan/ Sudan British infantry. I now have terriers that may be drafted into my 40K Praetorian IG army every now and then.

    I got::

Garden of Morr - This was a good find, they are hard to get hold of.
Renedra Gravestones - To go with the Garden of Morr.
Reaper Bones - Assorted resin miniatures. Nothing major just the bargain bucket ones, I went for monsters mostly included a nice Chimera and a few otgher D&D miniatures I will find very handy.
AVP Sentry Guns - These were popular, I missed out on getting some Predator hounds.
AVP Facehuggers - Both of these will be a gift for our groups AVP owner.

Not a lot really, but then I mainly go to connect to certain faces once a year. I tried to get a copy of Frostgrave, but it sold out show-wide, good indicator of the games ballooning popularity.

Very angry, but most reserved it for Jarek rather than have a go at his employees. The irony was having to queue in their sales queue to get your Kickstarter stuff validated was costing them money. Lots of people put down purchases and walked away because of the wait.

Did anyone play any games? It sounds like most people went there just to buy things. I guess I can see the appeal of being able to see things in person before you buy, rather than purchasing over the internet when you can't find things at a local store.

Yes you certainly can play games, some of the tables are more display orientated but you do get a certain amount of club presence, and the likes of Hawk giving demos of DZC and the like.

The appeal is also in some of the truly mental display pieces that you will only ever get at shows of that size, some of which must surely take years to prepare (take a look at some of the photos in the links reds8n put in the post above yours for instance)

That is me (darrkespur) on the left, then Jon (yakface), JP (JP1138) and the boss himself, Jim (legoburner) moving things on top of the cabinets. Steve (StephenGaskell) was also there. Thanks for everyone that visited the stand, we had a lot of fun chatting to people about MEdge!

Devils Run: Route 666. The minis are truly fantastic and the game seems to have landed on its feet after a good run on KS last year. Plus Mark is a super nice guy. He nearly sold me on a copy of the game when I talked to him at Salute and I don't even care for these Mad Max style car games

Does it show the company structure? 3 managers and 1 worker

Great posts NAVARRO, the pictures are great although i wish there was more exposition, as i do not know half of the things i am seeing.

Thanks for the pics there Navarro, some really cool looking stuff. Again, a lot that I wasn't even aware was coming out!

What is the car game with the really cool artwork, is that that 'Devil's road' that ran a KS last year?

Yeah the cars look so good IRL, i really need a new camera since maybe 70% of my fotos were trashed due to blurry issues.

    Update 8

    http://mr-bugman.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/salute-2016-report-8-of-10.html

Jehan-reznor it was really hard to cover this much stands in detail, there is simply no time for it. I need a wing man.... or 10

Thanks all we reached 200 images now.

nice stuff Navarro, awesome effort - I took zero pictures, even though I had my camera and my phone...

@Jehan-reznor - check out some of these blogs. Piecing together with Navarros blog, it's a pretty extensive coverage of the show to end all shows... (in the UK at least)

And a podcast... would have thought it....

    http://madaxeman.podbean.com/e/whats-in-the-bag-the-salute-2016-podcast

I've just started podcasting, and in typically over-ambitious wargaming style have followed up my first 4 "video & audio battle reports with added curry review" podcasts with a "live field recording" from the pub next to the ExCeL centre with a guest panel of 5 of my clubmates.

Titled "Whats in the Bag?", this podcast allows you to listen to half a dozen beery blokes getting over excited about how much lead (& mdf) they have just bought – so a normal night out with your gaming buddies really, apart from the fact that you probably won't know these ones.

Apologies in advance for the audio quality, rubbish banter, and (I think) the odd swear-word, but other than that please enjoy what I believe is the first Salute! 2016 post-event podcast …

I know the feeling mate, every stand draws you like a magnet and its easy to forget pictures and all and just go for it and have fun. It happened to me several times this year

    The 9th update is on

    Love your rock giant, Navarro

Is that a slug to rival / face off against your snails on the top shelf, too? Look massive, unless that's a trick of the camera (hope your snails are significantly smaller, at least and maybe they can team up...)

    Cheers guys.

Funny you mentioned the slug since I'm in "slug mode" now

The snails I did are much much smaller than this slug though
