Hello Dakka!

I'm Chris Smoker, Vyler on Dakka, better known for helping popularize angry marines around the internet with /tg contributions as well as my own set of modeling and conversions. This was my Original Angry Marines P&M Blog, and you may have seen some of my work before - that Stormraven in particular has made its rounds around the internet!



I've been gone from the 40k hobby for years, and instead of trying to threadnomancy that really old blog with my latest project, I've started a new one! A Dakkanaut named Dashofpepper found the hole I was hiding in and dragged me out kicking and screaming to enlist my aid in creating an Angry Marine army for him to rejoin the national GT circuit after his own multi-year absence from the hobby.

I'd been mulling over the idea of stepping up my game and taking commissions FOR THE EMPRAH, and this was the perfect opportunity to take on my first 40k commission! This blog will track the progress of my newest project, which thus far involves:

-A VERY ****ING ANGRY CAPTAIN

-AWESOMELY RAGE FILLED SCOUT BIKERS

-AGGRESSIVELY AGGRESSIVE AGGRESSORS

I'll be posting updates, conversion pictures, and a progress report here to share ideas, brainstorm, and SHARE THE FURY OF THE EMPRAH'S SPEHSS MUHREENS ON THOSE ****ING HERETICS.

The first things in my list of things to do for Dashofpepper is a Captain. I'm waiting on various bits and parts for the other things, so I'm starting with him:








The job is to create a captain with a jump pack, thunder hammer, and storm bolter. I changed out the legs for more dynamic ones from a deathwatch sprue, and am also using the deathwatch thunder hammer as the base for his weapon because it's HUEG and double-handed. ALWAYS ANGRY, ALL THE TIME. For those who don't know what Angry Marines are, you can read about it there, or GET A ING CERAMITE BOOT SHOVED UP YOUR ING HERETIC HOLE. In case it matters, this is going to be a "Counts-As" Ultramarine army - an old friend of mine (Hulksmash) gave me a low model count army Ultramarines army list to gently get me back into the hobby without stressing over model quantity or timed tournament play.

Pictures of Vyler's angry marines are everyone on the internet, and when my wife decided we were going to be ****ING FURIOUSLY ANGRY and meme-worthy, I stalked this guy across the internet and begged him to apply his amazing ideas to my benefit. I look forward to seeing how this turns out!

That is ... something I don't think I've ever seen before ... and it is fething wonderful!

Great looking land speeder too, it's badass.

That dozer blade makes me want to have stormshields made out of dozer blades on my veterans. I don't want them carrying an arm mounted dinky stormshield, I want a massive, bullet deflecting wall of adamantium / ceramite. Like boarding shields, but even bigger. Plus, all that extra surface area would make even more artwork surface for angry marine-isms.

Maybe Bullgryn slab shields as oversized graffiti boards.

What about angry marines using a vindicator dozer shield as a storm shield, stood up on end, but it's so ridiculously oversized that he's having to dolly it into combat on a 2-wheeled dolly that he's pushing forward on wheels.

This should be good, I'll be following for sure! Angry Marines always remind me of old Newgrounds..

I was thinking about starting my own chapter of marines, but I guess the Mildly Annoyed Marines seems a bit lacking in comparison...

Just a quick update, finished with the converting and started applying paint.

Sweet angry Jesus not only is the hammer extra large and swung by a steroid rage induced genetically altered miscreant with a gun adding that little extra umph, its fetching double barreled . he has a jump pack too to help acceleration . Now he needs to be delivered into combat on the front of the landspeeder.

Sort of. My power feet squad had chain swords before I gave them dual flamers. Now they count as Firestorm Aggressors!

Having read the angy marine lore, I have to say your jobs look good but seriously, would an angry marine really wear a cape?

I mean I think angry marines would probably have a negative attitude towards capes as those are what xxxxxx xxxxx chaod lords, xxxxxxxxxxx eldar xxxxxxx and drama queen ultra marines wear. Remember that's how angry marines are.

But without a cape what can they tear off in rage, wrap around the head of the nearest fether and kerb stomp them into the stone age.

You are absolutely right. In general principle, capes are ****ing pretty ****ing *** as ****. NO CAPES.

This is a wonderfully angry exception. I know the story of the cape that captain is wearing. I know the potency of the rage and hate fueled psyker blood that it was dyed with. That cape was a stupid pure white testament to purity that got used as a mop because ****ING HERETICS CAN'T BE ****ING ARSED TO EVEN *****ING BLEED OUT POLITELY. FYI, the label "HERETIC" applies to ANY****ING ONE I ****ING SAY IT DOES. But you're right. Capes are stupid. That one isn't. That cape is imbued with so much angst, unfair death, and trolled martyrdom that it is a LITERAL SOURCE OF MENTAL NOURISHMENT. It's probably sacred wargear at this point.

Vyler can tell you the story sometime if he wants.

IT'S A WHOLE CHAPTER PRIMARILY MADE UP OF BALD, INCOHERENTLY ANGRY PSYCHOPATHS! IT NEEDS TO BE EASY TO SEE WHICH BALD, SCREAMING ER IS IN CHARGE. I'm pretty sure you've just committed heresy. I suggested that Vyler maybe try replicating my avatar onto the standard bearer's head, and ...I can only paraphrase, but his response was something like, "ANGRY MARINES ARE NOT ****ING FURRIES HERETIC"

Also you need an angry marine, cultist chan and an exploded landraider...

Pre-assembly is done! All the launcher loaded/launching weapons are magnetized for easy removal and transport. TIME TO GET SOME PAINT ON THESE MOTHER ERS.

Everything that goes in the launchers is magnetised. The arms will be glued, they are just off for now to make painting easier.

Since Dashofpepper is such a big fan of Captain Morgan, and the angry marine standard bearer I'm making for him is going to be drinking booze, and since space marines have to drink a LOT of booze to overwhelm their Oolitic Kidney, I found an appropriately sized bottle of Captain Morgan to arm his standard bearer with.



FYI, that brewmaster apothecary is a WIP project of my own that I keep putting off...

I'm remotely slave driving the best I can. I've been posting pictures of his stuff around the internet, and at least one other person has solicited interest in Vyler doing a commission for them. I told Vyler last night if he takes on another commission before finishing mine, I'm going to mail him a box of turds.

The order is for 3 squads of 3 bikers. The sgts are going to be their own special project, so for now I'm angrifying the 6 "regular" bikers.





Looks like they had a couple of blown tires thanks to some careless orks. SHAME THOSE GREEN SKINNED ERS DIDN'T HAVE ANY INSURANCE, OUR SCOUTS HAD TO GET "CREATIVE" TO FIX THEIR RIDES. WE'RE ALSO OUT OF ORKS.

What are those wheels made out of?

Also, are those chainblades overmounted or undermounted on the twin bolters?

Also, I heard that you have some sort of giant blunderbusses to replace the astartes shotguns - have any pictures of those?

1) Kromlech has a weird ork dreadnought alternative, and those wheels are it's close combat weapons.

2) Chainblades and other bayonets are all underslung.

3) Astartes shotguns are so boring and sterile, so I replace them with DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUNS (from kromlech). ONE BARREL FOR "F" AND THE OTHER FOR "U"!!

I got all the hand held weapons attached. Any additional equipment will be modeled on the bikes in the next step for WYSIWYG.

This lad is going to have grenades on his gas can in the final version. HEY HERETICS, CATCH:

I solved this problem by adding yet more chainsaws.


Anywho, between work emergencies and weather emergencies, I got delayed, but they're finally all ready for paint!

Models look great- can't wait for the paint. As these are bikers- are any wearing Nasty Feet (TM) engineer boots, with the little pocket on the side for an extra crescent wrench (adjustable spanner, for our cousins on the other side of the pond)? I figure that extra wrench stuck into the boot would be like a hide-out stiletto or switchblade for any non-Angry fighter.

The buzzsaw wheels look even better painted, I can't believe that conversion worked so well

Now that the rank and file are done, it's time for the Sgts. The order calls for them to be riding chariots, drawn by mutilated khorne berserkers, who are being whipped by their own severed arms. Lets get this party started!

I like the little flags. Makes them look very cheery... you know, except for the horribly mutilated guys up front. Probably not so cheery for them

No lie, Vyler's proof of concept for those Scout Bikers is what made me desperate to get him to make an entire army for me. He sketched it out on pen and paper and it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. I saved pictures of his creative genius.







Seeing his genius come to life from paper is incredibly exciting. Getting to participate is even better, and being the recipient of his art is best of all. =D

In fact, it's so amazing that I've been hiring illustrators to immortalize every model he makes, but that's another story entirely.

Vyler is busy modeling instead of dealing with Dakka's archaic gallery architecture, so I offered to post these WIP photos for him.

This is the second scout sniper squad. The first squad was normal angry marine colors - the other scout sniper squads are all going to be themed with Xenos cover. This one is using Orks!

Here's a scout sniper with an Ork head and a stabbin' bit on his sniper rifle.




This one has his sniper rifle stuck through an ork boy to use as camouflage!





There might be a theme going on here.






Here's a scout sniper with a heavy bolter and some add on Ork gubbins.




And finally, here's the soon to be scout sergeant, wielding twin shootas as a "Counts as storm bolter" and his sniper rifle slung across his back.

These are looking great, love the CC Sniper rifles. I've always had a soft spot for Angry Marines.

I would give standing ovations for these kitbashes.
