So, after mumble weeks of lurking I’ve decided to make a go of actually posting regularly again. That said, my previous blog had already been resurrected... too many times. Part of the problem was framing device and foolish emphasis on clear-cut, planed results. Therefore I decided throw it out and start over with clear plan for what and how to write new posts.
0) Respond to feedback.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
4) Finished pics, I’ll need to see about a simple “photobooth” setup.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
So, on to the first post:
The original is now archived in a spoiler to make way for the 2020 edition!
Spoiler:
0) NA
1)
Taken earlier today, I currently have a Karist Nova, my “Movie Accurate” Imperial Assault figures and newly acquired Legion test dummies chilling waiting for appropriate “want to” or “don’t wanna.” The Nexu, Heavy Weapon Stormtroopers, Kayn Somos, Karist trooper leader and 2 special weapon troopers, and 6 Autorifle Cultists are the “true” current WIPs.
2) My goal for the year is to finish any new “The Other Side” models I get, my Chaos and Genestealer cults, KillTeam: Rogue Trader, Blackstone Fortress, Battle for Zycanthus, and Star Wars stormtroopers. I actually have it all spreadsheet’ed up! Which leads into...
3) How I’m doing on my goal: Red is need to do, Green are done.
In picture format:
Cookie sheet is the short-ish term planed order, white tray is khaki or khaki/olive drab paint schemes, plastic is other paint schemes, and the LEGO tray is a “holding cell” for WIPs that are waiting for more to get to the same point before I move to the next step.
4) Finished: 12 Cultists and my Ur-Ghuls
Also I have repeated an previous bit of encouragement and cleared a shelf for this year’s achievements.
SW Legion Imperial Specialists to see just how bad scale is between Imperial Assault and Legion.
My findings indicate good enough for me. Imperial Assault models are the scrawny 5 foot nothing people and Legion is the 6’6” slabs of muscle.
Also 5 Blick Red Sable 00 watercolor brushes for $18ish. Gave me around a 50% discount, there the right size for most of my work, and I’m hard enough on brushes it makes sense.
6) ... AAAIIIIEEEGGG!!! RUN AWAY!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
*Snip*
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
So that was 2019, What does 2020 hold?
New goals!
1) Finish more than I buy.
Carry over from 2019: Karic acolytes 10, cast hull Sherman, Miss Anne Thrope, Alt Misaki, Morats 2, Sci-fi Dino Men 2, Clockwork Dragon, Eldar Wraith Warband 12, Studying Sophie, Alt Killjoy, German Puma, and Alt Molly crew with both additional models 8, for a total of 41 minis and 53 Hotwheels
2) Paint at least 188 minis. (twice 2019's carry over, 15.66666/month)
3) Finish 1 titan from my backlog a quarter.
4) Complete the following:
Nautical Undead
13, counts as 15 minis.
Malifaux Gremlins
24 counts as 30 minis. The Whisky Golem and War Wabbit both have multiple riders and all 3 "Not Bob Ross"-es have a pig "canvas"
Abyssal Army
22 minis, also base 5 heck-puppers and 10 gargoyles
Skeleton Horde
Includes 4 ghosts (shown) and a Necromancer (not pictured). 70 minis.
Wraith Warband
12 minis.
Star Wars, Malifaux Fey and Gaslands vehicles
Along with any more I buy/build. Currently 13 minis.
And finish the 2019 "failures" 12 minis, 9 count.
That's 175 towards the goal of 188 right there!
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Well, I've got my work cut out for me.
First 6 rifle cultists and all the Karist grunts are in holding, and the Imperial Assault “elite” Stormtroopers (minus Captain Terro/cammo print dewbackrider) and both Nexu have their main wash done. Hopefully I can blacken the bases, paint the guns for the Stormies and pinkify the mouths and tails for the nexu tomorrow.
2) Year long goal is doing well and achieved my “I need to go to work now so this is what I’ll do after work” goal.
3) Updated my Spreadsheet with some yellow for WIPs. Now the stuff in the “holding cell” is accounted for!
4) Nothing more done yet. YET.
5) Can’t rant, need to sleep soon.
6) And for an en—
Well, it seems like you're taking an organised approach to this - something I can appreciate, given how many achievements I've set myself for this year
One thing I would suggest is that it may be worth getting some closer shots of some of your WIPs (and, when you get them, your completed models), as currently it isn't massively clear on where you're up to and how things are looking.

Good luck, though!
Thanks, I find a simple, organized plan designed to handle the inevitable failure upon contact with the enemy (me and my impulsiveness) helps.
I am unfortunately forced to agree with you 100% on doing better WIP shots. My ego thanks you and my laziness would curse you 40,000 times but it’s just to lazy.
So, taking your advice I got off my ... you know, and actually figured out a functional method of taking WIP photos. Now I just need to work out finished photos and scheduling.
1) Now for the results:
2) Scaling back yesterday’s hopes for today’s goal: Stormtrooper guns and the super-secret daily goal I hadn’t felt like mentioning; get at least an hour of painting done.
3&4) N.A.
5) Really need to come up with a squad level transport for my Stormtroopers. I have a paper model I know will work and I have another to test out but as usual, I’m lazy. Also I ain’t blowing $50+ on the tank they’re releasing for SW Legion. Speaking of SW Legion, DARN MY EYES / THINKY BITS! I’m totally going to start getting SW Legion and I need to order 27!! Millimeter diameter by 3mm thick bases. Yes, really. Fantasy Flight did that. The bases they come with are ~5mm thick which is what makes Imperial Assault stuff just a little too short to handle for me.
And as a public service announcement: GO VOTE IT THE DAKKA GALLERY!!! I too need to try and do this a little more often than... once a month or three?
6) Heh, I made a funny waaay back in my third sentence.
0) It’s a new blog, responses will take time...
1)
Not much on the WIP front, Nexu got the first layer of pink on and test build of transport has results.
2) 10 Stormtroopers closer to achieving the goal! Hopefully today the nexu get finished and I get to gaming.
3) Official count: 22 of the goal, 0 extras.
4)
Not pictured 4 more grunts and a longrifle trooper. I really need to figure out a better photo set up.
5) So the paper models I found should work I just need to lengthen and widen the body. Going to build one in card stock with the changes included and then make a decision as to whether or not I’ll do a third build in plastic.
6) “Graceful, polished, and witty ending.”
If you're wanting to improve your pictures, dude, see if there is a version of this lightbox available from your local version of Amazon. Mine cost me about £10, and (now I've figured out the phone settings to use) it is making a big difference to my final photos.
Dysartes wrote: If you're wanting to improve your pictures, dude, see if there is a version of this lightbox available from your local version of Amazon. Mine cost me about £10, and (now I've figured out the phone settings to use) it is making a big difference to my final photos.
I was planning on refurbishing one of the 3? Or so options we had in the house but I decided to go ahead and take a look for something like the one you linked. Glad I did, better size and easier to setup than anything we had for a very reasonable price, less than $20 in all. I actually wound up with the exact one you linked just from a US based source.
Still needs some refinement but definitely better.
1) Slow and steady wins the race, right? The last week has been more resource gathering than painting. Picked up some extra shifts at work for $$$, cleaned up a room netting me some aquarium plants for terrain and peace from my parents, and got styrene sheets and rectangular stock for building a light transport for Star Wars. But paint still happened:
2) Nexu done! AT-STs are next for Imperial Assault because sometimes a crazed headlong charge is the best chance you’ve got. But today I’m hoping to get the grey and blue on the current batch of Karists basecoated and another coat of pink on the angels.
3) Current progress: 26 from the grid, 2 extras, 12 in holding.
4) Here kitty kitty kitty;
BAD KITTY! BAD KITTY! AAAAAA!!!!
5) Ramblings: Sometimes throwing money at the problem to make it go away is the right choice.
6) ... I got nothing. Hopefully I’ll have another early morning (for me) update tomorrow.
Not as bright as I’d planned but I just don’t care enough to bother fixing them.
The dreaded AT-STs, I’m just going to do metallics, wash, and drybrush.
Assassin droids, BT “Boomer” & IG-86 “Acyd” models are Imperial Assault BT-1 & IG-88. Based on what I found on Wookiepedia the IG-86 line was almost visually identical to IG-88 but had more than 4 prototypes produced and there was a whole line of assassin droids that look like astromechs called Blastromechs.
Karist force, wash and detailing still to come.
Cultists.
2) No goals beyond do some painting today.
3) How the grid looks at the moment:
4) Finished pics... maybe tomorrow.
5) The headlong charge is working! Now to mentally squeeze my eyes shut and dive into the next “oh god, sooooo much work to do for this step.”
6) By the squirrels in my head I will conquer this horde!
Meer_Cat wrote:"By Grabthar's hammer, you shall be avenged!"
Seriously, looking good!
Not the reference I was thinking of, but I like it!
And thanks for looking in, I was starting to worry only Dysartes had seen this blog.
Dysartes wrote:Looks like you're making decent progress, dude - and glad the lightbox seems to have helped.
Thank you, I’ll be the first to admit I paint for the table top. Could I do better? Definitely, but that’s not what I’m interested in doing.
The light box was an excellent suggestion, now if I can just quit puttering about and get the laptop I’ve been saving up for I might actually bother with more than just cropping the pictures.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Excellent progress, keep it up!
That’ll be the trick, I KNOW “slow and steady” works incredibly well but I keep falling into “over caffeinated squirrel or glorified corpse nothing in between.”
0) Done.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress. It’s all primer coats right now soooo... AT-STs! I actually have highlights added and the nose art started since this was taken but I’m to lazy to take another picture right now.
2) Twenty three minis on the grid finished up yesterday and 7 more (5 grid, 2 extras) since my last update
3) 58 done this year. 54 from the grid, 4 extra, nothing in the holding cell, and 15 on the desk at the moment.
4) Finished pics. RELEASE THE DELUGE!
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about. I put 6 brand new items and 3 on sprue minis into the FLGS’s upcoming auction yesterday. Almost all of it for well below MSRP because I logically knew I had NO use for it and I didn’t need any temptation. The only thing I put in close to what it was worth was a mini that has only just hit retail that I’d gotten (as far as I was concerned, free) as part of a Kickstarter.
Meer_Cat wrote: Some seriously nice work with metallics in these pics!
0) Thanks, although to be honest they’re all really simple; 1-3 coats straight from the bottle and a wash.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Don’t have one.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Hoping to get the Basic Stormtrooper Grunts basecoated and a bit more done.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
60 done now. Those AT-STs are done.
4) Finished pics. “Oh Brad” and the General “Dammit Janet” Weiss
5) ... I got nothing right now.
6) Now the airspeeder...
Dysartes wrote: I do wonder if the General thought he strapped enough guns to his AT-ST...
I sincerely doubt it. However, to be fair I did add the name side missile rack and swapped the wonky slug thrower barrel with four monster truck shocks laser cannon barrels.
Dysartes wrote: Interesting tone to take from them, as well - I'm getting a bit of a 40k Wraithbone feel.
Yeah, they were supposed to match the Stormtrooper armor but washes+big flat surfaces=nope.
Still, I think it works as a bleached sand finish.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
All that was done before the dread Blah hit.
And yesterday’s “I actually WANT to paint.” They started at black primer.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
I’ve been bad. See below at #5, first bit.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
4) Finished pics,
Nope.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
So just for fun I maaay have picked up a couple cars for Gaslands-esque shenanigans. And then a couple more. And it snowballed.
At least I now have the rules? Unfortunately it gave me an EXCELLENT excuse to get the semi.
Been just... “blah, I dont wanna” recently. Getting any painting done felt more like a chore that I should be doing and nothing was looking good in the ignore WIPs and do what calls to me department. Thankfully I broke through it yesterday.
(Semi) mature self analysis of blahs root cause. Feel free to ignore.
Spoiler:
I suspect it was either an undiagnosed mental issue rearing its head or I was just virally ill because I most of the time I was either sleeping or doing the bare minimum to exist. I have several friends with a variety of mental health issues and the rest are all supportive so I’m aware of more than the simplest symptoms. There’s also a diagnosed family history across multiple generations back to ... a great grandparent? at least so I know to keep an eye out and if I need help it IS there.
Not looking for sympathy/suggestions/whatever, I just know who I am. When It comes to stuff like this either I bottle things up or I confront them head on. I realize this probably isn’t the best place to go into this but I’ve typed it up and since I’m willing to put it out there anyway probably healthier to leave it (Confront) than delete it (Bottle).
I seem to be able to better analyze things when I write it down even if it’s exactly the same as whatever is rolling around in my head.
6) Me stop now before feedback loop / circular gibbering start.
Very much like all the work you've shown here- particularly like the tractors set. I can do "military grubby" weathering- I saw enough of it over 30 years, but I can't do (very well yet) normal, 'civilian' wear and tear. I'm working on chipping and light rust, got some good feedback on my last project- the yellow fleet you have here is really well done.
As for anything else, you know yourself, the painting/modeling comes as it comes. The Dude abides!

Keep up the great work.
Thanks, but I think you’re overestimating the weathering on the tractors. They are juuuuuuust barely above the lowest level of painting. Literally sloppy drybrushing over black.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Just base coating Stormtroopers khaki, so too boring to bother.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Minimal work on the year goal but tertiary goals are progressing. My goal for St. Patrick’s Day is the Stormtroopers ready for their first wash.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
I’m calling the latest batch +7 minis done. Total for the year is 67
4) Finished pics
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
No time.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Got to get to work.
Dysartes wrote:Are you gluing those crates together in stacks, or leaving them as individuals so you can set them up as you wish each game?
Aside from some I'm using for basing, that's kinda my problem with all the crates and barrels I have from those sprues.
I’m leaving them loose for now, if I had more I’d probably go ahead and glue up some stacks. I’m lucky to get one game of Malifaux (steampunk) or The Other Side (more steampunk) a week so I don’t actually plan on using these for play any time soon.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Back to work on the year goal, misestimated work needed yesterday. On the upside, markings! Maybe by the end of today I’ll have them ready for a wash.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
See above.
4) Finished pics.
Not yet.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
I have a number of Star Wars Lego speeders and similar. I have the Gaslands rules. Said rules have suggestions for changing scale. Insert thinkyness...
I’ll take better/more focused pics over next 3 days.
Rebel vehicles, Slanesh and tzeentch cultists, METAL Plague Marines, and a bucket of rebels awaiting detailing, wash, and basing.
2) One overall goal for the year
Some progress, some failure, not doing too bad. Haven’t started any new armies beyond Legion (T.B.H., inevitable really and the Rebs won’t be expanding) and minimal growth of existing armies. Army expansion consists of a new unit for my horribly lacking Gibbering Hordes, the Star Wars Imperials from Legion, Karic Acolytes for Tzeentch cultists, Naeve Blacktallon as a Slaneshi champion, and some random one offs.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Now at 120 total done for the year. 90/173 on the grid, 99/202 for the goal, right around halfway done at just a little under half the year gone.
4) Finished pics.
Again, more over the next 3 days. Completed since last update; Legion Vader, Khorn cultists, Cult leaders, 6 Starstriders, a unit of Gibbering Hordes Yazari for “The Other Side”, and a fey pinup (censored to be safe) from Reaper.
5) Ramblings.
First off, I have been LAZY! I haven’t been as idle as my posting would suggest but I haven’t exactly been maintaining steady progress.
Second, Stoopid Let’s Go Eevee. I picked it up shortly before Easter and it got me back into Pokémon Go. I’ve hardly played Let’s Go since the first week but I’ve been pretty consistently walking 5+ kilometers a day while playing Pokémon Go. I’m still a fat lazy bum but at least now I’m getting a little exercise.
Third and lastly, I should do a photo shoot of at least my Gibbering Hordes if not all my “The Other Side” stuff.
Fourth, I am currently resisting the Eldar and Scion starters, the Ambull, the Ambots, Kastelan robots, Nurgle and CSM ranges, most of the newer GSC stuff, and Looncurse.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
I don’t wanna be a hoomun! *face plant into bed whumph*

Those stormtrooper lizard rider guys came out _ACE_
[sarcasm] Errr mer gerd! Don't you have encyclopedic knowledge of the only Star Wars film ever made? Those are Banthas, not lizards! Err, wait, I mean Dewbacks. [/sarcasm]
Between the markings on the Dewbacks and the riders shoulder pad they were a lot of fun to do. I actually like 5 (HOTH!), 7 (Poe and our general), 8 (Rose and grumpy old man Luke!), and rouge uno (TPK!), 1-3 had great visuals, too bad about the story, The Clone Wars series had its moments (Domino squad, Rex, Cody, Cad Bane, Obi Sass Wan, and Asoka mostly), 4 and 6 are classics, Solo... is good but at the same time I don't like it showing Solo's backstory, and I haven't seen the remaining TV stuff.
And now, more photo dump;
Yazari from The Other Side
Starstrider grunts
movie inspired Darth Vader
Tasteful, and digitally censored fairy only wearing just enough to claim art.
Meer_Cat wrote: See- I knew Banthas were fuzzy, so these couldn't be Banthas. Dewlaps, that sounds familiar! Next you'll be telling me Han didn't shoot first.....
Plague marines done. I was having a of a time getting pics without horrible burnout.
... then I remembered that in addition to the black background the light box came with a WHITE background.
This is banana pants loony head 42-666 reporting in. We are not dead... yet. How are you command?
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M.
Holy lousy quality Bat-being! Negavolts, Iron Man, and Blackstone Fortress tripod thingies are on the bench right now baring base dilivery.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Hehe, funny thing that, Malifaux 3E dropped and, well, finishing everything I own for a faction suddenly became SUUUPER important to my mind. On the upside it was only a... 2ish? week distraction.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Like, it's happening but lets be honest. Pictures of color coded checkboxes? not that interesting.
Oh, and like 160 to 170ish minis done for the year. Calling it now, achieving all the goals is out of reach but my "The Other Side" stuff and Imperial Assault Stormtroopers are all done, my independent Chaos cultists are down to a couple late addition stragglers, my goal for the next month is the last of Blackstone Fortress (3 CSM, 4 Negavolts, 4 tripods, and the 9 heroes), and completion is in excess of purchacing
Because 2+ full paychecks for one with a single loadout as a daunting mountain of resin when I can get a pair with spare arms in plastic for less than even a week's wages.
'Zeentch cultists:
BeastMen:
On to the Star WAAAGHs! Rebel Bums:
Zeroes:
Defeats:
Bloopers:
Nostril Art:
I show those poor s NO respect.
And now I go back through The Breach to Malifaux! And rather than returning to my Arcane Anarchist cradle I'm going for the Hollywood Asians!
The 100% done "new" recruits. I've had 2/3rds of them for... over a year now? and 1/2 since shortly after I began playing Malifaux.
Yin the Penegalan, one of the very first Wyrd models I got. I picked her up cheap between 1st and 2nd edition because "Eh, I'm not going to play the game but it'd be nice to have a penegalan."
... BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I was SUCH a fool. The sad part is I eventually got the card to use her in 2e but never did and now she's limited to one master I don't own in my chosen faction. Yeah.
And the new recruits awaiting sufficient bases.
Jorogumo, no longer usable with the master I got them for but good for another that I WILL be getting:
Obsidian Oni and Kamatachi (AKA, THE MAGICAL WIND WEASEL!) same boat as the Jorogumo, and Teracotta Wariors who just need them bases:

I am SOOO bad at this consistent updating thing.
Good grief you've been busy- and away too long, welcome back!
A lot of great pieces here, and tremendous variety. I'm really grooving on the Warhound- I have a Reaver that I would love to be able to hit with that Ice pattern- really well done.

Thanks Meer_Cat! I’ve been around, just very lurk-y.
I don’t recall the paint job on the warhound being that hard to do. I don’t know if the way I did it would scale beyond a standard 40k Knight but it should work for anything in Titanicus.
Now this will all be from several months ago memory for a unique scheme so color names may be wrong but basic methodology should hold. Make sure that you leave plenty of drying time in between to avoid muddying from accidental wet blending.
Basecoat Reaper Ashen Blue (very blue Space Puppy grey sort of color)
Using a fairly stiff and slightly sacrificial flat brush (personality, a Dick Blick size 0-2 Schoolastic line, bright shape, ox hair? brush) loaded like for a heavy dry brushing, stipple on Reaper Ghost White (just barely blue tinted white)
Glaze/wash with Daler Rowney ink, either Rowney Blue, Process Cyan, or a mixture thinned probably 1 ink: 1 Reaper Brush on Clear Coat: 1-2 H2O. (A GW blue wash or contrast paint would probably work perfectly here. This should be done with a “paint” that is NOT opaque and is never intended to be completely opaque, translucency is vital here.)
Wait at least overnight if using Daler Rowney inks
Stipple over the previous squiggles again using Vallejo Gloss White (PURE white) letting the previous stippling peak through.
The Daler Rowney inks are great and you can do a lot with them but there is definitely a learning curve and you kind of have to just develop a “feel” for how they act. I wouldn’t suggest them for beginners but if you’re comfortable mixing up your own washes from regular paint they’re definitely a tool worth taking a look at in my opinion.
Excellent- thank you for the recipe and the guidance! I've got a couple of things to wrap up and then want to give either the Reaver or an Eldar Knight conversion (from a Gundam kit) a try, and will look to use this scheme.

Looking forward to the Eldari Guin’di’am patern walker no matter the scheme! And always happy to share my paint schemes and methods or tricks (building or painting) provided *I* remember them.

Sorry, but I just can’t seem to give even half a about getting a decent picture tonight.

+5 done! Negavolt cultists and the Man-of-Iron from Blackstone Fortress.
4) Finished pics.
Eh, see above.
5) Ramblings.
See those pewter beauties in the back of the pic? That’s my shiny new Morat Aggresion Force and Classic Raicho from Corvus Belli. 7 models, 5 on 25mm, 1 on a 40mm, and 1 on a 50mm rather than a 40mm+extension Franken-base. The wonderful start of a beautiful Morat Sectoral for Infinity.
Grand damage, $114. They were bought today on an impulse.
I swear, I either have the self control of a monk or an over caffeinated squirrel. And no matter how long I can imitate the first the damage of the second makes it all for naught.
Buyers remorse level? Low, actually.
I’ve been drooling over ALL the Morats for a long time now and the Classic Raicho is Out of Production.
That Raicho was a beast to assemble though. The hips are reasonably well keyed but they’re just SOOOOO small. Luckily each leg is a single solid pice. And of course I didn’t drill the holes for the brass rods in it’s shoulders until AFTER the legs and torso were assembled and pinned into a single pice base. Thankfully my parents helped me with the holes in the torso’s shoulders.
I am not a smart Mon’kigh.
It’s been hot as recently so that’s been messing with the habits I’d been establishing but I found out my village park services has an indoor walking track that’s free to use so I’ve been able to start forcing myself back into getting SOME exercise.
As I was writing up the Pyro Ice warhound’s scheme I realized 3 things: 1) I am not all that original in all honesty, just cleverly derivative. 2) Despite how I feel about my abilities, I am actually a reasonably experienced and skilled painter. I’m far from great but I have a decent grab bag of techniques and understanding of color theory that a beginner/unskilled painter wouldn’t. 3) Like many, I have a bit of imposter syndrome.
Still waiting on bases for Malifaux. Contemplating turning my own fancy wood bases/plinths. The Raicho is a thunder thigh’ed, lettuce (radicchio), monkey, samurai mecha. Still insane.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
I don’t make mistakes.

3 more heroes and Blackstone Fortress is done. Some of the bases I needed came in so over the next couple days I should get some bases done so a few more Malifaux minis will finally get finished.

1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M.
Unintelligible, just black primed boxes and blob.
Description: 2 large mausoleums, 3 small mausoleums, 6 sarcophagi all in MDF and John, I mean Niel Henry for Malifaux.
2) Overall goal for the year.
Blackstone Fortress is completed! At least untuil I get the expansions...
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+8 minis done (maggots count as 1/2 each) +a pile of terrain done.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings.
1 cubic foot of fake plants is a of a lot when it's not packed tight. Also I have a load of terrain to assemble.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
I has a 3ft square table of terrain!
Meer_Cat wrote: Congratulations on getting so much done! And yes, I am aware of the inverse packing proportion rule when dealing with artificial terrain.
Thanks Meer_Cat! I kind of wish I'd gotten a pic of the bathtub when I'd finished washing the "plants." It was... something.
I particularly like the Eldar Hunter from the Fortress set- very well executed, that.
She came together a lot more politely than I expected, luckily it seems that was great news!
Having your own gaming table definitely sets you apart from the ordinary herd of gamers and modelers, or at least from me, anyways.
TBH, my first thought was; No. I barely have A table.
And then I laid just the non-sci-fi stuff out and, well,
for the record, that's a 3ft X 4ft plywood sheet. My only glaring weakness is in vertical components.
So, there was supposed to be a post before this but it just never really happened. So frankenpost!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M.
Recently my painting desk has looked like this or been (as these now are) finished minis;
And some recent purchases requiring babble!
FINALLY! The 30mm bases I've been desperate for came in! They've all been finished and put into service already.
I may have a crippling weakness for clockwork/steam bots.
I luve my FLGS. Even when they are talking me into spending more than I planned.
2) One overall goal for the year;
My Morat Aggression force has officially changed from small side fun to part of The Goal.
Still totally going to fail 100% completion but whatever.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+17 minis and 2 more lots of terrain.
4) Finished pics.
Will post later.
Now? Pie.
Okay, it is now later, first up terrain:
And Malifaux, "Niel" *cough*John*cough* Henry;
Terracotta Warriors;
Magic Wind Weasel;
Thunder Archers;
Woku Raiders;
Finally, a disturbing take on a classic, EEK Vader and the ScaryGuard!
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
Did you read #4? Piiiieeee!!!
Okay, I have Pie'd.
Remember that terrain? I still have a lot to add to that. I have almost all my fake plants to turn into usable terrain, 4 Gothic shipping containers to finish, a small church thing to paint, topiary aminals to build & flock, hedges to cut from green scrubbies, playable-y solid stilts for "rickety" wood platforms to build, and I need to get some slightly taller pink foam to replace the hills with better ones.
The crazy part is that the replacement hills are probably the number one priority and the wild plants are a close second.
Not sure if you are aiming at a 'generalist' or 'specialist' gaming board- but some contour relief can be added fairly easily and cheaply by using the blue or pink foam board insulation, and Home Despot and Lowe's et al even sell smaller pieces than full 4x8 sheets, for patching and piecing in (or their on to us and know we hobbyists are buying it for our own nefarious purposes). I actually bought a 4x8 sheet once and broke it up in the parking lot to fit in my car- and that stuff breaks LOUD- I got lot of strange looks.
The archers are my favorite of this batch of photos- the colors are incredibly (at least to me) subtle and work very well with the Chinese/Asian theme. Great work!

That’s the plan! Just need to borrow the SUV one of these days.
I think the lazy pics are softening the blending on them because I know the highlighting is actually rather harsh drybrushing!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
As you may have noticed there’s some hellish burnout in those pics. Unfortunately my good camera is flaky to the point of unusable and my dad’s high end point and shoot has a dead battery and we’re missing its charger. The I-Whatsits aren’t bad but they just don’t do as well as a dedicated camera. I’m ordering a new charger.
So, I ran the numbers this morning. Today is day 254 of 365. I have 273 “minis” recorded as done for this year. Several of these are actually multiple small things (KT:RT GPI maggots) or dead simple things (mausoleums) being counted as one. Even if I don’t count the Gibbering Hordes models that I think may have actually been late December 2018 I’m still at 255.
The secret-ish 1 mini a day goal is actually still on track.
And my official goals?
52 unfinished, GellerPox Infected, Genestealer Cult, Battle for Zycanthus and Snowspeeder are all that’s left and with 111 days left that’s actually looking possible. I *MAY* even get my Legion Stormtroopers, current Morats, and the last couple lone characters of the BlackScar System (my 40k world) done.
I guess I should make an update and actually give you some fodder then shouldn’t I?
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Epirian Scarecrows from Maelstroms edge and Legion Stormtroopers are what’s actually on the bench right now, as for directly adjacent...
Lets see, Goliath truck, GPI flys and fleas, Genestealer Patriarch and Familiars, Star Wars Stormtroopers waiting for enough friends to make doing small detail work worthwhile, Epirians waiting on Scarecrows to play catch-up and scorched metal details for a mass washing, and 4 Starstriders waiting on tech-guys ninjas and dogs for another mass washing.
Oh, and reference models for the ‘Stealer Cult models.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Lets see... +15 finished sense the last update, 13 for the grand year-long goal. 14 more around 75% done, all part of the year-long goal. Finaly 8 more in the early slow slog stages, again all goal members. Hopefully I can get the Zombie Flesh green done on the Scarecrows tomorrow.
4) Finished pics
Airspeeder from Legion.
Oznats, AKA Infinity Psycho Murder Monkey Ladies.
Epirian Spiders from Maelstroms Edge.
And playing Sirs Not Apearings: 1 more Epirian Spider, 3 Epirian Fireflys, and 4 GPI big-guys.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
6 minis shy of one a day at the moment but I can probably fix that with... 2-3 hours of painting.
Painting has been consistent recently despite lack of updates. Really need to just try and post something every day or two.
0) Respond to feedback.
Nothing? What? Are ya scared of me? If so either y’all know me waaaay too well or hardly know me at all!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
How’s two days ago for ya? They’ve had some scorched metal and dark khaki added since.
Also, I had to go buy ANOTHER BROWN! for the tan bits on the dobermans. I just somehow could NOT mix up the right coppery tan with what I had.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Gellerpox done, Epirians done, and bonus Goliath done. Hopefully I can get the scorched metal done on the Starstriders done tonight.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+8 little griblies rounded out the Gellerpox, 2 Hunter Warmechs, 2 Scarecrows, 3 Epirian contractors, and a weapon emplacement for my Epirians and by extension Battle for Zycanthus, and the bonus Goliath mining vehicle "terrain piece."
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
Today’s update brought to you by waiting for my shift to start at work! Hmmm, that gives me an idea...
So apparently I lied about them Stormtroopers getting worked on. Oh well.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Maybe I should just start writing my updates on my brake at work...
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
The decks be swabbed in preparation for tha next battle!
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
The scurvy land breather may have made progress on ‘is goal but he ain’t thought far enough ahead tae know whot ‘es doin taday!
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Yarr, thar be 12 o’ them strange aether trawlers done! And that land breather has been WOOD WORKING!
4) Finished pics.
THAR BE NEAR A FULL CREW O’ THEM! AAARRRGH!
It gives me shivers tae see a noble beastie such as this shackled tae tree flesh! An’ nae just any tree flesh but tha kind thae harvest nuts from for building WALLS! Wall-nuts if ye prefer.
5) Ramblings,
This be Cap’n Sauce Beard, King o’ tha Sky Pirates savein’ tha’ filthy land breather’s hide!
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
*Yawn* Hrm? ... okay, I guess a civic minded sk, er, Sky Pirate decided to help me out.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Baracades from the Star Wars Legion starter finished, starting on my spare KT: RT Rogue trader and medic, and the plastic female Inquisitor tomorrow.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+2 for the generic and specific goals!
I’m counting the doors from KT: RT as 5 models but I want to do some more work on them and get more Necromunda Walls first so I’m doing the barricades and three ladies instead.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
I started intentionally listening to the band Glorryhammer today. They hurt my head. Beyond power metal the best description of their music I can come up with is 1st/2nd edition 40k style crazy awesome battles.
There’s a chaos wizard, goblins, time travel, an awesome hammer, and the hero Angus McFife involved in a war that’s especially fierce around Scotland. And I think Hootforce are good guys? Possibly lead by someone known as Hoot who may or may not be Angus McFife. I wasn’t listening to the songs in order and the official music videos are ... epic insanity.
It took me three much less crazy songs to even be able to start writing this update
Oh yeah, I also picked up my B-day present to myself yesterday, a few days early but I was down there anyway. Can you find it?
Oh I like it, I just needed time for the rocks in my skull to process it.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
The medic is marginally farther along at this point, but close enough!
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Today, get the medic blocked in.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+1 Inquisi-Lady done!
2 more and KT:RT will be considered “Done.”
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
Decisions, decisions. Sabaton “Heroes”, and “Last Stand” or Gloryhammer “Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards”, and “Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex”.
Your updates are a spetacular blend of progress and madness. Love all the BSF stuff, especially. Is that a Kir Kanos model further up the page next to Vader?
Your updates are a spetacular blend of progress and madness. Love all the BSF stuff, especially. Is that a Kir Kanos model further up the page next to Vader?
I’ll be honest, the crazy awesome of the Gloryhammer Saga is reaaaaaaly calling me right now.
Thanks! I wanted something different from the classic inquisitor and that would be a little more subdued.
Progress is always good! Madness is inevitable from me.
BSF is a lot of fun to paint. Haven’t played with anyone else but even solo I’m enjoying it... after a couple house rules. I don’t know if I missed something or my dice just hate me but RAW I found 1 combat encounter and you HAVE to return to the precipice otherwise grievous wounds not only snowball but make even considering another course suicide. Which means RAW Escalation feels impossible.
No Idea who Kir Kanos is, its just a stock Royal Guard Champion from the Imperial Assault line. That said there’s a good chance that they may have used Kir Kanos as inspiration.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
On to the GSC stragglers!
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Bed now, work on GSC tomorrow.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+2, spare (corrupted) medic, and “The Pink Terror”
Edit: Also today is the 293rd day of 2019. I have finished approximately 293 minis (several small and/or simple things have been grouped together) at this time.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
Holy weasels SquidBat! TWO updates in one day?
I may enjoy retina searing paint jobs just a little too much.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Ride far away across the mighty river Tay ... to the land of unicorns!
Hmm, the king of orange likes the orange one... Nah, I’m just being silly. Thanks, she was one of those where I started working and she clicked all of a sudden she was done!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Better lock down your pants, they’re coming!
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Once this lot are done I need more bases and/or another box of minis to continue on specified goals.
Tomorrow is skin reddening and strong tone on details.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Progress but nothing more done.
4) Finished pics.
NA
5) Ramblings,
Uhhh, I got nuthin.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Is it wrong I’m already planning my 2020 painting goals?
Lousy connection ate my post!
Quick version:
Day 300/365
303 minis done this year, currently owned and this year’s planned GSC purchases done.
Chaos and Tusken raiders on the table.
Had fun losing horribly in Malifaux tournament yesterday.
My FLGS is awesome and worth 90-100% of MSRP.
Now have all 7 basic Morat grunts.
youwashock wrote:Sweet Genestealers. The Magus and Patriarch are standouts for me.
Thank you! Glad the Magus came out well considering he felt like the deadweight from the kit to me. Hopefully I can replicate the success when I eventually break down and expand the Cult of Stolen Pants / The Tribe again and get the female magus!
Grenb wrote:So much variety in here! Those orange Cultists have got my attention.
Variety is the spice of life/Oooh-Shiny-itis.
I assume you’re talking about The Cult of the Dying Sun / Cult of the Eternal Cheese Puff that are currently on the bench.
But thinking about it... which orange cultists? I have... Chaos (Children of the Eight Stars) , BSF Escalation Chaos (TCotDS/CotECP), Nurgle Zombies (Rustpox Shamblers), Genestealer (CotSP/TT), and the argument could be made that the Ten Thunders from Malifaux are kind of cult-y.
And I now realize I’ve been painting mostly cults and/or gangs for the past couple years...
Also, I need to get back to working on writing out the fluff for my umpteen zillion home brews.
Briancj wrote:I have a lot of leftover GSC from turning all their vehicles into civilian ones.
Sir, don’t. You. DARE! Try and foist any of your backlog off on me!
Even if by some huge multi-year miracle I maintain this hellacious rate and DON’T buy more it will still be... at least 2-3 years before I’m anywhere NEAR clearing mine.
Lot of good stuff in here. I really love the Goliath truck, got a lot of tanks to paint and I’m nervous about vehicles and love the grimy scheme. It’s great watching the step by steps and seeing bow the colour blocking turns into finished minis!
I am also super impressed by the organisational aspect of this blog...super on top of it - no chaotic mind here

Mwahahaha! My lazy cheat has fooled you!
Initially I’d planned on putting more effort in on it but after the slog of getting it yellow and it sitting half finished, staring disapprovingly at me I said “:beep: it, slather on the AP Strong Tone ink and pray!”
The only reason anyone (especially me) can follow this blog is the organizational veneer!
Briancj wrote:I WILL DARE! Because everyone needs conversion bitz!
Note to self, NEVER give this maniac my address.
Actually, I want 10 or so of the Quad ATV rider torsos, those would be an amazing base for an Imperial Navy Breaching Team.
Sadly, I've only got the one, and they're not really available on the secondary market.
--B.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Loving the GSC! I hear you on the ATV rider torsos, some bits are pretty hard to get at times.
Yeah, that is a cool body. It sucks that the coolest bits are always the trickiest to procure.
So, I spent two days at work and recuperating from the tourney and then spent most of my day off cleaning and shifting most of my room around. Not much hobby-ing has happened. Today’s plan is more cleaning (booo!) and getting the cultists’ skin basecoated (yay.)
CommissarKhaine wrote: Nice progress. Maybe a clean hobby area led to the peace of mind you needed?
Unlikely, the desk was actually more of a mess after shifting stuff. More likely reason is FINALLY getting a good nights sleep.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
The cultists slowly progress...
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Tomorrow’s goal: grey on the cultists done and steel started.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+5 minis done, 308 for the year, day 305.
4) Finished pics.
Tusken raiders for Imperial Assault:
5) Ramblings,
Furnace is on the fritz and we had snow for halloween. Luckily we still have enough working space heaters from last time the furnace died I can have one for my room so paint doesn’t get too cold.
Unexpected advantage to recently re-doing how my room is set up: plenty of empty space around the heater so not only can I use it, I can leave it running.
Also seriously debating Infinity: Defiance. If there is a KS exclusive Morat I know I’ll succumb but right now it’s a tricky decision. I like 2 of the heroes, the robot assistants for two more, and almost all the enemies (24 of the 29) are tempting but they’re not my beautiful psycho murder space monkeys. And of course they wasted half the Morat expansion on impractical sculpts in metal that aren’t actually, you know, MORATS! Annoyingly another of the eight models in the expansion is the dang pin-up from the Morat starter that I already have. Of course it’s also in direct competition with all the Morats I don’t own and aren’t part of it. But unlike Infinity proper I’m WAY more likely to actually play it as it’s up to 4 player co-op vs AI rather than needing an opponent who would probably have to be from the group that meets at the FLGS on Saturdays twice a month, aka HAHAHAno. Retail/food service monkeys don’t get regular Saturdays off and make reasonable money.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I think I’m slowly talking myself into it.
youwashock wrote: That bantha is the bomb. Looks like a fun model to paint.
Eh, the whole group were really more an exercise in grinding them out quickly. Not tedious but not exactly fun either. At least the “centerpiece” model came out well!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Next on the block, Stormtroopers!
Built and primed the speederbikes and special weapons Stormtroopers a day or two ago, otherwise no real progress since they last appeared.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Sleep, gaming, maybe some painting. Not necessarily in that order.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Marginally closer to having my Legion starter done, nothing completely finished since last update but that’s due to extenuating circumstances.
4) Finished pics.
Well, not really finished but that’s only because I’m waiting on bases.
5) Ramblings,
I’ve made a Decision! I will be getting the KS edition Shasvastii starter army/ Beyond Beyond Wildfire known as Infinity: Defiance. For now just the core game and collector’s box level. Don’t need the terrain box, the revealed expansion isn’t worth 70€/$80ish to me, the Morat box is 4€ more than the components I want from it, and if I’m buying into the Onyx contact force I don’t want partial kits. Now, do I get Operation: Wildfire and Beyond Wildfire? Do I snag one of the 300pt Onyx Contact Force boxes the FLGS still has in stock?
The FLGS has had an Armorcast Warhound (built and primed, with some Imperial brass-etch additions) for only $150 the last few weeks. I keep looking at it and going, “that’s a really good price...” but then I remember I HATE painting titans, I don’t really like the look of it, and it should go to someone who will actually appreciate it. However ownership of one in good condition is kind of a status symbol so it continues to call.
youwashock wrote:You should buy that Titan. Cultists look good, if somewhat baseless.
Briancj wrote:As someone who owns one (two) you should totally buy it. $150 is a great price!
Should have made it clear I was mostly whining about the temptation.
For reference allow me to illustrate just how “oh NO!” of an idea that is.
An Armorcast Warhound to me: expensive old status symbol I don’t especially like the look of and will hate painting.
$150 spent right now: so many Infinity figures that will have a 50/50 chance of getting done within a year of arrival and I might actually use.
Suffering I’m willing to go through to paint a “too huge” sized mini, by ones I own;
“Bridge of Death”, “Riding the Cold Wind to Valhalla”, 54mm scale gryphon, and 5-toed Asian dragon; all solid pewter and big. They were my grandma’s until a few years ago when she decided she was never going to get to them so she passed them on to me. These are old Ral Partha era leaded beauties that have stood the test of time. I have a few more dragons I’m unlikely to do from her unpainted backlog.
Trollblood Mountain King; a gift from my “red headed step sibling that followed me home from school.”
Cthulhu, kraken, Marthangul (dragon), shipwreck golem, and Wyrmgear & Drakesprocket (clockwork dragon & drake); I really like the look of these.
2nd Cthulhu, 2-3 big and one MASIVE pewter dragon; for my parents.
Shubby, kaladrax, Zombicide dragon, landraider, and bonesium “Dragons don’t Share” diorama; I already have them.
And I’m probably forgetting a couple from this list. None of these have been in my possession for less than a year and most are significantly older.
A pic of the ones it was easy to lay my hands on quickly:
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
3 Stormtroopers to be set aside until more 27mmX1.5mm bases are procured, big cobra wrapped around an egg to paint so that my Malifaux fey are “done”, and my Morat Vanguard Infantry are getting started.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Without spending more money my Legion starter is done for the moment. Today’s goal; snake basecoated and the 1st layer of the 1st color on my Morats.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+21 totally done. 329 done as of day 314, ahead by 15. Chaos cultists based.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
Once I get the Morats done I’ll probably use some of my buffer to do prep work.
Also, last time I went to the FLGS temptation of excessive foolishness had been removed, the Warhound had been sold.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Now, where am I going to put all these finished minis?
youwashock wrote:The Stormtroopers look great in that color. The cobra is highly intriguing. The RT bad-guys, too. Especially the two heavies.
Coming from you that means a lot! Luckily the Stormtroopers are also a lot easier when you’re not fighting white with black accents!
Flapjack wrote:You got some cool projects going on, I like your stars wars stuff. Darth vader looks great with those red robes.
I’ll be honest, I’d actually forgotten that I’d painted the (relatively) cannon Vader this year.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Lovely progress, and that cobra looks like a pretty cool model!
Thanks! Unfortunately for the poor cobra it had lousy rules in 2E and I’m not playing Neverborn in 3E.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
So, the Vanguard Infantry have been kicking my . The grey and steel each took almost 15 minutes per model and the slow progress made it feel like I wasn’t actually making progress.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Highlight the red back up and maybe the fabric on the Morats as well.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Not to mention painting the snake... Nice work!
Ha! I fooled you! The snake wasn't quite done as of the last update but that has been rectified!
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
I've spent the last couple days powering through a whole lot of prep-work. In preparation for 2020 (mostly) I've built; 15 Mantic Succubi, an Alt Misaki, Mary "Blacktounge" Bonnet, Nani and The Voice, my Shipwreck Golem, a metal Guild Guardian, 4 Gaslands Motorcycles, converted a buggy for Gaslands. Not pictured is minor work on my Wraithguard and blades, and fixing some Mantic Abysals awaiting paint.
2) Overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Until I order more Morats they're done so that's another thing off the list, tomorrow's goal: prep lots of 25mm bases for Abysals.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+8, 7 Morat Vanguard Infantry and the Gorar.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings,
I should get better pics of the M.V.I. But I just don't feel like it A.T.M.
Also, I hate buying music digitally. From here on out I'm getting CDs or legaly DRM free mp3s. This is the... 5th+ time I've had to fix music I got through Itunes on my phone.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Well, the snake is finished now, still loving it! . Shipwreck golem is looking like it'll be fun to paint!
youwashock wrote:Neat stuff coming up. Very interested to see how the Succubi and Golem turn out.
Sorry, Shipwreck will probably be waiting until 2020, and once I finish the current Abyssal group I'm probably going to do a unit of Skellies and/or Zeds.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Today's initial plan was shot to , see below for details, but I might make a start on the grey on the current batch of Abyssals tonight.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Counting the 27 Lesser Abyssals I finished off as +2 done. As a group they only had a couple hours work on them this year as they were... 90% done when burn out or project ADD hit them previously.
All the bases I need for my Abyssal army are also done, built Gaslands vehicles are primed, and rough planing for the next few projects is in place.
Brings the total to 339 done as of day 335. (+4, I haven't totally blown my buffer!)
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
So when I got up this morning I figured I'd get some work done on my remaining Lower Abyssals and throw something on the lathe and do some wood turning today, and hopefully get my eye back so I can make a couple pens for X-Mass (I'm a shameless heathen, X-mass is more appropriate terminology than Christmas for me).
I got the red onto the Abyssals, had breakfast and headed to the basement. I knew it was a mess. I had put some more of my lumber down there just the day before.
I. Could. NOT. Work down there, I didn't even get close to grabbing any of my stock before the switch flipped in my brain.
Now I have a relatively short temper. I have it mostly under control but every so often once I cool down I have to give the pups scritchies and let them know I wasn't yelling at them... specifically. They EARNED and regularly renew the title of Trouble Twerps. However sometimes the anger/frustration/whatever doesn't become semi-coherent yelling. Instead, . Gets. DONE. Typically this is cleaning. Like today.
The workshop side of the basement is now almost completely usable, my dad got shanghaied into assisting (considering ½ the mess was his and another 1/4-1/3rd was my mom's...), my dad and I both had rather productive days, just not the way we expected, and my mom made a late Thanksgiving meal.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Boop. Early shift tomorrow... maybe I'll just go to bed early.
Sooo, I dropped “I don’t want to talk about it” dollars on wood turning supplies today.
Good news is I’m confident I can make the X-Mass gifts and have a (literally) shiny new olive wood pen.
Bad news:
1) I kind of need to make the 13 pens, 4 pencils, 4 stitch rippers, and 2 bottle openers I have hardware for. Then I should attempt to sell the ones I’m not giving as gifts.
2) No spare money for a while so no buying new toys.
3) I can’t even show off my new pen until I can sneak it into a shot I can upload to the Dakka gallery.
4) To make my wishlist mentally accessible to grandparents and indirectly support the FLGS there weren’t any minis on it so I probably won’t have anything I can finagle into a relevant update for a while.
5) I STILL don’t have everything I need to make gifts! Somehow, yellow, I’m sorry “maize”, is still being a .
6) Due to all this I’m probably going to go radio silent until pretty close to the new year.
So if you don’t see anything from me for a while now you’ll know why!
youwashock wrote: It has the lines of a Batmobile of some sort. I like the grittiness. What is the tuning fork bit coming out of the windshield?
Got it in one! Best I can tell it’s a custom design for Hotwheels based on the classic animated version.
The grittiness is 10% intended 90% happy byproduct of dry brushing.
The “tuning fork” was meant to be twin light machine guns but based on the “official” add on sprues I guess it’s the passenger’s long barreled pistols. In my defense the entire thing is only about 2.5 inches long and only the second Gaslands car I converted.
Sooo, I’ve been wanting to build a Gundam kit for a few months now but only source off the top of my head would have been a bit of a haul. As I was X-Mass shopping at Barnes and Nobles yesterday I saw the Gundam kits they had and came close to knocking myself out with a facepalm. 15-ish dollars later and a new toy followed me home.
I present the Mercenary Unit “Charlie Foxtrot”, you don’t call it it in unless you’ve already got one on your hands.
Apparently a 1/144 scale WMS-03 Maganac Mobile Suit, I gave it a custom paint job with no regard to canon.

2) One overall goal for the year, otherwise only “hoping to ___ later today” goals.
Today? Rest on my laurels. Tomorrow? Begin attempting a repeat performance of the insanity.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
Lets look back at my stated goals:
My goal for the year is to finish any new “The Other Side” models I get,
Yazari and speckled crawlers were purchased and they are all done. 100%
my Chaos and Genestealer cults, KillTeam: Rogue Trader, Battle for Zycanthus,
Check, check, check, and check, 100% on those four.
Blackstone Fortress, and Star Wars stormtroopers.
Sooo close! But wait a minute! the initial goal was core box Blackstone Fortress, and the Imperial Assault Stormtroopers only, ha HA! technically 100% success as well!
So 2019 was technically a full success.
Earlier today I finished my last 21 Lower Abyssals. Bringing the total number (and final count) too:
367!!! minis done this year! 2 more than my semi-stated goal of 365 for 1 a day.
I was also attempting to reduce my backlog, there were 127 minis and 58 Hotwheels bought in 2019 not counting gifts, which were less than another 50 all together. So worst case I finished 130 more than I got.
Now my Blackstone Fortress, and Star Wars stormtroopers goal did expand through the year with the purchase of the Legion starter and BSF; Escalation. Also my burgeoning Morat force and Ten Thunders were added to my goals. Final results: close but not quite, and I've got good excuses for most of the failures!
The 5 BSF explorers, 3 Legion Stormtroopers, 2 Morats, and 2 Ten Thunders models that are unfinished. Just haven't felt like doing the explorers but the Stormtroopers and Morats are waiting until I can afford to place a couple of large-ish orders and the Ten Thunders models are either unnecessary duplication (I have a painted Misaki already) or useless in my current crews.
4) Finished pics.
5) Ramblings, including product opinions, fluff, techniques, and whatever I want to rant about.
Wow, this plog also slipped me by, what an impressive output over one year Will definitely be following this now, if only to steal inspiration for Gaslands vehicles
Viterbi wrote: Wow, this plog also slipped me by, what an impressive output over one year Will definitely be following this now, if only to steal inspiration for Gaslands vehicles
Not hard for me to have slipped under your radar for a while! I averaged a little under 2 updates a month last year which leads to somewhat extended periods of radio silence.
As for inspiration, steal away! Most of the time I’m copying an idea I saw elsewhere on Dakka or from the manufacturer!

5) Ramblings,
Currently hoping for 32 minis “done” in January. The puma armored car, 6 Abyssals, and a bonesium dragon are the current plan once I finish this round of skeletons. I’m figuring about a week each for the Abyssals and Dragon with the puma getting a minute or two here and there in between steps.
Hopefully it’s just everyone is in the same boat as me and just can’t think of anything more than “cool” or “neat” or similar so Lurkers gunna Lurk.
1) Picture of the painting desk A.T.M. unless absolutely no progress.
Change of plans, this:
Is a rather large mass of purple(-ish) so rather than breaking up purple with purple or bone and purple I’m doing not purple in the form of a peasant militia. All 4 of the official guard types had at least part of their weaponry replaced with hard plastic. Swordsman got a new blade (with an actual tang!) from styrene, the “bows” of the crossbowman are the ends of a plain bow, the spearman and archer had their weapons completely replaced with spares from Wargames Factory Skeletons (now sold by... Warlord?) and I even added an arrow (With fletching!) to the archer.
No, I’m not insane, what could have given you that idea? I mean seriously, its not like I gave the archer a bowstring!

After the apocalypse keeping a Bradley, much less an Abrams, running is nigh on impossible. Reproductions of WWII armor are a lot more forgiving and as a bonus stealing it often has the bonus of getting to take out a few Neo-nazis!
Obcenety cencored for innocent eyes. But seriously F NAZIS!
Well then, yesterday’s work should be right up your alley!
Color wise he wound up either side of what I was aiming for but I’m still happy with how he’s progressing. I think I’m down to eyes, mouth, stones, and bone bits.

Since my last update:
Spent some time with my redheaded step sibling what followed me home from school one day.
Low stakes silly friendly "fighting" with them over who's buying what at the FLGS because we needed to get each other presents.
Having trouble recently even getting my d a out of bed for anything but work. Not sure why at this point, I'm over the flu. Hopefully early-ish alarms will help.
Remembering I REALLY need to browse Dakka on the full computer, the pictures are naturally much larger than on the Iphone.
Watched The Witcher on Netflix.
Witcher review:
Spoiler:
Enjoyable enough, pay attention though. The story is 3 semi-nonlinear parts that meet up at various points and you can get several episodes in before it becomes apparent. Basically each of the three main plot-lines are 100% linear it's just rather than doing it 100% linear and having to suddenly sideline characters for 1-2 episodes it's set up so everyone usually gets some screen-time in each episode.
Fair warning, sooo many utterings of F (often funny to me when Geralt drops it), gratuitous nudity and a couple "intimate" scenes. Mostly female toplessness, no full frontal. Personally if they showed off the guys' bare ... butts more/better without doing the same with the women I think it would be better and equitable. Bits that stick out in my memory for gratuity; dirty old straight male illusionist, power tripping amoral with mind control vs ALL the yokels, and "were not cable so we don't have to have discretion shots for *ahem.*" Not really enough to distract but don't let the kids watch it. Approximate US movie rating: R, that said if your under 18 (or your local age of "adult") I would say, NO WATCHING!
Overall much better than I was expecting, but I was expecting a typical (AKA, really low quality) video game movie adaption brain twinkie (Enjoyable but negligible content mentally). I didn't learn it was a well regarded book first until I was about halfway through. Looking at it instead as just a tv show not an adaptation style that typically sucks I'd say it's solid. As a first season I think it's better than GoT. Can't compare to GoT as a whole however because I only got about half way through the first season before I gave up. Witcher has a much tighter focus than GoT in the first season which I think helped it personally.
I am GOING to buy the soundtrack album I heard would be happening. And not just for the rapidly approaching overplayed/referenced, but enjoyable, signature song.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
Toss a coin to your Witcher... *whistles off in to the night*
Thanks for the closeup, great work! But you do realize, that putting a dragon on a wooden base is a fire hazard?
And nice Delorian, excited to see, what you will do with it. May steal some of your ideas for my Gaslands cars, if I ever start with them in the near future
That dragon turned into a great display piece. Mushroom Queen is exciting to see. I have her on the desk, too. She looks like she will be a fungal to paint.
Viterbi wrote:Thanks for the closeup, great work! But you do realize, that putting a dragon on a wooden base is a fire hazard?
No problem! To be honest, the “closeup” is really just one of the full pictures cropped way down.
And did you SEE that toxic green maw? It’s probably easier to burn ice than whatever he spews! Now pitting from acid damage...
And nice Delorian, excited to see, what you will do with it. May steal some of your ideas for my Gaslands cars, if I ever start with them in the near future
Other than snagging one the Delorian isn’t anything special for build, I just pulled the tiny hidden wheels and slapped a set of machine guns on top!
Feel free to steal away! If you have any questions about how I did something or where I found a bit feel free to ask!
youwashock wrote:That dragon turned into a great display piece. Mushroom Queen is exciting to see. I have her on the desk, too. She looks like she will be a fungal to paint.
Thank you! He’s the culmination of... over a decade of WANT.
I was on the fence about the Shroom Queen until something in the back of my head squeaked; “Marble statue with fungal growths!” And all of a sudden she HAD to come home with me.
... and most of that paragraph could be taken wrong.
Ow. Please get a meatspace friend of yours to Gibbs slap you for that pun.

Once again I was weak, 5 more Hotwheels (Really self? WTF?) the CW Legion starter and B1 Expantion pack have been bought. My greatest nemesis struck again!
And once again I have insufficient bases of the appropriate sizes in the style I want. My second greatest old nemesis. Grrr.
I should *probably* explain the whole Carolean Driod thing shouldn't I? Basically I have fluff thought up for a respectable chunk of my minis and the references are all over the place.
Now lets see if I can find that fluff...
Here we go! Freshly ripped straight from my previous blog with NO reformating. Me in normal text and my Daemonic Muse, AKA harmless? insanity in Green. DMR=Dead Moon Raiders, a semi-piratical, semi-mercenary, completely loony group of criminals operating in the unfasionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy so far out they're in fact just barely IN the outer limits of the outer rim in the Star Wars universe during the post GCW/pre-First Order era.
It's... a bit weird:
Spoiler:
You ever heard of a band called Sabaton?
Maybe? What's that got to do with anything? They've got an album, Carolus Rex, named after King Charles the 12th of Sweden So? I'm weird and was listening to it today.
And? Meet the Caroleans, Carolus Rex, Meg Tanner (previously appearing), and their guards.
... Is that the Swedish flag on the droids? Yes it is!
Why? A very good question!
DMR ASSETS:
_DROIDS:
__PROTOCOL: 1
__ASTROMECH: SEVERAL
__PROBE: 3
___VIPER CLASS:3
____CAROLUS REX: Refurbished by Meg Tanner the programming installed in this droid was highly corrupted creating delusions of grandeur. No attempt has been made to correct them despite it declaring itself ruler of a sovereign nation that doesn't exist and claiming Meg Tanner as its co-ruler.
____GUARDSMAN ERIK: Runing a copy of the Carolus Rex program modified for subservience to Meg Tanner and the Carolus Rex unit. Currently seeking spouse willing to accept its glorious service to the "Kingdom of Sweden." 54 attempts at wooing, 67 denials.
____GUARDSMAN HEIDI: Running a modification of the Guardsman Erik Program with the brashness toned down and romantic inclinations removed. Currently seeking new territory to claim for the "Kingdom of Sweden." FOR THE GLORY OF CAROLUS REX AND LADY TANNER!
And that's not crazy enough. A recent report regarding the DMR and the natively inhabited world they're operating from:
BEGIN TRANSITION:
What. The. REDACTED?
Apparently this REDACTED REDACTED ball of dirt WASN'T recently contacted by the galaxy at large! Oh and for extra fun, this ISN'T the first REDACTED time that anti-Republic forces have hidden there! While searching for the DMR, or in other words the REDACTED "MILITARY ADVISORS" those REDACTED locals hired they found a cache of deactivated Separatist Droids! And what did they do? Not destroy them, not leave them alone, not put them to use, they did the REDACTED thing they could! They hauled them out and GAVE THEM to the DMR! As a GIFT! And of course the DMR weren't so REDACTED as to just activate them. No, that would be too SANE! They were handed over to that mad woman of a mechanic they have. WHO PROMPTLY MADE THEM INTO AUXILIARIES FOR THAT HEAD DROID-ROTTED PROBE DROID! You know the one, calls itself Carolus Rex and thinks its a king! Now it's celebrating, AND I QUOTE; "this fine battalion of soldiers raised from the hearty common-folk."
Please take me off this REDACTED insane assignment!
END TRANSITION.
6) Graceful, polished, and witty ending.
... The poor analyst has had to deal with one insanity after another in researching the DMR.
My Carolean B1s are blue, the Droidekas are primed and 3 basic B1s have been given yellow accents.
Talking with my mom this afternoon I found out amongst the European Mutt on her side we’re either Finns or Swedes depending on which of my ancestors you asked. Therefore the Carolean Droids may be getting Finnish Auxiliaries...
Briancj wrote: If they're Finnish Auxiliaries, that means you'd have to, you know, actually finish the project...

Ah, but these are NOT the Finnish Auxiliary, these are the core of my army of droids sworn to bring glory to their king, Carolus Rex, and their homeland, Sweden! Or Carolean Droids for short.
The Finnish Auxiliary are going to be B2s, and the Commando Droids are going to be Proto-Neo-Varangian Guard. Each commando droid will be a different “nationality” starting with the Scandinavian countries and expanding into the Nordics as necessary.

5) Ramblings,
There was much thinky brain at work today. Results; my Clone Troopers are... mentally done? Like I know almost exactly how I’m going to paint them. One squad will be punk/rave black and neon, the second will be Turisas inspired (blood and ash markings) and the Phase 1 Specialists expansion box is going to be Powerwolf inspired (corpse paint and Victorian gothic preacher style) and the last are the only paintjob I have any doubts about how to pull off.
Also, I really wish people in the News & Rumors / Discussions / Painting and Modeling subforums would use the Dakka gallery and the RECOMMENDED sizes! These giant pics either make text illegible or are so huge I can’t see more than about 5% at a time on my usual devices! Or at least put them in a spoiler!

Eh, more forgivable there. Also, I just needed to vent.
And a better pic of the first of my Nautical Pirates, The Wayward Mariner, Mary “Blacktongue” Bonnet, ARRRchie, and The Salty Seadevil.
Sooo, 2 weeks later and I’ve barely touched a brush until today. First my sleep schedule got WAAAY out of wack for a week resulting in being gibbering loon or zombie with negligible periods of functional during my free time. Meanwhile I’ve spent the last week picking up loads of extra hours at work, mentally face palming at the panic shoppers, trying not to laugh my off at the sorry state of the shelves, and being rather chill about the coronavirus. I work in the deli of a grocery store so luckily most customers realize I am barely cognizant of the existence of the store beyond our display case, never mind the state it’s in. Also, most of the customers getting stuff from the deli overall seem to be more rational so they’re stocking up more than usual so they can avoid going out but not trying to suddenly buy 6 months of supplies.
Back on topic for the forum as a whole; About half the progress on these was done today. Yup.
And my excuse for buying the Phase 1 Clone Upgrade pack even though I didn’t NEED them by any stretch of the imagination is I’m helping out my FLGS/small business I actually frequent during the inevitable sales slump caused by the partial quarantine.
So yeah, Coronavirus is a thing and take precautions but let’s try and be calm and rational about okay?

Ah the glory of the three foot rule! I probably did put more effort in than most prepaints but I KNOW there’s plenty of small mistakes I’d never accept if these weren’t terrain! Don’t know why but I just do not like painting terrain.
The lower left clone trooper looks very Spawn-esque around the face, intentional or happy coincidence?
Accidental, painted him, looked at him and went “I’ve seen that face before... ahhh boop, it’s Spawn isn’t it? Yup. It is.”

Last year’s leftover Morats are on the table.
... and so are 4 newbies.
And 4 more are waiting in the wings. For the Morat sectoral.
3) Simple clear record of progress on goal.
+ 20 zeds needing dipping!
I really need to get my butt in gear and dip!
+ too many Infinity added to the pile!
4) Finished pics.
Eh he he, not really gotten anything actually finished recently.
5) Ramblings,
So I really wanted to get back to work on my Morats so I ordered the 2nd Sogarat so I could do them together, the Raicho Pilot so it would be 100%, the next unit for them and a couple random things to get me free shipping.
A couple days later I found out the FLGS is doing curbside pickup during the shutdown.
I HAD to support my kick FLGS. I had to!
So for infinity I now own/have on order ... a likely bad list’s worth of Haqqislam, a small O-12 army, a likely okay Yu Jing army, a starter Sygmaa er “Spiral Corp” list, and a Combined Army which could probably be broken into Shivastii and Morat armies without noticeably weakening them.
Of the 69 new minis pictured I only 100% intended to get 25. Of 69.
The extra 44 were a grab bag the FLGS had. I blew $40 in hopes of getting something easily useable like this out of it:
A couple duds, a few decent sculpts, and maybe a hidden gem or two.
Instead I got this:
11 gems, including 4 Tachikoma style bots, and 2 mecha. So worth about 4x the cost in my opinion.
12 good ones I’d have actually considered buying. Again, I’d consider these worth about twice what I paid.
9 decent ones, not bad but I’ve no great love for them. They’d have been worth it alone.
8 decent that I’m giving to a friend and only 4 duds.
Everything 100% intact, only 2 joints assembled in the lot, and everything in good condition.
And if that’s not enough my family just got a laser cutter/engraver. 1ft X 2ft bed, precise enough to make friction fit base adapters. I’m already planning several things.
And the Necromancer’s fluff: (Y’all thought I’d forgotten didn’t ya?)
When the plague came we couldn’t keep up. The dead piling up, unburied, for the most part and of the few being buried only a handful getting proper rights. Then She showed up, a Priestess of Nekrawth.
It’s followers are odd folk, not exactly what you’d call living but sure as hell not dead. The chill and pallor of the dead in the shape of a healthy person. They won’t raise the dead for anything but they’re a bit too cozy with the grave, and what comes from it, if you catch my meaning. But for all their oddity decent folk, and apparently untouchable by the plague.
Her assistance was a godsend, every night a new mass grave and another few dozen laid to rest. It wasn’t pretty but it did the job. Soon enough headway was actually being made with the dead in the ground and not on the streets. We came to call her friend. When other gravediggers died she’d make sure there was a hole just for them. When our priest died she gave him a proper funeral despite her obvious exhaustion.
We didn’t know how she dealt with so many every night, beyond the clear fact some sort of magic was involved, and at the time didn’t care.
We really ought to have been concerned.
We’d finally gotten over our unease at her and asked her to become our new priestess. We were overjoyed when she accepted.
That night our city burned.
They came at midnight, a tide of undead. She stood on a hill just outside the city, surrounded by necromancers. The dead she had buried all rose. She knew everything about us. She guided the necromancers to us. And somehow she hadn’t betrayed her god...
I don't know a lot of these sculpts but they are nice to see. Loving the variety of unusual skintones on this page from oversatured colour to metallic. Some of those unpainted metal models look very interesting & promising for future updates!
Historic tank & monsters from the top of the page look like fun. I'd love to have a few of those in my collection to drop down during a DnD game.
Thanks for sharing mate, hope you are doing well through all the crazy and keep up the great hobby work!
youwashock wrote:The golem makes a surprisingly good Colossus. Welcome back!
Thanks! The moment I got it in hand it was obvious he had to become Colossus.

There's actually been a lot of hidden plugging along:
Just a couple Primaris for my Frost Wyrm space marine chapter.
Yeaaah, I do have a tendencey to do inhuman skin. Still none of the really interesting metals but some of them are on the table! Along with Crossbones.
If there's any specific thing you'd like to know the providence of I should be able to tell you.
And today's completion, Killmonger:
I decided his tactical panther is actually a creation of Shuri's.
Consistent, regular, predictable updates. Yup, totally do that. Uh huh. Nooo periods of radio silence then spam. I'd NEVER do that.
...
Ok, semi-serious now. I've been trying to finish what I buy promptly and 1 "old" mini for every new mini I buy since starting Crisis Protocol. Essentially 1 in, 2 out
Current results; 15 bought : 27 done
I just bought 3 of those today and only 6 of the new minis are done.
Now for pics, first up last times WIPs;
Done and previously unseen;
Bases only;
Sooo close to joining a bulk basing group;
And what was on the workbench as of a few hours ago;
youwashock wrote: The Crisis Protocol minis are looking great. Ultron is awesome, as is the stack of cups on Red Skull's base.
Thanks Youwashock, Ultron wasn’t quite finished last time but now he’s done except for the base. The cups, bottles, and crunched cans that come on the base sprues for Crisis Protocol are definitely great little extras and the incongruity of the stack of cups surviving a super fight amused me too much not to do it. Red Skull got it because I knew I needed SOMETHING to get me to paint the unrepentant nazi .
PICTURE TIME! Ultron minus his base:
And what’ll be worked on today:
Infinity HazMat spokeswoman HVT and Fe Dude for gold & ink, Frost Wyrm “servitors” and Techmarine Whittiker, and detailing Major Carol Danvers and Medieval Wonder Woman
Yey, iza new year. Still, I suspect most of us would be content to have the majority of 2020 stricken from the record.
Real simple goal this year: a bit of painting or gaming every day.
Day 1 of too many: Red basecoated on the Zerats. Considering I was only hoping to get their knee and shin plates done I’m already ahead.
Other, and I’m using the term very loosely, “news.”
Going to try (haHAha) to not get too many more minis than I finish.
I have succumbed to Magic: The Fleecing. Not Blue or White.
Current shopping list: Yaogat box, Onyx Contact Force sectoral minus Rodoks, Combined Army Avatar, Shasvastii Jayth units, Grunts, and Sphinx resculpt, Marvel Crisis Protocol Loki/Hel, Angela/Enchantress, Magneto/Toad, Storm/Whatshisname(Cyclops), Miles/Gwen, and of course Deadpool/Bob/taco truck.
CommissarKhaine wrote: Interesting models, and keep it up on the new year's resolution! That spidey is looking solid, curious to see how Venom and T'challa will turn out.
Thanks CommissarKhaine! T’Chala himself is actually done. Once Venom is done I’ll do the bases on the, at that point, 8 Marvel characters waiting for that step before going on to the next batch. Probably the kick women of Wakanda and non-Peter Parker Spideys.
Today I attacked my room some, re-organized my Magic after yesterday’s edumacashun (several hours worth), harvested bits, finished Venom’s white patches, and began on my Kurgat’s steel.
Almost half a week in and I haven’t failed my goal yet! Better yet, I’ve been doing more than the absolute minimum! Last of my Morats have been ordered by the FLGS now that their suppliers got them back in stock. Hopefully I can finish the Kurgats, Zerats, and Treitak Anyat before they arrive so it’ll be 6 done vs 4 bought.
Great progress mate! Even if your posting is inconsistent (something I am also guilty of ) your workrate seems to be really impressive behind the scenes.
Really enjoying your work with coloured metallics.

Really enjoying your work with coloured metallics.
Kicking goals so far - keep it up!
Work rate can also be rather inconsistent as well. I barely touched a paintbrush in December from either exhaustion, lack of inspiration, or just being overwhelmed.
Colored metallics are fun, especially when its just simple steel or brass with artist inks for a candy/jelly finish to them.
And the goal continues to chug along; Kurgat steel finished, fieldgrey touched up, and dark stone grey started. Extra steel applied to multimelta “servitor” and Venom ready for basing.
Nice progress on the batch and congrats on making time to plan & play! Those opportunities seem to be few and far between all too often.
Venom turned out really nicely - and the flesh on the dude next to him has some nice depth to it too.
Good stuff!
I need to make good time on the current batch, the next is due any day now! Luckily when it comes to gaming my family is rather geeky so I can get game night off by claiming family time with work.
I’m quite happy with Venom, nothing fancy but Marvel gave him a striking look and has his design nailed down perfectly.
Murderous schedule between yesterday and today. Started stupor-zero bases, took a nap, did a closing shift, had way too short of a time off, did an opening shift, and had family gaming. I am now a pumpkin.
Day 15 of 365, two weeks and/or half a month down.
CommissarKhaine wrote: Congrats on ascending to a state of pumpkin . Models are looking good!
Is it really ascending if I’m usually an animate creature but am temporarily a lobotomized gourd?
And thank you! Always good I’m not going too crazy in my estimation of my work.
By my rules it’s still the 15th even though I didn’t pick up a brush until after midnight! Worked on bases, “servitor” backpack steel, and priming Dire Foe spares.
I will be the first to admit this year’s updates have a strong element of “spot the difference” but usually there’s at least some identifiable change. Today? Not so much. Spent most of the day with family and only did a minuscule amount of painting. The second coat of khaki is important and highly necessary but interesting it ain’t. For anyone. Hopefully I can get more done tomorrow.
Between slug-ing it up this morning and forearm pain when gripping at work I didn’t think I was going to do anything today. Yay for painkillers and being able to take it easy at work tonight. Kryptonite done, bases just need their clean black edges done now.
