Any Europeans ordered from the GW online store since Brexit? How did it go? @ 2021/01/18 13:03:07

Post by: Da Boss

I have been slowly talking myself into a box of Kroot and some Kroot Hounds for a couple of days but they are online only.

My local GW is closed, likely for a couple more months, so I figured I could try ordering from the GW website.

Anyone know if they hold stock centrally in the UK, or if they have warehouses on the continent to ship from?

Anyone ordered from there? Did you have to pay extra VAT or have it end up in customs?

GW did say they’d cover fees and that for the time being. Dunno if that helps though.

I'm not hugely fussed about the fees, though it is nice of them to do that. I am more worried about my stuff being nabbed by customs and having to drive out to the customs place on short notice to pick it up.

I think right now everything is a mess at all ends. So it might be that even going through the same store you might get different experiences in different countries and also even within the same country as a firm perhaps learns how to better use the system or something changes etc...

What tax you do and don't pay appears to be in a big confusing bubble right now. It might be easier to wait a month or two before doing any direct ordering from the UK if you can just to let things settle. Otherwise you might wind up playing VATs twice or charges that you don't need to pay etc..

I suspect the same will be true for personal parcels and all.

Have you considered ordering from Fantasywelt? They do offer GW's online only items through web orders, even though they don't hold any stock of the ones you're looking for currently.

https://www.fantasywelt.de/Mailorder-Kroot-Jagdtrupp

https://www.fantasywelt.de/Mailorder-Kroothunde-des-Sternenreichs-der-Tau

I've only ever ordered mail order only items they had in stock, but as far as I know these are restocked frequently and fairly quickly as long as GW actually has stock to send out.

Usual caveat in these times, I of course don't know about delays due to Covid or Brexit. But since it's a German store, what you buy there won't end up at customs.

That is a good suggestion, thank you! I will do that. Fantasywelt's stocking seems pretty erratic on certain items but at least I will know I will not be dealing with customs if I order from them!

If you find a local alternative with decent pricing, that is probably the best option indeed.

I am also wondering about the impacts of ordering from the UK, either from GW/FW or third-parties. I am currently trying to get a clear picture of possible additional costs. So far, I haven't got any fully satisfactory answer. Hence, I'm extremely interested getting feedback from people having recently ordered from both GW/FW and third parties in the UK for delivery within the EU, especially to Belgium (as that is where I live).

For those interested here is a link to the Q&A published on the EU Commission website: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/qanda_20_2532
My understanding reading the "Trade in Goods" section is that there are no tarifs levied (so import duties = 0) but all imports are subject to customs formalities and local VAT applies.

Our respective national postal services and other delivery companies (e.g. FedEx, DHL, ...) all have their specific cost schedules, best to check on a case-by-case basis. The customs processes will be quite similar.

For parcels delivered via Bpost (Belgium), you can check the following link https://www.bpost.be/en/receive-parcel/customs

There are typically three elements to take into account: (1) customs formalities + (2) VAT + (3) import duties

(1) customs formalities: typically a flat fee charged by the delivery company (e.g. national postal services, FedEx, DHL, ...) covering the paperwork but also the costs for the delivery company of paying upfront on your behalf the VAT and import duties to the tax authorities

(2) VAT: the VAT rate applicable to the type of goods you are importing, typically the normal rate is applied but some types of goods can benefit from a reduced rate, always best to check and have the corresponding tarif code to be explicitly indicated in the paperwork (e.g. books, antiquities, works of art, ... have reduced rates in some countries), if not mistaken the amount due is computed on both value of the goods and their shipping costs

(3) import duties: the applicable tarif, in the present case = 0 thanks to the UK - EU deal (or at least as I initially understood as there seems to be a caveat linked to rules of origin, impacts still unclear to me)

For Belgium, parcels delivered via Bpost will have no additional costs if the shipment's value is up to €22 (caveat: this exemption might be removed at some point in time), from €22 to €150, you'll pay €24 for customs formalities and VAT (normal rate is 21%), and with a shipment's value above €150, you'll pay €32 for customs formalities and both VAT (21%) and import duties.

For GW/FW, under Taxes and Charges - EU Shipments (https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Taxes-and-Charges), it is said that deliveries will be made under shipping terms delivery duty paid, which results in GW/FW covering VAT and import duties. I'm not sure this exempts you from paying costs for customs formalities. I received no clear answer on this. They basically said that if I were being charged any customs fees for an order I should let them know asap so they could pay them on my behalf and advised against paying them myself before letting them know. Not super clear imho.

Wayland Games also deliver under the DDP - Delivered Duties Paid method. They pointed me towards their information page on EU shipping (https://www.waylandgames.co.uk/content/182-eu-shipping-information) where they give some interesting explanations. I simulated a purchase, the prices reflected my local VAT so that is something I should not be asked to pay again but I'm still not sure about costs for customs formalities.

Element Games seems to have chosen another route. They charge you the UK price, inclusive of UK VAT (20%), and if you are charged local VAT by your local customs authorities, you can then submit proof of it and ask Element Games to reimburse you the amount of UK VAT, either on the paypal account or the credit card initially used for the purchase.

I think knowing the minimum costs for customs formalities is extremely relevant when ordering bits for conversions, as most are sent via Royal Mail and delivered by our respective national postal services.

There is a clear risk of double taxation with regards to VAT too if the price you pay is inclusive of UK VAT.

If you order now, prepare to wait for a long time for the items to ship.

I ordered from Forge World on 23rd of December, products were dispatched 15 days ago and I've still not received any notification about pickup from my local post office. Before Brexit, it only took about 7 days for my orders to arrive, now its already taken twice that long..

Very comprehensive! Man, that looks pretty complicated overall. Will probably put me off making purchases unless I can get them from an EU supplier.

I saw that Vanguard Games (that makes 6mm minis and space ships) are waiving the VAT for EU customers now, so that is good. Hopefully more suppliers will do that, as it seems like a less complex route and less likely to result in double charge.

There are a lot of good wargaming companies in the UK. Something like this could be a bit of a pain for them, I can imagine.

Not from the online store but from our local retailer and from a German internet retailer.
Both orders are on hold ...

That's just as likely Covid as Brexit, maybe more. I placed an order with a UK company for UK delivery on the 2nd. It was marked dispatched with a tracking number on the 5th. It arrived on the 16th. That's a process that normally takes 48 hours from dispatch at worst.

That remains to be seen. Biggest danger is for books and terrain manufactured in China. If they are from there imported to UK and from there sent to EU and don't meet rule of origin % tariff will be applied. IF sufficient amount is not done in UK then tariffs will apply(this incidentally means plenty of UK cars will be hit by tariffs despite the trade deal. They have quite a lot of parts from EU and Japan and even if EU parts were counted it would still not be enough).

Being produced in china does make amount done in UK in doubt...

GW did say they would cover those prices so that means it's GW's loss and they can get around by bringing them to EU store from china rather than UK(much like one bicycle part producing company needs to adjust their system so that all items produced in UK don't go first to Italy from where they are shipped. Now that results in extra fees and paper work when going back to UK for UK buyers...So company needs to adjust production system so that UK deliveries are fulfilled from UK in the first place)

With hauliers from EU starting to refuse to go to UK due to extra delays brexit has done(drivers are hardly motivated to go there when they are paid by the distance travelled so sitting in queues is unpaid time. And possibly even fined for exceeding your time limit while waiting for paperwork to go through...) so even if it's not yet brexit it will soon be. As is there's 25% of usual(non-peak) traffic of lorries between EU and UK ATM. Transport capacity isn't what it was last year.

I received one already. Here it was done through the post office and it works like this:
Package arrives at the customs->customs send a notification/package to the post office->post office sends a notification to you-> you pick it up and pay extra euros that the post office ‘handled’ the parcel from customs. Then they charge you 21% vat+4% duties from the price on thing you bought+shipping+handling fee. So you pretty much end up overpaying around 30%.
It’s absurd.

To clear things up with GW:
People buying webstore exclusives will have to pay extra customs/vat/whatever.
FLGS who order from GW are safe, because all the goods will be send to Germany and then sorted to EU countries from there. It will obviously take longer for orders to arrive. Maybe 2-3 weeks time for the first month, until they won’t find any holes in the system they can abuse.

That is exactly what I see as big danger also. I haven't looked into the details yet. A question I asked is if there is a way to identify the products actually made in China, so as to be able to gauge the risk before actually buying the stuff, no answer yet.

It seems your postal services have been extra zealous. I would suggest checking with them and getting in touch with GW customer services, provide them with a copy of the charges you had to pay for customs and ask them to have a look. As they send EU Shipments DDP, you should definitely not have been charged any additional VAT. With regards to duties, it might be related to the rules of origin point that I alluded to and that tneva82 expanded upon. Also, part of what you were charged is the handling fee for customs formalities (it can be heavy in percentage terms).

Was there a customs declaration form filled in by GW? What tarif codes did they mention? Which countries of origin were listed? When was the package sent? Was it after or before January the 1st? If sent before, there would be no customs declaration as it was not mandatory, also I read it should fall under the previous situation of intra-European free trade (if sent before January the 1st and received before April the 1st if not mistaken, I'll try to find it again).

I'm really interested in the details so as to gain a better understanding.

ATM books & terrain. More than that dont' think so. GW doesn't list where stuff comes from :(

At least Finland officials said if it's sent before 1.1.2021 it would be as it was before. Can't say anything about other countries though.

I have a 500 GBP kickstarter pledge held up in the mail from the UK since mid December. If the post won't honour that a package mailed before 1.1. still counts as internal EU shipping, I'll let it bounce and demand a refund. I'd feel too stupid paying the cost of a resin 3d printer in extra charges on a crate of resin minis.

The following link was posted elsewhere, question 7 deals with goods in transit at the pivot date of 31/12/2020 - 1/1/2021 and question 11 gives some more lights on import tariffs and rules of origin
https://www.accountancyeurope.eu/publications/vat-customs-duty-and-brexit-prepare-now/

and for those brave or fool enough here is a link to the 1449 pages of the Trade & Cooperation Agreement (I haven't looked into it yet):
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=uriserv:OJ.L_.2020.444.01.0014.01.ENG

Your kickstarter pledge could just be hold up due to too many packages to process. Have you enquired as to the reason it is being held up? I have had a few things held up by customs or applied the wrong VAT rates in the past and usually I was able to have things cleared and corrected once I provided additional information. Still, it can be a cumbersome and lengthy process. Fingers crossed for you to get it without trouble.

With regards to Element's choice, it is a big red flag for me, hence I'll avoid ordering from them (not that I ordered often from them anyway). I would have preferred if they had told me that EU customers would have to deal with customs on their side but that UK VAT was subtracted from their total before completing payment. That would have been cleaner.

It is actually printed on the boxes if not mistaken, but that would be quite cumbersome for us to have to check each and every packaging before ordering.

GW will be eating all VAT and customs fees, which is a big pro right now.

I've placed an order on the 3rd of January and another one on the 4th (go figure that a day later they get stuff back in stock!) and both will some day be delivered via UPS, bonus! Anything is better than Royal Fail's own fleet of men with vans, which under normal circumstances before the pandemic took six to eight weeks to deliver.

Now for the downside.. One order was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but due to the system being swamped, it hasn't arrived yesterday or today, so maybe tomorrow? The other one is still stuck in limbo somewhere at the border. While this is faster than Royal Fail, it looks like it will on average still take two to three weeks at the very least for a parcel to cross the Channel and reach you. :(

A friend is still waiting for a store pickup order from November and I am waiting for 3 orders placed between 25/12 and 1/1. None of them even shipped yet.

At this pace I almost regret not ordering recasts instead. The dice I bought from China took 6 work days to arrive while I am looking at over a month for my UK order. Who knew Sweden was so close to China.

Bought other stuff from the UK mid/late December and they arrived weeks ago. Just GW that is super slow.

Too hard to say what's fast/slow based on individual orders.

Just got a payment request from DPD customs for 21€ which I would guess is the 2% difference between UK VAT and Slovenian VAT. Fair enough.

It has now been over 30 days since Forge World UK declared my recent purchase as having been "Shipped". And still no flocking sign of the package!

I'm not ordering a thing from them or GW UK until this is sorted.

Anyone else gotten their stuff from the UK?

FWIW I've since bought stuff from ebay sellers residing in the UK, as well as some bits, and they have all arrived. Is GW somehow having trouble with their shipments?

It took my Trollandtoad order a month between dispatch and getting scanned for the first time on the continent in France, then it lay there another week before being put on a southbound truck. Gak be whack yo. In the meantime I'm discovering that German stores actually have larger catalogs and better stock levels than "biggest gaming store in Europe" Wayland or any other of the UK's big players.

Living in Norway and as such never having had access to EU marked at all, my experience is that if you order delivery to their store, everything will go fine. If you order to your home, you will get slapped with customs fees, and GW will not be helpful at all in resolving the issue.

One of the parcels has finally been cleared, after having been checked and processed four(!) times in three weeks.. so hopefully next week then?

Same here. Anything bought from the UK comes with custom formalities and anything that costs more than 135£ (approx 150 euro) also comes with VAT 21% to pay. Total extra fees is notified only when the item is received so there's no way to calculate it in anticipation, although an estimate is possible.

Even in the best case scenario minimum extra fees would be so high that buying from UK is basically to be avoided without second thoughts at the moment. Unless there's something you really want regardless the cost.

We may see that some of the non-EU companies who ship orders / KS rewards via the UK to the EU now may in the future look for a mainland EU location instead.

Still being bombarded by almost daily bogus shipping notifications from UPS. Contacting their customer services regarding this all has been very unhelpful and I'm not going to bother GW with something that is out of their hands right now.

It's not just over there. I got notice from my closest store here in the US no preorders on the upcoming Sigmar stuff. They have no idea when, or what, they might get. This is after no preorders but for the codex book for Death Guard & Dark Angels/Marines 40K releases. They are a moderately sized independent that usually carries the full GW line and usually has 6-12+ preorders for most things; more for major releases. Things are looking grim.

Not grim just snarled up - esp overseas; though Brexit is also snarling up shipments and things like models are lower priority over things like food and other perishables.

It's been a month since Brexit and we're still looking at multi-week delays, I hope it's not "the new normal" but I suspect it will be to some extent. Brexit raised trade barriers, that creates friction and slows down trade.

But you have deals replicating most of rules and requlations(apart from vat) to keep border open. If you didn't same paperwork and checks that are cripling uk trade to eu would be cripling swiss trade to eu and reverse.

So checks etc have to be done on your side. That's thing with deals for uk. If they want to make deals with countries that have deal with eu they run into having to follow relevant eu standards anyway.

It will improve slightly when companies get used to it but paperwork will be there to stay. Though on april things gets worse as some extra rules come into force(they got delayed to give time to prepare) and another hit coming july when uk implements controls on their border(atm apart from certain dangerous items uk has open border. Opening itself for fraud).

Though with 68% exports to eu gone for good there will be less queues for remaining so maybe that helps...

An acquaintance who runs a medium-sized clothing company just mentioned they are moving their main office to Europe to try and ease these new barriers to trade.

I wonder if GW are planning a similar move? I haven't seen figures on their trade with the EU but I suspect it's substantial. Recent stock market reports highlighted that the company relies heavily on small retailers (more than its own outlets) which means that the extra red tape will have a disproportionate impact.

Thanks for the summaries above which provide a pretty good explanation. It's much the same for Brits purchasing from Europe. A big hassle.

Gw has 2 options on easing sales to eu:

A) open up warehouse in europe, ship all to there well in advance, distribute from there. There still would be delay but that's getting stufff from uk to warehouse. Gw can reduce impact by sending stuff there early enough but if eu shops sells something fast enough they drain warehouse customers might notice it.
B) less likely open up entire production line as well. Gets rid of delays in border period. Would cost more to set up though.

I keep hearing mentions of eu warehouse gw is supposed to have but haven't found evidence and seeing store orders are hitting customs obviously not coming from that mystical warehouse. If no likely they will open up one. Weeks delays getting new items(dg codex still hasn't got here...) is no good for business and delays aren't going to dissapear in future.

AFAIK they closed all their European operations down about 8 or 9 years ago. They used to have a huge store in Duesseldorf that got closed in the downsizing.

It might be that they need to open something up again. I hope so anyway! I don't want a 5-6 week wait on every parcel.

Ddorf was a great place to be. I played several GTs there.

Our local retailer said that GW plans to open a base in the Netherlands.

Huh, if true, not a bad move, I can see them shipping in their products here and once the customs process has been streamlined, it should be peanuts to timely cover the rest of mainland EU like they did before.

My own local store has reopened in limited capacity and has made it clear that you can only get whatever he's got in stock at the moment. He has no clue as to when mail orders will open up again or when he can reorder stock for the store.

Two of my orders have now officially passed the one month in limbo period. UPS has put the delays on Brexit, COVID and the adverse weather going on right now around here and are "working hard to alleviate the backlog"

Netherland is one big winner of brexit. Amsterdam overtook london as financial center in europe and all sort of companies are taking advantage of good logistics(short distances to train/airport) and all of europe being close.

Could be worse options for gw distribution center.

I have several orders from GW and FW stuck in an UPS warehouse in Germany as well (ordering from France). My LGS hasn't received anything since the beginning of the year as well, I think.
OTOH, I got stuff from Wayland with reasonable delivery time twice since Brexit.

I'm gonna send FantasyWelt an email on Monday. That's two weeks after I ordered with no sign of any movement, so I figure it's not unreasonable just to check with them what the situation is.

Though I figure they are probably swamped with emails, so I might wait a bit longer. Since it is pretty predictable what the problems might be.

And with Corona meaning that many ports and sites can't operate staff at full capacity as normal; plus added on top vastly increased postal trade due to lockdowns and people avoiding shopping; plus post likely coming in the wrong way since the airports are basically not doing much freight right now so its all coming via shipping.

I suspect things like models just get pushed aside for perishables and the like which are, honestly, far more urgent that they get through the system faster.

Sorry Blackfang, I had read what you posted and then forgot!

Well, I hope it can get through the customs eventually. Must be on the German side, my experience is that they are not very helpful in general.

Edit: Just to say I don't buy at all that the disruptions are particularly Corona related. First, the disruptions only apply to the UK. Second, we had Corona in 2020 as well without these severe problems (not no problems but not like this). The situation changed in January and the reason is barriers to trade with the UK were raised due to the political choices of the UK.

GW shipped a miniature a while ago which was made to order, but as they are using UPS, it still haven't arrived. The shop here in Holland which sells at 15% off, is also still waiting until UPS delivers their stacks of goods from GW. They are all locked in a UPS transit hub for several weeks now. Appearantly UPS is in total chaos.

I cancelled my pre orders and ordered from Wayland Games. First order arrived in a few weeks, They use Hermes and they sent also DDP do no custom fees.

Second order underway, almost two weeks now, but looks like better delivery than GW, or even the Dutch stores.

The store does pay it, yes. But I find it not too bad. My last order was 100£ with a fee of 5£. You pay that for shipping at, for instance, Element and they don't send DDP so you pay taxes on top of that.

The prices of GW stuff have not changed from before the Brexit, so now you loose the free shipping at Wayland but don't need to worry about customs when ordering elsewhere with discounts. It takes a bit longer than before Brexit, but luckily not as long as UPS.

Uuh...wayland bakes price of vat difference to product price and depends on your vat is it less than uk price, same or more. For example finland vat is higher so product that costs 30 pound on gw store costs more for me. That is straight in wayland's product price...

In short they take uk price, remove 20% vat and applies your country. End result you pay same as if you paid yourself. It's just more convenient for you

Think it was about 6.6% or so compared to uk for me. Plus shipping fee as no more free shipping. Of course that's Depending on where you live. But still not saving any cash with ddp

Just to make clear if I understood correctly. What VAT Wayland uses when selling to Finland? Should be 20% I think if they are not registered for VAT to Finland (Limit is 35k€, but you can choose register with smaller amount).

I did an order to Wayland Jan 23th and it came Feb 1st (Arrived to Finland 29th Jan) . Consisted couple of paints, new Death Guard and Blood Angels codexes and Foetid Bloat Drone. No problems and that DDP worked fine. No free shipping anymore, but it only around 5€. Still cheaper than GW like 20%.

EDIT. Actually checked again my order and they did not take any shipping charges for that one. Now it seems to be around that 5-10€.

Hey, I think what you mean is an inter-european regulation, which was in force until UK left the EU. As a company, you have a certain limit of sales to any european country (varies! some are 35.000 €, some are 100.000 €) to private customers, until which you are using the VAT applicable in the country you´re located. If you sell more than this amount to private customers, the VAT of that european country is applied. Sales to corporate customers which are subject to VAT in their country were generally tax free.

Now, if you sell something to a customer to a third party country (Like from UK to Germany after Brexit), no VAT is applied in the country you sell. But person buying has to pay Einfuhrumsatzsteuer, which is basically the VAT in the country you live in. Plus extras for customs tariffs etc... Really, really, a great idea, this Brexit.

As of right now, not true. The only real difference between tracked and untracked is that you pay €15,- (or your local currency) extra for the ability to see a more detailed breakdown of what happens to your parcel.

Any Europeans ordered from the GW online store since Brexit? How did it go? @ 2021/02/16 17:19:12

Yeah the bonus with tracked is that you can at least see earlier when something has gone a strange way or got lost in the system. And for FW is also makes it easier because the customer can see exactly where there parcel is as can FW - its not like untracked where the parcel vanishes into the system and you have to wait for it to make it out again.

That said I do agree, right now there's no point paying extra for faster delivery, its just not happening for many stores. It's got better over the last few weeks, but we still have an overloaded under supported local and global system which will likely remain this way until the wrold gets a bit more back to normal.

From Facebook:

You've probably noticed, but these are challenging times for anyone trying to ship stuff from the UK into Europe. And, well, that's something we do quite a lot.

So, if you place an order on games-workshop.com from mainland Europe or Ireland, it might take a bit longer than usual to reach you. And if you visit your local Warhammer store or stockist, they might not have every new release on day one.

Rest assured, we're all working hard to get awesome Warhammer into our stores, our independent stockists, and your eager hands as soon as possible.

Thanks for bearing with us, and feel free to get in touch with any queries.
It's a bit of an understatement and a bit late at this point, but it's something?

In the comments mention has been made that well over 90% of all customs forms were either rejected due to improper filling in or because they got lost, anybody heard anything on that?

That's been common story on all business.

Surprising gw has been struct so badly though. They ship worldwide stuff so they have experience. It's the small business that have never had to bother with those that have it extra hard

GW is likely fine with the paperwork, which is where smaller stores might be having far more trouble. Thing is GW is sending big orders and that limits their options for couriers. In addition the whole system is overloaded and snarled up. Even if GW's paperwork is in order staff at processing centres are not all up to speed.

In addition a lot of freight that went by air is now going by land only; through systems overloaded and understaffed due to corona.

Shipments like models and non-essential non-perishable are likely being delayed far more than things like food and medical supplies and the like which have a limited shelf life and have to get through the system or they are lost.

And yes its a common story everywhere. Stuff is getting through but its snarled up and there's an element of luck if things get through fast or slow.

It'd make sense. Until last month, this "international" shipping didn't differ at all from shipping inside the country, and now there's a brand new procedure that no one has any experience with in the UK, cause it didn't exist until 01.01.2021. Even if your shipping center is used to shipping all over the globe, they probably have very little ideas about the procedures to follow for this particular market, cause it didn't even exist recently, and UK took forever to sign the deal and (to my understanding) the UK govt's "guidelines" for businesses dealing with Europe is to set up European hubs....not very helpful right now.

Who even knows, ours aren't required to identify themselves. I avoid them like the plague but when it can't be helped (Kickstarters) and I get a request for paperwork I just resend it every day to the customs general address and ignore all the responses saying I didn't sent the correct paperwork until by luck I hit someone with more than one brain cell bouncing in their skull like a Windows screen saver who invoices me for tax and lets the package through.

Yes I meant selling to consumers. Sales B2B is without VAT, is customer in EU (needs Vat number) or outside of it. Didn't remember to think this completely. Finnish VAT is basically added here of course(as part of customs). Situation I described was how it was before brexit.

I ordered something with standard shipping from GW directly last week. Regarding to my UPS tracking number it cleared the UK very fast, but is now stuck in the Herne UPS center. Planned delivery was yesterday, but I'll guess it will remain a bit longer in limbo. Apparently (based on some FB posts of the Kutami webstore) a lot of packages is waiting to go from there to their recipients. I'd gather that the other German webstores have the same problems. I have two open orders with Fantasywelt atm, but knew when I ordered, that I probably will have to wait some time for them.

Has been spat out in Dublin today though so all in all should have it about 3 weeks after ordering. Hermes tracking still seems to be unaware that they've done anything but receive it from Wayland

I used to work for an international retailer that used a lot of different shipping companies. Hermes delivery is as reliable (based on the amount of complaints received) as handing the pack to a random person at the gas station.

Guess who's been a naughty little boy and got a visit from Santa Slaanesh this morning.

So that pre-order I placed with Fantasywelt actually arrived on time (well, a day early, technically). Seems like they are able to get limited stock after all even if most of GW's kits are out of stock whenever I check (out of curiosity how things are going more than any need at the moment).

Does that mean initial stock of new releases may fare better than restocks? That things are getting better? That they use different suppliers for different types of orders? Who knows, but at least the situation is not entirely desolate. Just mostly.

I think GW has been sending out some parts of orders early to stores due to the slowdown of shipping. IT might be part of why the shifted to a 2 week system

yeah, local store received his (limited) contingent of Slaanesh stuff, while the DeathGuard has still not arrived

GW might now have figured out how to handle the situation but it will only affect future orders

Wayland Games shipped my Hedonites order this morning. It’s the first post brexit order I’ve made from them so it will be interesting to see how long delivery takes. Opted for Wayland as they are doing DDP whereas Element and Firestorm don’t seem to be? It’s a pity free shipping is gone but £4.92 flat rate is still pretty good and the double loyalty points for Valentines weekend will cover my next shipping charge.

I ordered Khagra’s Ravagers from GW direct it shipped on the 5th of February and reached Germany on the 10th it has just sat there since. It’s scheduled for delivery on the 23rd but I’ll believe it when I see it. If I’d known they’d use UPS for such a small order I would have waited and tacked it on to my Wayland order instead. You live and learn and it’s all very much trial and error at the moment.

Not only wayland is doing ddp thev remove british tax from price. Element you would get double taxed...

To here it's almost 10 pound shipping though so for about 80-90 pound order local flgs with 10% discount eeks out despite wayland 20% and pound conversion rate. Mujti hundred order would be different.

Hopefully the preorder put in tomorrow will be handled as swiftly as they supply their stores now, would be nice not having to funting wait ages for those books.

Kutami.de reports that they have started to receive their backlog from UPS but it's been well randomized by the customs process and needs sorting. Judging by their stock level indicators they've also started an aggressive restock campaign with almost every GW item now listed as about "20 copies on the way from the supplier"

It seems to me that UPS finally figured out how to classify GW items and should now breeze through any new orders, but there's still warehouses full of backlog.

Got my order from Wayland I ordered a week ago to Belgium. I used the DPD premium shipping EEA - certainly more expensive, but I didn't pay any extra on delivery and it was still kinda fast in comparison to others, I guess. It was more than 250 £. Still worth it with the change and the -20% price tag on Wayland.

GW seems to be figuring out how to do this. DG finally came, slaanesh came on time and one player here ordered stuff from forge on monday and it arrived today(which would have been pretty impressive even pre-brexit)...

Maybe worst is over at least straight from GW.

I hope you actually get them! I'll not be ordering from the UK like this again, at least for the next while. If it's not in stock, I'll just not order. The stuff I ordered a month ago is still not here.

Oh well. I am willing to wait another little while. I am disappointed though, because one of the things I ordered is now not available any more. I suspect it may never arrive.

UPS delivered my GW order that shipped on the 5th yesterday so 22 days. It had an expected delivery date of the 4th of March on the app and it wasn't even listed as out for delivery it just turned up at 8AM. The delivery date was rescheduled twice each time pushing it out a week, without notice and it updated the day after it was listed for (and missed) delivery.

Germany seems to be the bottle neck as it went from Germany to France to Ireland in 2 days but it spent 15 days in Germany. I was half expecting it to show up as retransiting the UK at some point but it looks like UPS shipped direct from France.

A friend ordered GW direct and got it delivered, here's what he found

1) GW charged him British VAT
2) he was charged Slovenian VAT (and handling of course) by customs
3) the included invoice was doctored as if he had not paid UK VAT

So the complete list of VAT-registered UK hobby companies that are not commiting tax fraud when selling to the EU is to my knowledge (and I've been very nosy about it):

Wayland, Warlord Games (full DDT)
North Star (removing UK VAT from price)

My friend will of course demand reimbursement for the roughly 30€he paid on his 80€ order considering GW's "guarantee" that they will cover all import costs.

I just checked the box mine was delivered in there's no invoice and no customs paperwork or details whatsoever no wonder it took so long to clear customs I'm actually surprised it did at all it probably only cleared as it's a small item. So it does look like GW aren't operating customs and VAT correctly despite what they said.

No special tape on the box either to denote that it has been opened and handled by customs?

And GW has removed tracked shipping from their store for all EU customers as well now it seems.

Nothing to indicate it was opened no it was sealed with brown tape and the address label is over that which has only 1 cut which I made. UPS removed their part of the delivery label so there may have been something on there but there's noting on the address label and no invoice in the box.

I have an order with Wayland Games that I placed at the start of Jan. It took them until the start of Feb to actually send it.
I was tracking the parcel and got a bit worried as the status hadn't changed for a while. I found a site that showed me more info and it said that delivery had been attempted twice (dear reader, it had not).
I sent WG an email asking them to check up, especially as I was worried that they had put the address in wrongly. I got a reply saying... yeah, we will check.
Today, the tracking site tells me the parcel is being returned to sender.... 2 damn months and it got within a 30 min drive of me... Hopefully the 2 emails I have sent this afternoon might get a reply soon enough to sort it out. I'll be super upset if they offer a refund as I got this order in before they changed the shipping t&c, so I won't be able to get the same models with the same price again.... grrrrrr...

Got two GW-packages on their way.

The first one was sent on the 28th of january, and has been stuck in Herne-Boernig, Germany since the 31st of january.

The second one was sent on the 6th of february, and has been stuck in Herne-Boernig, Germany since the 11th of february.

Have gotten several "false alarms" about pickup dates on both, which of course amount to nothing in the end.

Wonder if it's possible to cancel GW-orders post-despatch in the current chaos.

My local retailer has gotten most of the stuff I ordered in stock now, so if I could cancel my GW-order and order from them instead, I'd have the items by tomorrow...

That's no surprise. Your store's stock was likely shipped before your orders were in the GW system. Furthermore your store's stock might have come through in a bulk consignment whilst your stuff went through individually. The issue might also not be GW it could be the simple mechanics of customs at the UK end or even your local end.

I have been ordering from Dark Sphere for years but post Brexit they no longer ship to EU countries. Are there really no stores in the EU that can match their discount? The UK is full of stores that offer 25%-20% off GW-retail so I figured it would be easy to find a store within the EU that did the same but no.

Feels like I've looked everywhere, from Poland to Portugal.

I haven't seen any 20% to 25% discounts in the EU, no. I wonder if Dark Sphere will be able to keep that up with the smaller market available to it now? But perhaps the margins on EU sales were already low due to shipping?

Stock levels seem to be a bit of a problem for EU online shops too. Fantasy Welt is still out of stock on loads of items.

No sign of my order from the first of February either. Really hope it actually does arrive, I might shoot them another email to check the status, but I assume their shipment is still stuck in customs on the German side. Seems like a crazy long delay.

Most of the mainland EU online retailer market collapsed overnight after GW implemented the rule that they would only deliver to retailers who also had a brick and mortar store.

I've sent GW a polite email asking them if they know anything about what the feth is going on in Herne-Boernig at this point. I doubt I'll get an answer, but it beats trying to ask UPS, who simply tells me to have another look at the shipping info tomorrow. :|

I was expecting Dark Sphere to be among the first to resume EU-shipping but most of the others have and Dark Sphere still haven't. Like you I asumed they got a lot of international orders that made up for the low margin but perhaps that wasn't the case.

The stores here in Sweden are out of stock of a lot essentials too so my shopping list have been growing for months now.

I've sent GW a polite email asking them if they know anything about what the feth is going on in Herne-Boernig at this point. I doubt I'll get an answer, but it beats trying to ask UPS, who simply tells me to have another look at the shipping info tomorrow. :|

Didn't realize that was still in effect but that would explain it. Though the UK stores still manage to offer great discounts.

Is Herne-Boernig where the big hold up is? I know of stores that have orders made in January still held up in Germany but newer orders have been coming through much faster.

https://games-island.eu/ has 20ish % off most GW and is trustworthy, been buying Magic there for years. But there's no such thing as free shipping on the continent.

I can't say I blame anyone for not exporting since Brexit. I just tried to work out how to ship a laptop charger to someone in Ireland for work, and now have a massive headache from trawling through gak like this:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/classifying-computers-and-software#accessories-of-a-computer

https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/headings/8471

Just... No. Buy one from the Irish Dell website. Leave me alone.

Warlord just changed their EU shipping cost.

Let's hope they get an EU distribution centre soon as the new charges can't but hurt their business.

Just got a GW order with no issues or extra postage costs. Are GW losing money on these transactions now like Warlord claim they are I wonder?

yeah, problem is just that a lot of things go Mail Order only very fast these days but if you plan to buy the big boxes on release might be worth checking

Contacted Fantasywelt to check again, apparently their stuff is still stuck and no idea when it will get to them. 6 weeks so far, which is a long time for Fantasywelt to be without stock. I feel bad for them!

Kutami also posted a quite pessimistic update today. All their stuff vanished through the Herne-Boernig warp rift. I found what I wanted (Titanicus starters) in stock at an Italian store and will cancel my Kutami order.

GW got back to me and could do nothing but apologize and ask me to be patient, so I'll give it two weeks or so until I hit the three month marker, at which point I'll either cancel all outstanding orders or ask them to resend.

As of right now at least one of my orders has entered the clearance process for the seventh time..! Bunch of inept fethwads.

Still isn't working well.
I got The Silent King, but 3 boxes are still in the pipeline since January.
Ordered the new Drukhari codex plus cards. Retailer says order will be delayed.

My latest GW order seems to be stuck in France of all places now. Again due to a B-word related issue.

Pretty much two months since I ordered my stuf now. No sign. I can see that FantasyWelt are getting restocks on stuff now, but that must be from stuff where either they or GW actually sorted out the paperwork.

A bit disappointed that it wasn't sorted out before January to be honest, given we knew the shape of Brexit for ages. It hasn't been on the cards that the UK would remain in the Customs Union for years, since Theresa May originally ruled it out.

I'm not sure what to do. One of the things I ordered was one of the Broken Realms sets that is now out of stock everywhere it seems. Without that box, I'm a bit less interested in the start collecting box I ordered to go with it. So I'm not sure if I should cancel my order or ask them to make it up from the kits that were in the Broken Realm kit individually, or just keep waiting. At the moment settling on continuing the wait, but I do wonder what could be going on up in Hamburg that the stuff is stuck for two months.

At least I got the SK from FantasyWelt after almost two months.
Another parcel with Necron Warriors is still underway and new Druhkari codex and datacards are delayed too.

Two of my orders finally came in today, they were supposed to be delivered yesterday, but if UPS doesn't notify us of when they're delivering, yeah no gak nobody will be around to answer the door.

Leaves me with two parcels from way back in January still in limbo and my preorder that's stuck in France.

After a couple of weeks where things were much better and faster (including some deliveries just days after the weekend release date), we are now back to our regular circus with UPS and customs...
My order with the Lumineth rules is now stuck with a "Late because of UPS error" message which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, plus a tracking history that mentions it apparently went through customs 3 times or more... And my Cursed City tracking is in a quantum state between "Delivery today" and "Still held by customs".

More than the delivery delays which I don't mind too much, it's the vagueness of the labels and the illogical tracking history that make me wary.

Visited the GW store last week and the poor devil is still waiting on a lot of his own stuff and mail orders, with stuff coming in at random with no rhyme or reason involved.

He also pretty much confirmed that my orders from January are at the bottom of a massive pile in the German "sorting" centre and that they just keep throwing gak on top of it, instead of doing the decent thing and sending out the backlog first. donkey-caves.

Tomorrow it'll officially hit the three month mark.

I made an order through an italian local store and the two GW kits that needed to be imported from UK arrived after 3 weeks, as expected. The shop's owner told me that several orders placed in january-february are still on hold though with stuff blocked in a german warehouse.

Well if above poster is correct they are basically getting more per day than they can process in germany and rather than first in first out it's last in, first out.

In theory they might never actually get to the bottom of the pile...

From shipping company perspective it makes sense I guess, the bottom stuff is already delayed to hell, better to keep the current flow going than delay everything to clear the backlog

This.

Sadly, any company that runs on Service Levels and KPI's (all of them nowadays) will operate like this. The stuff that is late has already failed the promised service levels. The new stuff can still be delivered on time which won't affect the failure rates. To deliver the backlog first would mean new stuff would run late which would in turn worsen the failure rates.

Companies only care about what they can show on their reports with massive pressure from on high to keep Service Level failures as low as possible. Doesn't matter that the right thing to do is clear the backlog first. The reports looking good is more important than the customers that they serve.

Ask me how I know. I worked in IT where Service Levels are more important than the users they serve. I'm looking at you ITIL - virtually single handedly responsible for this.

Also don't forget that they aren't getting any downtime or slowdown of deliveries. It might be that some parcels are basically blockaded in by the mountain of new things and that they can't clear out the new fast enough to physically reach the earlier deliveries easily if at all.

Esp when they have to keep space clear to sort and to separate urgent deliveries from regular.

My Cursed City order direct from GW shipped on the 9th and was delivered on the 16th so 1 week which is a lot better than before. Delivered by UPS and it went via France rather than Germany which seems to be a lot quicker.

I've had small orders from Firestorm and Element games delivered in less than a week. I've tried to only place essential orders (things I can't get anywhere else) with them and keep it less than €22 so as not to get stopped by customs as they aren't doing DDP. I had 1 order at around €50 make it through without getting stopped but that was just luck rather than anything else.

Only 1 order has gone missing since January and I got got credit for it.

No more ordering from the UK for me I think. Not worth the aggro.

Funnily enough, the delivery date is listed as.. three months ago, using the original delivery date from aeons ago.

As is, UPS is using a different route now, thankfully skipping Germany for most of their mainland EU shipments now. Biggest bottleneck is the order being held up in a UK port facility for about a week, after which it is stomped through France in no time at all.
