Yeah I'm looking at Fantasy Welt and seeing that stock levels from UK companies are basically non-existent. I wonder how they are gonna deal with it?

For Belgium, parcels delivered via Bpost will have no additional costs if the shipment's value is up to €22 (caveat: this exemption might be removed at some point in time), from €22 to €150, you'll pay €24 for customs formalities and VAT (normal rate is 21%), and with a shipment's value above €150, you'll pay €32 for customs formalities and both VAT (21%) and import duties.

Same here. Anything bought from the UK comes with custom formalities and anything that costs more than 135£ (approx 150 euro) also comes with VAT 21% to pay. Total extra fees is notified only when the item is received so there's no way to calculate it in anticipation, although an estimate is possible.

Even in the best case scenario minimum extra fees would be so high that buying from UK is basically to be avoided without second thoughts at the moment. Unless there's something you really want regardless the cost.

I wonder how this will impact wargames companies in the UK going forward. The UK is a huge market on their doorstep, but I do wonder how widely some of the models were sold outside the UK. And is it an advantage for EU operators like Shieldwolf and so on?

We may see that some of the non-EU companies who ship orders / KS rewards via the UK to the EU now may in the future look for a mainland EU location instead.

Still being bombarded by almost daily bogus shipping notifications from UPS. Contacting their customer services regarding this all has been very unhelpful and I'm not going to bother GW with something that is out of their hands right now.

Well, I have four parcels in the pipeline,
two ordered from our local gaming store, and
two ordered from Fantasyworld.
Delay of 4 to 6 weeks so far.

I put my order in on the 1st Feb, and aside from the confirmation email I have heard nothing since. Definitely, nothing has shipped.

I'm pretty curious how long this is going to take and how it will shake out long term. That long for delivery for a country right beside us is totally crazy and unacceptable.

It's not just over there. I got notice from my closest store here in the US no preorders on the upcoming Sigmar stuff. They have no idea when, or what, they might get. This is after no preorders but for the codex book for Death Guard & Dark Angels/Marines 40K releases. They are a moderately sized independent that usually carries the full GW line and usually has 6-12+ preorders for most things; more for major releases. Things are looking grim.

Not grim just snarled up - esp overseas; though Brexit is also snarling up shipments and things like models are lower priority over things like food and other perishables.

It's been a month since Brexit and we're still looking at multi-week delays, I hope it's not "the new normal" but I suspect it will be to some extent. Brexit raised trade barriers, that creates friction and slows down trade.

But you have deals replicating most of rules and requlations(apart from vat) to keep border open. If you didn't same paperwork and checks that are cripling uk trade to eu would be cripling swiss trade to eu and reverse.

So checks etc have to be done on your side. That's thing with deals for uk. If they want to make deals with countries that have deal with eu they run into having to follow relevant eu standards anyway.

It will improve slightly when companies get used to it but paperwork will be there to stay. Though on april things gets worse as some extra rules come into force(they got delayed to give time to prepare) and another hit coming july when uk implements controls on their border(atm apart from certain dangerous items uk has open border. Opening itself for fraud).

Though with 68% exports to eu gone for good there will be less queues for remaining so maybe that helps...

An acquaintance who runs a medium-sized clothing company just mentioned they are moving their main office to Europe to try and ease these new barriers to trade.

I wonder if GW are planning a similar move? I haven't seen figures on their trade with the EU but I suspect it's substantial. Recent stock market reports highlighted that the company relies heavily on small retailers (more than its own outlets) which means that the extra red tape will have a disproportionate impact.

Thanks for the summaries above which provide a pretty good explanation. It's much the same for Brits purchasing from Europe. A big hassle.

Gw has 2 options on easing sales to eu:

A) open up warehouse in europe, ship all to there well in advance, distribute from there. There still would be delay but that's getting stufff from uk to warehouse. Gw can reduce impact by sending stuff there early enough but if eu shops sells something fast enough they drain warehouse customers might notice it.
B) less likely open up entire production line as well. Gets rid of delays in border period. Would cost more to set up though.

I keep hearing mentions of eu warehouse gw is supposed to have but haven't found evidence and seeing store orders are hitting customs obviously not coming from that mystical warehouse. If no likely they will open up one. Weeks delays getting new items(dg codex still hasn't got here...) is no good for business and delays aren't going to dissapear in future.

Fantasywelt customer support says customs are sitting on every GW order they made in the last 6 weeks with no hint on when they'll be released.

AFAIK they closed all their European operations down about 8 or 9 years ago. They used to have a huge store in Duesseldorf that got closed in the downsizing.

It might be that they need to open something up again. I hope so anyway! I don't want a 5-6 week wait on every parcel.

Ddorf was a great place to be. I played several GTs there.

Our local retailer said that GW plans to open a base in the Netherlands.

Huh, if true, not a bad move, I can see them shipping in their products here and once the customs process has been streamlined, it should be peanuts to timely cover the rest of mainland EU like they did before.

My own local store has reopened in limited capacity and has made it clear that you can only get whatever he's got in stock at the moment. He has no clue as to when mail orders will open up again or when he can reorder stock for the store.

Two of my orders have now officially passed the one month in limbo period. UPS has put the delays on Brexit, COVID and the adverse weather going on right now around here and are "working hard to alleviate the backlog"

Netherland is one big winner of brexit. Amsterdam overtook london as financial center in europe and all sort of companies are taking advantage of good logistics(short distances to train/airport) and all of europe being close.

Could be worse options for gw distribution center.

I have several orders from GW and FW stuck in an UPS warehouse in Germany as well (ordering from France). My LGS hasn't received anything since the beginning of the year as well, I think.
OTOH, I got stuff from Wayland with reasonable delivery time twice since Brexit.

Checking now...

Space wolves pack is now €38.37, was €33 when last I checked. Was only €28 5 years ago, but I digress. 16% increase since Brexit then.

I know Wayland has the VAT prepaid thing, carrier also didn't tack on any bullgak handling charge?

EDIT: Never mind, I see there's a 26GBP minimum shipping charge for my location now... pass.

I'm gonna send FantasyWelt an email on Monday. That's two weeks after I ordered with no sign of any movement, so I figure it's not unreasonable just to check with them what the situation is.

Though I figure they are probably swamped with emails, so I might wait a bit longer. Since it is pretty predictable what the problems might be.

I don't have free shipping to continental Europe anymore on Wayland, but only got £5 of shipping fees, which is reasonable.

I pre-ordered a couple of Slaanesh things from Fantasywelt. Maybe I'll get lucky. Probably won't.

It's just not something they can influence. Trade with Britain will normalize in time, but there was always going to be a rough transitional period with the way negotiations were handled.

And with Corona meaning that many ports and sites can't operate staff at full capacity as normal; plus added on top vastly increased postal trade due to lockdowns and people avoiding shopping; plus post likely coming in the wrong way since the airports are basically not doing much freight right now so its all coming via shipping.

I suspect things like models just get pushed aside for perishables and the like which are, honestly, far more urgent that they get through the system faster.

Sorry Blackfang, I had read what you posted and then forgot!

Well, I hope it can get through the customs eventually. Must be on the German side, my experience is that they are not very helpful in general.

Edit: Just to say I don't buy at all that the disruptions are particularly Corona related. First, the disruptions only apply to the UK. Second, we had Corona in 2020 as well without these severe problems (not no problems but not like this). The situation changed in January and the reason is barriers to trade with the UK were raised due to the political choices of the UK.
