Good Idea, but I went for graven's solution earlier.
Here's what the Land raider looks like now:
Sadly the pics are not showing what the airbrushing job really looks like. The next step is the gold and perhaps some OSL (and the gunner of course).
On a different subject, I'm preparing the board for the next game Vim_the_good and I are going to play in October (sorry if the pics are blurry):
I'll add some more ruins in the middle of the board, and at least one passageway between the manufactorum and the basilica. Any suggestions on the central ruins?
I'm also working on some Blood bowl models for a small league I might set up in the next months (if I can motivate enough players around here).
A la prochaine!

And what about that board ?!? Awesome !! Are you planning to seal the buildings into the board, or making them removable ?

Those giant smoke stacks are still just amazing. Board looks neat, really like the manufactorum.

Thank you guys! I've recently thought of adding a new element to the land raider. I know it's risky to add stuf once the model has been painted, but I'll try to do the cleanest job I can.
It's an element from the WoC Altar of Chaos:
I'll put a couple ot these just above the tracks (it fits almost perfectly)
Yggdrasil wrote:

I'll magnetise the buildings with strong magnets, because it will be easier to store the board whithout elements on it, and I'll be able to re-use the buildings on different battlefields.

I just finished going through your thread from the first page, enjoying every bit of it. Remarkable craftsmanship, what you are showing is really amazing.
Some time ago you mentioned the pdf’s for the bastion rebuild, would you still happen to have those around?
I’ve been thinking about putting together something like it for some time, and those templates – not to mention your example – would make a great starting point.
Hope you can get back to modelling soon.

@Yggs: even after I've left Paris, it's still a bit expensive (but less painful )
I'll post some pics of what I'm working on right now during the next weeks.
@Dukebadham: The first rule of the press moulding is "don't speak about press moulding"
@Littletower: You're welcome man! I'd be really happy to see what you're bastion is going to look like!
Nothing to show today, but I think this blog might soon turn to something a bit...eldarish...

@Skalk: Thank you!
About Blood Bowl,I hope for you you'll get the oppotunity to play. As I say "Blood Bowl is the life, Renfield!"
@Sennacherib: Thank you man! the two important things I've learned about instant mold are to use really hot water (nearly boiling) because the hotter it is, the more details it will take, and to apply the instant mold slowly to avoid air bubbles (which are ruining the mold). Another thing is to wait for the mold to be completely cold (don't hesitate to dip it in a bowl of water with an ice cub or two.
@LeBaron: Thank you! I hope you'll love the stuff to come.
@Littletower: I really want to see what you're going to build.
Just a few pics of the only things I

Thanks! Another weekend went by, and some more work got done...
(I'm posting advances on this and other ongoing projects in my own plog, just let me know if/when you want me to stop treading in yours!)
As you, I've used high impact styrene, sold as support for vinyl plotted advertising signs (I got mine as 100x60cm sheets, in three different thickness: 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mm). It glues fine with plastic cement or cyanoacrylate/superglue, and sands and files easily too. I don't have any modelling plasticard for comparison, but I'm guessing it's basically the same material, in a less glamorous packaging.
The main problem I see when compared with yours is that the lesser thickness - So far, I've been cutting out the main pieces from the 1.5 - require the visible edges to be built up, so as not to look too thin (Which I did by adding a thin strip below the rims of the floors and walkways). On the other hand, working with 1.5 instead of 3 mm thick plastic surely makes for easier and probably more precise cuts and, thus, tighter fittings.
À bientôt!

Hey guys! I'm back!
September was an exhausting month for me (too many LARPs) and it took weeks of unproductive rest to get motivated to work on my various projects.
So, here are many pics of what I did recently:
Blood Bowl: I have converted an old metal water troll for my goblin team, and added ulfwerners to my norse team (one of the arm was missing but my firends GS and instant mold were here )
The bastion: Before starting to work on a couple of weapon emplacements as Littletower did on his version, I've decided to take a leap with resin casting.
I don't have a good casting resin yet, just some cristal resin, but I've found a retailer for a better stuff.
Now I fully understand the bubble issues. Since a vacuum chamber is very expensive, I'm thinking of building one myself.
The city fight game table: The passageways are done!
Next step is to add some paint to this table.
It will probably not be fully painted for the next game I'll have with Vim_the_good, (necrons vs SoB 1000pts) But I'd really like to get some buildings painted.
I'll go for a clear color for the adminisratum building (white base, baneblade brown with an agrax earthshade wash), dark green for the manufactorum an dark grey for the basilica.
What do you guys think?

Great looking stuff man!
As to casting, I recommend skipping the vacuum chamber and instead using a pressure system. It is a lot easier to set up I found; vacuum pumps are silly expensive, and the cheaper ones you can get for car maintenance don't get the pressure down low enough. Pressure only requires a half decent compressor and a paint sprayer pot that fits paint cans. Around here Harbor Freight sells them for like 80$.

Thank you guys for your cheering comments!
Yesterday, Vim_the_good and I had a game on this table (a great game). The table was perfect for this 1000 pts game and the multi-level worked very well (the table being 1m² it could have been crowded and the game could have been resumed to a huge assault phase). I'm thinking about working on an extension to this table to build an insane cityfight table!
Here are some pics of the game (sorry some are blurry)
First, sisters and 'crons running toward the building whare the relic was supposed to be:
Finally they both reached the building and the game tund in a very unpleasant way for my sisters (I do not like these Mindshackle scarabs stuf)
On the other side of the table, my first seraphim squad was nearly exterminated under the shots of the necron warriors, leaving only the superior sister on the table with a revengeful mind (and melta bombs )
A surviving necron wraith made its way to my deployment zone, charging a squad of sisters and killing more than them in three turns.
I've painted the administratum building with baneblade brown and washed it with agrax earthshade. the next step will be to try a zenithal airbrushing on the walls with some bleached bone like paint before painting patches of rust on it.
@ wehrkind: thanks for the tip! I'll try to convert an old steam cooker to a pressure pot (I can't find an affordable one, only professionnal expensive material).
@ Littletower: thanks for the advice.
I hope to be able to work on the buildings this week-end and to start working on my junk pile for Skalk's contest.

Howdy guys!
Four month and a half since I last posted something... I guess it's some kind of personal record.
My PC was out of use for months and I could not upload anything for a while. I've never been far away, since I regularly checked Dakka when possible, and I spent a lot of time working on different projects and improving my gaming room (electicity, thermic isolation, home cinema... necessary stuff only ).
First, I've been training at airbrushing on terrain and eldar stuff for days. No highly detailed work, but I needed some practice before starting to work on some more interesting techniques like OSL or even working on regular models.
Here are some of the terrains I've ben practicing on (some are still WIP, but most of the paintjob is done)
First: GW trenches. Not the new walls of martyrs stuff, the plastic and hardfoam ones:
I have to admit this one still needs a lot of work to cover the grey
(Yes I know, the chimera needs some more paint and weathering, but should have seen it when I got it from ebay )
The first one was interesting for me because the sculpt is very close to the trench part of my GW gaming table and I think I will try to do something similar on it.
I've also painted a couple of micro art studio firing positions
A temple of skulls (which was very hard to find now it's discontinued)
and a new shrine of the aquila I had in mind for a while (gold is the next stage)
I've also started to paint all the buildings and passageways I've made for my cityfight table, and three forests but I've no pictures yet.
I've also made some significant progresses in resin casting, mainly because I have found a good resin retailer (at last)
Here is what I 've ended with:
and I've made enough doors to finish the bastion.
And finally, I've decided to use all the marines I have gathered along the last years to start a new a new space marines army (because I wouldn't use them in my Dark Angels army anyway) and since I had some Iron hands bits, then Iron hands it will be!
(for your information, the marines on the left are metal beakies and those on the right are classic devastator -which should be perfect for some veteran squad)
(Ten scouts on the left including five snipers and a classic assault squad on the right)
(That's probably too many techmarines, but most of them might end up as sternguards -what do you think?)
And finally a techmarine on a bike.
I've always been frustrated to be unable to include one in my DA army, and I really want to make it look as great as possible.
Any comment is welcome.
Cheers guys!

@ Monkeytroll: Thanks! I've done most of my progress when I was working on my Eldar army. The shape of the vehicles are perfect for a good practice:
I've also worked on walkers which allowed me to try tome zenithal airbrushing:
@ Graven: thank you M'sieur!
After reading your post this morning, I've checked in the SM codex about this conversion beam you were talking about ( DA don't have access to fancy things as master of the forge ), and after looking on the FW site for pictures of the model, I've decided it was the way to go
So, it starts with an old techmarine backpack with a missing claw
and an old space crusade weapon which had been sleeping in my bitz box for at least a decade:
A few magnets are welcome (just in case I'd realize it doesn't fit my gaming style )
and here's the reult so far:
What do you think guys?

@theophony: I guess it's their potential in terms of conversion and modeling that make the Iron Hands so appealing

Post by: Hyenajoe
Thank you Littletower. I still have to finish the details on the upper part of the bastion, and to build some weapons emplacements as you did on yours.
I have made a few progress on the techmarine today: he now has his axe:
And I have assembled a librarian with a jump pack (an old jump pack )
I'm also thinking of casting my own right shoulder pad with specific clan features, starting with this:
I'll remove the skull to replace it by the clan Raukaan symbol and put it on a blank shoulder pad.
If the result is not convincing, I may try something else.
Any idea or suggestion guys?

@moltar: I've decided to finish my biel tan army this year, using my airbrush to work as fast as possible. I hope it won't be too messy.
Here are my latest progress on the Iron hands. A first tactical squad is on it's way!
And some veterans:
I don't know if I should make them sergeants or veterans of some kind.
Any idea?

Post by: Hyenajoe
Hey guys, here are some progress on the Iron Hands.
First, the veteran sergeant of my beakie squad:
And some new tactical marines:
I've used the remaining heads from the Maxmini Steampunk Knight helmets I've used for the Lost Knights (the models you can see on the first page of this thread).
I'm making some significant progress on the clan raukaan shoulderpads, starting with a base of rhino crew shoulderpad, removing the skull and adding GS nuts. I should be able to show the prototype soon.

Salut les gars!
I've finished my first attempt on the clan raukaan shoulderpad (converting making a mold and casting with resin).
Here's the original I've made:
It's the mechanicus plastic shoulder pad I was talkin about previously with GS nuts I've drilled.
It looked fine for me so I've decided to cast it followind Blackhand's awesome tutorial: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/307451.page ),
and here's the painted result on a marine:
Let's face the truth: it's a failure!
It's messy and it loos more like a nurgle icon than anything else!
So Ive decided to build another prototype:
I won't drill the nuts on this one to get sure they won't get deformed and loose their hexagonal shape, I'll just paint a white dot on each one later.
What do you think guys? Am I going to face antoher disapontment? Any advice is more than welcome!

Post by: Yggdrasil
Hey Hyena !
Latest shoulder pad looks great, but I think they'd look even better if the nuts were closer to the center (and to each other, for that matter)...
Great airbrush job on the Eldar, btw

Anytime someone builds iron hands I must go back to the best I've ever seen, I.e. brotherargos iron hands here's the link including his second post showing those same shoulder pads. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/331718.page
I've always wanted to do iron hands as well, but never could live up to that level. Hopefully he'll give you some inspiration.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@Yggs: thank you M'sieur. The distance between the nuts may be something to work on. One of my problems with the first attempt was that the nuts were too close to each other, making it difficult to paint them and between them. Perhaps I was a bit too focused on avoiding this problem.
@Theophony: thank you man! The thread you've linked is amazing indeed! I still own some DA mechanicus shoulder pads and if I manage to do something nice with the current attempt, I'll probably try to build another one to bring some variety to my army.

Hey guys!
I've lost my USB device, so no pics to show, unfortunately...
Yet, there are some news about the Iron Hands!
The army is complete (not finished, complete).
I've received 4 dreadnoughts, and bought a stormraven.
I've started to work on the stormraven to build something similar to the true scale kit from Chapterhouse studio.
I've re-worked the first shoulder pads, as Ygs suggested it, and it looks better indeed!.
A second shoulder pad made from the DA kit but it needs more work on it.
I expect to be able to upload some pics soon. Cheers!

Thank you guys!
A side view? Ask and you shall get!
And here are some views of what I've done during on the top of the stormraven during the last two hours.
Until now, it's been a quite easy job to build this extension. From designing the pieces to assembling, it's a small day of work.
It only took half an hour to cut the side extensions out of 0.75mm plasticard, using the original sides as a template.
I have some pics of the early stages on my other camera and should be able to upload them if anyone is interested.
I've also done a lot of progress on the bastion lately. Here are the last pictures!
It's not complete yet, but it should be finished quite soon.
By the way, I had the occasion to make a new mold of some building element:

It's been five years since the last time I posted something here.
I'm not dead and neither are my projects!
Only recently have I found some time to sit and paint all these models which were collecting dust on a shelf in my basement.
I'm really glad to be able to post new stuff here!
Last Christmas I starded to paint my Iron Hands Army, and it's almost finished by now!
Here's the first tactical squad!

Another tactical squad:
Short range scouts:
Long range scouts:
The first Dreadnought (an old AOBR one)
Still on the workbench are:
-an assault squad
-four other dreadnoughts
-the HQs (Librarian with jump pack, a master of the forge on bike with a conversion beamer, and a classic commander)
-perhaps an old school devastator squad.
