Awesome. I didn't notice that on the gw website when i first saw it. Did you greenstuff the entire thing or did you cut of the metal face and glue it on and then cover it with greenstuff ?

I've made a milliput mold, and pressed GS into it, then, once the GS was hardened enough, I cut off the face and glued it onto the leg.

I've missed out on a lot here, just got caught up. The Dreadnought is absolutely amazing, and I cracked up when I realized what the DP was carrying.
Not to get you off track, but waaaaayyyy back you posted some pics of Beastmen from your LatD army. I'm looking for projects like that right now, was wondering if you had anything more to share?

You won't get me off the track Skalk (unless you suggest me a new conversion idea ).
I'm glad you like the Dread and the DPs.
Here are some more pics of the Beastmen (sorry they're just black primed, and I don't know if you'll see all the details).
Basically they're a mix of catachan, beastmen and WoC marauders. I've add GS hair on the shoulders and on the belly (for those with naked catachan torsos).
I hope it will help you.

Now I'll try to finish the convertions on the Emperor's Children before to start something new. I'm planning to get some Forgeworld rhino plates during the french Games Day and,why not, gather some thousand sons for my next CSM army...
On the other hand I think I might take a break from CSMs after the Emp Kids, I've been working on chaotic models for more than 2 years and need something different. Perhaps working on my SOB or my Eldars.
I think I'll post something new next week.

Thanks for posting those, glad to see they aren't ready for the Shelf of Shame just yet! I asked if you were working on them because I've finally started on my own Cult army and I'm looking for ideas to -steal- draw inspiration from.
I really like the idea of Beastmen w/ Lasguns. Takes me back to the Rogue Trader / early 2nd Ed. days.
I'm going to give a few of those a try (Beastmen conversions). I have a bunch of Chaos Marauders that I'm never going to use in WFB again so they will be finding a new home in the Cult as well.
I'll be back! Thanks again.

Hi Hyena,
Great job on the DP, he's looking great.
Good job with the doom siren on the lascannon Although RSjake is right about the drilling but I forgive you with those heads, when I drilled them out for my khorne dreads exausts it was such a pain because the mouth opening is thinner than the others and I destroyed a couple, and nearly gave up
Those noise marines are looking wicked.

I have been making a noise similar to "GSDJGJSGJDSSFPFOEPFOESPFKMCSNWJUDWJ." the entire time i have been reading this thread.
From the simple switches of heads and robes on your CSMs, to that... beautiful daemon prince... gah!..., you are top notch my friend, and your work makes me incredibly jealous.
I am most definitely stealing some of your shield and helm ideas for my Marines.

Thank you guys!
I consider that seeing my work stolen is the best compliment, so if you give a try to some of my techniques, I'd be honored to see the result!
I feel shameful for not posting news for a month, but to be honnest I've considerably slowed down my conversion production rythm.
The main reason is the use of GS: I have a baby girl who's one year old now and she's exploring our appartment and I don't want her to get close to any GS trace she could accidentaly inhale or swallow. And since I can't get a special room to work on my models I'm forced to wait for those moments she's not home so that I can clean the area before she returns; the problem is: there's not many of those moments...
So I'm painting more than converting, trying to get more models definitely out of the sinister "Dark Drawer of Models To Be Painted"
(my Wolrd Eaters warband is nearly fully painted which is a huge victory for me!).
I'll get some time next week to try to finish the converting job on the Emperor's Children, and since I'll be at the french Games Day this week end, you might see new pics soon (not necessarily my work but cool stuff I expect).

Well, the Games Day was fine (but a little overcrowded IMHO). I must confess I've spent more money on the FW stand than I planned to do, but I guess it's part of the game .
There were some great models there for the Golden Demon and the Armies on Parade contests.
Here are some pics (sorry if they appear to be blurry, but it was really hard to get close enough from the exposition shelves to get a decent pic without getting bounced by some guy's overweighted backpack...
This Talos won a Golden Demon in its category (warmachines):
And this was one of the most incredible piece of conjversion I've ever seen: a Mechanicus War Train!
3 m long!
I also discussed with the FW Chaos Dwarf sculptor (a really nice guy!) of the development process at FW (which appear to be different from GWs process).
My only regret was to get back home without the Scrap Demon (one day, it'll be mine...one day..)
BTW Yggs, your model is safe on a shelf, waiting to be delivered.

I've never been to a GD and kick myself for not having gone when I lived close enough to have gone to one 3 years in a row. *sigh*
Your inspiration helped create the following:
2 of 3 are finished now and were part of my Traitor Guard list this last weekend. They crushed all that stood before them... which was no one. I ran them as Conscripts and because of where they deployed (complete opposite side of the table from the objectives) they took 1 round of shooting, a handful of casualties, and then summarily ignored by the opposing force for the rest of the game.
Looking forward to seeing more greatness from you.

Good job on these mutants Skalk!
I really like your paintjob on the skin
The one with the chainsword, particularly, looks really vicious!
I still don't have much time to work on my models but here are some news:
Wolf the Defiler (my World Eater defiler) is now fully cabled and will receive extra armor plates and some plasticard blades. I also got a Microart studio oval base for him:
During the Games Day I purchased a Plague Hulk of Nurgle (a fantastic model but why do they have to leave such big chunks of resin on it?) it remembered me of my love for Papa Nurgle and you should see some Death Guard stuff in the next months.
I should get some of the necrosphynx bits soon (enough to build the humanoid part of the kit) and I will try to mount it on a defiler chassis (after it will have spend enough time whithin the "Baleful Wardrobe of Models to Be Built").
Cheers!

Do you have news you can share about the Chaos Dawrves? My friend just started collecting them, starting with two units of the ForgeWorld minis and the cannon. He'd love to find out what else is coming up (so he can start coming up with reasons why he's spending his kid's college fund )

Post by: Hyenajoe
@Mastiff: Well I'd like to have good news about the Chaos Dwarves, but they don't plan to release models for the entire army list, for example there won't be hobgoblins for a long time (if there evere is an hobgoblin release). From what I've been told, they might take a break from the Chaos Dwarves after this wave of releases to work on the general development of the warhammer forge range. There might however be some sorcerer and unmasked troops releases.
Now it's time to show you some new stuff!
Yesterday I had my day off and I received all the bits I expected from the necrosphyx kit, so here are some WIP pics (I hope you'll like it)
I still don't know how I'll fill the juction betseen the back and the chassis (I have to do that before setting the wings).
I don't know how I'll call this one but something like the Soul Hunter or the Soul Eater would sound good for a Tzeentchian Soul Grinder.
I've also worked on Wolf the Defiler: the extra armor plates have been glued, I just have to build some extra plasticard blades, add some Khorne icons and chains and this little guy will be ready for the undercoat.
What do you think?

Love the necro-defiler, vey 1000-sons. How about flipping the wings upside down and join them to make an upside down v shape. Fit it on the back of the defiler, the downward facing wingtips facing the rear would look like barding from a horse and the opening where the tail pokes out could be filled with tech stuff. Very nice

Thanks! I've started Wolf more than a year ago, it was about time for me to finish it (and perhaps, one day finish the Silver tower too )
The Tzeentch sphynx thing was really quickly made (less than an hour) and the hardest part was to glue the legs to the chassis. I must say I'm quite happy with this one.
Yggdrasil wrote:A friend of mine told me the Games Day was really overcrowded, which spoilt his day a bit...

I've been waiting for almost 45 min to 1 hour, just to get a seat for the Scrap Demon. The time to reach the forgeworld stand was insane (unless you were ordering some stuff, which allowed you to buy some kits allong with paying for the order). I couldn't reach the Armies on Parade expostion for some time and I really had a limited access to the Golden Demon tables (not to mention being perpetually bounced by careless guys -oh, did I mention I hate proximity?)

I had 2 days off this week, which allowed me to progress on some projects.
- I've prepared a dozen GS faces to add to my noise marines legs.
-I've started to paint both Wolf the Defiler, and my Brass Scorpion.
-I've worked on the Sorcerer Dreadnought, here are some WIP pics (sorry the pics are blurry ) :
It lacks of arrows and fancy hyeroglyphs for now.
The dreadnought force weapon arm is on its way, I'm quite happy with this one.
Tzeentch icons bent and glued on the legplates.
The early stages of the sarcophagus. The GS mold for the mutated eyes I'll put on each side is ready.
There is one point I need an advice. I like to put icons both on the top and the back of my dreadnought (as I did with the Khone and Slaanesh dreads).
Until now, I only have the regular CSM Tzeentch icon, and I still don't know where to put it:
here?
or here?
What do you think?

The leg guards are beautiful but...not too sure on the head. I feel it needs to be sunk in a bit more as all the dreadnought patterns seem to have the head in a socket as it were with raised collar.

@ Tinfoil: I'm glad you like it!
@Tyranic Marta: I like it too, but I'll probaly cut it into bits to use on the dread.
I'll go for the Horrors icon on top, and try to find my old metal WHFB tzeentch icon to put it on the back of the dread.

Here are some news:
- I've finished the modeling job on my noise marines legs. Now I have to make 5 more tentacled helmets, and 6 more heads looking like the DPs.
-Basecoat on Wolf's armor is nearly done, then I'll use some layers of red gore and blood red before to paint the mutant flesh and finally the metallic parts:
-I've worked on the Sorceror Dread according to Yggs and Tinfoil advices. However, I've tried something with the classic tzeentch icon on the back:

Remember to post pics of it if you give a try!
BTW great news: I've finally received my forge world order with all the Emp kids rhino upgrade kits I was waiting for to start the transports (and some Death Guard stuff as well)

I'm waiting for 3 boxes of TS, 20 metal horrors, 5 termies and Arhiman
I must also buy get some Scibor and Chapterhouse TS bits for the termies
No need to say that my hobby budget is now severely crippled and that I might be more reasonable until the end of the year, and -why not- try to paint some models!

Post by: Hyenajoe
well...let's say I was distracted by an unsuspected invitation involving friends, board games, swimming pool and cocktails...
Yet I was able to assemble 20 metal horrors,2 Death Guard rhinos and a land raider, to strip paint from 2 defilers, and to give a try at casting with a silicon mold and white metal...
About the more serious projects, I'm cruelly lacking of plastic chaos icons to work on the sorcerer dread, and I still don't know how to build the mystic engine I have in mind for the necrodefiler...
BTW, something really cool happened last week. I got my 3 squads of Thousand Sons (which I expected), but I also got 3 more TS squads as a gift!
Now, appart from Ahriman and some rhinos, I have far enough models to build a cool TS army!
It will be hard to put them appart for months, but I have to finish my Emperor's Children first.

@moonshine: thanks man!
@tipios: we missed your awesome conversions! I hope everything's fine for you now and that you'll be able to provide us more great ideas (any chance to see more about your CSMs?)
@skalk: I've only made a full GS two parts mold once, to make replacement backpacks for a Sisters of battle squad, the results were rather random, but I think I have the necessary skills now (and my last experience with silicon was more than encouraging). The technique will be roughly the same as described in this tuto:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242040.page
The only thing that will really be different will be the materials (milliput as the modelling clay and GS to replace both silicon and resin)
Now I must wait to have enough free time to make it.

Well the Standing defiler took me a loooong time (not because it was a complicated job, but because I shelved it too long otherwise it would be a 3 full modelling days job.), The other one was built in an afternoon. It's a basic kitbash between the Soul Grinder and the new WHFB Necrosphynx kit.

@Tipios and GiraffeX: I really like your work on TS too!
@ Moltar: I've never been a huge fan of horned CSMs unless to give them a barbarian look. The average horned CSM heads are ridiculous IMO.
@Sennacherib: Thanks a lot! If your friend is interested in the technique I've used, I'd be glad to help him.
I'm planning to give my termies some good old power fists (not really esthetic, but effective in game!) and perhaps the termie sorceror staff for the champion. I won't put the trophy racks on their back because they would seem out of place on
a Thousand Son. I don't know what shooting weapons I should give them for the moment.

Wow! I didn't know exactly what to expect, I knew it would be excellent, but THAT is awesome! I really respect your ingenuity and craftsmanship. "One size fits all" Terminators might be ok for some legions, but something so distinct as Thousand Sons needed exactly what you did here. Looking forward to seeing this painted up!

Thank you Skalk!
Good news for the sorcerer dread: I've finally received the plastic chaos stars I needed to work on it (I'm going to do something similar to what I did with the sonic dread's armor plates.)
I've also got some nurgle vehicles icons for my Death Guard Rhinos and the heads to complete the Thousand Sons termies squad.
I hope to be able to do something on Friday.
A la prochaine!

No, I had not seen these russians TS termies yet (I knew their regular TS converting kit however). These kits are wonderful (pricey, but wonderful) and I really wish I had the budget for it!
Thanks for your comments guys, the second termie is on its way and since I have my evening just for me (My wife and my daughter are on holidays) I'll try to prepare enough bits to finish the squad. If I have enough time, I might also start to work on my WHFB sorceror for Panic's PIMP MY SORCERER 40K contest (turning the Chaos sorceror to a dark mechanicus magos).

Great press-moulding, did you use instant mould?
Will be interested to see you Drak Magos, being as i am a purveyor of the "real and just" AdMdech!
Have you made any progess on the Necrofiler?

Thanks Vitruvian!
I just made a GS mold
I've got my WHFB sorceror during my lunch break today, and I can't wait to be home to start working on the magos (I already have somethnig precise in mind!).
No news about the Necrodefiler (lack of time) but as soon as I will have enough time to build the engine, I'll finish it.

What pics? Have you seen pics? I don't see pics!
I've been very productive last night, the magos is nearly done, my nurgle vehicles (2 rhinos, 1 land raider and a defiler) are ready for the black undercoat, and I've made nearly enough bits to finish the termies (I must still make 1 loincloth).
I was about to post some step by step pics of the magos building, but I realised my dear wife took the camera for the week end
I must say I'm quite happy with the result; I've found the perfect bits for this conversion ( Fabius Bile's servo-arms, a metal CSM termie head, an old power axe, and an oddly miscated CSM backpack). Pics will follow (probably on monday)

As far as I know, it's an original conversion, I thought of it as soon as I've seen the Necrosphynx pic in the Tomb Kings previews. I know someone also had a similar idea in the P&M section, making a photoshop sketch, but I already had this in mind. My original concern was to build a soul grinder/defiler with a cool Tzeentchian look (I'm not a huge fan of the soul grinder model).
I'll try to finish the termis squad soon, and the dreadnought as well.
Just a side note, I've finally finished the winged prince (which now have an ass - no joke intended).

Thanks Marta, I plan to finish the termies next week-end, and I might even make some progress on the sorcerer dread.
After that I'll try to get back on the Emp Kids project to finish all the modelling before to start a loooooong period of painting.
I've done so many conversions these last years, and I have gathered hundreds of unpainted models. I think it's time for a change. So I have decided to stop buying minis or bits ( ) and to start no new project until all I have finished everything I have started!

Hi there!
I had more time for modelling these last days than I expected, so here are my progresses on the Sorcerer dreadnought (still some details to finish before painting) and the TS Termies which are complete and ready for paint!
The Sorcerer dread:
I have to say to those who would doubt of the trophies racks that I was more or less obliged to add them for a modelling purpose (I'll explain it later)
So far I still have to finish the left armor plate and some small elements of junctions.
The Thousand Sons terminators

Just found this thread and I love your work. I really like the Magos and have some questions about him.
1. Can I attempt to reproduce him?
2. What parts did you use? I see the new Warriors of Chaos Sorcerer Lord, an upside down cut up CSM back-pack, berserker pistol, and Chirugeon arms. but I cant place the head, Ax head, or blobs hanging from the back-pack.
I will give you full credit for the idea, I won't steal credit for a mediocre idea much-less a great idea like this guy.

The head is from the old metal terminator champion, but any CSM/ SM head with a respirator could do the trick. The axe is a power axe from the 2nd ed CSMs and has been filed to look more mechanicus, and the blobs were part of the backpack (which was strangely miscasted)you can make it in GS.
Thanks for being interested in my work and for promoting it

No kidding mate, this has to be one of the best custom dreads I have seen... Ever !
It has a lot of personality, the top SM torso + helmet, the added spikes on the shoulders, the Horror icon, the force weapon, the GS'ed right shoulder, ... That's but a few of the details that make it so special!!
I don't have any suggestion that could make it better... It's almost perfect for a Tzeentchian Machine of Changing Death...

Some news: I've started to paint the termies! I went for a Regal blue base and highlightings of Regal blue and Ice blue. I'll try to post some PIP pics of the most advanced model soon.
I have almost finished theplasticard job on th Sorcerer Dread, and I'm currently toying with the idea of adding seals of corruption on it (basically seals of purity but with a small chaos star instead of the wax seal).
Do you think it's a good idea?
39150
Post by: Asylum_Inmate
Seals of Corruption suond like an excellent idea, so long as its obvious that they aren't purity seals.
If they look too much like purity seals you will constanly being asked why your chaos marines have purity seals by people too lazy/stupid to take a proper look

Wow. Can't believe I've only (re)stumbled across this blog. Absolutely great work Joe; the Termies, Wolf, Necro-sphinx, the Dread... All of it is great work; amazing job man. Then there's the latest Death Guard too!
Can't wait to see more of the termies particularly, as they look great with the little bit of GS work you added. And then there's adding the paint to do too.
How are you intending to represent some of these models such as Wolf, the Beastmen and the Dread in-game btw?
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@Asylum: I can assure you the seals won't look pure!
@Nightfall: Thanks! There's no model you can't make with dakka tutos and some tools!
@Just Dave: Thanks man! I'm glad you appreciate my conversions. Wolf is a 4 CCW defiler (don't ask about the cannon or I'l tell you about the loincloth ), for the beastmen I use the old Latd codex (I know it's outdated, but it's only for friendly games) or IG. The Sorcerer dread...well I'd like to play it as a TS equivalent to the BA furioso librarian (and without this stupid madness rule which doesn't fit with the TS fluff!!!), but I have no rules for it now so I play it as a regular CSM dread. (Of course if you have adequat rules for it...)
As promised, here's an early PIP of the first terminator:
What do you think so far ?

I had said earlier seals of corruption, but seemingly the post didn't make it through...

As I mentioned it earlier, the dread is nearly done (at least for the modelling job) But one point Bother me: its base!
I don't want a plain base and I won't have the occasion to pucharse a cool resin base so I'll have to make it myself. But my problem here is not technical, I just cruelly lack of inspiration.
Any idea?
Automatically Appended Next Post: EDIT:
I've been making some GSing on the sorceror dread during my lunchbreak, and by the same occasion, I started to work on the corruption seal, and finally I've finished the GSing of the Snake Prince!
Talking about the Snake Prince, I'm planning to give him a loincloth from the DP kit (the cloth one, not the chainmailed) to hide the awfull Mess that's the junction between the DP torso ant the Trygon tail.

Well for the Dread's base you could get some plasticard (If you have any spare From memory its rather expensive) And make a Mark of Tzeentch on it surrounded by a wheel of chaos 9You know Its like a circle with little spikes coming out at regular intervals) Anyhoo those two would be engraved into the plasticard and then you could add bits of rubble/sand/whteva outside the circle but inside it could be a scorched area from where he teleported onto the battle field?

Loving the Snake Prince; I've always wanted to make one myself, although I was intending to use the Red Terror tail myself. Loving the look of him though; what did you use for the head? Looks very alien-ish!
I definitely like the idea of a second corpse on the base, although i'd probably go for the make-your-own option to save on monies.
I must admit however, I think the tail may be a bit too big compared to the body, but maybe that's just me...

Post by: Hyenajoe
Thanks!
@Just Dave: The head is from Rackham's Aberration Prime kit (you can still find one for cheap on ebay). About the size of the tail, it makes indeed a tall prince, but the proportion of the tail has to fit the morphology of the DP torso (I mean it has to be strong enough to allow him to move an over-armored/over-musculated torso.) BrassScorpion from whom I stole the idea didn't use all the length of the trygon tail (making is at least 2 inches shorter and placing tentacles at the end) and it looks really good.

The head is from Rackham's Abberation Prime kit.

So, here's what i have in mind so far: The RT era crippled marine (placed as in the previous pics) and a second marine with a mpissing arm, still standing up with the support of a pillar (or a small piece of wall) and raising his bolter in the direction of the Prince. Both would be magnetised on the base to be removed and used as separate objective markers for my Dark Angels Army. I'll work the base with plasticard small slate bits and sand, strong magnets will be placed under the base. I'll try to wor'k this out this week end, but I also have to work on my Heretek and my TS termies first.
Cheers!

May I suggest quietly that if you added two more "Bits" of marine floating about then you could use them as the DP's wounds? IE take one of when he loses one. or actually scratch that you only need one more, one for each wound then him for the final bit.

Sorry I was a bit vague...
What I mean is that most of the time, the "casualties" on large bases / scenerey end up screwing the whole piece, due to :
- models not being "poseable" as lying or prone, thus resulting in silly poses that don't look realistic at all ;
- an overzealous application of a bad recipe for blood ;
- the painter being "lazier" for them than for the rest of the mini.
So please only do this if it can emphasize the greatness of the Daemon!!!

I'm glad you like it!
After building this marine I felt the RT crippled marine was out of place, so I decided to build another one to place under the prince.
At this point I must say that my bitzbox must be linked to the warp, since random cool bits I had never noticed before regularly appears in it (it's the only logic explanation...or else it would mean I have gathered too much bits along the years to remember of all I have...no,it's probably the warp!)
Here's the result so far:
I'll give this new marine a bolt pistol (and a good amount of GS to hide all the cutting marks!)
I have also cut the half arch to avoid it to draw the eye from the tail claw ( and to get an easy ruin mood )
So what do you think?

Awesome...
The first marine is looking good, but not as if firing... Rather as if looking in pain & awe at him (which is also nice).
Second one looks more defiant, and much better than the RT one... Though it would've been better (IMHO) if he was less... vertical (?) in his pose ; that is, with the arm & gaze more at an angle, rather than directly up.
But that's just nitpicking of course, that looks awesome!

GS'd eyes on the dread look great!
The paint on the 1kson term looks sweet as well, such a vibrant blue.
And the DP is brreathtaking, love the marines battling to the end, thats a great scene right there.
Keep it up!

Thank you! You're right he doesn't look as if firing, but I was missing a straight arm to try giving him a desperate heroic position, so I went this way. I'm glad you like it

I see what you mean. I'll try to adjust this later (perhaps by repositioning the arm and working on some rubble under him it might work).

Well for the test pics, I've mainly tried to avoid him to point his finger at the DPs Loincloth ("Hey Bob! you'll never gess what I can see from here!")

Ok, time for a small update before I leave for nearly three weeks (holidays ! yay!!!)
For those who don't remember him, here's the one I'm talking about:
What you couldn't see on the pics I posted was that ther was absolutely nothing between his legs (no silly pun intended, I swear)
The legs being from the Aberation Prime kit and the torso from GWs DP kit I had to fill the junctions, so here's the latest thing I've done on the winged prince:
I will have to add some more GS to get a more homogenic result. I wish I could hide it with a lointcloth on both the front and back of the model (like on the Lord of Change) but a lointcloth wouldn't look good on this model (or to be more precise: I think it would break the dynamic and hide the legs which I want to be seen).
What do you guys think?

The Lost Prophets were a band around in the early 2000's that had one decent song called Shinobi Vs. Dragon Ninja. You're not missing much.
DP looks good. Nice job on the GS. I know what you mean about the loincloths. What if you did like a drape of chainmail? Or even plated armor that drapes like this:

Damn you Moltar that was going to be my suggestion! Seriously though i agree, the cloth part of loincloth may not look great but if you modeled a piece of armor to look like his shoulder pieces (stylistically) and draped it from a hobby chain belt for example i think it would look pretty wicked.
Could we get a better shot of his sword and hand? I love the pose from what i can see, really powerful. I may steal it!

I'll work out the plates to make something fitting the model's aesthetic. I won't make something definitive, just a try, and you guys will tell me what you'll think.
To FearPeteySodes request, the best pics I have of the Princes' main blades:

and for the snake prince:
Right now I'm preparing a list of things to do during my holiday:
-painting my oop necron army.
-painting my Heretek
-finishing the modelling job on my Emperor's children heads and scratchbuilding 5 pairs of lightning claws for the chosen ones
I'll probably post a lot of new pics when I'll be back.

Hey everyone! I'm back!
The holidays were fine and I had enough time to work on the Emp Kids to make some significant progress, I found the time to paint my necrons, and I even started a new DP. The only thing I was completely unable to work on is my Heretek (shame on me! ).
As promised, here are some WIP pics of my Emperor's Children:
1st: The Dactilys Squad (a.k.a. ïa! ïa!Cthulu Ftaghn!)
You'll see later that the icon bearer have been redone yesterday.
2nd: The Eidolon Squad.
3rd: the Excelis Squad (no group shot, sorry)
the only squad I've done using GWs noise marines or slaaneshi heads (except for the converted possessed head you can see here).
Another squad is on its way but I have to finish the mohawks
I've also worked on the chosen one, the Sublime Guard:
and their lightning claws:
I know I still have a lot to do,but what do you think so far?

Heretek looks good, especially his base. I think the new DP is off to a great start, too. Given that those wings are solid metal (looking), are you going to add anything to tie them into the fleshy DP? Like a motor with pistons or something to that extent? They actually look like they fit on there pretty well.

Correct me if I'm wrong: you start with a metallic layer (like boltgun metal), then add some brown to orange weathering, and finally some Hawk turquoise around the rivets?

Post by: inmygravenimage
For cryx I used a reverse method that I found on the privateer forums: start with gamecraft Deep Bronze Green, or similar (Vj Russian Green works quite well), heavy drybrush bestial brown, then lightly drybrush either dwarf bronze or Vj tarnished Copper (or both), sepia wash and then a very, very light dry brush of hawk turquoise. This gives a very rich verdigris, not as subtle as Ygg's awesome version. Excuse the rubbish pic/threadjack, but you get the idea:

Well, actually it's closer to : Chaos Black, stippled / drybrushed Boltgun Metal, then directly Hawk Turquoise + Skull White + Water in the recesses...
Example here : http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/226313-Gretchin%2C%20Orks%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000%2C%20Weathered.html
But I guess some brown / orange hue in the metal would be better beforehands...

Thanks, unfortunately posting a tuto for this on Dakka might not be recommended since it implies partial green stuff recasting. However, any interested people can PM me

It's been some time since I last updated this thread, but, while working plasticard for my Gorkamorka fort, I took 10 minutes to add pistons on my Thousand Sons DP's mechanical wings:

Hey there!
Yesterday, I've found some time to work on the princes, starting by preparing a propoer crown for my Thousand Sons DP.
Here's the rough first step (sorry for the blurry pic):
I've also worked on my first Winged DP:
What do you think?

I think the theme you are going with for all of this is impressive and is going to work brilliantly. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Post by: Hyenajoe
Well, I'll mount this crown on the same defiler mask I've used for this prince:
Then, with the help of GS and plasticard, I think I can get something with the real TS feel.
I'll use the same armor parts as for my two others plastic princes (basically the leg plates) as shoulderpads, and I'm thinking of using the DP arm with an axe and plasticard to build something like that:
What do you think?

I've just received my last bitz order today, including the defiler mask for the TS daemon prince.
Here's a mock up of the head:
Once it will be glued, I'll fill the gaps with GS, then I'll work on the materialization of the stripes (should I carve them or use plasticard stripes?)
So, what do you guys think?

I also think the butt plates on your winged daemon prince look pretty good!

I'll go to my local modelism shop to check if they have 1,5mm stripes.

Hey there!
Time for a small update on the TS Prince.
Since I had not enough stripe to build the crown, so I had to wait until my local shop re-open on wednesday.
I also cut a basic khopesh frame that I'll use as a base for my DP's weapon adding flames and runes.
Here's a picture of both (sorry for the blurry pic):
I'll try to finish the helmet soon before to spend more time working on the weapon.
Cheers!

Yeah, this is going to be quite the epic achievement once you get it done. You and I seem to have a lot in common- too many cool projects, too much "real life" stuff, and too many distractions for our hobby time to focus on one thing at a time.

I hope so! Now the problem is to get it done

You're right on this point. I have thousands of models to work on (I'm not exagerating), and my shelf of shame...well, I guess one life is too short for awesome people like us!

At very least I may live to see the "completion" of my Death Guard. Just a few more units left.
As far as the rest of my collection... I'm doing some serious thinking about trading the things I know I'll never use for stuff I want. And 5 years from now I'll be sick to think about that time I traded those Space Wolves because now I'm 100% all about playing them... sometimes I think this "hobby" is actually an extension of mental illness.

What if in reality this IS the 41st millenium, and WE are the "Fantasty" version of what hive punkers are playing?
I bet some hiver just said "My level 12 Surveyor is checking Dakka Dakka to see if anyone has updated thier threads", and the DM says "Roll a d20 to see if you noticed any updates".

The total number of models I've ever sold would probably be around...five (and they were spares). Instead I'm trying to give my nephews some of my models so that they get decent armies whithout ruining themselves or their parents
Now a good new: remember the Sorceror Dread? Well he's done! (not painted, but I've finished the last modelling details adding seals of corruption). Pics will follow soon. I've also started to sculpt flames on the sword and ne helmet is nearly finished.
Cheers!

He already had, I'll see the doctor tomorrow
I'll soon start to work on a base for the Sorceror Dread. I'm planing to make a half burried plasticard Chaos star for it.
I have received enough bitz to build a second TS Termie squad with the same equipment as the first one (powerfists and combi-flamer + heavy flamer) However, I'll try to give them a more dynamic position by switching the combi-flamers arms with the twin-linked bolters arms. I hope to start them before Christmas.
Cheers!

Thanks Llamahead. My wife has Banned the Siver tower from the appartment because -I quote her- "this stuff is a mess generator"... There's still much work to do on it, but one day I'll finish it...

I'm glad you like it Neil. It's just a press moulded piece of GS based on the chaos star on one of the regular CSM breastplate then glued on a SM vehicle purity seal.

Dude, I actually said "wow" out loud. I know I will type the word "wow" here and there to convey my reaction, but I literally said it. So loudly in fact that my wife in the next room asked "what?" (as in "what awesome thing just made you say wow") so I told her what and she called me a nerd.

I've started to assemble my second TS termie squad (wich will include a champion termie). They're going to be a little more dynamic than the first ones.
I'va also managed to get enough RT era CSM backpacks to equip all my regular Thousand Sons. I expect to start building the first squad soon.

errr...I'm not quite sure of this... I started to paint the dread yesterday, basecoating the armor plates with regal blue and starting to highlight it as I did on the terminators. The least I can say is that while it looks good on the helmet, I'm not really happy with the arms and armor plates... I'll try to post a pic of it today.
Some news of the DP: I'm blocked! I can't find the left arm I need !!! It's probably lost in my personal warp but I don't know when it willl pop out of it. I guess now I have to order one...yay, after the plasticard stripes, more frustrating delays!!!
The new termies are now assembled and GSed. I'll post pics of the new sqad soon. Now I need to find bases for them.
Cheers!

Err...did my wife send you a mail to suggest this comment?
No, the real mess is on the shelves full of boxes and drawers where I keep all my stuff. I have to get on a ladder to see what behind the front boxes
Here are some pics of the sorceror dread, and the new termie squad:
To be honnest, I'm not happy with the paintjob. It's really messy (more than it appears on the pic), and I'll have to re-work on the highlightings.

I'll try to work on it during the next days. I'd really like to have it done by Christmas.
Lately I experienced a lack of motivation on modelling (I guess my Ork fort has something to see with it) and I think there might be more painting that modelling for 2012. This means no new projects, just finishing what's already been started (like my Emperor's Children for example, or the six TS squads I have to build and paint and the 4 rhinos that goes with them, or all my nurgle and khorne stuff - and i don't talk about my eldars, tyranids, orks, dark angels...)
I think I need some looong holidays home.
Cheers!
