Yeah that's right, I said it.

I've been wanting to say it forever, and right now, I'm drunk enough to post a thread on it, because it SO deserves to be said.

F#*@ the Eldar

You know why? Because they've been the most powerful and abusive army list in 40k for like, forever.  In their 3rd Ed Dex, and now evevn in their 4th ed dex, and almost all because of just a few units, like Falcons & Harlequins.

And you know what makes them so deserving of the $#*(age?  Because the players tend to be as arrogant and pissy as the fluff depicts the Eldar in 40k.  That's right I said it.

Before the 4th ed Dex came out people did nothing but go on and on about how the Starcannon shouldn't get nerfed, and it was all FINE.  And people even NOW *female dog* about how Ulthwe and Altiock are gone, and how it's such a shame and the 23498237 Vyper + 3 Falcons + a Starcannon up the yinyang army is dead and it's all so sad.

But you know what, that crap was so friggin abusive, and these people, all the wonderful people who post and *female dog* about 40k on the internet (who also play Eldar) do nothing but *female dog* about marines.  Ohh la-di-da, look out, the Space Mahrinez (Hurr, as abbadoobidabidon says), are coming to ruin 40k by being so abusive and good, but the truth is the most abusive and stupidly good no-tactics-required Eldar have been at the top of the heap since like 3rd ed or even before that.

It's crap like that which pisses me off.  People complain about Marines (who are indeed friggin cheesy and need a Nerf), but sit there and go on about Eldar didn't need a nerf, or woe is me Ulthwe is Dead.  I mean even the new Dex with Unkillable Falcons + Harlies exists and people complain about how bad Eldar got hit with the Nerf stick.  It's so friggin annoying to hear.

Oh and Eldar only do well at tournaments because "vets play them" and only N00b players play Space Mahrines (HURR!), so that's why Eldar win tournaments, because it takes TACTICAL GENIOUS to run Eldar as a "combined arms force".

That is the load of crap that gets me.  Like it takes "tactics" to run 6 Harlies, or Fire Dragons, or Banshees in a Falcon, and ram-rod some copy-paste options down your opponents throat with nothing he can do about it to stop it.

WOOO, someone dig Patton out of his grave, we've got a damn near tactical GENIOUS of a 40k veteran over here, who realized that holofields+stones = good stuff and "learned how to use it".

Now I'm not going to say that other armies aren't broken, Marines are, Chaos iss (for now), Nids are, and even Tau are (though they're probably at the bottom of the 4th Ed heap).  But NOTHING takes the cake like Eldar do (or did) and you still hear people *female dog* about what happend in the new dex, or how they're not overpowered in some way.

It's just annoying, and I'm happy I finally came out and said it.

PS. Sorry if I cursed too much, I tried to be good and keep it sanitiezed mods, but I'm drunk and I really do hate the Eldar (justifiably so).

Voodoo Voodoo Voodoo how can you post such material withouty sharing the wealth. I can't even go to lunch yet and grab a good margarita you fiend.

You're just jealous because Eldar are civilized (as in they know exactly what type of wine to bring to your funeral), have a constant attention to detail (as in destroying your forces in detail), and will not stand for anything less than perfection (the perfection of burning dreadnoughts, giant meteors entering orbit that were formerly battlebarges, and the sweet sweet perfection of jetbike formation with supporting guardian formations slaughtering marine pod forces in a perfect firefight ballet while Warlock titans watch in approval).

If you have the mods check the IP's you'll notice I'm in Japan. I'm on business and it's Friday night. I got pretty well intoximicated at the local bar owned by an american and stumbled my way back to the hotel (avoiding the rest of the "night life", since I wanted to call home as it's about noon there now I think).

I'm sorry if the post offends you, but I really can't stand all the *female dog*ing about Marines, when they're not even the worst dex out, and Eldar has been so good for so long, but no one complains about them, because they're not Space Marines, and one you're not Space Marines of some kind then it's OK to be stupidly broken, because at least you're not space marines and that makes everything magically OK.

In protest of the new codex I run one squad of 10 harlequins, and I have avoided the falcons. um... you know I had a point but I think I forgot what it was. I'm just happy to post on this thread before it gets locked. Ok I remember my point, even a walking unit of harlequins is enough to through the balance of the game off, they are heck to try to hurt. I prefer the old codex, I liked how they played then a bit more than now.

*high five*

Abusive eldar lists, zilla nids and assault cannon fetish marines are what is keeping me from playing tournaments, personally. I like the idea of paying to play good games against interesting fun armies, but playing frustrating games against maddeningly boring and uninventive armies? And paying for it?

There was plenty of disgruntlement about the old codex; you alluded to it, briefly, when you mentioned the starcannon thing. And in the days before hidden powerfists (v3e), the multi-wraithlord combo was incredible, too. Plus there was assaulting out of Wave Serpents.

The problem with the new Eldar codex isn't the overall strength of the codex, it's how useless a bunch of units are. This, in turn, leads to rampant usage of the "good" units, with all its attendent problems.

But don't let that spoil a good drunken rant.

I do agree, Voodoo Boyz.  I'm especially inclined to think that you're an ork player, who have been a very quiet lot and deserve to complain more than anyone else.  I just hope that the new ork codex rocks, and can put all of the other uppity armies in their place.

Therion is right in saying that the Eldar have "just enough cheese to get by"... Jfrazell is right in that the no-brainer armies showing up is because all the othe available stuff is downright terrible.

This whole trend of GW TELLING us what to put in our armies if they want to be competitive is killing the hobby. There's no variation. The good stuff is significantly better than the average stuff in most dex's, nevermind the inefficient weak stuff.

I hate to say it... but -on the whole- wonky Craftworld sub-dexes aside, the main Vanilla Eldar list just keeps gettng depowered Edition after Edition. Any of this hate trickling down from the 2nd edition days, or is this just a holdover from Craftworld Eldar hate?

The new Eldar list is a bit more balanced than the 3rd ed/Craftworld one, but it still has the problem of a few units(or weapons) being so awesome that everything else isn't worth it.  The GW marketing strategy seems to rely on pumping a unit up, then nerfing them after everyone bought three.  Maybe the joke will be on Eldar when 5th Ed makes Skimmers suck.  I hope so, and I play Eldar.  GW could balance out 40k by nerfing three areas Skimmers, Monstrous Creatures, Rending.  Then the combined arms Eldar forces would start to make a legitimate appearance.

It's not the eldar dex... it's the eldar tournie scene. In competitive play there are a few lists that are dominant. But that is really only an issue if you play the tournie scene.

Love how everyone tosses "zilla nids" into the list of "abusive lists". Have any of you actually played them? Have you ever *seen* how quickly the 'fexes die in h2h?

Mech tau and eldar are nauseating. Asscanspam is stupid. Zilla nids are hard to play against but they're also hard to play.

Also, I agree with everything voodooboyz said.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

Yes. Both sides of the table.

Have you ever *seen* how quickly the 'fexes die in h2h?

Sure; they're generally good at least one complete round (say what you want, but T6 W4 3+ take effort to crack). Which gives plenty of time for a more HtH capable unit to come save the 'fex. Which completely ignores the effort required to ENGAGE one of the fexes in HtH.

Mech tau and eldar are nauseating. Asscanspam is stupid. Zilla nids are hard to play against but they're also hard to play.

Mech Eldar are actually a bit less capable than some semi-mech variants (the Avatar/Eldrad/Guardian mobile firebase is quite useful). But don't kid yourself - godzilla tyranids are no more challenging to play than mech Tau - it's all about estimating ranges accurately, and staying far enough away from fast-moving assault units.

But in all seriousness, it shouldnt be a surprise that both Eldar and Non Eldar players are pissed at the codex.

Eldar players are pissed that they have around 5 usable options.

Non Eldar players are pissed that those 5 options are absurdly good.

Luckily, people here seem hellbent on watering the list down with subpar options, like hybrid lists.

More likely your post would have been filled with so many spelling errors our brains would hurt after reading it.

Seriously though, I like the current state of the Eldar Army List.

They took out the Seer Council of Doom, made 10 troopers the minimum Guardian Squad (no more minimum Falcon Flamers) and raised the price of Star Canons while taking away some of the effectiveness (they were 3 shots correct?).

They hit the most contentious aspects of the 3rd Edition Codex. There's a significant difference between what we've got now and Craftworld Eldar. While there are some "no brainer" choices, nothing in the current Dex is equivalent to an "I win" button. "Just use tactics".
