It had better articles than White Dwarf, and for free, so GW yanked it. It will return as a subscription-only service in a couple of months.

Black gobbo was rebliably cool for ages, no matter what game system was being covered.
But the last few months it is very simple, nay lame virtual adverts for new releases or almost reprints of WD articles with very few acctual gems of modelling and painting articles.
When the WDs were combined OZWD lost its player army articles where GW staffers or general players would show off their armies and explain how and why they did stuff.
I'd love to see those sort of articles return to Black Gobbo, The Dave Taylor bizzarro army coverage articles were always highlights.

Black Gobbo had been pretty pointless for a bit, I'm not surprised (nor happy, however) to see it go.
It's pretty sad that a regional web-zine like Black Gobbo was better than the company's magazine.
But let's not turn this into a thread on how awful WD is....

Hi guys
Black Gobbo was the way our US team used to deliver a bundle of product and hobby content every two weeks to your waiting eyes. Very much an e-zine approach.
The new website will be supplied automatically with product and hobby content from the Global Web Team and our US Community & Events updates will go up as we finalize the details or complete the coverage. So, although it appeared regularly as a nice counterpart to White Dwarf, there's no need to keep up the packaging when the material will still be added to the site.
I hope this helps.
Cheers
Dave

Allow me to agree & disagree Dave.
Whilst I appreciate the amount of new content headed our way via the website, it would be nice to have the Black Gobbo as somewhat of a "lookit what's new!" summary.
I don't want to have to peruse each and every corner of the website looking for new content (of course, that may be part of the plan...), and I personally find RSS feeds a bit antiseptic.

Does this mean that the US Team will no longer be contributing to the same extent that they (um, I mean you) did when Black Gobbo still existed?

Ok I jumped the gun a bit
But black gobbo had tons and tons of great how to's,conversions and the like I just never really see on the main site.
plus there were alot of good info in the archive.
The new site is ok but really hard to navigate,I already miss the way all the old articles were displayed in the old UK site(even better than the US one)
A big list with everything on it on one page
Oh well what is,is no use getting upset over it

Hi guys
While I've never had the honor to be a part of our hard working web team, I've spent a lot of time working alongside them. Black Gobbo, as a "check out the new content" delivery system, will certainly be missed by many. After 115+ issues it built a good following. Now, as well as losing our friend Black Gobbo, there are speed and navigation concerns about the new site.
Change is tough, for everyone. Particularly when that change is something that plays a part in someone's passionate interests (Warhammer or 40K), like our website. The Global Web Team will get the bugs worked out, we'll get used to a new navigation, and, when we all get our hovercars and rocket packs, we'll lament its passing once all the info is downloaded directly into our brains.
As we get used to the new front page and the Community & News front page we'll make it easier for everyone to know what the new content is and where to track it down. It just won't be called Black Gobbo.
Cheers

Thanks for the explanation, still doesn't take some of the sting out of not watching something that was really great deteriorate before our very eyes. Hopefully this new system works out for the better.
To the folks that are looking for a alternative, the Dakka Articles Front page has been getting updated once weekly to help guide folks to new and interesting articles created by the very folks you've been chatting up here on the forums. Thanks to legoburner for keeping up with the weekly front page updates on this one ^_-.

Thanks for the explaination.
I know the site is new and working all the little bugs take time.
It does look 100% better and I do like the links that bring the shopping list right up.
The old way was kind of a pain in the ass.
I hope some of the gobbo only articles make it to the site someday
Thanks for the link greywolf some really good stuff there.

Just something for the GeeDub to consider for the articles sections: Pictures.
As it stands right now, the article sections are about as interesting as a card catalog at the library. I find myself impossibly bored by it and it makes it hard to even keep my browser on the page long enough to find what I'm looking for.
I know, I'm like a preschooler right now, but I miss the easy picture based navigation. It made it much easier for folks to find things pertinent to their modeling needs. I think it would definitely speed up the ability to find the articles people are looking for. Especially if they just use the old photos.

Yeah, i'd hate to think that the old articles are gone for good.
I emailed custserv and the very pleasant chap there replied very promptly and did say at some point they would put the old articles back up, but at the moment it isn't the greatest priority which is a very reasonable comment to make as the fix the speed issues and finish the conversion to the new site.
It is funny, I never understood the complaints about Black Gobbo. It was free for a start. Also, even if the articles weren't relevent to me what they were doing actually sparked my imagination to be able to apply it to what I was working on.

What about using the Wayback Machine? Or, say, Google cache?
I found the old GW main page with the Wayback Machine, but seem to be unable to link to the Black Gobbo material. Is anyone out there more skilled with cache searches than I am?
EDIT- Got a little closer by searching for the News pages, which link to Black Gobbo. Looks like they only have up to August 2007 available- I'm not sure why more recent stuff isn't there. I think the Wayback Machine may only allow content to be searched up to a certain horizon. Maybe it's a legal thing.
And what I found has no pics.

The old Black Gobbo articles are still up on the UK website, which is still old style. Most of the BG articles used to be added to the UK site around the same time as they were published in the BG. This is the link to the modelling section: http://uk.games-workshop.com/warhammer40000/modelling/.

With Black Gobbo gone, will the GW website still have conversion articles and new terrain making articles like it used to? I was always most interested in the conversions, but since everything is being "simplified" it might be taken out.
Also, I know it's far gone, but it was always cool to see the Black Gobbo team making use of the Chapter Approved articles to the fullest extent and showing what they had done with them.
