Hi,

After getting a bit fed up of the black legion and getting into iron warriors after reading dead sky black sun I decided to convert my black legion army to iron warriors.

So far I did a test using three undercoated csm's:

Sorry about the pics, you know camera phones! .

I painted the models entirely in boltgun metal, then picked out the armour joints with chaos black. Then was the trim with shining gold and the bolter with mithril silver. I used mithril as I'd imagine iron warriors would take good care of their weapons, even in the eye of terror or where ever they may be. Touches were black eyes and the hazard markings, which I'm not over the moon about at the moment. Finally was the wash of badab black which makes them look loads better.

So far I've done just the three, but going to do another six this week amongst other things. This isn't my main project, I'm also working on Ultramarines and Necrons, UM's coming in first as I've nearly done them.

I have the following to do:

1 x Terminator Lord
1 x Daemon Prince
5 x Terminators
8 x Chosen
40 x CSM
2 x Rhinos
2 x Vindicators
1 x Defiler

Comments & feedback welcome.

I'm too looking forward to seeing more of this project. Iron Warriors have always been a clear
favourite of mine on the Chaos side, probably because of their lack of 'chaosyness' that is so
evident in many of the other legions. They even have warning stripes! (Which I consider to be
the nicest part of their colour scheme. Although I do find it a bit redudant. After all, if you see a
giant, armoured thing with a miniature rocket launcher in his hands coming towards you, you
shouldn't really need the warning stripes to tell you to get the [insert supposedly warm place]
out of the way]

Dakka has quite a few brilliant P&M blogs featuring Iron Warriors, so inspiration is all around you.
Have a gander at them, and remember to take some pictures for the rest of us to see!

Good luck with them!

Cheers guys.

I'm hoping to to another six tonight, but I've got a busy night so I don't know how much progress I will make.

I have checked out another iron warriors log further down.

I'II try and get some better pics as well, the models look better than on the photos - even those photos were taken under direct light!!

Stay tuned for Ultramarines log.

Looking good! I'd normaly make a comment about how the yellow caution stripes look faded but it actually works on these models.

A solid gritty start.

I think a bit more brush control with your stripes and you've got a solid recipe for a great army.

Well guys as you all know with the news of my having a baby daughter on the way my 40k armies are stopping at 2,000 points and all have dedicated lists.

After some discussion on Warseer I have slightly changed the existing list for more anti tank, more long ranged fire power and more troops

Here's what I built over the weekend and decided to start on the terminator lord and one of the terminator body guards.

btw - sorry about pics, didn't realise they was so blurred until I uploaded them.

Looking good. The Lord could have used a few more servo arms, but this is definitely a great start to an Iron warriors army. Iron Wariors are fully my favourite of all the traitor legions

Cannock

Thanks for the comments fellas. I guess some servo arms would look great, but not sure about wrecking a £12 model! Would be a nice conversion if could get plastic servo arms.

I'm no uber painter, but here's a step by step tutorial:

1. Base coat with chaos black.

2. Paint ENTIRE model with bolt gun metal.

3. Pick out armor joints with bending arms and legs in chaos black.

4. Paint weapon mithril silver.

5. Paint any details on armour such as spikes and skulls bleached bone.

6. Do gold trim on armour and on weapon.

7. Paint eyes ice blue.

8. Wash all over with badab black.

9. Paint eyes ice blue again.

Its nothing amazing, the wash just dulls things down and gets into the details to give strong lines. I guess you could highlight, but you cannot see and if you highilght after the wash it looks odd as I've done it with my Ultramarines.

The army looks great! I can't wait to see that Defiler...

I do have a photography suggestion--some of the infantry photos are a little blurry. From the angle, I guess that you're holding the camera to make the shot. Also, it looks like your using a desk lamp for lighting.

Two quick ideas:
1. Put the camera down on the table (or other flat surface) to take the pictures. This removes most body motion and should clean up the blur nicely.
2. Take pictures near a sunlit window--this will also reduce blur. Don't get any sky or window in the picture, this will be too bright. Just arrange the troops so that sunlight falls on them and click away.

Keep up the great work and post more!

Cheers for the tip mate, however taking in sun light is a problem as the desk is out of sunlight and when i get home from work its dark. Light in the kitchen isn't the best.

First I'd like to compliment you on your choice of CSM chapters, the Iron warriors are one of my favorites. Everythng looks awesome, especially the gritty, faded feel to the armor. The eyes could use a little work, but other than that, badass.

... because that totally makes sense.

Brought some terminators to make the army up to 2,000 points. The extra 500 points to make the army from 1,500 to 2,000 points just consists of two terminators units and a chaos lord in terminator armour.

The new unit I built last night armed with a combi flamer, heavy flamer and one termy has lightning claws. Hopefully I will paint them soon in between things.
