So I registered for an account and it says on the box first month free. But when I'm about to play it says method of payment and asks me to pay what do i do?

You still have to give some sort of payment form to be able to start. You won't be charged for the first month. If it is a real problem you might try calling them and complaining about needing to supply a form of payment to play a free month. That might waive it, might not.

The game is pretty well dead, it just hasn't completely expired yet.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

CoX, as frequent palyers call the combo, is still kicking. They just did a major update adding new content and have another in thework for release in a few months.

These game Updates are usually free and have included new zones, character and power options, and costuming options. They even have a forum based "newspaper" written and editted by players.

A lot of WoW players like to think they have no competition in online gaming, given the huge numbers of registered accounts in that game but realize that there are people in WoW that have multiple accounts (the record is 36 accounts for a single player, he does his own raids), which would skew the actual player numbers.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

When I played the free trial in EU about four months ago there where folks around. Its a little odd as you won't see many low levels hanging around the lower areas, I saw a couple, but if you go to one of the main gathering areas you'll see a fair few folks (20-30ish is what I saw) hanging about who are the mid range to highest lvls.

Plus as the game can run solo for a fair bit by what I experienced, and most of the main quests or 'missions' are instanced so you won't bump into as many as you do in WoW or WaR.
There are folks playing though, well at least it seemed so on Defiant, one of the two english servers in Europe. I'd imagine there are more US players in general.

Not as many do that as you might think, and not as much as you'd like to think. And I don't know about you, but when I fired up my CoH account again a few months ago, it was freaking DEAD. Playing a MMO alone, killing the exact same guys ad nauseam (just slightly more powerful each time) is the ultimate grind... especially when the basic game hasn't updated since launch (which I was in on). Oh, I'm wrong; there's no more 5th Column... woo, exciting!

Play a villain, they actually have balanced classes. For heroes(at higher levels, especially), only Blasters, Defenders(Healers or Bubblers) and Tanks are really any good, you may occassionally find a group looking for Controllers, and you'll almost never find a group as a Brawler unless you come as a packaged deal(combining parties) or are forming groups with Super Group mates. All Villain classes are useful and decently good.

Also, soloing is next to impossible in the game.

Which is what ultimately makes it unplayable for me. I don't enjoy choosing between sitting about all night hoping for a decent group or settling for the group of mouthbreathers that happens to be available.

Imperial wrote:The server that I play in doesn't seem to be dead and there are like 58 players with me at the same time

Umm, yeah, 58 people is nothing for a MMO. That barely hits the "multiplayer" part, much less the "massively" part.

Actually, since most of the "door" missions scale to team size, Soloing in CoX can be fairly easy. There are a few AV (Arch Villian) Missions that you may need a team to beat.

I have characters built for soloing and a few built for team play, depending on my mood. With the newest update you can actually have 2 different builds per character, say one for soloing and one for teams or even PVP.

On the PVP note, there are several zones for that and one is a "Free Fire Zone" meaning anyone not on your team is a target.

As for the number of active players, I have seen 58 in a single zone at one time. Try searching for teammates, the list usually tops at 50 or so. typically I have to limit my searches to a single zone or level bracket.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

LIES!! IT LIES

Been playing COH for 42 months. No matter what you play in the beggining, your going to suck and get killed alot.

All the COH classes solo well on heroic, the default mission difficulty. Not suprisingly, combat oreinted charecter wills have an easier time soloing than charecters that focus on healing or buffing. All the COV classes were desinged with greater experience under their belt and they are even more solo friendly.

That being said, TEAMING in COX is the beez knees. All the classes compliment each other so the whole is greater than the sum of t's parts.
City of Heroes is the most Buddy friendly MMO there is. You can Sidekick a low level hero up, and temporarliy boost his level lettin him experience higher level content at his mentors side, or the Veteren hero can Exemplar down to the rookies level and show him how they used to do it in their day.

Groups of 5 are ideal untill the training wheels are off. Beware nitwits that constantly insist on teams of 8 on Invincible. All that does is boost the mob counts and mob levels to the maxim, not something rookies can handle early a toons career. Once your charecters reach their nid to late 30s have all of thier bread and butter powers and you'll be able to handle insane opposition.

City of Heroes has recently undergone alot of great Quality Of LIfe Improvements that were long overdue, while Cryptic was saving their pennies trying to squeeze out the now defunct Marvel MMO. There is always a healthy flux of new players to the game, but I have noticed alot of the long term vets taking vacations untill issue 14 and it's Player designable missions is released.

The game is approaching it's 4th anniversay, and it has more classes, powers, costumes, adventures, zones, missions, badges, etc.. than ever.

The FOCUS of the game is radically different from other MMOs in that once you hit 50, your pretty much expected to roll a new toon. There is stuff to do after 50, but they WILL NOT add more levels to the game.

Hero Side - Scrappers and Blasters are probably the most noob friendly. I recommend the blaster personally. He's more squishy, but you'll learn better habits playing him. Some people who play scrappers never really learn to play anything else effectively after being spoiled.

Villain Side - Brutes and Masterminds (particularly Bots/Dark or Thugs Dark MMs) are notoriously easy to solo and learn the game with. Brtues reward runnign around smashing evertyhing pretty wrecklessly and Mastermind's pets are like having a team under you command at all times.

The Holiday Event is still going on. Huge portions of the player base will either be in Pocket D, doing holiday missions, or out opening presents to collect Candy Canes for Holiday event only rewards.

Check out the offical COH boards. There is a very active COX community and you'll be able to find all kinds of help and answers to your questions in the forums there.

Just posting that your a newbie in the appropriate Server Forum Alone willl probably get you some new aquaintances on your server willing to help you out.

Wihle all MMOs, COH included, have thier trolls, City Of Heroes has a massively high percentage of players who will help you out if you ask nicely. Not only does the game reward team building and SuperGroup (guild) building, but the mind set of playing heroes tends to bring out the best in people.

I played this game a couple of years ago when CoV came out. I really liked it but found I didn't have the patience for leveling much beyond the 30th level. It certainly wasn't a game flaw, more of a personal flaw. I also found I could stay up WAY too late playing it, another personal flaw, but a credit to the game that it could keep me up that much past my bedtime. I really enjoyed it, and actually kind of miss my characters...

You say this, but I've yet to meet a Scrapper player that can solo every mission, even at higher levels(I played a Dark/Dark Scrapper for two years and always needed a group to do half my missions). Most people I talk to started a Scrapper then switched to a new toon because they could never find parties once they hit higher missions(no one wants Scrappers when they can have Tanks and Blasters, we can't take a hit).

Yea me too, I use to have a Scrapper Called:

THE SAVAGE CABBAGE!

He got his powers from an accident in a pickling plant, LOL (He shot green cucumber chunks from his body!)

There is a lot to like in COH, but it is a dated game, other titles have gone farther. Tastes will vary, MMO players come in a lot of flavors for certain...

Good luck!

EDIT:

MMOs just stop you from getting your minis painted, LOL.

With the recent updates to CoX, Scrappers are getting renewed interest. Dual Swords, Willpower and Shield options make them nearly as tough as Tanks with way more DPS, and higher survivability in HTH than Blasters. Yeah they suffer a bit from some ranged attacks but no more so than Blasters or Controllers.

I believe either this update or the next, (coming Soon) will have a "Leveling Pact" allowing two players to keep their characters at the same level even if they cant be online together all the time.
