I'm seriously considering starting my account back up until Champions Online comes out.
For a little clarification...It is easier to solo in City of Heroes than it is in any other MMO. The instanced missions and variable difficulties make this so. Sure, you can't defeat Arch Villains by yourself, but this is so much more forgiving than anything else. If you really want to circumvent this, you can do what you would do in any other MMO, and grind your heart out, but I'd rather have to invite one friend to help me clear a mission than have the entire second half of the game basically require teaming to get anywhere.
I seriously miss all of my level 50s. Seriously. The character creator makes you grow attatched to your characters like no other.

Did they ever give heroes stuff as cool as bank robberies for villains?
Those missions were fun.
And I'm getting sick of people abbreviating missions as mish. Ugh.

Well....I guess you could say that they tried.
In my opinion, the more they try to make City of Heroes like City of Villains, the worse it gets. City of Villains was built on the experience of City of Heroes as a better, more dynamic game (though I do have to admit that forcing your villain into the Arachnos story arc is kind of lame, and the only thing I don't like about the game). Sure, it has way less content, but the content that's there is more well designed. I really appreciate how they gave each archetype it's own special feel (much better than just having a certain kind of team dynamic).
When they tried to add in the "radar" missions (as well as giving the heroes all of the costume options of the villains), I think it killed part of the fun that City of Heroes had. I miss the original game, the way it used to be, where your missions and contacts depended entirely on what origin you chose. The radar killed that. Building up to your contacts by completing random missions, and ending in a spectacular finale was something only City of Villains could do.
Nothing will ever match the awesome feel of the Mayhem missions. Especially not trying to stop one from happening.

I will say this about City of Villians.... I dont much like the limited contacts at lower level and the "been there, done that" mission sets on Mercy.
However, I love doing Mayhem Missions. Much easier to solo than the City of Heroes Safeguards.... Plus you get to break things when you get bored.
On the issue of Lag, sometimes that depends on where you are. Atlas Park on some servers is refered to as At LAG Park due to the high number of people just standing around waiting for the next costume contest.
I also know of one zone issue that has bugged me in the past. Zoning from Brickstown to Independence Port through the gate has caused me to fail a number of timed missions. Its been reported and is being worked on.

City of villains was actually pretty fun and i played it for a while over Wow. But the community is quite small and depleting in number.
Like all MMORPGs i got bored of the constant leveling and the amount of work you have to pour in killing random npcs to get moderately better gameplay and level up. The lack of updating, oldness and general repetitiveness in practically everything made me leave.
However Cryptic is doing 'Champions Online' which should prove quite a more interesting bite.

I played the game very heavily from launch for about a year or so and then got board, but the game has a lot of pro's and con's: pro: The absolute best character creation system ever seen. If you have an idea of something you want to do for a character, there is a very good chance you can make your character look like the thing you want. Sometimes it takes a bit of work, but it can be done. My friends and I made a Blood Angles squad at one point. I also did a very good rendition of Ace and Gary from the Ambigiously Gay Duo. con: The biggest problem with the game is that it's very very repetitive. The mobs you fight are all very similar in looks and behaviour. Even when the looks change drasticaly later on, the behaviour stays the same for just about everything. This makes the game a real grind after a while. pro: You can always play with your friends. With the push of a button, you can artificaly inflate your level or bring it down so that you can group with your friends. You can also add people to your "friends list" by account name, so you can always find your buddies when they are online (even if they are on different servers or characters you didn't know they had). con: You had best understand how all the powers in the game work, because once you chose one, you are stuck with it. At least as of the time I quit, there was no way to change powers if you find out you took one that sucked or put a lot of expansion slots into a power that either didn't need them or was just bad from the start. pro/con: There is no equipment in the game. The only "items" you get are little nuggets that you can apply to your powers to give them some kind of boost (extra damage, longer range, faster recast, less stamina use, etc.). These slowly decay as you level so you have to replace them all the time. While it fits in fairly well with the whole superhero thing, it really limits your sence of aquisition and acomplishment. All in all the game is very fun for as long as you don't find it repetative. However most people I've met and played with (with one exception) got board with it and quit after 8-12 months.

So I have played it quite a bit more since my last post, maybe a few hours a day in between crashes and this is my little write-up.
pro: I have fun with the character design but there is only a few characters/ builds I really want to try. I have two Dominators, two Blasters, a Brute, a Scrapper and a Stalker. I have five or six characters in the 8 to 12 level range. My latest, a fire/ fire Blaster I leveled to 8 in an hour or two although I deliberately chose high dps.
pro: The level up/ down thing is cool, as is the random Zombie killing in Mercy Island. I look forward to trying the PvP at some point.
... you can create a second build for your character by talking to the trainers. It is easy to make money selling scrap on the auction, after that you can keep your enhancements maxed or buy new ones. This might be a new feature. Note I am still low level of course.
I agree regarding equipment/ repetitiveness. I see it is as being a just for fun game or almost a kiddie game. Quite frankly it is fun to just log in and blow stuff up.
I will probably play it for a bit once I upgrade my computer, if I am not playing other games. I want to create five or six chars and get into the PvP.

But yes the Enhancements and Inspirations are just sort of a tweak on your character. One thing about MMOs, you can always play them a couple of times just for the PvE.

When you first play the game you:
- think it a magical experience 'wow i'm going to be a villain and takeover the city'.
- You create a unique character that you cherish with the famous CoV Char Creator.
- You mess around during the first few levels trying to figure out whether taking Hover or TP Friend.
- As the levels drag on you realize that everything's the same and not much will change even with the updates.
It's just an outdated game with a small community and on it's last legs.

You say this, but I've yet to meet a Scrapper player that can solo every mission, even at higher levels(I played a Dark/Dark Scrapper for two years and always needed a group to do half my missions). Most people I talk to started a Scrapper then switched to a new toon because they could never find parties once they hit higher missions(no one wants Scrappers when they can have Tanks and Blasters, we can't take a hit).
I've played off and on since launch and I NEVER found any of this to be true. I Soloed everything but AV's till cap with my MA/Regen Scrapper AFTER the I5 nerf.
And have never had a problem getting a team with her (yes that's right I'm a gender bender) unless there were a couple scrappers on the team or a SPECIFIC AT was needed to fill the last spot.

I played City of Heros in the open Beta and then for the first month or two after release. Like others said, the character generation is amazing and the general concepts are good. But I also found that it got VERY repetative very quickly. I was about to cancel my account anyway when something very annoying happened.
My main character was a "super normal" type gun wielding blaster. His costume was a paramilitary type uniform in a camo pattern and I named him "Herr Totenkopf". Well, no one seemed to worry too much about the name of the toon for almost the whole time I was playing. But then one day almost two months in, I find myself unable to log in and a nastygram in my email box stating that I had been banned for 72 hours for having an objectionable name. The unusual thing about CoH's customer service was that you could reply to such emails and I got into a back and forth email discussion with one of the GMs in regards to my name.
He kept insisting that the name was a Nazi reference and thus offensive, while I made a case that it was simply a cool sounding Germanic name. He would not hear it of course. Since I was about to cancel my account anyway, I decided to play it nasty on the way out. I told the GM 'Look buddy, I'm going to educate you here. When my account gets off suspension, I'm going to show you what a REAL offensive name looks like!" The GM warned me not to do that and added that any future name violations would result in a perma ban of my account. Well when the 72 hours was up I made a character by the name of "The Ethnic Cleanser" and hit the streets. Needless to say I lasted about 20 minutes of just wandering around before I weas disconnected and got a "you are banned" email.
I have not been on since.
I did find it interesting how quick they were to hand down a perma ban. That's actually unsual. It takes an act of god to ban someone from most MMORPGs in my experience. It seems that the staff of these games are very reluctant to loose a paying customer no matter how churlish their behavior. I've heard horror stories of players who commited numerous violations of a serious nature before finally getting the plug pulled on them in WoW for example.
To date CoH is the only online game I have ever been disciplined in, let alone ejected from.
